A year of community and caring At the end of each year we like to reflect on the year past and look ahead to the year to come. Although its only dates on a calendar, there is something refreshing about being able to say goodbye to the months gone by and hello to a whole new prospect of months ahead. The most wonderful thing about being a community newspaper is you guessed it – community! We are fortunate to have a great base of people to work with everyday. It stretches far beyond the confines of our office walls, right down into the streets below us and the wonderful shops, homes and lives of you in our neighbourhood. The common theme that runs through most all of our stories are giving. We here in Kamloops are some of the kindest, most giving folks around. This trait shows itself in our stories, which we take right from the streets of Kamloops. Looking back into the first few months of the year – this theme is apparent. Here in the downtown core, a great Samaritan threw a benefit dinner for Cpl. Michaud to help cover some of his medical expenses after being wounded on a routine traffic stop, Dalton from Country Garden Greenhouse explained to us the importance of shopping local, and a few local musicians got together to throw a musical benefit concert on Valentines Day for the Y Women’s Shelter. walk, Downtown restaurants donated to the and just being good ambassadors for the city. What a wonderful year it’s been! - continued from page 2 the same beach we were swimming at was shown from an aerial view and there were hundreds of sharks! Yikes! Another highlight to the year was a trip to Vancouver to see Jon Bon Jovi. He is my most favourite musician and quite possibly human being ever; ask anyone who knows me. It was an emotional roller coaster, as they had to cancel the event due to issues with the event organizer. I was going with my co-worker Erin, who had never seen him perform; I have seen him a few times, but I was still devastated. At the last minute everything was a go, and there was lots of clap-
ping and jumping with that news. I knew Jon would not let down his fans; he is just not that type of guy. So Erin and I headed to Rogers Arena where they had everything worked out like a well-oiled machine. In the end we had fantastic seats because we snuck into the VIP section like teenagers, we were so close I could see Jon’s pearly whites! It was different than a traditional Bon Jovi concert as he played with the Kings of Suburbia and they did not disappoint. I am hopeful for a 2016 concert. A year of gratitude It’s hard to believe another year has come and gone. It seems with everyone being so busy dayto-day we don’t realize just how quickly the weeks and months slide by. It’s ironic that all the technical gadgets we have to make our lives more efficient seem to make us all busier than ever. 2015 marked the first full year at the helm of Edge Publishing for me. I must say that in my career in the publishing world that began in the ‘80’s (yes, I’m that old!) 2015 has definitely been one of the most satisfying. We at the Echo have a tremendous staff that brings their best efforts to the office each and every day. Of course that includes lost of fun and laughter along the way. A year of adventure and experiences! It doesn’t matter how hard I try, I just can’t seem to get out of this place… well all kidding aside, it is a true statement. I can’t believe how many years in fact I have been telling and sharing the good news stories of my favourite neighbourhood. I have always had a propensity for writing and spent many years drafting web content in my early years but never fancied myself as a writer. Writing for the little newspaper that everyone loves was actually just a fluke. I happened to be in town visiting my mom, and the lovely
ladies who ran the joint at that time Experiences, stealing the name from just happened to be my family. That was times, interesting adventures and ten years ago and the start of a very silly shenanigans, ultimately trying to do one thing neither of us had interesting relationship. Fast forward a decade, I stepped done before or at least not for a long in for a few months at the end of time, once a month. last year and after another hiatus, I What have I learnt from all of this am back doing I guess what I love – I like snowboarding and shoeing, vacationing, eating – especially my to do… talk! 2015 was a super duper fantas- beloved filet mignon and charcuterie, tic year. A year of adventure and traveling, being on the water, whale experiences. Along with Carrie, we watching, sitting on patios, friends, embarked on a year long Festival of family and fun. I do not like being
stung by bees, being overtired, driving long distances in cars or being trapped on airplanes. I certainly do not like seeing the American exchange rate aftermath on the credit card statement and breaking my leg has kind of been a drag. All in all though it has been a super fabulous year and I would do it all again. Next year I am sure is going to be even better with an added side of fiscal responsibility. Cheers to many more good years ahead and to all the friends and family that we love. Happy New Year! Tanya Orozco

Dear Sagittarius: (Nov. 23 -Dec. 21) There’s no rule that says you have to go out and party even if it’s the holidays. 2015 was a busy year and you’ve come farther than you realize. Take a break and enjoy some time away from the world. Dear Capricorn: (Dec. 22 - Jan. 20) You’re working extra hard to finish projects before you step out for fun but a snag in the paperwork will keep you at the office. When you finally do meet up with friends you’ll find open and receptive arms. Everyone already knows you like to work late anyways. Dear Aquarius: (Jan. 21 - Feb. 19) Someone at a distance who once had your heart now has your wrath. It’s not like they did anything on purpose but you don’t have the time for casual nonsense either. A career goal is within reach. Dear Pisces: (Feb. 20 - Mar. 20) The social circle has you in the spotlight helping out at the office. It might feel like an obligation forced upon you at the worst time but it’s actually a surprise blessing to show the team another side of your brilliance. Love is encouraging an exotic adventure. Dear Aries: (Mar. 21 - April 20) Love has you hooked into the mysterious and unusual. With a bit of investigation and a little Aries aggression they can be yours. Be creative and don’t let the opportunity pass. You can be game changers for each other. Dear Taurus: (Apr. 21 - May 21) The Moon will have your heart watching your pocket book and wondering how you can afford that next gift but love continues to look your way, asking when you’re going to say hello. 2015 was a great year for learning some difficult lessons in love but class is over and it’s time to play. Smile from your heart and say hello. Dear Gemini: (May 22 - June 21) You’re super frisky but love is going through a major transformation. Those who couldn’t keep up are being left in 2015 but those who can, will be by your side for a long time. In the meantime, keep focusing on your health and finish up all your chores before the weekend. Dear Cancer: (June 22 - July 22) Home and family might be causing bumps in your everyday routine but it’s definitely your time for love. There’s more waiting behind a special hello and you won’t have to chase or bend to turn a spark into an adventure. Watch for accidents while driving. Dear Leo: (July 23 - Aug 22) With a little creative intuition you can be making money from home but the moon has you wanting to get out and play. It’s the season for fun and socializing and although you’re super busy, get out and say hello. Family offers a pleasant surprise. Dear Virgo: (Aug. 23 - Sept. 23) Luck and expansion continues to bless your journey. The bigger your goal, the more chance it has to succeed. Money is a fight but a quick smile and well-timed apology saves the day. Dear Libra (Sept. 24 - Oct. 23) You’re loving on all cylinders and new challenges look more like fun bumps than painful obstacles. So what’s holding you back from the dreams you know you deserve? A secret reveals itself publicly. Dear Scorpio: (Oct. 24 - Nov. 22) Love is looking directly at you so shake off the stress from 2015 and say hello. There’s still drama coming at you from behind the scenes but it’s about to end and then you’ll have an opportunity to rebound brilliantly in 2016. Rewards arrive at their own pace so it’s up to you to accept them when they do. Not when you think you’re ready.
