nc Support Our Troops

NC SUPPORT OUR TROOPS located in Ayden, North Carolina is a nonprofit organization formed with the mission to support troops and their family members by providing care and comfort items and expressions of appreciation for their service and sacrifices.

Packing care packages for our deployed troops is a way to show your support and appreciation for the service and sacrifices by our military members. We also provide support for troops at home, their families and veterans.

The end of last year our team of volunteers had to work from home because of not having a building to meet in and work from.

We met these challenges while supporting troops through deployments and homeland activations. We continued with support from caring volunteers and donors who want our troops to know that America cares about and appreciates their service.

We are now in our new location and we are looking forward to 2024. Below are some suggestions on how you can help...

Ideas: Order items from Amazon, assemble goody bags with 6-8 items in a sandwich or party bag, add signed cards. Make as many as your family, church or bike group can help with! Make financial contributions for postage. Groups are welcome to setup GoFund me pages for postage. Our financial donations have dropped significantly and monetary donations for postage is our greatest need.

Please don’t forget our military members who are serving away from home and family this year.

Thank you!

Photo below:

This is one day’s mailing of care packages to deployed troops. How much do you think this costs???? Approximately $660!!! We need your support continued throughout the mission. Please spread the news of our mission and ask for support from churches, businesses and motorcycle groups. Our troops need to know that they are not forgotten and America still cares about their service.

Perfect Day To Ride

El Azteca Style

KINSTON, NC

Today was a perfect day to get out and just ride!

Hunter got to hang out with us today, too! He doesn’t get to ride a bike much anymore so it was so good to see him tearing up the road a little.

It Is Your Choice

I do not “ride”. I am actually a passenger on my husband’s bike. I searched for the proper biker term for “passenger” and the only one that I could find was “back warmer”. I have not been able to determine if that is a “good” definition or one that should make me blush if I use it in public. Either way, it’s an apt description of just what my function on the back of the bike is (along with backrest raiser, wardrobe adjuster, and cramp massager).

One of the first things that I had to accept as a passenger on my husband’s bike is that I am not in control — at all. I can voice an opinion and my husband does consult me about our destination, but the ride is not in my hands. I don’t control when we stop and when we go. I don’t control the weather we ride in or the road conditions we endure. I don’t even choose how quickly or how slowly we get to our destination, or what route we take to get there. All of those choices are in the hands of the one behind the bars — and that is not me.

I do, however, have a choice in how I ride. I can choose to ride with anticipation of where we will go and what we will experience. Or I can choose to ride in dread of what could go wrong. I can ride with high hopes or low ones. I can enjoy the perfect moments or dwell on the problems. If it rains, I can be thankful the fields we ride past are getting much needed rain, or I can whine about getting wet. I can be thankful for the roads we travel, or I can gripe about the street conditions or the traffic that we have to navigate. I can enjoy the

sunshine or fuss because it’s hot. I can enjoy the wind or complain because it’s cold. I can be thankful when God saves us from an inattentive driver, or I can ruin a perfectly good ride by letting anger overtake good sense.

As a passenger, I am not in charge of the journey. I’ll get where we’re going either way. However, it is my choice how I ride: hopeful or hopeless, cheerful or begrudgingly, fearful or trusting.

When you ride with God, there are times when you will have to travel a road you would not have chosen. You may have to weather a storm you would have preferred to avoid. It might be a storm of serious illness. Perhaps it’s a storm of betrayal. Or a storm of painful, debilitating injury. Maybe it’s a storm of the loss of a loved one.

No matter what road God takes you down, you still have choices. You can choose to see only the dark side of the journey. Or you can choose to trust Him to show you how to hold on to hope in the hard parts of the ride. You can grouse and gripe and moan because His way isn’t your way. Or you can seek opportunities to be thankful in the delays and detours in your journey. You can wallow in dismay and let bitterness over the bumps in the road settle in and spread like rot on a bad apple. Or you can choose to endure suffering with hope and in expectation of God’s good plan for your life. Even in the hardest, bitterest moments of life, God gives us reasons to be thankful. Whether we take the time to seek them out is our choice.

Riding with God is our choice, too. Do you ride with Him? I do. When I was 26, I reached a point where I understood that there was no such thing as “good enough” to go to Heaven when I died.

Only Jesus was good enough, because only perfect is good enough to get to heaven. Jesus is the only one who can save us, because He is the only one who could — and has — paid the price for our sins by dying in our place. And after Jesus died, He rose again and conquered death so that it no longer has power over those who trust in Him. Once I realized that, I bent my knees and bowed my head. I admitted to God that I could never reach heaven in my own strength.

I told God that I believed Jesus died to pay for my sins and rose again so He could offer me life in heaven, and I asked Jesus to be my Savior and my Lord.

If you don’t ride with God, there’s still time to make that choice. Make it soon. Make it now. None of us know when our time here is done. Don’t let anything keep you from the most important decision you will ever make. Riding with God isn’t always smooth, but there’s no one better to navigate the rough roads and tough storms of this life with than the One who loves us so much.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

One of our absolute favorite things is being able to give back to this amazing community that we call home! Recently, we held our 6th Annual Ride for Autism in partnership with SOS Care. It started at The Harley Shop at The Beach

then we stopped at Myrtle Beach HD and the after party was held at the Beaver Bar in Murrells Inlet, SC. We’re proud to report that it was the BIGGEST TURNOUT EVER for this ride! After combining efforts with The Harley Shop at the Beach and the Beaver Bar in Murrells Inlet, over 200 bikes and 300 riders

came together to raise $6,471 for individuals with Autism and other intellectual disabilities right here in Horry County!

We want to extend a huge thank you to everyone who was involved in making this incredible event and accomplishment possible!

Blue Knights NC Chapter 2

RALEIGH, NC

Photos:

The Blue Knights of Wake County Chapter 2 strives to better the community around them by donating to charities and participating in escort rides. The latest charity the Blue Knights NC Chapter 2 donated to was The United States Naval Sea Cadets.

The US Naval Sea Cadets is an organization that gives kids the skills, knowledge, and confidence through a variety of training opportunities. Some of their activities include sailing, aviation, security, building robots, medical, STEM, SCUBA, submarines, photography, culinary, special forces training and much more. The Sea Cadets came to one of our monthly meetings and introduced everyone to the program and the entire chapter voted in favor of donating to this cause. Not only did the Blue Knights pay for a cadet to be added to the program but they paid for two children who happen to be brothers. Their family could not afford for them to go but due to the Blue Knight’s of Wake County these brothers were able to join this program. The brothers are excelling in the program today and the family is so grateful and thankful. They are currently organizing another donation to this program and so far can guarantee that at least two more young people can attend this program. So if you would like to support NC chapter 2 please come out when they are out and about in the community. Their Facebook page, Blue Knights Wake County Supporters, will soon have ways you can donate to this great group. No one in the Blue Knights Wake County Chapter is paid and all donations will go to the causes they support. They really need our help to keep helping their community and since the Blue Knights are a non-profit 501(c) all your donations are tax deductible.

On Saturday, April 6th the Blue knights NC 2 participated in an Officer Down Memorial Ride hosted by the NC VIII Chapter out of Greenville, NC. This ride is in remembrance for all officers who have unfortunately passed away and this year was special for NC because it was also in honor of Robert “Bud” Overby the Chapter President for NC VIII and the State Representative for all the NC Chapters of the Blue Knights. Seventeen members from the Wake County Chapter and their close friends from the Johnston County Chapter XII made the chilly ride to Greenville to participate and remember their fallen “family” members. Over 150 riders from all over the East Coast came and participated in this ride that was escorted by the local police through the beautiful roads of Greenville to The Mayflower Restaurant in Greenville where all participants were treated to a great meal.

The Blue Knights strive to put their name out there to gain more members but also to build a relationship between the police and all riders. Upcoming events for the Blue Knights is Angier Bike Fest May 31st - June 1st. The Blue Knights will have a tent set up and will be able to take your contributions. On September 21 The Blue Knights will be teamed up with Whole Vet to host the third annual Motor Muscle Excursion that will be open to ALL types of motorized vehicles. It will start at Bulldog Harley Davidson with registration beginning at 9AM and rolling by 11AM. This ride will end at Garden State Grill in Lillington where there will be festivities and great food. So if you can’t make it to Bulldog for the start, please come out to the Garden State Grill where there will still be opportunities to support these two great organizations. facebook.com/behindbarzMag

And also look for their second annual Blue Knights Car and Motorcycle Show. So please clear your calendar for these events, go join the Blue Knights Wake County Supporters page of Facebook and please come out and help support this great group who do so much for their local communities and the brave men and women of law enforcement who keep our communities safe..

Motor Maids 2024 PMS

WINCHESTER, VA

Story & photos: Sharon Pence

Hear Ye! Hear Ye!

Rumor has it that Punxsutawney Phil, the seer of seers, did not see his shadow and have a reason to go back into hiding on this February 2, 2024, Ground Hog Day. An early Spring is on the way! Now, we all know that Phil is really a biker in disguise, and just can’t wait to get his bike on the road this spring.

Now let me get back on track, February 2, 2024 Motor Maids must have heard the news of Phil not seeing his shadow. Motor Maids from all around the neighboring states started Springing in, to the Holiday Inn, at Winchester, VA to meet up with fellow members to start exploring the Winchester and surrounding areas to see what fun they could get into. The Annual Parked Motor Cycle Syndrome (PMS) has begun. This is a tradition, that Silver Life member, Glennadine Gouldman, has carried on for years and is still going strong.

Friday afternoon members of the VA/WV district began setting up snacks and drinks in the party room for the nights raffles and games to begin. PMS is a winter event for the Ladies to get out after being cooped up during the cold winter months, have fun, play cards, and talk about their bikes and upcoming travels for the year.

Saturday morning the hotel was nice enough to serve a buffet breakfast for the Motor Maids to enjoy while deciding on which directions of travel and sight-seeing they were going to do for the day. Some of the girls decided to head for Harpers Ferry to hike up to the Jefferson Rock. Harpers

Ferry is one of the most history rich places in the country. From Civil War battles to exploring the museums and historical buildings there is much to see and explore in this West Virginia town. Several ladies ventured into town to Skyline Harley-Davidson to see the new bikes arriving in the shop. I know a few of the ladies went to OLD Town Winchester to walk around the walking mall checking out the various shops and some visited the Shenandoah Valley Civil War Museum. Hollywood Casino in Charles Town was also a hot spot to visit. If you are into slots and table games this was the place to visit.

Saturday evening many of the group went to the Golden Corral for dinner but there were a lot of ladies eating at the restaurant in the hotel. Around 8 o’clock we drew names for the raffle items that were donated for the event and for the 50/50 drawing. I think all the winners had a lot of fun and we had some nice gifts to be raffled off. I will give a word to the wise, don’t go to bed before the raffle drawings, you never know what will become of your ticket and what you might win or not win. I think we all enjoyed the MM PMS cake that someone thought they had won.

I have never seen some of the games that were being played, Mexican Train dominos, puzzles, UNO, 5 Crowns these games are new to me but they played way into the evening.

We had Motor Maids attending from the following states: VA/WV, Md, SC, NC, NJ, NY, Pa and IN, I hope I have included everyone.

Let’s all thank Glennadine for another great PMS and many more to come.

Judy’s Journey: Riding Solo

As the sun rose over Ocean Isle, North Carolina, a 27-year-old woman named Judy Kay mounted her VTX 1800 CC motorcycle, revved the engine, and embarked on a journey that would not only cover miles but also mark the beginning of an extraordinary adventure. This is the story of Judy’s first solo motorcycle trip, a tale of freedom, courage, and the open road.

Ocean Isle to Daytona: The Call of the Horizon

Judy’s journey began with the Atlantic breeze at her back, heading south towards the legendary Daytona Bike Week. As the coastline gave way to the open highway, Judy found herself not just riding a motorcycle, but riding a dream. At Daytona, she joined the safety team for Supercross, ensuring the event was not only exhilarating for the spectators but also safe for the participants. Her role was crucial, her presence undeniable, and her spirit, indomitable.

From the Roar of Engines to the Silence of the Keys

After the adrenaline-fueled days at Daytona, Judy continued her voyage to Miami, where the vibrant city life contrasted with the solitude of the road. She soaked in the culture, the sights, and the sounds of the Magic City before setting her compass to the southernmost point of the continental United States - Key West.

The journey to Key West was more than just a ride; it was a transition from the familiar roar of motorcycle engines to the serene whispers of the ocean. The road stretched out before her, a ribbon of possibilities, leading to a place where the sky kisses the sea, and the sunsets are a daily spectacle.

Solo to the Heart of Adventure

Behind Barz: A Chronicle of Freedom

Judy’s story is one of many that grace the pages of Behind Barz, a motorcycle magazine that captures the essence of the biker lifestyle. Her tale is a testament to the spirit of adventure that pulses through the veins of every rider. It’s about the freedom found on two wheels, the camaraderie of the biker community, and the unspoken bond that connects every individual who has ever felt the call of the horizon.

Judy Kay’s solo trip is not just a journey measured in miles but in moments of self-discovery, challenges overcome, and the joy of living life Behind Barz.

Judy’s narrative is a beacon for all those who seek adventure, who yearn to break free from the ordinary and embrace the extraordinary. It’s a reminder that the road is not just a path but a destination in itself, and every mile traveled is a story waiting to be told.

Adding to the chronicle of Judy’s solo motorcycle trip, it’s noteworthy to mention that the entire odyssey spanned an impressive 2500 miles, weaving through the heart of America and stopping in four different states. Each state offered its unique backdrop, culture, and roads that called to Judy’s spirit of adventure, contributing to the rich tapestry of her journey.

From the sandy shores of Ocean Isle to the bustling streets of Daytona, from the sultry ambiance of Miami to the laid-back charm of Key West, Judy’s route was as diverse as it was scenic. It was a journey that tested her limits, broadened her horizons, and ultimately, showcased the indomitable spirit of a solo rider.

For more stories like Judy’s, check out Behind Barz Mag (online or in print), where the spirit of the ride comes alive in every word and every picture.

Ride on, Judy, ride on.

Ain’t it weird how time seems to fly by faster the older we get and the realization that it doesn’t wait for anyone becomes more than a reality with age too. I’ll be 70 years old on my next birthday and I still don’t know how that happened, it seems like I was in my 40’s just a year ago. I find myself pondering things more as I get older and at times my mind wanders off to some strange places and it usually doesn’t take me with it. One day not too long ago I was thinking about how old I am when I realized that I have been alive for 8 decades, 2 centuries and 2 millennia…I told myself to shut up and go for a ride!

Speaking of going for a ride, May means that it’s that time of year again for the majority of the country to roll the scooters out of the shop and put down some serious miles. I’m hoping to be able to do a lot more riding this year than I could last year but time and a few rides will tell if my neck and shoulder will hold up to a 5-800 mile a day ride. I spent all winter keeping them stress free and I bought an inversion table that has done wonders to relieve the pain so I am gonna do some short rides (1-200 miles round trip) this spring and early summer and work up the miles gradually so I can do the ride to Sturgis this summer….

Though my mind goes on excursions without me and returns with some pretty strange thoughts it only does that when I’m trying to take a break from ministering to people. When I’m doing what I do I’m always praying for Divine appointments, wisdom and direction because I don’t ever want to get ahead of what God is trying to do which is something I do all too often. When I started preparing to write this article for Behind Barz I asked the Spirit to give me something fresh and relevant for this riding season and He responded to me almost immediately with what I believe is a challenge for everyone reading this, especially for Christian patriots.

Regardless of whether we agree or disagree with each other’s views on politics and religion I hope we can agree that we have been blessed to be born in the freest nation on earth and as such we have a duty to protect and defend our liberties so we can pass our republic on to the next generation in as good or better shape than when we inherited it….

As a believer with 45 years of pastoral ministry I’ve witnessed the decline of the moral compass of society and with it the future of our republic. If we are going to save this republic from the tyranny of an out of control government we have to make our voices heard, first by the Lord and then by our government representatives. I may have written about what I have been doing all over this country since I became a homeless scooter tramp but I feel led to share it again because there is so much at risk.

I’ve learned during my time in ministry that the most powerful tool we have as believers is found when we humble ourselves and pray for God’s wisdom and guidance. There is no doubt in my mind that the times we’re in now are perilous and our only hope for survival as a Constitutional Republic is for God to intervene and for Him to intervene His children have only to ask Him with sincerity.

The strategy to change the course of America’s future that the Lord showed me years ago is pretty simple and will have an effect that will reverberate throughout the country if it is received and implemented. The critical issue we face is the time remaining before the 2024 election cycle ends so we can’t waste time, we must become serious about our responsibility to defend our God given rights from government overreach…

The Bullwinkle Chronicles

Livin ' The Life 24

ullwinkle hronicles

All across the country bikers are making plans for weekend rides with their friends this year but the majority of the rides are focused on finding the best roads through the most beautiful areas to a particular destination which is ok in normal times but these are not normal times. We can do those rides through the countryside to our favorite restaurants or bars with no goal other than to be in the saddle but we can and should incorporate a purpose with our planned destination…

Believers who are involved with planning rides or road trips should take the time to research the routes to their destination so that they go past churches or other places people congregate so they can pray for the people who attend. For almost a decade whenever I’ve been able to plan a leisurely ride I will make a conscious effort to pray for every church, school or gathering place where people go seeking truth or direction for their lives as I ride by them. I’m convinced that if believers, bikers or cagers, will take the time and make a committed effort to pray for the Spirit of God to awaken the Church to its responsibility for the stewardship of the republic He inspired our

founders to create He will restore our moral compass and save this republic. It doesn’t matter if you are the only believer in the pack, you can still plan your rides to go by churches so you can pray and no one else has to know what your reason for planning the route was….

Our Republic was established on Judeo Christian values and if we fail to respect and defend those core values we will end up in the dustbin of history next to Rome and every other secular nation and empire that has fallen….this riding season praying bikers/ believers could be the catalyst God uses to save America if only we, His people, would humble ourselves, pray and turn from our ways.

It is my hope and prayer that some believers reading this will hear and embrace the strategy the Spirit gave to me years ago to pray for the Church to come together in unity to save our republic for generations to come.

”HD MOCO”

the good news!

Rodger Duvall ~ Jesus Freak

Thee Redeemed House biker Church

Life·style...defined by the way in which a person or group lives.

Similar is: way of life, way of living, manner of living, life, situation, position, state, station, fate condition, set of circumstances, lot, conduct, behavior, customs, habits, ways.

Denoting advertising or products designed to appeal to a consumer by association with a desirable lifestyle.

HD MoCo., “a desired lifestyle that appeals to a consumer.”

A standard had to be set, who set the standard for this appealing lifestyle for a Biker.

They were old school. Engineer boots, Jeans, leathers, and t-shirts, no branding. I’m thinking Nomads, Outlaws, a brotherhood of Nomads outlaws. They didn’t fit in to the dealership commercialization marketing.

There were “ bike shops”.

No show room floor, no trendy clothing. They had a couple of bikes for sale, a parts counter and parts room with a small hangout space .

No “Show”, just here we are.

Kinda like “ Religion “. Religion is a commercialized store front to make one’s appearance look a part, having all the lifestyle accessories on the outside but no real life on the inside.

Living to look the part.

Living to ride and riding to live is the heart of the real relationship.

Living it!

The difference between a fan or a follower.

At one point in Jesus’ ride on this earth, He had a lot of people following Him. They followed Him because of the accessories, free food, healing, status, all the dealership merchandise.

Jesus wanted to separate those who were followers from those who were just a fan. His only marketing strategy, was just Him nothing else, He said, IF anyone wants to follow this lifestyle of His way truth and life, one must “define the relationship “, by being committed to Jesus only, the new old School. “Jesus Freak” Rodger.

I think Ive had my share of the pollen this year. Just a hint of wind and my eyes are red as the devil’s butt hole! The fire doesn’t stop there. Sinuses!!! But I think it’s calming down now. It’s a good thing, too. This past ride we did would have sucked! So, I’m glad it didn’t ruin it. It was a good time, too. It’s the Tuckahoe MC Olympics. That is a great time every single year. The games are fun and it helps keep our biker community together. ‘Cause I don’t know what it is...the community is changing. Maybe it’s the economy or just a difference in generational trends. I just seem to notice some differences is all.

I would like to change the subject. I don’t feel like this will get much popularity but I don’t care. I speak my mind

2Cents from 2Timer...

and it’s gotten me into trouble before but most time people with common sense seem to catch on to how I’m seeing the world. So, here I go...

I want to take a second and give a shout out to the spouses of my fellow bikers. Unless you both ride, which is even cooler, by the way, but if you are sharing this two wheeled experience with a soul mate, twin flame, whatever you want to describe the love of your life. I want you to give them some extra appreciation. We bikers live this life but if you are married, or in a serious situation with someone they, too, live this life with you. They share the same love of being with you and doing something that only you two can do together. Face it, a third person on the bike with y’all sounds dangerous...in many categories.

I am a huge fan of my wife! I can’t see my life without her. She went with me to the games. Man! Let me tell ya, when your spouse digs the life you love and live, bruh! That’s heaven on earth to me. But remember what comes with the good can also come with the bad. If you were ever to lay it down by yourself, your soul mate has to forever worry about you. Which they are doing already. If you get F up they will be the one picking up the pieces. Think about that. We enjoy a dangerous but thrilling life, and don’t even want to think if both bikers on the bike hit the bricks.

When I ride with my wife, I’m always thinking, just how fast will I be able to cradle her if something bad was to happen.

Hello My Happy

You see, a brother or sister riding thier bikes along side you on the road is one thing but your soulmate or what have ya is riding with you, that’s different. Riding with not only your life but theirs as well. It’s bonding. It’s connecting. It’s a different kind of closeness. To me that’s a wonderful life on a bike. To share this life and this experience with someone I love and to share the same administration for riding. Shit! That’s the powdered sugar on top of your French toast!!!

Sharing this life with someone who’s in it for the long haul and wants to enter the biker life with you. Man to me that’s the cream of the crop. They got to earn it to appreciate it. It’s then they will be reborn into a new life. Once they share the experience. Share some hard miles and they learn to appreciate a good quality leather jacket. They learn and share what a summer rain can turn into quickly like no bodies business. I mean it’s sunny and you all happy, when out of nowhere your face is plummeted by small wet BBs and about 5 minutes, then your face feels numb and your underwear just got topped off with rain water. Once you share this experience with your love person they will also appreciate the thrill of having a motorcycle and see why us bikers are just a different breed. It’s in our souls to ride. I can’t picture my life without a bike. I just can’t.

Happy People! 2Timer...

My wife, lawd...talk about being your angel on your shoulder when it comes to sharing a biker life. I’ll tell ya this that happened to me. I had broken down on my way back from Gastonia. Nearly 3.5 hours away from home. I called my president and told him the situation. He was thinking of people in the area he could call to help a brother out. As he was doing this I had made one call to my wife. Next thing I know she’s in a truck and she was west bound and down, son! No questions asked. She’s my wife, the other half of my soul. So, when I saw my truck’s headlights pulling up to help me. Bruh! That was a touch from an angel.

That’s why we want to give a shout out to the other half of our souls. ‘Cause they too put 100% in and want to be a part of what makes you, you man and that’s awesome!

Anyway...enough of the mushy stuff. I just felt like we all need to appreciate each other. Our friends list seem to get smaller as we age and it’s nice to know you are loved and valued. So, show that love back.

Well I’m out. I will holler with you next time.

Oh BTW, I’m going to ask to change my name on this to no longer Big Ed but just call me 2Timer. Been called that for over 10 years. I can say it’s stuck to me. So, until next time. Stay safe, and stay between the ditches.

A Feast In Memory of Gary Tant

Cathy Tant & Robin Layman

2 February 2024

Many friends and family all gathered at Old School Bike Shop and Old School Detail in Louisburg, N.C., for a gathering and feast in memory of Gary Tant who was the owner of The Biker Barn. He passed away on 7 February 2020.

George cooked up some mean Biker Barn pork chops and a few home cooked sides. Thanks to everyone who stopped by and brought a dish to add to the feast. It was all delicious!

It was great seeing everyone and reminiscing about old times at The Biker Barn. We all miss Gary!

Ride To Eat

Livin' The The Pisgah Mountain Loop

Just finished a great Sunday afternoon - 81 miles round trip. I’m officially calling it The Pisgah Mountain Loop.

High atop Mount Pisgah, the highest peak visible from Asheville. Since my house is just off the Blue Ridge Parkway, took that all the way here, taking about an hour. A beautiful sunny day, with cool dry air here in the mountains. Passed 30+ other bikers on the Parkway all coming down from doing the same thing. Then jumped back on and headed back via a different route - through the winding farmlands of the Asheville/ Leicester Valley.

Super tight twisties for a fun technical challenge, 9 tunnels, beautiful high altitude vistas, sunny skies, and cool mountain air. The scents of all the new blooms, burning cedar somewhere, and freshly cut grass. Saw 6 deer lazily grazing out in the middle of a green hillside meadow. Watched as a giant hawk scooped up a squirrel from a fence top and flew off with it dangling. Geese, groundhogs, and one dead coyote.

Amazing ride!

Beautiful day here in North Carolina for Indian Motorcycle Riders N.C. to ride. Morrow Mountain and Lefler’s Place Cafe for some great food.

Cooking with The Kitchen Goat

*Goulash*

*Ingredients:*

1 T. oil

1 clove Garlic

1/2 cup chopped onion

1/2 cup chopped celery

1 green pepper chopped

1 lb. ground beef

1 tsp. salt

1/2 tsp. pepper

4 c. canned tomatoes crushed

2 c. macaroni (penne, shells, etc.)

To Taste...Old Mule Basil Bash

*Instructions:*

Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in large skillet. Add minced garlic; brown lightly (do not burn).

Add 1/2 cup of chopped onion and 1/2 cup chopped celery. Cook until onion is soft.

Add 1 teaspoon salt and 1/4 teaspoon pepper. Add 1 pound ground beef; cook until beef is no longer pink.

Add 1 chopped green pepper and 4 cups can crushed tomatoes. Let simmer.

Boil 3 quarts water and 1 teaspoon salt.

Add 2 cups macaroni. Boil 5 minutes; drain; add to ground beef-tomato mixture. Simmer 10 minutes or until macaraoni is done.

Season the goulash with Old Mule Basil Bash to taste.

Serves 4.

Serve with tossed salad and garlic bread.

Recipe is from Jason’s mom, Jane Knapp... This goulash recipe has been passed down from my mother, and it’s a dish I’ve enjoyed since childhood. When I was in college, she taught me how to prepare it. Visit Sunburst Tomatoes and H&R Produce at the Nash County Farmers Market for tomatoes & squash respectively on Saturdays from 8 to 1 on Peachtree Street to gather all the ingredients, including the fantastic spice mixture from Old Mule, to recreate this delicious meal.

The “Kitchen Goat” Jason Knapp

Once a history teacher, he now raises goats in Nash County, NC, but he’s always had a passion for cooking. At the beginning of the COVID pandemic, he started posting cooking videos on YouTube.

“I called it ‘Cooking a la Quarantine’ and once everything lifted up someone said, ‘Why don’t you call it ‘Kitchen Goat’ and I said, ‘That’s so stupid. Let’s try it,’”

Read more about the Kitchen Goat in the next issue of BB. In the meantime, check out his Facebook page for more recipes and see what he is doing for local cancer patients.

Angela Wolfe Tattoos Is Officially Reopen

Angela Wolfe is glad to announce that she has officially reopened her tattoo shop in Wake Forest, NC after battling cancer and winning the fight! She says, “To God Be The Glory”. She is also excited to have a new shop name, Sacred Wolf Tattoos. The new name is part of her journey as she has a new beginning.

Angela has offered Areola (nipple) tattooing to her clients for 13 years, but had never imagined herself having to deal with that very thing. Fortunately, she did well through the treatments and now has been determined cancer free. She is happy to be back in her shop designing and offering custom tattoos.

In addition to offering custom designed tattoos, Angela also offers scar coverup, Areola tattooing and permanent makeup. Her shop is a private studio that’s

very peaceful, clean and reflects her love of Native American culture. She is definitely passionate about her art.

Angela said, “I’m so thankful for all the people that followed my cancer journey, and I can’t thank them enough for all the prayers, encouragement, messages, phone calls, cards and donations that I received. I am so blessed with great friends and clients. God bless those battling now and God bless the families that have lost loved ones”.

Angela loves when she is asked to design tattoos for active military, Veterans, bikers and/or cancer patients/ survivors. She loves meeting and getting to know people that are willing to share their memories and their stories with her. She considers it an honor to be trusted with people’s custom tattoo ideas and then being asked to create them. “For many people, tattoos are like therapy.” No matter the circumstances for someone’s tattoo, she treats her clients like family and looks forward to many more years as an “Ink Therapist”.

For 20 years we have included stickers in each issue of the magazine. I personally put each and every sticker in each and every copy myself (Doobie)!!! Here lately folks have gotten bad about pulling stickers out of many copies... I guess because they like the stickers so much. It has happened in the past but not like it has the last few issues. It is unfair to others who pick up a copy of the magazine only to find that their copy does not have a sticker. So, starting with the Jan-Feb 2023 issue of Behind Barz we are not going to place stickers in each copy. We will have stickers available for FREE but you have to send a self addressed, stamped envelope to our PO Box listed on previous page. We will then send you the sticker that goes with this issue (if you write “BB FLOWER” on the envelope) plus we will throw in 3 more stickers, of our choice. We hate this has to be done but with the time it takes to place each sticker in every copy and then people are pulling the stickers out we feel that this is the best way to do it right now.

Thanks for your continued support! We still have lots of killer prizes from our sponsors on the previous page to give away.

So remember, you can’t win it if you don’t stick it!
