High flow cats have long been available in the 4 wheel performance segment, but until now had eluded the motorcycle space. Today we have corrected that inequality. Power without compromise was our goal in designing the El Dorado system, which combines a completely new version of our two into two header (now stainless steel with revised crossover chamber) and a set of our 4.5" Mk45 mufflers with newly developed high flow cats. The result is a system that makes horsepower, torque and an exhaust note that your bike was born to sing. • 50-State legal • Stainless steel tube • Independent dual look with hidden crossover • Full chrome or black heat shielding • Exhaust port gaskets included • 2009-2016 Touring models (2017 coming sooon) • CARB EO # K-010

Indian Wins Again by D on Em de

69 years later, current President of Motorcycles, Steve Menneto, celebrates Indian’s 1-2 finish at the Daytona TT. Winner Jared Mees is on his left with runner-up Bryan Smith on his right. Horst Rosler photo.

Indian Motocycle Company President Ralph Rogers congratulates Floyd Emde for his victory in the 1948 Daytona 200. Floyd’s wife Florence joins in the celebration along with mechanic Noel McIntyre and others. Don Emde Collection.

I

t took 69 years, but Indian finally won another race in Daytona Beach, FL. What makes that statistic significant to me and my family is that until Jared Mees took the checkered flag to win the Daytona TT this past March, no Indian-mounted rider had won a National race in Daytona since my father, Floyd Emde, had won the Daytona 200 there on the beach in 1948. He raced an Indian model 648 Big Base Scout to victory that year, leading the race from start to finish. This year’s Daytona TT was a new twist for Bike Week. The Daytona 200 at the famed Daytona International Speedway has traditionally been the premier race of Bike Week. The roadraces, however, have lost the fan support they once had, so this year the promoters decided to add Dirt Track TT racing. I’ve seen a lot of races there through the years and would say I thought the Daytona TT was a great addition. One thing that made the Daytona TT so interesting was it was the first race of the 2017 American Flat Track series, also the first “battle” in the unofficial competition being called the “Return of the Harley-Indian Wars.” Both companies, Harley-Davidson Inc. and Indian Motorcycle have created all-new purpose-built racing machines. Harley introduced at Daytona an all-new 750cc XG750R v-twin to replace the age-old and legendary XR750, while Indian brought three of the new Scout FTR750 race bikes. The Daytona TT didn’t go perfect for either brand. Indian lost the services of Brad Baker early in the night from a crash. He wasn’t seriously hurt, but needed some medical attention and sat it out.

For Harley, some of their bikes had some teething problems, not uncommon for a first race. At the end, Indian-mounted Jared Mees and Bryan Smith took the top two spots in the Final, giving Indian and its parent company Polaris some history to crow about. Glad I was there. Speaking of Daytona Bike Week, we had two photographers combing the landscape from the north side to the south, getting the action at the most popular biker’s hangouts and vendor markets. Be sure to check out our Daytona Bike Week pictorial in this issue. We’ve got not one, but two full custom project bikes to show you in this issue. The cover bike is a pretty cool Harley-Davidson 48 modified by the guys at Suburban Motors Harley-Davidson in Wisconsin. What’s up with the #68 then on the gas tank? That actually happens to be the first year that Drag Specialties was in business and this project celebrates all that. But wait! That means next year will be 50 years since they started? More on that later. Our other project bike came down to us from our friends in Canada at Hogtunes. They got a spot for a bike on the Drag event truck and went to town. Be sure to have a close look at the 2015 Road Glide where their new Wild Boar Audio system was just the start. We invite you to check it all out in this issue.

NEWS EVENTS John Parham 1954 – 2017

J

ohn Parham dedicated most of his life to motorcycling and to his wife Jill. With passion and perseverance, through tough times and success, together they created J&P Cycles in 1979 and helped motorcyclists world wide enjoy two wheel adventures. Later, John devoted his time and resources to amassing one of the world’s largest and most comprehensive personal collections of motorcycles, in excess of 300 machines. John found a home for many of his motorcycles when he moved the National Motorcycle Museum to his hometown of Anamosa, Iowa. Then he again invested his time and talent to make this a great place to preserve and present American motorcycling history. He worked tirelessly until his long battle with pulmonary fibrosis consumed him, and now he’s at rest with the Lord. John’s battle ended peacefully with Jill and son Zachery at his side. John’s parents were the late John William Parham and wife Anna. He had two siblings, both younger, Luann and Mark and the family originally lived in Shelby, Iowa, both parents involved in education. John would remind us that a lung transplant in 2010 gave him almost seven more years to enjoy his grandchildren, Kaiden and Kinlee, wife Jill, son Zachary and his wife Bree and all his motorcycling friends, and to see the new Museum to its finish and current state of success. John has been so appreciative of the organ donation program, his doctors and the person who lost their life, but in the end helped John live on for so long. If a man is to be measured by the size of his circle of friends and, in this case, those who admired his work building J&P Cycles and the Museum, the list would be very long, perhaps as long as any in motorcycling. Those experts who helped John locate and restore many motorcycles, locate fine memorabilia, John would credit in his success as well. The members of the industry he asked for counsel and ideas, John was careful to remember and give credit as well. Though J&P Cycles is now in the capable hands of their son Zachary Parham, those same confident customers follow and support the Museum as well. Unmatched drive helped

John perfect product development, point of purchase and direct marketing through catalogs of up to 1100 pages earning industry awards for the sheer volume of retail sales; John turned his motorcycling passion into successful retailing. Detail oriented, always evolving the product line at J&P Cycles, and creating new Museum exhibits, John loved to see fellow riders taking in whatever the show or event might be, enjoying their part of motorcycling. Dealernews magazine named J&P Cycles the “World’s Largest Aftermarket Retailer” and the company has been a Top 100 Dealer many times. With over 300 local employees, the success of J&P Cycles also strengthened the Anamosa, Iowa, Jones County community. In whatever way they chose, John wanted people to enjoy motorcycling, was very conscious of customer service, always working for happy customers and, if asked, sharing what he’d learned in his broad personal motorcycling experience. Enjoying motorcycles in action John created events like swap meets, bike shows, drag races, even first organized vintage motorcycle dirt track racing at the Black Hawk Antique Motorcycle Club swap meet at the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds in Davenport, Iowa. Taking the store to the customer, John set up massive displays at events like Sturgis Motorcycle Rally and March and October Bike Weeks in Daytona Beach, Florida later building an impressive 40,000 square foot store at Destination Daytona.

NEWS EVENTS Along the way, in 2015, John was elected into the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame; a grand reward for his decades of work in the Motorcycle Industry and motorcycle museum world. The motorcycling community has lost one of its most passionate, considerate, entrepreneurial and successful people and

he will be greatly missed. Anticipating what would be John’s choice, friends are encouraged to sign up for and support the organ donation program in their community and continue their support of the National Motorcycle Museum where a special Exhibition Development Fund will be created. ■

Riding for a Great Cause BRIAN KLOCK NAMED “ANGEL RIDER” FOR CHARITY RIDE

K

lock Werks’ founder and namesake Brian Klock has been selected as the 23rd anniversary Kyle Petty Charity Ride Across America “Angel Rider.” Nominated directly by former NASCAR driver and NBC racing analyst Kyle Petty, Klock has been awarded this special honor for his significant contribution to the local Mitchell, SD community.

Brian Klock

H.LS SINTER

This May, on a custom-made motorcycle, Klock will join 200 bikers on the 2,400mile cross-country trek. Now in its 23rd year, the Ride raises funds and awareness for Victory Junction, a camp dedicated to providing life-changing camping experiences for children with chronic or life-threatening illnesses. The Ride, one of the most popular and successful charity rides in the country, is led by Petty and features many other celebrity riders. As an Angel Rider, Klock was selected to participate in the ride free of charge, based on nominations received for an individual who is instrumental in their local community. The Angel Rider position is funded by David Andreas, a longtime supporter and participant of the Ride. Klock said he was honored to have been chosen for the ride, adding that he’s thrilled that the ride will be coming through his town of Mitchell where a big celebration will be held near the landmark Corn Palace. In accepting the position, Klock said he’s doing so in honor of the late HarleyDavidson dealer Clifton “Click” Baldwin, who died in 2008 after a motorcycle accident on the way to the Sturgis Rally. The owner of Carolina Harley-Davidson/ Buell, and a well-known V-twin industry figure, was a longtime friend of Petty and participant in the ride. “I’m honored that they would even ask me,” Klock said.

The ride started out with Petty and a small group of friends riding together for fun, and has grown into a popular charity ride. “It’s pretty straightforward: every single mile we ride is for one cause, and that is to send chronically ill children to camp at Victory Junction at no cost to their families,” said Petty. ■

With a Saddleman Eliminator tail section, a Memphis Shades fairing and beefy Dunlops on RSD wheels a Harley XL48 never looked tougher. Lean and mean, it all came from the FatBook.

Blacked-out controls include a Drag Specialties Superbar on Trask’s Assault Series risers, LA Choppers Fusion master cylinder cover, Ken’s Factory grips and Motion Pro cables.

S

ee the number 68 on the side of this bike? Emblazoned in gold leaf, that’s in reference to Drag Specialties’ first year in business. The bike itself is a Harley-Davidson 48, a special model Sportster. That number denotes the first year for the iconic peanut gas tank.

Here you’ve got two firsts – a celebration of Drag’s first year in business, and a piece of Harley’s rich history. Both are part and parcel of this latest FatBook build, a way-cool example of the current popular custom genre, and a big nod to today’s new breed of rider. There was a time when custom Harleys were easily defined. Raked and extended front ends, tall and skinny front wheels and even taller ape-hanger handlebars and fishtail pipes ruled the roads. Think Captain America, that counter-culture chopper hero of the baby boomers. More recently it’s been stylized, big wheel Baggers taking center stage. But times, and demographics, change. For a whole new group of Harley riders neither of those styles resonate. Just take a look around at bike nights and big events everywhere; there are packs of younger guys and gals showing up with their own ideas of what a cool motorcycle is. And more often than not it’s a bike a lot like this one. None of this is lost on the Drag Specialties team, and it wasn’t lost on HarleyDavidson, either. The Sportster 48, bulldog tough with an inner-city stance and no-nonsense styling, hit this new demographic right where they live.

An S&S Stealth air cleaner kit with an Air Stream cover and RSD Nostalgia rocker box covers dress up the powerplant.

Built for business, braking power comes from 4- and 6-piston PM calipers and RSD rotors. That’s a Custom Dynamics LED license plate frame on the tail.

Dunlop Trailsmarts lend an aggressive look, Drag Specialties adjustable shocks control the ride and a Custom Dynamics Trubeam LED headlamp lights the way. The pulley and belt guards are RSD Tracker.

Raw, raucous and fitting into a young rider’s budget it checked all the right boxes. Which isn’t to say that with just a little more effort and expenditure it can’t check off a whole lot more. FatBook bolt-on facelifts have made cool Harleys even cooler for years. Once again, Joe Houpt and the guys in the race shop at Suburban Motors Harley-Davidson in Thiensville, WI. have taken a stock Harley and gave it a new look – both quickly and easily. Check it out, and look it over carefully. There’s plenty here that the current crop of Harley riders need to know about and it’s all in the Drag Specialties catalog. Beginning with a 2010 Sportster 48 — a bike that can be picked up for a song — first things to go were the wheels. A smart starting point for any custom, here a pair of Roland Sands Design’s Morris designs replaced the originals.

Seventeen-inchers, they were shod with big and meaty Dunlop Trailsmart tires, 150/70 on the tail, 130/80 up front. A fair number of RSD’s many other Sportster goodies made the parts list, too. There are wheel-matching rotors along with the Black Ops rear-sets, fork brace and belt guard to name just a few. A function-with-tough-guy-form Speed Merchant skid plate also found a home on the bike. Up top that’s one of those cool Memphis Shades Café fairings, and behind it there’s now a Drag Specialties Superbar on Trask 8-inch risers. Incidentally, a NAMZ extended harness eased the installation of that new handlebar. All the control cables were switched for Motion Pro Blackouts. MagnaFlow’s Riot 2-into-1* with its short and stubby megaphone muffler was an obvious exhaust choice and Saddleman’s Eliminator tail section and faux-carbon-fiber

seat added some real sport to the Sportster. Suspension upgrades like the Drag Specialties 13-inch adjustable shocks, and enhanced braking from Performance Machine’s 4- and 6-piston calipers add even more sports appeal. Take a look at the accompanying Build Sheet for the full rundown. BIKE WEEK 2017 RIDERS CELEBRATE AN ANNUAL RITE OF SPRING Story by Joe Kress Photos by Joe Kress and Horst Rosler

C

ompared to last year’s Daytona Bike Week, which was a celebration of the motorcycle gathering’s 75th anniversary, this year’s running was a bit more sedate. However, when you’re counting attendance by the hundreds of thousands, give or take, those numbers hardly tell the whole story. Now in its 76th year, the 2017 version of Bike Week was a blast. Traditionally, Bike Week is the first hoo-rah of the riding season, a chance to dust off motorcycles stored for the winter,

and head out on the road under the warm Florida sunshine. Bike Week ’17 had all of that, with a caveat. Weather during the 10-days was kind of up and down, warm and sunny one day, a tad chilly the next. While local riders were grousing about those wild temperature swings, even breaking out the chaps and facemasks, anyone who’d trailered in from a couple feet of northern-state snow was absolutely giddy – and often riding around in a T-shirt! As always, there was plenty of riding to be done with lots to see and do. continued on page 24...

W

hen Harley-Davidson released its first new engine in 17 years last August, the MilwaukeeEight, it was a natural fit to have it power the company’s popular Touring bike lineup. After all, it’s that segment that’s been fueling the V-twin market for the better part of a decade.

BAGGERS

The Touring market is running at full throttle

Just take a look around — in parking lots, on showroom sales floors, at regional rallies and out on the open road — and it’ll become readily apparent; the Bagger bike market is booming. Better yet, get a look at all the new aftermarket products appearing in those FatBook updates and monthly issues of The Skinny and you’ll see an avalanche of items aimed at your Touring bike customers. Just how big of the Harley-Davidson pie belongs to those Dresser motorcycles? Well, in 2016, Harley-Davidson’s global shipments totaled 262,221 units, and Touring bikes accounted for 107,410 units, or 41 percent of those shipments. Power Products Marketing, a Minneapolis-based research firm, surmises that Touring models account for approximately 29 percent of all bikes retailed in the U.S. last year.

Many aftermarket vendors and customers see Touring bikes as the ultimate blank-slate platform, ready to be customized and built out to really perform. John Eastman photo

Even Indian Motorcycle, in its renewed rivalry with the Motor Company, now has eight models in its Touring and Bagger category, including the new Chieftain Limited and Chieftain Elite released in April. And let’s not forget the metric bike market, which lays claim to that flagship tourer, the Honda Goldwing, and any number of fully bagged cruisers from a range of OEMs. With that many new bikes coming into the market, as well as the existing motorcycles that have found their way onto the used market, the opportunity is ripe for the aftermarket, and for dealers, when it comes to customizing, performance upgrades and everyday maintenance products.

MARKET OVERVIEW

S P E C I A L

F E AT U R E

Klock Werks have long been a major player in the Bagger market. The company not only produces function and stylish parts, but also creates some eye-catching customs.

S&S Cycle counts on the Touring bike market for a fair portion of its business. When your customers want to wake up their Bagger bikes, point them to the onetwo punch of an S&S air intake and exhaust system.

Bagger Boom “Talk with any Harley-Davidson salesman or sales woman and they’ll tell you, it’s a Bagger world,” says Camron Bussard, Cobra Engineering’s marketing director. “Even a quick glance around the show floors shows a lot more Baggers than any of the other models combined.” Bussard adds that while Cobra is always committed to producing a full line of products for Dynas, Softails and Sportsters, it’s the Bagger line that’s leading the pack for the other models and this is reflected in the company’s product portfolio. The more popular Bagger items in the line? “Three words — slip-on mufflers, especially for the 2017 models,” he says. “For 2016 and earlier, head pipes are a popular option for riders.” In an era of highly specialized and niche motorcycle segments, what’s been fueling the demand for these big, heavy and powerful machines? According to many in the aftermarket it’s a combination of a bike style that’s extremely rideable for miles and miles, and is endlessly customizable. “A stock Bagger is really a sketch waiting for a rider to make it his own, whether that’s going to be an around-town rider, a performance beast or a cross-country platform,” Bussard says. “There are so many really great products

available to help riders make their machines a truly oneof-a-kind motorcycle.” When it comes to “performance beasts,” the team over at S&S Cycle knows a thing or two about the Bagger market. “Harley-Davidson Touring machines are enjoying a 10-year run as the number one selling motorcycle in the U.S., and account for a fair portion of our business,” says David Zemla, the company’s vice president of marketing. Whether it’s older machines powered by the Evolution and Twin Cam motors needing rebuild parts or completely overhauled engines, or the new generation of Milwaukee-Eight bikes getting the full-breathing treatment of air intake and exhaust, Zemla says S&S is well-positioned to service the Bagger crowd, adding, “The market’s thirst for performance has shown no signs of waning, and we’ll continue to innovate in that space.” While rideability and customization might be some of the major forces feeding the frenzy, those two factors aren’t the only pieces of the Touring bike puzzle. According to Tom Motzko, Drag Specialties vendor relations guru, the Dresser market can be further teased apart by the type of customer who is riding those bikes. continued on page 38...

MARKET OVERVIEW

F E AT U R E

Custom Dynamics’ David Pribula says the Bagger market is extremely important to the company’s lineup, with many touring customers seeking out products to add visibility and safety to their rides.

When customers are looking to customize their Touring bikes, they’re often looking for something other than the standard chrome. For these buyers, Khrome Werks offers its product line featuring the proprietary Eclipse finish.

Bagger Boom ...continued from page 36

For instance, you have one type of Touring customer who is riding to Sturgis from Indiana with his wife on the back. He might deck out his ride with all the creature comforts that’ll make those miles of asphalt enjoyable. On the other hand might be a full-on custom guy who is interested in building a highly styled big-wheel bagger kitted out with multiple thousands of dollars of Paul Yaffe and Performance Machines parts. Bridging that space between form and function by offering such items as windshields and handlebars, as well as building ground-up customs, Klock Werks is well versed in all-things Bagger. Founder and namesake Brian Klock points out that the company made its name in the business in 2006 with the Bagger it built for the Discovery Channel Biker Build-Off series, and now that market segment accounts for about 80 percent of its current business. Klock sees the segment continually growing now that there are younger riders now showing interest in what has historically been thought as an “old man” motorcycle style. “The younger crowd is riding their friend’s Street Glide and 38

realizing they like having the audio, the navigation and, most importantly, the storage,” he notes. “They are finding they like traveling on the bikes and it has created a need they didn’t know they had.” Along with that new generation of Touring bike riders, Klock predicts that the market will see some changes coming given that many of those new customers have been raised on a steady diet of action sports and performance-minded activities and will want something that handles, brakes aggressively and travels in comfort. And, for a generation that also values their individuality, those easily customized Touring bikes seem especially suited for the job. “These bikes are the anti-Prius, where everyone looks just like the other one,” says Cobra’s Bussard. “With a Bagger, you can customize not just the look, but the performance, the sound, the feel — everything! They are simply wonderful platforms to build upon.” ■

uggage can play a huge role with rider comfort and convenience. Whether on an all-day joyride or weeklong getaway, proper storage is vital when bringing along the essentials — including pets.

Riders lose valuable road time being bogged down by hulking bags requiring a surplus of straps that are harder to assemble than a pile of DIY furniture components. Kuryakyn’s new Momentum luggage answers the call with a trio of bags that deliver rugged utilitarian styling, versatile packing capabilities and hassle-free mounting. Momentum bags feature durable construction from UV-rated, weather-resistant 1200 denier textile material. Quick-mount designs offer convenient securing and removal on a wide range of motorcycles. Each bag includes rain covers, external bottle pockets, MOLLE modular attachment options (a popular system found on tactical and recreational equipment,) and low-profile carrying handles for easy transport off the bike.

Freeloader Duffel Bag The Freeloader Duffel (p/n 35150184) gives new meaning to the phrase stow-andgo. A wide top-roll sealed design offers easy access to a cavernous 2,375 cu. in. main storage (fully expanded). A separate bottom zippered compartment and multiple quick-stash pockets allow convenient access to the rain cover or other necessities. The external adjustable bungee storage system accommodates coats, bedrolls or other items, and the side-release buckle mounting system attaches to virtually any sissy bar or backrest in seconds. Bikes without sissy bars can utilize integrated D-Rings and additional straps for mounting to passenger seats or luggage racks.

The Hitchhiker (p/n 3522-0008) is a highly versatile tour trunk rack bag. Integrated elastic shock cords with hookand-loop fasteners make secure mounting a breeze on any trunk-mounted rack.

Crossover Eliminators And “Quick Change” Mufflers More from Bassani for the Milwaukee 8

Bassani’s new Crossover Eliminator and Quick Change mufflers provide plenty of pep and style for the 2017 HarleyDavidson Touring bikes.

T

he 2017 Baggers are out there and Bassani hasn’t wasted any time coming up with the new exhausts for them. There’s a whole assortment of power-packed pipes and mufflers ready for these torque-filled bikes, full systems like the Road Rage III 2-into-1s (a great match for the new Milwaukee 8 engine) and True Dual Down Unders for riders after that twinpipe look. There’s a full selection of mufflers in long- and short-megaphone and straight-can styles, too, a lineup that includes the Bassani DNTs – the Deep and Throaty Slip-ons. Everything is offered in chrome or black and it’s all designed especially for the ’17 Harleys, direct bolt-ons. And coming with features like stepped headers, big collectors and even bigger 4-inch muffler bodies they are engineered for horsepower and torque gains throughout the powerband, exactly what you’d expect from Bassani. It’s all available and Drag Specialties has it. And now there’s even more. Just out from Bassani, and just for those 2017 Baggers, there’s the Crossover Eliminators along with a whole new range of “Quick Change” Slip-on mufflers. You’ll want to know about it and so will your customers. The brand-new Crossover Eliminator is especially interesting. Essentially, this Bassani innovation – a unique block-off cap for the crossover pipe on the 2017 HarleyDavidson bagger’s stock header system – the Crossover

Eliminator turns that OE Harley head pipe into a 2-into-1 system. Combined with a Bassani Slip-on muffler this clever part instantly gives you the power-packed performance of a 2-into-1, eliminating the need for the left-side muffler, as well. And there are plenty of muffler choices to work with all this. Of course there are the Bassani 4-inch Megaphones, in black or chrome with that tough-sounding DNT Core and black tapered end caps with machined flutes. Bassani’s Straight Can 4-inch mufflers, again in black or chrome with the DNT core and the machined and tapered end caps are another option. But all that’s just a start now because there are brand-new “Quick Change” 4-inch mufflers also available for those 2017 baggers, and of course Drag Specialties already has them. Big 4-inch mufflers, the “Quick Changers” all feature a 2 ½-inch louvered baffle for a deep, aggressive note and they’re available with either chrome or black finishes. Plus, to personalize all this Bassani has five different end caps available here. There are chrome and black slash cuts and three machine-fluted styles. And all of this can be mixedand-matched, “Quick Changed,” for a new look each way. The slash cuts can even be rotated up, down or out. ■

Hitman Slip-Ons

Performance Boost, Style Upgrade

W

ith the Hitman slip-ons, MagnaFlow has managed to combine a deep, rumbling sound, real seat-of-the-pants power gains, and a look custom styled just for 1995 to 2016, and 2017 Harley-Davidson Touring models. With the Touring market running red-hot right now, many of your Bagger riding customers are looking for a styling upgrade as well as a performance boost. The Hitman slip-ons are a perfect complement to those Baggers. First of all, the Hitmans are big, 4½-inches in diameter. Available in either chrome or black they’ll match up style-wise with any bike. In fact, the angle of the Hitman’s precision-channeled slash-cut end caps perfectly matches the angle of stock or extended saddlebags. Or, should your customer choose, those angled end caps can be rotated for a customized look.

Hitman slip-ons from MagnaFlow give Harley-Davidson Touring bikes a significant styling upgrade as well as a nice boost in performance.

Right along with all that Bagger-bike style there’s a sound quality that’s signature MagnaFlow, a deep, thundering bass. With the company’s Pro Flow three-step perforated core baffles the Hitman slip-ons are performers. These mufflers are custom tuned for the long-haul rider wanting to turn heads. Hitman slip-ons are an upgrade all the way, and they’re an easy bolt-on to stock or MagnaFlow headpipes. Slip-ons are a popular pick, a favorite first-move for riders looking for that maximum punch combined with classic good looks and a great sound. The MagnaFlow Hitmans deliver on all counts. The Hitman slip-ons are ideal for tuned engines that really need to breathe, but also pack a punch for stock motors. Variations of the two finishes available are chrome with chrome tips, chrome with Accent Cut black tips, or black with accent cut black tips. Of course, all this is made in the USA and MagnaFlow includes all the necessary mounting hardware. The clamps, bolts, lock washers and even a tube of Loctite® thread locker is supplied. There’s nothing left to buy for a quick and easy installation onto the OE Harley-Davidson headpipes or, for a full upgrade, onto a set of MagnaFlow Pro Dual pipes. ■

The tank logo spells it out. This Road Glide is a rolling demo of the Wild Boar Audio package. And it’s all here, the 6½-inch front speakers, the 6 x 9 rear speakers in Hogtunes saddlebag lids and a powerful 150 x 4 Wild Boar amplifier.

CUSTOM BIKE

H

ave you heard about Wild Boar Audio? It’s a new high-end line of motorcycle sound systems from Hogtunes, out for just a few months now. If you haven’t yet heard about Wild Boar it’s very likely you’re familiar with Hogtunes.

Those motorcycle-tough audio packages have always sounded great, they come in with some friendly prices and install in a snap. Hogtunes systems have been top sellers and rider favorites for more than a decade. Well, Wild Boar takes all that to the next level. “We’ve wanted to do a line like this for years,” says Hogtunes owner Mike “Pez” Pesdirz. “But like everything we do here, we wanted to do it right. Now was the time.” So now you’ve heard about Wild Boar Audio. But that, Pez figured, wasn’t nearly enough. To make sure that dealers and riders actually hear a Wild Boar setup first-hand, get an earful of exactly what Wild Boar Audio is all about and what it offers, he put all this new equipment on a motorcycle and put that motorcycle on a Drag Specialties show truck for the 2017 Exclusive Dealer Training Tour. Unlike Hogtunes, with applications across the board, Wild Boar Audio products are designed for 2014 and later bikes only. They require a radio refresh for optimal performance. The bike Pez chose to showcase the new equipment, a 2015 Road Glide, falls right into that application parameter.

Control upgrades include Trask V-Line floorboards and shifter pegs and a Ness Deep Cut shifter rod. The rear fender is a Yaffe Bagger Nation Chupa with frenched-in license and LED lights.

Since Wild Boar is in the FatBook, and the bike would be out there right alongside all those other Drag Specialties show machines, naturally Pez took the Road Glide for a trip through the FatBook, front to back. The Road Glide would not only sound good, it would look good. Working with Brian Olsen Racing Services in Georgetown, Ontario, Canada, and Roger Pouw at Extreme Measures Paint in Oakville, Ontario he came up with a stunner. Naturally, the Road Glide got the full Wild Boar treatment. It’s all here, the new 6½-inch front speakers, the 6 x 9 rear speakers, the 150 x 4 amplifier and a pair of Hogtunes saddlebag lids. But that was just the start. Pez and the guys didn’t hold back, incorporating a regular “Who’s Who?” list from the FatBook. As is so often the case, custom changes began with the wheels. A pair of those cool Coastal Moto Largos went on, 21-inches for the front, 18 in the rear with Metzeler ME880s on both.

CUSTOM BIKE

A tire-hugging Klock Werks Tude front fender and one of Paul Yaffe’s Bagger Nation Chupa fenders cover the rubber. That rear fender is flanked by a pair of Drag Specialties extended saddlebags complemented by Bagger Nation’s saddlebag-matching Swoop Side covers. It all adds up to a cool look, further intensified by a Trask Performance V-Line chin spoiler/frame cover. Speaking of Trask, the bike got plenty more from the company’s lineup, everything from fork-tube covers, handlebars and grips to the footpegs, floorboards, Assault Charge* air cleaner and saddlebag latches. There are also the Misfit Industries 2-into-1 pipes*, an S&S Cycle cam kit*, Custom Dynamics lighting, Dakota Digital instrumentation and plenty more. All of this combined with the triple-tone Blue/ Black/Silver paint job by Extreme Measures, made sure that Wild Boar Audio show bike is a regular head turner. Take a look, and take a look at the accompanying Build Sheet for the full rundown of FatBook bolt-ons used here. But more to the point, get yourself over to the Drag Specialties show truck when it’s at a nearby event and take a listen, too. ■

In the Here’s Aron hitting the dirt on the 2014 Cannon Ball Centennial Ride. Barry Hathaway photo. process the company has come up with one great looking part or product after another. They call it Designs In Motion. Over the years, plenty of those custombuilding goodies have made their way from the Cycle Visions San Diego, CA shop straight into the FatBook. If you haven’t thumbed through those Cycle Visions pages lately you really need to do it now. There’s a lot to see there and a lot of your customers will want to know about it. Take, for instance, the Cycle Visions fender risers. Swapping the OE front wheel on a latemodel Harley-Davidson Touring model for a 21- or 23-inch custom replacement is a popular move. Well, Cycle Visions has taken some of the sting out of the cost of that modification by allowing riders to retain their stock front fender. The fender risers are available in chrome or black powder-coat finishes and in sizes scaled for either 21- or 23-inch wheels. Priced right and easily installed they’re an extremely popular problem-solver of the first order. Cycle Visions’ Extended Saddlebags and Bagger-Tail rear fender kits are something else those FL riders will want to see. Constructed of fiberglass with a gel-coat finish and 4-inch extensions, the saddlebags are available with or without exhaust cutouts. The bags also accept stock Harley-Davidson lids and hardware. The matching

Bagger-Tail fender, also fiberglass with a gel-coat finish, completes the new look and even features filler panels and a recessed pocket for the Cycle Visions Eliminator taillight. There are also kits to put real, OEM hard-sided saddlebags on Softails and Sportsters. Made with high-quality steel and available with a black powder-coat or chrome finish, the kits allow the use of standard 1993 through 2013 FLT/ FLHT saddlebags, depending on the application. They come with all the necessary hardware and fastening mechanisms and work with both fixed or detachable sissybar side plates.

The Batwing kit for select Softails includes adapter brackets that attach to the existing OEM fairing support brackets, works with or without engine guards and no frame modifications are needed. The kits to install those 1998 through 2013 FLTR fairings are just as easy to install. Applications cover most Softail or Dyna models and, here again, no frame modifications are needed. Both kits, for the Batwings and those FLTR fairings, are high-quality steel with a black powder-coated finish. Extended Saddlebags and Bagger-Tail rear fender kits

Cycle Visions fender risers allow your customers to retain their stock front fender when mounting a 21-inch or 23-inch front wheel.

Cycle Visions also has plenty of custom lighting for saddlebags. The company’s Bag Lites are easily installed, have bright LEDs and come with a run/turn/brake controller, which only controls the Bag Lites. Machined from T-6 aluminum with a chrome-plated bezel, they’re available with a chrome or black powder-coat finish and come with a quick-disconnect wiring harness for easy bag removal. They’re available in twoor four-light kits. The Lucifer Lights are pretty cool, too. Small and bright (measuring just a half-inch high), they feature super-bright/twofunction LEDs.

Interesting products, and all this is just some of what Cycle Visions has in the FatBook. Look a little deeper and you’ll find a whole selection of neat license-plate mounts with built-in lighting, like the Curved Slick Signals with LED run, turn, and brake lights. There are custom-cool beveled license plate frames, too, and license plate bar eliminators and In-Close license plate holders, mounting off the axle adjusters, to tuck that plate in tight on Softails, Dynas and Sportsters. They’re available with or without that Slick Signals LED lighting. Keep going and you’ll find 2-inch Fork Tube Extensions for both 41mm and 49mm fork tubes, a whole selection of Attitude Style sissybar sticks, lighted three-function Afterburner exhaust tips, speedometer relocation kits for Sportsters and a whole lot more. ■

Making Oil Changes Fast and Easy

S&S Cycle’s new Quick Change Oil Kits are a turnkey oil change solution. They are available for Twin Cam engines as well as Big Twins and Sportsters with Evolution engines.

T

here is a good chance that a lot of your customers are DIY garage techs when it comes to routine maintenance like oil changes.

Sure, they want your back-shop professionals to take over when it comes to projects like hop-up work, motor tear downs and other complicated services, but with a decent set of tools and the right supplies, they’ll take care of that minor — though very important — wrenching. After all, taking care of routine maintenance could mean the difference between getting out for a ride or staring at a parked bike. S&S Cycle wants to make sure those customers have what they need for that critical work. That’s why the company now offers an all-in-one-package oil change kit. This turnkey oil change solution includes four quarts of oil and a chrome oil filter so that your customers can get the job done right and get it done quickly. The kit comes in two options — one for Harley-Davidson Twin Cam engines (p/n 3601-0413) and one for Big Twins and Sportsters with Evolution engines (p/n 36010412). Both feature four quarts of S&S Cycle’s premium 20W-50 synthetic motor oil and one of the company’s high quality oil filters.

58

DRAG SPECIALTIES MAGAZINE

JUNE 2017

S&S Cycle’s premium synthetic oil is formulated to keep American V-twins running like new for years. The oil resists extreme heat in large-displacement, air-cooled engines, and the added moly content helps reduce heat, friction and wear. The oil also features enhanced zinc and phosphorous levels for increased engine-wear protection. All of this combines to provide a high level of protection for those hard-working V-twin engines. The oil even meets Harley-Davidson warranty requirements. Your customers should also get a look at those chrome oil filters. The sturdy steel canisters house high-quality filtering media. To ease removal and installation, S&S Cycle makes its canisters slightly smaller in diameter than stock oil filters. The filters are also designed with a direct bypass valve that routes bypass oil directly to the filter exit. This minimizes that amount of contaminants carried to the engine in the unfiltered bypass oil. They are also built to capture smaller particles than the OE filter, but still allow for plenty of oil flow. ■

Going all the way back to the original Gooden Tite riser bushing kits, the company has made stability and a vibration-free feel the name of the game. Now, Alloy Art offers up its new Strong Arm Inner Fairing Supports for Electra Glides, Ultra Glides and Street Glides with bigger and heavier aftermarket speakers and amplifiers in their fairings. Once installed, the brackets will tame any fairing vibration. Direct replacements for the factory brackets, the Strong Arms are made from super-strong and lightweight injection-molded high-impact nylon. Featuring a unique pocketed design, they not only deliver all that vibrationcancelling strength to the fairing-mount, but they’re also lighter than the stock Harley-Davidson brackets.

Alloy Art’s Strong Arm Inner Fairing Supports let your Bagger customers install heavier aftermarket speakers and amplifiers, all without any annoying vibration.

Switching to bigger, heavier and better-sounding speakers and amps isn’t a problem anymore, not with the Strong Arms in place. They’re easily installed, priced right, and anyone putting a mega-sound audio system into a Harley fairing needs a look here. It’s a problem solved. All that Alloy Art problem solving doesn’t begin and end with the Strong Arms, of course. These are the guys who came up with those Gooden Tite riser bushings, still available and still reducing handlebar vibrations. With Gooden Tites for custom risers and springers also in the lineup, Alloy Art has handlebar mounts covered.

The fold-up MX shifter peg adds a nice motocross-flavored touch to your customers’ V-twin motorcycles.

The company also produces Combi Stabilizer kits, Touring Frame Stabilizers, TXR Stabilizers, Gooden Tite Softail Shock-Bushing Kits, Iso Front Motor Mounts and Cush Drive Dampeners. All of these items are available from the FatBook. While you’re at it have a look at some of the other new Alloy Art offerings. Right along with those Strong Arm fairings brackets there are new forward-control linkages for most Dyna, Softail and Touring applications. There are also mid-control linkages for 1991 through 2017 FXDs, and 1984 and later FXRs. One extra cool products is the new fold-up MX shifter peg, a universal fit for all HarleyDavidson models. It’s all strong, simple, fully adjustable and available in a variety of finishes. ■

Simple Solutions

Problem Solvers for Motorcyclists Looking for somewhere to stow saddlebags during a service? Check out the Saddlebag Dock from Reda. The anti-scratch foam will keep those bags firmly planted.

R

When the saddlebags are in place on the motorcycle, the Saddlebag Lock Kit provides a secure mounting option. The kit replaces the stock fasteners that hold the saddlebags to the bike with 5/16-inch threaded thumbscrew bolts, and their design prevents the bags from falling off as well as theft. The kit is sold as a set for two saddlebags. Another saddlebag solution from Reda Innovations is the Saddlebag Posi-lock. A threaded stud with ball detents is attached to the U-nut on the bike frame to keep saddlebags in place. After the thumbscrews are applied, the ball detents push out to prevent the screws from unthreading.

eda Innovations believes that part of making great products is finding simple solutions to everyday challenges. When it comes to motorcycles, the company’s products do everything from securing luggage to providing safe storage for fairings.

Riders who want to walk away from their luggage and jacket without worrying about theft will appreciate the Luggage/Jacket Lock. The easy, inexpensive cable slidethrough system is simple to use, but ultra-secure.

The mastermind behind Reda Innovations is Ron Reda, who filed his first patent at the age of 12. He had already started a mail order company by 14 years old, selling his products in the pre-Internet age.

In a roadside emergency, the Lightstick Cycle Stick is an electronic LED flare that can be seen from a mile away. It can be placed on the ground or mounted to the lid of a Tour-Pak to provide a light source.

That enterprising spirit still drives Reda today. His company uses innovative engineering and design, cutting-edge technology, and top materials and manufacturing to produce products that solve problems. Reda Innovations products, which are made in the USA, can be found throughout the FatBook and OldBook. The Harley-Davidson Fairing Dock provides a safe storage option for batwing-style fairings, holding the fairing in place with minimum touch points. The anti-scratch foam goes easy on the fairing, but it is tougher than it feels. The foam will not absorb liquids or chemicals that might be on the garage floor. Similarly, the Reda Innovations Saddlebag Dock holds saddlebags in place, utilizing the same scratch-resistant closed cell foam as the Fairing Dock. The contours grip the shape of the bags to prevent them from falling over, but the lids can still be opened and closed easily while docked.

The Saddlebag Lock Kit replaces the stock hardware with threaded thumbscrew bolts.

The Reda Gas Can is designed to tuck into the angled corner of a saddlebag and holds 1 gallon of fuel.

Similarly, the Reda Gas Can is a just-in-case item. Designed to fit most Harley-Davidson style saddlebags, the 1-gallon can tucks into the angled corner of a saddlebag. The gas can is EPA and CARB certified, which means that it is vapor proof and spill proof. Drag Specialties also has Reda’s unique Handlebar Work Station, which holds handlebars in both upright and upsidedown positions for easy maintenance and modification. The non-scratch material is easy on the bars and has a universal fit, and two recesses hold tools and hardware. ■

style, the stepped primary headers merge into a 2½-inch collector. A tapered baffle exit cone enhances low-end torque, and heat shields are included. Khrome Werks’ 2-into-2 exhaust systems with two-step crossover headers in the Eclipse finish offer Bagger customers a nice performance and styling upgrade.

K

hrome Werks understands that riders want their motorcycles to stand apart from the pack. The Eclipse finish family of products, including exhausts, mufflers, handlebars, sissy bars and engine guards, offers a unique soft black finish. The Eclipse look is achieved with a proprietary, hightemperature black chrome electroplated finish, and Drag Specialties carries plenty of Eclipse options for Harley-Davidson Touring models to help riders get a coordinated look.

The Eclipse finish can be found on Khrome Werks’ 4-inch high-performance mufflers* with billet tips. The mufflers offer a rich, deep tone that is the result of a high-flow baffle assembly and radially punched holes at the exit of the exhaust. Several styles of steel handlebars with a 1¼-inch diameter are available in the Eclipse finish to complement the exhaust systems. Drag Specialties carries bobber-style ape hangers, fat ape hangers, extended reach handlebars and heritage handlebars in Eclipse. Each style arrives pre-drilled and notched to accommodate internal wiring and electronic throttle control. Khrome Werks also offers its OEM-style engine guards in Eclipse for 2009 to 2017 FL models.

The company’s 2-into-2 exhaust system* with crossover headers, available in the Eclipse finish, offers improved horsepower and low-end torque thanks to enlarged interconnected headers. Inside the 4-inch muffler are removable baffles wrapped in stainless steel wool and high-temperature fiberglass to enhance the rich tone. Riders who are looking for headers only can opt for the 2-into-2 crossover headers with heat shields, which accept any 1995 to 2016 OEM-style Bagger mufflers.

Eclipse sissy bar side straps, uprights and pads feature Khrome Werks’ proprietary black-chrome-electroplated Eclipse finish. The side straps have a four-screw mounting system with external screws for easy removal of the upright. Sissy bars are available in three styles in 11-inch configurations: the Lowboy, Mini Lowboy and Round. The pads come in Custom Pillow or Plain Style with Eclipsefinish custom brackets and screws.

A 2-into-2 system* that is new to Khrome Werks and Drag Specialties is a high-performance exhaust for 2017 touring models. The billet-tipped mufflers are 4½-inches in diameter with 2-inch inlets, and the exhaust has a horsepower-boosting three-step system.

Khrome Werks designs exhausts for power and a signature sound combined with precision fitment. The designers aim to enhance horsepower and torque over stock numbers without sacrificing bottom-end power. The company’s exhausts and other products are American made. ■

Hotop Designs, Right in the FatBook The Drag/Hotop Enricher Knob Assembly is a nice upgrade for customers running S&S Cycle E or G carburetors.

T

he Drag Specialties/Don Hotop collaborating partnership has been going strong for more than two decades. It started in the mid ’90s when master builder Don Hotop brought his first product to the FatBook – a wire clamp he’s been using on his customs for years. Thus was the beginning of a long and diverse list of custom parts all bearing the Drag Specialties/Hotop Design brand. From simple or stylized mirrors to customcurved license plate mounts and some incredibly cool oil-pressure sending unit covers, they’ve all been problem solvers of the first order. Hotop’s attention to detail has always distinguished the customs coming out of Don’s Speed & Custom Cycle in Fort Madison, Iowa, and the clever, no-nonsense pieces making those bikes so cool have become the hallmark of everything bearing that Drag/Hotop name, a list that continues to grow. Running an S&S Cycle E or G carb? Take a look at Don’s trick little Enrichener Knob Assembly. This good-looking kit replaces the stock S&S enrichener lever, retains the stock plunger and spring and adds a setscrew for progressive enrichment. For another Drag/Hotop S&S upgrade, check out the Air Ramp for S&S breather gears. Simple in design, it removes more air from the crankcase by increasing the CFM flow by almost 80 percent. With Don Hotop, form always comes with function. Speaking of that form with function, how about a Drag/Hotop chrome-plated Transmission-Vent Cover? Fitting both 5- and 6-speed transmissions with an

OEM top-vent hose, the cover installs in minutes for a unique, custom look.

There’s also a new Front Motor Mount Limiter Kit. Especially useful for big-inch/ big-power engines, it restricts excessive movement of the engine in the frame, installs with OE hardware and brings a cool, natural billet-aluminum finish to the game. Along those lines of vibration and vibration-resistance, Hotop has come up with a sturdy and cool-looking Ignition/Starter Switch. Water and vibration resistant, its off/on/start functionality works just like an automotive switch. Neat and simple, it’s firmly held in place with a chrome-plated billet retaining nut. With more than four decades in the business, Hotop always builds bikes with parts that turn heads. A Hotop bike is squeaky clean in its design, absolutely straightforward in its functionality and most importantly built to ride. ■

making those bikes what they are can be found in the FatBook. Take a look to see what’s available.

With the Front Motor Mount Limiter, customers running big-inch motors can restrict movement of the engine in the motorcycle frame.

CLUTCH KITS

Clutches for Touring Upgrades for the Big FLs

A

Touring-model Harley-Davidson can put as much demand on its clutch as some race bikes. Load down that FL and put two riders in the saddle and the need for a strong, slip-free clutch can show up fast. Hook on a trailer and the need becomes almost mandatory. Barnett has a solution – a direct-fit Clutch Kit Upgrade or the swap to a Scorpion Low-Profile Lock-Up. All the FLs are covered here, the latest 2017 models.

Barnett offers both a direct-fit Clutch Kit Upgrade or its popular Scorpion Low-Profile Lock-Up clutch for Harley-Davidson Touring models.

For more oil flow, longer life, slip-free performance and smooth operation, they all feature segmented Kevlar friction plates with increased surface area, tempered steel drive plates and heavy duty springs. Everything is made in-house and quality checked for exact stack height prior to packaging. Barnett also has direct-fit kits for Harley CVO/SE models, bikes using the assist-and-slip clutch.

fit under a stock cover, it’ll solve any clutch concerns an FL rider might have. The surface area and capacity are greatly increased, and the faster it turns the harder it grips. There are cable and hydraulic versions available, and anyone wanting to show all this off can do it with a Scorpion Series Clear Derby Cover. ■

hether it’s a tail-dragging custom with a big-inch engine or Bagger that needs strength and dependability, that bikes needs a premium clutch, primary drive and brakes. Big bikes like that demand a lot, and Belt Drives, LTD and their sister company, GMA, have the products that fit the bill.

When it comes to upgrading a Bagger’s brakes, check out GMA’s powerful 4-piston calipers. BDL has a wide range of open and closed beltdrive primary conversions for FL models.

With BDL, there is a whole assortment of performance clutches, as well as open and closed belt-drive primary conversions for FL models. All of them are major upgrades from OE. The closed systems are designed for an easy bolt-in installation. BDL designed everything — the baskets, steels, Kevlar frictions and polished pressure plates – to fit right into place. When it comes to open-drive systems, a new 2-inch belt system is especially appealing. Designed for Baggers, it comes with one of BDL’s many Ball Bearing Lock Up Clutches. There are also a whole assortment of final-drive belts in various widths and lengths. On the braking side of things, GMA has more FL upgrades. There are powerful, strong-stopping four-piston calipers

for both single- and dual-disc applications. There are calipers with smooth or classic designs. There is even a conversion kit to upgrade golden oldie OE drum brakes to dual-disc systems. mall details can make a big difference in a high-performance engine as any builder or gearhead knows. Piston coating technology is one of those details, and Wiseco offers specialized piston coatings for off-the-shelf applications to provide better performance, longevity and power. ArmorGlide® and ArmorPlating™ are two proprietary coatings that set the standard for Wiseco’s high-performance piston technology. According to Wiseco, the company was the first to offer a permanent skirt coating to enhance performance on a stock piston. The company’s ArmorGlide skirt coating works as a lubricant to reduce friction while increasing piston efficiency and horsepower. All Twin Cam applications carried by Drag Specialties feature ArmorGlide. Wiseco’s unique ArmorPlating coating covers the entire piston — with the exception of the skirt — to protect against detonation and to improve ring seal and pin bore wear. ArmorPlating is available on many of the Twin Cam pistons available from Drag Specialties.

Wiseco’s specialized ArmorGlide and ArmorPlating piston coatings provide better performance, longevity and power over stock pistons.

The technology behind Wiseco’s pistons, from their design to their coatings, make them an ideal choice for your customers who want to get maximum power gains from their engines. Each forged aluminum piston is manufactured to strict standards, ensuring greater operating strength and lower expansion at high temperatures. Wiseco piston kits from Drag Specialties include the pistons with ArmorGlide coated skirts, rings, retainer clips and chrome piston pins. Fast Functions

New Features for the Fuelpak FP3

W

hen Vance & Hines designed its revolutionary Fuelpak FP3, the company made sure to pack its high-tech fuel-management solution with all the functions and features your Harley-Davidson riding customers could want. The company’s R&D team also made it a point to ensure that the FP3 could be regularly updated to work with such things as new aftermarket exhausts, air cleaner systems, cam upgrades, even newly built motors. Take a look at how the FP3 can really unlock the full potential of that new Milwaukee Eight engine. Since the initial release of the Fuelpak FP3, Vance & Hines has released updates that include the ability to use the FP3 to recalibrate a speedometer to work with new tires or aftermarket wheels, to help monitor fuel economy, and to read and cancel out trouble codes. Not content with keeping it as is, Vance & Hines is always striving to make the FP3 better.

JUNE 2017

Vance & Hines has updated its Fuelpak FP3 to now display an odometer and a trip meter to its View Sensor Data screen.

Well, the company has done it once again, this time updating the smart-phone enabled FP3 to now display an odometer and a trip meter to its View Sensor Data screen. Now your customers can monitor their mileage, just as they can view speed, rpm, cylinder head temperature, voltage, gear selection and other vital information. This is in addition to being to view the current power/torque output of their engines — much like when a bike is on a dyno.

Another new update allows users to share their Fuelpak FP3 fuel maps with other users via email or text. This includes those custom maps built by your technicians, or even by your customers, as well as the more than 3,000 maps that Vance & Hines makes available. There are maps for every single exhaust system the company makes in addition to maps that will work with other aftermarket pipes. All of these functions are easily controlled and/or monitored through an iPhone or Android smartphone via Bluetooth. Customers can even troubleshoot existing

maps through the phone app, and by working directly with Vance & Hines technicians. Once that troublesome map is sorted, the user simply has to flash the new map into the bike, fire it up and hit the road. Another great feature the FP3 will address is that common complaint among customers who install aftermarket exhaust systems — decel popping. Those annoying deceleration pops can range from a small firecracker sound to large bangs, depending on the configuration. With the FP3, the user can now select from three different decel-pop reduction levels to help fix that sometimes-unsettling sound.

VANCE & HINES

Customers using the FP3 can now share fuel maps with other users via email or text. This includes custom-built maps as well as the more than 3,000 maps Vance & Hines has available.

So, with the addition of the odometer and trip meter to the View Sensor Data screen, and the feature that allows users to easily share maps, Vance & Hines has upped the ante with Fuelpak FP3. The company calls it a straightforward and cost-effective fuel management device for customtailored mapping on Delphi equipped Harley-Davidson motorcycles. ■
