The big red foot is back on the block The Arts Council of Kamloops is once again spreading their special blend of art and soul right here in Downtown Kamloops during the thirteenth annual Artwalk event. “This year Artwalk kicks off on April 23, but our big opening night event is Body Beautiful: Art Redefined. This is a unique exhibition which, over the course of just one evening, showcases the tattoos and body art of live models,” tells Kathy Sinclair, the new manager of the Kamloops Arts Council. “Models are staged in the gallery, with a free hanging body-sized frame in front of them, presenting a live exhibition.” The premise of Body Beautiful is to promote and acknowledge the body as art, in and of itself; the body is the canvas with ink as the medium. Together the Kamloops Arts Council and Instinct Adornment conceived the idea for this show and it immediately won a BC Arts Council Award. Everyone is welcome to the opening held next Thursday evening from 6:30 to 8:30pm at Instinct Adornment, 319 Victoria Street. Artwalk is a great event that partners local artists with Downtown retailers. Everyone and anyone is invited to pick up a map at a participating retailer and walk throughout the centre of the city to take in the art and perhaps shop a little in the wonderful boutiques and retail stores that call the Downtown home. Artwalk begins at The Old Courthouse Cultural Centre and winds it all the way down to Seventh Avenue.
