Santa’s coming downtown! He’s making a list, he’s checking it twice and he’s going to find out who’s naughty and nice because Santa Claus is coming to town! Good old jolly Saint Nick is coming into Kamloops this Saturday, November 28 to end off our annual Kamloops Santa Claus Parade here in the downtown core. Santa and his team of elves would like to invite everyone in Kamloops and area to come downtown and take part in the holiday festivities. Him and 75 of his community friends are busy building their floats, perfecting their performances and getting ready to come out and entertain the masses. “Ho, ho, ho, I love coming to Kamloops every year,” chuckles Santa. “We hear that our favourite community groups and businesses are going all out this year. We can’t wait to be part of such a huge party!” Santa is not wrong, some of our community members are really outdoing themselves with the construction this year. The Kamloops Heritage Railway is building a full miniature train complete with a working smoke stack and The United Steel Workers are bringing back their Mater, towing a fully-built from scratch mini haul truck complete with working lights and smoke. Look for them–they also have almost a whole mini haul truck pile of candy to give away as well.

Pop Up Poppins practically perfect in every way Western Canada Theatre and Kamloops Princess Parties’ Pop Up Poppins promotion with B100 was an enormous success. Ticket sales have experienced a significant boost following the radio contest and social media campaign. Princess Parties’ Maddison Hartloff made an appearance as Mary Poppins every day between November 16 and 20. If you spotted her, called the radio station and announced what she was doing, the caller immediately won two free tickets. Mary Poppins tried on footwear at Kennels Shoes on Victoria Street (okay, maybe she dusted a little) and bagged groceries at Coopers Foods. On Thursday, Mary enjoyed a signature cocktail at Mittz Kitchen, sat in the window seat and waved at passersby as they walked by. Miss Poppins finished the promotion with tea and biscuits in the window display of Castles and Cottages, the chic little shop where a oncestop-Christmas-shop is truly possible. After a quick stop at the International Children’s Day Celebration at Northhills Mall, Mary finished a whirlwind week at the Kamloops Blazers

Santa’s little helpers were on hand to help load the Kamloops Food Bank truck during B-100 Kamloops Basics for Babies on Friday, November 20 at Hotel 540. This year’s event was the most successful year for the Kamloops Food Bank as they raised $50,000 from sponsors and attendees as well as donations of baby product totalling 1750 pounds! Laughing Stock director’s message The Laughing Stock Theatre Society is pleased to announce our December 2015 production at the Sagebrush Theatre from December 24 to 31 of Beauty and the Beast – The Panto! Tickets are on sale now and available through Kamloops Live! Box Office at 250-3745483 or online at www.kamloopslive.ca. Tickets will also be available at the door. It’s our fifth season of bringing this unique form of Theatre to Kamloops and I couldn’t be more excited to present our twisted take on the traditional fairy tale Beauty and the Beast by French novelist Jeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumont first published in 1756. Come dressed up as your favourite princess or hero and say hello to your favourite characters after the show! Beauty and The Beast – The Panto! sports a large cast of local volunteer community actors and actresses, with some 40 cast and chorus members giving it their all! There will be lots to do in the lobby, including face painting by donation, colouring tables and a couple of new surprises. Children love to see their favourite stories and characters played out on the stage, they particularly enjoy the physical comedy and audience participation. There is also lots of innuendo of the “nudge, nudge, wink, wink” variety to keep the adults rolling in the aisles as well. Everyone is encouraged
to dress-up as one of your favourite characters and if there is one thing kids love to do, it’s dressing up in costume. One thing Panto is not is silent. Panto performances have actually nothing to do with the art of mime but rather are boisterous and tell the story in a light-hearted, if slightly twisted way. The audience is actively encouraged to cheer and clap for the hero and to boo or hiss at the villain whenever he or she enters. Heckling is also allowed and can lead to some hilarious ad-libs from the cast. The Laughing Stock Theatre Society of BC is a non-profit drama association based in Kamloops that seeks to provide the community with various forms of cultural, innovative, and imaginative expression through

With the help of Canadians across the country, KidSport’s annual campaign, running until January 8, 2016, aims to get more kids off the sidelines, into the game and experience the gift of sport. There is new demand each year, however and KidSport can make a bigger impact with your help by donating to the Give the Gift of Sport campaign. Join the festivities at the Old Courthouse As soon as the Santa Parade finishes, the spirit of the holidays envelops the city. The magical Old Courthouse Cultural Centre is no exception. Nestled up atop the hill at 1st Avenue and Seymour Street, the gorgeously decorated heritage Kamloops Courthouse is now filled with many of the organizations and associations in our community that help to enrich our lives with art. One of those organizations is the Kamloops Courthouse Gallery a community of local, like-minded artists who, by their shared vision and determination, have formed an Artists Cooperative and a Non-Profit Society to share gallery and retail space. “We started in 2007,” explains Pat Hall, a member of the collective. “It began with four people and now today has 14 artists.” In addition to coming together and having their gallery store open five days per week to the public, the cooperative throws a giant Christmas at the Courthouse. This annual event is one of the most fantastic holiday sales of the year. It falls directly in line with the mandate of the organization, which is to showcase and make accessible local arts and artists to the community. This year the annual sale is using all three floors of the Old Courthouse, showcasing and selling a variety of arts, crafts and décor pieces. “It’s a Dickens themed Christmas this year,” continues Pat. “We will all be dressed up in oldfashioned costumes. The Courthouse has just finished being beautifully decorated. The City gardeners do an outstanding job. We want you, your friends and your family to come see what

DEAR SAGITTARIUS: (Nov. 23 -Dec. 21) You’re entering the spotlight this week and it fills you with cheer and reason to rejoice. If you kept to your path then you’ll begin seeing the results. You might even be up for an award or public recognition in some way. Be graceful and think of others with your acceptance speech. DEAR CAPRICORN: (Dec. 22 - Jan. 20) A quiet and reclusive mood finds you thinking of the past and finishing up old projects. Work continues to pleasantly expand and grow faster than you thought. At the same time, friends and social groups come calling. It’s a lot and you’re not exactly in the mood to play. Smile at adversity. DEAR AQUARIUS: (Jan. 21 - Feb. 19) Friends are calling and the distractions are fun but your eyes are still on getting away. Personal freedom is number one on your mind and you won’t settle for any forms of restrictions. Career takes a back seat to emotional growth. DEAR PISCES: (Feb. 20 - Mar. 20) Discipline and long hours have won you favours at the office. Keep going. An inheritance or money from a legal source is on the way. Luck is expanding your relationships and bringing unexpected rewards. Buy a lottery ticket with your partner. DEAR ARIES: (Mar. 21 - April 20) The Christmas spirit arrives and you’re ready to join in with the fun. Love and partnerships are highlighted so grab your dearest and get out. A larger picture of life has comes into focus and you realize you deserve more. DEAR TAURUS: (Apr. 21 - May 21) You’re busy and the pace isn’t going to let up. Children continue bring rewards so keep encouraging creativity and compassion. Love has taken a temporary back seat to responsibilities but it’s still there for those who are looking. Get to the gym and say hello to that smiling face. DEAR GEMINI: (May 22 - June 21) Something you would have preferred to remain hidden comes to light as the change you’ve been going through becomes public. Shake off recent setbacks and get back into the game. The social scene leads to unusual invitations but you never know where that will lead afterwards. DEAR CANCER: (June 22 - July 22) You’re in a cycle where home, family, habits and your physical health will be the focus. It doesn’t sound like fun but there’s someone on your radar that actually likes these things. Put it together and invite them over to spend some time in your natural element. DEAR LEO: (July 23 - Aug 22) Your playful and loving barometer is beginning to peak but restrictions are putting a damper on the fun. This includes children and your general frisky nature. It’s not that you won’t be allowed to play but you’ll have to close the blinds and keep the noise down for a while. DEAR VIRGO: (Aug. 23 - Sept. 23) Expansive thoughts and the horizon are guiding your mood. With conflicts now resolved, you’re left looking to the future for a new project. Search far away and exotic shores for inspiration and think big. Love is waiting at the bank. DEAR LIBRA (Sept. 24 - Oct. 23) You’ve entered a new cycle where you come first so smile big and simply shine. A new face has entered your heart and they seem to have everything you’ve been looking for. Don’t let them get away but don’t lose yourself in the chase either. DEAR SCORPIO: (Oct. 24 - Nov. 22) Love has burned you so hard that you’re going to indulge in a reclusive funk for the rest of the year. Love remains elusive but money is strong. You might as well bury yourself in some work and click off those career goals. Astro-week Sonnyscopes courtesy of Collin Sonny Rosati, Vancouver Astrologer, Hypnotist.
