Hustling towards happiness Jo Berry, founder and facilitator of Run Club and Boogie the Bridge, has a passion for physical and mental wellness that is truly infectious. Motivated by the concept that movement equals change, Jo believes there is a “philosophy around what creates happiness. It is wholly connected to emotional, mental, and spiritual health, and our job is to discover the key that unlocks happiness.” While we might know the ingredients for happiness, we might not have the recipe with the exact measurements. If there is a science to happiness, The Happyness Centre offers a soul food cookbook of possibilities and opportunities; it is a space for trading recipes, sharing coping mechanisms, identifying triggers and discovering solutions together. Jo describes the environment as a “welcoming community with an extreme passion for healthy living.” “We’re all a big hot mess as humans,” Jo laughs, “I always say, ‘we don’t have a problem; we are the problem.’ It’s all part of the human experience. What’s important is that we accept that, forgive ourselves and move forward”. Ultimately, like any goal, there is work involved. “It takes time and commitment to the practice. We’ve got to hustle for our happiness; we have to make it happen for ourselves.” For Jo, running is the catalyst for her personal wellbeing. She encourages others to embrace the movement, whether it’s running, walking or whatever exercise inspires the individual. “Watching people grow and change through Run Club is amazing. I love Kamloops, and I’m thrilled to see people shift their perceptions on health and personal growth”. Ultimately, her commitment to sharing her tips for health and happiness is one of her own

keys of contentment. “We all benefit from community health; we all thrive on service above self.” With high anxiety levels ruling our lives, it is important to assess what matters most and allow that to be our focus. We might crave the quick fix for happiness, but mental health is a garden that constantly needs tending “We’re all seeking a paradigm shift to achieve contentment and inner peace. silver medal Designation awarded by Green Tourism Canada
Tourism Kamloops partnered with Green Tourism Canada recently to become a leader and mentor employing a sustainable approach to tourism operations. The process included a green audit and action plan for continuous improvement. Tourism Kamloops has achieved a Silver Medal Designation by Green Tourism Canada and the organization looks forward to implementing the report’s recommendations to improve its results in the future. “We are thrilled to welcome Tourism Kamloops as our newest Silver member. Tourism Kamloops has taken a strong leadership role in going through the Green Tourism assessment process for the Kamloops Visitor Centre, gaining valuable insight into
ways that they can improve their sustainability performance, setting an example for tourism operators and demonstrating to visitors that Kamloops cares about sustainability,” said Angela Nagy, CEO of Green Tourism Canada. The report indicates Tourism Kamloops and its staff are working towards a number of green initiatives that are expected to have a positive impact on its operations and the community at large, including: concentrated waste reduction efforts in the Visitor Centre, shifting from traditional print marketing to online and digital promotions, partnerships with local artisans to showcase hand crafted products in the Visitor Centre, launching a new multi
use trail guide promoting outdoor activity to visitors, pioneering the Bee City designation in partnership with the City of Kamloops and local Communities in Bloom, construction of a public garden at the Visitor Centre as well as support of the BC Wildlife Park and its conservation and education programming. This initial report provides a baseline for Tourism Kamloops to measure annual progress and presents a number of recommendations about how the organization can continue to demonstrate leadership in sustainability and environmental stewardship. A lady walked into a drugstore and told the pharmacist she needed some cyanide right away. The pharmacist naturally was concerned by such a request and asked, “Why in the world do you need cyanide?” The lady then explained that she needed it to poison her husband. The pharmacist’s eyes got big and he said, “I can’t give you cyanide to kill your husband! That’s against the law! I’ll lose my license. They’ll throw both of us in jail and all kinds of bad things will happen! Absolutely not! You cannot have any cyanide!” The lady reached into her purse and pulled out a picture of her husband in bed with the pharmacist’s wife. The pharmacist looked at the picture and replied, “Well, now. You didn’t tell me you had a prescription.”

Speeding? Who’s speeding? Late one night a man is driving down the road, speeding quite a bit. A cop notices how fast he is going and pulls him over. The cop says to the man, “Are you aware of how fast you were going?” The man replies, “Yes I am. I’m trying to escape a robbery I got involved in.” The cop gives him a skeptical look and says, “Were you the one being robbed?” The man casually replies, “No, I committed the robbery.” The cop looks shocked that the man admitted this. “So you’re telling me you were speeding...AND committed a robbery?” “Yes,” the man calmly says. “I have the loot in the back.” The cop begins to get angry. “Sir, I’m afraid you have to come with me.” The cop reaches in the win-
dow to subdue the man. “Don’t do that!” the man yells fearfully. “I’m scared you will find the gun in my glove compartment!” The cop pulls his hand out. “Wait here,” he says. The cop calls for backup. Soon cops, cars, and helicopters are flooding the area. The man is cuffed quickly and taken towards a car. However, before he gets in, a cop walks up to him and says, while gesturing to the cop that pulled him over, “Sir, this officer informed us that you had committed a robbery, had stolen loot in the trunk of your car, and had a loaded gun in your glove compartment. However, we found none of these things in your car.” The man replies, “Yeah, and I bet that liar said I was speeding too!”

And today’s special is John was starving!! He was stuck in a small hick town, lost and hungry. He was happy when he saw a small restaurant coming up on his right. John quickly pulled over, parked his car, and walked inside. John noticed a blackboard with a sign written in yellow chalk, “Today’s Special: Vegetable Soup with Fried Chicken and Grilled Vegetables.” “I’ll take the special”, said John to the waiter when he came to take his order. A few minutes after receiving his order John called over the
waiter, he was fuming mad. “Is this the special!? It says vegetable soup, but there are no vegetables! It says grilled vegetables, but they aren’t grilled, they are baked!? And it says fried chicken, and the chicken isn’t fried!?” The waiter was not used to city folks and their attitudes and frankly he was not going to put up with this behavior. “My dear man,” said the waiter looking down at John over his glasses, “that is what makes it so special!!!”

Grandmotherly pride “Hi! My name is Gertrude,” said the lady next to him on the plane. “It’s so nice to meet you! I’m flying to New York for my grandson’s third birthday. I’m so excited! I remember when he was just a little thumbkin and now he’s already three! It’s really hard to believe. He’s the most adorable thing you’ve ever seen! You know what? Hold on, I think I might have a picture on me. Let me take a look in my purse, yes, here it is, just look at him, isn’t he adorable. Do you see his dimple on his left cheek? Simply adorable! I could stare at his picture all day. Oh my, and you should hear him on the phone! He is just the cutest, he says to me in the cutest voice “Hi Grandma!” It just gets me all teary eyed.” After what seemed like two hours for the poor man sitting next to her, Gertrude seemed to realize that perhaps she was talking a bit too much. “You know, I feel terrible! Here I am just talking and talking without letting you get in a word edgewise! Tell me..what do you think about my Grandson!”

DEAR ARIES: (Mar. 21 - April 20) You’ve been thinking a lot about yourself and your place in the world lately. With a new look and approach to life it’s time to step out and shine your love. The world needs heroes. DEAR TAURUS: (Apr. 21 - May 21) It’s been a tough spell recently as recent pains won’t seem to heal. Your journey however is actually blessed with a beautiful new day. You just have to know where to look. DEAR GEMINI: (May 22 - June 21) Put up your dukes! You can see a fight coming and the only way to a brighter day is right though the mess. Look to the past for help moving forward. DEAR CANCER: (June 22 - July 22) A beautiful new light shining at a distance helped navigate your dreams to a beautiful new day. It’s now time to get back to work. You’re highly visible and the fans are calling for more. DEAR LEO: (July 23 - Aug 22) That vacation you’ve been longing for might be closer than you think but the chores have to be finished first. You’re also highly visible but not everyone is happy about it. Shine brightly but watch for stray toes looking to be squished. DEAR VIRGO: (Aug. 23 - Sept. 23) As the departing spotlight returns your relationships to the quiet illusions of hopes and dreams you’re free to focus on making yourself truly happy. Let the playful energy of the week guide your footsteps into the future you’ve been waiting for. DEAR LIBRA (Sept. 24 - Oct. 23) It’s time to enter the warm and radiant spotlight of love. Dress your best and have your list ready. Love is looking for an adventure and Libra is playmate number one. DEAR SCORPIO: (Oct. 24 - Nov. 22) Long-standing money problems are about to clear but it’s not time to break the bank open. Work is calling with one final push. Do this and you’ll reach your dream. DEAR SAGITTARIUS: (Nov. 23 -Dec. 21) It’s time to start locking down your financial picture. Bills are coming and the well is beginning to dry. Tighten your belt. A storm is coming. DEAR CAPRICORN: (Dec. 22 - Jan. 20) Kids kick up a fuss yet again but this week it’s time to take care of you. Get to the spa and take a “me” day. You deserve to pamper yourself. DEAR AQUARIUS: (Jan. 21 - Feb. 19) The energy is shifting and you’re usually quick to lead the charge. This week however, events catch you off guard and it’s time to take a break. The past says hello. DEAR PISCES: (Feb. 20 - Mar. 20) Your social network has undergone a major change and you’re not entirely sure which friends you can trust. That doesn’t mean you can’t get out and have fun. Finances are better than expected. Astro-week Sonnyscopes courtesy of Collin Sonny Rosati, Vancouver Astrologer, Hypnotist.
