The Busy Summer of 2023

The Drag Specialties sales team was certainly busy over the summer. Starting in mid-July, the Drag reps and management were joined by a large contingent of LeMans employees for a salute to Fred Fox at the BRL races at Blackhawk Farms Raceway in South Beloit, Illinois. Then it was off to Milwaukee in late-July for Harley-Davidson’s 120th anniversary before heading west a few weeks later to the Black Hills of South Dakota for the Sturgis Rally. Finally, in late-August, the entire LeMans team was at the Monona Terrace in Madison for the annual North American NVP Product Expo. All of these events are covered in this issue of the magazine.

Speaking of Milwaukee, the LeMans Summer NVP is moving there in 2024. Years ago, when LeMans Corporation first started holding its annual vendor product introductions and training at the Monona Terrace, it seemed like there was lots of room and hotels. Not so any-

more. The NVP grew and grew, and again the convention hall had to utilize a second story ballroom. Like last year, it was filled to the brim, with some vendors still not able to participate. Same goes for hotels, there are just not enough rooms to fill the demand. In September of 2024, the Summer NVP will move to the Baird Convention Center in Milwaukee. Be sure to discuss this with your Drag Specialties sales rep for more details.

There’s lots of other good information in this issue. Be sure to check out the Event Report from the NVP that was just held, a look at the new Parts Canada warehouse in Calgary, BRL and MotoAmerica race repor ts, our Drag Specialties Magazine 30th anniversary story, news about the Drag Dealer Tour, Saddlemen’s year in Bagger racing, and more. ■

H. ANDREWS, OCTOBER 23, 1939 – AUGUST 4, 2023

John H. Andrews, founder and president of Andrews Products, a pioneering manufacturer of performance camshafts and engine components, passed away August 4, 2023. He was 83.

The longtime Drag Specialties vendor founded his company in 1972 and specialized in making American-made camshafts, pushrods, transmission gears and related parts for Harley-Davidson motorcycles. The company is recognized worldwide as a leader for its high-quality camshafts and other parts for both street and racing applications. It is well-known for using state-of-the-art engineering design

and manufacturing technology, and computer-controlled inspection equipment.

“John, without a doubt was a leader in grinding manufacturing and camshaft technology. John was a staple, and a helping hand in the motorcycle industry for 50-plus years,” wrote Feuling’s Luke Leatherman in an online memorial to Andrews. “Appreciate the many years of good business together and all you did for Feuling! Condolences to John’s people and work family. Godspeed.”

Andrews, of Des Plaines, Illinois, was born October 23, 1939, in Chicago to the late Joseph and Katherine (nee Arndt). He was the dear brother to Ted (Christine) Andrews and brother-in-law to Rita Andrews; he was the fond uncle to Ashley Palmer, Jennifer Quinn; loving great uncle to Andrew, Abigail, Maisie, and Brennan.

“John always had a smile and I enjoyed having many conversations with him over the years,” wrote Drag Specialties’ vendor relations expert Tom Motzko in the online memorial. “He seemed to have a calming effect, which always invited me to listen closer. I’m thinking many good thoughts for John and his friends and family.”

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Northwest Community Hospital or Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.oehlerfuneralhome.com for the Andrews family. ■

Mees Extends Title Lead with Dominant Black Hills Half-Mile

Reigning champion and Drag Specialties/Parts Unlimited/Indian rider Jared Mees fortified his Grand National Championship advantage with a trademark performance in the City of Sturgis Black Hills Half-Mile at Black Hills Speedway in Rapid City, South Dakota

Progressive American Flat Track took the spotlight at the 83rd Sturgis Motorcycle Rally on Sunday night, and of all of its superstars, Mees again shone the brightest. He looked nearly unbeatable entering the Mission SuperTwins presented by S&S Cycle Main and then proved those fears well founded as soon as the race began. He shot out into the lead from the pole and stretched out a sizable gap within a matter of laps, extinguishing any hopes of an upset as he did so.

“It was a good day for us. We knew we needed to come in and do exactly that. We were dominant all day long,” Mees said after the race.

As of press time, the series was headed to a showdown at Springfield where the Mission Super Twins presented by S&S Cycle champion was to be crowned. Mees was heading into the Labor Day weekend double header a mere one point ahead of Yamaha rider Dallas Daniels. ■

STURGIS REPORT

RALLY IN THE BLACK HILLS, AUGUST 4-13, 2023

The 83rd annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally is in the books, and once again, the Black Hills of South Dakota echoed with the thunderous roar of tens of thousands of V-Twins. By most accounts, the annual gathering saw crowds dip a bit from 2022 numbers – a drop that many attribute to cold and rainy weather.

However, that doesn’t mean that the agenda wasn’t jam-packed for those attending what’s known as the biggest “riding rally” in the world. You’d be hard pressed to find a bad ride in and around the Black Hills. Getting out on two wheels at Sturgis is usually the draw that keeps riders coming back each year (Oh, that and the epic biker parties.) Speaking of the latter, rallygoers had their choice of biker-flavored activities to attend, whether it was concerts at the Buffalo Chip, enjoying the old west appeal of Deadwood, or simply slow rolling the scene in downtown Sturgis.

For American Flat Track race fans, there was the City of Sturgis Black Hills Half-Mile at the Black Hills Speedway in Rapid City. Those in attendance got to see Drag Specialties/Parts Unlimited/Indian rider and reigning Grand National Champion Jared Mees dominate for another victory.

Given that the Sturgis Rally is a true riding event, it’s also a major buyer event for riders streaming in from around the country, and around the globe. The hotspot for V-Twin aftermarket action was at the “Rally at Exit 55” at Black Hills Harley-Davidson.

The Drag Specialties event truck was on hand with plenty of support from its leading vendors. As inspiration, the truck also showcased a collection of customized FatBook bikes, showing just what’s possible with a little imagination and those Drag Specialties catalogs.

From the slow rolling mass of bikers in downtown Sturgis and the happenings in Rapid City, to the old west appeal of nearby Deadwood and the vast riding areas of points beyond, the hills were alive with rallygoers aiming to have a rollicking good time.

With the rally spread out across the region, it’s impossible to get to all the events and activities during the Rally, but here’s a sampling of the sights and sounds of Sturgis. ■

Exclusive Training for Drag Dealers

TULSA, OKLAHOMA – JUNE 22, 2023

The Drag Specialties Dealer Training Tour came sweeping down Route 66 into Tulsa, Oklahoma in June where dealers enjoyed an evening of learning, dinner, discounts and prizes at the Red Fork Depot meeting center.

Upon arrival, the Drag Specialties big rig lured the gathered dealers to swing by for a look at the new lineup of FatBook bikes, and at all the parts and accessories used on the builds. The display signage allowed quick identity of parts by detailed description including the part number for quick reference.

Once inside the Red Fork Depot, dealers got to enjoy a spread of dinner and refreshments while mingling with one another, as well as the participating vendors for this leg of the 24-city Tour. The lineup included: Arai Helmets, Dunlop Tires, Performance Machine, Saddlemen and Yuasa Batteries. Dunlop kicked off the night’s presentations with detailed information about the company’s headquarters in Buffalo, New York and its own Dunlop Huntsville Alabama Proving Grounds track. Dealers then learned some tips about helping customers choose tires for the Harley-Davidson Pan

America, and learned about the company’s Pro Dealer Program.

Arai Helmets was next up with a presentation focusing on the manufacturing and quality of its helmets, and on its priority of “protection first” followed by comfort and fit. The company now has dealer display options with display racks that can hold eight to 24 helmets. This, combined with the online dealer locator program can direct customers to a store’s inventory.

During Yuasa’s presentation, the dealers learned about the company’s online battery locator that makes it easy for the service department to quickly match the correct battery for most motorcycle makes and models. There were also details given about the company’s GYZ battery, which is its highest CCA motorcycle battery. Yuasa also offers dealers digital battery print testers, which can be used to diagnose a customer’s battery health.

Saddlemen showcased the company’s seats, bags and accessories, and highlighted the benefits of the Saddlemen Gel-Core Technology. According to Saddlemen, this seating technology enables a rider to comfortably stay on the road significantly longer, while generating noticeably less road shock and road vibration. Saddlemen has also created a repair and replacement program called Cover Care Tokens. Customers can buy a Cover Care Token that can be used to return a torn or broken seat for repairs or upgrades.

The presentations were wrapped up by Performance Machine, which offered an exclusive discount for dealers attending the event. Dealers also learned more about the upsell opportunities with the PM Edition program. This program offers a range of packages that allow customers to accessorize a stock showroom bike with an array of Performance Machine products. It’s turnkey approach to creating a custom bike with PM parts before it leaves the dealership.

“This was our first Drag Specialties event. I got some great knowledge and pointers on sales and will definitely attend another,” said Nick Floyd, owner of NutBuster Bike Works in Langley, Oklahoma.

The Drag Specialties Exclusive Training Tour continues on through October with stops in the Southeast. Talk with your Drag rep for more details about attending if the tour is coming your way. ■

Revved Up to Rally

SALES STRONG AT STURGIS, HARLEY HOMECOMING A HIT

The summer of 2023 was a good time to be a V-Twin rider. In addition to the annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, the inaugural Harley-Davidson Homecoming Rally brought more than 130,000 enthusiasts to Milwaukee for four days of bike shows, concerts and more.

The crowd size at Sturgis was estimated at 460,000, which means that, between the two rallies, there were a lot of VTwin riders on the move throughout July and August.

And, although sources say Sturgis attendance was down this year – by about 8 percent, according to the city’s estimate – the overall outlook for the state of the V-Twin segment is strong. Not only did riders turn up, but they were eager to buy, too.

Mother Nature may have had a hand in that second part, at least at Sturgis. Drag Specialties/Parts Unlimited dual regional sales manager Greg Matter says, “The weather this year was wet and cold, especially to begin the rally. It was the wettest and coldest rally that I can remember and apparently had the second coldest high since 1938. However, the weather helped helmet and apparel sales, as we sold through most of

our Z1R helmets along with a good number of ICON and Arai helmets. Jackets, vests, gloves and especially rain gear also sold well from the Z1R and ICON brands.”

When asked whether the Harley Homecoming or the weather were responsible for this year’s Sturgis turnout, Drag Specialties’ vendor relations expert Tom Motzko is quick to note, “Sturgis is simply Sturgis. No matter what the weather or what rally is going on, people are still coming. It’s still the biggest, most fun event for motorcyclists. People plan their vacation around it.”

In other words, the hardcore riders are still going to show up, no matter what else is on the calendar or what the weather forecast says. And for a year that wasn’t a Rally milestone – as in, no 75th anniversary or something similar to celebrate – the attendance numbers really aren’t anything to worry about.

Rather, Matter points to the sales numbers as a sign of the V-Twin market’s health. “Considering the weather, it appears that overall sales numbers were good. And, as usual, our

team did an excellent job. I want to thank them all for giving up their time to help make this another successful rally. From the Drag Specialties rep team there was April Knapp, Benny Harwell, Kevin Hughes, Trixie Manka, Nick Stofel, Paolo Buell, and Trey Crouch. From Z1R, General Manager Jared Krueger and Brand Manager Jay Savignac; and from ICON, Brand Manager Kat Foster, Megan Lenhart and Nean Kiskela. And last, but certainly not least, Jerred Petcheny from Events.”

As for what was selling best, the answer might be a bit surprising. “One trend I noticed related to our sales was full-faced helmets, especially the modular Solaris helmet from Z1R, which sold out except for a handful of XXX sizes,” Matter says. While weather might have played a part, the full-face helmet sales also seemed to be driven by younger riders. Tom notes that he has observed a big uptick in the number of younger riders at Sturgis, both last year and this year, and they seem more likely to gear up than older V-Twin riders.

Riding has always been a big draw for Sturgis, since the surrounding area offers plenty of State Parks, monuments and generally gorgeous scenery. Harley offered Homecoming attendees a riding aspect of a slightly different sort, arranging “Ride In” meetups at dealerships along the roads leading to Milwaukee. Riders could meet at a set time to ride in a group and enjoy camaraderie on the way into the event.

There were definitely some standout models on the road at this summer’s rallies. Matter notes that “the Harley-Davidson Low Rider ST seemed to be everywhere. It definitely appears that Harley hit a home run with that model. The performance Bagger trend also appears to still be strong and driving sales in suspension, seats, windshields, engine and exhaust upgrades, and accessories.”

Motzko adds that he noticed more three-wheelers, too. At Sturgis, he says, “Dealers selling bikes sold their three-wheelers.” So not only were helmets a hit, but so were Trikes. Indians also seemed more numerous at Sturgis than in years past. Anyone who missed the double festivities this year doesn’t need to worry. Harley has already announced plans to make the Homecoming an annual event. The 2024 Homecoming will be held July 25-28.

The summer has left Motzko optimistic about the V-Twin segment. “From Drag’s standpoint, sales are good, people are excited about motorcycles and there are new models – and good ones – from Harley-Davidson and Indian coming out.”

The influx of younger riders is a good sign, too. “I saw a good representation of the next generation of V-Twin riders at the rally, and the passion and vision they bring is encouraging,” Matter says. “That, coupled with the fresh, innovative products our vendors continue to bring to market should keep things going strong into the future.” ■

A Day at the Races

EMPLOYEES TURN OUT FOR RACING, CAMARADERIE

Joining in with the festivities of the Bagger Racing League (BRL) 2023 Season Rounds 3 and 4, Parts Unlimited and Drag Specialties workers turned out at Blackhawk Farms Raceway for the LeMans Corporation Employee Appreciation Picnic.

Those attending the event at the track in South Beloit, Illinois not only caught a fantastic day of racing, they also enjoyed a picnic of food and refreshments at the famous Parts Unlimited hospitality semi-truck.

The day of racing kicked off with a lap around the track in honor of late LeMans Corporation founder Fred Fox. Leading the lap was Fred’s wife Paula Fox in a black convertible, followed by Paul Langley, LeMans Chairman and CEO, and Fred’s nephew, Alex Fox, and a large group of motorcyclists.

According to LeMans President Mike Collins, the event featured a huge turnout of LeMans employees who registered for and received complimentary wristbands for the day of racing and good times with friends and colleagues.

“Blackhawk Farms is a beautiful venue, the weather was perfect and the racing exciting. Only 35 minutes from Janesville, it was a great opportunity to spend some fun time with our employees and their families, many of whom had never been to a motorcycle race of any kind,” Collins said. “The question I was being asked at the end of the day was, ‘Can we do more of these?’ For me, like the other enthusiasts attending, there’s nothing better than sharing our passion with friends and family who have never experienced motorcycle competition and camaraderie.”

2023 Bagger Racing League Rounds

3 and 4

Following its record-attended kickoff race at the Pittsburgh International Raceway in May, the muchanticipated weekend at Blackhawk Farms in July didn’t disappoint.

Amidst a memorable moment of silence and tribute lap for Fred Fox, rounds three and four of the Bagger Racing League Battle of the Baggers delivered intense Bagger and pure V-Twin racing action.

Although the shorter, narrower course provided its own unique style of “fairing-to-fairing” racing, two of Bagger Racing League’s race teams, Trask Performance and Lloydz Garage entered a classic Harley-Davidson versus Indian dogfight that would have fans on the edge of their seats and glued to their televisions all weekend long.

“After two first place finishes in both the Bagger GP and Pro Stock classes in Pittsburgh, we knew the crosshairs would be on us for Blackhawk,” said team owner and president Nick Trask of Trask Performance. “The crowds came out in force; the atmosphere was electric, and we were glad to have extended our series lead heading into the last two races.”

Trask Performance wasn’t the only team to grab multiple first place finishes in Blackhawk. Indian performance gurus Tim Sutherland, Lloyd Greer and their team took top position in both the Big Twins and American Twins Unlimited classes, further fueling the intense, 100-plus year rivalry between the two iconic American motorcycle manufacturers.

“The race classes and regulations of the Bagger Racing League allow for a good mix of motorcycles and parity in each race, said Tim Sutherland, owner and president of Lloydz Garage. “On the Indian side, our bikes have bigger displacement and a bit more into the suspension and other components. And on the Harley side, Trask has smaller displacement, but have Nick’s legendry turbo charge systems which make them scary fast. We’re all having a great time at these BRL races.”

Bagger Racing League will now shift gears and hold the final 5th and 6th rounds of Drag Specialties Battle of the Baggers at the famed Willow Springs International Raceway in Rosamond, California November 18th, and 19th to complete the 2023 season. ■

PARTS CANADA EXPANDS INTO LARGER FACILITY

NEW CALGARY WAREHOUSE PROVIDES RANGE OF BENEFITS TO DEALERS

Since first opening in 1999 Parts Canada has continually expanded, outgrowing locations as the years passed on. Now, Parts Canada – Drag Specialties is proud to announce its latest move and the official opening of its new western distribution centre in Calgary, Alberta.

The new warehouse in Calgary offers more than 190,000 square feet of usable space, with 27 loading docks. Combined with the 170,000 square foot warehouse in London, Ontario, Parts Canada now has more than 360,000 square feet of space available for shipping, receiving and inventory stocking that is serviced by a combined 52 loading docks.

This incredible capacity makes it possible for Parts Canada to serve its dealers more efficiently than any other Canadian distributor. And with increased docks in Calgary offering more outbound service, it supports the western regions with quicker turn-around times and offers better solutions for next-day regional service.

Parts Canada can now carry even more brands, parts and accessories. The new location features new automation for more efficient shipping processes.

Parts Canada previously managed approximately 70 percent of its inventory in London, Ontario, but with the new facility in operation it will split the inventory evenly, with 40 percent more SKUs now shipping out of Calgary than before. The move also means that Parts Canada can carry even more brands, parts and accessories; impressive news given the record amount already carried today with the company operating in all powersports segments as well as the E-Bike market. “More brands, more parts and more inventory, creates more opportunity and stronger fill rates, benefitting all of Parts Canada’s dealers as well as the consumers they sell to,” said Parts Canada President James Danyluk.

The new warehouse in Calgary will be largely automated like the current London warehouse. Picking by region and using automated pack-sized boxing machines reduces packaging waste and costs, as well as reduced freight costs. These savings are also passed down to the customer.

The Calgary location will also implement new automation with state-of-the-art robotic skid movers and pack-to-box picking technology, which eliminates one step of the shipping process. Again, benefiting customers with lower costs and quicker turn-around times from order to ship.

Parts Canada is dedicating the next 12 months to further development of automation and state-of-the-art technology

and is currently employing more people to facilitate this continued growth. “This expansion is just the beginning of the many great things to come to serve our valued customers and the powersports industry even better,” Danyluk said.

Parts Canada is owned by LeMans Corporation, the global leader in distribution for the powersports industry. It is proud to be in the company of Parts Unlimited, Parts Europe and Drag Specialties as well as the other brands that are all part of the grand vision of their late founder, Fred Fox. ■

What if your dealership could send a customer home with two motorcycles for the price of a single bike? Too good to be true? Perhaps, but the FatBook Bike featured here reveals how you can help customers slide into the saddle of a bike that offers two different and distinct riding styles – all for the price of a simple customization makeover. It all starts with Drag Specialties FatBook

When Drag Specialties’ design team set about converting a 2018 Harley-Davidson FLHR Road King to join the 2023 Drag Specialties Dealer Training Tour, the mission statement specified several key points. Foremost was to showcase some all-new products, such as Cobra’s new 4.5-inch NH Series Chrome Body Mufflers, Vance & Hines’ chrome *VO2 America Air Intake and updated *FP4 Fuelpak to help maintain 49-state EPA compliancy. A bevy of other new parts, plus popular existing FatBook components, found their way onto the bike.

Chief among those upgrades are front and rear Performance Machine 18x5.5-inch Paramount Chrome wheels wrapped with Pirelli’s Night Dragon 180/55-18 tires. That

setup gives the bike a truly unique stance. As Rob Bluma, Drag’s Central Regional Manager puts it, “Low and lean.” He and Tom Motzko, Drag’s Vendor Development Manager, set the tone for the bike’s styling theme.

That paved the way for the build crew, led by Joe Houpt and his seasoned techs at Suburban Motors HarleyDavidson to deliver a bike that was custom in appearance and road worthy in performance, all while sticking with the bike’s standard Vivid Black factory paint job.

The Road King’s Milwaukee-Eight engine received a Performance Machine Chrome Vision cam cover. The crew chose a Rekluse Radius X clutch kit to help maximize the M8’s power before turning to other custom bolt-ons, including PM’s Black Ops derby cover, and chrome heel/ toe shifter with matching rear brake pedal.

PM brake and clutch hand controls with matching switch housings matched the styling theme, along with PM hand grips with LED turn signals. PM also got the call for its Superlight driver floorboards with matching mini passenger floorboards.

At a glance this 2018 Road King looks to be a typical custom Bagger. But when equipped with select detachable touring and custom accessories, the bike transforms into a front-line street custom. All bolt-ons are found in the FatBook.
MOTOR VEHICLES

A ROAD KING THAT’S ROAD-WORTHY AND SHOW-WORTHY

PM chrome front rotors are joined by RC Components Torx brake rotor bolts, and the new chrome parts were complemented by other new black custom parts such as the Arlen Ness Pro Sport fat front fender that helps underscore the big Pirelli tire’s hot rod profile. Suspension upgrades rely on Legend Suspension’s AXEO standard springs for the 49mm front fork that anchors PM Speedstar Black Ops front brake rotors. Legend’s Air-A rear suspension smooths the ride at the rear.

The Road King retains its OEM saddlebags that are easily and conveniently detachable, and that brings us to this FatBook bike’s key aftermarket element – detachable touring items that, when removed, results in a mild-custom Harley ready to take its place at bike night.

The detachable aftermarket bolt-ons include the Cobra USA chrome backrest, backrest docking kit, and chrome flip-up detachable luggage rack. In addition, the Klock Werks Flare Billboard tint windshield – popular among Big Twin touring riders – is bolted onto the bike’s OE easy-off detachable mounting system. Simply replace the stock windshield with the Klock Werks tinted screen for a unique custom look.

These convertible components help create a touring bike that, once the rider rumbles into town after a longhaul tour, can be stripped to reveal its collection of new custom components. Not a bad deal for the bike owner who traveled in comfort and style to the rally, then did a quick-change in the motel parking lot so that his bike blends in with other customized Harleys at the rally. The bike looks as if it rode cross town, not cross country. Bluma notes that they really upped the fun factor by adding a host of custom LED lighting upgrades from Custom Dynamics. These “fun items” provide a nice pop of light and color for road-going customs like this Road King.

So, there you have it. A long-haul touring bike that, when quickly stripped to the bare essentials, becomes an around-town custom that anybody can duplicate, or simply use as a guide to building a completely unique two-in-one custom ride. The place to start? Your Drag Specialties rep and that trusted FatBook. ■

Oversize 18-inch Pirelli Night Dragon tires wrapped around Performance Machine’s Paramount Chrome wheels help give the bike its low and lean look. Premium Performance

High-Quality Oil for a Range of V-Twins

Motorcycles continually evolve, as do the products made for them. Drag Specialties has a line of high-performance motorcycle oils and fluids formulated specifically for V-Twins. It’s a range that covers decades of models and bike styles and is one your customers should consider for maintaining their V-Twin bikes.

Drag’s V-Twin engine oils are designed for bikes that need extra protection from heat and higher rpms. The formulas are also designed to provide smooth shifting and clutch engagement.

Drag Specialties Premium Synthetic 20W-50 DS3 oil can be used as the motor, primary and transmission oil. The additives included in the formula create exceptional viscosity, stability and lasting anti-oxidation qualities. Dealers can get the oil in the 1-quart size, which is ideal for customer purchase, or opt for the 1-gallon or 55-gallon drum sizes, which are great for having in the service department.

Indian models haven’t been forgotten, either. Drag Specialties Premium Synthetic 15W-60 and 20W-40 are both designed to be multi-fill lubricants for Indian Motorcycle models. The oils provide excellent engine protection and enhance clutch performance.

Additionally, Drag Specialties offers six mineral-based engine oils. Three of them – 20W-60, 20W-50 and 10W-40 – are designed for V-Twins being ridden in various ambient temperatures. The SAE 50, SAE 60 and SAE 70 mineral oils are specifically formulated for pre-Evolution V-Twins, with the three options covering various operating temperatures. Other V-Twin options from Drag Specialties include two types of transmission oil for Big Twins. There is a Premium Synthetic 80W-140 as well as a High-Performance Mineral 80W-90. Sportsters get special treatment from the High-Performance Mineral Gear and Chaincase Oil. There are also brake fluid, mineral fork oil and fuel stabilizers, all designed for V-Twins. Fresh oil goes hand-in-hand with a fresh filter. There are tons of applications for Drag’s high-quality spin-on oil filters, and chrome and black housings help riders match their bike’s style.

If it’s time for a new air filter, too, Drag has options that include replacement and reusable ones. The air filters pair with the stock housings, making them an easy, affordable replacement. ■

Classic, Inside and Out Tubes

and

While tire technology has advanced, sometimes doing things the old-fashioned way is still what works best. For a lot of laced wheels, the retro style isn’t just on the outside. Getting a classic look often requires going with a classic tire design, which means tubes. Drag Specialties carries two different styles of tubes as well as rim strips and other necessities for getting that classic spokedwheel look, both inside and out.

Drag Specialties tubes are made from high-quality, heavyduty rubber, so riders can trust they will stand up to the job. Drag offers these tubes in various widths to fit 16-inch through 19-inch rims, as well as 21-inch rims. Among the sizes are some for extra-wide wheel applications, which is a convenient choice for custom bike builders.

Most recently, Drag Specialties has added another option for a 16-inch rim which will fit 5.0-inch to 5.10-inch widths as well as 180/65 tires. It comes with an SRV-type valve stem.

For riders who want an especially rugged tube, Drag Specialties Premium heavy-duty inner tubes have a 2mm thickness, which is significantly more robust than the typical 1.2mm thickness for tubes. This durable rubber tube has increased puncture resistance, and it is available in sizes to fit 16-inch, 19-inch and 21-inch rim sizes. With spoked wheels, the spokes themselves can be as much of a puncture risk as the hazards of the road. Drag Specialties has heavy-duty rim strips that provide a great barrier between the spoke nipples and the tubes.

For tubeless tires, Drag Specialties also offers replacement valve stems. The metal stems come in either a chrome or anodized finish. The rubber seal fits the standard 0.30-inch or 0.24-inch valve stem holes.

Like the tubes themselves, the rim strips come in sizes for the major rim diameters as well as various widths. Each rim strip is made of a high-quality rubber that adds a significant extra barrier between the wheel and the tube. Before using a tube, you need a wheel to go with it. Drag Specialties has laced wheels in a wide variety of diameters, widths and finishes to suit everyone from the custom bike builder to a rider going for a classic look.

For tubeless tires, Drag Specialties also offers replacement valve stems. The stems are made from metal, which comes in either a chrome or anodized finish to match the look of the rest of the motorcycle. The rubber seal fits neatly over the standard 0.30-inch or 0.24-inch valve stem holes. ■

Battle Royale

FIGHT FOR THE 2023 MISSION KING OF THE BAGGERS CHAMPIONSHIP

Three measly points are all that separates the top three in the heated battle for the 2023 Mission King of the Baggers Championship with two rounds and four races left on the calendar as of press time.

The man with the three-point lead as the series prepares for the penultimate round at the Circuit of The America is Vance & Hines/Mission/Harley-Davidson’s Hayden Gillim. The two men giving chase are Harley-Davidson’s Kyle Wyman and Gillim’s teammate James Rispoli. All three have had crazily consistent seasons and Wyman is the only one in the top three with a DNF on his scorecard.

Gillim earned his 175-point total with two wins, two seconds, three thirds, two fourths and a fifth with his two wins coming in the second half of the championship at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca and Brainerd International Raceway. Wyman, the 2021 Mission King of the Baggers Champion, has the most wins of the three, but he also has a DNF. Wyman arrived at his 172 points via five wins and only one other podium finishes, a third in race one at Road America. Wyman is coming off a weekend at Brainerd where he finished fourth and fifth in the two races. He also has a ninth-place finish on his points tally. Wyman knows how to win as he is the all-time win leader in the class with 10 victories.

Wyman is tied for second with the personable Rispoli, with the Florida resident only winning one race, but boasting six

other podium finishes. Like Wyman, Rispoli has 172 points. With the top three all riding Harley-Davidson Road Glides, the first of the Indian Challengers is the one ridden by Bobby Fong. Fong is 45 points behind Gillim, but has proven capable of winning on any given day as evidenced by his two wins thus far in 2023. (Road America and Brainerd). Fong has three other podium finishes so far this year.

Defending series champion Tyler O’Hara is next and fifth in the championship, and is surprisingly winless this season so far. O’Hara does have three second-place finishes and two third places, but he is seven points behind Fong and 52 behind his rival Kyle Wyman.

Mission King of the Baggers rookie Jake Lewis sits sixth in the championship and has scored in every round, but has yet to reach the podium.

The second of the two factory Indians and Harley-Davidsons have also had disappointing seasons with Jeremy McWilliams ninth and Travis Wyman 10th, respectively. The two rounds remaining are at Circuit of The Americas, where the big Vtwins will really get to stretch their legs, and the somewhat tricky New Jersey Motorsports Park where O’Hara earned his title last year over Travis Wyman in a winner-take-all finale.

No matter who comes out of this ultra-tight championship battle, it’s going to be two races you can’t miss and a September to remember. ■

Bigger Bagger Racing: Going Bigger

THE SEASON SO FAR FOR TEAM SADDLEMEN

Bagger racing continues to grow in popularity, and growing right alongside it is Team Saddlemen. After campaigning two riders in the first two full seasons of Mission King of the Baggers, Team Saddlemen added another two riders for 2023.

Currently, Team Saddlemen is the largest team in Mission King of the Baggers. Jake Lewis and Frankie Garcia have joined Cory West and Patricia Fernandez West on the team this season, and all of them are campaigning highly modified 2023 HarleyDavidson Road Glides. At select rounds, the team is also racing three Harley-Davidson Pan Americas.

It makes for a busy schedule, but Team Saddlemen seems to thrive under tight deadlines. The Daytona 200 kicks off the motorcycle racing season every March, but the Road Glides weren’t delivered to Saddlemen until January 27. The complete list of parts didn’t arrive for another three weeks.

To speed things along, Patricia even took on the role of delivery driver, loading up the motors and transmissions in a minivan, then driving overnight to deliver them to the team. From there, the Team Saddlemen crew got to work building the four Road Glides, plus two of the Pan Americas. Saddlemen President/CEO David Echert says the team worked day and night to get everything together in time for that first practice session at Daytona. “We got to Daytona and we were

still trying to get two of them built in the pits, but we did get them built,” David says proudly.

The bikes had been built in time for the season opener, but the work was just getting started for the team riders. Cory and Patricia piloted Harleys throughout 2020 and 2021, but Team Saddlemen was on Indians for 2022. When Harley came knocking during the off-season, though, the team agreed to switch back. The Harley deal made Team Saddlemen a factorybacked privateer team.

“Harley-Davidson has done a good job on this platform,” David notes. At Daytona, the riders had to get used to that platform quickly. “We’re dialing the bikes in, and at each race, we get better and faster. We found that the harder you ride them, the easier it is to control.”

The 2023 season has been quite a learning experience for Team Saddlemen, and not just when it comes to dialing in the new Road Glides. Even something as straightforward as upgrading to a team semi had its challenges, like learning what to pack in it.

Team Saddlemen also grew to a team of 16 people this year. That meant it was more important than ever to know each team member’s role and what they were responsible for. Each of the four Road Glides has a dedicated mechanic and support crew. Add in the three Pan Americas on select weekends, and that’s seven bikes to keep track of.

40 DRAG SPECIALTIES MAGAZINE ★ OCTOBER 2023 COVER STORY
Team Saddlemen, from left: Heath Pinter, Alex Oppermann, Ryan Cost, Travis Blasier, Cory West, Mike Maloney, Kento Okentani, Frankie Garcia, John Sanders, David Echert, Kris Echert, John Dahmer, Beau Bergene, Jake Lewis, Dylan Jones, Rob Schlueter, Patricia Fernandez-West, Mat Virgil, Eric Vallarta, and Sean Delshadi.

Feeding all those team members has to be carefully planned, too. Team Saddlemen rolls out its own hospitality program, cooking and making sure everyone has a chance to relax and recharge. The team had already proved how skilled they are – and how well they perform under pressure – by getting the Road Glides built in such a short time before Daytona, but they proved it again when the series visited Laguna Seca for round 4. David says Laguna Seca is one of the team’s favorite tracks to visit. Not only is the legendary track a great venue for the Baggers, but it’s also the closest track on the schedule to Saddlemen’s headquarters in Rancho Dominguez, California. Unfortunately, this year, it was also where Cory had a dramatic crash. Cory was okay, but his bike wasn’t. The team promptly got to work rebuilding it, and Cory was back on track the next day.

As the 2023 Mission King of the Baggers season winds down, David is pleased with Team Saddlemen’s year so far. The growth of the team has resulted in a lot more experience, and Team Saddlemen is on track to secure top-10 spots in the championship.

The competition has gotten tougher, but David welcomes the challenge. “Three years ago, no one had even thought about racing the Baggers,” he says. “Each year, they get a little faster, to where now they’re a second or two off the fastest bikes in MotoAmerica. At Daytona they were going 180mph on the banks!”

The popularity of the series has resulted in increased popularity for the parts used on the race bikes. David notes that the custom Saddlemen seats on their Road Glides, as well as the factory backing from Harley, has prompted dealers to stock more of their seats. The custom race seats are designed to position the riders up and over the tank, and their styling evokes flat track seat styles.

Building a race bike is about a lot more than the seat, of course, and Team Saddlemen works with a lot of partners to get the Road Glides competitive. Mission Foods, K&N, Dark Horse, Hoban Brothers, Barnett Clutches, Alloy Art and Bell Helmets are all team partners. ■

SEASON LAUNCH!

2023 NORTH AMERICAN NVP PRODUCT EXPO

MADISON, WISCONSIN – AUGUST 19-20

For many in the Drag Specialties world, the Monona Terrace cuts a familiar figure across the shoreline of Lake Monona in Madison, Wisconsin. After all, the striking Frank Lloyd Wright-designed convention space has served as home to the LeMans Corporation’s heralded fall sales show for about two decades.

And, once again, that iconic locale was the epicenter of the powersports aftermarket when the 2023 version of the North American NVP Product Expo opened its doors to dealers and reps from Drag Specialties, Parts Unlimited and Parts Canada for two busy days in August.

As in past years, the show offered the opportunity to get an up-close-and-personal look at the exciting new

parts, accessories and apparel coming from a big lineup of popular vendors in the FatBook, OldBook and other LeMans catalogs. Not only does the show offer hands-on experiences, it also features a number of educational opportunities from some of those same vendors. This year dealers got to hear from Arlen Ness, Custom Dynamics, Legend Suspensions and S&S Cycle.

LeMans’ growing E-Bike business also got a boost with the introduction of the new iGO Electric seven-model lineup. The new range of E-Bikes joins the rapidly expanding Bicycle catalog alongside the full suspension INTENSE Tazer MX range, and a big selection of parts, accessories and apparel. the massive range of powersports products spread across two show spaces on two floors of the convention center. As much as the show is about new products, it’s also about meeting old friends, making new ones and nurturing the kind of relationships that stretch across decades. To that end, the popular Michelin Jam returned to the Majestic Theater in downtown Madison to showcase the deep musical talent that exists within the LeMans universe.

Another popular event is the Meet & Greet reception and bike show held on the Monona Terrace Rooftop Deck. The weather this year was spectacular and made for a great night out socializing and checking out custom machines.

While the show marked the annual return of Drag Specialties and Parts Unlimited dealers and sales reps, Parts Canada, dealers, reps and management, and LeMans Corporation staff and personnel to Wisconsin’s capital city, it was also something of a farewell. This marked the last year the NVP would be held in Madison at the Monona Terrace, as the fall show is moving to Milwaukee in September 2024. YEARS SPECIAL FEATURE

While reflecting on key happenings during the 30 years we have published Drag Specialties Magazine, one very significant topic came along in 2018…the 50th anniversary of the Drag Specialties company. The story has been told many times how the company name was chosen. Tom Rudd and a few friends were into drag racing and they had a little workshop where their worked on their race bikes. To help pay for their racing expenses, they also took in repairs and speed tuning work from others. The business didn’t have an official name until the day someone called on the phone, and asked “Is this Drag Specialties?” Rudd thought for a moment and replied, “Yes, it is.” The rest is history.

Rudd’s business grew as they expanded outside the world of speed tuning and drag racing with numerous products to personalize Harleys. Custom chopper-style seats became a huge business, along with chrome plated handlebars, exhaust systems and other items popular with v-twin riders. Drag Specialties continued under Rudd’s

leadership until 1968 when Fred Fox made the deal for LeMans Corporation to acquire the company.

When Drag Specialties was celebrating its 50th anniversary, we devoted each of the six issues that year to a topic related to the anniversary. The first issue of 2018 was an overview of the early years. The next Drag issue showcased some vendors who began selling products through Drag right from the start, and still are. Then came the third Drag issue with a feature story about their original seat supplier named E&S Coach and Saddlery Extraordinaire. The name would later be shortened to Drag Specialties Seats.

Longtime dealers and sales reps were the theme for issue 4, followed by stories in issue 5 about some of the custom builders that Drag worked with thru the years. And finally, in issue 6, the topic was looking ahead. The front cover of that issue included photos of two old friends that we lost along the way…Drag Specialties National Sales Manager Jim Matchette and custom builder Tank Ewsichek from Tuff Cycle. ■

LEMANS LAUNCHES NEW RANGE OF E-BIKES

iGO ELECTRIC MODELS OFFER MORE OPTIONS FOR MORE RIDERS

Expanding on the company’s already substantial E-Bike offerings, LeMans Corporation – parent company of Drag Specialties and Parts Unlimited –has partnered with iGO Electric to offer a range of seven new E-Bike models exclusively for its dealers.

Thanks to the new partnership, Parts Unlimited and Drag Specialties dealers will now be able to offer their customers a wide selection of iGO E-Bike models as well as a host of OE replacement parts and complementary accessories. The iGO line joins the rapidly expanding Bicycle catalog alongside the full suspension INTENSE Tazer MX electric mountain bikes and the full selection of parts, accessories and apparel offered by some of the leading vendors in the E-Bike market.

Dealers attending the North American NVP Product Expo in Madison, Wisconsin got their first look at the range of E-Bikes, which includes two step-through Urban/Leisure models, two hybrid Urban/Leisure models, an all-road E-trekking model, a hardtail electric mountain bike, and a fat-tire hardtail electric mountain bike. The models are the Discovery Rosemont LE, the Discovery Rosemont LS, the Discovery Yorkville LE, the Discovery Yorkville LS, the Outland Cabot RS, the Outland Sawback RS, and the Outland Torngat RS.

“The lineup allows us to fulfill the needs of urban commuter bicycle riders, and all terrain riders who don’t desire a full

suspension INTENSE model,” said LeMans buyer Nicholas Shepherd. “It’s a range of bicycles that are built well, serviceable and compatible with a major portion of the current Bicycle catalog offerings.”

With the seven-bike lineup, Parts Unlimited and Drag Specialties dealers can reach more customers with a variety of iGO models that are competitively priced, suitable for all ages, sizes and riding styles. The lineup’s “One Size Fits Most” design means an easy level of inventory management for dealers.

The line is also designed to complement the INTENSE Tazer MX range since there is no direct competing model. The bikes are backed by iGO’s noted easy serviceability, factory warranty and direct customer service. With 17 years experience, iGO Electric is a Canadian E-Bike company building high-quality purpose built electric bikes at an accessible price.

One major feature of the iGO line is that it is extremely versatile when it comes to the various classifications under which E-Bikes operate – Class 1, Class 2 and Class 3. For example, Class 1 E-Bikes feature a pedal-assist motor that can reach speeds up to 20 mph; Class 2 E-Bikes feature a throttle which provides a boost without pedaling up to 20 mph; and Class 3 E-Bikes that are pedal-assist up to 28 mph.

With any E-Bike, batteries are a major part of the setup, that’s why each of the iGO bikes features an industry-leading 720Wh Samsung removable battery. With that 720Wh capacity, your customers are less likely to experience “range anxiety” whether they’re commuting to work, hitting their city’s bike trails, shopping or simply out enjoying two wheels. Their integrated design helps with stable, smoother ride while a security lock keeps things buttoned down.

Thanks to the Multi-Class Switchable System, customers can easily switch between the three classes via a smartphone app. With the iGO mobile app, customer can create adjustable, customizable performance profiles for a truly unique, and personalized on-road and off-road feel for rid-

ers. And when it comes to the pedal assist feature of these bikes, the iGO models feature five-levels of assist — Eco, Tour, Sport, Turbo, and Boost.

The app also provides motor and controller updates to ensure the bikes are performing at the top of their abilities. The app features a dynamic in-wide dashboard showing key information like speed, power and battery life, and tracks riding trends and ride analytics. It can even be used for navigation and allows system diagnostics. Dealership techs can also access the iGO app to review bike-riding history, maintenance issues, battery health and other trouble-shooting features.

“The beauty of iGO is that is the perfect bike for someone that may not consider themselves a bike rider,” said Mike Ralph, E-Bike Category Manager for Parts Unlimited. “They are comfortable, simple to learn, and can change minds about what it means go ride a bike. Getting around town is fun, getting off-road is easy and the budget leaves a lot to fund your customers’ other adventures.” ■

BRING ON THE E-BIKES

For dealers who are already operating in the E-Bike space, carrying the INTENSE Tazer MX line and offering products from the Bicycle catalog, or for those looking to jump into the market, the addition of the iGO Electric seven-bike range offers an attractive proposition.

Not only does the iGO range feature models that fit all related powersports customers, it also offers a more “consumer oriented” product line for those customers out there simply looking to jump onto an E-Bike, either for commuting or recreation — or both. With the addition of the iGO OE replacement parts, it even answers the serviceability question for a new selection of vehicles.

And now would be a great time to add another two-wheeled option to your store’s product lineup. According to a 2022 study commissioned by the bicycle advocacy group People for Bikes, 34 percent of Americans actively ride their bikes, a number up from previous years. And, as cities across the country work to create better biking infrastructure, more riders are using their bikes as transportation (54 percent) than ever before.

Of course, for those dealers looking to expand their E-Bike range or add on a new vehicle segment, the keys to success are the same — they should be dedicating resources to the category such as staff training and floor space, says Mike Ralph. They should also be willing to put in time and effort to nurture a new category, he adds. Of course, as it is with the powersports business, putting some passion behind the product also helps.

“The absolute best way to incorporate an E-Bike line into your business is to share the experience,” Ralph says. “This can be as simple as creating a safe parking lot test ride to leading off-road adventures.”

As the general manager of Carl’s Cycle Sales in Boise, Idaho, Chris Kasel knows a thing or two about adding on an E-Bike line. The multiline dealership has carried E-Bikes for about three years, adding the INTENSE line right when Parts Unlimited launched its Bicycle catalog, in addition to bringing on some models from the OEMs. Before jumping in, Kasel says the dealership knew that there was already a built-in demand from its customer base and the store itself had several employees — including the owner — who were cyclists on both regular pedal bikes and pedal assist bikes. It was also helpful that Boise is known as an active bicycling community and there’s a really good trail network in the Treasure Valley.

“We knew it was going to be a good fit. We had six or eight guys here who ride weekly,” he says. “I think that’s one of the reasons why we’ve been so successful, it’s a passion like with the powersports side. We have guys who ride and can connect with the customers.”

Having enthusiasts on staff is essential fostering a successful E-Bike line he says, adding that those employees who are excited about the products and actively use them are important for educating customers who may have never been on a pedalassist (or otherwise) E-Bike before.

“With pedal assists, one of the first steps is to get people on the bikes. If they’ve never been on one, they really don’t understand,” he says. “But, if they can go ride one in the parking lot for a bit, they come back with a smile on their face, going, ‘Wow.’”

Bright Lights, High Tech Headlight Upgrades for Harleys

Riding at night is a whole lot easier – and brighter – with headlights from Custom Dynamics. The company offers a number of headlights and mounting solutions for Harley-Davidson riders who want a great view of the road ahead, even after the sun has set.

The Custom Dynamics 5.75-inch LED Halo headlight starts with a projection-style high/low beam paired with advanced optical D lenses. The result is a smooth, white beam pattern and an outstanding field of vision. To add to the

looks and brilliance, a white halo light acts as an additional running light. The low beam and halo both remain on when the high beam is activated for maximum illumination.

Riders who want the bright white LEDs, but not the halo feature can opt for the Custom Dynamics 5.75-inch halofree LED motorcycle headlight. It has all the same great perks as its halo-included counterpart.

The ProBEAM line from Custom Dynamics features the latest in lighting technology, and the ProBEAM 5.75-inch LED headlamp for Harleys has a sleek, modern die-cast aluminum housing to match the modern technology inside.

The low beam is comprised of three high-powered advanced optical D lenses and a position light. When the high beam is engaged, the low beam remains on, but it is joined by an additional two LEDs with advanced optical D lenses and three LEDs with projector lenses. This combination creates a wide light pattern, so customers can see both ahead and to either side. Riders can choose from a Chrome or True Black finish for this plug-and-play light.

Riders who demand the highest possible visibility and the absolute latest in lighting tech will want to opt for the ProBEAM Adaptive 2 5.75-inch LED headlamp. The adaptive part refers to the built-in sensors, which detect when the motorcycle is leaning through a turn. The lights reposition themselves in sync with the bike’s angle. This provides superior illumination through corners, and the adaptive technology works with both the high and low beam. Additionally, the light’s high beam reaches 1,500 feet down the road, so it’s easy to see what’s coming both in a straight line and through the corners.

Custom Dynamics also has mounting solutions for 2018 to current Softail models. The 5.75-inch Softail headlight bucket replaces the OEM bucket. This swap enables a 5.75inch Custom Dynamics or ProBEAM headlight to be added, and the headlight bucket has the plug and play functionality that Custom Dynamics products are known for.

Custom Dynamics also offers a mounting block for the 5.75-inch Softail headlight bucket as well as a billet aluminum headlight bracket for Low Rider S models.

The latest mounting solution is a Low Rider ST headlight mounting kit, which allows the OEM headlight to be replaced with the ProBEAM 5.75-inch headlight, without any drilling or modifications required. ■

Ten Years of THRASHIN Driven by Innovation

Innovation often entails altering things to serve a purpose better, or combining ideas that already exist to create something new. With that definition in mind, innovative is an undeniably good way to describe Lance Coury and his THRASHIN Supply Company, which is entering its 10th year of business in 2024. From its moto-style gloves and premium bike components to its lineup of compact and versatile luggage, THRASHIN has developed a range of original products that appeal to a new generation of riders.

Coury’s creativity was on display long before he founded THRASHIN in 2014. Leading up to and overlapping with THRASHIN’s creation, Coury was a top-level Freestyle Motocross rider with X-Games medals to his name. Wowing the judges and spectators meant coming up with impressive tricks, and executing those gravity defying stunts required inventing all sorts of custom parts for Coury’s dirt bike.

“In Freestyle you need a lot of parts that don’t exist,” says Coury. Custom subframes and foot and hand holds were required to allow Coury to pull off backflip combinations and other maneuvers, and often he was making those parts himself. “My stepfather is a machinist, and I was always in the machine shop working on parts for my bike. When a new bike came out, I’d have to rework the parts to fit the new model.”

That early experience in the shop helped establish the innovative thinking and problem-solving skills that would

later lead to popular THRASHIN products like the Stealth Gloves, TSC Bolt Grips and Essential Saddlebags. However, Coury’s first V-Twin product was just a simple top clamp.

“The whole time I was doing Freestyle I was also really into V-Twins,” recalls Coury. “I loved the raw, old-school feeling, and cruising with my friends was relaxing. Freestyle was competitive, but riding with my buddies was just fun, and I needed that.”

60 DRAG SPECIALTIES MAGAZINE ★ OCTOBER 2023 PRODUCT SHOWCASE PARTS & ACCESSORIES
THRASHIN founder Lance Coury may have made his mark as a professional Freestyle Motocross rider, but it was with V-Twins where he found his passion – and his business. His first V-Twin –a springer chopper – back in 2007. Lance, his wife Courtney and their newborn Luca in 2016 in front of a shipment of the first big THRASHIN product release, a handlebar bag.

Even if Coury was cruising his Harley as an escape from competition, his creativity was still at work. “‘THRASHIN was a phrase me and my buddies used, so at one point I started making some top clamps with “THRASHIN” engraved on the top and gave them out to my friends. I made those first ones from chunks of billet from the scrap bin at the shop; it was just for fun,” recalls Coury. “Then my buddies’ friends asked for clamps, and someone asked if I could make footpegs.

“I got my business license in 2014, and invested $5,000 with the hope of making enough parts to be able to rent a house at Sturgis for my crew. In the beginning THRASHIN was just me, my wife Courtney, and my father-in-law. I never imagined I’d end up with 18 fulltime employees, our own building, and a business that provides for my family.”

As Coury transitioned from a professional Freestyle rider to a business owner, his moto background helped influence THRASHIN’s first truly innovative product. “I was riding my Harley in my dirtbike gloves, because that’s what I had in the garage and that’s what I was comfortable in. I never really wanted to wear the traditional bulky leather gloves, and none of my buddies did either, so a lot of them just didn’t wear gloves.”

“We all wanted the same thing: A sleek, black motostyle glove,” recalls Coury. So, he set about making it. The original Stealth glove had the fit and style Coury and his crew wanted, but without the flashy designs and bright colors popular in motocross. “It was just black, with the THRASHIN logo on it,” says Coury. “We added touch screen fingertips, so it was really functional.”

Next came the Essential Saddlebags, which again were an innovation driven by Coury and his friends’ desire for a combination of features that didn’t exist. “It seemed like all the saddlebags were big and leather and studded, and all we wanted was something small and lightweight to hold the essentials for a day ride to the coast,” recalls Coury.

The simplicity and versatility of the all-textile Essential Saddlebags was still new in the V-Twin world, and the bags’ originality helped make them a hit. The sleek and lightweight design also spawned other luggage models including the Escape, Expedition and Passenger bags, which allow your customers to tailor their cargo capacity to fit their needs, all without ruining the look of their bikes.

“Everyone here at THRASHIN rides,” says Coury, “Everything we bring to market is something someone here wanted to use themselves, so we created it.” Ten trips to Sturgis and loads of local miles have helped keep the creative juices flowing.

Innovation is baked into the THRASHIN brand. It’s what helped Coury become an X-Games winner, and ten years on it’s what keeps THRASHIN at the forefront of the VTwin industry. ■

Classic Touring, Modern Performance

V-Twin Tire Choices

The summer rallies are over for the year, which means we’re entering the fall season of cooler weather and great riding opportunities. Getting ready for the ride means having the right tires for the trip, whether it’s a long-distance tour or a date with a twisty road.

Metzeler has a tire for both of those options. The Metzeler ME888 is a durable, reliable touring tire, while the Cruisetec tire is a performanceminded option designed for pushing a V-Twin to its limits.

Touring tires need to be able to go the distance, and they need to provide confidence and stability in the varied weather a rider will encounter on a long-haul trip. That means the Metzeler ME888 tire has to provide both longevity and wet-weather performance.

To achieve both of those things, Metzeler carefully engineered the design and compounds of the ME888. The tread pattern preserves wear uniformity to increase longevity, but at the same time, it is designed for a high level of water evacuation.

The smoother the ride, the less a rider is going to feel those miles as they add up. The ME888 is designed for stability and smooth handling at both low and high speeds. Riders can load up and hit the road knowing their tires will be comfortable, durable and capable.

Not only is the ME888 tire a great choice for a lot of miles, but it’s also great for a lot of models. Metzeler offers this popular touring tire in an impressively long list of sizes –there are currently more than 90 – so it can fit just about any V-Twin. With options like a 23-inch-diameter front tire and a 300mm rear, the ME888 tire is a great choice for custom bikes, too. For vintage bikes, or anyone who wants to give their modern bike a classic look, the ME888 is available in a white wall version.

While the ME888 tire leans toward the “classic touring” category, the Metzeler Cruisetec is a hyper-modern tire

that combines the strength and styling of a V-Twin tire with the performance characteristics of a sport tire.

In fact, the profile of the Cruisetec tire is inspired by Metzeler’s sport-touring profiles, with a steeper profile that boosts handling and stability. No need for V-Twin riders to worry, though: the styling is still robust enough to support the heavier bikes it was designed for, and it has all the styling cues one would expect in a V-Twin tire.

The tread pattern is designed for excellent grip and water evacuation, and the dual-compound rear tire supports both longevity and balance. These characteristics, along with the profile design, allow the Cruisetec to perform well both in a straight line and through the corners. ■

The Bronze Age Matching Parts for a New OE Wheel

With the release of the Harley-Davidson ST line of Baggers and Softails came a stock wheel that many customers are deciding to leave on their bikes. Unlike those OE wheels of past Harley models, these wheels are a great match for the bikes and are some of the best-looking stock wheels to come from The Motor Company. The only issue is that little else on the ST model bikes matches that beautiful bronze finish on the wheels.

That is where LA Choppers steps in. The company saw a void in the market, so it decided it needed to find a powder coat that perfectly matches the ST bronze color. After many attempts, the design experts at LA Choppers finally cooked up a proprietary finish that looks right at home with the wheels on the Softail, Lowrider S, Lowrider ST, Road Glide ST, and Street Glide ST.

bronzed bits were a perfect complement to the stock wheels – mission accomplished, almost.

Once the crew at LA Choppers started to install these color-matched parts on the test bikes, they soon realized that they should also coat the company’s Performance Risers in bronze. So, now your customers can have the complete bronze package for their S or ST model Softail and Bagger. This includes the entire line of Performance Riser gauges! These gauges are available for a number of Harley-Davidson fitments, including the Dyna, Road Glide, Softail and Sportster.

While the whole styling exercise started off as a great way to finish-match a number of popular LA Choppers parts and accessories to the stock Harley wheels for the ST models, the end result is a range that will look great on any Harley-Davidson.

Next up, the question was: What products in the LA Choppers lineup include the new bronze finish? The easy answer was to take the popular new County Line range and offer every single product in that slick bronze hue. For those Bagger models, this means floorboards and brake pedals, while the other models in the range get footpegs, derby covers, shift linkage and shift levers. The newly

Lube Kits and Cleaner for Harley-Davidsons

Harley-Davidsons are a special breed, with unique character, style and maintenance requirements. Maxima knows your customers care about their bikes, so it’s developed products specifically for Harleys, including V-Twin Oil Change Kits, V-Twin oils and a Matte Finish Cleaner that’s ideal for hard-to-clean surfaces like Harley’s Denim paint.

The oil change is the foundation of the maintenance schedule, and Maxima offers oils specifically developed for V-Twins as well as complete V-Twin Oil Change Kits that make regular maintenance as simple as possible. Oil Change Kits come in two forms – the Quick Change and the Full Change – with applications dating back to the early ’80s.

With the Quick Change kit, riders get the appropriate amount of Maxima’s V-Twin Full Syn 20W-50 or V-Twin Mineral 20W-50 (depending on OEM the model and requirements), plus a fresh drain-plug O-ring and a ProFilter spin-on filter in either black or chrome. These filters feature additional pleating to capture contaminants, a silicone check valve for rapid fluid flow at startup, and a nut welded to the end for easy removal. The filters even have a pre-lubed gasket for additional convenience.

The Full Change kit takes things a step further by including not only the transmission oil and filter, but also primary oil to put fresh fluid in both sumps. Whichever kit your customers choose, the included Maxima oils exceed OEM specifications and are specially engineered for V-twin engines. That means Maxima’s V-Twin oils are extremely shear-stable and cling to metal surfaces for superior protection under the extreme heat and loads that air-cooled engines experience. These oils are also highly oxidatively

stable to attain the extended change intervals required for many Harley engines.

Of course, Maxima’s ProFilter, V-Twin Full Syn 20W-50, and other lubes are available on their own as needed, but getting them packaged together — with the exact parts and quantities needed for a given Harley model — is undeniably convenient.

As much as Maxima cares about lubricants, it specializes in cleaning chemicals, too. Maxima’s Matte Finish Cleaner is ideal for those tricky matte finishes such as Harley’s Denim paint and the matte surfaces found on many helmets. These light-absorbing finishes look great, but smudge easily and are hard to clean with conventional formulas. That’s why Maxima developed a special cleaner with a blend of surfactants and detergents that lift away grime without sticking to the surface, leaving the finish looking clean and even.

Whether it’s maintaining the engine with high-quality oils or keeping matte paint looking good, Maxima has the products your customers need. ■

Slammed Softail

New, Shorter Shock for the M8

can change the look and feel of your customers’ rides. Burly Brand already had loads of shock options for your clients, and the lineup now includes a Slammer Shock for Harley-Davidson Milwaukee Eight Softails.

Burly’s legendary Slammer Shock is an excellent option for M8 Softail riders who want a lowered look. This 12.2-inch assembly drops the rear of the bike by an inch, helping shorter riders feel more secure at stops and giving the Softail a slammed, road-hugging stance.

Slammer Shocks are engineered to give a smooth, controlled ride over all road surfaces and utilize an Internal Floating Piston (IFP) with deflective-disc valving to manage damping. With high-pressure nitrogen keeping the shock oil in check, the Slammer confidently handles bumps, even at high speeds.

The all-black shock looks sharp, and installs easily with the stock hardware. Preload adjustment is via a threaded collar, and Burly does your customers the favor of including a suitable spanner. This M8 Softail application joins Burly’s existing lineup of Slammer Shocks for Sportsters, Dynas and Touring models.

If your customers are worried about shorter shocks yielding a harsh ride, Burly Brand has the solution. The Slammer Plus Shocks provide the same lower seat height and slammed look that riders love, but with added suspension stroke to help absorb bigger bumps. The Slammer Plus Shocks use a clever flat-wire secondary spring that allows the 11.5-inch damper body to move through more travel, providing almost two inches of stroke in a 10.5-inch shock.

At the other end of the spectrum, there’s the Stiletto Shocks, meant to jack up a bike’s back end for increased cornering clearance and quicker handling. A set of Stilettos will raise a bike by 1 inch to 4 inches, depending on the model, and help transform your customers’ Sportster or Dyna into a corner-carving machine.

The heart of the Stiletto Shocks is a damper that’s designed to deliver the control required during aggressive riding. The carefully calibrated spring combination is engineered to tackle subtle road imperfections as well as big hits, ensuring a smooth, supportive and comfortable ride. The result is a plush and responsive bike that’s better equipped to navigate diverse road conditions with control and stability. ■

Loud and On the Level A Bagger

Exhaust with Wide Appeal

Exhaust manufacturers have a lot of things to consider when it comes to designing a new system for a V-Twin: How good it looks, how well it performs and, of course, how great it sounds. However, there’s something else that has to be taken into consideration, too, and that’s compliance. It’s a lot easier to build a performance exhaust with a throaty roar when you don’t have to worry about the legal requirements.

The team at Bassani Xhaust, though, doesn’t see any reason to take the easy route. The brand’s years of expertise have allowed them to introduce a new Road Rage 2-into1 system for Harley-Davidson Milwaukee-Eight Baggers that is 49-state compliant, while still providing that blend of looks, performance and sound that customers expect from a Bassani exhaust.

Thanks to a catalytic converter in the baffles, this new option from Bassani Xhaust gives more M8 Bagger riders than ever the chance to twist the throttle for the brand’s distinctive rumble, all while staying legal.

The equal-length stepped headpipes start at 1¾ inches and step up to 17/8 inches in the collector to increase performance. The headers merge into a reverse-cone 4-inch straight can muffler, which has a polished billet end cap that can be removed to tune the sound. The muffler’s 24inch length is perfectly designed to enhance the lines of the bike while fitting in neatly beneath the saddlebags.

In all, this new 2-into-1 exhaust system looks sleek and modern, and it gives an M8 Bagger a boost in both aesthetics and power. Riders can choose from a black or chrome finish to suit their style.

Taking a closer look at the exhaust shows the high level of quality craftsmanship that goes into creating each one. Every Bassani Chrome or Black exhaust is MIG welded by hand (stainless components are TIG welded) for a beautiful look, and the fit and finish are precision engineered to ensure the exhaust looks perfectly at home on the bike. Bassani Xhaust proudly makes all their exhausts in the USA, using quality steel sourced from American mills. By being so meticulous about the materials used, Bassani exhausts have improved heat cycles as well as increased heat protection.

Each of the new 2-into-1 exhaust systems comes with heat shields, a removable spiral-core baffle and all the mounting hardware required for installation. ■

High-Quality Hop-Up 50 Years of Performance Parts

The technology the team at Andrews uses today didn’t exist when the company got its start in 1972. Originally, Andrews was making motorcycle transmission gears and shafts. As time went on, the company began to specialize in performance camshafts and other valve gear parts, too.

As bike builders, racers and riders began to discover just how much performance an engine built with Andrews Products could deliver, demand for the products shot up. Andrews grew in both popularity and size.

Making performance upgrades to a V-Twin motor can mean installing a part as small as a valve spring upper collar or as big as a new camshaft. Andrews Products offers both of those components, plus everything in between. Founded by the late John Andrews in 1972, the company’s name has been a well-known and well-respected one among performance-minded V-Twin builders for a long time.

One of those builders is Mark Shadley of Shadley Bros. Motorcycles. The 1967 Harley-Davidson FL that he built is the 2022-2023 OldBook cover bike. You can’t see it in the photo, of course, but the bike includes Andrews Products transmission gears.

Andrews Products produces camshafts, transmission gears and more for both street and racing applications. The latest to join the lineup of products are camshafts for 2017-2023 Harley-Davidson M8 motors.

Everything is created with state-of-the-art engineering design and manufacturing technology. Even the inspection equipment Andrews utilizes are high-tech pieces that ensure everything shipping out of the company’s headquarters in Mt. Prospect, Illinois, is of the highest quality. This attention to detail begins long before the manufacturing gets underway. Andrews also sources high-quality raw materials, because it’s a lot easier to achieve top quality when you start with it.

By the time Andrews Products reached its 30th anniversary in 2002, it was time for a big upgrade to the company’s facilities. A new, custombuilt headquarters gave Andrews the size and comfort necessary to keep building on the success of the first three decades.

Today, Andrews Products is housed in a 45,000 square-foot facility equipped with computer-controlled production and inspection equipment, including the latest in CNC

The Andrews Big Twins Class is now a part of this popular new series that proves Baggers aren’t just built to look good. Of course, anyone using Andrews Products parts has known that all along.

After half a century in business, Andrews Products doesn’t show any signs of slowing down. The company continues to pride itself on producing high-quality, high-performance camshafts, transmission gears and other engine components, and new fitments are regularly introduced to make sure the latest motorcycles can be upgraded with Andrews Products.

The newest *camshafts available from Andrews are designed for 2017-2023 M8 engines. These engines come stock with high-efficiency four-valve heads, which means they are primed and ready for performance upgrades. Adding one of the new Andrews M8 camshafts takes things to the next level.

There are two new M8 *cams available, including the 465B and the 485. The 465B is an aggressive option for heavyweight bikes with engine sizes of 107 cubic inches to 124 cubic inches. The benefits of this camshaft can especially be felt in the low-to-mid RPM range.

The 485 is the highest lift cam that can be used in conjunction with the stock valve springs. Suitable for M8 engines of up to 131 cubic inches in size, this *cam offers big gains.

In addition to these new products, Andrews has a wide range of *cams to suit a variety of V-Twin engine styles, setups and performance preferences. This great selection allows engine builders to dial in the exact performance setup they’re looking for, whether it’s for the track or the street.

Andrews Products offers a lot more than *camshafts. There are also pushrods, countershafts, gear sets, ignition coils, valve springs and other engine components that can all take a V-Twin engine to the next level. Even older bikes can benefit from the range of Andrews Products, since there are plenty of applications to be found in the OldBook. ■

Full Go Flow Open the Tap for Maximum Fuel

1982-1994 FXR, and other bikes with a 22mm petcock bung.

Like all Pingel petcocks, this new offering has a smoothoperating lever that swings through On, Off and Reserve. A mesh filter helps defend the carburetors from debris and the large outlet is ready to accept a 5/16-inch fuel hose for massive flow. This new Power-Flo valve is offered in a dual-outlet arrangement for feeding two carbs from one petcock, or as a single-outlet setup.

Fuel, spark, and compression. Those are the three fundamental ingredients of a running engine, and Pingel has been supplying the fuel since 1967.

Pingel petcocks and fuel-system components are engineered for maximize fuel flow on everything from stock bikes to supercharged nitromethane-burning drag racers.

Pingel’s petcocks are available in a variety of styles, orientations and finishes, and all feature precision-machined brass and/or aluminum components and fully rebuildable valve assemblies. The application list is massive and dates back to before Pingel’s founding, so if your client’s bike uses a petcock, Pingel likely has an upgrade available.

The latest addition to the already expansive parts list is a 22mm Power-Flo fuel valve that’s suitable for older Harley-Davidsons like the 1975-1984 FL, 1986-1994 FLST,

Fuel valves may be the product that’s made Pingel famous, but the family owned, Wisconsinbased company also offers fuel-system accessories like weld-on bungs and EFI-to-carburetor conversion adapters, plus inline fuel valves and cleanable inline filters.

When bikes aren’t burning gas and need to be transported via trailer, Pingel has a lineup of sturdy wheel chocks. The removable wheel chocks are a good match for people who use their trailers for more than just hauling bikes. These chrome-plated, heavy-duty chocks secure with T-bolt hold-downs for toolless installation and removal. Pingel also has a truck-bed specific wheel chock designed to work in the corrugated beds found in most of today’s pickups.

For the ultimate in bike stability, Pingel’s Cycle Jaws wheel chock is the way to go. Constructed from thick-walled steel for durability, this clamping chock provides maximum tire contact. An adjustable stop accommodates different diameter wheels while a screw-drive applies even, firm clamping force to the bike’s tire. With no bulky hardware to roll over, the Cycle Jaws offers effortless roll in/roll out use and is ideal for the garage, race paddock, truck, or trailer.

All of these products are crafted in the USA under the guidance of Wayne and Donna Pingel, who founded Pingel Enterprises together back in 1967. Their motorcycle business started small in a two-car garage, but has grown to fill a 50,000 square-foot facility. It’s a successful and well-respected company founded on innovation, quality, and performance. ■

Locked and Loaded Old-School Style,

Modern Comfort

Those who have been around the two-wheeled world for some time may recall ODI Grips from the late 1970s and early 1980s and the company’s legendary Mushroom Grips. These popular grips made their way from cycling into motocross and ATVs.

Into the ’90s the brand was a hit in many markets and appeared at many events with installations and sales. At the time, company owner Dave Grimes grew tired of installing grips using alcohol, hair spray, grip glue and/or safety-wire. It was messy and labor intensive. There had to be a better way.

Enter the ODI Lock-On™ Grip system. They were made by molding the first pass of the grip with a tube that integrates with a locking collar. In the second pass, the grip pattern was molded. Now the grip could be installed in minutes and secured directly to the handlebar. They would not twist or slide over time, and held tight after getting wet from the elements or in a bike wash. That system took off and became very popular in a variety of action sports markets.

Today, ODI is still manufacturing around the clock at its facility in Riverside, California, and that Lock-On system was extended into the V-Twin market for Harley Davidson and Indian Motorcycles.

Many of your customers are likely familiar with that classic Vans shoes waffle pattern sole. Now they can bring that slick style, and a whole lot of comfort,

Given its roots in the BMX and motocross worlds, ODI brought some of that heritage into the V-Twin market with full-waffle motocross grips for Harley and Indian riders. ODI also teamed up with freestyle legend Carey Hart to launch V-Twin Lock-On Full-Waffle grips in 2020. The grips provide amazing traction and comfort and provide a good amount of vibration dampening. They also look fantastic.

The V-Twin Lock-On System quickly installs and delivers a grip that is completely secure on the handlebars. Instead of using set screws, the Lock-On Collar clamps – essentially the grip’s flange – directly to the handlebars via T15 Torx bolts. The system has the same molding process for both clutch and throttle-side. However, the throttle side tooling can be changed out to incorporate the different types of throttle tubes; Harley cable, Harley throttle-bywire, and even Indian Touring throttle-by-wire models.

For 2023, ODI launched the new Vans® V-Twin Lock-On. The iconic Old School Classic Vans waffle patterns were optimized for comfort and control. On the top, the reinforced waffle pattern was used to create a palm pad for extra comfort and vibration dampening. The more open classic waffle pattern was used on the bottom to provide improved finger traction. Other aspects of the Vans classics shoes were integrated into the design for a truly authentic grip design that is officially licensed from the brand. ■

A Superior Seal Modern Sealing Technology for V-Twins

Cometic’s head gaskets for Harley-Davidson M8 motors are the latest in high performance technology for high-output M8 engines. The stopper layer ensures a robust seal around the combustion chamber.

Nobody likes leaks. Whether it’s as common as a bottom-end drip or as serious as a blown head gasket, a leak anywhere on your customers’ bikes is bad news. Help them keep things sealed by using quality Cometic parts, which are available for all popular Harley-Davidson models and offered for everything from the rocker boxes on down to the drain plugs.

Since 1989, Cometic has pursued better sealing technologies for engines. “You still see a lot of old tech from the OEs,” says Cometic Marketing Manager Jason Moses. “Harley still uses graphite head gaskets, which are really on the edge of being able to effectively seal the combustion chamber in modern big-inch, high-compression engines.” Elsewhere, there are OE single-lipped seals on shafts and old-fashioned pressed-fiber or coated gaskets between cases and covers.

Meanwhile, Cometic offers more modern and effective sealing technologies for every mating surface on a motor. Multi-Layer Steel (MLS) head gaskets are an excellent approach to sealing the combustion chamber, and are ideal for high-performance builds. “MLS gaskets are engineered to act like a spring, so they’ll lift with the head,” Moses says. Cometic’s head gaskets are available in standard and big-bore sizes in a variety of thicknesses to aid tuning.

For bottom-end assemblies like primary covers and derby covers, Cometic implements its excellent Aluminum Foamet Material (AFM). AFM gaskets improve on old-school pressed-fiber gaskets by increasing strength and resilience.

“AFM is really nice stuff,” Moses says. “It has a malleable aluminum core so it’s not going to push out or suck in, and it doesn’t need sealers. The closed-foam coating fills gaps and can accommodate component flex, so it’s awesome for older stuff that didn’t have great finishes to begin with and has been through years of hammering and screwdriver abuse.”

The M8 primary and seal rebuild kit from Cometic features different products to better seal an engine. The AFM material is used for the primary and derby cover gaskets, double lipped clutch seal, and aluminum gasket with molded rubber to seal the inner primary to the engine case.

Another plus with AFM gaskets is that they’re easy to remove later. “They just peel off,” he says. “There’s no scraping, so it’s really a big timesaver for mechanics.”

For O-rings and many other rubberized parts, Cometic relies on a high-tech material called Viton. “It’s the Cadillac of elastomers,” Moses says. Designed to meet the demands of harsh sealing environments, Viton is oil and gas resistant and can handle temperatures up to 450 degrees Fahrenheit.

More upgrades are available with Cometic’s shaft seals, which feature a dual-lip design for trouble-free operation. Cometic’s shift-shaft seal has developed a cult following thanks to how reliably it solves the dreaded shifter-seal mess.

From seals to O-rings to gaskets, Cometic makes it all, and Drag Specialties stocks it. You can order individual parts, assembly kits, or complete engine-rebuild sets with everything you need for an overhaul. Drag also has gasket boards that put parts within easy reach of your mechanics, and with the part numbers printed right on the board, recording is convenient. ■

Intricate Art A Line

of Exquisite Accessories

Machined parts with a polished or anodized finish are nice, but they’re also status quo. For those who want something different, Figurati Designs offers high quality and detail with its lineup of jewelry-grade accessories. These parts bring detailed craftsmanship to your customers’ bikes because they’re made by trained jewelers in dedicated jewelry factories. Figurati’s talented craftsmen have several new products on offer.

A recent addition to the FatBook are new designs for Figurati’s existing lineup of docking covers. Several American-flag motifs including red/white/blue, contrast cut, and blue-, red-, and green-line flag designs are now available so your customers can share their patriotism and support for first responders.

They’re made from jewelry grade 316F stainless steel that won’t tarnish and are offered in a polished or black PVD (physical vapor deposition) finish carried over from the jewelry trade. These docking covers are sold in pairs and use powerful Neodymium magnets so they’re convenient to install.

The designs presented on Figurati’s docking covers are familiar and popular, but the level of detail presented here is extraordinary. The motifs are laser engraved using the same process you’d get on a wedding band, and the colors are achieved with enamel paint, applied by hand under magnification. It’s an amazing level of detail.

This same intricate and crisp detailing is also now available on heel-toe shifter-shaft covers, seat-mounting knobs and timing covers. The new shift-shaft covers beautifully conceal the exposed shaft that remains when riders remove the heelshift lever. The part features the same premium construction and finishes as Figurati’s other offerings and comes with thread lock and a hex wrench for easy installation.

Your customers can also add Figurati seat-mounting knobs to their bikes and put Figurati’s fine art front and center with the new timing cover. These new docking cover designs, seat-mounting knobs, heel-toe shiftershaft covers, and timing covers join the existing lineup of swingarm-pivot covers, front-axle covers and other parts. All Figurati’s beautiful motifs are available across the product range, so your customers can create a matching set or mix it up.

Figurati has also added the designs to its range of heel-toe shifter-shaft covers.

Figurati Designs owner Kerry Cromer spent over a decade as a jewelry wholesaler, traveling across America and around the world connecting jewelry makers and manufacturers with shops and buyers. When he combined the knowledge he gained in the jewelry business with his passion for customizing his Harley-Davidsons, a new and innovative company was born. ■

Optimal Valve Control

Cams and Lifters for Power and Reliability

Engines are an ecosystem, which means changing one part can have a ripple effect throughout the motor. Swapping cams in a Harley-Davidson Milwaukee-Eight may bring power, but it can introduce other problems, too. Thankfully, Feuling has the valvetrain components your customers need to build powerful, reliable bikes.

Clearance issues are common when installing an aftermarket cam in an M8 motor, so Feuling’s Race Series Lifters have a relief machined into the lower body to clear the flange on the front camshaft and provide extra clearance. More importantly, these lifters offer a slower bleed down rate and the ability to handle heavier valve springs, which is especially important in the M8 engines since each rocker is responsible for activating two valves.

If a customer has built a monster motor with crazy cams and stiff valve springs, Feuling’s Race Series Solid Lifters offer the precision needed for reliable valve control. With no internal moving parts, solid lifters won’t collapse or pump up when faced with radical valve-spring pressure,

Feuling has a full range of valvetrain components – like these Race Series Lifters – designed for those customers building powerful, reliable bikes.

large-lift cams and high rpm. For the best results, match these lifters to a high-volume oil pump and heavy-duty adjustable pushrods. ■

After as little as an hour in the sun, UV rays will have evaporated that detailer off, setting the look back to square one and exposing the surface to the elements.

Cycle Care’s C6 Detailer changes all that. More than a silicone-based detailer, C6 is infused with carbon, a hard and strong pure element. C6 molecularly bonds to the surface it’s applied to, its organometallic, silicon-dioxide compound creating a permanent molecular bond to a vehicle’s surface to achieve maximum hardness, durability and a shine that lasts.

C6 won’t wash away or break down, its nano-carbon elements creating a singular-element coating that fills in all the imperfections of a factory clear coat, adding extreme protection against UV rays, acid rain, bird droppings, road salt, environmental pollutants, alkalies, and solvents.

This advanced formulation wasn’t created overnight. Cycle Care invested years of chemical research to create C6 Detailer’s protective coating, developing and manufacturing it in the USA. A C6 carbon-infused finish doesn’t degrade and wash away, so the easily applied, high-gloss shine and durable, hydrophobic all-around protection is there for the long haul. ■

Extra Fuel When it’s Needed Most Gas on the Go

Every rider has been there. Out on some long, lonely stretch of road and not a turnoff or gas station in sight. The fuel gauge is bouncing around “Empty” and the bike’s already running in Reserve. It’s crunch time, feathering the throttle in hopes of coaxing every last mile out of the fumes left in the tank.

A full REDA Gas Can in the saddlebag, maybe even two with one in each bag, will take away all that worry. Designed specifically for Harley-Davidson saddlebags, they’re shaped to fit perfectly in that back, hard-to-reach spot inside and each REDA Gas Can holds a gallon of gas. Plenty enough to put a customer’s mind at ease knowing they’re not going to end up on the side of the road with a thumb in the air.

REDA Gas Cans are cheap insurance against getting stranded out on the highway. They’re tough and EPA and CARB certified. The cans are made from high-quality materials, they’re built to last and they’re 100 percent vapor-proof and spill-proof, eliminating any concern about fumes or spilled gas in the saddlebag,

Riders might not need to pack along a REDA Gas Can every time they take a Harley out for a spin. However, when it’s a long-distance run in the offing having that extra gallon or two of gas along for the ride can significantly boost the confidence level of getting there without a hitch. ■

Sized for Service

Oils and Lubricants in Bulk

How important are profit and quality products for your shop? Service departments go through a lot of oil and lubricants, which means high-volume packaging is the most efficient way to go. By taking advantage of Bel-Ray’s 6-gallon containers, shops can save space, reduce waste and maximize profit, all while offering a premium brand.

Bel-Ray utilizes a Bag-in-Box design for these bulk-size containers. When cost averaging, these larger containers offer your shop significant incremental profit for your business.

Designed with service departments in mind, these larger containers cut down on waste since trash cans won’t be filling up with empty 1-liter bottles. Additionally, the bladder design maximizes every last drop, further reducing waste.

The spigot on the front of the package allows you to quickly and easily pour just the right quantity, with no mess. Inside each bag is one of the Bel-Ray products dealers know and trust, and customers will know they are getting quality products when they bring their bike in for service.

The list of products available in the 6-gallon size just got bigger with the addition of Bel-Ray’s mineral-based 10W-40 and 20W-50 engine oils. In addition to those, dealers can order shop-sized premium V-Twin Synthetic 10W-50, V-Twin Semi Synthetic 20W-50, Big Twin Transmission Oil and Primary Chaincase Lubricant. A rack program is also offered with a qualifying order. ■

Bluetooth Upgrade for Harley-Davidsons

Across dozens of generations of Harley-Davidson models, the bond between riders and their machines has remained unwavering. Whether their preference is vintage or modern, riders often hesitate to swap their current ride for something else. Yet, there are moments when these rides could benefit from a modern touch to get them up to speed with contemporary comforts.

JENSEN’s new HD1BT Bluetooth stereo for HarleyDavidson models is a testament to its stellar audio experience. Equipped with all the expected functionality of a modern stereo, this unit features a plug-and-play design prioritizing customer convenience during installation and use. Riders can choose from an array of popular audio sources, including SiriusXM satellite radio, FM, AM, USB, and AUX, but the standout feature is undoubtedly the Bluetooth capability. Moreover, these features seamlessly integrate with factory handlebar controls.

This new-age stereo boasts impressive construction; rigorously tested and built to withstand all the elements a

rider might encounter out on the road, including UV rays, water, sand, dirt, debris, and more. JENSEN takes pride in proving its units are robust enough to blast remarkable soundtracks on whatever adventure lies ahead.

The HD1BT serves as a direct factory replacement for many Harley model radios produced between 2007 to 2013. ■
