Kamloops Pride wants you groovin’ with Queer as Funk You don’t need to head to the big city next week to partake in the delight that is Vancouver’s Queer as Funk. On Friday, August 5, Kamloops Pride, the group formally known as GALA (Gay and Lesbian Association) is bringing the uber popular band up to Kamloops to entertain the masses. “Formally known as the Gay and Lesbian Association (GALA), we are a non-profit organization supporting people who identify on the gender and sexuality spectra,” explains Laura Hau, Kamloops Pride president. “This includes gay, lesbian, bisexual, trans, queer and many other individuals living in the Kamloops region. Regardless of how you identify on the gender and sexuality spectrum, we welcome you! We are here to serve the diverse community within Kamloops and its surrounding areas and strive to be an advocate on behalf of people who experience discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity or expression. Through this site we hope to promote a better understanding for all people through education, acceptance and the promotion of equality for all walks of life.” Kamloops Pride has been active in the Kamloops community for a number of years now. Not only do they actively host several dances throughout the year but they are big supporters of Safe Spaces, which is a service for youth up to 25 years of age who identify as

Public parkade opens at RIH
Parking solution
Effective Monday, July 25, traffic patterns at Royal Inland Hospital (RIH) will be changing permanently as the public parkade opens at the new Clinical Services Building. Patients and visitors are asked to be alert to new signage at the site directing traffic to the new designated public or staff and physician parking locations. The new parkade adds 350 parking stalls to the Royal Inland campus. To ensure easy access for RIH patients and visitors, the Clinical Services Parkade will be dedicated for public use, in addition to the: Emergency Department Lot, Hillside Centre visitor parking, designated over-height stalls east of Hillside Centre and short-term stalls by the main 2nd floor entrance. The remaining parking on the property will be allocated to employees, physicians and volunteers.
After much anticipation, the new parkade at Royal Inland Hospital (RIH) opened this past Monday morning. For anyone who has ever experienced frustration with parking at RIH, this new parkade will bring much relief. Welcoming the public to the new parkade are hospital employees (L-R) Kris Kristjanson and Tracy Watson. The rear parking will now be for hospital staff only.

The Lucas 2 is a compact, easily transportable, lightweight, safe and efficient tool that standardizes chest compressions in accordance with the latest scientific guidelines. Much of the TNRD is bear country, so it is important to keep garbage bins in a secure location until 5:00 am on days of collection to ensure the safety of both wildlife and the community. Bears easily become habituated to garbage and become a danger to the community and themselves if they start to seek out garbage as a food source. Please keep your bins secure and free from smells as much as possible. Contact Mandy Ross at tnrd@wildsafebc.com for more information or for tips on managing wildlife attractants around your home. Just Another Stage One Play is not just another WCT Stage One play Western Canada Theatre’s (WCT) Stage One Theatre School is presenting Just Another Stage One Play, performed by this summer’s Performance Class. A group of Stage One actors, who apparently have been abandoned by their director, have to fend for themselves opening night in front of an impatient audience. Their director has left them hanging because no one has been showing up to rehearsals. And because no one has been showing up to rehearsals, no one is really quite sure what they are supposed to do. Stage One’s funniest show to date; Just Another Stage One Play is not just another WCT Stage One play. While nearly every angle of a typical Stage One play is there, WCT also take the audience through a history of theatre, with improvisation and local references thrown into the mix! Ryan Seacrest and the seven-dollar sandwich There are few things more unpleasant than being struck down with hunger; what’s worse is what happens to your mood when hunger happens. That’s a common joke that gets tossed around my workplace. “I’m sorry for what I said when I was hungry”. For that matter, in my marriage too, “Alicia…are you hungry?” I’m not hungry, I’m just irrational. That’s the low blood sugar talking. Meal planning is essential, but let’s be honest, we’ve all nipped off to the grocery store, a class, the bank or some long boring meeting and heard that low, Satanic tummy rumblings from deep within. Without so much as a breath mint to satiate or distract, time has its way with the hunger. Patience gets wafer thin and temper like a frayed rope being sawed by a jagged edge. Hunger turns into ‘hanger’, when you could easily snap and stab someone if they tried to take that last donut in the lunchroom. Once, at a mall running errands, I was struck suddenly by this kind of hunger. I zip past the nearest coffee shop and make a snap decision. “I’ll have the ham and cheese… cwa-sohn”? I sort of blend the request as a mumbled question with a faint phony French accent. The cashier pulls the sandwich out of the cabinet. “That will be seven-dollars”.

information doesn’t bring me any answers or satisfy my hunger, but it’s comforting to know that even ole Seacrest knows a thing or two about his own limitations. I mean, what differentiates us is that I can’t justify a seven-dollar sandwich, while he could buy the whole cafe out and burn it to the ground if anyone dared judge his pronunciation of French pastries. That’s where the road divides us. But there was this glorious, shining, magnificent moment where Ryan Seacrest and I were on the same page. But I don’t think it means as much to him as it does to me.

The eye-catching mural
take that!
In the prime of her career, a world famous painter started losing her eyesight. Fearful that she might lose her life as a painter, she went to see the best eye surgeon in the world. After several weeks of delicate surgery and therapy, her eyesight was restored. The painter was so grateful that she decided to show her gratitude by repainting the doctor’s office. Part of her work included painting a gigantic eye on one
wall. When she had finished her work, she held a press conference to unveil her latest work of art: the doctor’s office. During the press conference, one reporter noticed the eye on the wall and asked the doctor, “What was your first reaction upon seeing your newly painted office, especially that large eye on the wall?” To this, the eye doctor responded, “I said to myself ‘Thank goodness I’m not a proctologist.’”
Hanging from the ceiling I came in to work early the other day and began hanging upside down from the ceiling. Just then one of my co-workers (she’s blonde ... it’ll be important later) came in and asked me what I’m doing. “Shh,” I said, “ I’m a light bulb - I’m acting crazy to get a few days off, as there is an out of town wedding I need to go to until Tuesday.”
A minute later the boss walked by and asked me what I was doing. “I’m a light bulb!” I exclaimed. “You’re going crazy,” he said. “Take a few days off and come back when you are less stressed.” With that, I jumped down and started walking out. My co-worker started following me and the boss asked where she was going. “I can’t work in the dark,” she said.

echo stargazer Dear Leo: (July 23 - Aug 22) With both ego energies and your bank balance on the rise, it’s time to focus on love and playful adventures. Love has been a struggle recently but it’s time to shake off all of the worries and jump back into the game. Dear Virgo: (Aug. 23 - Sept. 23) A secret love rendezvous has your attention but the logistics might be difficult to bridge. The happiness is not necessarily an illusion but there are questions you still have to ask. Dear Libra (Sept. 24 - Oct. 23) It’s been difficult getting your point across lately as mixed messages cross with technical difficulties, but keep pressing. A group outing is calling and you’ll need your communication skills on point when a new face smiles hello. Dear Scorpio: (Oct. 24 - Nov. 22) Dress your best and put on a welcoming smile as you step into the career spotlight. You’re not only high viz professionally but you’re attracting people who want to give your career a boost. Give your destiny a chance to find you. Dear Sagittarius: (Nov. 23 -Dec. 21) Love says hello from distant shores but you might be too low on both emotional and physical energy to smile back. Take a rain check and look after yourself. You deserve a break. Dear Capricorn: (Dec. 22 - Jan. 20) Problems from the beginning of the year return with the same old obstacles. This time you’re prepared with new answers and a fresh approach. Clean up unnecessary dramas so the team has a stronger chance for success. Dear Aquarius: (Jan. 21 - Feb. 19) With a red-hot summertime affair in full swing, it’s a wonder how you find time for anything else but love. Work however has been a major thorn for 2016 with unnecessary stress and false promises. Friends encourage you to find balance. Dear Pisces: (Feb. 20 - Mar. 20) You’re entering a cycle where you’ll be aggressively high profile in your working sphere. Yes, some people will be bumped the wrong way but its all part of the growth process as you prepare to spread your wings. Dear Aries: (Mar. 21 - April 20) Bank balances call for a second look before rushing out for summer fun. Everything should be OK but double-check that the bills have been paid anyways. Love is favouring playful and creative gestures. Dear Taurus: (Apr. 21 - May 21) A healthy dose of ego energy has you taking chances in love. With relationship dramas finally under control it’s time to rethink your living arrangements. Love asks if you’re ready for a new roommate. Dear Gemini: (May 22 - June 21) You’re ready to reappear on the scene with your quick wit and social charm but emotional energy just can’t keep up. Plan for unexpected adventures but leave room to recharge. Love has you talking again. Dear Cancer: (June 22 - July 22) You’d love to get out with your friends and enjoy the summer fun but making money is front and centre. Extra hours will be required at the office. Keep focused to avoid spinning your wheels. Astro-week Sonnyscopes courtesy of Collin Sonny Rosati, Vancouver Astrologer, Hypnotist. For personal readings visit thesunnyside.net. I telephoned the veterinarian’s office to ask when I should take my threemonth-old kitten in to be vaccinated for rabies. After a few initial questions, the woman who answered the telephone asked, “What is the kitten’s name?” “Demon,” I replied. “Demon? That’s an odd name,” she said.
I like cats
“Maybe, but it’s appropriate anyway.” I heard clicking of a computer keyboard, then she said, “Our records show that you have cats named Gato (which is Spanish for ‘male cat’), Scamp, Stinky and now you named one Demon. Is that right?” “Yes, it is.” “You really don’t like cats, do you?”
