What is In It To Win It? In It To Win It is the most amazing and fun-filled night in Downtown Kamloops. It is the one night a year we give shoppers prizes live on the street. Starting at 4:03pm the elves will be giving away prizes and presents every three minutes! That’s right – a give-away live on Downtown streets every three minutes for three and a half hours. Over 70 prizes will be given away in one evening. When is In It To Win It? In It To Win It takes places during the annual Lights in the Night Christmas Party in Downtown Kamloops on November 28 from 4-7:30pm. Where is In It To Win It? In Downtown Kamloops! You can find a map of all participating businesses in the special pullout section of the Nov 27th edition or download one from kcbia.com How do I participate? It’s easy! Each business participating in Lights in the Night will have a special In It To Win It sign and QR Code located inside their store location. Starting
at 4pm you can simply scan the QR Code at party locations with your phone and you are In It To Win It! Can I enter/win more than once? You may only scan each QR Code once but you may enter at as many stores and locations as you wish. The more you enter, the better chance you have of winning a prize. Some people won multiple prizes last year. Do I have to purchase something to win? No! Entering the contest is free but it will be hard not to shop. Most of the stores and locations on the party trail are offering incredible sales and promotions this evening. Anything from 20% off the entire store to free gift with purchase. Do I need a cellular phone to play? Yes, you must have a cellular phone to play the game. Smart phones with the QR Code reader app installed are the easiest to play In It To Win It with. If you do not have a smart phone, you can still play by texting a special –Continued on page 3

Remember to answer your phone during In It To Win It in Downtown Kamloops on November 28. Every three minutes, from 4:00 to 7:30pm, one lucky winner will be drawn and over $1500 in prizes will be given out! Pictured here is Mairi Dalgleish, counting down to the next draw at last year's event.
–Continued from page 2 code labeled at each participating store to a special phone number which is also displayed. What if I do not have a cellular phone? There will be a special paper draw located at Elf Central, 340 Victoria Street (beside Boston Pizza) for those without cellular phones to enter. You can also stop by Caffe Motivo and see the Bell representatives who will be on hand demonstrating some smart phones and showing people how to download QR Code readers. What is a QR Code? Those little black and white digital looking squares you see in magazines or on posters are QR Codes. QR stands for Quick Response and they can be read by most cellular phones provided they have a camera and the correct app installed. They can be used for many different reasons, but for In It To Win It, scanning the QR Code with your phone sends a unique text message to our elf central telling them your phone number and the location in which you scanned the QR Code. How do I scan the QR Code poster? It’s easy! Simply open your QR Code application that you have downloaded, point your phone at the QR code on the poster and let it scan it. This will bring up a SMS text message with a special phrase. You must make sure to press SEND to make sure we get the entry. If you are unsure if you are do-
ing it correctly, you may stop by Elf Central (340 Victoria St.) or Caffe Motivo (229 Victoria St.) and they can help you out. How do I get a QR Code Reader? It depends on what kind of phone you have. If you have an Apple iphone, simply open up your app store and search ‘qr’ Download QR Code Scanner Quick Scan. If you have an Android phone, you will need to open your Google Play Store and search for ‘QR Droid’ Download and you are ready to go! How do I know if I won? The elves will be phoning winners instantly during the contest, most often within three minutes of placing your winning entry. Remember to answer your phone! Where/when can I pick up my prize? Shoppers will be able to instantly come to pick up their winnings at the customer info kiosk at 340 Victoria Street. Every present was picked up during game night last year! What can I win? It’s a surprise! Almost every business who is participating in In It To Win It and even some who are not have prizes to give away. You will win gift cards, massages, services, chocolate, product and much more! Who is participating? You will be able to enter at each and every place hosting a Lights in the Night activity. There are over 50 places to enter. You may enter only once per location.

Start the night early; create a lantern for the Lumière Parade Would you like to take part in the Lumière Lantern Parade but need some inspiration? Free lantern-making workshops for all ages will be held at Lansdowne Village on Thursday, November 21 and 28 from 3:00pm to 6:00pm. “We can show you how to easily create a magical lantern,” says local artist Una Connor, who will be leading the workshops. All supplies, including battery-powered tealights, will be provided at no charge. This will be the KAC’s fourth annual Lumière Parade; past events were held on Canada Day. “In the summer, it doesn’t get dark until 10:30pm, which was too late for some of our younger participants,” explains
Kathy Sinclair, Kamloops Arts Council executive director. No problem in November; dusk is slated for 4:01pm. The Lumière Lantern Parade is a part of Lights in the Night, the Downtown Business Association’s Christmas Party. The city will be treated to a festival of lights starting at 6:15pm, as dozens of handmade lanterns weave their way from Lansdowne Village to Stuart Wood Elementary for prizes and entertainment. The parade will wind up at St. Andrew’s on the Square at 7:15pm for the lighting of the Christmas tree. First, second and third prizes for best lanterns will be awarded. First prize is a $100 cash award. There will also be a Best TRU Student Lantern Award.

Over 600 shoppers took to the streets during the 2012 In It To Win It promotion. Echo reader Denise Anderson was so happy with her prize that she wrote us a letter to tell us so. To the Echo, I was so happy to participate in the Light up the Night and In It To Win It promotion. My friends and I had a really fun night. We scurried from business to business, checking out each stores wares and scanning the barcodes. I am happy to say that I was the winner of prize number 15, a $10 gift certificate for Caffé Motivo and a $20 Downtown Gift Certificate. The most interesting thing hit me that evening, even though I work Downtown I was going into stores that I had never been to before! It was a great introduction to the Downtown! In fact I revisited Oronge just yesterday and used my Downtown Gift Certificates and picked up my last Christmas present - a funky tiger faced face mask for my son to use when he goes snowboarding. Not only did I save money, I found a unique gift for my son and I was able to shop on my lunch hour! Win, win, win! Thanks Echo Publications and Kamloops Central Business Improvement Association for hosting such a fun event! Denise Anderson

Pay Stations Replace Parking Meters Changes to downtown parking in the fall of 2013 offer more payment options and flexibility
52 pay stations have replaced street parking meters downtown on Lansdowne, Victoria, and Seymour streets. The new Pay Stations will be conveniently located at most intersection corners and at mid-block. The remainder of the 90 Pay Stations will be installed in early spring 2014.
More Payment Options
The new Pay Stations offer more payment options and accept major credit cards and all denominations of coins excluding pennies.
Remember Your License Plate Number
You need to enter your license plate number into our Pay Station when you pay for parking. We suggest using the built in camera of your Smartphone to take a photo of it.
Move Your Car After 3 Hours
We’ve extended our parking time from two hours to three. Time limits are enforced and after 3 hours you must move your car or be subject to a fine.
Take Your Time With You
We want you to relax and enjoy yourself. So take your time. Literally. When using a Pay Station to pay for street parking you can take your remaining time with you and use it to park at any other parking stall downtown
An Extra Hour of Time
We’ve extended our rates from two hours to three. The third hour will cost a little more, but it’s available if you need it.
Merchant Validation Program
When you park downtown you may be eligible for free parking when you shop at participating merchants. Incentives may vary depending on minimum purchase amounts. For more information visit: www.kcbia.com
