Fast Eddy’s fundraiser There are good people out there, we see them everyday. Random acts of kindness fill our city. A mysterious stranger buys your coffee, someone picks up your lost dog, we return wallets and help stranded drivers get their car to the side of the road. We all try to be nice, helping out whenever we can. There’s kindness and then there is giving fully of one’s self. One Kamloops resident is on a mission to do just this, give of himself – fully. This man’s name is Edward Dostaler, or as he has become to be known, Fast Eddy. A caring man, he has committed to running across the country and back in support of two charities close to his heart, Breast Cancer and Alzheimer’s. The run which is scheduled to start in March 2015 from Victoria, BC will bring him through rugged backcountry, long plains, up and down mountain ranges and take him from sea to shining sea. More impressive than the run itself is planning stops in each of our ten provinces to participate in a 24-hour charity running event. These will not only raise much needed funds for medical research but will help him to spread awareness and concern for these debilitating diseases. Here at home he has many supporters who are helping him plan, prepare for and start his journey. One such friend, Dannielle Port is in the midst of put-

ting together a fundraising dinner for Fast Eddy on Sunday, November 30 here in Downtown Kamloops and wants to invite everyone to come, join in and learn about the journey. “My friend Fast Eddy is going to be running across Canada twice raising money for breast cancer and Alzheimer’s,” she explains. “Right now he is raising money to fund his run so we are doing a pasta night at Frick and Frack. I met Fast Eddy this summer at the Farmers Market when he was selling tickets for an event he was doing. We became fast friends and now I am using my fundraising knowledge to help him achieve his goals.” The event, which is being held at Frick and Frack, is an all you can eat spaghetti dinner. There are two seatings, one at 4:30pm and one at 7:00pm. For just $20 you receive all you can eat pasta, a starter Caesar salad and garlic bread. “Frank at Frick and Frack has been great,” she continues. “He got on board right away. Because they are family oriented, we are able to invite kids under 12 for a reduced price of $15.” In addition to dinner, there will also be a silent auction and other prizing. The whole event revolves around Fast Eddy and what his journey will mean to the community. His drive and determination is infectious and he has already become an inspiration to those who know him. “Eddy is still very young,” finishes Dannielle. “So many people say they want to help but they don’t ever get around to it. I find Eddy encouraging because he is doing something he believes in and is accomplishing it. We are very proud.” For more information, to order your tickets or donate silent auction items you can reach Dannielle Port at 250-908-7512 or via email dannielleport@live.ca. Celebrate Sports Day this Saturday!

Berwick on the Park staff braved the cold in front of Lansdowne Coopers collecting food for the Kamloops Food Bank. They collected 539 pounds of food and received, coincidentally, $539 in cash donations. BCICF awards over $10,000 to local charities On November 18, the BC Interior Community Foundation (BCICF), formerly the Kamloops Foundation, awarded grants to ten worthy projects in the BC Interior. Ten organizations will also be receiving close to $10,000 as part of the fall granting program, a joint partnership with the BCICF and the Stollery Foundation Small Grants Program. BCICF Grant Committee co-chairperson Cara Graden says, “In our fall granting process we received 25 grant applications requesting over $105,000 but we were only able to fund 12 percent of the requests made. With so much need in the community, and so many worthwhile causes seeking funding, the Foundation does its best to ensure we are allocating our granting dollars effectively but unfortunately it’s not enough to meet the demand”. With the support of many community builders the Foundation awarded funding to support a number of projects in a variety of different areas; Supporting Youth and Education: Kamloops Early Language and Literacy Initiative was awarded $1,000 towards family literacy nights to increase awareness and availability of quality literacy activities for families. Big Brothers Big Sisters was awarded $1200 towards a mentorship program for girls ages ten to 14. Supporting Health and Welfare: Mt. Paul United

Church was awarded $1,000 towards the sensational soup program that feeds low income families. Kamloops Food Bank was awarded $1,000 towards the purchase of new tires for the refrigerator truck that delivers fresh food to charities around the community. Supporting Arts and Culture: Kamloops Symphony Society was awarded $500 towards the replacement of a twenty- year old digital piano keyboard. Kamloops Arts Council was awarded $1,000 towards supporting youth as emerging artists in the community. Supporting Environment and Recreation: Kamloops Cariboo Regional Immigrants Society was awarded $1,000 towards engaging new Canadians who are feeling isolated in a ten-week cooking program. Sun Peaks Youth Soccer was awarded $1,000 towards the purchase of equipment for the start up of a youth soccer camp and soccer league in the Sun Peaks community. Supporting Children and Families: Interior Community Services was awarded $1,000 towards First Step Program, providing assistance to young mothers for childcare and parenting program. Habitat for Humanity Kamloops Society was awarded $1,000 towards 2014 housing project for the purchase of kitchen appliances for one of the homes.

Santa Claus is officially in town this Saturday Shynkaruk Santa will be full of holiday spirit on tators allowed in the 600 block of Vichis visit to town this Saturday, celebrating with the kids in Kamloops. Taken into storybook land, the Once Upon a Time theme will engage all residents young, old and in between. This annual event is approaching quickly; it is this Saturday, November 29. The day starts with Wake-Up Santa at 10:30am and the parade beginning at 11:00am. Just like last year, there will be some pre-parade entertainment starting at 10:15am along the parade route for the kids. The parade starts at 2nd Avenue and St. Paul Street, runs down 2nd Avenue to Victoria Street and along Victoria Street until 6th Avenue. The parade ends at 6th Avenue. There are no spec-

toria Street. Santa stops at 6th Avenue and turns left. Kamloops Central Business Improvement Association encourages parade spectators to take public transit or carpool to the event. Downtown parkades are free of charge to park in, but take notice that private off-street lots are not free during the event. This includes Lansdowne Village. This incredibly big community event would not be possible without the countless number of volunteers and sponsors here in Kamloops. Kamloops Central Business Improvement Association would like to thank all their sponsors and volunteers, without all of you, the parade would not happen!

to Warriors The Kamloops Blazers have traded 18-year-old forward Jesse Shynkaruk to the Moose Jaw Warriors in exchange for a fourth round WHL Bantam draft pick in either 2015 or 2017. Shynkaruk, who hails from Saskatoon, had eight points with the Blazers in 18 games this season. “We’d like to thank Jesse for his time with the Blazers and wish him luck in Moose Jaw,” commented general manager, Craig Bonner. With the transaction, the Blazers have 24 players on their roster including two goaltenders, eight defensemen and 14 forwards.

$ 49 Your one stop for love A visit to an adult store is something that everyone should do at least once in his or her lifetime, if not more. Adult stores of today, like Downtown Kamloops’ One Stop Love Shop are not your stereotypical places of yesteryear. If your idea of an adult store is an unhygienic hole in the wall full of unkempt and dirty people, think again, they are wonderfully marvellous sources of information, inspiration and far from sleazy. “We’ve been here in this location for one year,” explains Stephanie from One Stop Love Shop. “We know that if it is a first time visit for you that it can be daunting. Our friendly and approachable staff can help you navigate the store and even suggest products and product lines for you. We want everyone to know that we’re here to help!” There’s a reason that a visit can be daunting to the first time shopper. The amount of product

and selection is just amazing. The staff can help you differentiate the products, recommend particular ones based on your preferences and point you in the direction of what you need. They have a giant selection of almost everything from shoes, wigs and clothes to a whole line of Kama Sutra products, bachelorette party supplies, lubricants, safety items, toys, books and more. “We have a wide selection of DVD’s, games, lingerie, toys and more.” continues Stephanie. “Many of our customers tell us that our products are very attractively priced. We have lots of great gift ideas and we even do customer requests. If there is something in particular you are looking for and we don’t have it, we are happy to order it in.” With customers ranging in age from 18 to 80, they come in for a variety of reasons. Some have been referred, some are curious

about sex, some are looking for a way to spice up their lives. All find solutions inside the store. “We are happy to do private parties as well,” finishes Stephanie. “We can host parties here at the store or even in the comfort of your own home. We want to thank Kamloops for all their support and want to let them know that we appreciate their business. If you want to stay up to date on us from home, you can visit us on Facebook at One Stop Love Shop.” Do yourself a favour and stop by the One Stop Love Shop for a visit. They are open seven days a week, 10:00am to 9:00pm, Monday through Wednesday, 10:00am to 10:00pm, Thursday through Saturday and 12:00pm to 8:00pm, Sundays and holidays. Chamber Music Series: Angels – Transcending Time

I need a raise Sam walks into his boss’s office. “Sir, I’ll be straight with you, I know the economy isn’t great, but I have over three companies after me and I would like to respectfully ask for a raise.” After a few minutes of haggling the boss finally agrees to a five percent raise and Sam happily gets up to leave. “By the way”, asks the boss as Sam is getting up, “which three companies are after you?” “The electric company, water company and phone company”, Sam replied.

Q: How do you make the number seven even? A: Drop the “s.”

Join a quartet of Kamloops Symphony Chamber Musicians on November 29 at 7:30pm for this performance at the TRU Alumni Theatre. The KSO Chamber Musicians are Sally Arai, Clarinet; Naomi Cloutier, Piano; Cvetozar Vutev, Violin; Martin Kratky, Cello. The clarinet, piano, violin and cello is an unusual combination of instruments that few composers have combined. Among the few are Walter Rabl, John Williams, and Olivier Messiaen, which make up this performance programme. The first, Walter Rabl’s Quartet for clarinet, violin, cello and piano, is one of only two chamber works Rabl composed. The Quartet was dedicated

to Brahms, and listeners can hear his influence in the piece. It was composed in 1896. The premiere performance

in 1896 won first prize in a Vienna Musicians Association contest and is described as a “very mature work” for such

a young composer. Rabl had only been composing for two or three years at the time. Olivier Messiaen’s Quatuor pour la fin du temps (Quartet for the End of Time), was composed in a war camp during World War 2. French composer Messiaen was captured by the German army at the age of 31. He was inspired by an image from the book of Revelation. The quartet premiered at the camp in 1941 to 400 fellow prisoners. Tickets for Angels – Transcending are available at the door, at Kamloops Live! Box Office: 250-374-5483 or 1-866374-5483, or online at www.kamloopslive.ca. Dear Sagittarius: (Nov. 23 -Dec. 21) Life lightens up and you begin to shine. If you’re looking for love, a smile is all it will take to spark an adventure. Be a little pushy and you’ll get your way. Dear Capricorn: (Dec. 22 - Jan. 20) It’s been busy and although you’d like to keep pushing through, it’s time for a break. Pamper yourself and tally recent adventures. Love returns from the past. Dear Aquarius: (Jan. 21 - Feb. 19) It’s been tough but the team is still looking at you for the answers. Clean up the mess once and for all. You’re almost there. Dear Pisces: (Feb. 20 - Mar. 20) Jump into the holiday spirit and spruce up the office. You’re a dynamo and the bosses notice! Lead the festivities and rewards will follow. Dear Aries: (Mar. 21 - April 20) The financial fight is almost over and it’s time to begin thinking about the holidays. The travel bug catches your eye but it’s important to remember recent lessons and stick to the budget. Love is waiting outdoors. Dear Taurus: (Apr. 21 - May 21) Recent partnerships have romantic ups and downs but it’s now time to focus on the money you could make together. Trust your decisions and give your team a chance. By week’s end you’ll have a good reason to smile. Dear Gemini: (May 22 - June 21) Love is in the air and you’re being seen as love doll #1! Do your best to be your best and talk to strangers. You’re going to unexpectedly bump into some who’ll help you towards your goals. Dear Cancer: (June 22 - July 22) Take a moment and look at all the good you recently created for yourself and your family. There’s a lot to be proud of. As we begin again, take more care of your body and your mind. This means a little more yoga and meditation. Dear Leo: (July 23 - Aug 22) Feeling frisky? You’ve worked hard lately and the rewards were slow to arrive but it’s now your turn to play. Make sure you finish your chores and get to the gym before you head out on Friday Dear Virgo: (Aug. 23 - Sept. 23) Words spell trouble so watch out! Sometimes you can’t avoid trouble but don’t go looking for it. Money arrives from an unusual source Dear Libra (Sept. 24 - Oct. 23) A happy home is not too much to ask for but trouble within the family upsets the balance. Stand up for what you believe. Your smile returns for the weekend. Dear Scorpio: (Oct. 24 - Nov. 22) Well Scorpio did you take that chance in the darkness and reach for your dream or was it more of the same? Now that you’re here, you’re going to have to up your game and create some opportunities in your new world. Astro-week Sonnyscopes courtesy of Collin Sonny Rosati, Vancouver Astrologer, Hypnotist.
