Escape the City: Celebrate Eid Al Fitr in budgetfriendly Armenia, Georgia, or Azerbaijan

With Eid Al Fitr, it’s time to start thinking about how you’ll spend this upcoming long weekend. If you’re looking for a budget-friendly vacation outside the UAE, then look no further than Armenia, Georgia, and Azerbaijan. These three countries offer a unique blend of European and Asian cultures that make for a memorable and exciting experience.

While it may seem like it’s too late to book a ticket, going through the DIY route can actually save you a lot of money. As someone who has been to Armenia several times, I always prefer to do things on my own. Booking a ticket through airlines like Wizz Air or Fly Dubai can definitely get you the best price possible. And when it comes to accommodations, there are plenty of luxury rooms available in the center of Yerevan at affordable prices. In fact, you may even be able to negotiate a discount if you ask!

But before you jet off to your destination, be sure to prepare your e-visa ahead

of time. This is important to avoid long lines at immigration upon arrival. You can easily apply for an e-visa online through the government website. Just search for “e-visa Armenia” in your search bar, and you’ll find the process to be easy and hassle-free.

When it comes to exploring the country, there are many affordable tour options available. For example, Sunny Armenia offers exclusive travel and tours for a day, which won’t break the bank. And if you’re worried about language barriers, rest assured that English is widely spoken in Armenia, making communication easy and stress-free.

As for food, Armenian cuisine is simply

fantastic, and you’ll definitely want to try their traditional delicacies. Don’t be deceived by the fancy and expensivelooking restaurants in Yerevan; some of the best food can be found in smaller, more affordable eateries.

This Eid Al Fitr, take advantage of the long weekend and create wonderful memories that will last a lifetime. And when you return to the usual 8-hour workday, you’ll have something to look back on and cherish. Whether you choose to visit Armenia, Georgia, or Azerbaijan, these countries offer an unbeatable combination of affordability, culture, and adventure. So why not pack your bags and explore the beauty of the Caucasus region?

Martin Victor: A Fashion Designer’s Journey to Unique and Sustainable Style

12 DVM-DUBAI VIBES MAGAZINE VOLUME 3 • ISSUE 2 • APRIL 2023 PEOPLE

Martin Victor, a Dubai-based fashion designer, has been in the industry for a decade. He began his career as a model and continued until 2018, when he co-founded The House of Victor in December 2019. He evolved into the person he is today by working with wellknown designers and industry figures.

When asked about the House of Victor’s style and aesthetic, Martin Victor described it as a street-ready, identityfocused apparel brand. “While there are many other brands out there, the House of Victor is unique in its approach, “ he said.

During the interview with the iconic designer, he stated that the current trend in the fashion world is for oversized, plain silhouettes. Because of this, he decided to make Operation Victor FW24 entirely plain, in contrast to their usual bold, printed designs.

Martin also shared that he finds inspiration in commonplace activities like taking walks around his house, spending time with his dogs, or cooking when asked how he stays creative and inspired while creating new collections.

He even mentioned that, “Combining these small pleasures motivates me to stay creative.”

Martin described his design process to us, explaining that he begins by imagining the plot, the scenes, and the kind of person who would wear the clothing. Then, in order to give his ideas life, he sketches them.

Balancing commercial success with artistic integrity is essential for any fashion designer. Martin uttered, “I prioritize my Victor Art pieces, knowing that commercial success will follow suit.”

He also emphasized that patience, being well-informed, and precise in communication are crucial for those starting in the fashion industry.

“With discipline and written goals, everything will come at the right time,” Martin shared.

House of Victor places a high priority on sustainability and moral behavior. “I enjoy the process of choosing the best materials for my designs,” Martin said.

“I also make sure to gather information and sources that align with our ethical and sustainable practices,” he added.

Martin Victor’s greatest success as a fashion designer has been hosting their first fashion show in Dubai in 2021. The media, lights, applause, and crowd size, he said, “surpassed my expectations.”

House of Victor has a ton of upcoming partnerships and endeavors, including performances in Brazil, India, the US, Egypt, and Argentina for the second consecutive year.

He has worked with notable regional and global brands like UNICEF, Samer Khouzami Makeup Artist, Antoine Saliba World of Jewelry, and MIELE.

At a young age, Charbel developed a passion for art and design after being enchanted by the fantastical worlds that these grand mansions in Beirut created. As he recalls, “I would lose myself in the fantasy, and I understood the power of space.” After realizing this, Charbel pursued what he believed to be his calling.

When asked about his dreams and goals, he stated that he does not believe in dreams and instead sets goals and plans for how to achieve them. He aspires to be an international household name, and his work is already gaining traction thanks to his weekly decoration segment on Tele Liban, a Lebanese TV channel where he gives advice on interior design, decoration, and the latest trends in the field.

Where it all started

This man of greatness has spent the last two years traveling between Beirut and Dubai. He describes Dubai as a futuristic city, and Beirut as a glamorous past. Due to Lebanon’s current economic crisis, He has chosen to remain in Beirut because he believes that the youth will raise the new Lebanon.

One of the things Charbel enjoys about his current work is meeting clients and

trying to understand their personalities. “Each design should look like the personality, lifestyle, and need of the client I’m designing to,” he explains. He also enjoys the art of combining materials to create a nice harmony and watching the execution part where he sees his designs come to life.

Charbel, an artist, considers it to be his life’s work to enhance the beauty of the world. Even though he is aware that everyone experiences stress, difficulties, and problems, if his designs can help

His passion for Greek cinema inspired him to edit more than 300 records and immerse himself in the discography in 1989. He also saved and recorded significant soundtracks by illustrious Greek composers. In 1998, Makis began working with biographies of notable Greek actors, and as of today, he has signed 50 books, albums, and collector’s monographs about the top performers in theater and film. He talked about how much he enjoyed Greek movies as a kid, particularly Dalianidis’ musicals. Makis believed that his passion for Greek cinema was a defining characteristic of his life and a source of artistic inspiration.

He emphasized the value of talent and effort for an actor as well as the need for knowledge to devote one’s life to the field. For Makis, the theater is magic and a unique profession that demands passion, sacrifice, and commitment.

Denis Liam Murphy: A Journey from Paperboy to High Performance Coach, Entrepreneur, and Author

18 DVM-DUBAI VIBES MAGAZINE VOLUME 3 • ISSUE 2 • APRIL 2023 PEOPLE

Denis Liam Murphy is the cofounder of RoundTable Global and Beyond Bamboo, as well as a high-performance coach, author, and entrepreneur. He has lived in Dubai for the past nine years, using it as a base to travel the world as a digital nomad.

Denis was born in North West London, United Kingdom, and at the age of ten, he began working as a paperboy for his neighborhood newsstand. At the ages of 14 and 17, this man worked after school at the neighborhood grocery store and Sainsbury’s. Before, his goal was to work in Japan when he received his degree in East Asian Studies from Sheffield University. When that did not materialize, he was forced to take a less appealing position selling advertising space in a trade publication.

This respectful man rose to the position of operations manager after spending five years working in London’s rat race. Nevertheless, he lost his job after 18 months. He was feeling lost and unsure of his life’s purpose. But rather than starting over, he was more afraid of returning to a job he detested. He entered the world of entrepreneurship for the first time at the age of 31 by working as a personal trainer. Up until the age of 36, he traveled the globe to learn about physical therapy, nutrition, massage, and strength and conditioning.

Denis spent the following five years traveling the globe to learn about human behavior, energy medicine, and healing

because he felt that he needed personal development and healing. Around 2014, he arrived in Dubai and began working at Illuminations Wellness Center, where he led retreats and individual and group healing sessions. He still uses Dubai as his home base and keeps traveling the globe.

The start of entrepreneurship

In 2015, Denis and Tiffany Kelly founded the learning and development business RoundTable Global. They quickly began collaborating with significant organizations and providing distinctive leadership programs. A few years later, they established Beyond Bamboo, a business that provides customers and the hospitality sector with goods and services that are environmentally friendly.

Denis is also a high-performance coach taking people through the blame recovery process. His career highlight is finally finishing his book, “The Blame GameHow to Recover from the World’s Oldest Addiction” and having it published after ten years of writing it.

Denis responded, “My dream is to change the course of history,” when asked about his dream, aspirations, and childhood experiences that shaped him to become the person he is today. I am looking forward to a world where these are not the predominate feelings and experiences because of what I know about blame and the anger, hatred, conflict, and abuse it causes.”

He continued by describing how his upbringing had been filled with stress, bullying, and a lot of anger. Denis overcame his problems by engaging in physical activity, which helped him develop a robust body and mind that would be extremely helpful to him later in life as he underwent uncomfortable emotional healing.

He enjoys assisting others in accomplishing the impossibly. Watching people accomplish things they once believed to be impossible is priceless in his eyes. Helping people recover from illnesses that are thought to be incurable inspires a magical sense of wonderment at our boundless human potential.

It is motivational to learn about Denis Liam Murphy’s journey from personal trainer to high performance coach and author. His drive to enable others to accomplish the seemingly impossible and his aspiration to alter the course of history are admirable. Anyone looking to overcome blame and build a better life should read Denis’ book “The Blame Game - How to Recover from the World’s Oldest Addiction.”

19 DVM-DUBAI VIBES MAGAZINE PEOPLE
“The world doesn’t know yet how much blame impacts their health, happiness and success. We have grown to accept blame, and all the emotions that result, as a normal part of our lives, but it is in fact a learnt behaviour. Hate, anger, revenge, shame and guilt are not natural human traits.”

Mostafa Eissa: From Passionate Storyteller to Successful Film Editor

20 DVM-DUBAI VIBES MAGAZINE VOLUME 3 • ISSUE 2 • APRIL 2023 PEOPLE

Mostafa Eissa is a film editor from Egypt and the founder of Edge Post Production, a leading post-production company based in the UAE. He has over a decade of industry experience and has edited and worked on a wide range of projects, from TV commercials to feature films and TV shows. Mostafa’s life philosophy revolves around education and perseverance, as he believes that anyone can achieve anything if they work hard and never give up.

His love of storytelling served as the foundation for his career as a film editor. Despite having started out studying computer science, he believed that making movies was his true calling. This great man invested countless hours in self-study and market research before securing his first position as an assistant editor in 2007. He began working as a film editor four years later, and he hasn’t looked back since.

Leaving his home country to pursue his dream in the UAE was one of Eissa’s biggest career challenges. Mostafa was determined to become well-known in the UAE despite lacking contacts or industry

knowledge. He used a variety of jobsearch strategies, including dropping off his resume at businesses and contacting everyone he knew about openings. He persisted, and now he is the owner of a flourishing post-production business.

Film expert life

According to Mostafa, a successful film editor must be solution-focused, have a positive outlook, and be constantly learning and watching. He observes that the essence of film editing is problemsolving and counsels aspiring editors to stop whining and start fixing.

He takes special pride in his work on “Prince of Poet Season 9,” a difficult project that required conducting auditions with more than 300 poets via Zoom calls throughout the pandemic. Through this project, he learned that even the most basic tools can be used to create magic.

When working on multiple projects at the same time, he prioritizes the most difficult first and then moves on to the easier ones. He considers his ability to disconnect from the outside world and

focus on his work to be a critical skill that allows him to manage his time effectively.

Mostafa advises aspiring film editors to keep learning and studying. He believes that learning is an ongoing process and that by constantly improving one’s skills, one can become the best film editor. One of the most important lessons he’s learned throughout his career is that the biggest risk is not taking risks.

His passion for what he does, as well as the knowledge that his name is attached to every project he works on, keep him motivated and inspired. On his YouTube channel, “Msh Tutorial,” he also shares his knowledge and techniques.

Looking ahead, Mostafa believes that the incorporation of AI in filmmaking is important. To stay competitive in the industry, he advises filmmakers to adapt and learn about AI. His love of filmmaking, combined with his determination to constantly learn and improve, has allowed him to become a successful film editor and entrepreneur in the UAE.

Dr. Loretta Sanders: A Motivational Speaker and Transformation Coach who Inspires transformation in lives

Dr. Loretta Sanders has over 23 years of experience as an educator, motivational speaker, pastor, and transformational coach. Despite switching to a new career path, she is still employed in education because training teachers is her passion.

She is a grandmother to three children and a mother to two. She is a high achiever with seven degrees under her belt, including a Doctorate in Christian Counseling, a Master’s in School Leadership, and a Master’s in Theology and Religious Studies. She began teaching in the elementary grades, obtained a certification in the subject, then earned a master’s degree in school administration. Following her ordination as a pastor, she enrolled in a theology and religious studies program before continuing her education to earn a doctorate in Christian counseling.

Dr. Loretta moved to Abu Dhabi in 2010 and worked there for about five

years before moving to Dubai as a high school principal. She decided to try international teaching when the US economy was struggling.

“I do not have one particular highlight, but I will say the thing that I love most about what I do is that I get an opportunity to help people transform their lives and become a better version of themselves,” says Dr. Loretta.

This empowered woman once envisioned herself as a race car driver and later as the first black woman to serve on the US Supreme Court. In the 1970s and 1980s, she grew up in an area outside of Pittsburgh where drugs, crime, and other social problems were pervasive. She pushed for more, though, and never let her surroundings hold her back.

“I always knew there was more. There was always something inside me that said there was more or there was better,” says Dr. Loretta.

She has spent the last 12 years in the United Arab Emirates and has held positions as an elementary teacher, high school principal, counselor, motivational speaker, and transformational coach in the past. Kjetil Urheim: Finding Meaning and Purpose in Leading a Brilliant Team in Dubai

28 DVM-DUBAI VIBES MAGAZINE VOLUME 3 • ISSUE 2 • APRIL 2023 PEOPLE

Kjetil Urheim is the General Manager of Jotun UAE, a multinational paint and coatings company. His marketing career has taken him from Norway to Indonesia and finally to Dubai, and he has over 34 years of experience. Kjetil, a divorced father of two grown-up daughters, has found new meaning and purpose in leading a team of brilliant people at Jotun UAE.

This driven man shared that his two uncles, who ran their own hotel and engineering consultancy, were his childhood heroes and role models. He was inspired by their hectic lifestyle of leading others, attending meetings, and experiencing the affluent side of life.

“Looking up to these two men from my childhood made it clear to me quite early on that I had to get into the Norwegian

School of Economics and Business Administration – and I did,” he shared.

His career life

Kjetil began working full-time after completing his Master of International Business at the age of 25. He has since held various marketing roles in Scandinavia and Indonesia, as well as global responsibilities as Jotun’s VP Marketing from 2013 to 2020. He regards his current position as the pinnacle of his career, leading a brilliant team of penguins (as Jotun people refer to one another) in Jotun UAE and living in Dubai.

When asked about his current job, he stated, “A psychologist once told me, ‘you should only work with talented people’and the team and culture in Jotun UAE

are exactly that; brilliant people - and it is very satisfying!” He went on to say that the company’s culture is forwardthinking, with the emphasis always on improving their performance from the day before.

His outlook on life has shifted, and his current position has brought out the best in him. He believes that ensuring that those around him feel ownership of what they do and accountability for their area of responsibility is critical to unlocking their full potential. Positive reinforcement is also important to him; praising someone when they excel and explaining why they are praised will increase their energy, determination, and performance.

Privilege life

Kjetil has learned to prioritize his health, happiness, and work in his personal life. He has taken the time and opportunity to investigate himself and discover what works best for him to relax, de-stress, and re-energize.

“I realized I am in a phase of life that is completely opposite of what many parents experience when their children are young, and the day does not have enough hours,” he explained.

Being a GM is more than just a job for him; it’s an opportunity to develop feelings of care and affection for his team, similar to how parents feel about their children. His work gives him meaning and purpose, which gives him energy and a desire to do better.

Kjetil is looking forward to the future as his journey in Dubai has only just begun. He feels privileged to be in charge of the oldest Jotun business in the MEIA region, and he finds inspiration in the team’s wisdom and maturity. He is sure that Jotun UAE will keep innovating and flourishing in the region thanks to their fantastic team and culture.

“I think every human being has many inherent talents, just waiting to be released, so I would advise people to go with their passion – what they enjoy doing –and develop their talent in this area.”

N1YAH - Transmuting

Energy into

Music

Finding Meaning and Purpose in Leading a Brilliant Team in Dubai

30 DVM-DUBAI VIBES MAGAZINE VOLUME 3 • ISSUE 2 • APRIL 2023 PEOPLE

N1YAH, a Lebanese-born and raised artist in Dubai, is an eclectic musician whose approach to music stems from utilizing and integrating everything that speaks to our senses and expands our imagination. She began making music with her sister at a young age, and by the age of 11, she was already creating her own music.

In an interview, N1YAH discussed her journey as a music maker and how it all began with a desire to live a life other than her disciplined life as a professional athlete. Music became her escapism, a medium through which she could express herself freely and playfully.

Being a female artist, particularly one who began as a rapper, presented some difficulties, particularly in the Middle East where there was no established precedent for it. This is why N1YAH said, “It’s exactly what makes this a welcome challenge for me.” She relishes balancing her masculine and feminine energies in playful ways, challenging those who believe they understand her completely.

In a field of music that is constantly changing, N1YAH believes in keeping an open mind, an open eye, an open ear, and an open door, listening to the young and the new, learning how to unlearn, and learning how to stay true to one’s essence while letting go of the desire to be relevant.

This innovative and trailblazer artist is proud of all of her work, but she takes special pride in the projects she developed by transforming energy from specific circumstances into an entirely new vibe. She finds it inspiring when an artist can channel energy from their surroundings into their work.

N1YAH thinks that developing a successful music career and becoming an icon requires much more than just a set of skills. Power lies in the ability to keep going, so it’s critical to develop these abilities while also taking care of one’s mental health.

An artist’s creative vision can be hampered by the demands of the industry and commercial success, but she thinks that interference should be allowed while remaining grounded and taking only what advances her career and leaving behind what detracts from her core.

When N1YAH rocked out with MobbDeep during their performance in Dubai, it was one of her most memorable career moments. She continues to take criticism and feedback with a grain of salt because she thinks there is always room to improve without compromising her sound and vision.

This woman advises aspiring music creators to be completely honest with themselves about their personal goals and weigh the risks associated with pursuing music as a career.

N1YAH believes that technology and artificial intelligence will play a significant role in the future of music creation and the industry, and she is prepared to adapt to the changes and grow with it.

She is a musician who transforms energy into sound, striking a balance between the sexes, remaining true to her identity while adjusting to industry changes.

Cultural heritage of Russia: Exploring the Moscow Metro Big Circle Line

The city of Moscow, the capital of Russia, has long been known for its rich history and cultural heritage. The Global Filipino had the pleasure of visiting this fascinating city and exploring some of its most iconic landmarks and attractions. The visit was made possible through an invitation from Moscow Metro in celebration of the opening of the Big Circle Line, and we were among the few media entities from the UAE to be included in this special event.

During our first day, we had a tour of Moscow’s historical center, where we learned about the city’s history and saw some of its iconic landmarks. We were amazed by the beautiful architecture of the buildings and the rich history behind each one of them.

During the remaining days of our visit, we explored more of Moscow’s famous attractions, including the Moscow Kremlin and the State Armoury Chamber. We also had a sightseeing tour of Moscow, Poklonnaya Gora, and Vorobyovy Gory.

One of the most interesting aspects of our visit was the tour of the Tretyakov Gallery on Krymsky Val. We were amazed by the avant-garde works used in the decoration of the Sokolniki station, and the red supports at the Mnyovniki station referenced the works of Kazimir Malevich. The Khoroshyovskaya Station was decorated with Suprematist compositions inspired by the works of ten outstanding painters: Kazimir Malevich, Alexander Rodchenko, Lyubov Popova, Alexandra Exter, the Vesnin brothers, Moisei Ginzburg, Ilya Golosov, Ivan Leonidov, Nikolai Ladovsky, and Konstantin Melnikov.

The main part of the visit was the excursion to the Big Circle Line. The line has 31 stations and covers a distance of 70 km, making it the longest circle metro line in the world.

Our stay in Moscow was made comfortable and convenient, thanks to the AZIMUT City Hotel in Smolenskaya. Our guide, Tanya, was very knowledgeable about the city and its history, and she helped us navigate through the bustling streets and tourist spots.

On the second day, we visited the palace of Tsar Alexei Mikhalovich, which is located in the Kolomenskoye Estate. This palace is an excellent example of Russian architecture, and its design elements are similar to those of the Big Circle Line station, Klenovy Bulvar. We also had the opportunity to experience a virtual reality tour called “Flight over Moscow” in Zaryadye Park, which allowed us to see the city from a different perspective.

Our visit to Moscow was an unforgettable experience that allowed us to discover the rich history and cultural heritage of this beautiful city.

The visit is part of the press tour organized by the Moscow Metro that runs through the city’s suburbs and connects them to the city center. The line has 31 stations and covers a distance of 70 km, making it the longest metro line in the world.

We are incredibly grateful to the Moscow Metro for the invitation and the opportunity to explore Moscow’s iconic landmarks and attractions through their well-crafted tour. The Big Circle Line’s expertise and knowledge of Moscow’s history and culture made our visit a memorable and enjoyable experience.
