Dear NC Packs4Patriots Supporters NC Packs4Patriots (P4P) is preparing for some big changes. P4P and Support our Troops, Inc (SOT), out of Florida, have been working together for close to a decade. SOT has routinely sent shipments of donations to P4P for us to use in our care packages and for pick-ups. We believe that changing needs and circumstances have indicated our troops can be best served if P4P operations becomes part of SOT. SOT is a “501(c)(3) public purpose charity which works to strengthen the morale and well-being of our current military service members and their families.” They provide goods and services that range from large scale enterprise-level container shipments to bases and battalions, down to individual soldier support. As part of the SOT umbrella P4P will become a distribution center for receiving and coordinating distribution of donations on a much larger scale than anything we have handled in the past. With the large number of military bases in NC, and our location close to major interstate highways, we will be able to more effectively receive and coordinate distribution of goods to our troops. Over the coming weeks you will start to see the SOT logo and name on our Donor Letters and other documents. You will also notice that P4P will be referred to as the Support Our Troops North Carolina Distribution Center. We would like to ensure all of our loyal donors that P4P’s current mission of supporting our troops and their families is not changing, nor is our team of familiar faces. Our work will continue but just at a larger scale. P4P would like to sincerely thank our donors and volunteers for all of the support over the years and we look forward to working with you for years to come.

Kennedy Home Toy Run Send Off & Prayers

Thanks to everyone who prayed for our son! This is one of the pictures we took at the Angus Barn right before we dropped him off at the hotel. The last picture is the last one I’ll have for a while. He called me in NY before his last flight to Chicago. I got the call last night around 11:30 saying “Ma, I made it. I’l l contact you in few weeks”, then hung up. Praise God he made it there safely! Now we pray for strength for him! Lots of y’all have watched him grow up and even had a part in helping us raise him! I’ll keep everyone updated! Keep praying.

Because of Faith

VIOLA ROBERSON NOVEMBER 2, 2022

One year ago today, I took my Mom to Vidant thinking she had a small stroke. Eleven hours later, the ED Dr. walked in and asked me why I brought her there. I said she looked different, her voice sounded different, and she was acting different. His response was a shock. “Good catch. She has a mass growing on her brain and we are keeping her here. I recommend that you go home, rest, and get ready”.

This is mom today, Viola Roberson. Because of her faith, she is still here with us. She is beautiful inside and out!

While undergoing chemotherepy and immunotherapy.

Four weeks and three hospitals later, she completed the 1st round of chemo for lymphoma. It didn’t go well. Her tumor was larger and had significant swelling and she was extremely weak. The Dr. felt that it was time to stop chemo. He said that she had a minimal chance of any improvement...less than 1%. Mama told that Dr. she had faith, so she’d take her chances with that 1% and she would continue treatment.

I’m thankful for her faith, thankful for the guys in my family members that were strong thru the ugliest of moments. I’m thankful for friends that stepped in, the EMTs that came out to help me check her vitals, the prayer chains, the Drs, the sweetest nurses in the world, faith in God, & the complete strangers that offered help.

After being in the hospital 2.5 weeks from having chemo. She had also caught long Covid and had double pnuemonia. Meeting her first great-grandchild Christmas 2021.

But mostly, I’m thankful for her. And after all she has been through, she looks so beautiful!

We were honored once again to host Quilts of Valor on Saturday 12 Nov at 11 AM as they awarded seven very deserving Veterans their quilts. Thank you to the Quilts of Valor for all that you do for our Veterans! Big thanks to everyone who made it out for this beautiful celebration, paying homage to ALL branches of the US Military with our utmost respect.

These are one of those events that touch American hearts deeply. We proudly thank all our Veterans and Soldiers for your courageous efforts on our Country’s behalf.

A HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who participated in the 13th Annual Toy Run Ride on December 3rd.!!! We can’t express how much this level of support means to us. This years Toy Run was an amazing turnout and because of it, an exceptional number of children are going to have the opportunity of enjoying a magical Christmas. Thank you so much for all your love and support. We would like to take this moment and address the Police escort situation that took place on Saturday. As many of you know, ALL of our traditional bigger rides are always Police escorted. Unfortunately, we were not able to have such luck this time around. However, we do apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused any of you. Your safety is paramount to us which is why we work so hard in doing what we can with what we have. Please note, there were quite a few riders that had stepped up and offered their help in ensuring the ride went smoothly. We’re greatly appreciative of the efforts made on your behalf.

Fallen Heroes Wreath Program

NASH, WILSON & FRANKLIN COUNTIES, NC

Today, like every year on the first Saturday in December, I had the opportunity to participate in the fallen heros wreath program with my brothers from Buckhorn chapter of Enforcers MC. Placing wreaths upon the final resting places of law enforcement officers that have lost their lives in service to our communities. Reading the bios for each and hearing how each hero lost their lives has got to be one of the most humbling experiences I have ever been a part of. It is an honor to do this every year. Thanks to the Fallen Heroes Wreath Program for allowing us to do this.

This program was started by the family of Philadelphia Police Officer John Pawlowski who was killed in the line of duty on February 13, 2009. Johnny was the last of seven Philadelphia Police Officers who had been killed in a two year period of time.

His family was inspired by the national Wreaths Across America program and wanted to find a way to honor other Fallen Officers who were were interred in the same cemetery with John. That first year’s effort, which began with a fleeting thought and 18 gravesites, was the beginning of what would become a national memorial program.

To date, we have functioning chapters in Pennsylvania, Arizona, Delaware, Michigan, New Jersey, Florida, Maryland, Tennessee, North Carolina, Georgia, Kentucky, Utah and New York. We also honor Fallen Officers in Alaska, Alabama, Missouri and South Dakota.

We continue to grow each year and are proud for this program to be a part of Johnny’s legacy.

We would like to THANK EVERYONE that came out to WEBBS MILL in the rain to help us with Batchelor’s 29th Annual Toy Run this year!

Many riders and non riders came out to help put a smile on kids faces. We had a very successful run even though the riding conditions weren’t the best.

With your help, we raised $ 5105.00 going to TRBA Toy Ministry and a truck/trailer full of bicycles, trailer full of toys helping families in the local area.

A big Thanks to the participants, sponsors, cooks, all of the Batchelors Toy Run Staff and Pete and Cathy for a beautiful place to have the toy run (Webbs Mill Event Center).

The Bullwinkle Chronicles

This month is when I look back at the things I’ve done, the places I’ve been and the people I’ve met in the last year and while doing it this year I felt led to try to encourage those who follow my journey on Facebook and here in Behind Barz Motorcycle Magazine, especially believers in Jesus, to be humble and to be kind to people. Every aspect of society has been stereotyped but only the biker community has been painted in a way that has deceived almost everyone outside of it into believing we are inherently evil and violent people but nothing could be further from the truth…

A few years ago I spent the night with a state trooper (I didn’t know he was in law enforcement at the time) who told me that he was glad that I accepted his invitation to spend the night because I had destroyed everything he had been told about who bikers are. I don’t believe that state troopers are the only ones who have been taught to distrust and fear anyone in leather jackets, patched up vests and tattoos but I do believe that stereotype can be destroyed by our actions.

It is up to those of us who wear the title of biker, especially bikers like myself who are Christians, to tear down the walls between us and society as a whole. The way to remove the barriers is for us to be humble in our understanding that those who fear us have been wrongly taught and it is our kindness to them that will change their perspective of us. Every non-believing biker I have ever met (except one 1%er) has been kind, hospitable and generous to me but I cannot say the same about every believing biker I’ve met…

As a believer, whether a biker or not, our goal is to know God personally and to make Him known primarily through our actions and not so much through our words but sadly many believing bikers don’t understand that. Too often motorcycle ministries are little more than extensions of a particular denomination that is trying to increase its membership instead of properly introducing people to their Father and that must stop if we want to see an end to the stereotype of the church in the eyes of the biker community.

I didn’t mean to get into preaching but I have seen too many lives impacted in negative ways by the not so kind words and actions of believers who ride scooters but do not live up to the code true bikers live by. The biker code is simply to live with love, loyalty, honor and respect towards every biker (and cager) regardless of the make of the scooter they ride. Unlike the majority of church denominations that demand uniformity from those they consider their equals, all that matters to us is that they ride.

I said all that to try to encourage believers who ride and want to make a difference in the biker community to follow the example of a man in the Bible named Barnabus. The Bible says that “Barnabus was a kind man who was full of the Spirit and was bold in his faith and as a result many were added to the Kingdom…” and there is no doubt in my mind that those traits can and do change lives. of scripture that those who are in a motorcycle ministry need to understand too because I believe it is the reason the ministry I do and have done in the biker community has been so successful. Romans 2:4 says that it is the goodness of God that leads people to Him and to me that means that when we allow the love of God to flow through us to the people we meet it will open a door into their lives so that we can then share the gospel with them….in words this time.

Again, I didn’t mean to preach, I just want to encourage believing bikers to reexamine their approach to ministry and to rely on the love, goodness and kindness of the Spirit flowing through them to draw people to our God. It is those things flowing through us, not denominational laws and by-laws, that will destroy the stereotype of the Church that most of the biker community and society as a whole has accepted as true. One more thing many Christian’s have to get hold of is to stop being offended by the behavior and language of those outside the Church walls, we cannot expect them to be like-minded with us.

It is my prayer for 2023 that the riding season this year will not only be the safest yet, but that it will be the most fruitful for the Kingdom of God I’ve seen to date.

Each Dec. 31st at 11:59 brings a 60 second countdown to the begining of a new year of 31,536,000 seconds for the next year.

31,536,000 seconds that keep ticking away, lost forever.

One day time as we know it will stop.

Some of the best Kickstand up rides started out and turned into desiring that they wouldn’t end but knew that they would.

Time determines everything, and knowing how much one has determines your actions.

Jesus tells us that there is a year in the future where after a thousand years time of days and nights will stop. There will be no more nights.

No more Darkness. Physically and Spiritually.

The spiritual Darkness happening every day and night now is being counted down by God the Father .

He’s going to finally say ENOUGH! Of this moral decline of humanity, evil, disease and deception. To avoid the deception part one has to come to a knowledge of Truth that is in Christ Jesus, and the time is now.

Being born again not only gives us eternal life, but also a mind that will not be deceived by the acceptance of the moral decline we see happening.

When will this stop, when will the wrong be made right?

Right now good is called evil and evil is called good. Isaiah 5:20

Satan offers a strange mixture of just enough good to disguise the evil along his downward path of destruction.

The only freedom from that is, ”if the Son sets you free you are free indeed.”

“A DOG’S

First let me say “thank you” to every one of you reading this and I hope that you and your friends and family enjoyed your holiday season and have a GREAT New Year! I sincerely hope that you enjoy “Riding With JayBird” and reading Behind Barz Magazine as much as we enjoy bringing it to you. Without your loyal readership, we have no reason to be here. This article in particular is special to me because as you can see, dogs are very special to me. I know that not every person reading this will feel the same way, and that’s alright, we are all different but I consider my dog a family member. My dog is a loyal companion who I have dedicated my life to. There are sacrifices that come with bringing a dog into your home as my fellow dog owners all acknowledge, but the joy that my dog brings me is well worth the sacrifice! I have learned his ways and he has learned mine in ways that I would’ve never expected and he often surprises me as to how well he knows my habits and routines.

No matter how my day is going, he somehow knows and is there with a needed smile and wagging tail that let’s me know that he is always there for me. Life for a dog is on a different clock than it is for us as humans and sometimes we forget that every moment with us is special to them. It makes no difference how much money you have, or what kind of motorcycle you ride, what’s important to your dog is you! They love us UNCONDITIONALLY. Imagine what the world would be like if we loved each other the way our dogs love us. War would be nothing more than a belly rub and a pat on the head. Sometimes, those that teach us the most about real love, compassion, and humanity are not human at all. Our dogs are a direct reflection of our own treatment of them and all it takes is to look them in their eyes to understand that their love for us is so basic and true. We should all aspire to be the people that our dogs think we are! I just read a quote that says, “the average dog is a nicer person than the average person”. Please go back and read that again slowly. It makes no difference how rich, how talented, or how friendly you seem to other people, the way you treat your dog tells me everything I need to know about you as a person. No matter what the government says about dogs being “property”, you need only look into a dogs eyes to see and KNOW that there is a soul begging for love looking back at you. Some people will never know or understand how much someone can love a dog, but that’s alright too because the dog knows. I always enjoy spending time with my dog because I understand one simple truth and that’s the fact that even though my world is divided in so many ways and with so many obligations and responsibilities my dog’s only love is me. I am his entire life and I try to never take that for granted. After all, you will NEVER look back and say, “I spent too much time with my dog”. Life is short, but everyone should have a dog to greet them when they get home. That is a love and a joy that only a dog lover like myself will understand and if you’ve read this far, you already know too! Happy New Year to you... and your dog! I hope to see him with you when we are out and about!.

Hello My Happy People!

I mean here we are, we are actually doing around 80 mph and all they are really paying attention to is... who said what on Fakebook, or watching tok tic. Anything can happen! A blow out from a front tire at 80 mph can change someone’s else’s entire life.

When you make the gesture for them to pay attention to the road, somehow you’ve just become an asshole. How dare I wish to persevere my life. How dare I not want to become a greasy spot on the highway. I’ve seen people flip their cars over by simply reaching over to turn the stereo. How dare I ask them not to have their cellphone in their face.

Wind therapy is real, ladies and gentlemen. It’s a mixture of freedom and thrill. It comes with new adventures and danger around each corner. Riding will help you erase the issues of the moment. Your mind and body seems to transform and you become one with the steel horse. As you twist back that throttle and you start seeing those dotted lines turn into one solid line and the sound of thunder rumbles behind you. I can go on and on but I’m sure you are catching on.

The only thing that actually sucks about riding. Is sharing the road with morons! With all this technology in the world. People feel they have got to stay connected to their phones. I’m being real and I got to tell you. Nothing makes my nervous system more on edge than to be traveling down a highway with a 70 mph speed limit sign. You happen to look over at the person driving their car and in their face is a cellphone.

I was riding with the club just the other day. We went to another’s clubs party and hung out. We were planning on coming back and being closer to our neck of the woods before it got dark. Well, things didn’t go as planned but no big deal. As we came into Lenoir Co. we all started branching off in our own directions. Some of my brothers were going home and others were hitting the local watering holes. I live in Wayne County so I kept getting it on 70. When I rode in front of Walmart in Kinston I was damn near ran over! As I was slowing down for the traffic light a red car comes out of the parking lot into the highway, going the wrong way. The car was traveling in the oncoming traffic. I didn’t have really no time to react. The road was wet and slamming the brakes was definitely not an option. I still tapped the breaks enough to cause my rear tire to break traction and while that was happening I was dodging the car. The ass end of my bike was coming to a 45 degree angle but the front of the bike was straight. I barely made it passed the car, and I pulled over to the side of the road to watch what I was expecting to be a wreck. Thank God, no wreck happened. People started turning away to dodge the car too, until the car went into the grass. When I ran over to the car with intentions to do bodily harm to the driver, It turned out to be a small boy. His mother was running across the road to catch up to him. I didn’t stick around. I looked up to the Heaven’s and thanked God for allowing me to go home to my family in one piece. I can’t tell you how close I was to smashing my bike but just know it was close. IF one of my brothers was to just happened to be with me. I would be telling a whole different story because there would have been no room for nobody else.

It’s situations like this that will mess with your mind and give you second thoughts about riding motorcycles. I don’t mean to be pessimistic about riding. They don’t look for motorcycles. They most times don’t look for anything. This world has gotten where people live their lives with blinders on. Nobody cares it seems. I remember back in the day, I would see a car broke down on the side of the road and I would pull over and see if I could lend a hand. I used to do this a lot actually but now you have to worry about someone taking advantage of a situation like this.

Your thought process is, are they going to rob you, or kill you and take your ride. Especially around here where I live. Kinston and Goldsboro have become so dangerous. You can’t just walk the sidewalks no more without worrying if you are going to have to use your own gun to protect yourself.

People suck!

I remember when Kinston was just a quiet little town. People would give a two finger wave off the steering wheel when they passed. I could remember seeing kids riding their bicycles and skateboards down sidewalks and people who lived in town would be out in their yards working. Now the doors are all locked up and they pay people to do the yard work. Why do we have to live this way? Constantly living in fear.

It’s been a dream for me and my wife to move to the mountains of North Carolina. Every time we go visit the mountains, we come back home with a wonderful experience. We talk about how the people who live there are so much different than the people we live around. How much nicer, and more welcoming to speak to. We’ve had unfortunate situations to happen, like our van broke down this last time we went. The garage that came to our aid, not only helped me fix my van but did it for nothing. I literally had to almost force the mechanic to take my money. I mean it was was a Saturday evening. The van blew a radiator hose connector and it wasn’t a big deal to fix but it was a Saturday and all the car garages were closed. The mechanic said, “Hey man, I have been there before let me help you.” It’s moments like that. Thats why we dream of living in the mountains. I mean, that’s not all the reasons but it sure helps knowing we will be living around good people. Not to forget to mention that the motorcycle riding in the mountains will be awesome!

I bet that’s the real wind therapy. That mountain air! Oh man! The air, the views, and the twists and turns. Yelp, I’m ready to go live there now man. Maybe one day.

Blue Knights NC Chapter 2

Wake County Chapter

Blue Knights NC Chapter 2 is one of the only all law enforcement motorcycle clubs in existence. They require members to either be current sworn law enforcement officers or have retired as sworn law enforcement officers in good standings. The Blue Knights are a non-profit organization that does charity rides for officers and their families who are injured or killed in the line of duty and also to benefit our local communities.

On October 8, 2022 they did an amazing ride called the Le Tour De Femme. This is where the Blue Knights ride alongside these amazing women who have beaten cancer or are going through it. They ride alongside to make sure they are all safe. These women are on bicycles doing 1 of the 3 different length courses to raise awareness for people battling cancer and the Blue Knights every year, are there, by their sides to make sure they all stay safe. This is just a taste of what this group does around their community. They will soon be hosting a Back The Blue ride on March 25, 2023 that will raise money for fallen officers that are killed or severely injured in the line of duty. They also just made a donation in November 2022 to the Kiwanis Pancake Dinner which supports underprivileged local children. If you are a law enforcement officer or a retired law enforcement officer this group is truly an amazing group to be a part of. They are more than just a group, they are a family. They welcome any interested potential members or the public to stop by one of their meetings. They meet every second Tuesday of every month at 7:00pm at Logans in Garner NC.

Blue Knights International pledge: “As a Blue Knight, I pledge to act with honor and pride to promote motorcycling and motorcycle safety by being an example of the safe use, operation and enjoyment of motorcycles. I will work at all times to improve the relationship between the motorcycling law enforcement community and the general public. The fraternal spirit will always guide me in relating to other Blue Knights.”

Daniel “Red”Bass We Remember

On October 30, 2022, at the age of 57, Daniel “Red” Bass passed away. He was born June 28, 1965. He was preceded in death by his father James Billy Bass. Red leaves to cherish his memory, his mother, Mary R. Bass; brother Charles Ray Bryant (Becky); Maria B. Young and Denise B. Faircloth (David); “sister” Kim Taylor special close friends Paul and Dede Walker, Sandra and Allen Williams; several nieces, nephews, and many other close friends.

Some folks knew Daniel by his given name. I grew up knowing him as, “Red”, others knew him as “Red Dawg”. He probably had a few nicknames or road names. But ask anyone who knew him and they would tell ya the same thing, Red was always a happy guy. He loved life and he loved his friends and family! He was always up for an adventure. Always willing to try new things...and always ready to go anywhere. Red’s Celebration of Life was held on Saturday, November 12, 2022. It was a huge turnout with many bikes in attendance. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Second of multiple stops / events for today...Ride To Eat - across - USA ---> BIG TIP / ROAD TRIP!!! as an extension to the RTE-x-USA ---> the Crazy One Eye Biker out did himself, with this End of the Year Event!!! Concept was simple - ride 1k mi / grab some grub / leave a Big Tip!!! A few of us met Eric & Jeff - at the end of their 1k at Grub Durham. GREAT Company / Eric’s Mom & Dad were there and Peter & myself. Food was Really Good / will def go back again!!! ...and the Service was EXCELLENT!!! Thus, the BIG TIP - just in time for Christmas!!! They will be talking about us at Grub Durham for quite some time. We really made their day!!!

Eastern NC Shovel Fest

This was the 2nd Annual official Shovel Fest on the east Coast and it was at Old School Bike Shop in Louisburg, N.C.!!!

Lots of folks came out to get their Shovel Head fix! It was a gorgeous day, perfect weather (sunny skies with 70s for temps) for an event with many folks stopping by throughout the day. There were lots of vendors. Great food was served up by Paw Lee’s Barbeque and Catering, Zorry’s Tacos and Bunn Lion’s Club! Thanks to Tommy Thunderfoot and The Accelorators for rocking the stage! Coolers were welcome and some even brought their own chairs to relax throughout the day in. Birdies Beads and Blades was on hand sewing patches and selling her wears, as well as several other vendors.

For 18 years we have included stickers in each issue of the magazine. I personally put each and every sticker in each and every copy myself (Doobie)!!! Here lately folks have gotten bad about been pulling stickers out of many copies...I guess because they like the stickers so much. It has happened in the past but not like it has the last few issues. It is unfair to others who pick up a copy of the magazine only to find that their copy does not have a sticker. So, starting with the Jan-Feb 2023 issue of Behind Barz we are not going to place stickers in each copy. We will have stickers available for FREE but you have to send a self addressed, stamped envelope to our PO Box listed on previous page. We will then send you the sticker that goes with this issue (if you write “FROG” on the envelope) plus we will throw in 3 more stickers, of our choice. We hate this has to be done but with the time it takes to place each sticker in every copy and then people are pulling the stickers out we feel that this is the best way to do it right now. Thanks for your continued support! We still have lots of killer prizes from our sponsors on the previous page to give away. So remember, you can’t win it if you don’t stick it!
