OVER 53,000 SQUARE FEET OF EXHIBIT SPACE NEW PRODUCTS EXPO DISCOUNTS DEALER TRAINING MEET & GREET/ BIKE SHOW Madison, WI | Monona Terrace AUGUST 19-20, 2023 NORTH AMERICAN 2023 NORTH AMERICAN 2023 PARTS UNLIMITED, DRAG SPECIALTIES & PARTS CANADA PRESENT Save the Date Save the Date
NVP…Then And Now
This year’s 30th anniversary celebration of our magazine production continues. In this issue we offer a look, not only at the upcoming 2023 LeMans North American NVP, but also how it was back in 2010 when the very same event was held at the Monona Terrace Convention Center in Madison.
Just like in 2010, the long-running NVP continues to serve the motorcycle and related powersports industry at the beginning of a new year. The calendars may say the new year starts on January 1st, but because of manufacturer’s lead-times, plus Drag Specialties getting the sales team educated and filling the shelves at all the warehouses, August really is the best time be saying “Happy New Year!” We hope to see you in Madison.
Something that won’t be the same as in 2010 is that even though the sales rep training early in the week and the dealer show on Sunday were held back then in Madison, a dealer Open House was held at the warehouse down in Janesville. There was a lot of travel involved to get everyone transported up and back and eventually it was decided that it would work best to have 100% of the activities in Madison, as it will be this year.
Another big difference is that this will be the first LeMans NVP in Madison since the founder, Fred Fox passed away last February. LeMans Chairman of the Board Paul Langley and President Mike Collins both made presentations at the Louisville NVP last Spring and will do so again in Madison to address important topics for the Drag dealers, vendors, and sales reps.
Of course, it will never be quite the same without Fred. One bit of good news I can share is that as we were going to press, we received our first advance copies of the Fred Fox biography that I researched, wrote, and published. It was nearly two years in the making, dating back before we lost Fred. That one-on-one time with him allowed me to document his personal memories of those early years of his life. He shared his recollections of working in the Fox family business making truck bed bodies for Wisconsin dairy farmers, his college years at UW Madison, and designing the first Fox go-karts, mini-bikes, and snowmobiles. That all led to him going on his own in 1967 and starting the distributing business at his house in Janesville. He was the only employee. The 324-page hardbound book includes stories and photos about all that, as well as countless highlights of the years to follow until the day he retired in 2021. What an amazing business Fred created. He used to say that LeMans Corporation was like a big machine, and he looked at all of the many elements like the working parts. He was, at one time or another, hands-on designing or developing the many different parts of that “machine,” which is now the largest privately-owned powersports distribution company in the world.
For those of you interested in obtaining a copy of the book, we are handling sales of the book for LeMans on our website at EmdeBooks.com. It’s a great American success story that I was very honored to be asked to write and publish. I hope you enjoy it. ■

UNLIMITED. THE FRED FOX STORY
After almost two years of research, writing and production, the Fred Fox biography has finally been printed and is available from EmdeBooks.com. Unlimited. The Fred Fox Story is a hardbound, 324-page book with 700+ images and photos that provides an in-depth look at the life of Fred Fox; a pioneer, innovator, and leader of the modern era of powersports product distribution.
Fred was the only employee in 1967 when he started Parts Unlimited at his house in Janesville, Wisconsin. Later incorporated as LeMans Corporation, the motorcycle, snowmobile and related powersports distribution business grew continually through the years with industry-leading shipping technology from well-stocked warehouses throughout the United States, plus Canada and Germany. Fred also built up the business by purchasing some well-known companies and brands through the years, including Drag Specialties, Torsten Hallman Racing and others.
By Don Emde
Fred Fox retired from full-time business activities in the fall of 2021. LeMans Corporation continues to be the largest privately-owned powersports distributing company in the world. He passed away in February of 2023.

Mission King of the Baggers –
Wyman in Control
Brian J. Nelson photos
After six races and three rounds of the 2023 Mission King of the Bagger Championship, Harley-Davidson is leading 5-1 in its storied battle with Indian Motorcycle. And, that one win by Roland Sands Design/Indian rider Bobby Fong was a sight to see. Don’t count anyone out though, there’s still plenty of racing left on the sevenround, 14-race schedule.
Back in early June, the Motor Company charged into Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin with its unblemished string of wins and Harley factory rider Kyle Wyman promptly added to it with his

fourth Mission King of the Baggers win in a row during the first race of the weekend. He did so in front of that home-state Harley-Davidson crowd after passing Indian rider Tyler O’Hara on the last lap to score the victory.
At the finish line, Wyman was .567 of a second ahead of O’Hara, who in turn was 1.5 seconds ahead of Vance & Hines/Harley-Davidson’s James Rispoli.
“I definitely planned to get him between (turns) seven and eight, but he made a bigger mistake than I had seen on the last few laps,” Wyman said. “So, the door opened quite a bit earlier. He tried to brake me back into eight, but he was going to be super late. Luckily, I was able to slow the thing and square him up and get back past him.”
With a Moto America record three-day crowd of 41,000 spectators on hand at Road America on Sunday, the five support classes of the MotoAmerica Championship were on center stage – with Mission King of the Baggers Championship right in the thick of it – and they didn’t disappoint.
On that second day of racing, few people predicted that one rider would simply ride off in the distance and leave the rest to fight for second place. However, that’s what happened on Sunday as Roland Sands Designs/Indian’s Fong annihilated the rest of the Mission King of The Baggers field, winning by 5.7 seconds.

Roland Sands Design/Indian rider Bobby Fong (#50) completely dominated the Mission King of the Baggers race at Road America on Sunday.
After some brief trouble in the warm-up lap, he got a great start and simply pulled away. In Fong’s wake was a full-on war with James Rispoli, Kyle Wyman, Hayden Gillim and Jeremy McWilliams brawling over the remaining podium spots. The runner-up spot ended up going to Rispoli over Wyman by just .010 of a second.
“It’s been a roller coaster of a year, but we’ve shown some glimpses of hope here and there and had some bad luck, but that’s part of racing,” Fong said. “I’ve dealt with worse in the past. I’m just thankful to be up here today.”
With Wyman’s four wins, he leads the way with 116 points, and Rispoli is sitting in second, 13 points behind at 103. Holding up in third is Harley rider Gillim with 89 points. Rounding out the top five are Indian riders O’Hara and Fong, with 81 and 63 points respectively.
The Mission King of the Baggers are back in action at the WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey, California July 7-9. Later in July, the whole show moves to the Brainerd International Raceway in Minnesota. ■

Rally at Exit 55
VISIT WITH DRAG SPECIALTIES AT STURGIS
For events that have been around as long as the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, traditions are a big part of the appeal. When riders show up for this year’s 83rd rally in August, they’ll be looking forward to the traditional hangouts, activities, people and shows that make every Sturgis so memorable.
Drag Specialties is proud to be a part of those traditions. Riders know they can head to Black Hills Harley-Davidson to find Drag Specialties set up there every year, along with a huge number of Drag vendors.
Known as The Rally at Exit 55, Black Hills Harley-Davidson is hosting their annual massive event that will give riders plenty to see and buy. As usual, the Drag Event Truck will be set up in the parking lot, letting customers get an up-close look at a collection of customized bikes plus products available exclusively through Drag.
Drag reps will be on hand from all over the country to talk to riders and help them get inspired about all the aftermarket parts, accessories and gear possibilities. And “all over the country” is no exaggeration – reps from Florida all the way to Washington will be there.
Once riders have gotten some inspiration at the Drag Event Truck, they can head out to one of the many vendors who have teamed up for the event. In addition to sales, most of the vendors will be offering on-site installations, too, so riders can roll out with brand new parts.
Among the many vendors at The Rally at Exit 55 will be helmet and apparel companies like Z1R and ICON. Performance products from brands like S&S Cycle, Rekluse, Vance and Hines, Legend Suspensions and Fueling will give riders an extra boost on their way home from Sturgis. Anyone who wants to upgrade their bike’s look can visit Figurati Designs, Saddlemen, Klock Werks, Khrome Werks or Wild Ass Seats.
In addition to showing off custom bikes, Drag will also have its customized 2007 XL1200 N Sportster on display. This bike is special because one lucky rider will be going home with it at the end of the year. Attendees at Drag-supported events can enter to win the bike, and the drawing will be held in November.
The Rally at Exit 55 will be in full force from August 2 to 12, so anyone attending Sturgis can stop by to see the Drag Specialties display and get inspired by all the Drag vendors on site. After all, it’s tradition. ■

YEARS AND GROWING
A MILESTONE FOR A HELMET AND APPAREL BRAND
This year, Z1R is celebrating its 25th anniversary. The helmet and apparel brand has evolved a lot in the past quarter of a century, and things look very different today than they did back in 1998.
When Z1R launched its first products, the lineup was focused on black leather jackets, vests and chaps. Jackets were definitely the biggest offering, with styles like the Pilot, Speed, Bomber, Cruiser, and Police.
That last option, the Police jacket, was available in sizes and styling for men, women and kids. While there are a lot of things that have changed about Z1R since its inception, the company has always recognized the importance of providing options for riders of all shapes, sizes and ages. That way, the entire family can enjoy riding together. These days, Z1R offers helmets in youth sizes, letting the little ones enjoy some of the same great graphics and styles as the grownups.
Z1R kept things simple when their first anniversary rolled around in 1999, and the list of available products wasn’t all that different from its initial range. By 2000, though, Z1R was really beginning to expand, including offering more casual apparel with a particular focus on women’s styles. Yes, you
could order a halter top and shorts to go with that leather jacket and chaps!
The real leap in Z1R’s evolution came in 2001, when the company released its first helmets. The full-face Stance helmet was available in eight colors, and Z1R followed up its debut helmet with the three-quarter Jimmy helmet and the Drifter half helmet. Suddenly, Z1R wasn’t “just” a company making leather apparel, but a full-line helmet and apparel brand.
Another significant shift in 2001 was that Z1R expanded beyond the street market for the first time. The introduction of a snow helmet, available in six different colors, showed that Z1R had plans for conquering more than just the Cruiser segment.
Over the next few years, Z1R continued to increase its helmet lineup, adding new styles each year as well as introducing new colorways and graphics options. In 2003, Z1R made its first appearance in the off-road market. The Roost and Youth Roost off-road helmets were both offered in five colors—not only could parents and kids ride together, but they could be perfectly matched while they did it, too.
20 DRAG SPECIALTIES MAGAZINE ★ AUGUST 2023 PRODUCT SHOWCASE
COMPANY ANNIVERSARY
As these product stories from 2006 and 2007 show, Z1R’s helmet lineup continued to grow and evolve as the company moved into new riding segments and helmet styles.
The first major milestone Z1R hit was its 10th anniversary in 2008. By then, the street lineup included nine helmet designs in a huge range of colors and graphics. There were three off-road helmets for adults as well as two youth versions, and the six helmets in the snow selection included Z1R’s first modular helmet. In just one decade, Z1R had gone from a producer of leather street apparel with just 14 products to a robust brand with products in the street, off-road and snow segments.
It was also around this time that Z1R was able to really showcase their products thanks to three of the fastest riders around. Z1R sponsored Laura Klock and her two teenage daughters, Erika and Karlee, as they set some class speed records at the Bonneville Salt Flats.
In addition to growing into different segments of powersports, Z1R also grew its available selection of items. From leather jackets and chaps in the apparel department, Z1R has expanded to offer gloves, footwear, rain gear and textile and denim
jackets and vests. Riders can outfit themselves from head to toe with just one brand.
Today, Z1R continues to offer helmets in a variety of styles to suit every rider. The hot sellers include a full-face modular helmet, a three-quarter helmet and a half helmet.
The Solaris modular helmet has been popular since its debut thanks to its versatile design. In addition to being modular, it also has an internal drop-down sun visor to make swapping between day and night riding as easy as flicking a switch.
The Road Maxx three-quarter helmet also features a drop-down sun visor, so it pairs with the helmet’s scratchresistant polycarbonate shield to make it easy to ride in changing lighting conditions. An exhaust vent on the top of the Road Maxx helps regulate temperature, so heads stay cool on those hot days.
In the half helmet category, the Vagrant is available in a variety of solid colors and graphics. The drop-down sun visor combats the sun while integrating perfectly with the look of the helmet. Designed for a secure, comfortable fit, the Vagrant is a popular choice with V-Twin riders. ■

RIGHT: The December 2010 issue of Drag Specialties Magazine featured a 6-page report on the V-twin activities at the 2010 LeMans NVP.
LEFT: As he did for many years, founder Fred Fox gave a kind of “LeMans State of the Union” address to the LeMans sales force and again to the participating vendors at the NVP.
For most people, 2011 began on January 1st. But for those dealers and vendors doing business with LeMans Corporation, it really began on August 17, 2010, at the Monona Terrace Convention Center in Madison, Wisconsin. It was there that the entire LeMans sales force for Parts Unlimited and Drag Specialties got their first look at the new products for 2011.
The appropriately named event was the “NVP,” which stands for National Vendor Presentations.” The format for the event was for the Parts and Drag sales reps to each break into smaller groups from their various regions. For three days they followed a pre-set schedule of vendor seminars to
learn the features and benefits of the many new products they would be selling in the months to come.
Following a “Meet & Greet” open house for dealers on Saturday night at the LeMans warehouse in Janesville, the entire group of dealers, sales reps and vendors were back at the Monona Terrace on Sunday for a full-scale dealer trade show. In the years ahead, 100% of the NVP activities would be held in Madison.
In all, it was a five-day event to kick off the 2011 selling season. Following a break during the Covid pandemic, the long running event continues again in 2023. ■

The Drag Specialties semi-truck made an impressive welcome to the attending dealers, sales reps and vendors who traveled south to the warehouse for the Dealer Open House on Saturday.
Most of the sales reps had some of their dealer accounts attend the Open House, which gave them an opportunity to show them in person the type of impressive facilities Lemans had.

The day after the Open House, everyone was back at the Monona Terrace in Madison for a one-day dealer show. That has since expanded to two days.

Drag Specialties’ tagline, “From Our Garage to Yours” comes alive each time a bike builder is commissioned by the company to customize a stock Harley-Davidson for promotional purposes by the world’s largest V-Twin aftermarket parts distributor. There’s also a stipulation for the build – the parts and components used must be gathered directly from Drag Specialties’ iconic catalog, the FatBook — the same catalog used by thousands of Drag Specialties dealers the world over.
The purpose and goal for these project bikes is to create a rolling platform showcasing the myriad of aftermarket parts available to V-Twin owners wanting to make their bikes stand out. Always at the ready for any custom project a customer has is Drag Specialties’ iconic FatBook – a catalog loaded with high-octane custom parts and accessories ready and waiting for that special build.
Those Drag Specialties FatBook Bikes are built to spotlight what can be done with over-the-counter custom bike parts. The most recent example of a FatBook Bike is the black 2021 FLHXS Street Glide that’s currently making the rounds with the 2023 Dealer Training Tour. The black FLHXS was customized by the team at Suburban Motors in Thiensville, Wisconsin, where more than a dozen FatBook Bikes have, so far, originated during the past few years. Suburban Motors’ service manager, Joe Houpt, says that he considers the bikes they’ve customized as “real world bikes,” meaning there are no fabricated components or one-off styling features involved; just parts right from the FatBook or OldBook, and sometimes both.
As Rob Bluma, Drag Specialties Regional Sales Manager who helps select the bikes for the builds, points out, “Anyone with proper tools and access to the FatBook can build one of these bikes. These are not dream builds, they’re real-world builds.” This project began life as a low-mileage FLHXS plucked from Suburban Motors’ pre-owned motorcycle lot. Once selected, Houpt, with help from the dealership’s seasoned tech known as Tater, gathered the parts for the bike. While the goal is always as to showcase those FatBook parts, the exercise also creates an opportunity to showcase products new to the catalog and to Drag dealers.
“Obviously we use many existing products for these builds such as the Legend Suspension 49mm Front Suspension Kit,” Bluma says. “But, we also include new products that are featured for the first time in the FatBook. Among the all-new products are the Arlen Ness Inverted Fork Legs, matched with the Legend kit.”

The red Klock Werks' tinted Flare Windshield catch your eye? That's by design. It's a great pop of color on a classical understated bike.
FATBOOK BIKE: 2021 FLHXS STREET GLIDE
Houpt added: “We try to spread as many new parts as we can, plus we select from vendors who participate in the Dealer Training Tour.” For instance, a long list of lighting products from Custom Dynamics helped fill the Street Glide’s build sheet leading to this year’s Dealer Training Tour. In fact, 18 Custom Dynamics part numbers are listed on the build sheet, including existing and new products.
Bluma said the bike served as a suitable platform to debut Klock Werks’ new tinted Flare Windshields, in a striking red color that people will really notice. “We purposely put it on the bike,” says Bluma. “Whether or not it’s the proper color mix doesn’t matter. We just wanted everybody to notice Klock Werks’ new tinted windshields.”
Vance & Hines has its new brushed stainless steel 1Hi Output 2-into-1 exhaust system in the mix, as well as its 2VO2 Stainless Falcon Air Cleaner. Rough Crafts new finned M8 rocker covers are also part of that “new parts” list, as is the company’s new Chrome Cam Cover.
Arlen Ness Enterprises’ new Ness Mid Controls Kit are sure to garner much attention from the bike crowd. Ditto for the new Ness forged billet wheels and red front brake calipers. The list goes on, but perhaps the best way to enjoy and appreciate what this FatBook Bike has to offer is to view it in real time. Look for it on the Drag Dealer Training Tour, at Sturgis and at the Madison NVP. Chances are it will also be part of Drag Specialties’ open-air display at House of Harley-Davidson during Harley’s 120th Homecoming celebration. It’s the perfect example of that Drag promise going back to 1968 – From Our Garage to Yours. ■

Components for the Classics Engine Repairs with the OldBook
Ask anyone who has been riding for a long time, and they’re bound to have a story about an older bike. Maybe it was their first motorcycle, or that classic they had wanted for years and finally got to buy. Or the memory could be about a beatup old bike that they found in a shed and turned into a show-stopping custom.
Whatever the story is, we all know there’s something special about old bikes. The Drag Specialties OldBook makes it easy to keep those Evo Big Twins, Flatheads, Ironhead Sportsters, Knuckleheads, Panheads, and Shovels up and running.
Making a parts list for motor repairs and rebuilds on one of these old bikes should be a breeze. You don’t need to search through multiple catalogs or hunt high and low for the right fitment. The OldBook has it all, and all of it is from
name brand suppliers, which means dealers can trust that they’re getting quality components.
The engine section of the OldBook has whatever you need to get that engine running smooth, from the biggest components, like engine cases and top end kits, to the smallest little details, including spacers, pistons, cylinders, valve guides, tappets, cams, bushings, oil pumps and all the rest.
The OldBook also makes it easy to give an older bike a big performance upgrade if you want to take things beyond stock. Items like performance pistons and cams as well as big bore kits can help elevate things in the power department. There are complete engines available, too, making it easy to do a motor swap or build a custom bike from the ground up.
Aesthetics haven’t been forgotten, either. All those external engine components are available in different styles or with various finishes to make engines look as good as they perform. Chrome, natural, gloss black, matte black, contrast cut – whatever you’re looking for, you can find it in the OldBook.
Getting a bike to run better than ever goes beyond the engine alone, so be sure to check out all the possibilities the OldBook offers for exhausts, mufflers and the fuel system itself. Whether you’re doing a few small modifications or completely transforming a bike, the OldBook will have the parts for it, right down to the bolts. ■

Updated Indian Catalog
Big Range of New Parts and Accessories
Take a quick look through the 2023 Parts & Accessories for Indian Motorcycles catalog, and you’ll notice that there is a lot of blue ink within its pages. Drag dealers already know that if a part number is printed in blue, then it is a new addition to the catalog. What you might not have realized, though, is just how many new part numbers there are in this year’s Indian Catalog.
This is good news for Indian dealers and riders alike. Dealers are reporting an uptick in sales for Indian models, as well as an increase in the aftermarket parts and accessories built for those models. So, not only are there more parts available than ever before, but there are more of them selling, too.
Indian’s rich racing heritage is reflected in the 2023 Indian catalog cover bike, a 2015 Indian Scout built by 2 Boss Performance to look like a classic flat tracker. Of course, Indians have also been spotted tearing it up on roadracing tracks across the U.S., thanks to the rise of Bagger racing. That’s in addition to their absolute dominance in American Flat Track racing the past few years.
The Bagger Racing League has proven to be a great way to showcase what Indians are capable of as the classic Indian versus Harley-Davidson battle plays out. More than a century after the first Indian was raced (120 years, to be exact), the brand still keeps fans on the edge of their seats, and the “win on Sunday, sell on Monday” sales tactic is in full effect. Seeing Baggers racing side-by-side on the track is helping drive fans from the grandstands to the dealer.
New products and updated fitments abound in the 2023 Indian catalog, but several categories have really received a big boost this year. It is easier than ever to increase performance thanks to a slew of new fuel controllers, exhausts, mufflers, air filters and other engine components.
When it comes to comfort and style, the new seats and backrests in the catalog give riders plenty of options, whether they need a comfortable touring setup or simply a great-looking seat that will turn heads. And speaking of touring, there are a lot of new luggage racks to choose from, too. ■

2023 Bagger Racing League Rounds
1 and 2
DRAG SPECIALTIES BATTLE OF THE BAGGERS: PITTSBURGH
Since its launch in 2021, the Drag Specialties Bagger Racing League has remained focused on racing events exclusively for the custom and performance V-Twin community. The series has since built on that wildly successful launch by offering a grassroots venue for everyone from high-level racers to amateur riders looking for a chance to get their Performance Baggers out on the racetrack.
The BRL maintains its grassroots focus, and though many of the teams have some level of sponsorship, whether by an aftermarket company or dealership, the camaraderie has the feel of privateer racing. This has been a big driving force in the popularity of the fledgling series.
Well, all those fans and riders got another taste of the action when the BRL kicked off Rounds One and Two of its 2023 season in early May at the Pittsburgh International Race Complex. The event feature the largest number of spectators so far for any BRL event, organizers said.
“We’re excited to see the culture, competition, and community of the Bagger Racing League growing at such a rapid rate,” said Rob Buydos, the mind behind Bagger racing and president of the BRL. “Heading into our third season, Bagger racing isn’t so much of a novelty sport anymore. Our goal is to always improve the scale and quality of our race events and provide everyone with an unforgettable experience.
“Judging by the line of vehicles and motorcycles waiting to get into this weekend’s race, we appear to be on the right track,” Buydos added. “It’s real pleasure to have a publication like Drag Specialties Magazine covering this event. When the dealers get this kind of first-hand information it makes it so much easier to embrace the performance market.”
The two-day event featured exciting fan experiences, both on and off the track. Along with the non-stop racing action, Drag Specialties Battle of the Baggers Pittsburgh featured a successful kick-off party at presenting sponsor New Castle Harley-Davidson, “Boonie” minibike races hosted by ICON Motorsports and also a double-feature bike show that was hosted by Pittsburgh locals Cycle Source Magazine and John O’Brien and Hardcore Cycles. The event showcased the area’s best-customized motorcycles.

as well. Josh Baird (Lloydz Garage) rode strong to take second place finish, followed by third place finisher Craig Braymiller. In ICON Lightweight Twins, Anthony Bangma won the class, riding the bike that brought him home for the first time that very day. Carson Brown with Suburban Harley-Davidson picked up the runner-up position with Jake Masters – also a Suburban Harley-Davidson rider – coming in third.
The NAMZ Bagger GP class saw two-time defending champion Shane Narbonne (Trask Performance) earn a big win, with Lloydz Garage’s Hawk Mazzotta on an Indian Challenger come in second, with Benny Carlson/Suburban Harley-Davidson in third.
Rain greeted teams on Sunday for Round Two, but it didn’t stop the action for long. Familiar names and teams from Round 1 repeated podium appearances with a few unexpected additions, confirming the premise that any team with persistence and heart can get there.
Despite the weather all the classes completed their events, albeit with fewer laps. In the Andrews ATU, Lucas Geboo won, with Robert Parker taking second place.
In the second round of the DP Brakes F/S Cup, Cory Cowan again won the class, followed by Benny Carlson in second and Josh Baird in third.
The ICON Lightweight Twins class saw Suburban HarleyDavidson Carson Brown race to victory followed by fellow Suburban rider Cody Gilmore in second place. Privateer Megan Anderson came in third.
Benny Carlson topped the stand in the NAMZ Bagger GP this round, with Jesse Janish with Feuling Parts in second and Hawk Mazzotta/Lloydz Garage in third. Carlson, riding the Sly Glide for Suburban Motors Harley-Davidson /Slyfox Performance, was pumped after his win. “The BRL is allowing companies to make and test performance parts that go from the racetrack to retail, so consumers can get a better product,” Carlson said. “Drag has been the backbone of the series, and it’s elevating the sport.”
Robbie Lane, owner of Alloy Art, said the BRL competition is unlike any other road race, and is a great way for aftermarket companies like his to not only get some exposure, but also road-test performance parts. “These are Harley industry guys. Everyone’s pitching in and sharing tools, but it’s still highly competitive. If you watch it once, you’ll be hooked,” Lane said. “It’s a form of marketing that gets our name out there and the development part has been great for our business.”
At about the time this issue mailed out to dealers, the whole BRL show will be at Blackhawk Farms Raceway, Beloit, Wisconsin for Rounds Three and Four at the Drag Specialties Battle of the Baggers Blackhawk. ■

Partners in Adventure
Co-Branded, Co-Developed Pan America Tires
Some things just work well together, like the relationship between Michelin and HarleyDavidson. The Michelin Scorcher Adventure tire is the OE tire on the Pan America, representing another great pairing.
The partnership between Michelin and Harley-Davidson began in 2008. That was when the two companies signed a historic partnership agreement that the Michelin Scorcher tires would be co-developed and co-branded as original equipment and replacement tires for many of Harley’s models.
The Michelin Scorcher tire line has been growing since then, and it includes a full tire lineup and a wide range of Harley models that are mounted with a set of Michelin Scorcher tires right off the assembly line.
So, back when Harley first announced its foray into the Adventure segment with the Pan America, it was no surprise that Michelin was along for the ride, too. The Michelin Scorcher Adventure tire, like the others in the line, was both co-developed and co-branded with Michelin. But, since Adventure riding is a big departure from the V-Twin scene, the new bike required a completely new tire.
The Michelin Scorcher Adventure tire is packed with the technology and high-tech materials one would expect from Michelin, like Michelin Bridge Block technology and Michelin 2CT+ Technology in the rear tire. This combination provides longevity and high-speed stability on the road. The fully grooved tread pattern boosts off-road traction, and silica provides excellent wet grip. In all, the tire is excellent on the road and can easily handle some light off-road riding.
A WILD CHOICE
In addition to the Michelin Scorcher tire line, Michelin has an option for Pan America riders who are looking for a true 50/50 Adventure tire. The Michelin Anakee Wild tire performs so well both on and off the road that Michelin really thinks of it as a “100/100” tire.
On the road, the Michelin Anakee Wild tire offers excellent stability and wet grip. On the trail, or where no trail exists at all, the tire provides a solid platform for climbing and tackling challenging terrain.
The shoulder-to-shoulder design and tread of the Michelin Anakee Wild tire results in precise on-road handling as well as off-road traction that is especially good for climbing out of ruts. Even soft terrain is no problem with the scoop-shaped staggered tread blocks.
Learn more about Michelin’s Adventure tires and access all Michelin training and product assets on the Michelin Two-Wheel Dealer Engagement site: https://dealer.two-wheel.michelinman.com. ■

Wash, Lube, Ride, Repeat!
Everything Needed to Keep that V-Twin Spiffy
Road grime may be a badge of honor at the end of a road trip, but everyone knows a clean bike looks better. Your customers can freshen up their V-Twins with a hose, a little elbow grease and these effective cleaning and bike-care products from Maxima Racing Oils.
BIO WASH
Bio-Wash is a unique, 100 percent biodegradable allpurpose cleaner that lifts away dirt and dissolves grime and oil-based deposits. It’s tough on dirt, yet gentle on a bike’s finishes and won’t damage OEM or custom paint, chrome, polished surfaces, or plastic. Spray Bio Wash on, let it soak for a few minutes, and then hit it with a hose to rinse off the crud that all bikes collect as they roll down the road.
CLEANUP
For truly stubborn grime like engine oil that’s been baked onto the bottom of the cases or chain lube that’s been flung onto the swingarm, there’s CleanUp. The 15.5-ounce aerosol can is like having a handheld power washer, yet the special formula is gentle on metal, plastics, and of course, a chain’s O-rings. CleanUp is your customer’s best bet for banishing grime, and works great on anything that’s dirty.
MPPL
Post wash, there’s often water lingering in places where it could cause corrosion. That’s where Multi-Purpose Penetrating Lube comes in. This stuff is great for displacing moisture and shielding metal against rust and corrosion. Use it on the chain, swingarm pivot, floorboard pivots, or
anywhere else water can hide. MPPL’s penetrating nature also makes it great for stubborn nuts and bolts and other stuck parts.
CHAIN WAX
Your customers’ drivetrains are one of the first parts of the bike to get grimy on the road, but they can reduce crud buildup by using the right chain lube. Maxima’s Chain Wax coats links to provide a durable and effective layer of protection that won’t fling off. Chain Wax is highly water repellant and clean running in dry, dirty environments, making it a great lube for mixed conditions.
SC1
The original and unrivaled “New Bike in a Can,” SC1 is the final step in sprucing up your customers’ rides. It restores that factory shine and helps repel dirt and grime so bikes stay clean longer. SC1 High Gloss Coating is specifically formulated to protect surfaces including plastic, vinyl, rubber and carbon fiber.
MATTE FINISH CLEANER
Finally, Maxima has its Matte Finish Cleaner for those hard-to-clean surfaces like Harley-Davidson’s Denim paint and the matte paint that’s popular on helmets. Matte Finish Cleaner features a special blend of surfactants and detergents that lift away solids without sticking to the surface, leaving the finish looking clean and even. ■

Billet Beauty High Style and Improved Performance
Some folks say it’s what’s inside that counts, and while there’s certainly some truth to that, what’s on the outside is important, too! Especially when we’re talking Harley-Davidsons, which your customers work hard to customize and improve. For that effort riders have a good partner in Performance Machine, an American company that’s been pioneering premium components for V-Twins since 1970. Even after a half century of invention, Performance Machine is still innovating, and offers the Race Series engine covers for the Milwaukee-Eight powerplant.
The Milwaukee Eight powerplant is technologically sophisticated and one heck of a way to turn gasoline into forward motion, so why not adorn it with some more sophisticated covers? From the rocker box covers up top to the transmission, derby, clutch and cam cover down low, your customers can opt for high style with the PM’s new Race Series line of components.
The Race Series covers are carefully crafted with the utmost precision, machined from solid blocks of billet aluminum in Performance Machine’s own machine shops. Painstaking hours went into developing shapes that not only complement the Milwaukee-Eight’s architecture, but also help dissipate heat. After all, the majority of the energy in gasoline is released as heat, and it’s got to go somewhere. And, for anyone modifying their engine to make more power or ham mering down on the throttle, there’s even more heat on hand to deal with.
By carefully selecting the material, material thickness, edge designs and surface finish, Performance Machine’s engineers were able to create incredibly attractive engine cov ers that also help transmit heat away from the engine. Style and function is the PM way, and these Race Series covers fully embrace both concepts.
Engine cylinders are finned to create more surface area for heat to dissipate from, and the same concept has been applied to the Race Series covers. The covers’ design utilizes extra faces and facets to boost heat-dissipating surface area, and all of the Race Series parts feature micro ridges that drastically increase air exposure for expedited cooling.
Beyond their functional benefits, the Race Series covers look fantastic, and will help your customers’ Harleys stand out from the rest. The Race Series covers feature a matte Black Ops finish and are available for the Milwaukee-Eight’s rocker boxes, transmission, clutch, and camshaft access points. The parts also come with chrome hardware and a replacement gasket. ■

The Dark Side of Shiny An Exhaust Gets a New Finish
cap to punctuate the sleek look of the muffler.
Looks are always important, but the Sidewinder exhaust is also about performance. A Touring bike fitted with one of these will have improved power and torque. When M8 Touring models are already so much more performance-minded than their predecessors, it makes sense to mount an exhaust that is designed with power in mind. The Sidewinder comes equipped with a removable dB reducer baffle, so riders can tune the system for both sound and backpressure. Included adapters allow the use of wide-band or stock O2 sensors, too. And, as one would expect from an S&S Cycle exhaust, the Sidewinder produces a deep exhaust note that adds to its appeal. In all, the Sidewinder hits all the points for an exhaust: performance, style and sound. Having a Lava Chrome option just takes the package up a notch.
S&S Cycle produces the Sidewinder and all its other exhausts in the USA, so M8 Touring riders can feel good about putting an American-made exhaust on their American-made Harley. In addition to the Lava Chrome finish, the Sidewinder exhaust is also available in chrome or black ceramic.
When it comes to exhausts, why choose between the black and chrome finishes?
S&S Cycle has recently launched a new finish that blends the best of both, and it’s now an option for the Sidewinder 2-into-1 exhaust for Harley-Davidson Milwaukee-Eight Touring models.
The new finish is called Lava Chrome. It takes the mirror finish of traditional chrome and adds a smoky hue to it. The result is a darker color that still has a brilliant, reflective quality.
The Sidewinder 2-into-1 exhaust features a stainless steel header that merges into a highly engineered collector, and it’s all topped off with a 4½-inch muffler. The Lava Chrome finish comes with a black machined aluminum end
Lava Chrome has been in the works at S&S Cycle for a while. The team there wanted to get the right color and shine, but they also wanted to make sure the finish was durable. They experimented with dark chrome formulas until landing on the one that is now on the Sidewinder exhaust.
Not surprisingly, the Lava Chrome finish has made its way onto more S&S Cycle products than just the sidewinder. The company has already released Lava Chrome versions of the Teardrop and Mini Teardrop air cleaners.
Dealers who want to check out the Lava Chrome finish for themselves should stop by the S&S Cycle booth at NVP Madison, where there will be a display of products with the new finish. ■

Low Rider ST
Located in the motorcycle industry’s backyard, Born Free has become one of the country’s iconic custom motorcycle shows The show is known for sticking to the roots of custom building and maintaining a laid-back atmosphere dedicated to riding and all things motorcycle. Celebrating its 14th year, the original Born Free show remains where it all started in Orange County, California, not too far down the freeway from THRASHIN Supply Company.
While THRASHIN is a company that produces Americanmade goods for Harley-Davidsons and their riders, Born Free and THRASHIN are driven by the same passion and love for all things motorcycles. Now approaching its 10th anniversary, THRASHIN has quickly grown into a wellrecognized brand that’s dedicated to supplying fellow riders with products that fuel their riding fire and style.
In fact, Harley-Davidson recognized the brand by tasking the team at THRASHIN to build a bike for Harley’s 120th anniversary homecoming to display at the recently held 2023 Born Free show. On top of that, the Motor Company gave them free rein to choose the platform and direction of the build.
Naturally, THRASHIN accepted without hesitation and got to planning. Ultimately, the decision was made to go with a Low Rider ST, an uber popular custom platform as apparent in the huge number builds seen across social media and magazine pages. The inspiration for the direction
of the build came from the THRASHIN crew visiting a King of the Baggers race, noticing the careful, trick design of parts and modifications made for improved performance.
Planning continued with THRASHIN outlining how it would make its new Low Rider ST live up to the THRASHIN mantra of lighter, faster, stronger. For this crew, this isn’t just a one-and-done process; the build served as a research-and-development test-bed for new products that are now offered for Harley

PARTS & ACCESSORIES
Harley-Davidson tasked the team at THRASHIN to build a bike for Harley’s 120th anniversary homecoming to display at the recently held 2023 Born Free show. They came through with a custom Performance Bagger that’ll be turning heads wherever it goes.
The controls and handling of the motorcycle were adapted for high-performance comfort. THRASHIN mid-bend handlebars are mounted to a set of 6.5 pullback risers and top clamp. There’s also a THRASHIN gauge relocation unit, which features a carbon fiber backing and aluminum bezel.
The ST features THRASHIN P-54 Softail foot pegs. The P-54 pegs have a wide, tapered platform with a grip surface to maintain a steady foot position when shifting and braking.
Moving to foot controls, a THRASHIN shift lever with adjustable shift linkage sits in front of a pair of THRASHIN
Beginning up front, the controls and handling of this motorcycle were adapted for high-performance comfort. THRASHIN mid-bend handlebars are mounted to a set of THRASHIN 6.5 pullback risers and top clamp. THRASHIN handlebars are carefully designed and built with strategic rise, width and sweep dimensions to deliver the handling control promised. The mid bend bars on the Low Rider ST are drilled and slotted for internal wiring, have throttleby-wire keyholes, and feature a sleek, black powder coated finish.
Risers and clamps are a long-standing product from THRASHIN and represent its commitment to USA-made quality and customization versatility for customers. The 6.5-inch pullback risers on the Low Rider ST, like all THRASHIN’s risers, are precision CNC-machined from 6061 aluminum for optimized strength and available in triple chrome or hard-anodized black finishes. To help keep an eye on the Harley’s vitals with this new setup, THRASHIN also mounted up its gauge relocation unit. With a carbon fiber backing and aluminum bezel, this relocator accommodates the OEM Harley 4-inch gauge for easy rider viewing. THRASHIN also upgraded the Lower Rider ST’s suspension and added some custom bodywork.
P-54 Softail foot pegs. The P-54 pegs’ wide, tapered platform with a grip surface help maintain a steady foot position when shifting and braking, while the shift lever and adjustable linkage offer a comfortable and in-control position for the mid controls.
THRASHIN completed this overall assembly with its shifter peg in a black anodized finish and affixed with ARP hardware. Each of these THRASHIN components are billet machined aluminum with durable finishes for reliable functionality and a look that lasts.
The upgrades for this Low Rider ST don’t stop there. This bike is rolling on special carbon fiber wheels wrapped in Pirelli Diablo Corsa tires, with upgraded braking. With all upgrades and modifications in place, this THRASHINequipped Low Rider ST pushed approximately 140 HP and 150 Ft.-Lb. in dyno testing. The final product shaved 143 pounds in weight from the Low Rider ST’s initial heft, thanks to the ingenuity and hard work from team at THRASHIN. Let your customers know that the range of billet components that went into this build are available directly from Drag Specialties. ■

Comfortable, Custom Adventure Seat Options for the Pan America
When it comes to replacing the seat on a Harley-Davidson Pan America, Saddlemen has a selection of styles as well as dynamic customization possibilities. Whether a rider simply wants a more comfortable adventure or a big style upgrade, Saddlemen provides one-stop seat shopping for Pan America riders.
Saddlemen currently has a trio of seats available for the Pan America. The Adventure Tour and Adventure Tour Low seats both have a traditional Adventure style, but they are packed with a lot more comfort than an OEM seat. Meanwhile, Saddlemen’s popular Step-Up seat is available in a Pan America fitment, giving Adventure riders the choice of a seat that is a little more aggressive looking.
The Adventure Tour and Adventure Tour Low seats feature the size, shaping and split-channel design of a traditional Adventure Touring seat. Those characteristics are combined with Saddlemen’s proprietary Saddle-Gel and Ultra-Foam inside to provide extraordinary comfort.
The Adventure Tour Low seat is the same design as the Adventure Tour seat, but it sits the rider about half an inch
lower for those who want an easier reach to the ground. Both seat styles are available with a built-in backrest for the driver, making these seats a great option for even the longest, most arduous rides.
Some riders want adventure as well as bold styling. The team at Saddlemen was surprised when Adventure riders began to request the Step-Up seat, since it was designed with freestyle enthusiasts in mind. However, it quickly became apparent that a lot of Pan America riders wanted a seat with the style and capabilities of the Step-Up, so Saddlemen complied.
The Step-Up seat sits a little lower than the Adventure Tour and Adventure Tour Low seats, and it provides a riding position that is slightly more upright. Because of its lines, the Step-Up keeps a rider firmly locked in place, which means it can easily accommodate someone who prefers a more aggressive riding style.
While the styling might be a little different than its traditional Adventure counterparts, the Step-Up is also equipped with Saddlemen’s Gel-Core Technology and Ultra-Foam, so riders can still trust that they will have

premium comfort, even when they’re pushing the limits of what their bike can do.
Saddlemen’s Gel-Core Technology features SaddleGel, which is engineered to dampen, divert and deflect energy from the road. It is surrounded by Ultra-Foam to provide the right amount of both support and compliance. Even the molding process for Ultra-Foam is notable, since it results in an outer skin on the foam. This skin provides a protective barrier that shields the foam from water and dirt, making it more durable. For Adventure-Touring riders who face dirt, mud and water on a regular basis, UltraFoam is a big advantage.
SaddleGel and Ultra-Foam combine to reduce pressure points and eliminate the hot spots that can cause discomfort, especially on long rides. When compared to a stock foam seat, a seat with Gel-Core Technology enables a rider to comfortably stay on the road up to 400 percent longer, while generating up to 92 percent less road shock and 50 percent less road vibration.
Saddlemen knows that riders want more than just comfort in a seat. Not only do Saddlemen seats for the Pan America provide style and quality, but riders can also take things one step further with the Saddlemen custom seat program.
The custom seat program allows customers to choose the color of the stitching, the material for the chassis and accent panels, the stitching style and even the color of the stitched
Saddlemen logo. Riders can also submit their own artwork – like a club logo or something that matches the theme of the bike – and have it added to their seat. All of this is extremely easy for Drag dealers to do. Each seat style has its own custom seat form, with a diagram that clearly shows which parts of the seat can be customized. The dealer simply notes the customer’s choices for each aspect and submits the form to Drag just like any other order. Once Saddlemen receives the custom seat order, the team will provide the dealer with a price before the seat is built, so the customer can give approval. When the seat is complete, it is shipped to the dealer.
Dealers at NVP in Madison can stop by the Saddlemen booth to see two Pan Americas outfitted with Saddlemen seats. It’s also a great chance to learn more about the custom seat program and all of the great possibilities for both shop and customer builds. ■

Vance & Hines as well, noting the bike’s liquid-cooled, 1250cc Revolution Max power plant.
The versatile street to off-road handling and power of the Pan America is impressive, but Vance & Hines has a keen eye to spot areas possessing potential. First and foremost, the Vance & Hines team turned its attention to exhaust, examining the stock unit and testing its own variations to land on the Adventure Hi-Output 450.
This slip-on exhaust system was designed and developed specifically for the Revolution Max 1250 engine of the Pan America. It delivers a strong increase in horsepower and torque over the bike’s OEM system, while simultaneously reducing weight and maximizing durability.
The performance increase is thanks in part to the design freeing up exhaust flow out of the engine through an iconic, Vance & Hines style 4½-inch stepped muffler. The muffler contains a proprietary baffle design that helps deliver a bold rumble, audibly reinforcing the performance. In dyno testing, Vance & Hines saw a 5HP and 5 FT-LB increase over stock through a consistent power curve.
Durability is a priority, especially when riders are charging their Pan Americas through a variety of terrain and conditions. The Adventure Hi-Output 450’s 304 stainless steel construction provides the longstanding durability needed, plus the availability of brushed or black finishes help riders achieve the sleek look they’re going for.
Even with over a century of motorcycling under its belt, Harley-Davidson still manages to surprise riders with its new models and innovations. Arguably one of the most surprising at the time was the announcement of Harley entering the Adventure touring market with the Pan America.
Harley managed to exceed expectations once riders swung a leg over the bike. As lifelong motorcycle performance professionals, the Pan America caught the attention of

Go Big An Oversized Slip-On
The phrase “go big or go home” is one the team at Bassani Xhaust took to heart for its latest slip-on mufflers. These BIG45 mufflers are the biggest ones the company has made to date for Milwaukee-Eight Baggers.
Yes it’s big, but it also packs plenty of performance and looks great. As with every Bassani exhaust, whether it’s a full system or a slip-on, these new options have those aspects covered. In addition to boosting horsepower and torque, these slip-ons provide great looks thanks to Bassani’s characteristic style.
for M8 Baggers
Both of these 4½-inch mufflers have a sleek gloss black end cap, and customers can choose a muffler body in either chrome or black. While the chrome slip-on gives a bike that great pop of shiny metal, the black slip-on has a matte finish, providing a great contrast with the end cap.
One of the things riders have come to expect from Bassani Xhaust is an aggressive sound that is guaranteed to turn heads. These mufflers are no exception. In fact, the larger baffle is specially designed to give the Bagger exhaust a great tone.
These mufflers pair perfectly with a stock M8 Bagger header or Bassani’s 2-into-2 headpipes, so installing them is a straightforward process. It’s an easy upgrade with a
big payoff, improving power, looks and sound with just one product.
An American motorcycle like the M8 Bagger deserves American products, and all Bassani exhausts and slip-ons are made in the USA from quality steel sourced from American mills. The company carefully selects the steel, and the quality shows in the performance of every Bassani product. Improved heat cycles and increased heat protection are two of the benefits of using only select steel.
Bassani is constantly releasing new fitments, finishes and styles, and the 4½-inch slip-on mufflers join a growing list of Bassani products for M8 Baggers. There are also 4-inch slip-on options in a variety of designs and finishes.
Riders who want a full system for their M8 Bagger can opt for the Road Rage 2-into-1 system, which was recently introduced in Bassani’s stunning Mercury finish. Chrome and black finishes are also available for these handwelded systems.
Bassani produces full systems and slip-ons for a wide range of Harley-Davidsons and Indians. And with the company’s rapid release of new products, you’ll want to stay up to date on all of the options available. ■

Seeing is Believing Race Tested, Street Proven
Racing machines like the V-Twins in the Bagger Racing League are able to achieve wild lean angles because they utilize high-end, welldesigned racing equipment. Bridgestone’s V02 slicks are a tire chosen by many BRL competitors, and the same ULTIMAT-EYE technology that was used to design the V02 race tire was also used to create the Battlecruise H50 road rubber your customers can put on their streetbikes. From the track to the street, Bridgestone applies cuttingedge technologies to provide a better riding experience.
V-Twin riders want good traction in the wet and dry, intuitive handling and durability for the long haul. That’s a tricky balance to strike, but the H50s do so with help from insights provided by Bridgestone’s ULTIMAT-EYE system, which was originally created to advance Formula One tires. ULTIMAT-EYE was also used extensively for MotoGP tire development, and the systems’ benefits have since trickled down to Bridgestone’s road offerings.
Think of ULTIMAT-EYE as a dynamometer for tires. It simulates the dynamic stresses of real-world riding using a massive rolling drum and a fixture that holds the test tire. The fixture can accelerate and brake the tire, add up to 60 degrees of lean angle, and hit speeds of up to 248 mph. With these variables engineers are able to replicate a variety of riding scenarios, and, with the micro-sensors embedded in the Ultimate Eye’s drum, they are able to “see” the contact patch and analyze its performance like never before.
Using the insights provided by ULTIMAT-EYE, Bridgestone built a tire specifically for the American V-Twin. The Battlecruise H50 tire provides great traction and handling on both wet and dry surfaces, with excellent mileage and tread wear. ULTIMAT-EYE helped achieve those goals, providing valuable insights into the tire’s stiffness, tread design, rubber compounds, and more.
For the H50 front tire, Bridgestone focused on steering response, bump compliance and mileage. Contact-patch stiffness and shape play a big role in those characteristics, and ULTIMAT-EYE was there to help assess changes to the front tire’s carcass construction, tread pattern, and rubber compound. To bring a little of that BRL performance to the rear H50, a taller profile was used, which helps bigger V-Twins tip into corners. Supporting that sporty profile is a specially designed rubber compound that delivers excellent grip and tremendous durability.
Motorcycles are connected to the road via two contact patches that are roughly the size of a credit card. Given all that’s riding on such a small area, your customers will want to know those few square inches are as thoroughly developed and refined as possible. With the H50 and its ULTIMAT-EYE informed design, they know they are. Bridgestone’s Battlecruise H50 tires are offered in a variety of sizes to fit all popular models. ■

Cleaning Up
Keeping Air and Oil Flowing
Summer means more time on a motorcycle, but it also means it’s more important than ever to ensure everything is clean and operating at optimal levels. LIQUI MOLY’s Motorbike Air Filter Cleaner and Motorbike Radiator Cleaner help keep engines running at the right temperature. And for riders, the brand’s Visor Cleaner ensures a clear view of the road ahead.
A reliable air filter is a must, especially for any riders heading out to those fall and summer rallies – or coming back after collecting lots of dust, dirt and oil along the way. LIQUI MOLY Motorbike Air Filter Cleaner is a gentle yet effective concentrate for foam filters. All those particles picked up from mile after mile of riding can be easily extracted without damaging the foam pores of the filter.
The formula for the Motorbike Air Filter Cleaner is free of solvents, and it is biodegradable and can be mixed with water. So, even though it is tough on dirt and grease, it is still gentle enough that it won’t damage any of the bike’s components.
LIQUI MOLY creates products for all types of vehicles, and the Motorbike Air Filter Cleaner is one that works for more than just motorcycles. It can be used to clean foam air filters on any two-wheel or four-wheel vehicle, making it a versatile cleaner to have on hand in the shop.
When it’s time to renew a bike’s coolant, a quick flush with LIQUI MOLY Motorbike Radiator Cleaner is a good idea to keep things running smooth. The cleaner removes oil, lime and other deposits from the cooling circuit to keep the engine operating in the correct temperature range.
Using the cleaner is easy, just add it to the existing coolant and run the engine at its normal operating temperature for 10 to 30 minutes. Then, when the coolant and cleaner are drained from the radiator, all those loosened deposits will flow right out along with the fluids. The new coolant can then be added to a clean system for optimal performance.
Sure, bikes get dirty, but so do riders. LIQUI MOLY Visor Cleaner comes in a convenient 10ml spray bottle, so it’s easy to take along on a ride. In addition to clearing away dirt, oil, bugs and other particles, the Visor Cleaner also adds a protective layer to the visor and helps prevent fogging. It can be used on glass, too, making it great for wiping down mirrors or headlight covers. ■

Barnett’s Scorpion bolt-on clutch basket is a great replacement for broken or damaged stock clutch baskets. It provides superior quality and durability over stock baskets.
The Scorpion Series Clear Derby Cover gives a full and clear view of the clutch assembly itself. The clear cover features a ¼-inch thick clear polycarbonate window that’s resistant to scratches and discoloration.
Barnett’s Scorpion Lock-up Clutches feature a lowprofile billet aluminum lock-up pressure plate that fits under the motorcycle’s OEM primary cover for easy installation.
Motorcycle clutches get no respect. Riders are prone to abuse them, either dumping the clutch lever for quick starts or slowly and mercilessly dragging the lever for maximum grip at the rear tire. Heavy payloads take a toll, too, and let’s not even talk about riders failing to check for proper cable adjustment. Truly, clutch packs are the unsung heroes of the Harley-Davidson world. Barnett, a company specializing in aftermarket clutches since 1948, knows this well and has a big lineup of products to keep bikes running right.
Over the past 75 years, Barnett’s range of replacement clutch kits has grown to include the popular Scorpion line that offers customers replacement components crafted of durable 2024-T3 billet aluminum. Especially popular among Harley owners of 2007-23 Big Twins is the Scorpion bolton clutch basket, a perfect replacement for broken or damaged stock clutch baskets.
The Scorpion’s billet aluminum body is hard anodized, giving it superior quality and durability over stock baskets. Installation is quick and easy, too; remove the stock basket from the ring gear/primary sprocket, then bolt on the new Barnett Scorpion basket. All hardware and instructions are included with each kit.
Barnett also offers upgraded clutches for Harleys. Its Scorpion Lock-up Clutches feature a low-profile billet aluminum lock-up pressure plate that fits under the motorcycle’s OEM primary cover for easy installation. The clutch surface area and capacity are greatly increased over stock specifications for increased durability and reliability. The Lock-up comes with three different sets of six coil springs, providing the consumer with a variety of pressure options to suit engines from stock to 250-plus horsepower. In many applications clutch lever resistance can be reduced simply by installing the included light- or medium-pressure springs.
The kit also includes a steel inner hub, and all Scorpion clutches are designed to fit Scorpion or stock Harley clutch baskets. Hydraulic versions are also available, and Barnett offers Scorpion Lock-up clutches for 1941-1984 Big Twins, 1990-23 Big Twins and 1991-2003 Sportsters.
Barnett also offers the Scorpion Series Clear Derby Cover that gives a full and clear view of the clutch assembly itself. The see-through cover fits over stock or Scorpion clutches for a variety of Harley models, including 19902016 Big Twins, 2018-2023 Softails, and 2015-2023 FLs with narrow primary covers.
The clear cover features a ¼-inch thick clear polycarbonate window that’s resistant to scratches and discoloration. Kits include an O-ring gasket and derby cover gasket, and the outer cover is CNC machined from billet aluminum that’s finished in brilliant chrome or black powder coat. Barnett products are made in the USA. ■

Pan America and Sportster Tires
The Karoo 4 is the latest in Metzeler’s Karoo tire line. Off-road riding is easy thanks to features like scoop-shaped blocks for sand and knobs for hard pack. On the road, multi-radius profiles, a stiffer structure, a dualcompound rear and lateral knobs all ensure a smooth ride and excellent grip in the corners.
The tread design and profile shape of the Karoo 4 tires make them a solid performer in the wet and cold, and the rubber formulation is resistant to abrasion, cutting and tearing. Metzeler’s DYMATEC (Dynamic Mould Angle Technology) gives the tires the right amount of tread resistance at every stage of a turn as well as uniform wear.
Pan America riders who are fully loaded with gear can confidently choose the Tourance Next II tires, which are designed for agility and stability at any level of loaded up. These roadoriented tires feature a dual-compound rear that adds to their predictability throughout the entire life cycle.
The compounds and Metzeler Hyperbase construction result in great braking in the wet, and the adaptive highsilica compound in the center stripe, as well as silica in the shoulders, provide chemical grip in the wet and cold.
Metzeler Karoo 4 is a true 50/50 tire for riders who like to split their time both on and off the asphalt. It’s a great option for your customers who are riding Harley-Davidson’s popular Pan America Adventure bike.
Motorcycles can be demanding beasts, and they need tires that can keep up with those demands. Metzeler has specialty tires for whatever those requirements might be.
Adventure-minded options like the Karoo 4 and Tourance
Next II tires are ideal for the go-anywhere style of the HarleyDavidson Pan America, while the Cruisetec tires are a great choice for modern Sportsters that need street performance.
Adventure riding can mean many things, which is why there is no one-tire-fits-all option for the Pan America. The Metzeler Karoo 4 is a true 50/50 tire for riders who like to split their time both on and off the asphalt. Riders who stick to mostly paved roads will appreciate the Metzeler Tourance Next 2, which is road-oriented, but can still tackle dirt roads.
On the street side, the Metzeler Cruisetec tires are an excellent choice for riders who need tires that match the performance aspects of modern V-Twins. The 160/70R 17 sizing is perfect for the Sportster S, so those riders can get the strength and styling of a V-Twin tire combined with the performance characteristics of a sport tire.
The Cruisetec’s profile is inspired by Metzeler’s sporttouring profiles, with a steeper curvature that improves handling and agility in side-to-side transitions without sacrificing straight-line stability.
The dual-compound rubber includes silica for fast warm-up and improved traction in all riding conditions. Cornering is smooth and predictable thanks to the softer shoulder compound. But, for all the mention of sporty characteristics, the Cruisetec tires still look like true V-Twin tires, right down to the tread design. ■

Steel Security Engine Guards for M8 Softails
Some motorcycle parts are made to be functional, and some are made just to add a touch of style to a bike. And then there are those parts that do both of those things. That’s the case with the new engine guards for Harley-Davidson Milwaukee-Eight Softails from Kodlin USA.
Kodlin USA launched in 2020 with a big focus on M8 Softail parts and accessories. While the brand has been growing constantly to include other fitments, its M8 Softail parts continue to be big sellers. And, not surprisingly, the list of available parts for those bikes just keeps growing.
The Kodlin M8 Softail engine guards are the latest to join the lineup of parts for the popular M8 Softail models. The guards are made from steel to ensure they provide a sturdy barrier between the engine and any hazards of the road – or the road itself. Kodlin designed both engine guards as well as rear guards, so the engine gets maximum coverage. Even the oil cooler cover is guarded. Riders can choose a black or bronze finish for their engine guards so they have the best match for their bike. The
engine guards arrive with black endcaps, which can be replaced if they get dinged up. Kodlin offers the replacement endcaps as a pair.
Other M8 Softail parts in the Kodlin lineup are lowering kits, with fitments for either the mono shock with a remote pre-load adjuster or the one that has the pre-load adjuster on the shock. There are also two lift kits. The 1-inch lift kit fits most M8 Softail models, while the other works with all M8 Softails. However, the latter was specifically designed for the M8 extended shock, such as the one on 2018-2023 Fat Bob and 2022-2023 Low Rider S and ST models. That version lifts these models by 9/16 inch, which is the maximum lift for M8 Softails with the extended shock without hitting the swingarm.
Another M8 Softail product offered by Kodlin USA isn’t a part, but a tool. The shock compression tool for M8 Softails makes it easy to install Kodlin lowering and lift kits, and it eases disassembly of the stock shocks for other projects.
Kodlin USA might be a relatively new company in North America, but the Kodlin brand has been thriving for a long time. Fred Kodlin founded the German company in 1984, and he soon became a well-known bike show competitor in the U.S. Fans of Fred’s beautiful, functional designs sprang up, but getting parts imported from Germany to America was a tall order.
To meet the demands of customers in North America, the Kodlin brand expanded in 2020 by establishing Kodlin USA. Fred’s son, Len Kodlin, has followed in his father’s footsteps as a designer, and he is an integral part of Kodlin USA. ■

Geared for Success!
25 Years of Improving Harley-Davidson Transmissions
Bert and Lisa Baker put it all on the line 25 years ago to found Baker Drivetrain. The couple worked as engineers at General Motors when they decided to embrace their vision for improved, expanded gearboxes and transmission parts for Harley-Davidson motorcycles. From humble beginnings in the family’s basement to international recognition and acclaim, Baker Drivetrain is a picture of the American Dream, and is a longtime Drag Specialties vendor.
Now, Drag Specialties has expanded its selection of Baker Drivetrain’s made-in-the-USA products so you and your customers have access to a wide array of premium drivetrain parts. This includes the company’s legendary OD6 (Overdrive 6-Speed) transmission kit, the DD7 (Direct Drive 7-Speed), 5-Speed Shift Drum Kit, 5-Speed N1 Shift Drum Kit, Transmission Street Door, Anti-Overshift Ratchet Shift Pawl Assembly, Big Dog Clutch Kit, full rebuild kits for stock and Baker transmissions, and more.
The inspiration for the six-speed gearbox that catalyzed Baker Drivetrain came from a big-inch custom that Bert built back in 1995 and featured nearly everything he wanted. The only thing that bothered him about the bike was the engine vibration in fifth. He tried taller pulleys, but it killed the bike’s performance. And then Bert thought, “What if it had a sixth gear?”
Bert was a manual-transmission engineer at GM at the time, so his skillset was perfectly matched to the challenge. Still, it took eight months for his OD6 prototype to be ready for a test ride. “I specifically remember the first time I shifted from fifth to sixth gear out on the road,” recalls Bert. “The vibration reduction was just the sweetest thing. The extra gear took the vibration out of the handlebars and off the seat and off the floorboards. It was a real ‘Aha!’ moment.”
It would take a lot of sacrifice and commitment to turn that “Aha!” moment into a business. Bert and his wife Lisa left their positions at GM, drained their bank accounts, cashed in their 401(k)s, and even tapped into their kids’ college savings to invest in a run of 50 OD6s. They sold immediately, and the market demanded more. Bert and Lisa had risked it all, and the risk was worth it.
Today Baker Drivetrain is run by Bert and Lisa, though they now have dozens of employees and a world-class manufacturing facility in Haslett, Michigan. “He’s the creative side,” says Lisa, “and I’m the organizational side.”
Baker Drivetrain components take Harley’s designs and elevate them to a whole new level with more refined features, higher quality materials and finishes, and more precise manufacturing. Weaknesses in the factory designs are identified and fixed, while improvements – like a sixth

gear for older five-speed transmission and a seventh gear for newer six-speed bikes – are added to totally change the performance, feel, and function of your customers’ motorcycles.
Baker’s original OD6 for early Big Twins doesn’t just have an extra gear for one-upmanship. As was Bert’s original goal, the sixth gear yields smoother, lower-rpm cruising and better gas mileage, while revised ratios for first through fifth offer stronger acceleration. On top of that, the OD6 upgrades all the transmission components for smoother, more positive shifting.
The shift drum is lighter and has tighter tolerances and better ramp angles, plus it sits between stronger billet
pillow blocks and has a redundant neutral that makes finding neutral easy. Complementing the shift drum, Baker’s shift forks are machined from billet for strength and chrome plated for durability. The OD6 kit also comes with a billet-aluminum bearing door that replaces the stock plastic-caged door bearings and snap rings with steel-caged units that are retained with an 1/8-inch thick plate. All these upgrades combined make the OD6 better in every way, including strength. This setup is rated to handle 165 foot-pounds of torque and comes with a five-year warranty. Baker’s DD7 brings many of the same features and benefits to late-model six-speed bikes.
Drag Specialties also carries individual parts that allow your customers to repair or upgrade their transmissions with more refined components. That includes the 5-Speed Shift Drum Kit, 5-Speed N1 Shift Drum Kit that places neutral at the bottom for an all-up shift pattern, the burlier billet Transmission Street Door, Anti-Overshift Ratchet Shift Pawl Assembly, as well as complete rebuild kits for both stock and Baker transmissions.
If your customers have a problem with their Harley’s transmission, odds are Baker Drivetrain has applied its ingenuity and attention to detail to a solution. Let’s congratulate Bert and Lisa on making the American Dream a reality, for manufacturing all of their products in the USA, and for 25 years in business. ■

BAKER DRIVETRAIN
The OD6 (Overdrive 6-Speed) transmission kit is the one that started it all. Baker designed the OD6 to add a much-needed extra gear for early Big Twins. The setup offers smoother, lower-rpm cruising, better gas mileage, and stronger acceleration for first through fifth.
In addition to the upgraded and revolutionary transmission kits that Baker builds, the company also offers transmission rebuild kits for a number of Harley-Davidson models.
Among the well-engineered products offered by Baker is the Anti-Overshift Ratchet Shift Pawl Assembly that helps provide smoother shifts and protects against broken shifter-shaft springs.
Corner Clearance
New Mid Controls for Spirited Riding
The advent and popularity of Performance Baggers has inspired owners of Harley-Davidsons Touring models to consider more spirited riding options. Experienced riders know that altering the placement of foot controls can significantly impact comfort by allowing the rider to make adjustments in seating posture and leg position, while maintaining shifting and braking with ease. Rider position can also make for more aggressive seat time.
It’s precisely that shift in riding position and foot placement that Hawg Halters Inc. is targeting with its new Dominator Mid Control Conversion Kits. It’s a great setup for customers looking to wick things up a bit out on the road.
Manufactured in Dahlonega, Georgia, from aircraft grade 6061-T6 billet aluminum, Dominator Mid Controls fit all 6-speed Harley Touring models. Their compact design and light weight allow for additional ground clearance, thanks to a new design solution that eliminates the stock or remote mount master cylinder. That extra clearance translates to more leeway in the twisties.
The shifter side features an HHI ball bearing design with stainless steel shaft and multiple-point alignment for quick, reliable shifting. The brake side has an integrated brake master cylinder with a custom transmission side cover for compact, efficient installation.
This kit works with both cable or hydraulic Touring bike clutch applications, and includes new HHI custom knurled pegs. These controls can be ordered without foot and toe pegs, and in that instance will include a set of early style female clevis accepting most any male mount folding foot peg. Toe pegs will need threaded holes for 5/16-inch screws.
They come in black or gold anodized, to fit 2016-2020 FL models and 2021-2023 FL models. Versions for M8 Softails are coming soon.
Note that installation is limited by exhaust design. The new HHI Mid Controls do not fit stock or similarly designed systems. Some exhaust makers such as Bassani currently offer mid-control compatible systems. As others come on board, HHI will update the list of compatible exhausts.
HHI’s function-first approach is enabled by continual evaluation, inspection and testing, as the company employs CAD-aided manufacturing and high-speed CNC machining. On the flip side, time-proven elements such as pride in craftsmanship and a commitment to quality round out the company’s overall attitude that’s captured in these words – Proudly made in the USA. ■

At first glance, it’s easy to see that both of these race machines are turbocharged, but what you and your customers may not know is that the turbo is bolted to a small 107-inch motor. This setup evens out the playing field when compared to the large displacement 131-inch motors also in the competition.
While the powerplant is a very important part of the race bike equation, there are other components that need to be used to complement all of that power. Check out the FatBook to see that your customers have access to those very Trask parts that are being tested and proven out on the racetrack.
A big one is the Trask *Tornado turbo kit. For customers looking to turbocharge their next build, the Tornado kit is a great bang-for-their buck upgrade. It bolts right on and offers a massive boost in horsepower and torque, all without an upgrade to the exhaust or air intake.
Another essential performance upgrade for MilwaukeeEight Harley-Davidsons is the Check M8 Vented Transmission Top Cover. Even when cruising the backroads, your customers’ motors need to breathe. Install this vented transmission top cover and relieve the excessive crankcase pressure to eliminate or greatly reduce the

oil transfer to the top of the motor and into the intake system. It’s also a great addition for large displacement motors to allow them to make peak power and efficiency.
For any performance V-Twin that’s making more than 100 hp, check out the Trask Billet Clutch Basket. Since it was developed, Trask has run the basket on some of the most powerful V-Twins the company has built and it is hands down, a definitive improvement over stock.
As mentioned, race bikes need more than just big motors. For a great weight saving and strength upgrade, Trask’s Billet Swing Arm increases rigidity and stability for the speeds associated with today’s Performance Baggers. There are fitment for 2002 to 2023 Harley-Davidson models. This swing arm is built with precision fitment and no welds.
Rounding things out is the Trask Billet Tail Section. Raceinspired and track-proven, this piece is eight pounds lighter than stock and replaces the OE sub frame for superior strength and stability. This is a must have for Trask race bikes, and is a cool upgrade for built-out Performance Baggers. ■

Better Bars
Custom-Style Handlebars and Risers
About 40 years ago, Don Schultz opened a mo torcycle service shop in sunny Huntington Beach, California called Wild Rides. After working directly with riders and what they wanted for their bikes, the shop found its calling and transitioned to manufacturing handlebars under a name you’re likely to recognize today, Wild 1.
The experienced crew at the shop gained a first-hand understanding of the initial mods riders were after, including swapping out the stock handlebars for a custom set. Wild 1 has built upon this consistently popular modification over the years, now boasting a vast selection of handlebars and controls accessories in various styles and finishes.
Wild 1 is widely recognized for its Chubby handlebars, a product family it’s been manufacturing right here in the USA since 1996. The carefully designed and hand-built Chubby style bars provide a clean, beefed-up look with a 1¼-inch outer diameter no matter the bend or fitment. From Sportsters and Dynas to Softails and Baggers, Wild 1 offers handlebars and controls components to fuel your customers’ style.
All the major handlebar styles are offered from Wild 1, including drag and T-bars, ape hangers, Bagger bars and Bagger apes, classic cruiser bars and everything in between. The Chubbys line of handlebars has evolved through years of creating and fine-tuning new designs, leading to various sub-series of bar styles like Wild 1’s Hooked or Blackout series. The many combinations of shapes, bends, end rise, pullback and width dimensions available ensure you can help your customers achieve precisely what they’re after.
Completing each handlebar’s style is a selection of different clamps and risers also under the Chubby name. Each of these combinations are designed from a rider’s point of view and manufactured to strict quality standards that Wild 1 has always prioritized for its products. Fine details like CNC-machined shape and design, polishing and hardware make Wild 1 components stand out as an American-made, enthusiast-driven product.
Some of the more recent Wild 1 products introduced to the FatBook for 2023 include 14-inch Chubby Springer ape hanger bars and Chubby Springer billet 4-inch riser kits. As with all Chubby handlebars, these new additions are pre-drilled for internal wiring, knurled and precisionbent. Available in a show-chrome finish or Blackout series, these bars pair perfectly with the billet Springer risers that provide a clamp-less look and are also available in chrome, blackout, and even gloss black finishes.
Wild 1 has never let off the throttle when pouring its passion into products designed for its fellow riders, all while delivering quality fit and finish and reliable durability. ■

Belt Drive for the Classics
Primary Upgrades for Knuckles, Pans and Shovelheads
Vintage Harley-Davidsons never go out of fashion or favor. Whether that bike’s going to be a faithfully done cosmetic restoration of an original with some modern hardware sprinkled in or a full-on hot-rod, more often than not there’s a belt-drive primary on the build list.
Hidden behind covers where appropriate or proudly spinning in the breeze when that’s the desired vibe, belt drives are the connoisseur’s touch. Naturally, BDL has beltdrive primary kits for all those Knuckleheads, Panheads and Shovelheads, bikes from the 1936 model years clear through to the last years of the Shovel.
Direct bolt-ons, all these drives adapt the stock Harley clutch right into the new BDL basket and there are plenty of gearing choices for all of this. The kits for the Knuckles, Pans and Shovels all come with a tooth-count in the part number, a 61-39 for instance. The larger number will denote the tooth-count on the basket, the smaller number refers to the front pulley.
Additionally – and ensuring a really easy conversion –there are packages specifically for kickstart bikes, kits for electric-start models, and for the early-bike kits there are belt-drive systems for the tapered engine-sprocket shaft models. There are also bolt-on kits for the splined enginesprocket bikes. Getting it right couldn’t be easier.
Primary upgrades for those venerable oldies from Milwaukee don’t stop with just these smooth running, quiet and low-maintenance early-application belt-drive kits. BDL’s CC-100-S Competitor Clutch package can also be included. A serious step-up all by itself, Competitor Clutch kits feature nine coil springs and shoulder bolts so riders can choose to use either six or nine spring/bolt combinations depending upon the need for pressure plate adjustment, clutch pack pressure and clutch lever pull. There’s also a large, double-row hub bearing for maximum strength and a non-floating basket assembly that results in smoother clutch operation and positive adjustments. The Competitor’s polished-aluminum pressure plate adds a custom look for the open-belt installations, and the clutch plates are BDL’s race-proven aramid fiber. Installation of all this involves nothing more than a simple press-fit into one of those new BDL early-clutch baskets, or the OEM original, for that matter.
Drag Specialties has all of this, all the belt-drive primary upgrades in all the early-Harley applications, and all the CC-100-S Competitor Clutch packages to go with them. ■

The New Black Signature Braid for a Unique Look
Karbonfibr
Since its groundbreaking introduction in 2021, Magnum Shielding’s Signature Karbonfibr braid has become a popular choice among riders looking for a unique, custom style. This new black alternative braid complements black color schemes or carbon fiber details and will catch your eye, even from a distance. The novel design is created from metallic wire with distinct black tone colors, blended and interwoven in such a way that the braid imitates the look of carbon fiber.
Magnum’s KarbonFibr range – including Handlebar Installation Kits – covers many late model Harley-Davidson Softail and Touring applications. There are also fitments of popular cables and brake lines for older models including Dynas and Sportsters.
KarbonFibr braid products come with polished, black chrome fittings and all lines and cables match perfectly. Feel confident that the brake lines, hydraulic clutch lines and control cables provide your customers with a precise, OE fitment. Their high-quality factory-style construction uses fittings, tube assemblies, and manifolds that provide trouble-free installations with professional looking results. All Magnum KarbonFibr brake line and control cable coatings offer exceptional protection for paint and chrome.
Magnum Shielding’s premium KarbonFibr brake and clutch lines incorporate PTFE tubing braided with DuPontTM Kevlar® Aramid Fiber reinforcement, Signature Magnum braid, and a clear PVC outer jacket that the company says will never discolor. Aramid Fiber reinforcement greatly reduces line expansion for high-performance braking. Every Magnum brake line is pressure tested and fully DOT FMVSS-106 compliant.
Premium KarbonFibr braided control cables feature matching Signature braid, durable clear coating, and are manufactured with components that meet or exceed OE specifications. The high efficiency cables are constructed with anti-friction inner liners, nylon adjuster inserts, and are factory lubricated for smooth, consistent, longlasting operation.
Complete clutch cables also incorporate a water-resistant adjuster and a rubber seal in the transmission fitting to eliminate any fluid leaks. Magnum’s Quick-Connect upper replacement clutch cables for Milwaukee-Eight Softails and Touring models feature a robust threaded adjuster and complete compatibility with the lower OE adjuster housing. All cables fit like the factory parts and have the built-in quality for which Magnum is known.
Handlebar Installation Kits include everything for a handlebar replacement – DOT brake lines, throttle and idle cables or terminated throttle-by-wire extensions, clutch cable or hydraulic clutch line, hardware, plus fully terminated turn signal and switch wiring extensions. The fully terminated wiring makes life easy when completing handlebar installations. In many applications the extensions are plug and play, further reducing the time needed to complete a job.
As with all Magnum products, KarbonFibr braid additions offer a great fit, beautiful finish, and Magnum’s legendary quality. These new products will really make a bike stand out in the crowd. Plus, for handlebar changes, Magnum’s easy-to-install kits with DOT compliant lines are a real winner, saving the installer and customer time and money. ■

Throttle it Out Twist
Grip Sensors for Harley-Davidsons
Twisting the throttle initiates a response in both man and machine, sending adrenaline pumping and the engine revving. However, what seems like an instantaneous feeling is the result of a system of several components. Sometimes this system fails, but reliable replacement electronic and wiring components are readily available from NAMZ to get riders back in the saddle.
The term throttle-by-wire was established when electronic systems began replacing traditional cables. This came for many Harley-Davidson models beginning in 2008, following the adoption of other common electronic systems like fuel injection. A typical throttle-by-wire system from Harley consists of a twist grip sensor, an induction module with a throttle control actuator and the primary electronic control module (ECM).
With these systems, twisting the throttle each direction activates two, 5-volt hall effect sensors that send this controlled voltage to the ECM. The ECM then communicates that voltage to the throttle control actuator monitored by throttle position sensors, ultimately controlling the fuel and air entering the engine in accordance with the rider’s input at the twist throttle.
When functioning as intended, this system helps create optimized efficiency and intuitive throttle response for riders, but unfortunately malfunctions are not unheard of. Some of the most common failures within this system are the early connection point inside the handlebar and the twist grip sensor itself.
If one signal is lost from the twist grip sensor to the ECM, the motorcycle will enter a limited performance mode (limp mode) where throttle response is noticeably slower and overall engine performance level cannot be reached. If both twist grip sensor signals are lost, the motorcycle will be stuck in forced idle mode, only allowing very slow riding just to get to a safe stopping point.
These fail-safe conditions are all situations no rider wants to find themselves in, but very well could. For customers who do find themselves with a faulty twist grip sensor, NAMZ has done the engineering to offer quality, affordable and attainable electronic parts.
NAMZ’s replacement twist grip sensor units are supplied as a complete, virtually plug-and-play assembly. They are designed and built to replace the OEM part, featuring a hardwired connection from the sensor to the harness, eliminating the green connector inside the handlebar. OEM style wiring harness and heated grip connectors are also included and ready to be easily installed after the sensor’s harness is run through the handlebars.
Throttle-by-wire systems can be found on many Harley models from 2008 all the way to current, and NAMZ offers three reliable replacement twist grip sensors to cover all of them. Whether it’s throttle system issues or one of many other electrical system concerns, NAMZ is gearedup with the solutions. ■

The DP Difference 10 Steps to Improved Stopping
Motorcycle brakes are an overlooked, and often overworked, component. Overlooked because riders assume that when they reach for the controls, the brakes will work every time and on time. Overworked because many riders don’t replace them until they have to. When they do have to, DP Brakes offers proven aftermarket brake pads using a special sintered compound for maximum stopping power. Here’s another fact to consider – DP Brakes has been a brake pad supplier to Drag Specialties and parent company LeMans Corporation since 1993. There’s a reason for that longevity, and dealers are invited to visit DP Brake’s booth and learn more at the upcoming North American NVP Dealer Expo in Madison, Wisconsin.
In the meantime (or if you’re unable to attend the NVP in Madison), here’s a brief 10-point check list highlighting the merits of DP Brakes’ sintered compound design:
Sintered compound developed exclusively for motorcycles.
Improved stopping power and feedback for the rider.
No brake dust – so whitewall tires remain white.
No annoying squeal, yet not abrasive to rotors.
Ceramic heat barrier on backplate to resist fading.
OE pads for Can Am ATV/UTVs.
OE pads on Performance Machine, Hawg Halters Inc. and Arlen Ness custom calipers.

Fork Fixer Introducing the Pivot Suspension Vice
The Pivot Suspension Vice is designed to help simplify and streamline suspension work by offering a secure way to hold and drain suspension components during oil changes, seal changes and re-valves. Two aluminum soft jaws accommodate 16mm to 34mm diameter parts and 40mm to 61mm diameter parts, while the pivoting head holds components in any position for easy access and draining. Oil spills may feel inevitable during suspension work, but a moveable drain pan with a screen deck helps reduce mess and keeps any dropped parts from going for a swim.
Suspension work isn’t particularly complicated, but it does require some special equipment. Chief among them is some way to hold those oddly shaped, often slippery fork tubes and shocks. Meet Motion Pro’s Pivot Suspension Vice, a feature-packed product that’s sophisticated enough for a professional shop yet affordable enough for a DIYer’s garage.
The vice’s rigid steel frame bolts directly to the work surface, and only takes up 10 inches of bench space. Every suspension service task was considered when designing the Pivot Vise, and it truly is a start-to-finish suspension tool that will make any job involving forks and shocks a lot easier. ■

Going Up Big-Bore Kits for M8 Engines
KB Piston’s new Super Duty 4.250-inch pistons for 107-inch, 114-inch and 117-inch MilwaukeeEight engines offer higher compression ratios and increased displacement.
For riders who have the “go big or go home” mentality when it comes to their Milwaukee-Eight power plant, the KB Performance Super Duty big-bore piston kits for Milwaukee-Eight engines might be exactly what they’re looking for.
These pistons have a 4.250-inch bore size to bump a 107-inch engine up to a displacement of 124 inches. Both 114-inch and 117-inch engines jump to 128 inches with one of these kits.
When it comes to compression performance, the bigbore pistons for 107-inch engines take the compression ratio from the stock 11.1:1 up to 11.8:1. With the kit for 114-inch and 117-inch M8 engines, the compression ratio jumps to 11.7:1.
All of KB’s Super Duty pistons feature Type 3 hardanodized crown and top ring groove. Together, this combination creates the ideal flat surface for the ring to rotate on while also providing an extra line of defense against corrosion, especially if alcohol-added fuels are running through the system.
KB’s Super Duty Series are supplied with Line2Line abradable skirt coating. This coating reduces piston rock and noise, and it contributes to the best possible ring seal. High-quality ring set and wrist pins with wire locks are also supplied.
KB Pistons also offers 4.255-inch overbore piston kits for both the 124-inch and 128-inch displacement options. ■

WATERPROOF PRODUCTS
Spray-On Shield
Detailer to Shine and Protect
Ordinary spray-on detailers are great – to a point. With a lot of silicone in their formulas you can wipe them on and everything looks bright and shiny, until it doesn’t. After as little as an hour in the sun, UV rays will have evaporated that detailer off, setting the look back to square one and exposing the surface to the elements.
Cycle Care’s C6 Detailer changes all that. More than a silicone-based detailer, C6 is infused with carbon, a hard and strong pure element. C6 molecularly bonds to the surface it’s applied to, its organometallic, silicon-dioxide compound creating a permanent molecular bond to a vehicle’s surface to achieve maximum hardness, durability and a shine that lasts.
C6 won’t wash away or break down, its nano-carbon elements creating a singular-element coating that fills in all the imperfections of a factory clear coat, adding extreme protection against UV rays, acid rain, bird droppings, road salt, environmental pollutants, alkalies, and solvents.
This advanced formulation wasn’t created overnight. Cycle Care invested years of chemical research to create C6 Detailer’s protective coating, developing and manufacturing it in the USA. A C6 carbon-infused finish doesn’t degrade and wash away, so the easily applied, high-gloss shine and durable, hydrophobic all-around protection is there for the long haul. ■

Extra Fuel When it’s Needed Most Gas on the Go
Every rider has been there. Out on some long, lonely stretch of road and not a turnoff or gas station in sight. The fuel gauge is bouncing around “Empty” and the bike’s already running in Reserve. It’s crunch time, feathering the throttle in hopes of coaxing every last mile out of the fumes left in the tank.
A full REDA Gas Can in the saddlebag, maybe even two with one in each bag, will take away all that worry. Designed specifically for Harley-Davidson saddlebags, they’re shaped to fit perfectly in that back, hard-to-reach spot inside and each REDA Gas Can holds a gallon of gas. Plenty enough to put a customer’s mind at ease knowing they’re not going to end up on the side of the road with a thumb in the air.
REDA Gas Cans are cheap insurance against getting stranded out on the highway. They’re tough and EPA and CARB certified. The cans are made from high-quality materials, they’re built to last and they’re 100 percent vapor-proof and spill-proof, eliminating any concern about fumes or spilled gas in the saddlebag,
Riders might not need to pack along a REDA Gas Can every time they take a Harley out for a spin. However, when it’s a long-distance run in the offing having that extra gallon or two of gas along for the ride can significantly boost the confidence level of getting there without a hitch. ■

Cure Those Battery Blues
Introducing the OptiMate 4 Quad Program
(LFP) batteries. Its unique test-and-save ability adjusts charging to guarantee safe recovery of the battery. If the OptiMate 4 Quad Program cannot save the battery, it is at end of its life. After saving and charging, the OptiMate 4 tests and indicates the battery’s state of health, and then it continues with 24/7 battery maintenance.
The OptiMate 4 Quad Program is the new ultimate Gold Series powersport battery charger from TecMate. It features the best of all existing OptiMate powersport chargers combined into a single product.
With four selectable charging programs it can save, charge, test and maintain any 12V powersport battery, including 12V lead-acid (Pb) types such as classic wet cell or sealed / VRLA AGM or GEL, and 12.8V / 13.2V lithium (LFP / LiFePO4).
Programs 1 and 3 includes OptiMate’s best battery saving algorithms for both lead-acid (Pb) and lithium
Programs 2 (Pb) and program 4 (LFP) charge, test and maintain the battery for BMW motorcycles through the 12V socket that is controlled by the motorcycle’s ZFE CAN/ Bus system. The OptiMate 4 Quad program automatically initializes charging, then charges and maintains the BMW motorcycle’s battery without further supervision.
The premium version includes the DIN plug adapter that fits the socket on BMW and Triumph motorcycles. A handlebar hanging hook is also included.
TecMate says that customers only need to plug it in and leave it connected for as long as the vehicle is parked, and the rider will experience no more battery problems. ■

Pump and Protect Performance Oil Cooling Systems
Oil single handedly keeps engines from failing ride after ride. It lubricates crucial components, minimizes heat and creates a wear-resistant barrier protecting internal components.
With years of racing development, Feuling recognized room for improvement in the Harley-Davidson Milwaukee-Eight’s oiling system and developed performance oiling system kits to provide a range of benefits, from stock engines to race builds.
The key components of Feuling oiling system kits are high flow camplates paired with an upgraded oil pump. Feuling’s camplate designs were carefully engineered and tested to increase oil flow, delivering additional oil to lifters, cooling jets, the crankshaft and
rod bearings, all with improved durability thanks to precision billet construction.
Feuling oil pumps offer increased oil volume and an optimized pressure relief valve and are bench tested for precise function and improved durability. As a pair, Feuling oil pumps and camplates eliminate common OEM system pressure scavenging issues.
In testing, Feuling’s oiling system dropped operating temperatures 15-30 degrees, increased oil pressure and improved engine performance. These kits are available in HP+ and Race variations to cover a range of builds and include the camplate, oil pump, lifters and gaskets and seals. ■

In Good Hands
Grips Made for Comfort
Avon Grips’ Memory Foam hand grip is among the brand’s most popular models, and for good reason. Memory Foam grips have an outer layer consisting of a soft pliable foam-vinyl material that readily conforms to a rider’s hands during a ride. Moments after grasping, each grip feels as though it was custom-formed to the rider’s hand. In addition, each grip’s soft foam construction helps dampen vibration through the handlebar to the rider’s hands, especially important during long touring trips.
In addition, each Memory Foam grip’s serrated surface texture assures a firm and steady grasp for the rider, giving complete control at all times, especially during hard acceleration and sudden braking. The soft material is chemical resistant, and does not feel sticky in hot temperatures.
Memory Foam grips are available in three outer-diameter sizes – Small, measuring 13/8 inches, Medium in 1½ inches, and Large in 15/8 inches — so they fit a wide range of hand sizes. The Memory Foam’s aluminum ends are stylish, too, available in either black anodized or chrome finish. Grips
are available for most Harleys with conventional throttle cables or throttle-by-wire systems. And, like all Avon Grips, Memory Foam grips are made in the USA. ■

Performance Pads Brakes for New Harley-Davidsons
Harley-Davidson is much more than just a motorcycle brand, it’s a living reflection of motorcycling heritage. With an influence like this, Harley has undergone some evolutionary shifts with new and innovative models like the Pan America Adventure bike and the next-gen Nightster.
Harley’s entrance into the Adventure market was well received by riders, industry professionals and the after market. Impressive numbers of riders have stepped into the Adventure scene and embraced the places it can take them. However, with long rides comes more maintenance, and EBC quickly applied its braking experience to prepare Pan America riders for the service they need.
Covering RH and Special RH 1250 models, EBC’s Double-H sintered brakes pads offer a superior friction rating and brake effect. Sintered metal construction allows these brake pads to last twice as long as organic pads, a crucial characteristic when logging high mileage rides. Available for both front and rear, these USA-made brake pads provide riders instantaneous braking feedback they’ll feel beneath them.
This improved pad performance and durability is offered for your customers with a new Nightster in their garage as well. With all-new performance and handling, Nightster riders will appreciate this upgrade when navigating roads and highways. ■

Sized for Service
Oils and Lubricants in Bulk
How important are profit and quality products for your shop? Service departments go through a lot of oil and lubricants, which means highvolume packaging is the most efficient way to go. By taking advantage of Bel-Ray’s 6-gallon containers, shops can save space, reduce waste and maximize profit, all while offering a premium brand.
Bel-Ray utilizes a “bag-in-box” design for these bulk-size containers. When cost averaging, these larger containers offer your shop significant incremental profit for your business.
Designed with service departments in mind, these larger containers cut down on waste since trash cans won’t be filling up with empty 1-liter bottles. Additionally, the bladder design maximizes every last drop, further reducing waste.
The spigot on the front of the package allows you to quickly and easily pour just the right quantity, with no mess. Inside each bag is one of the Bel-Ray products dealers know and trust, and customers will know they are getting quality
products when they bring their bike in for service.
The list of products available in the 6-gallon size just got bigger with the addition of Bel-Ray’s mineral-based 10W-40 and 20W-50 engine oils. In addition to those, dealers can order shop-sized premium V-Twin Synthetic 10W-50, V-Twin Semi Synthetic 20W-50, Big Twin Transmission Oil and Primary Chaincase Lubricant. A rack program is also offered with a qualifying order. ■
» Have a talk with your Drag rep about using Bel-Ray’s Bag-in-Box products in your shop. You can find all options in the Tire & Service catalog and at www.dragspecialties.com.
