It’s the best way to get to know more about the countries you come from. We will be pleased if you bring something from your country. We’ll also prepare some foods, sweets and drinks to introduce you to Slovenian cuisine!

WEEKEND TRIPS Bled & Bohinj The first stop on our trip will be Vintgar Gorge, where we will walk the 1600 m wooden walkway through the gorge, which was built in 1893 and has been continually rebuilt since. It crisscrosses the swirling Radovna River four times over rapids, waterfalls and pools before reaching 16 m high Šum Waterfall. Afterwards, we will stop at Bled, Slovenia’s most popular attraction with its emerald-green lake, picture-perfect church on an islet, a medieval castle clinging to a rocky cliff and some of the highest peaks of the Julian Alps and the Karavanke as backdrop. After lunch, you have an opportunity to reach the small Bled Island by rowboat. To rest after the journey, you will have two hours to relax by the shore or go for a swim. Afterwards, we will head to Ojstrica, the most picturesque viewpoint Bled has to offer. Once we finish the hike Lake Bled, we are heading for Bohinj, where we are spending the night. A (mandatory) party will follow a dinner.

We will begin our second day of the trip with waking up by Lake Bohinj. Many tourists say they’ve never seen a lake more beautiful than Bled … that is, until they’ve seen Lake Bohinj, just 26 km to the southwest. Bohinj lacks Bled’s glamour, but it is less crowded and more authentic in many ways. It’s an ideal summer holiday destination and people primarily come here to relax. Swimming in the crystal-clear water, cycling or hiking the pristine landscape - everything is on offer. While relaxing by the shore and taking in the beautiful surroundings will be a main part of our day, canyoning will be the highlight of it. We are walking and swimming through the canyon, jumping into the natural pools and gliding on the natural slides. In the majority of the canyons we will also rope-climb down the waterfalls. After all the adventures, we are returning back to Ljubljana late in the afternoon.

Primorska No need to wake up early to grab a bite to eat as breakfast will be served at our first stop in front of Predjama Castle. It is one of the world’s most dramatic castles. It teaches a clear lesson: if you want to build an impregnable fortification, put it in the gaping mouth of a cavern halfway up a 123 m cliff. Its four storeys were built piecemeal over the years from 1202, but most of what you see today is from the 16th century. It looks simply unconquerable. After the castle, we will head to the immense system of karst caves at Postojna, a Unesco World Heritage site. For many travellers a visit here will be a highlight of their Slovenia trip – a page right out of Jules Verne’s A Journey to the Centre of the Earth. Touring the huge, spectacular subterranean chambers is a must. Afterwards we will head to the seaside where we will have lunch and check in at our accommodation. You will have the rest of the afternoon off in order for you to relax on the beach and go for a swim.

Slovenia has only 47 km of coastline on the Adriatic Sea. Three seaside towns – Koper, Izola and glorious Piran – are full of important Venetian Gothic architecture, and have clean beaches, boats for rent and rollicking bars. On day two we will pay a visit to picturesque Piran (Pirano in Italian), which is sitting pretty at the tip of a narrow peninsula and is everyone’s favourite town on the Slovenian coast. Its Old Town – one of the best preserved historical towns anywhere on the Adriatic – is a gem of Venetian Gothic architecture. It’s hard not to instantly fall in love with the atmospheric winding alleyways, the sunsets and the seafood restaurants. Afterwards we will pack our stuff and head towards Izola, where we are going to embark a boat. The boat-ride will of course be private and only for exchange students. On the three hour long journey, we will have the opportunity to check out our shores from a different perspective and jump in the water in the meantime to cool down. Lunch will be served on the boat, so you won’t get hungry in the middle of the sea. After the cruise you will have some free time before we will head back to Ljubljana.

15

Posočje In the morning, after breakfast of course, we will head to Bovec and take the cable car to reach the peak of Kanin. The circular cableway will take you up to 2202 metres, where incredible views will open up on the Alps and the Adriatic Sea. Back in the valley, we will prepare ourselves a picnic, before we will go rafting. Rafting on the Soča River will definitely leave you wanting more! It’s an activity irresistible to true adrenaline lovers. Rafting is considered to be the most popular sports activity by visitors of Bovec. Participants are not required to have any specific previous knowledge as this activity is suitable for people of all ages. Rafting on the Soča River in Slovenia offers an ideal combination of activity, relaxation, adrenaline and an unforgettable experience. After we get out of the water we will head back to Ljubljana.
