The moment Dame Wash-a-lot appears front and centre on stage you know its going to be a good show! The buxom lady, full of flavour and ready to clean is the host of every Laughing Stock Theatre production and she does not disappoint. She brings you, the audience, into her land of fun, frolic and laughs and schools you on all the rules of panto. Don’t worry, there is no need to bring a pen, the rules are simple and involve a lot of yelling, pointing and just plain old having fun. This year’s Laughing Stock Theatre panto is Snow White created by the lovely and talented Vance Schneider. “This is my fourth year bringing panto to the Kamloops stage,” explains Vance who also may or may not be Dame Wash-alot. There is lots of speculation but no one has ever been able to fully conclude it’s him. (Editors note: Dame Wash-a-lot and Vance have never been seen in the same room together.) Don’t go in expecting your traditional Snow White and the Seven Dwarves because you will find this and a whole lot more! If history proves itself to be correct, expect men dressed like women, lots of silly, not too smart villains and of course for the hero to come out the winner at the end. It is a panto of course and it’s meant to be fun! “In the UK a Pantomime, or ‘Panto’ as it is usually affectionately called, is a form of interactive the-

atre, performed around the Christmas season for the entertainment of millions of families,” explains Vance. “Many of the stories are based on popular, even if slightly skewed, Fairy Tales. Children love to see their favourite stories and characters played out on the stage, they particularly enjoy the physical comedy and the over the top characters. Everyone is encouraged to “dress-up” as their favourite character, and if there is one thing kids love, it’s dressing up in costume!

The adults certainly get enough innuendo and double entendre of the ‘nudge-nudge, wink-wink’ variety to keep them rolling in the aisles. children and it is a great way to introduce them to theatre at a young age. Theatre is a heart warming and extremely beneficial way to introduce the arts and culture into your young peoples lives. With a panto you may avoid the embarrassment when your young lady yawns feverishly in the middle of a theatre production and exclaims loudly, “Mom, this real movie is booorrrring!” It’s a true story and it has happened to me! Looking for Leadership Award recipients It’s time to submit nominations for the annual Downtown Kamloops Leadership Award that is awarded at the Kamloops Central Business Improvement Association’s (KCBIA) Annual General Meeting. The very first Downtown Leadership Award was presented to Gina Caputo, which was accepted by sister Anna Harrison of Genesis Fashion and Beauty and the Caputo Family. Gina along with her partners opened Genesis in June of 1987, Genesis has been it the same location all these years, and as a hairstylist Gina touched many lives over

the years; many of her clients had been coming to her from the very beginning and became her extended family. The KCBIA want to know whom you think is deserving of an award like this. Your chosen person or organization should have contributed to the business landscape and the environment in Downtown Kamloops and to be active in the community. To submit a nomination, visit: www. kcbia.com/nominations-for-the-down town-leadership-award/. Deadline for nominations is January 12, 2015.

Stay safe on the roads this holiday Kamloops RCMP is out with a full complement of officers to take impaired drivers off the road during the holiday season. This is a reminder to the public that the roadblocks will continue throughout the holiday season and that there are plenty of alternatives to get home safely, including cabs and Operation Red Nose.

Loud delivery Santa and his reindeer need to be really quiet when they deliver presents so no one will know they are there. One Christmas Eve when they landed on a roof top, there was a loud, “Snort, snort, sniff, honk, honk, sniff.” “Shhh,” said Santa and he proceeded to get out of the sleigh. Once again, louder this time, there was a “Snort, snort, sniff, honk, honk, sniff.” Dogs began to bark in the neighborhood. “Shhh!” Santa said again, “Stop doing that.” He started to lift his sack of toys out of the sleigh when he heard it again, even louder. “SNORT, SNORT, SNIFF, HONK, HONK, SNIFF.” Lights came on all over the neighborhood. Some people opened their windows and stuck out their heads trying to see where the noise came from. Horrified, Santa jumped back in the sled and flew off to the North Pole. When he got there, he lined up all the reindeer and said, “Ok, we are not going to deliver any more presents until the reindeer who is trying to be funny by making those noises confesses and apologizes.” He waited. No reindeer came forward. “I know who it is,” said Santa. He held up a piece of paper. “I’ve written your name here and I will read it. But I want to give you a chance to do the right thing.” Still no reindeer came forward. So Santa did the only thing he could. He read off the rude-nosed reindeer.

Dear Sagittarius: (Nov. 23 -Dec. 21) As everyone wants to play, you’ll want to just stay home and focus on what makes you happy. Recent events have left you in a whirl and it’s time to take some time for yourself. If you’re looking for love it’s waiting somewhere you already know. Dear Capricorn: (Dec. 22 - Jan. 20) Even if you’re usually shy and reserved, you’re looking beautiful, approachable, and like someone people should know. Expect a stranger to say hello. Extra work paves the way towards a healthy wallet. Dear Aquarius: (Jan. 21 - Feb. 19) Even though you feel a boost of moving forward energy and you’d just like to get a move on, the past is going to come calling. It’s good news but it’ll make you rethink your decisions. Begin changes in the way you communicate. Dear Pisces: (Feb. 20 - Mar. 20) The busy days continue with a full social schedule added to the usual office mix. You’ve been shining lately and you’d like to get out and have some fun but be careful, hidden enemies are lurking. A surprise is waiting in your checkbook. Dear Aries: (Mar. 21 - April 20) The holiday season comes calling as the pace heats up and you’re thrust into the spotlight. You’ll want to attend as many parties as you can. Luck is still following you so don’t be shy. Dear Taurus: (Apr. 21 - May 21) Love is on the mind and a rendezvous waits. Finish up chores and get to the gym. You’re going to want all of your energy for the weekend. A fresh attitude towards love settles in. Dear Gemini: (May 22 - June 21) You’re still hot from the weekend and as Monday rolls around you want to continue to play! Go ahead and have some fun but mid-week you’ll want to ease up and check the pocketbook. Love gets difficult shortly. Take your chances now. Dear Cancer: (June 22 - July 22) You may appear business as usual but love is in the air for Cancer. You can’t deny the admiring glances as you walk down the street. Say hello to a stranger at the coffee shop. Dear Leo: (July 23 - Aug 22) Details and lists fill the week. I know, not very fun but you’ll add your personal Leo charm and melt hearts during your daily routine. This also means the gym. Dear Virgo: (Aug. 23 - Sept. 23) A creative project takes off and it puts you in the mood to promote your efforts. You’re lucky in both love and money so take a chance and expect the best. Help arrives from the past. Dear Libra (Sept. 24 - Oct. 23) The Moon gives some much-needed emotional stability and a general feel good boost to the ego. And just in time as a creative project heats up. Love brings a practical nature to the home but a real tree would be nice too. Dear Scorpio: (Oct. 24 - Nov. 22) Shake off the blahs and get to work. You might not be into it at the moment but you’ve got deadlines and gifts to wrap. Love has changed but once again you’ll be ok. Your daily routine takes a hit.
