Hear ye! Hear ye! Medieval game knight! Recently I received an email from the local chapter of the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) called the Shire of Ramsgaard. Their Chatelaine, Raynagh O’Fearghail wanted our scribes to pen an invitation announcing the society and generate new interest in the hopes of attracting new members to join. The SCA is a movement that began almost fifty

years ago when a group of university students started a medieval studies club and began developing characters, storylines and background authentic to pre-17th century life. To date the SCA has become an international organization with shires growing in every region and country. As the Mage of Echoes, I spent an evening with the Shire of

Ramsgaard and guests, practicing medieval fighting and discussing every aspect of medieval life in general. I quickly came to the realization that I had come home to a like-minded clan who revered the virtues of honour and chivalry. Every age and ability could be found within the ranks of the shire. In true community spirit, each participant brought their own unique character and magic to the gathering and slipped effortlessly into the mannerisms upheld by the code of chivalry that L-R: Michelle McCready, Kalysta Szauer, Kyla Rae Marshall and Juli Harland model some of the pre-17th century fashions. For authenticity sake, most of the garments are stitched, embroidered and accessorized by hand. Even the buttons are hand crafted and these fair maidens know how to bring medieval designs to life.
