SYNC MY ASS. This month’s Editor’s letter is all about DJs, the ones that are supposed to make people dance, entertain the crowd with their skills by creating a trip over a certain time span, depending on the length of their set. The shamans of the night, taking the crowd to a higher consciousness through music.

La editorial de este mes va sobre DJs, esos que se suponen que tienen que hacer que la gente baile, entretener al público con sus habilidades al crear un viaje sobre determinado periodo de tiempo, dependiendo de la duración de su sesión. Los chamanes de la noche, llevando al público a una percepción más elevada a través de la música.

With all the technical progress during the last few years something really strange happened, all of a sudden you find people behind the decks that have little or no clue of what this is all about. Not only since the EDM hype in the USA the profession of being a DJ somehow reached superstar status, putting them in one line with ‘real’ musicians or other celebrities, exploding the fees of the most wanted and one might ask himself ‘is this is all right’?

Con todos los avances técnicos de los últimos años, algo realmente extraño ha sucedido. De repente, encuentras a gente detrás de los platos que tiene poca o ninguna idea de lo que se trata. No solamente desde la moda de EDM en los Estados Unidos, la profesión de DJ de alguna manera ha alcanzado estatus de superestrella, poniéndolos a la misma altura que músicos ‘de verdad’ u otras celebridades, explotando los honorarios de los más deseados, y uno puede que se pregunte a sí mismo, ‘¿está esto bien?’

The inventor of the sync button is, in my humble opinion, the left or/and right hand of the devil, with this little feature it became possible to mix two tracks without having a clue of how to match two tracks by using a pitch to adjust their speed until they are synchronized. This ability had to be learned step by step as it looks a lot easier as it really is, you need to have a fine feeling for rhythm and should know the tracks really well to create a good mix. The sync button makes all this irrelevant, or that is what some might think, as it automatically synchronizes the beats, making it easy to blend from one track into the other. Yes i said blend, not mix, because to create a good mix you must know the right moment of both tracks to take the listener on a journey without any friction, unless you do it on purpose. But for some, with this button the only thing left do do is shake your arms and pretend you are the greatest DJ on Earth. As Derrick from Tone of Arc says, ‘your cheap hotel living, shitty food and overpaid DJ fee does not give you the right to treat others like shit just because you think you are the shit! ‘ As a musician or DJ you have a great responsibility, music is the universal language so you better know how to speak it, otherwise you should go and get a ‘real’ job. We all heard about big DJs playing prerecorded sets on stage, often with the excuse that if something goes wrong the show would be ruined - wtf? So what are you doing up there if you fear to fail?? The latest addition to this frenzy is the appearance of Paris Hilton ‘performing’ at ‘Foam & Diamonds’ - mama mia, as if we did not see enough mediocre performances in our super clubs during the last years. And i bet my left pinkie she has no clue of what she is doing! But as it is so hip to be a DJ she needs to disgrace this profession as well. And i thought with all the topless DJanes we already hit rock bottom...

El inventor del botón Sync es, en mi humilde opinión, la mano derecha –o izquierda- del diablo. Con este pequeño mecanismo se ha hecho posible mezclar dos pistas sin tener ni idea de cómo cuadrar dos pistas usando el pitch para ajustar su velocidad hasta que estén sincronizadas. Esta habilidad ha de aprenderse paso a paso, ya que parece mucho más fácil de lo que realmente es. Necesitas tener un buen sentido del ritmo y deberías conocer las pistas muy bien para crear una buena mezcla. El botón Sync hace que todo esto sea irrelevante, o eso es lo que algunos deben pensar, ya que sincroniza los ritmos automáticamente, haciendo más fácil pasar de una pista a otra. Sí, he dicho pasar y no mezclar, porque para crear una buena mezcla debes conocer el momento adecuado de ambas pistas para llevar al oyente en un viaje sin fricción, a no ser que lo hagas a propósito. Pero para algunos, con este botón lo único que necesitas hacer es sacudir los brazos y pretender que eres el mejor DJ del planeta. Como dice Derrick, de ‘Tone of Arc’, ‘vivir esa vida barata de hotel en hotel, con comida de mierda y tus excesivos honorarios de DJ no te dan derecho a tratar a los demás como una mierda sólo porque crees que tú eres la hostia!’ Como músico o DJ tienes una gran responsabilidad. La música es un lenguaje universal, así que es mejor que aprendas cómo hablarlo, de otro modo deberías dejarlo y buscarte un trabajo ‘de verdad’ Todos hemos oído hablar de grandes DJs tocando en el escenario sesiones pregrabadas, a menudo con la excusa de que si algo sale mal se arruinaría el show - ¡qué coño! Entonces, ¿qué haces ahí arriba si tienes miedo a fallar? La última incorporación a esta locura es la aparición de Paris Hilton ‘actuando’ en ‘Foam & Diamonds’ – ¡madre mía! Como si no hubiéramos visto ya suficientes actuaciones mediocres en nuestros super clubs durante los últimos años. Y, me apuesto la cabeza a que ¡no tiene ni idea de lo que hace! Pero, como está tan de moda ser un DJ, también necesita poner en ridículo a la profesión. Y yo que pensaba que con todas las DJanes en topless ya habíamos tocado fondo…

This article is not so much about Ibiza but something that affects all of us and its outcome is noticeable everywhere - the every day more common total control of our governments over what we do, how we do it, when and with whom. No, I’m not talking about sex but almost everything that includes our daily lives. Cities like London or Paris have the highest number of cameras that capture almost every corner of the whole city and everybody knows but nobody seems to care about it. Man of the moment Edward Snowden is no hero, he did what everybody in his situation believing in real democracy should have done, to give the information to the people to decide whether we agree with it or not. He definitely did nothing wrong, he did not work for any foreign country nor tried to enrich himself with this information, he simply shared it. The real danger behind it is that by mentioning things they can become common, we start to get used to them, and if our personal freedom is in danger it is the beginning of the end. George Orwell already knew in 1948, when he wrote one of the most famous books of all time - 1984, what are the fatal consequences of a totalitarian government, and it seems like we are right on the highway towards it. What seems to be a liberate world is in reality a world of controlled media and manipulated information to keep the majority of us citizens of the ‘First World’ in fear and search for security in a truly perverted way. The end of this frenzy is that we all stay isolated in our little apartments feeling safe by being controlled in order to protect us from the bad guys, the evil, whatever this is supposed to be. According to Orwell we will as well have massive TV screens that have to be switched on 24/7 being capable to not only broadcast but record what is going on in what is left over from our private life, and that was in 1949 - he came pretty close... Another one of my favourite writers is Aldous Huxley, his most famous book is ‘Brave New World’, published for the first time in 1932, talking about more or less the same, a world which seems to be perfect but where all people are completely brainwashed and all that think different are deported merciless to special camps where they are submitted to special treatments to see if they can be reintegrated in society or need to ‘disappear’. Sounds familiar somehow as well, no? Who knows what the webcam in our computer is doing? Am i being watched right now as i write these words? And is it possible that by capturing the strokes on my keyboard they record the words i write? This sounds Science Fiction to you? Well i can tell you it is not, all of this is reality, the only good thing about it is the fact that the amount of information is so unimaginably high that they 20

can not control it all and installed some kind of filters to detect the ones that use indexed words in order to localize them. That is basically what ‘Prism’ does, the program the US uses to spy the rest of the world. By the way, in this article there are about 25 of them :) The only hope i see is that out of all the revelations people like Edward Snowden or Julian Assange bring to us we will use the technical progress against the ones in charge trying to get total control. There is a bunch of programmers that invent coding software impossible to be decoded so we can write mails again knowing that the only person who will be able to read it is the one we want to. And regarding the webcam just put a sticker on top when you don’t use it, as simple as that. One last thing, this whole ‘cloud’ thing is nothing else than more of the same, how can you expect a virtual server where you store your personal information to be absolutely safe? The only way to be sure about where you store your personal data is and stays a traditional hard drive that you plug in when you need it and unplug when you don’t, knowing that unless somebody physically takes it nobody will have access to it. To end this short essay about mind control i want to say that we never had easier access to information than today but that does not mean that this information is the truth, everybody is free to search the web for whatever you want to find, just be aware that no written or spoken word, no picture, no movie or other content is necessarily what it seems to be.

YOU Este artículo no es tanto sobre Ibiza, sino sobre algo que nos afecta a todos nosotros y cuyo resultado es visible por todas partes – el cada día más común control total de nuestros gobiernos sobre lo que hacemos, cómo lo hacemos, cuándo y con quién. No, no estoy hablando de sexo, sino de prácticamente todo lo que forma parte nuestra vida diaria. Ciudades como Londres o París poseen el mayor número de cámaras, que capturan casi cada esquina de toda la ciudad y todo el mundo lo sabe, pero a nadie parece importarle. El hombre del momento, Edward Snowden no es ningún héroe. Hizo lo que cualquiera en su situación, creyendo en una verdadera democracia debería haber hecho, proveer la información a la gente para que decida, tanto si estamos de acuerdo con ello como si no. No cabe duda de que no hizo nada malo, no trabajaba para ningún país extranjero ni intentó enriquecerse a sí mismo con esta información, él simplemente la compartió. El verdadero peligro por detrás de esto es que al mencionar las cosas, éstas pueden volverse cotidianas, empezamos a acostumbrarnos a ellas y cuando nuestra libertad personal está en peligro, es el principio del fin. George Orwell ya sabía en 1948, cuando escribió uno de los libros más famosos de todos los tiempos - 1984, cuáles eran las fatales consecuencias de un gobierno totalitario y parece que nosotros estamos justo en la autopista hacia esto. Lo que parece ser un mundo liberal es en realidad un mundo de medios de comunicación controlados e información manipulada para mantenernos a la mayoría de nosotros, ciudadanos del ‘Primer Mundo’, con miedo y en búsqueda de seguridad de una manera verdaderamente distorsionada. El final de esta locura es que todos terminemos aislados en nuestros pequeños apartamentos sintiéndonos seguros mientras nos controlan para protegernos de los malos, el mal, lo que quiera que se suponga que sea esto. Según Orwell, también tendremos pantallas gigantes de televisión que han de estar encendidas 24 horas al día, 7 días por semana, capaces no sólo de emitir, sino también de grabar lo que sucede en lo que quede de nuestra vida privada. Y eso fue en 1949 – le anduvo muy cerca. Otro de mis escritores favoritos es Aldous Huxley. Su libro más famoso es ‘Un Mundo Feliz’, publicado por primera vez en 1932 y que hablaba más o menos de lo mismo, un mundo que parece ser perfecto pero donde a todo el mundo le lavan el cerebro por completo y donde todos los que piensan de forma diferente son deportados sin piedad a campos especiales donde se les somete a tratamientos especiales, para ver si se les puede reintegrar en la sociedad o si es necesario que ‘desaparezcan’. De alguna manera esto también suena familiar, ¿no? ¿Quién sabe lo está haciendo la cámara web de nuestro ordenador?

¿He estado siendo observado ahora mismo mientras escribo estas palabras? Y, ¿es posible que al capturar los golpes en mi teclado graben las palabras que escribo? ¿Esto te suena a ciencia ficción? Bueno, puedo decirte que no lo es, todo esto es real, lo único bueno que tiene es el hecho de que la cantidad de información es tan inimaginablemente alta que no pueden controlarlo todo y han instalado una especie de filtros para detectar a los que usan palabras indexadas con el fin de localizarlos. Esto es básicamente lo que hace ‘Prisma’, el programa que usan los Estados Unidos para espiar al resto del mundo. Por cierto, en este artículo hay unas 25 de ellas :) La única esperanza que yo veo es que de entre todas las revelaciones que gente como Edward Snowden o Julian Assange nos hagan, usemos el progreso tecnológico contra los que están al mando intentando conseguir el control total. Existen un montón de programadores que han inventado software codificado imposible de ser descodificado, para que otra vez podamos escribir emails sabiendo que la única persona que los leerá es la que nosotros queremos que lo haga. La única manera de estar seguro acerca de donde guardas tu información personal es quedarse con un disco duro tradicional, de los que conectas cuando lo necesitas y desconectas cuando no te hace falta, sabiendo que a no ser que alguien físicamente lo coja, nadie tendrá acceso a él. Para terminar este pequeño ensayo sobre el control de la mente, me gustaría decir que nunca habíamos tenido un acceso a la información más fácil del que tenemos hoy en día, pero esto no significa que esta información sea la verdad. Cualquiera es libre de buscar en internet cualquier cosa que quiera encontrar, pero debes ser consciente de que ninguna palabra escrita o hablada, ninguna imagen, ninguna película o cualquier otro contenido es necesariamente lo que parece ser. 7.2

WHICH IS NOT SURPRISING BECAUSE WITH A SIZE OF 83,2 KM², 69 KM OF COASTLINE, MAGNIFICENT BEACHES, TURQUOISE WATERS AND A PERFECT ARRANGEMENT BETWEEN TOURISM AND NATURE ONE CAN SAFELY CALL FORMENTERA A TRUE PARADISE IN THE MEDITERRANEAN. WHILE THE PEOPLE ON IBIZA MEET TO SHARE A PARTY, MOST PEOPLE ON FORMENTERA WANT TO SHARE AND ENJOY THE SOLITUDE. LET YOURSELF TOO BE SEDUCED BY THE UNIQUE BEAUTY OF THIS ISLAND. THAT DOES NOT MEAN YOU CAN NOT HAVE A GOOD PARTY OVER THERE, AS YOU WILL FIND OUT SOON. For a daytrip I recommend setting out early. If you missed catching a private yacht or do not have your own one you can still take one of the ferries that leave hourly from the Estación Marítima, Ibiza harbour. On the passage you’ll already notice how the wind and salt water clean all the stress from your soul. When you’ve arrived in the harbour of La Savina, you should first get yourself some sort of vehicle. Various rent-a-cars offer cars, motorbikes or the new electric bikes (we highly recommend using one of these...), and, for the athletic ones amongst you, also bicycles. There are perfect circuits to explore the island called ‘Green Circuits’. The rental prices differ greatly, so it’s worth checking out various companies. Don’t forget taking a map, the island is bigger than one might think. Fancy a good breakfast? Then you should go to San Francesc, the capital of Formentera. There’s a wide range of cafés and bars. For the granola fans among you I recommend the Café Matinal; also very good is the Ginovale.

Behind the historical town hall square with its 17th century church is the restaurant Cana Pepa, where you get delicious fresh juices in the patio. You’ll immediately notice that Formentera and its inhabitants are very relaxed. After breakfast you should take a stroll through the colourful shopping street. An important suggestion: Don’t forget to buy a good sunscreen and a hat. The sun is even stronger than in Ibiza, and if you don’t watch out, you’ll get roasted!!! Your stomach is full and you’re equipped with everything you need? Then it’s time to decide, sightseeing or beach! If you like sightseeing, you should do it in the early morning hours, before the midday heat, or afterwards, in the late afternoon, when it’s getting a little cooler. So let’s get on the westward road. Go first to Cap de Barbaria, the long, straight road leads directly to the wind-rugged plateau and lighthouse. The almost untouched landscape is unique, and it feels as if time had stopped. Enjoy the wonderful quiet and the murmur of the ocean along the cliffs, and if you’re lucky and catch a day with clear weather, you might even see Africa… Those who’ve seen the film “Lucia y el sexo” will surely remember the spectacular cave next to the sea. The entrance to this cave is right next to the lighthouse. The big hole in the rocky ground leads directly to the ocean. A must for climbers!!! If you’d rather go for a swim, right next to it is the bay of Cala Saona with its marvellous, inviting turquoise water. While you are lying on the white sandy beach, you begin to understand Formentera’s true charm. For those amongst you who’d rather have a lonely bay to themselves, we recommend going to Sa Pedrera. Between the rough rocks you find magnificent little spots where you’ll be undisturbed. Here you can forget all stress and feel like Robinson

Crusoe, while watching Formentera’s blue salamanders bathing in the sun. You’ve had enough solitude and your heart asks for some action? Then it’s time to set out to Ses Illetes and Platja Levant, Formentera’s most popular and frequented beaches. On the white sandy beaches everyone who wants to see and be seen gets together. A piece of advice: On most of the beaches there are special walkways. This has a particular reason: Formentera’s sand dunes have a very delicate ecosystem that can easily be destroyed. So, unfortunately, we have to mention this over and over again: “RESPECT NATURE AND KEEP YOUR ENVIRONMENT CLEAN”. You’ve got an empty stomach? Ses Illetes offers a wide variety of chiringuitos and restaurants. Our recommendation is Es Moli de Sal (upper price range), Tanga and the legendary Big Sur. When the midday heat is over, it’s time to get on the road again because Formentera has much more to offer. Your next destination should be La Mola in the east. Pass the salt flats of s’Estany Pudent and s’Estany des Peix (one of the oldest salt extracting plants in the Mediterranean) and head in the direction of Es Pujols, San Ferran. From there, the road leads up to the La Mola plateau, the lighthouse at the end of the world. There’s a book called “Every man is an island”, and it describes perfectly why so many people choose islands as their place for self-discovery. Well, though you’ll surely find many people in La Mola with the same idea, there will still be a little spot where you can be alone to enjoy the

peace of those fantastic cliffs. On the way back you should stop in Es Pilar to visit its historical windmill. On Wednesdays and Sundays there’s an art market there. Some kilometres down the road you’ll find the lookout Es Mirador, offering a breathtaking view of Formentera. For those wanting to catch some more sun there’s a difficult choice to be made. On the northern side there’s Cala Traumata, with lonely, rocky bays. On the south side there are the sandy beaches of Mitjorn and Arenal. There you’ll find a wide range of chiringuitos, restaurants and accommodation. We recommend the Pirata Bus at km 11, a seventies hippy bus converted into a beach bar, or the Sol y Mar at km 10.7, a real insiders’ tip! Around km 8 there are the beach bars Blanco and Lucky, and let’s not forget the legendary Blue Bar, with a unique ambience, nice service and good food. A great place to chill in a friendly atmosphere. You should also visit the Hemingway in Es Pujols, C/ Punta Prima 1. The day’s coming to an end and you should decide if you’ll take the last boat or stay overnight. Difficult decision! In case you stay you should start looking for a place to sleep. Formentera offers a wide variety of hostels and private accommodation. A good suggestion is the Hostal Bon Sol in San Ferran or the Hotel Bahia in La Savina. The Hotel Restaurant Las Banderas at Playa Mitjorn is a must as well, including a cool Lounge Bar! If you want to go out you should start soon because the best parties happen at sunset! For the House lovers amongst you we recommend the Big Sur. If you fancy more uptempo sounds you’ll enjoy the Blue Bar. Every evening for sunset (and sometimes a little longer) DJ Massivan and guests like George Solar turn the Wheels of Steel. 7.2

So much fun you forgot to have dinner? In the legendary Fonda Pepe Bar in San Ferran you’ll get delicious Tapas until late. Still haven’t had enough fun? Then head for the tourist stronghold Es Pujols. There are loads of things to do. We recommend a visit to the local clubs Pachanqua or the ex-Xueño, since last year called by its original name from the 70’s again, Tipic. There you find the parties of Cocoon, a real jewel! Very strong this year as well is the Motel Ses Roques with their events, there you can listen to DJ Alfredo, this is legend, or one-off events with Carl Craig! Those who like it more traditional should try the stylish Casa Paco in La Savina to chill with a great Mojito or more. Whatever you do, we hope that Formentera will inspire you in its own way and that you take home the good memories and energies. Apart from that you will see no cranes, no tunnels, no road works, no cigarettes on the beaches, and, last but NOT least, no billboards polluting the environment. If you are owner of a private yate please bear in mind to not anchor where the posidonia resides, there is few left and it has great benefits for the sea, not just cleaning it. Just as we said: one of the last paradises in the Mediterranean! Next time you’re stuck in a traffic jam or some other kind of stressful situation just think about Formentera, it will relax you instantly. No joke...

FOR MENTE RA UN AUTÉNTICO PARAÍSO EN EL MEDITERRÁNEO Formentera es un oasis de paz y tranquilidad. Muchos músicos y artistas han encontrado, y siguen encontrando, su inspiración en esta isla. Lo que no resulta nada sorprendente, ya que con un tamaño de 83,2 km2, 69 km de costa, playas magníficas, aguas color turquesa y la combinación perfecta entre turismo y naturaleza, se puede decir que Formentera es un auténtico paraíso en el Mediterráneo. Mientras que en Ibiza la gente se reúne para compartir la fiesta, en Formentera la mayoría de la gente quiere compartir y disfrutar de la soledad. Bueno, sí que hay vida nocturna, y cada vez más sorprendente - como os contaremos más tarde. Hasta entonces, déjate seducir por la belleza única de esta isla. Para una excursión de un día os recomiendo empezar temprano. Si llegas tarde para el yate privado o no eres dueño de tu propio yate, siempre puedes coger uno de los barcos que sale cada hora de la Estación Marítima del puerto de Ibiza. Ya en la travesía notarás como el viento y el agua salada limpian todo el estrés de tu alma. Al llegar al puerto de la Savina deberías conseguir algún tipo de vehículo. Hay varias compañías de alquiler de vehículos que ofrecen coches, motos o bicis eléctricas (os recomendamos usar una de estas…), y para los más atléticos, bicicletas. Hay excelentes carriles bici llamados ‘Circuits Verds’ que te guían por toda la isla. Los precios de alquiler varían mucho, así que merece la pena comprobar varios y comparar. No te olvides de llevar un mapa, la isla es más grande de lo que parece. 24

¿Te apetece un buen desayuno? Entonces deberías ir a la capital de Formentera, Sant Francesc. Hay una gran gama de cafés y bares. Para los fans de la granola os recomiendo el Café Matinal; el Ginovale también es muy bueno. Detrás de la histórica plaza del ayuntamiento con su iglesia del siglo 17 está el restaurante Cana Pepa, donde puedes tomar deliciosos zumos frescos en el patio. Enseguida notarás que Formentera y sus habitantes son muy relajados. Después del desayuno deberías pasearte por la colorida calle de las tiendas. Una sugerencia importante: no te olvides de comprar un buen protector solar y un gorro. El sol pega incluso más fuerte que en Ibiza y si no tienes cuidado ¡te tostaras!!! ¿Tienes el estómago lleno y estás equipado con todo lo que necesitas? Entonces es hora de decidir, ¡turismo o playa! Si te gusta hacer turismo deberías hacerlo temprano, antes del calor del mediodía, o después, por la tarde, cuando empieza a refrescar. Empecemos por la carretera hacia el oeste. Ve primero a Cap de Barbaria, esta carretera larga y recta lleva directamente al faro y a la meseta azotada por el viento. El paisaje casi intacto es único y parece que se hubiese parado el tiempo. Disfruta del maravilloso silencio y del murmullo del océano en el acantilado, y si tienes suerte y es un día muy claro, puede que hasta veas África... Seguro que los que hayan visto la película “Lucia y el sexo” se acordaran de la espectacular cueva al lado del mar. ¡Una visita obligada para los escaladores!!! Si prefieres darte un baño, al lado está Cala Saona con su maravillosa y apetecible agua color turquesa. Tumbado en la playa de arena blanca empiezas a comprender el verdadero encanto de Formentera. Para los que prefieren una solitaria cala para ellos solos, les recomendamos que vayan a Sa Pedrera. Entre las accidentadas rocas puedes encontrar sitios magníficos donde nadie

Unos kilómetros más adelante está Es Mirador, que ofrece una vista impresionante de Formentera. Para los que quieran tomar un poco más de sol toca tomar una decisión difícil. Al norte está Cala Traumata, con solitarias calas rocosas. Al sur están las playas de arena Mitjorn y Arenal. Aquí encontrarás una gran variedad de chiringuitos, restaurantes y alojamientos. Te recomendamos el Pirata Bus en el km 11, un bus hippie de los 70 que ha sido convertido en bar de playa, o el Sol y Mar en el km 10,7, ¡un lugar recomendado por los lugareños! En el km 8 aprox. están los bares de playa Blanco y Lucky, y no nos podemos olvidar del legendario Blue Bar, ambiente único, servicio agradable y buena comida. El lugar perfecto para relajarse en un ambiente agradable. También deberíais visitar el Hemingway en Es Pujols, C/ Punta Prima 1.

Entonces es hora de encaminarte a Ses Illetes y Platja Levant, las playas más populares y frecuentadas de Formentera. En estas playas de arena blanca se encuentran todos los que quieren ver y ser vistos. Un pequeño consejo: en casi todas las playas hay pasarelas especiales. Esto es por una razón: las dunas de Formentera tienen un ecosistema muy delicado que se puede estropear muy fácilmente. Así que, desgraciadamente, tenemos que repetir esto una y otra vez: “RESPETA LA NATURALEZA Y MANTÉN LIMPIO TU ENTORNO” ¿Tienes el estómago vacío? Ses Illetes ofrece una gran variedad de chiringuitos y restaurantes. Nuestra recomendación es el Moli de Sal (precios altos), Tanga y el legendario Big Sur. Una vez pasado el calor del mediodía es hora de moverse de nuevo, ya que Formentera tiene mucho más que ofrecer. Tu siguiente destino debería de ser La Mola, al este. Pasa al lado de las salinas de s’Estany Pudent y s’Estany des Peix (uno de los sistemas de extracción de sal más antiguos del Mediterráneo) y entonces ve en dirección Es Pujols, San Ferran. Desde allí, la carretera te lleva al altiplano de la Mola, y al faro del fin del mundo. Hay un libro titulado “Every man is an island” (Todo hombre es una isla), que describe perfectamente por qué tanta gente escoge una isla como lugar de auto-descubrimiento. Bueno, aunque seguramente encontrarás a mucha gente en la Mola por las mismas razones, todavía habrá un pequeño sitio para estar solo y disfrutar de los espectaculares acantilados. A la vuelta te deberías parar en Es Pilar para ver el molino histórico. Los miércoles y domingos hay un mercado de arte.

El día se acaba y tienes que decidir si te quedas a pasar la noche o coges el último barco. ¡Difícil decisión! Si te quedas, tendrás que buscarte un sitio para dormir. Formentera ofrece una gran variedad de hostales y alojamiento privado. Una buena sugerencia es el Hostal Bon Sol, ¡qué incluye un Bar Lounge genial!, en San Ferran o el Hotel Bahia en La Savina. ¡También tienes que visitar el hotel restaurante Las Banderas en la playa Mitjorn! ¡Si quieres salir tendrás que hacerlo pronto ya que las mejores fiestas son a la puesta de sol! Para los amantes del House os recomendamos el Big Sur. Si lo que te apetece es un poco más uptempo te gustará el Blue Bar. Cada tarde pinchan allí DJ Massivan e invitados como George Solar, hasta la puesta del sol (y a veces un poco más). Con tanta diversión, ¿te olvidaste de cenar? En el legendario bar Fonda Pepe, en San Ferran, sirven deliciosas tapas hasta tarde. Olivier Mourao, world-famous Brazilian artist, collector of antiques and true Ibiza icon, is a man of many creative talents. He makes paintings, drawings, sculptures and conceptual artworks, that get under the skin. By manipulating the viewer to create confusion, Olivier creates intense moments in which a fascination with the clarity of content and an uncompromising attitude towards ancient and contemporary art can be found. By emphasising aesthetics of natural lines, he seduces the viewer into a world of ongoing equilibrium and the interval that articulates the stream of daily events. His latest work ‘Burlesque’, inspired by the legendary Neo-burlesque performer Dita Von Teese, is on the one hand touchingly beautiful, on the other hand painfully attractive. It overlaps in meaning with caricature, cabaret, music, parody and travesty, and, in its theatrical sense, with body language and extravaganza, as presented during the Victorian era. This meticulously planned collection of paintings and collages, made from handmade colours and papers, resound and resonate with images culled from the fantastical realm of Olivier’s imagination. Some works appear as familiar reality, others as dreamlike images in which restraint and subtle sexuality meet; meanings shift, past and present fuse. Provocation and propitiation play a key role. But whatever ‘Burlesque’ really is, again and again it leaves us orphaned with a mix of conflicting and moving feelings or thoughts. Sometimes it radiates a cold and depressive violence. At times, disconcerting beauty, laughter and hedonism emerges. Notes are made and then crossed out again, ‘mistakes’ are repeated. The inherent visual seductiveness, along with the easyness, further complicates the reception of their manifold layers of meaning. The island of Ibiza is named after the god ‘Bes’, the first known name given by the Phoenicians was ‘Ibossim’, after the god Bes, then came the Carthaginians and called it ‘Ibes’ or ‘Ebusim’, both point as well to Bes as the originator. The Romans later called Ibiza town ‘Ebusus’. The Moors conquered the island afterwards and called it ‘Yabisa’ - the dry island. After the Moors the Spanish reconquered first Mallorca, then Ibiza, but lost interest in the following years which allowed the Pirates to settle down in Ibiza for about 300 years. They left a deep impression on the island, some still refer to the Pirates as the ones who first invented the ‘social security’ as they looked after the ones that got hurt in a battle, providing them and their families with food and shelter for the rest of their lives. The last part of the history of Ibiza with the pirates being the last Conquerors before it became part of the Spanish mainland was the incorporation with Formentera as ‘Les Pityuses’ - the pine tree islands with the other islands Mallorca and Menorca to form the ‘Balearic Islands’. But let’s come back to Bes, it is very strange that Ibiza is more often connected to Tanit, Punic goddess of fertility, then to Bes. The whole history of Bes shows a different kind of god, having a dwarf-like appearance with long arms, short feet, salient nose, in some statues even with a gigantic penis, always smiling, often with the tongue protruded. Nobody ever found a temple dedicated to him, not in Ibiza or anywhere else. Bes was the protector of women and their unborn children, helping them in birth bringing good luck to their houses. He is as well associated with music and celebration of life itself which brings us closer to where i want to go with this. In recent history it looks like the Hippies brought the party to Ibiza but this is not true, the tradition to celebrate goes way back in history, and with the evolution until today as the Mecca of electronic dance music during the summer months it seems like we are going full circle. So whenever you go out think twice, the party tradition is way older than you can even imagine, so let’s honor our ancestors and do the best we can to keep this spirit alive, for the sake of a good party. Celebrating does mean to have a good time, all together, no matter where you come from or where you belong to, all for one and one for all. It does not mean to do it only for commercial purposes, or only for an elitary group, as it looks like these days in some establishments. And it is certainly not for the sake of a few on cost of the masses.

La tradición de celebrar se remonta atrás en la historia y con la evolución hasta convertirse en la actualidad en la Meca de la música electrónica durante los meses de verano, parece que estamos volviendo al principio. Así que, siempre que salgas piénsalo dos veces. La tradición de la fiesta es mucho más antigua de lo que puedas imaginar, así que honremos a nuestros antepasados y hagamos cuanto podamos para mantener este espíritu vivo, por el bien de una buena fiesta. Celebrar significa pasarlo bien, todos juntos, sin importar de dónde vengas o a dónde pertenezcas, todos para uno y uno para todos. No significa hacerlo solamente por motivos comerciales o sólo para un grupo elitista, como parece suceder hoy en día en algunos establecimientos. Y, desde luego, no por el bien de unos pocos y a costa de las masas.

IN THE MIRROR OF THE NIGHT Frank Weyrauther is better known to publicists and musicians alike from London to Ibiza under the moniker ‘Phrank’ as the man with the camera documenting the international partylife non stop. He discovered his love for photography during his studies at the University of Niederrhein: ‘For my jobs at event agencies and music labels i needed pictures that were not available anywhere and at that time you had no access to data bases on the net as we know it today, without speaking of author’s rights.’ What was born out of necessity soon became his passion and ended in a full-time job. Especially his style-shaping themes of the club- and rave scene in Germany end of the 90’s made ‘Phrank’ a reference to all in a very short period. Magazines like ‘Prinz’ or important daily newspapers like ‘Bild’ requested his works. But the german rave scene was not enough for Phrank, especially after he noticed the international demand of his works. Ibiza, mother of all party islands, was the perfect setting for his excursions into nightlife. He soon became a reference for the international clientele, contract works for glossy magazines like ‘Playboy’ or ‘Glamour’ and agencies like ‘Scholz & Friends’ were the next logical step.But it was mainly the music- and club scene which took all his attention. Nowadays international music magazines like ‘Mixmag’ or ‘DJ30

Mag’ or super clubs like Space, Amnesia, Pacha or Privilege or Sven Väth’s ‘Cocoon’ are amongst his clients. It is the emotional moment of a motive that is always at the core of his work, that is one of if not the reason why insider consider him best Photographer of the island. Since 2007 Phrank is as well partner in crime and Creative director of ‘dub Ibiza Magazine’. After almost fourteen years in Ibiza’s nightlife Phrank did not only capture people from all over the globe but almost every big DJ and lots of Celebrities. He moves smoothly between onstage and offstage, between warm-ups and afterhours, wherever he can find an interesting motive. The time has come for a cultural enriched refurbishment of his works, that is why this exhibition came to life.

eventos y compañías discográficas necesitaba fotografías que no estaban disponibles en ninguna parte y en aquella época no tenías acceso a bases de datos en internet como tenemos hoy en día, por no hablar de los derechos de autor.’ Lo que había nacido a raíz de una necesidad, pronto se convirtió en su pasión y terminó siendo un trabajo a tiempo completo. En especial su temática formadora de estilo del club y la escena rave en Alemania a finales de los 90, hicieron de ‘Phrank’ un referente para todos en un cortísimo período de tiempo. Revistas como ‘Prinz’ o importantes periódicos como ‘Bild’ solicitaban sus trabajos. Pero la escena rave alemana no era suficiente para ‘Phrank’, sobre todo después de que se diera cuenta de la demanda internacional de sus trabajos. Ibiza, la madre de todas las islas de fiestas, era el escenario perfecto para sus excursiones/incursiones en la vida nocturna.

HAVING READ THE COMA CLUB BOOK AND FOLLOWING YOU BRINGS ME TO THE FIRST QUESTION - HOW DO YOU MANAGE TO STILL BE SO YOUNG AT HEART? Simply because I feel like a child; very keen and curious - like curious George - I love going out seeing the evolving sides of Dance and Club Music. I spend more than 25 hours every week just seeking for new music - I love to share music with other people, I am lucky to have been on national radio in Denmark for 4 decades and I am now playing my 4th year on Ibiza Sonica. It is the music that keeps me young. DO YOU REMEMBER THE FIRST RECORD YOU BOUGHT? Yes! Daniel Boone - Beautiful Sunday a 7” - I bought it for my first savings by cleaning up in my parents house. Today my collection is around 70.000 cds and vinyls combined. WHEN WAS ‘MUSIC FOR DREAMS’, YOUR LABEL, BORN - AND WHY? The idea was more or less born with the chill out compilation called “Music For Dreams” in 1994. A compilation that was so popular, it got bootlegged in Ibiza. In 1994 I worked as an A&R for Emi, there I released the Ambient Ibiza series through my label FLEX. The label sold over 4 1/2 millions records. After some stressful years - I decided to form Music For Dreams in 1999. I did a compilation called Music For Dreams vol. 1 - a book - and at the time we sold around 35.000. When you think of the format etc., it was an achievement. I started to sign acts and the idea was simple - release timeless music, never compromise on quality and be open minded to all forms of music, since then we have released over 50 albums and sold over 2 million units. YOU JUST TOLD US A TREMENDOUS NUMBER OF SALES YOU REACHED DURING ALL THOSE YEARS WITH THE LABEL, WHAT IS THE SECRET OF ITS SUCCESS? Quality, great melodies and timeless music. YOU STILL CELEBRATE COMA EVENTS, THE NEXT ONE IS IN NOVEMBER - WHAT CAN PEOPLE EXPECT? Madness on earth! The guests attending are the club. They love to dress up, as one of the biggest newspapers in Denmark once wrote: “In this crowed, Lady Gaga would blend in” We play all forms of danceable music at the parties, as long as it is quality. These days many clubs tends to go for a one-dimensional road in terms of music, and that can be a good thing but Coma Club (Copenhagen Offers More Action) is the opposite. I would say we are aiming to create a modern dress up version of the Paradise Garage heavily inspired by old New York club Danceteria and the openness of Ibiza throwing in our own commandments and concepts. CAN U TELL US A MEMORABLE ANECDOTE FROM THE COMA CLUB ? There are many – but I remember at one Coma party – this team of four guys emerged from the queue, all dressed head to toe in black, you couldn’t even see their eyes. They started rolling out a red carpet up to the front door. Then the four guys stood in the corner of the red carpet and started clapping in unison as their friend emerged to walk down the red carpet. He was only wearing black socks, black shoes and a pizza box around his stomach like a belt. Nothing else. When he got indoors – the 4 guys rolled out the carpet again and started shooting with soap bubble guns – suddenly a girl – complete stranger – got down on her knees and … well, the rest is up to your imagination. 7.2

BEING A PIONEER OF ELECTRONIC MUSIC, DO YOU THINK THAT THE WHOLE EDM HYPE DAMAGES OUR ELECTRONIC WORLD? I don’t think so - there is room for everybody. I think it gives exposure to the genre dance music in general and at the end of the day, you will have a pyramid where things from the top filters down and people may listen to EDM and discover new dance genres and fall in love with more underground names ... Some EDM names put on a fantastic almost theatrical preprogrammed show. Other djs are masters in reading the moment of the vibe of the dance floors in after-hours parties- two very different sides from the same pyramid. It is up to oneself to pick what experience you want to have. TALKING ABOUT IBIZA, WHAT WAS THE REASON FOR COMING DOWN HERE FOR A WHOLE SEASON? I went to Cafe Mambo end of last year to talk to Pete Tong and suddenly somebody tapped my shoulder saying: “It’s great you are here -Kenneth.” The guy mentioned several of my releases on my label Music For Dreams and then his brother came and I realized I was standing next to the Mambo brothers. We met the next day and that is where it all started, and it has to be said, I have never worked for anybody in my 34 years of Djing that knows so much and care so much about music. I am happy that they also have given me the opportunity to collaborate on the Music For Dreams event on Sunday which starts at 1 pm to sunset. It is a combination of live performances and DJs spinning eclectic sounds. HOW IS IT TO PLAY MAMBO ON THE FAMOUS STRIP IN SAN ANTONIO? Love it - the view is amazing - playing in the most famous sunset spot and having the freedom to play exactly what I want, what more can you ask for. Recently I discovered the track Gotham; Ten Walls and it has become one of my most played tracks at Café Mambo. To my delight I heard that the king of after parties Sven Vath opened his dj set at Sacca with this track. WHAT DOES A GOOD SET NEED? To entertain and educate at the same time - hopefully take the listener on a journey of the unexpected...Some Dj’s are masters at reading the dance floor and they can with their equipment remix a track on the spot, in way so it is taken into a new dimension. WHAT IS THE INSPIRATION FOR YOUR DJ’ING AND PRODUCTIONS ? I started as a dj in 1979 and was lucky to visit Ibiza for the first time in 1982. Soul, disco, jazz funk and the whole Punk/ New Romantic period was eye opening to me. I grew up in a small village were I listened to dance programs on Radio Luxemburg. I bought everything that Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards produced or played on. I was in love with edits and remixes from Francois Kevorkian, Tom Moulton, Shep Pettibone and Larry Levan. I feel blessed that I have seen the Dj scene evolve into what it is today, and I believe we have only seen the tip of the iceberg. When I create music I try to make something that is timeless melodic, and stands out. YOU RECENTLY WENT BACK TO YOUR TECHNO ROOTS WITH A NEW PRODUCTION, TELL US MORE ABOUT IT. In the late 80ties I played in a Techno band called Dr Baker - we did a track called KAOS, that gave me the opportunity to play in Amnesia, Space, Pacha and KU (Yesterdays Privelege) and to play 38

alongside Ibiza legends: Alfredo, Dj Pippi and Cesar De Melero. I also did another track around the same time called Sundown by The Overlords (another pan European club classic). Later I formed Krystal. We had a track out called “Burning Flame” that was played by many major dj’s. Simplemente porque me siento como un niño; con muchas ganas y curioso - como Jorge el curioso – Me encanta salir y ver los aspectos evolutivos de la Música Club y Dance. Me paso más de 25 horas cada semana simplemente buscando nueva música – me encanta compartir música con otra gente. Tengo la suerte de haber estado en la radio nacional en Dinamarca durante 4 décadas y ahora estoy en mi cuarto año tocando en Ibiza Sonica. Es la música la que me mantiene joven. ¿RECUERDAS EL PRIMER DISCO QUE TE COMPRASTE? ¡Sí! Daniel Boone – Beautiful Sunday, de 7 pulgadas – Me lo compré con mis primeros ahorros por limpiar la casa de mis padres. Hoy mi colección tiene alrededor de 70,000 cd’s y vinilos, en conjunto. ¿CUÁNDO NACIÓ ‘MUSIC FOR DREAMS’, TU SELLO? - ¿Y POR QUÉ? La idea era más o menos empezar en 1994 con un recopilatorio chill out llamado “Music For Dreams”. Un recopilatorio que se hizo tan popular que fue pirateado en Ibiza. En 1994 trabajé como A&R para Emi, allí lance las series Ambient Ibiza a través de mi sello FLEX. El sello vendió más de 4 millones y medio de discos. Después de algunos estresantes años, decidí montar Music For Dreams en 1999. Hice una recopilación llamada Music For Dreams vol. 1 – un libro – y en la época vendimos alrededor de 35.000 copias. Cuando piensas en el formato, etc. fue todo un logro. Empecé a firmar actuaciones y la idea era simple – lanzar música atemporal, sin comprometer nunca la calidad y mantener la mente abierta a todo tipo de música. Desde entonces hemos lanzado más de 50 álbums y hemos vendido más de 2 millones de copias. pie roots of the island, the great beaches, amazing food. In the old days it used to be Freddie Mercury and Grace Jones guesting the island - many years has passed by and the word VIP has lost its original identity - and I guess today we would call Grace Jones a celebrity. There are some Dj’s bringing in a lot of equipment, so the Dj box looks like a space station and sadly they watch the equipment instead of the crowd and often work the equipment so hard that I think they spoil the original intention of the track. No afterhours - I am missing a really underground after-hours place with a great sound system, taking the audience out on a limp. Last but not least there are too many people on the beaches selling things and the locals loose money - locals who have been fighting all their lives for their earnings. KENNETH BAGER IN 20 YEARS? TODAVÍA CELEBRAS COMA EVENTS, EL PRÓXIMO ES EN NOVIEMBRE ¿QUÉ PUEDE ESPERAR LA GENTE? ¡La locura en la tierra! Los asistentes invitados son el club. Les encanta arreglarse, como uno de los mayores periódicos de Dinamarca escribió en una ocasión: “En este público, Lady Gaga se integraría” Tocamos todo tipo de música bailable en las fiestas, siempre y cuando haya calidad. Hoy en día muchos clubs, en términos de música, tienden a ir por un camino unidimensional y, puede que sea algo bueno, pero Coma Club (Copenhagen Offers More Action) es lo contrario. Yo diría que aspiramos a crear una versión moderna y emperifollada del Paradise Garage, con fuerte inspiración del viejo club Dancetería de la ciudad de Nueva York y de la amplitud de Ibiza, añadiendo nuestros propios mandamientos y conceptos. 7.2

¿PUEDES CONTARNOS ALGUNA ANÉCDOTA MEMORABLE DEL COMA CLUB? Hay muchas – pero me acuerdo de una en una fiesta del Coma – un grupo de cuatro tíos surgió de la cola, vestidos de la cabeza a los pies de negro, ni siquiera podías verles los ojos. Empezaron estirando una alfombra roja hasta llegar a la puerta principal. Entonces, los cuatro tíos se pusieron en las esquinas de la alfombra y empezaron a aplaudir al unísono cuando su amigo apareció caminando por la alfombra roja. Éste llevaba sólo calcetines negros, zapatos negros y una caja de pizza alrededor del estómago, a modo de cinturón. Nada más. Cuando entró dentro – los cuatro tíos enrollaron la alfombra otra vez y empezaron a disparar con pistolas de pompas de jabón –de repente, una chica –una completa extraña – se puso de rodillas y empezó a… bueno, el resto lo dejamos a tu imaginación. SIENDO UN PIONERO DE LA MÚSICA ELECTRÓNICA, ¿CREES QUE TODA ESA MODA EDM PERJUDICA NUESTRO MUNDO ELECTRÓNICO? No lo creo – hay sitio para todos. Yo creo que le da publicidad al género de la música dance en general y, a fin de cuentas, tienes una pirámide en la que cosas de la cima de la pirámide se filtran hacia abajo y alguna gente puede que escuche EDM y descubra nuevos géneros dance y se enamore de más nombres underground… Algunos nombres EDM representan un fantástico y casi teatral espectáculo preprogramado. Otros DJ’s son expertos en leer el momento del ambiente de las pistas de baile en las fiestas after hours – dos lados muy diferentes de la misma pirámide. Depende de cada uno escoger qué experiencia quiere tener. HABLANDO DE IBIZA, ¿CUÁL ES LA RAZÓN PARA VENIRTE AQUÍ PARA TODA LA TEMPORADA? Vine al Café Mambo al final del año pasado para hablar con Pete Tong y, de repente, alguien me dio unas palmaditas en el hombro diciendo: ”Es fantástico que estés aquí, Kenneth.” El tipo mencionó varios de mis lanzamientos con mi sello Music For Dreams y entonces vino su hermano y me di cuenta de que estaba al lado de los hermanos Mambo. Nos reunimos al día siguiente y fue ahí donde empezó todo. Y, debe decirse que en mis 34 años de DJ nunca he trabajado con nadie que sepa tanto y que se preocupe tanto por la música. Estoy contento de que además me hayan dado la oportunidad de colaborar en el evento Music For Dreams los domingos, el cual empieza a la 1del mediodía y va hasta la puesta del sol. Es una combinación de actuaciones en directo y DJ’s pinchando estilos eclécticos. ¿CÓMO ES TOCAR MAMBO EN LA FAMOSA LÍNEA EN SAN ANTONIO? Me encanta – la vista es increíble – tocar en el lugar con la puesta de sol más famosa y tener la libertad de tocar exactamente lo que yo quiera, ¿qué más se puede pedir? Hace poco descubrí la pieza Gotham; Ten Walls y se ha convertido en una de mis pistas más tocadas en el Café Mambo. Para mi deleite he descubierto que el rey de las after parties, Sven Väth abrió su sesión en Sacca con esta pista. ¿QUÉ NECESITA UN BUEN SET? Entretener y educar al mismo tiempo – con suerte, llevar al oyente en un viaje a lo inesperado… Algunos DJ’s son expertos en leer la pista de baile y, con su equipo, pueden hacer un remix de una canción en el mismo momento, llevándola a una nueva dimensión. 40

¿CUÁL ES TU INSPIRACIÓN PARA PINCHAR Y PARA TUS PRODUCCIONES? Empecé como DJ en 1979 y tuve la suerte de visitar Ibiza por primera vez en 1982. Soul, disco, jazz, funk y toda la época Punk/Neo Romántica fue muy reveladora para mí. Yo crecí en un pequeño pueblo donde escuchaba programas de radio dance en Radio Luxemburgo. Me compraba todo lo que producían o tocaban Nile Rodgers o Bernard Edwards. Me encantaban los edits y remixes de Francois Kevorkian, Tom Moulton, Shep Pettibone y Larry Levan. Me siento afortunado por haber visto evolucionar la escena DJ hasta convertirse en lo que es hoy en día y creo que sólo hemos visto la punta del iceberg. Cuando creo música, intento hacer algo que sea melodiosamente atemporal y que destaque. RECIENTEMENTE HAS VUELTO A TUS RAÍCES TECHNO CON TU NUEVA PRODUCCIÓN, HÁBLANOS UN POCO MÁS ACERCA DE ESTO. A finales de los 80 tocaba en una banda llamada Dr Baker. Hicimos una pieza llamada KAOS, que me dio la oportunidad de tocar en Amnesia, Space, Pacha y KU (el antiguo Privilege) y de tocar junto a leyendas de Ibiza: Alfredo, Dj Pippi y Cesar De Melero. En la misma época, también hice otra pieza llamada Sundown, con The Overlords (otro clásico paneuropeo de los clubs). Más tarde creé Krystal. Lanzamos una pista llamada “Burning Flame” que tocaron la mayoría de los principales DJ’s. Ahora estoy preparado para lanzar material nuevo con Krystal, el primer single es sonoramente fresco, como un nuevo ritmo Feel Love con una voz similar a Leonard Cohen y con una pizca de Kolsch. De hecho, es la Voz de la Antigua representación alemana ABFAHRT. Se llama “Get Your Mid Together” – algunos DJ’s a lo largo de toda la isla ya lo están pinchando. ¿CÓMO VES IBIZA ESTE AÑO? ¿CONOCES LA ISLA DESDE HACE MUCHOS AÑOS? Muy simple – demasiadas fiestas - demasiadas cosas sucediendo – menos exclusividad – resultado final: algunos clubs con grandes nombres están vacíos y eso me entristece. ¿LO MEJOR Y LO PEOR DE LA ISLA? Lo mejor: El humor de los locales, su tolerancia humana, las raíces hippies de la isla, las fabulosas playas, la increíble comida. Ibiza se ha convertido en uno de los mayores festivales dance del mundo cada verano y nunca había visto a tanta gente en la isla con tan poca ropa. Lo peor: ¿Qué es un VIP hoy en día? En los viejos tiempos solía ser Freddie Mercury y Grace Jones visitando la isla. Han pasado muchos años y la palabra VIP ha perdido su identidad original – y supongo que hoy en día a Grace Jones le llamaríamos una celebridad. Hay algunos DJ’s que traen un montón de equipo, con lo que la cabina del DJ parece una estación espacial y, desafortunadamente, miran más al equipo que al público. Y, a menudo, aporrean con tantas ganas el equipo que yo creo que echan a perder la intención original de la canción. Nada de afterhours – echo de menos un auténtico lugar underground de afterhours, que lleve a la audiencia a la extenuación. Por último, pero no por ello menos importante, hay demasiadas personas en la playa vendiendo cosas y los locales pierden dinero – locales que llevan luchando por sus ganancias toda su vida. ¿KENNETH BAGER DENTRO DE 20 AÑOS? STEPHAN WEIDNER AND PHILIP ESCHENBACH JOIN ME IN THE SUMMER’S HEAT AND WE TALK ABOUT THEIR LATEST PROJECT, THE NEW, REFURBISHED GRIAL. WHAT IS THE IDEA BEHIND THE NEW GRIAL? S: The idea is to create a musical playground where cross-over is happening, we always wanted to have a place where we can play our own music, totally independent, underground, wwant people to come and play their music. P: We wanted to create a club where we always wanted to go to ourselves. SO THERE IS NO ETIQUETTE TO IT? S: It is definitely not commercially focused, no dress code and as Philip said, no VIP tables or anything like it. WHAT WAS FIRST, THE IDEA OR THE OCCASION? S: I live here since 13 years and always carried this idea with me, 42

to have this kind of ‘Titty Ttwister’ music place, a bit crazy, a bit anarchic, rebellious. The offer to take over the Grial came totally by surprise but this was always a place i liked a lot to go to, so we said let’s go for it. P: We really like the place, i came here many times before as well and it feels just right. and when Stefan contacted me and told me about it i was really happy and keen to go for it. WHO ARE THE PEOPLE BEHIND THE GRIAL? S: Philip and myself are the owners, we both are rock musicians, we love to listen to good music with an attitude and this is the ideal basis for a project like this. Then there is Patrik Dechent who is running the place, he is known as the ex Monza-maker and ex co-owner of Sunset Café. Another member is Pino Caruso who

P: But still in a very underground way, all the styles should come from the heart, not from a commercial attitude. SO NO BIG NAME DROPPING? S: Maybe from time to time but always with the aim to let them go crazy, do whatever they want to do or always wanted to but couldn’t on their usual gigs. P: We got Michi Beck coming soon, he is one of the ‘Fantastische Vier’, he will come and do his thing, and for free because he wants to support us. YOU ALSO TOOK OVER THE SECOND FLOOR WHICH USED TO BE RADIO EXIT - WHAT ARE THE PLANS FOR THAT? S: Right now we are totally open for everything, we could think of a Tattoo studio, a concierge service, a space for jewelry, artist exhibitions, a social club room, pool billard, table soccer and so on. WHAT MEANS THE WORD VIP TO YOU? S: Very Important Person. It is not about money, it is about your personality, you shine - or not, you smile - or not. People take themselves too serious anyway, especially the ones who have the money and the celebrities. P: Here everybody is Very Important. The word VIP does not exist in our vocabulary. YOU WILL STAY OPEN FOR WINTER? S: Definitely. We will close after December for some time to refurbish some things again and redefine others, adding and changing some minor details without changing the whole spirit of the place. P: We want to even amplify the original spirit of the Grial. Perfect statement and the right moment to end this very interesting interview. S: We want to bring more Rock n’ Roll to this island, that’s for sure, but we totally accept and love that Ibiza has this other side which is electronic music, we love it too! We just miss the variation so we decided to do it ourselves, create an alternative place with different styles. We got nights of Rock, Hip Hop, Balearic, an open stage, Deep House and we will see how it all develops, it will become its own dynamic.

S: La idea es crear una zona musical donde suceda una mezcla de estilos. Siempre hemos querido tener un lugar donde podamos tocar nuestra propia música, totalmente independiente, underground, muy rock, uniendo a la gente y la música. Queremos que la gente venga y toque su música. P: Queríamos crear un club donde nosotros mismos siempre quisiéramos ir. 7.2

ASÍ QUE, ¿NO EXISTE NINGUNA ETIQUETA PARA ÉL? S: Desde luego no tiene un enfoque comercial, no hay reglas de vestimenta y, como dijo Philip, no hay mesas VIP ni nada por el estilo. ¿QUÉ SURGIÓ PRIMERO, LA IDEA O LA OCASIÓN? S: Yo he vivido aquí desde los 13 años y siempre he llevado esta idea conmigo, tener este especie de ‘Titty Twister’ bar, un poco loco, un poco anárquico, rebelde. Así que me dije, esperemos el momento y el lugar apropiados. La oferta de hacernos cargo del Grial llegó totalmente de sorpresa pero el Grial siempre ha sido un lugar al que me encantaba ir, así que dijimos vamos a por ello. P: Nos encanta el lugar, yo también venía aquí muchas veces antes y simplemente me sentía a gusto. Y, cuando Stefan contactó conmigo y me habló acerca de ello, yo estaba realmente contento y con ganas de intentarlo. ¿QUIÉNES SON LAS PERSONAS POR DETRÁS DEL GRIAL? S: Philip y yo somos los propietarios, los dos somos músicos de rock. Yo lo hago desde hace 30 años y también llevo un sello discográfico y una empresa de distribución y merchandise, pero ante todo soy músico. El resto surgió por necesidad. Quería tomar mis propias decisiones y no tener que escuchar a otros acerca de qué hacer. Al final, era un 90% negocio y un 10% música, así que este lugar es algo así como nuestro patio de juegos. Nos encanta escuchar buena música con actitud y esta es la base ideal para un proyecto como este. Después está Patrik Dechent, que lleva el local. Se le conoce como el ex-creador de Monza y el ex-copropietario del Sunset Café. Otro miembro es Pino Caruso, que se encarga de las noches Hip Hop. Después están Arian 911 y Benny Merkelbach de FincaAM Records, quienes se encargarán de las noches Balearic Beats. Somos un grupo de amigos que comparten diversión y música, y eso nos hace fuertes. ¿EL ENFOQUE MUSICAL? ¿TAMBIÉN HABRÁ ‘GERMAN SCHLAGER’? P: ¡Queremos siete noches de Rock n’ Roll! (Carcajadas…) S: Queremos traer más Rock n’ Roll a esta isla, eso desde luego. Pero aceptamos totalmente y nos encanta que Ibiza tenga ese otro lado, que es la música electrónica. ¡También nos encanta! Simplemente echamos de menos la variedad… Si queremos salir y no escuchar house o techno, es difícil encontrar dónde. Por eso decidimos hacerlo nosotros mismos, crear un lugar alternativo con diferentes estilos. Tenemos noches de Rock, Hip Hop, Balear, un escenario abierto, Deep House y ya veremos cómo se desarrolla todo, se convertirá en su propia dinámica. P: Pero aún así, de una manera muy underground. Todos los estilos deberían venir del corazón, no de una actitud comercial. ASÍ QUE, ¿NO HABRÁ GRANDES NOMBRES? S: Quizás de vez en cuando, pero siempre con el objetivo de permitir que se vuelvan locos, que hagan lo que quieran hacer o lo que siempre han querido hacer pero no han podido en sus actuaciones usuales. P: Pronto tendremos a Michi Beck, uno de los ‘Fantastische Vier’. Vendrá y hará lo suyo, y gratis, porque quiere apoyarnos. TAMBIÉN OS HABÉIS HECHO CARGO DEL SEGUNDO PISO, QUE SOLÍA SER RADIO EXIT - ¿CUÁLES SON LOS PLANES PARA ESTO? 44

S: En el momento estamos totalmente abiertos a todo, podemos pensar en un estudio de tatuaje, un servicio de conserjería, un espacio para joyería, un club social, billar, futbolín, etcétera. ¿QUÉ SIGNIFICA LA PALABRA VIP PARA VOSOTROS? S: Personaje Muy Importante. No se trata de dinero, se trata de tu personalidad, brillas – o no, sonríes – o no. De todas maneras, la gente se toma a sí misma demasiado en serio, sobre todo las celebridades y los que tienen dinero. P: Aquí todo el mundo es Muy Importante. La palabra VIP no existe en nuestro vocabulario. ¿PERMANECERÉIS ABIERTOS DURANTE EL INVIERNO? S: Sin duda. Cerraremos después de diciembre, durante algún tiempo y veremos qué planes tenemos por entonces. Como hemos dicho, crecerá de forma orgánica. Vamos a renovar de nuevo algunas cosas y redefinir otras, añadiendo y cambiando algunos pequeños detalles sin cambiar todo el espíritu del lugar. P: Queremos amplificar el espíritu original del Grial. UN RESUMEN PERFECTO Y EL MOMENTO ADECUADO PARA TERMINAR ESTA TAN INTERESANTE ENTREVISTA. DUB PRESENTS LOCAL HEROES AT GRIAL EVERY SUNDAY 10PM - 5AM. On Sunday, 21st of July, we presented our new party series in the fresh, reloaded Grial in Ibiza town, on the way to Pacha on the left side. The concept of the party is pretty simple, as the name says it is all about local heroes, the DJs that formerly defined a club because they were the ones who took care of the night, playing warm-ups, caring for the guest DJs and being there in case anything goes wrong. Sometimes they even closed a night as they knew about the identity of their club, what people want to hear and how they party. I remember Alfredo’s unique sound when he played the very last tune in Amnesia back in the days, everybody knew this special track and started crying because we realized all of a sudden that the party was over... All this concept got almost lost, nowadays there is no more resident, the promoters bring their own DJs and take over the complete night - nothing wrong with that, do not get me wrong, but in my humble opinion the resident DJ was and still is a very important factor in a club’s identity. There are so many good DJ(ane) s her on Ibiza, we will showcase the best of them and sometimes invite local heroes from other cities/countries. It is all about music, deep sexy tunes in a refurbished club as is the new Grial, for years one of the best small locations Ibiza has to offer, it’s a bout time to give it another try. In fact, the Grial was the very first post office in Ibiza so it has been a meeting point since its very first days, and this is what is the aim behind this reload. Our very own Hofer66 will host the night, playing alongside one guest resident for the full distance of 7 hours from 10pm to 5am.

El domingo 21 de Julio hemos presentado nuestra nueva serie de fiestas en el nuevo, renovado Grial en la ciudad de Ibiza, de camino a Pachá, a la izquierda. El concepto de la fiesta es bastante simple, como el nombre indica se trata de los héroes locales, los DJs que anteriormente definieron a un club, porque eran los que se encargaban de calentar la noche, cuidando de los DJs invitados y estando allí en caso de que algo saliera mal. A veces incluso cerraban la noche, ya que ellos conocían la identidad de su club, lo que la gente quiere escuchar y cómo se divierten. Recuerdo el sonido único de Alfredo, en los viejos tiempos, cuando tocaba la última canción en Amnesia. Todo el mundo conocía ese track especial y empezábamos a llorar, porque de repente nos dábamos cuenta de que la fiesta había terminado… Todo este concepto prácticamente se ha perdido. Hoy en día no hay más residentes, los promotores traen a sus propios DJs que se encargan de toda la noche – lo que no tiene nada malo, no me entendáis mal, pero en mi humilde opinión el DJ residente todavía es un factor muy importante en la identidad de un club. Hay tantos buenos DJs aquí en Ibiza que presentaremos a los mejores y a veces invitaremos a héroes locales de otras ciudades o países. Se trata de la música, melodías sexy y profundas en un renovado club como es el nuevo Grial, durante años uno de los mejores lugares pequeños que Ibiza podía ofrecer. Ya es hora de darle una nueva oportunidad. De hecho, el Grial fue la primera oficina de correos de Ibiza, así que ha sido un punto de encuentro desde el primer día y éste es justo el objetivo por detrás de esta renovación. Nuestro mismísimo Hofer66 comandará la noche, tocando junto a un residente invitado durante 7 horas completas, desde las 10 de la noche hasta las 5 de la madrugada.

Then I went to the United States to get to know closely this new musical Universe. In the States I had contact with producers, DJs and clubs of house, techno, rock and funk. I returned to Brazil as a professional DJ, and turned out as a kind of cultural agitator in the midwest of Brazil: precursor of electronic beats, party producer and radio show host.

WHAT MAKES A GOOD DJ? It’s a junction of technical research, dance floor feeling and knowing how to be charismatic. Truly doing it with passion and love, to put energy above all. DO YOU PRODUCE AS WELL? I have been producing for 4 years, my earlier where not released but where used for some videos and projects for d-edge. I stopped for a while for not having a proper studio. I got studio at home in the last year. In 2007 I did a mix compilation for Gigolo Records. So far my releases are: ‘Soul Machine’ on d-edge records, ‘True Light’ on light my fire and ‘21’ on warung records. I just released ‘Folker’ on d-edge records and soon I will be releasing the ‘Homeboy EP’ with Pillow Talk on d-edge, and ‘My Woman’ on Radiola records. The Album ‘Black Belt’ is coming out on d-edge records, with 17 tracks with inspired by the Orient. STARTING A CLUB IN CAMPO GRANDE MUST HAVE BEEN DIFFICULT NO? THERE WAS NOTHING BEFORE, SO HOW COULD YOU KNOW IT WILL WORK? From 1996 to 2000 I used to throw parties, in small scales to big ones with 10,000 people, so I was already getting the city ready for D-Edge, which was opened in 2000. FROM THERE D-EDGE WENT ON TO SÃO PAULO, HOW DID THAT COME? I was already coming to São Paulo to DJ and an opportunity to start the club popped up. I’m natural from São Paulo, and already knew the DJs and Promoters! D-edge runs in São Paulo for 10 years and the brand for 13 years. D-EDGE COMES FROM PUSHING BOUNDARIES I GUESS, IS THIS YOUR MOTTO IN LIFE IN GENERAL TOO? Of course, and I always seek to overcome and improve in all directions, at work, musically and my personal life. Always improving and making the best of it all. WHAT SETS D-EDGE APART FROM OTHER CLUBS? D-Edge was one of the first clubs in the world to use led technology. The main points are the innovative design and architecture. It’s a club that inspired many and is also taken as a model around the world. On top of it all, we always focus on bringing the new and classic in our requirement of good music. NOW YOU GOT PLANS TO EXPAND TO RIO, HOW IS THIS GOING? We are in full steam with our project in Rio de Janeiro, and we made first steps for an enterprise in Berlin. CAN YOU COMPARE RIO AND SÃO PAULO MUSICWISE? São Paulo is more industrial, with a metropolis characteristic. Rio despite being a populous city, it’s a beach town, with a lot of black music and hip hop influence, and São Paulo is more techno. WHY IS THERE SO FEW BRAZILIAN PRODUCERS OR DJS WITH INTERNATIONAL RECOGNITION? We had difficulties because of our geographic location, getting the right equipment, material and info. Nowadays we are living another moment in which everything is changing. WHAT IS YOUR CONNECTION WITH WARUNG, ANOTHER INSTITUTION IN THE BRAZILIAN ELECTRONIC WORLD? I’m a partner of Warung and also a resident DJ.

DO YOU THINK THE EDM HYPE DAMAGES THE ‘HONEST’ ELECTRONIC MUSIC SCENE? IS THIS WHY MAYBE BRAZIL IS THE BIG HOPE BECAUSE THE SCENE IS QUITE FRESH OVER THERE? It damages in a sense that all the music that lacks quality gives a bad vision to the people that does not have much knowledge of good music. Compared with Europe and the United States yes, it is a new scene. Brazil is a growing country with many creative and happy people. RENATO RATIER IN 20 YEARS? My life in the short, medium and long term: Short: Opening a Restaurant / Studio in São Paulo called Bossa, opening D-Edge Rio de Janiero by end of the year, and a new project in Berlin by disclosing and encouraging good music, helping new producers to have highlighted opportunities. São Paulo es más industrial, con las características de una metrópolis. Tenemos dificultades por nuestra situación geográfica, para conseguir el equipo adecuado, el material y la información. Hoy en día, vivimos un momento diferente en el que todo está cambiando. saber cómo ser carismático. ¿CREES QUE LA MODA EDM PERJUDICA LA ESCENA MUSICAL ELECTRÓNICA ‘HONESTA’? ¿ES POR ESTO QUE QUIZÁS BRASIL ES LA GRAN ESPERANZA, PORQUE LA ESCENA ES BASTANTE FRESCA POR ALLÍ? Lo perjudica en el sentido de que toda la música que carece de calidad le da una mala imagen a la gente que no conoce mucho de buena música. Comparado con Europa y con los Estados Unidos, sí, es una nueva escena. Brasil es un país en crecimiento, con mucha gente alegre y creativa.

DESDE ALLÍ, D-EDGE FUE A SÃO PAULO, ¿CÓMO SUCEDIÓ ESO? Ya estaba yendo a São Paulo para pinchar y surgió una oportunidad de abrir el club. Yo soy originalmente de São Paulo y ¡ya conocía a los DJs y promotores! D-Edge funciona en São Paulo desde hace 10 años y la marca durante 13 años.

¿RENATO RATIER DENTRO DE 20 AÑOS? Mi vida a corto, medio y largo plazo: Corto: Abrir un Restaurante/Estudio en São Paulo llamado Bossa, abrir D-Edge en Rio de Janeiro para finales de año y un nuevo proyecto en Berlín, al divulgar y fomentar la buena música, ayudando a nuevos productores a conseguir oportunidades destacadas. Uniendo las artes al crear una unión entre artes gráficas, moda y música. Medio: Cosechar los frutos de mis proyectos y también volver a trabajar en la moda y en hostelería y trabajar además con muchos más proyectos. Derrick- To me the light and consciousness are a bit different to many. The light is that which some would call God but I can’t stand the idea of some old guy with a white beard sitting on a golden throne sending people to a fire - torturing inferno of infinity for not sitting by his side playing bingo with earth’s beings giving you one chance and only one. Once you serve the light you always serve the light and live to gain consciousness and spiritual evolution until the last phase... however many lives it takes to return as a master - one collecting the experience and knowledge for the whole of the Law of One. The Creator is the light and dark and everything that exists is the light whether it be evil or not, it is a part of the whole and part of us and can’t be understood by separating yourself. We are acting on behalf of the divine plan whether we are aware of it or not. either by example or discovering self-awareness. Music is the closest art that reflects our evolution as we sing and create. It’s a direct reflection of our experiences. The sets we used to play a year ago we would never do again because we have changed. TELL ME A BIT ABOUT WHAT YOU BELIEVE - A NUTSHELL VERSION - IF POSSIBLE. YOUR ELEVATOR PITCH... Zoe- I believe in love. I believe that if you believe in any ONE idea or story that you are limited to that. I believe in curiosity and letting your heart and intuition lead the mind so that you can believe what comes natural and moves you. DEEP IN THE BOWEL OF ARTISTRY AND PRODUCTION ARE THERE CIRCLES OF CONNECTED INDIVIDUALS THAT GATHER TO COMMUNICATE LOVE THROUGH MUSIC? IF SO DOES THIS JOYOUS SOUND EVER MAKE IT TO THE PUBLIC ARENA? Derrick- Everyone that comes to our parties and shows is on the tip of ascending from the old stagnant beliefs of yester year. The ones who enjoy us the most have open hearts and are evolving extremely fast. Shinning though dark times and breaking through the control seekers. They are on the path of true freedom and most don’t even know it. They just feel great and love more and share more and care more. With our production I imprint the music with subliminal messages of love and light and self-awareness. I create a vibration that fills the soul rather then leaving it bored and sucked dry of spiritual substance. Our bodies need constantly filled with positivity as we are crystalline structures transmitting our own personal frequency. The higher self is hovering above waiting for our ability to reside 100% in our bodies…Why do you think only 6-10% of our brain is used and the rest lies dormant. It is our design to fulfil our greater purpose and reach for the heavens to remember who we are and what knowledge lies in that present we do not understand of ourselves. If we were born with all that knowledge in this world we would explode. WHAT STEPS CAN WE ALL AS INDIVIDUALS, AS MUSIC LOVERS AND LIGHT SEEKERS TAKE TO MAKE POSITIVE CHANGE IN THIS WORLD AND SCENE? Derrick- Well I think we need to stick up for ourselves and our beliefs. People are afraid to show what makes them unique out of fear of prosecution and judgement. To be failed in society for doing so. We need to stop the governments around the globe for they are corrupt and pose a threat to our well being. Money is a terrible fuck you to our spiritual enlightenment, supports separation of higher self, latches ego to our forward motion and causes disconnection to the earth, each other and all the animals. If it sustains as our main focus we will destroy everything on this planet without batting an eye. Truth. THERE IS A LOT OF EGO IN OUR MUSIC SCENE, ARTISTS AND FANS ALIKE- WHAT’S IT LIKE BEING SO DEEPLY IMMERSED IN A SCENE THAT SO OFTEN CONTRASTS CONSCIOUSNESS? HOW DO YOU REMAIN POSITIVE AND LIGHT IN THE FACE OF ALL THIS? Zoe- I don’t see “ego” as being a contrast. It’s part of consciousness as well. It’s how you use it that counts. So, don’t be an asshole. I do my best not to be an asshole but my trying isn’t fool-proof. I try to be in a glass half full mind set. 7.2

Derrick- people who think they are the shit act like shit. Nobody is a rock star in this. Your cheap hotel living, shitty food, and over paid Dj sets don’t qualify you for being shitty to other people. To be a Dj or musician is to be a shaman. One who beats on the drums and tells the stories that move your inner child to its magical abilities. Those who don’t understand this have boring sets in my opinion. They leave you left wanting. YOU WORK AND PLAY TOGETHER AS A COUPLE, IS IT DIFFICULT TO MAINTAIN BALANCE IN A RELATIONSHIP WHEN YOU SPEND SO MUCH TIME TOGETHER…. HOW DO MAINTAIN AN INSPIRED RELATIONSHIP? Zoe- “difficult” isn’t the word. I chose to look at it as “effort” or just “work”. It takes patience, understanding, compromise and selflessness to achieve balance in our relationship. As long as I put the music and the value of our relationship before everything else then things work. And sleep. We have to sleep so that we don’t kill each other. Sleep deprivation is a shitty drug. Zoe- this will be my first time in Ibiza and Derrick’s first time playing there. He met the Audiofly guys before I did. All I can tell you is I LOVE playing their parties! La luz es eso que algunos llamarían Dios, pero yo no puedo soportar la idea de un viejo con barba blanca sentado en un trono dorado y enviando a la gente al fuego eterno del infierno por no sentarse a su lado, jugando al bingo con los seres de la tierra, dándote una oportunidad y sólo una. Una vez que sirves a la luz, siempre servirás a la luz y vives para ganar consciencia y evolución espiritual hasta la última fase… Sin embargo, lleva muchas vidas regresar como maestro – uno que recoge la experiencia y el conocimiento de la totalidad de la Ley de Uno. El Creador es la luz y la oscuridad y todo lo que existe es la luz, tanto si es mala o como si no. Es parte del todo y parte de nosotros y no puede entenderse al separarlo de uno mismo. Nosotros actuamos en representación del plan divino, tanto si somos conscientes de ello, como si no.

Derrick – Desde los 17, llevo luchando pacíficamente con la idea de que lo que sé está sucediendo con nuestra evolución. Esperando pacientemente el día en el que la gente entenderá de lo que hablo. Mis padres nunca lo entenderán. Convencer a gente testaruda de mente cerrada es imposible. Las personas tienen que querer cambiar, ya sea con un ejemplo o descubriendo la consciencia de sí mismos. La música es el arte más íntimo, que refleja nuestra evolución a medida que cantamos y creamos. Es un reflejo directo de nuestras experiencias. Las sesiones que solíamos tocar hace un año, nunca las usaremos de nuevo, porque hemos cambiado. CONTADME UN POCO SOBRE LO QUE CREÉIS – UNA VERSIÓN RESUMIDA – SI ES POSIBLE. VUESTRA DESCRIPCIÓN RÁPIDA… Zoe- Yo creo en el amor. Yo creo que si crees en UNA idea o historia cualquiera, te estás limitando a eso. Derrick- Todo el mundo que viene a nuestras fiestas y espectáculos está en el final del ascenso de las viejas y estancadas creencias del pasado. Aquellos que disfrutan más con nosotros son de corazón abierto y están evolucionando extremadamente rápido. Brillando en medio de tiempos oscuros y abriéndose camino entre los que persiguen el control. Se encuentran en el camino de la verdadera libertad y la mayoría ni siquiera lo saben. Simplemente se sienten genial y aman más y comparten más y se preocupan más. Con nuestra producción, marco nuestra música con mensajes subliminales de amor y luz y consciencia de uno mismo. Derrick- Bueno, yo pienso que necesitamos dar la cara por nosotros mismos y por nuestras creencias. La gente tiene miedo de mostrar lo que los hace únicos por temor a ser juzgados y per62

seguidos, a fracasar en la sociedad por hacer esto. Necesitamos detener a los gobiernos de todo el planeta porque son corruptos y plantean una amenaza a nuestro bienestar. El dinero es un terrible “jódete” a nuestra iluminación espiritual, respalda la separación del ser superior, cierra con llave el ego a nuestro avance hacia adelante y causa desconexión con la tierra, unos con otros y con todos los animales. Si se mantiene como nuestro foco principal, vamos a destruir todo en este planeta sin siquiera pestañear. Verdad. EXISTE MUCHO EGO EN NUESTRA ESCENA MUSICAL, EN ARTISTAS Y FANS POR IGUAL - ¿CÓMO ES ESTAR TAN PROFUNDAMENTE INMERSO EN UNA ESCENA QUE TAN A MENUDO CHOCA CON LA CONSCIENCIA? ¿CÓMO PERMANECÉIS POSITIVOS E ILUMINADOS ENCARADO TODO ESTO? Zoe- Yo no veo el “ego” como algo que choque. También es parte de la consciencia. Lo que importa es cómo lo usas. Así que no seas gilipollas. Yo hago todo lo que puedo por no ser gilipollas, pero mis intentos no son infalibles. Intento estar en un estado mental de “vaso medio lleno”. Derrick- La gente que cree que es la hostia actúa como una mierda. Esa vida barata de hotel en hotel, tu comida de mierda y tus excesivos honorarios de DJ no te dan derecho a tratar a los demás como una mierda. Ser un DJ o un músico es ser un chamán. Alguien que toca los tambores y cuenta historias que conmueven al niño que llevas dentro con sus habilidades mágicas. Aquellos que no entienden esto, en mi opinión, tienen sesiones aburridas. Te dejan queriendo más. TRABAJÁIS Y TOCÁIS JUNTOS COMO PAREJA, ¿ES DIFÍCIL MANTENER EL EQUILIBRIO EN UNA RELACIÓN CUANDO SE PASA TANTO TIEMPO JUNTOS?… ¿CÓMO MANTENÉIS UNA RELACIÓN INSPIRADA? Zoe- “difícil” no es la palabra. Yo escojo verlo como un “esfuerzo” o simplemente “trabajo”. Hace falta paciencia, comprensión, compromiso y altruismo para alcanzar el equilibrio en nuestra relación. Siempre y cuando ponga la música y el valor de nuestra relación por encima de todo lo demás, entonces las cosas funcionan. Y dormir. Necesitamos dormir, para no matarnos el uno al otro. La privación del sueño es una droga de mierda. HELLO HOLGER, IT IS WITH GREAT PLEASURE HAVING ANOTHER ARTIST OF ONE OF OUR ALL-TIME FAVOURITE LABELS IN OUR MAGAZINE - AND WHO BETTER AFTER STALLWART SOLOMUN THAN YOU! AS I READ YOU GOT PRETTY LATE INTO PRODUCTION, HOW DID YOU BECOME A DJ IN THE FIRST PLACE? I started going on techno parties in the late 90´s. On a weekly base we were visiting all sorts of parties in the north of germany with a group of 6 -8 people. At one point we also started to buy those records which at this time besides on some mixtapes on audio cassette were not available like nowadays all over the net. So it was just a matter of time we actually organized two old record players (one even without pitch) from our parents with a shitty mixer and started to record our own tapes. At one point this wasn´t enough and we actually started to organize small parties ourselves and i was the first to DJ on those parties. I was addicted to buying records very fast and never actually had any money because i spent it all on records. I was still working in different jobs at that time. So at one point one of my ex girlfriends who was about 7 years older then me kind of convinced me that i am good at this and to start doing music as my main job. Once this thought was manifested there was no way back. WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST RECORD YOU BOUGHT? Michael Jackson - Bad i think, Technowise some early stuff from Der Dritte Raum. WHAT MAKES A GOOD DJ SET? A good DJ set in my thinking is entertaining in the first but also educating. For me there always must be a story throughout the night. It is not hard to put some hitty records after each other. If you manage to get a nice bow in your set that is much more appealing to me. And also to break the norm here and there is important to me. WAS IT A LOGICAL STEP TO START PRODUCING? Yes it was. As it was not the very early times of electronic music it was already hard to just get gigs because you can DJ. So it was a logical step to get into producing and make myself a name to get more gigs in the end. I am glad it worked out and i am even more glad that with the producing a whole other world opened up. WHAT IS THE BEST THING ABOUT THE DIYNAMIC FAMILY? The best thing is that we actually are a family. There is a big bound throughout the team. Its the most important thing for us that all individuals also work as teamplayers. This makes us very strong. IF YOU WOULDN’T BE INVOLVED IN ELECTRONIC MUSIC AT ALL, WHAT WOULD BE YOUR JOB? I just know i would still do something where i am my own boss in the end. Maybe i would own a restaurant. That is appealing as it covers many sides of what i like. Being creative in the kitchen but also organize stuff.

SECOND YEAR ON IBIZA, HOW IS IT GOING SO FAR? The second season started just perfect i must say. It’s all a tad different compared to last year as people already know what the Neon Nights are and the guests come with certain expectations. As we always try to think forward we are smart enough not to try to fulfill expectations and just go on with what we believe makes a great outstanding party experience. I am also more than happy that i got my other residency at Insane in Pacha. This has been a great night so far and the booking is excellent. I feel really comfortable in the whole Pacha surrounding. This people do a great job and the productions are so well organized. If it would be like this everywhere we would have to care much less about things and just focus on the music. WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE IN PLAYING SANKEYS AND PACHA? In the beginning i was a bit afraid if i could play my style as usual also at Pacha and in the end i must say musicwise there is no difference. I can play 100 % real in both clubs. At Solomun’s +1 parties were i also played two times so far this season we had an amazing rave vibe and it wasn´t any different from what we play at other locations. This is very important to us in the end. DO YOU HAVE TIME TO EXPLORE THE ISLAND? Yes i have, for that you need a car on ibiza, that’s for sure. This year i´ve been a lot to the westcoast of the island. I really like the beaches on that side. Especially the small ones where you have to climb down rocks, they are more intimate than the bigger ones. In general i just love this island and the whole style of living here. Food has always been important to me and there is so much great stuff all over! IF YOU’D HAVE A MAGIC WAND AND COULD CHANGE THREE THINGS INSTANTLY ON IBIZA, WHAT WOULD THEY BE? That’s kind of a mean question as i really like the island how it is as i feel so comfortable. But i am also lucky as i am part of the party wheel. When i think about the people though the price policy especially for the people who can´t afford it would be worth a change. It would be just great if everybody who is keen to listen to the music would also have the chance to go to those events. WHAT DO YOU THINK OF DUB IBIZA NETWORK? We have been supported from Dub Ibiza from the very first releases on Diynamic. Especially Hofer66 has helped us out a lot also regarding all sorts of stuff on the island. So i actually have my personal experience with the dub ibiza network and must say it is great. Please keep it like that. HOLA HOLGER, ES UN GRAN PLACER RECIBIR EN NUESTRA REVISTA A OTRO ARTISTA DE UNO DE NUESTROS SELLOS FAVORITOS DE TODOS LOS TIEMPOS - ¡Y QUIÉN MEJOR DESPUÉS DEL INCONDICIONAL SOLOMUN QUE TÚ! HE LEÍDO QUE EMPEZASTE UN POCO TARDE EN LA PRODUCCIÓN, ¿CÓMO TE HICISTE DJ PARA EMPEZAR? Empecé yendo a fiestas techno a finales de los 90. Cada semana visitábamos todo tipo de fiestas en el norte de Alemania, con un grupo de 6 a 8 personas. En un momento, también empezamos a comprar esos discos que, en aquella época, aparte de en algunas cintas casete grabadas no estaban disponibles como sucede hoy en día, que se encuentran por cualquier parte en internet. Así que, era simplemente una cuestión de tiempo que organizásemos dos viejos tocadiscos (uno que ni siquiera tenía un pitch) de nuestros padres con una porquería de mixer y que empezásemos a tocar nuestras propias grabaciones. Llegó un momento que eso ya no era suficiente y nosotros mismos empezamos a organizar pequeñas fiestas y yo fui el primero en ser DJ en esas fiestas. Muy pronto, estaba enganchado a comprar discos y, de hecho, nunca tenía dinero, porque me lo gastaba todo en discos. En aquella época, todavía tenía diferentes trabajos. Así que, en un determinado momento, una de mis exnovias, que era 7 años mayor que yo, como que me convenció de que era bueno en esto y que debería hacer de la música mi principal trabajo. Una vez que este pensamiento se manifestó, ya no había marcha atrás. ¿CUÁL FUE EL PRIMER DISCO QUE TE COMPRASTE? Michael Jackson – Bad, creo. Del Techno algo de los primeros trabajos de Der Dritte Raum. ¿QUÉ ES LO QUE HACE UNA BUENA SESIÓN DE DJ? En mi opinión, una buena sesión de DJ es en primer lugar divertido, pero también educativo. Para mí, siempre debe haber una historia a lo largo de toda la noche. No es difícil poner unos discos de éxitos uno después de otro. Si consigues hacer una buena transición en tu sesión, para mí eso es mucho más interesante. Y, para mí, romper las normas aquí y allá también es importante. ¿FUE UN PASO LÓGICO EMPEZAR A PRODUCIR? Sí, lo fue. Como no eran los principios de la música electrónica, ya era difícil conseguir actuaciones sólo porque podías pinchar. Así que fue un paso lógico meterse en producción y hacerme un nombre a mí mismo para al final conseguir más actuaciones. Me alegro de que funcionase y me alegro más aún de que produciendo, todo un mundo nuevo se abrió ante mí.

rante. Eso me resulta atrayente ya que incluye muchos aspectos que me gustan. Ser creativo en la cocina, pero también organizar cosas. SEGUNDO AÑO EN IBIZA, ¿CÓMO VAN LAS COSAS POR AHORA? Tengo que decir que la segunda temporada ha tenido un comienzo simplemente perfecto. Es todo un poco diferente comparado con el año pasado, ya que la gente sabe lo que son las ‘Neon Nights’ y los invitados vienen con determinadas expectativas. Como siempre, intentamos pensar por adelantado, somos lo suficientemente listos como para no intentar cumplir expectativas y simplemente seguir con lo que creemos que hace una magnífica y espectacular fiesta. También estoy más que cotento de tener mi otra residencia en Insane, en Pacha. Hasta el momento ha sido una noche fantástica y el booking es excelente. Me siento realmente a gusto en todo el entorno de Pacha. Esta gente realiza un trabajo estupendo y las producciones están muy bien organizadas. Si fuese así en todas partes nos podríamos preocupar mucho menos por las cosas y simplemente centrarnos en la música. ¿CUÁL ES LA DIFERENCIA EN TOCAR EN SANKEYS Y EN PACHA? Al principio estaba un poco preocupado de si podría tocar en mi estilo de siempre también en Pacha y, al final, debo decir que en lo que a la música se refiere, no hay diferencia. Puedo tocar 100% auténtico en ambos clubs. En Solomun’s +1 en fiestas en las que también toqué dos veces esta temporada hasta el momento, y en las que tuvimos un ambiente rave increíble y no había ninguna diferencia con lo que tocamos en otros lugares. Al fin y al cabo, para nosotros esto es muy importante. ¿TIENES TIEMPO PARA EXPLORAR LA ISLA? Sí, lo tengo, para eso en Ibiza necesitas un coche, eso está claro. Este año he estado mucho en la costa oeste de la isla. Me encantan las playas de ese lado. En especial las pequeñas donde tienes que bajar por las rocas, son más íntimas que las playas grandes. En general, me encanta esta isla y todo el estilo de vida de aquí. La comida ha sido siempre importante para mí y ¡hay tantas cosas estupendas por todas partes! SI TUVIERAS UNA VARITA MÁGICA Y PUDIERAS, INSTANTÁNEAMENTE, CAMBIAR TRES COSAS EN IBIZA, ¿CUÁLES SERÍAN? Esa es una pregunta un tanto malvada, porque de verdad me gusta la isla tal y como es, ya que me siento muy a gusto. Pero, también tengo suerte, porque formo parte de la máquina de las fiestas. Cuando pienso en la gente, la política de precios, sobre todo para la gente que no puede permitírselo, sería bueno un cambio. Sería simplemente estupendo si todo el mundo al que le guste escuchar música tuviera también la oportunidad de asistir a esos eventos.

¿QUÉ ES LO MEJOR DE LA FAMILIA DIYNAMIC? La mejor es que de verdad somos una familia. Existe un gran vínculo entre todo el equipo. Lo más importante para nosotros es que todos los individuos también trabajen como colaboradores. Esto nos hace muy fuertes.

¿QUÉ OPINAS DE LA NETWORK DE DUB IBIZA? Hemos recibido el apoyo de Dub Ibiza desde los primerísimos lanzamientos en Diynamic. En especial Hofer66 nos ayudó muchísimo en lo que tiene que ver con todo tipo de cosas en la isla. Así que, de hecho tengo una experiencia personal con Dub Ibiza y debo decir que es fantástica. Por favor, seguid así.

We’ve just started to do 6 events at BOOOM! from July 19th to August, 16th on Friday’s as well! It’s crazy! After last year’s debut album Oliver delivers a more floor oriented album wit the same or even more depth he showed in the first one. Tracks to conquer all hearts, hips and minds in a blink of an eye, my faves are ‘Be’ and the title track ‘Exit’, both of immense quality with only one aim - to stay in your mind wanting to press repeat over and over again.

Andreas delivers an album that is very rich in different soundscapes, always beautifully crafted with all frequencies where they should be. From the hypnotic titletrack ‘Mountain’ over the dark ‘Around the blend’ to my fave, the heartbreaking ‘Fallin’. A true masterpiece and a great collection of tracks for the skilled DJ.

Kenneth Bager has finally found an adecuate home on the island in Café Mambo where he resides this summer, and what better way to celebrate this than to present their latest compilation. All who know him will be very pleased by his excellent music choice, and in case you have not heard of him yet - this collection of rare tracks makes crystal clear that he is a true master of all shades of electronic music. A must.

Matt John is one of the most talented members of the Cocoon family, he took over the wheels of steel to present this year’s vision of the Cocoon family on how to create a perfect trip into the deeper shades of techno á la Cocoon, starting sweet taking you over to tribal and vocalloaded straight into cool tech, but always with an attitude.

Not as weird as the cover but another proof that master Anders is not seeking for more of the same, being a real explorer of wider shades of electronic music á la Trentemøller in its widest sense. A true piece of art, imagining them performing it live must be an impressive trip through his universe of sounds. Collaborators are Kazu Makino from Redhead, Ghost Society and legendary Low.

Nico and Christian present their collection of finest tracks under the ‘Musik gewinnt Freunde - music makes friends’ label, hosting some of their finest tracks so far. Their sound can best be described as ‘sophisticated dance music for the truly skilled listener’ as you got no other choice than to dive deep into their universe of deep tech house with such genius - it is no wonder they are called the new ‘Berlin Wonderboys’.

This album is the fruit of a collaboration between Lazare Hoche and Malin Génie, they met and connected satraight away and started this series out of the lbue. This second, strictly vinyl release, is an amalgmation between hardware and software - Roland, Fender & Co meet Ableton, out comes a hommage to house with a very own depth and a myriad of emotions.

The new album Somebody’s Heaven is an eclectic mix inspired by jazz, soul, folk and dub. It embodies both an electronic and an organic vibe. The tracks distinctively weave together the sounds from long term collaborators like Chris Bucknall on keyboards, Tony Dallas on guitar and Karl Bingham on bass… sweetly elevated by the awesome vocals of Cherry Mars, Siobhan Lynch, Naomi Moss and Jack Kenworthy.

The classic from Sono got remixed by the likes of Chopstick&Johnjon, Marc Romboy and H.O.S.H., the latter being the best of them with a distance. The way Holger treats rhythms and twists bits and pieces from the original make this one a heavy groover and perfect tool for all pleasure seekers under you DJs out there. The way he treats beats and breaks them up shows he is on top of his game. A real killer track.

It is with great humor that this young producer does his work, i always get a smile on my face while my booty starts to move. ‘Blues Mile’ is such a funny track, banjo meets country meets heavy snare-alarm, all embedded in a solid groove. ‘See Your’ is the second track on this ep - once more a great vocal searching for something tingling on top of a rich sound, tattooing a smile on your face.

Even if the LP is included in the long player review i want to especially bespeak this track, a masterpiece of indie meets electronic, the addictive voice of Fabian Reichelt is the lead factor in the whole track, submitting a feeling between sadness and hope. Beats are broken, reinstalled, erased only to emerge from zero again. Great masterpiece!

Another classic already, Tim Green always implements some oldschool effects but refurbished until they fit his standards. Highly groovy and heavily equipped, ‘Midnight roller’ is just as the name says, it gets you rollin want it or not. ‘Halftone’ is nothing for the faint hearted, heavy beats, claps, snares and bum tching tchack drill into your ears, a chorus from another planet blends in to say hello and all together it makes an addictive track.

OLIVER SCHORIES / BE Another track taken from an album you find in the longplayers, but again a track to review. My actual number one, not the reinvention of the wheel but the way Oliver builds up the track, such love put into detail and the overall feel makes you stick onto the track, saying ‘I want to be just as i am’ - mission accomplished, Oliver - bravo.

CIPY / BREAKFAST IN SYDENHAM Not brandnew but what a track - build to lull you away in pleasure, rich in textures and melodies, trippy synths and dreamy vocals take you on a trip to your inner child.The other two are not as sexy but always worth a try. Another great release on Kindisch, sublabel from Get Physical.

SMASH TV / SELLING DREAMS This is one of the tracks from their new album, it received some extra treatment and became even better - the dub version is clearly the winner in my opinion, something to regain the crowd, an epic melody meets some bells and rare other sounds, creating a surreal ambience with a solid groovy basement - ready is a trip to floor heaven. Especially suitable for warm-ups, cool-downs and anywhere in a creative set.

ANDRE LODEMANN / IMAGINE Dessous records is back with another great artist, Andre Lodemann - since his track ‘Lovers’ he got a special place in my heart. ‘Imagine’ is a heavy groover with a cool vocal, taking your feet on a heavy mover, while ‘Eyes wide open’ is more epic, female vocal bits ride a rich groove construct, all is very concentrated yet still somehow relaxed. The remix from Ali Alvarez is my personal fave, takes things a bot more relaxed but pushes the crowd to the floor want them or not. 78

WALTER EGO / HEAVEN All three tracks have on thing in common - oldschool house synths, rich basslines and a classic kick unite all three. ‘Jam Roll’ is a bit of a starter, nice to introduce a sophisticated crowd to a long night, ‘Grab Somebody’ takes things a bit further into the beat and finally titletrack ‘Heaven’ takes you on a tour of an imaginary 12inch - sweet melodies meet warm synths, all bedded into a rich oackage of bassline and kick, supported by classic strings and hihats, crowned by female and male vocals to round it up.

DANCE SPIRIT / FUTURE ROMANCE The duo delivers another great release to Mr. C’s Superfreq label, making this one a bridge between classic house, deep rhythms topped by warm synths, the male vocal is just right to complete the package. ‘Time Seclusion’ does more of the same but louder, heavier, bolder but never overdoing things. ‘Future Romance’ is the title track and deserves to be so, disco-ish synths meet a schizo build-up, never knowing if we are riding to peak or are on the way down already - great track just before peak time. Last but not least ‘Voices in my head’ is about to drive the crowd crazy, multi-layered and rich in sounds, synths, rhythm constructs so you won’t have time to even breathe.

TERENCE PARKER / FINALLY BE MINE Terence teams up with heavy weight Louie Vega and singer Reno Ka to deliver a classic house stomper with an attitude. The original is a heavy duty Detroit meets Chicago thang, C2 is riding the same wave on their remix and Planet E is breaking it up a bit but my track is Louie’s Dance Ritual mix, a bit stripped down, more mellow and for that the more accessible one. Only for house lovers.

YOUNGTEE / GET DEEPER

ANDRADE / CLOUDS UP

The name says it all, even if it is not as deep as one might think it still covers the deeper side of house. Rich sounds, complex claps, snares and synths meet a heavy disco bassline, the kick could be a bit more prominent for my taste but anyway. The title track f. Roland Clark is my fave, the classic ‘I get deeper’ track in a new outfit, trippy yet beautifully crafted, building up like good sex, leaving you with the urge for more.

Andrade kicks things off with a bang, opening with ‘Dark Message’, a hypnotic, ever-evolving house track, featuring insistent synth melodies, weighty drums and a warm, organic feel. Title track ‘Clouds Up’ follows, taking on a Chicago House feel this time, with looped wah-wah guitar licks, classic house strings and bumpy, shuffled drums running throughout, while jazzy double bass hooks add a further natural musicality to the record. Closing the release is ‘Rush Minute’, soft reverberated pads, processed vocals and bell chime like melodies are also thrown into the mix adding a profound, hidden depth to the track.

PIEK / WYWFM WYWFM stands for What You Want From Me - starting disco, ending up schizo, in between lies the truth. The remix from Affkt is more bass-oriented, dancefloor friendly, more accessible but nevertheless as intense as the original. ‘Insorit’ is a bit more hypnotic, still rich in texture but more for the ‘i dance with my eyes closed’ crowd, and the remix from Marc Scholl called ‘Glory Hole’ brings it to the point - less sounds, more kick and bass but slightly reduced, making it the shaker of the four track EP.

F.I.N.E. / RIDE AU DELA Not finished yet but i have to review it, a track made out of more than 50 hours of footage from a village in Mali where the Dogons live - a tribe far away from our frenzy with one thing that keeps them together - rhythm. A deep tech killergroove jumping out of the classic 4/4 beat but delivering a 5/4 instead without anybody noticing it. The only problem this track has - it is too short. Already heavy support by some shamans, this track will make its way to the sets of the most in demand - i am very sure.

H.O.S.H. / FOREVER YOUNG Holger aka H.O.S.H. created a two part trip to stay forever young, and as he is honing his craft on a daily basis we are very keen on all he is releasing. Together with Wayan he delivers ‘Astronaut’ - a track far away from every cliché, he manages to break beats in his very own way, adding trippy synths driving your mind mad. ‘Fireman’ starts quite boring compared to the first one but emerges as a heavy mind trip, together with colleague Stimming he delivers ‘Cowboy’ - a classic Diynamic ride with finest ingredients, made for a crazy crowd on the Neon floor. ‘Lifeguard’ rounds up the package, a disco track with no disco attitude, great vocal and a reduced speed to shake that ass.

DANIEL STEINBERG / SALAMANDER ‘Beautiful’ is the first track and name is program, a supercool, relaxed yet goosebumpy track to warm up a heavy night, whilst ‘Lazy bones’ is the other b-side and takes things more down, cool guitar riffs meet dreamy synths, a lullaby of a female vocal is drenched in synths and snares. ‘Moon ride’ is the disco oriented track to please the sexy crowd and title track ‘Salamander’ is the deepest, violin-fuelled track to make you fly on the floor, but not too late at night or very very late.

NYMA / FLIP SIDE Tehran born and Berlin raised Nyma is fast rising due to his high skills as a producer of the deeper shades of house, tech house and techno. As a real musician one notices the depth and experience this young talent has already and positions him as one of the most promising newcomers on the scene. Deep sounds ranging from experimental to heavily groovy, always perfectly settled make this one a great debut on Desolat.

APP / YOYO The title tracks is a relaxed funk number with beautiful vocal cuts and a raw nu-disco vibe. ‘Why Not’ furthers the vibe and set a slightly more serious tone with the vocals pitched down and chords turned up. ‘Around You’ carries the most bass of all the tracks on the EP. ‘Bringing up the rear’ is another nu-disco blend of house that throws us all the way back to when it all started with its retro feel and steady rhythms. 80

DENIS HORVAT / DALÍ Denis Horvat knows exactly what he is doing and you notice it in each track of this EP, title track ‘Dalí’ starts quite smooth but adds so many layers to the track that it is impossible to follow them all. ‘Bouncing the line’ has two stars, the bass and the schizo snare, both together make it a real trip into dance floor heaven. Last track ‘Vermo’ is the tribal tech track to shake it all out, if you don’t move to that you might as weill be at home since quite a while...

VAYLO / FAWN US house is in fashion, no doubt, especially when it is well crafted as this Leftroom release. The original is straight forward, no prisoners, like it or not, the first remix comes from Waifs & Strays, taking it a bit slower yet more intense as the sounds are better positioned. Daniel Maher takes it even more rhythmic, as the name says ‘Dunken Drums mix’ - so you can expect a heavy dose of snares, strings and claps. ‘Conject’ is the last track on the EP, adding some Roland-style synths to the rich soundmelange.

SIOPIS + KIKI / SMOKE SIGNALS Reduced melodies, reversed vocals and an intelligent build-up make this one a real GPM release as here it is all about the pleasure of listening. The original is very bassline oriented, the remix from Sipois himself is more relaxed, a rich twisted synth plays the main character whilst Kiki is taking her remix into hypnotic fields, with no guarantee of a fast return.

LEFTFIELD / SONG OF LIFE - BETOKO RMX Who des not know thew original, the veterans have screamed to it so many times over sophisticated floors that it almost hurts and newbies find it hard to access as it is a true monster track of former times. Betoko takes the challenge and turns this flyer into a heavy bassline, kick driven masterbeat that will move not only the floors all over the globe but stick in your head for a loooong time. One of the tracks this summer.

TOM FLYNN / A NEW DAWN Tom is one heavy weight when it comes to hypnotic synth-driven tracks with big balls. Title track ‘A new dawn’ is one of those, you never know where your brain is stuck, but it always is one step behind the shaking booty. ‘Under my control’ is the sweetest of the four, warm melody meets stirring vocal with a beautiful output. ‘Remote Event’ is almost minimalistic yet still rich in melodies, definitely the mover, and ‘Trip Journey’ is, as the name says, your ticket to exit this world and dive into another one, with almost 12 minutes a serious trip.

GREGORYTHME / SOULFLY / SPACED OUT Cityfox is not only since the heavy support from GPM one of my favourite labels, they always deliver something different. Gregory Poncet delivers a two track killer that is designed to make you fly as high as you wish to. As deep as it can be, ‘Space Out’ is a heavy deep tech trip that unfolds with every second, every beat its real depth, leaving you breathless wanting to repeat as soon as it ends. ‘Soulfly’ is of a higher charm, very rich in melody and synths, a true deep tech house masterplan if you decide to step out of the usual.
