Chamber music to fill Old Courthouse There is something about live music that makes your senses come alive. The sweet melodic sounds of finely tuned and expertly played instruments coming together is best appreciated in person no matter what genre of music you are enjoying. No one knows this better than the Chamber Musicians of Kamloops and their mission is to inspire an appreciation of the beauty of chamber music. For those who are unfamiliar, chamber music is a form of classical music written for a small group of instruments. Because of its small and intimate nature, chamber music has been described as ‘the music of friends’. “Chamber Musicians of Kamloops was formed in May 2009, explains Robin Suddaby, Chair of the Society. “Guided by the adage ‘there are enough human minds for music but not enough music for human minds’, it was felt that a house venue chamber music group in Kamloops was an idea whose time had come. The group and the City of Kamloops would like to invite all residents of Kamloops to come and celebrate the beginning of the holiday season with the first Christmas Chamber Music Recital at the Old Courthouse Cultural Centre. Together they will be present-

ing a series of recitals to celebrate 2012, kicking it off with this free Christmas concert. Admission is by donation, with all proceeds from the recital go toward Boogie the Boogie the Bridge Cultural Fund, making arts and culture accessible for children and youth of Kamloops. “The Chamber Musicians of Kamloops Society presents a delightful selection of seasonal and festive instrumental and choral

music, says Cara Graden, coordinator of Arts, Culture and Heritage at the City. “Three local groups consist of Vivace Chorale, Trio Con Brio (brass ensemble) and Kamloops String Quartet “The Society is very excited to be performing in this wonderful heritage venue. We invite you to bring in the Christmas season and discover chamber music at the Old Courthouse, finishes Robin.

Spend an evening discovering or rediscovering your love and appreciation of chamber music. Everything kicks off at the arts and culture hub centre – The Old Courthouse Cultural Centre at 7 Seymour Street West on Thursday, December 1 at 7pm.
