Since we started with the publication of our first issue, we were very doubtful because we didn’t know the diffusion it could have. It could be a unique and innovative project with great importance or, conversely, a modest newsmagazine for a certain group of friends. After 30 long days of concerns, which have come to an end, it’s time to face what has happened. I want to thank personally all the support to this “world project”, where wonderful people from many countries has helped with great excitement and expectations in order that drift trike reaches every corner of the globe. The truth is that, while I’m writing these lines, an incredible feeling is emerging as tears of joy, because we can say that during this month 1.875.984 wonderful people have visited the publication of our first issue that has been seen in 30 countries. It’s an overwhelming success. It’s time to keep on working hard to be able to continue in this line as it will be a challenge over the next issues. We have set out next targets. Little by little, we will let you know about them and we will share them with you. Time and time again, we repeat the same: we need teams, event organizers or anybody who has special news to contact us in order to know about them and not to miss any important news.

If we think about the huge country of Brazil, maybe the first that comes to mind are 4 or 5 typical things: its very long beaches, Christ the Redeemer, its carnival, its dream women and the best place for European football teams to sign their futures aces. But little by little, a sporting discipline, at first minority, is making its way through the Brazilian country with fun, adrenaline and PVC wheels. Rafael Demmer bears much of the blame for it and in the lines below you will know why. Rafael, when and how did you know the world of drift trike? I have practiced drift trike since August 2012, when a friend and I built a trike with which we started descending a street close to home. Next, I participated in the first drift trike championship in Brazil where I ranked second. I have never stopped since then!

How long did it take you from the moment you saw your first trike until the moment you drove your own? Well, I watched a video about drift trike and the next day we were already building it.

When did you noticed the power that this sport has in your country? In my first event, I realized that this is a sport which is attracting many people. In 2013, I continued attending events in different states. The people I met in that moment have been decisive for the growth of this sport in my country. So, at the end of 2013 I was sure that I wanted to participate in drift trike event organizations.

In this second edition of the Holy Grail, our GPS signal has taken us to the city known as “The Jewel of the Pacific”. We are talking about the beautiful city of Valparaiso (Chile). A layout which runs through a breathtaking coastal road for its natural beauty. A Pacific Ocean view balcony where the waves break strongly against the rocks of its impressive cliffs. As an imperturbable witness, the red and white Punta Ángeles lighthouse sees how the riders of TRIKE VIÑA descend at full speed. They have chosen this place to burn PVC and cause a rush of adrenaline. START ZONE:

At the beginning of the tour is where the maximum speeds are reached. And at these speeds, we find a great curve on the left.

ZONE 1: Then, it is necessary to reduce a little speed to keep the trike in the pertinent lane, as we have to turn right with poor visibility. ZONE 2: Once this last dangerous curve is overcome, there are a number of smaller curves where speed rises up to 50-55 Km/h again.

12

Reportaje Argentina

The members of this team analyze the layout curve by curve: FIRST DATA: The asphalt shows an exceptional condition, as well as the traffic signs and the lighting. The total distance of the descent is about 2 km, which can be completed in 2 minutes and 30 seconds. The maximum speed reached in this descent is about 60 Km/h where ski lifts are advisable because the ascent on foot takes more than 15 minutes, stopping to rest just once. This zone is open to traffic but, fortunately, the presence of motorized vehicles is low what makes this place quite safe to practice drift trike.

ZONE 3: In this zone, a fun element of the tour appears. It is a parking lot to get in and out skidding. ZONE 4: Just before coming to the lighthouse zone, we face a curve on the left where we don’t have any problem to pass to the oncoming lane, as there is good visibility and it can be clearly seen if other vehicles come climbing. FINISH: Once the lighthouse is reached, we face a U-shaped curve to finish definitively our tour. Now we have to wait for the lift car and enjoy the decent again. Today we want to introduce Fabio Buba Biofa. You will probably wonder why and the reason is that this Italian rider is the one that appears competing with his trike in our first cover. When we saw the photo, we quickly realized that it reflected perfectly what we were searching for a great magazine cover. Our protagonist lives in Camaiore, an Italian town in the province of Lucca, a Tuscany region where he has practiced this sport for some years. This pilot has achieved some important worldwide titles and is part of “Buba Team” whose members are Saga, Marchino, Daniel, Bianchi, Nicoló, Filì, Marmotta, Tranquillo, Fede, Ale and Manu. Over these years, they have added not only experience but also some podiums in some of the renowned events in Italy like Sliderking with a third place, the Italian Championship where Marchino and Buba ranked second and third, respectively, and a first place in the Italian Trophy by our protagonist. A team where the pool of young riders is guaranteed to take the baton in a few years’ time to keep on fighting at the top of competitions for the first places in the ranking. We are talking about Elia, Rosi, Davide, Ale and Leo, the members of “Buba Team Junior”. These young pilots already speed up strongly and we will surely have the honor of dedicating some lines to them very soon. They can share with their parents and friends a wonderful hobby and sport.

Let’s know our friend Fabio a little at a personal level: What goals have you set in this sport? One of the goals that I would like to reach is to win the Italian Championship 2015 as I am the second and it is very tough until the final race. In this way, I would have the opportunity to participate in more important events against other nations. It would be very special to me. What sort of form are you in to face big challenges? I am in a good moment right now. Moreover, the 2016 team will be comprised of the best pilots with whom to share great races and we hope that big moments at the top of the podium. What is your wife’s opinion on that you and your son practice together an extreme sport like drift trike? My wife is very happy that our four-year-old baby practices this fun extreme sport. She also likes that he can share with his father moments that will always be present, making a family team hahaha, #buba and #bubino. What do you feel when you see your son run? Would you teach other kids? I feel very proud of having him by my side and sharing it. It is very nice to see our little children descend with their trikes and for two years we have worked as instructors for our young four-year-old riders.

Last July, in the town of Lugano located to the southeast of Switzerland in the Italian-speaking canton Ticino, the company Quantya made the first Drift Trike Quantya Park in Europe, where they were doing their first trials of an ongoing project that they have. The company has been active in the fabrication of motorbikes, scooters, snow bikes and quad bikes for almost a decade. They decided to carry out this electrically powered trike and for its debut, they have chosen the Longlake Festival. Among its main features, its engine comes from Taiwan, its power output is 3 Kw, about 4 horsepower and it has a very strong and resistant structure with kart seat and wheels and its corresponding PVC coatings. They were ready to roll. These 8 vehicles, which were displayed in this town where they will start the tour through Switzerland in the corporate events of the brand, firstly delighted the attendees in the Hangar 7 Mac of the Lugano Exhibition Center. In this temporary circuit, it was possible to enjoy speed without risking your life or losing your driving license. In these facilities improvised with all the ingredients and a road full of turns, curves and short straight lines, the public felt a lot of adrenaline by challenging their friends in races or the stopwatch until the last hundredth of a second. The record of the track remained at home because one of the members of Quantya made a high-speed lap in 44 seconds, showing a great deal of skill and control of the vehicle and on asphalt. Fun or stopwatch? It is a difficult decision because drift trike is the art of skidding sideways and it is fun for fans of motor but when you want to defeat the watch you must hold the handlebars firmly and prove your worth.

Girls are gaining ground in this sport and in competitions by providing with beauty, friendliness and, of course, showing how professional they are. In this case, we are in San Juan de Pasto, the capital of Nariño department in the south of Colombia. Here, we are meeting Paola, a lover of the world of drift trike who has already been lucky enough to win a place on the podium on several occasions. Currently, she is trying out new experiences in other sports like longboard apart from starting in cruising and dh and, when she has free time, mountain biking to relax. Let’s see how this extreme girl surprises us: Paola, are you the only female member in your team? No, I’m not. We are two women. I was the first and the other one is Angela Chaves who accompanies us when she has time. I belong to the pioneering team in my region: TEAM GALERAS DRIFT TRIKE. How long have you practiced drift trike? I have practiced and enjoyed this sport for two years. What are your “war colors” and does your trike have a name? My “war colors” are fuchsia, black and white. My trike has no name yet but it stands out for its fuchsia color as it is a lively color which transmits power and gives a female effect. Reportaje

What do you think about the group of Colombian girls that you form? Girls Drift Trike Colombia was Andrea López’s idea who practices good drift trike in Pereira, another city in my country. I agree with her when she says that practicing drift trike is a sign that being delicate and feminine can walk hand in hand with being bold and daring. I’m glad that there is a group that gathers all the Colombian women who practice this sport to share knowledge, experiences and everything related to drift trike. If there was any world competition for girls, would you participate? Of course I would! It’s one of my dreams to be fulfilled and I would participate if and when the event was good quality and I had sporting support. Would you inspire more girls to practice this sport? Of course. I’ll keep on doing it. My effort and enthusiasm for this sport have an aim, to motivate girls to practice this sport and show that the extreme is not just for boys. I’ll continue with the idea of inspiring girls to dare to break with tradition.

The following story comes from the city of San Miguel de Tucumán in northern Argentina where a modest team don’t stop surprising us. We have contacted some of the members of this team called PREDATOR DRIFT TRIKE, and there is no doubt that their stories are very interesting. Part of these guys were invited by the organizers of the first stage of the SliderKing World Championship that was held on 7th and 8th March in Atibaia in the Brazilian state of Sao Paulo. Without a sponsor, the only option left was to send some of their belongings to collect a little money and be able to afford the trip as Atibaia was at 2500 km. Up to here, it will remind many teams and riders when they participate in other events away from their countries. In the championship that recently has been held in Catamarca (Argentina), this team participated with four members and all of them achieve a place on the podium: Loquillo ranked first in the category of 90 kg, Kuky placed second in the Open, Palito was second in Children and second in the female category with Chofi. These are good data to have 34 Reportaje into account, but what caught our attention the most Argentina was the following…

The world of drift trike is bigger and bigger and, without a doubt, stories like this make it grow by leaps and bounds. José María Alderetes is a 15-year-old Argentinian boy who, since drift trike came to his city, hasn’t stopped listening to his friends talking about how well they spend their afternoons by descending with their trikes. José María is a special boy as he is blind and, as any kid with his age, was not satisfied just listening to them so he told his friends that he wanted to try it at least once.

“I want to feel it”. José María’s proposal quickly became popular and was overheard by Predator Drift Trike team who accepted as their own challenge. After talking and considering how to carry 36 Reportaje Argentina out the descent, the long-awaited day for José María came. His starting nerves disappeared as the speed increased, becoming laughter and an adrenaline rush for the fifteen year old. Shouts of excitement were mixed with the precise instructions from the experienced riders by his side who were escorting him like a V.I.P.

After more than 10 minutes descending, a large group of mates received him at the finish line with cheers, applauses and slaps on his back. The helmet he was wearing was not enough to hide his face of satisfaction and his open smile. José María was “the first blind triker”.

Do you want to descend again? Someone asked… but the answer was not necessary, his face reflected a definite Yes.

On 12th and 13th September, another challenging edition of the world SliderKing event was held in Italy. There, the shape of San Boldo Pass layout is already legendary. Its story tells us that it was built in just 100 days and that it is a mountain pass with 706 meters of altitude which connects both sides of the Alps in Belluno. It is the road to Tovena through San Boldo Canal with an average slope of 6.7% and with 18 horseshoe-shaped curves numbered in decreasing order and gathered in the last 7 km. 41 Reportaje Argentina

It is a very special event where speed and skidding styles are mixed. The total sum of the points scored in each of the 3 parts have decided the champion this year. In the speed event, Alessandro Zambo of Kamikaze Team (ITA) ranked first with one of the best time in the event. His speed and determination to face every curve of this layout helped him to achieve the well-deserved first place with a time of 8m 28s 70ml. He got the fastest lap of the Italian layout of San Boldo and in the other two parts he was the 42 Reportaje fastest on asphalt again leaving a gap of 14 seconds Argentina ahead of the next competitor in the ranking, Campion Davis (Kamikaze Team). In the second part of the event, in the category of skidding, Jacopo Possami was able to tame his trike among the sinuous Italian curves of San Boldo where he scored 130 points which were more than enough to win the first place in this category where curves and spins showed the beauty of this sport.

After two intense days, Alessandro Zombo of Kamikaze Team (ITA) ranked first, Jacoppo Possami achieved the second place and, to complete the podium, Campion Davis was third. Finally, the beautiful hostess of SliderKing, Chiara Lisot, awarded them their well-deserved trophies. It is another year where beauty and extreme sports meet up again. Without a doubt, many would like to participate in this event and only the most daring pilots try it out.

Who does not remember the legendary saga “The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift where the vehicles skidded on asphalt leaving their mark behind them at high speed? Drift trike has similarities with this sport, as far as maneuvers is concerned, in curves and courses, offering pilots the same feeling of controlling the uncontrollable. It is true that drift trike doesn’t offer high speeds, but there are also motorized trikes which delight the most expert drifting and rally pilots when they try them out.

After the great beginning of the last edition and creating a great impact in some parts around the world, we have found friends who do all they can to support us, both the magazine and the sport itself. These pilots are from the Spanish province of Alicante, where year after year they hold one of the most demanding competitions of this motoring category. Sometimes, we can see that something as simple as a branch can become something incredible. Probably, you have already watched this video on social networking sites, but… Do you know its author? How was it made? ... Below, we will reveal it.

How did you decide to start in Drift Trike’s world? What did you move to practice it? I saw a trike for the first time when a friend showed it to me. I instantly knew I’d love to have my own. He offered me to try it out by myself, but I didn’t want to because I wanted to build one by myself before starting driving it.

If you visit their official Facebook page, you will see that this is not the only way where these guys are creative. Some very interesting videos are waiting for you and if you want, it would be nice to see how you create your wonders in the future.

How did you come up with the idea of making your own trike? Well, as I’ve said my real first trike was the one I first sat on. In my opinion it’s another emotion to build it yourself instead of buying a trike from somebody. There are other emotions in it

If you want to tell us your story or something really interesting, we are waiting for news. Day by day, we investigate a lot to offer curious news that we find on the way, so we wait for your help in this project. We inspire you to share your lived experiences and the projects for the future that you have. Cheer up!

Why did you choose oak wood for its construction? First of all, as we told it in the video, I just love the structures and optic of real wood. And I’m a fan of building what’s in my mind instead of just thinking of it. So, I thought about what would be the best wood for it. Oak is one of the strongest trees and it resists water pretty good. Besides that the optic is beautiful, so I was sure it gives enough stability and the beauty I hoped for.

69 Reportaje Argentina

Could you tell us the whole set up? Did you have many difficulties? The biggest problem was the finding of a well-grown branch. In the video I take a branch from the ground of the wood, but that’s not the actual one. This was just for the video. At this point the real branch was already half prepared for the trike. The other problem was that I had never worked with wood before. I mean, I got skills for handiwork, especially metal skills. But with the wood I had no experience. At some point it was helpful our media guy, who made the film, had learned to be a carpenter. Reportaje So he gave some input when I needed it. 70me Argentina

How long did it take you to build it? Drying the wood took me about a year. In this time I planned a lot, how I would start, what colors I would use, etc. I invented a solution for the axis, so I can replace it if needed. The actual crafting took me 2 weeks. Our cameraman, Björn Windorf, visited me 2 Saturdays to film the work. I prepared everything, so we had the interesting parts to film. On the other days, I worked on the trike myself after getting home from work.

How would you inspire people to practice this sport? In my opinion, the easiest way to inspire people is to sit them on a trike and give them a push. You can never know how it feels if you don’t try it yourself. With our videos we try to inspire them to see more than just triking, but to see all the fun around it. You are together with friends or family having fun.

What emotions do you feel when you practice it? Well, this may sound conflicting, but I feel freedom and relaxation as much as I feel the adrenaline. That’s the awesome of it. It’s the combination of all these emotions at once. There can’t be a better way to get this rush (Andre is grinning).

The coordinates of Driftrike World Magazine’s GPS point directly to Jerez de la Frontera (Cadiz, Spain). We set out for this amazing city to meet Alba, a very beautiful and friendly girl from Jerez with green eyes, a smile which makes you speechless and a stunning body who has been so kind as to be our first “Drift Babe”. We went to the town of Chipiona to make the photographic report. She has known for a short time the world of drift trike. But, from the very first minute she became a real follower of this sport. Let’s ask her some questions to know her a little better:

As a girl from Cadiz, do you like speed? I love speed, not only in motorbikes but also in any vehicle which raises adrenaline and makes me feel alive. Drift trike is a perfect option to feel all these emotions. Tell me about another sport you like too. I’m very keen on karts. Here in Jerez we have one of the best circuits and I like competing with the boys and beating them. I am very competitive and always do my best to win. If you won the lottery, what paradise island would you get lost in? The Seychelles and Bora Bora. I have seen them in magazines and on TV, it is my dream! These colorful landscapes, these green waters… they make me dream awake. A little bird has told us that you work in a clothes shop. Who are worse, mothers or daughters? As a good shop assistant, I can’t choose between them, but it is true that moth-

ers have more influence. They like being right in their decisions. Could you tell us 3 songs that you really like? Rubia de Chapa C, Tsunami and Bangarang. What songs do you carry in your mp3 player when you go to the gym? I like motivating songs, in fact I look for them in order to get motivated. Although the real motivation is inside me. The soundtrack of “Rocky” can’t be missing. Who famous people would you go partying and drink until dawn with? With Olivier Martínez. This French actor has many of my perfect boy’s characteristics. How do you do with boys? Do you do the same than in drift trike? What do you prefer, driving on curvy roads or in a straight line? As a speed lover, I think that a good circuit has to have lines on the right and left in order to make the race exciting and a good straight line to reach the highest top speed to the finish line. How would your perfect boy be? I like dark haired boys who take care of their body, a little taller than me because I usually wear high heels! Ha ha. I’m a girl who love people who make me laugh a lot. I think it’s something essential in a couple, as well as that the boy is attentive and love being on75the beach. Reportaje Argentina

One more time, we are visiting the studio of one of those geniuses of customization. Miguel Ángel Ladrero Dotte is in charge of the studio Larré Airbrushing. He is a genius of spray painting who has more than 10 years of experience changing and customizing cars, motorbikes, helmets and some very unbelievable items. Where are you from? I have lived in La Florida district in Santiago, Chile since 1993. Right here I have my airbrushing studio where, moreover, I sell recycled products. Were you the typical boy who was always drawing in class or did you do it in your free time? I wasn’t that kind of boy at all. I have always liked drawing and painting as far back as I can remember. I did it in my free time and I could spend all my afternoons and even days until I had stilled my thirst of art. At school, my marks usually didn’t reflect my gifts for art. I liked to paint my way and not how they imposed me. Although a picture is worth more than a thousand words, if we gave you a trike, what type of work would you make on it? I would definitively make a skull design in grayscale including sepia colors and cold tones for it. 78 Reportaje What is the weirdest object that you have Argentina had to paint for a work? I once made a Donkey Kong design on a customized video game sheet for one of those typical pieces of the 1980s. I also made a flame design on a mountain climber’s pick but my clients are normally bikers.

Have you ever had any orders for any trike? I have painted none so far, but I would love it. Painting on new objects catches my attention a lot. Visiting your website, we have seen that you not only do airbrushing but also sell products related to it. What is the minimum equipment that a beginner needs to start in it? Yes, my idea of selling airbrushing products was born to guide those who start in this world. It is a sale of knowledge and experience. Basically, all airbrushing kits are useful for beginners. Some of them have more accessories and characteristics, but it is essential to have an airbrush, a hose, an air compressor and paints according to the corresponding area. What advice would you give to those who have just started? I would ask them to dare and not to think a lot. It is necessary to practice much. If their style is very commonplace, it would be a good idea to invent one new to express their own art. As you can see, in Santiago there are good hands to customize our coatings. If you are near and want your trike to look completely different, don’t miss the chance to visit our friend Miguel à ngel’s studio. We are sure that you will increase the long list of costumers satisfied with his magnificent works.
