APOCALYPSE NOW. One of the biggest mistakes of our society is to think that we live in a democracy that is based on reason and good intentions. What i can see on our beloved island is a series of restrictive laws that will seriously interfere in the layout of our future. How can anybody seriously decide a law to declare live music illegal in open spaces, ironically not for all venues but for most of them, and, if that is not enough, inside the venue music will be limited to 65 db – just so you got an idea, if you’re having a normal conversation between just two people it usually surpasses this limit. A good friend and owner of a beach venue told me that he will have to install a limiter for music on his terrace with a maximum of 55 db - the sea itself with the sound of the waves would surpass this limit, so what to do, prosecute the sea? The ‚Association of Musicians in Ibiza’, recently created, is trying to intervene into this law, pointing out that live music is a vital pillar in our society, and that the musicians are willing to collaborate to find a reasonable solution satisfying both parts, the music lovers and the neighbours that seek well-earned rest from their labour. Ironically it is also strictly forbidden to organize a manifestation in Spain, so slowly but surely the basic rights of citizens are undermined to easily enforce any new law. In the meantime the petrol companies still find a way to undermine accomplished laws to reach their goal by benefitting from a recent project called ‘MedSalt 2’ using air guns in a seismic survey to explore the ground of the Mediterranean Sea and its salt layer, seriously damaging the fauna of our biggest treasure, nature. Ironically, this is exactly the same method that they would use to find oil reserves and, guess what, they already manifested their interest in the result of this research. Oh, and if that wasn’t enough, if you are drunk and you call a friend to drive you home you better go on the backseat as a drunk copilot is subject to fine too now. I’m just imagining four drunk friends taking a cab home (which is the damn right thing to do) and the driver says „i can only take three of you if you are all drunk“ – wow, that makes so much sense. This island was all about ‘The Beach’ and ‘Dune’, ‘More’ and ‘The Big Lebowski’, ‘Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas’ and ‘La Grande Bouffe’, ‘Pulp Fiction’ and ‘From Dusk Till Dawn’, spiced with a touch of ‘Apocalypse Now’. If we start to prohibit our roots and limit our needs to find a solution to problems we might as well end up with ‘The Great Dictator’ versus ‘Blade Runner’, spiced with a touch of Donaldo Trompeto. Really? Seriously??

Uno de los mayores errores de nuestra sociedad es pensar que vivimos en una democracia basada en la razón y en las buenas intenciones. Lo que yo puedo ver en nuestra amada isla es una serie de leyes restrictivas que van a interferir seriamente en el diseño de nuestro futuro. ¿Cómo puede alguien proponer en serio una ley que declare ilegal la música en directo en espacios abiertos? Irónicamente, no se aplica a todos los recintos, pero sí a la mayoría de ellos; y por si esto no fuera suficiente, dentro del recinto el sonido estará limitada a 65 db – para que te hagas una idea, una conversación normal entre dos personas por lo general sobrepasa este límite. Un buen amigo y dueño de un local en la playa me ha comentado que tendrá que instalar en su terraza un limitador paor el sonido con un máximo de 55 db – el mar mismo, con el sonido de las olas sobrepasa ese límite, así que, ¿qué van a hacer? ¿llevar a juicio al mar? La ‘Asociación de Músicos de Ibiza’, creada recientemente, está intentando interceder en esta ley, señalando que la música en directo es un pilar fundamental de nuestra sociedad y que los músicos están dispuestos a colaborar para encontrar una solución razonable que satisfaga a ambas partes, a los amantes de la música y a los vecinos que buscan un buen merecido descanso después de su jornada laboral. Irónicamente, en España también está estrictamente prohibido organizar una manifestación, por lo que, lento pero seguro, los derechos básicos de los ciudadanos están siendo socavados para imponer cualquier nueva ley. Mientras tanto, las compañías petrolíficas todavía encuentran la manera de socavar leyes ya alcanzadas para lograr su objetivo de beneficiarse de un reciente proyecto llamado ‘MedSalt 2’, utilizando cañones de aire comprimido en un sondeo acústico para explorar el fondo del mar Mediterráneo y su capa de sal, dañando seriamente la fauna de nuestro mayor tesoro, la naturaleza. Irónicamente, este es exactamente el mismo método que utilizarían para encontrar reservas de petróleo y, adivina qué, ya han manifestado su interés en el resultado de esta investigación. Oh, y por si esto fuera poco, si estás borracho y llamas a un amigo para que vaya a buscarte, mejor que te sientes en el asiento de atrás, porque un copiloto borracho está ahora también sujeto a una multa. Me estoy imaginando a cuatro amigos borrachos llamando un taxi para volver a casa (que es justo lo que deberían hacer) y el taxista diciéndoles “si estáis todos borrachos solo puedo llevar a tres” – vaya, sí que tiene sentido. Esta isla era una mezcla de ‘La Playa’ y ‘Dune’, ‘More’ y ‘El Gran Lebowski’, ‘Miedo y Asco en Las Vegas’ y ‘La Gran Comilona’, ‘Pulp Fiction’ y ‘Abierto Hasta el Amanecer’, sazonado con una pizca de ‘Apocalypse Now’. Si empezamos a prohibir nuestras raíces y limitar nuestras necesidades para encontrar una solución a problemas es bastante posible que terminemos con ‘El Gran Dictador’ versus ‘Blade Runner’, sazonada con una pizca de Donaldo Trompeto. ¿De veras? ¿En serio?? 18.1

TO ‘BREAK-YOUR-FAST’ in Ibiza town you have a variety of options, we still recommend the Croissant Show, from 07:30 on you can get your caffeine dose and the finest patisseries. On the backside, facing the old town wall, you will find Out of Time People, not just breakfast but a real spiritual encounter! You’re staying somewhere outside Ibiza town? In Jesus you have to try the Bon Lloc, they have a great variety of Tapas, too. Cana Negreta on the road to Sta. Eulalia offers you Bar Toni, very reasonable prices! In Sta. Eulalia you should visit the Bar Cosmi on the main road, or the Café Sidney inside the port of Eulalia. San Carlos hosts the classic Bar Anita, THE reference for breakfast, bocadillos, tapas etc. San Juan is just as original, there the place is called Vista Alegre, or try the Giri Café with their fantastic restaurant. In San Lorenzo La Paloma is where you should go, not just good breakfast but a fantastic brunch and buffet as well! In San Miguel you have to visit the ‘Café of the false teeth’ in the market place, coffee for 1 Euro! Sta. Gertrudis, still my favourite, offers savoury breakfasts from 08.00h at Can Partit or fancy Musset, good breakfast, breads and midday menues. If you stay in San Antonio you should visit the very end of the port, there you find the Café des Port, best food at best prices. San Rafael you should try the Bar Cruce, THE place for a strong coffee and the latest gossip on the big terrace. Sta. Ines offers the famous Bar Cosmi, not just for Breakfast.

You Broke-your-fast? Then let’s go and get some sun. If you are into sunbathing then please be very careful, don’t stay too long, have a carrot juice before and use natural sun protection, if not your holiday can become a nightmare! In case you get sunburned you should use yoghurt or fresh lemon juice to cool it, then fresh Aloe Vera to calm it down.

In Salinas my first choice was, is and will always be the one and only Sa Trinxa, unique crowd, Balearic Beats and high quality food for a reasonable price - and try the Cava Sangria! Jockey Club, the adjacent Malibu and Guaraná are beautiful spots to disconnect and enjoy life. In Es Cavallet, on the other side of Salinas, you can find the Es Cavallet Chiringuito or the Chiringuay further down the beach, the latter is home to the more colourful crowd - a dream! In Playa d’en Bossa you find hot spots in its true sense, Beachouse hosts some fine events and serves great food. White Ibiza is hidden behind Lips, great atmo and food for a reasonable price! Cala Nova behind Es Canar is a gorgeous beach to relax and sunbath, plus you will find Atzaró Beach, a perfect spot to dine, enjoy life and see and be seen. Chirincana in Es Canar is the best spot to do some water-sports in a most cool surrounding. Enough tourists? Cala d’Hort offers the view to the legendary Es Vedra, 360 meters of magnetic rock – a must. Sa Caleta is a dream for bathing and you must try their Café Caleta, as is Es Codolar behind the airport, no sandy beach but inside the water yes, and this is just crystalline - and you can take your dog even in high season! Cala Jondal presents Yemanja and Tropicana for food and Blue Marlin for drinks - very posh and perfect to spot, see and be seen. San Antonio is massive, but you have to know where to go. A must is still Café del Mar or the Golden Buddha around the corner, not to forget Kumharas, truly the best sunsets, a place you cannot miss to find the authentic Ibiza. Cala Moli is a secret tip, after San Antonio head south, follow the signs, it is worth the search! Cala Conta hosts the Sunset Ashram, a gorgeous beach restaurant with a pictoresque sunset and

good live-music. Cala Xarraca high up in the north is a must-see as well, or Cala Benirras next to San Miguel with its eco friendly place Elements. Nowadays you need to take a bus on Sundays to get down there. Aguas Blancas on the way to Cala San Vicente is a perfect spot to take a dip, clear water and relatively few people, visit the Chiringuito on the right side at the end, true Ibiza spirit! One real secret tip is the El Bigote in the Cala Mastella (after San Carlos head north and follow the signs), most fresh seafood of your life. Between Sta. Eulalia and Jesus comes Cala Llonga, follow the signs to Amante, a hidden spot surrounded by rocks, a perfect restaurant and perfect to relax and chill… We do not forget s’Estanyol now called Cala Bonita, go half way from Jesus to Talamanca, take a left up the mountain and then follow the sign down to the beach, a spot to disconnect and recharge your batteries. In Santa Eulalia on the way to Es Canar you find Babylon Beach, turn right just before the big Eroski supermarket and head down. In Es Figueral the crew of Las Dalias hosts the beach Chiringuito converting it into a not-so-secret spot to relax and recharge - try it out!

SHOPPING? For sure, you are on holiday! The price range

is enormous, but all named here are worth a visit: Las Dalias just before San Carlos is home to the one and only Hippie market, here everybody finds something really original. For leather you should go to Darío Bomé in San Miguel, see Manfred Postel’s shop in Sta. Ines, visit Te Cuero in Sta. Gertrudis or combine beach and shopping at Salinas parking place with Hecho A Mano, best leather garments ever. For souvenirs and fashion go to Histericcompliments on Vara de Rey. You can find all sport brands cheap in La Sirena, there are lots on the island. You have to visit the old town of Ibiza, this is the real deal, you just have to look around! Hippychick is another secret tip; you can find it in two places: c/Ses Figueres in Talamanca and Playa Cala Vadella. A complete different experience is Vicente Ganesh in the Marina, vintage second hand designer clothings and incredible accessoires are just a few things to explore. The shop from Carhartt opposite the taxi stand in Ibiza town is another hot spot for the urban inspired, as is the Religion shop opposite of Vara de Rey towards the port - for the true stylish. Not a fashion shop but a kind of all-in-one is the Cocoq Store on the road to Sta. Eulalia after the Go Kart, a real shopping orgasm, as is Sluiz, on the road to Sta. Gertrudis. If you look for second hand of all kind visit the Troc on the road to the vehicle inspection.

HUNGER... a basic need, and here in Ibiza you should pay

special attention to it, because the nights are very exhausting. There are so many incredibly good restaurants we can not mention because of the lack of space, but here are some of the best ones: Power food is available in various places such as Es Tap Nou in the center of Ibiza, fresh veggies and fruits become your juice or salad of the day. A great place is the Eat is Life at the roundabout of Can Misses – you can choose from a most healthy buffet and get fantastic food for a great price! Another hot spot is the Local’s Only on the Plaça del Parque, creative Mediterranean food for a reasonable price. A great experience is El Clodenis opposite the church of San Rafael, a magic venue where gastronomy meets art with an incredible team behind it, offering mediterranean kitchen with an ethnic touch and a mouthwatering Cevicheria, plus a fantastic selection of Mezcals.

Cheap, good, fresh and fast? Comida San Juan in Ibiza Town next to the Plaça del Parque. Bar1805 close to the Dôme is a real escape from the rush and perfect for some French mussels, and you have to try their Absentha - yeee ha! A local tip is the Es Fornas next to the sport centre between Ibiza and Puig d’en Valls, Theo prepares best homemade food for a great price. Peter Pan is an Italian jewel at the very end of the Calle de la virgin. La Imprenta is opposite the former Teatro Pereyra, great food in a baroque surrounding. Eulalia - San Carlos offers a great variety of fusion food combined with live beats, all settled in a beautiful garden. Great Italian food? Es Tancó in Sant Jordi, italian food elaborated with love. La Luna Nell’ Orto in San Miguel is one of the most authentic restaurants of all times. In Sta. Eulalia we recommend SomiArt by Foc y Fum on the esplanade, not just perfect food but performances in a special surrounding – a must. Casa Colonial on the road to Sta. Eulalia is a real escape in another world, best fusion food and service! In Km5 on the road to San Jose you can have fantastic meat in a unique atmosphere, a real trip. A great escape is the BHS (BoutiqueHotelSalinas) just after the roundabout of Salinas, high-quality tasty food from great meat to fantastic fish and seafood in a beautiful setting. For Vegetarians / Vegans we recommend the Wild Beets in Sta. Gertrudis, all you ever wished for - a must. If you want to eat a REAL chicken you have to go to Can Balafia on the road to San Juan, you’ve never tried one like this before, all homemade, from the potatoes over their very own chicken to their Hierbas. In San Antonio we have to mention Kumharas again and again, finest fusion food flavoured with easy beats. Expensive and worth it? Sa Capella up in San Antonio, Las dos Lunas on the Ibiza – San An road or Ama Lur by the Sta. Gertrudis roundabout, or prepare for the return of the angel in one of Ibiza’s most authentic venues, El Clodenis next to the church of San Rafael. Las Brisas in the port of Porroig is a great escape, fantastic food and a view to die for. Definitely Atzaró on the San Juan road Km15, you never saw a garden more beautiful and the food is excellent. You prefer fast food? The Huehner Karl in the port of Sta. Eulalia for German style, Mister Kebap also in Sta. Eulalia or Albertos Doener in Playa d’en Bossa opposite Sankeys. Burger? Pacha Hotel is, as the name indicates, another hot spot for 24h partying, if only the walls were a bit thicker because it is impossible to relax if your neighbour has a good time... Pacha Group runs the Destino Resort as well, located in the former The One in Cap Martinet with an incredible view over Formentera. Relax, retreat or enjoy finest exclusive shows in a high end surrounding. En San Lorenzo deberías probar la Paloma, no sólo ofrece buenos desayunos, ¡también hacen fantásticos almuerzos y buffets! En San Miguel tienes que visitar el ‘Café de las dentaduras postizas’ en el mercado, ¡café por 1 Euro! Sta. Gertrudis sigue siendo mi favorito, ofrece sabrosos desayunos desde las 8:00 en Can Partit o Musset, están de vuelta los desayunos, panes y menús a mediodía. Si estás alojado en San Antonio por equivocación, o si reservaste un hotel ahí, deberías visitar el Café des Port al final del puerto, la mejor comida al mejor precio. En San Rafael deberías probar el Bar Cruce, es EL lugar para un café cargadito y los últimos cotilleos en su gran terraza. Sta. Inés ofrece el famoso Bar Cosmi, no sólo para desayunos. ¿Ya has des-ayunado? ¡Pues entonces, vamos a tomar el sol! Si te gusta, por favor ten mucho, mucho cuidado, no te expongas demasiado tiempo al sol y protégete bien tomando un buen zumo de zanahoria y usando protección solar natural, ¡si no tus vacaciones pueden convertirse en una pesadilla! En caso de que te quemes, deberías usar yogur o zumo de limón para refrescar la piel y después Aloe Vera fresco para calmarla. En Salinas mi primera elección era, es y siempre será el único e incomparable Sa Trinxa, gente única, ritmos baleares y comida de calidad a precios razonables - ¡y tienes que probar la sangría de cava! El Jockey Club, el Malibu y el Guaraná también son lugares muy bonitos para desconectar y disfrutar de la vida. En Es Cavallet, al otro lado de las Salinas, encuentras El Chiringuito o, bajando más por la playa, el Chiringuay, en este último es donde se junta la gente más pintoresca. ¡Un sueño! En Playa d’en Bossa encontrarás lugares de moda en el verdadero sentido de la palabra, Beachouse es lugar de algunos eventos muy finos y tienen muy buena comida. White Ibiza esta escondido detras de Lips, buena atmosfera y comida por un precio muy razonable! Cala Nova detrás de Es Canar es la playa perfecta para relajarse y tomar el sol, además encontrarás Atzaró Beach, un lugar perfecto para cenar, disfrutar de la vida, ver y ser visto.

BOUTIQUE HOSTAL SALINAS

Chirincana en Es Canar, es EL sitio para los deportes acuáticos en un entorno supercool. ¿Has tenido bastante ya de turistas? Cala d’Hort te ofrece la vista a la legendaria Es Vedra, 360 metros de roca magnética – una visita obligatoria. Sa Caleta es un sueño para bañarse, y no te vayas sin probar su Café Caleta. Al igual que también es un sueño Es Codolar, detrás del aeropuerto. Está situado en una playa de piedras, pero sí hay arena debajo del agua, que es de lo más cristalina – ¡y puedes llevarte a tu perro incluso en temporada alta! Cala Jondal ofrece el Yemanja y el Tropicana para comer y el Blue Martinpara las bebidas - todos muy fashion y perfectos para relajarse, ver y ser visto. San Antonio es muy grande, pero tienes que saber muy bien adónde ir. Un sitio que no te debes perder es el Café del Mar o el Golden Buddha a la vuelta de la esquina, y no hay que olvidar Kumharas, sin duda las mejores puestas de sol, un lugar que no te puedes perder si quieres encontrar la verdadera Ibiza. Hostal la Torre is the new Café del Mar, go past the club Stella Maris and you will arrive there. Cala Moli es un consejo secreto - después de San Antonio, dirígete hacia el sur, sigue las indicaciones, ¡merece la pena buscarlo! Cala Conta alberga el Sunset Ashram, un maravilloso beach club con un pintoresco atardecer y buena música en directo.

Cala Xarraca, en la punta norte, es otro sitio que deberías visitar o Cala Benirras al lado de San Miguel, allí encontrarás lugares como Elements, perfecto para cargar las pilas. Aguas Blancas, de camino a Cala San Vicente es el sitio perfecto para pararse y darse un baño, la mejor agua y relativamente poca gente, visita el chiringuito a la derecha al final, espiritu puro de Ibiza! Un consejo realmente secreto es El Bigote en la Cala Mastella (después de San Carlos ve hacia el norte y sigue las indicaciones), el marisco más fresco que hayas probado en tu vida. Entre Sta. Eulalia y Jesús está Cala Llonga, desde allí sigue las indicaciones a Amante, el restaurante perfecto, escondido entre las rocas, lo mejor para relajarse… No nos olvidemos de s’Estanyol, que ahora se llama Cala Bonita, a mitad de camino entre Talamanca y Jesús, gira a la izquierda subiendo la montaña y luego sigue los carteles hasta la playa. Un lugar para desconectar y recargar las. En Santa Eulalia, en el camino a Es Canar, encontrarás el hermoso Babylon Beach, gira a la derecha justo antes del gran supermercado Eroski y ve hacia abajo. En Es Figueral la peña de Las Dalias se ha puesto al mando del chiringuito de la playa y lo ha convertido en un lugar no-tansecreto para relajarse y recargar baterías - ¡pruébalo!

¿NOS VAMOS DE COMPRAS? Claro que sí, ¡estás de

vacaciones! La gama de precios es enorme, pero todos los lugares que nombramos a continuación merecen una visita: Las Dalias, justo antes de San Juan es el hogar del único e incomparable mercado hippy, ahí todo el mundo encuentra algo realmente original. Para cosas de cuero deberías ir a Darío Bomé en San Miguel, a la tienda de Manfred Postel en Sta. Inés o a Te Cuero en Sta. Gertrudis, o combinar playa y compras en el Salinas parking, con los mejores complementos de cuero de Hecho A Mano que hayas visto jamás. Para souvenirs y moda, visita Histericcompliments, en Vara del Rey. En la Sirena encuentras todas las marcas deportivas a buen precio, hay muchos en la isla. Deberíais visitar la ciudad vieja de Ibiza, esa es la verdadera Ibiza, ¡sólo tienes que mirar a tu alrededor! Hippychic es otro consejo secreto; hay dos en la isla que se encuentran en c/Ses Figueres en Talamanca y en Cala Vadella. Una experiencia diferente es Vicente Ganesh, en la Marina, moda vintage de segunda mano y accesorios increíbles son algunas de las cosas para descubrir. La tienda de Carhartt, enfrente de la parada de taxis en la ciudad de Ibiza, es otro lugar clave para los de inspiración urbana, como también lo es para los modernos la tienda Religion, que se encuentra enfrente de Vara del Rey, dirigiéndose hacia el puerto. Nade de moda pero un sitio para encontrarlo todo es el Cocoq en la carretera de Sta. Eulalia despues de los carts, un orgasmo total, mas de esto encuentras en Sluiz en la carretara a Sta. Gertrudis. Y si miras por cosas de segunda mano visita al Troc en la carretera hacia la ITV.

HAMBRE... una necesidad básica, y aquí en Ibiza hay que prestarle especial atención, ya que las noches son muy exigentes. Hay tantos restaurantes increíblemente buenos que no podemos mencionar debido a la falta de espacio, pero aquí tienes algunos de los mejores: Encuentras Power food en varios sitios, como el Es Tap Nou en el centro de Ibiza, donde verduras y frutas del día que puedes combinar a tu gusto se convierten en tu zumo o ensalada. Otra alternativa es el Eat Is Life en la rotonda de Can Misses puedes elegir de un buffet saníssimo y tendras una muy buena comida por un precio razonable. Otro gran lugar es el Local’s Only en la Placa del Parque, comida mediterranea creativa por un buen precio también. La nueva estrella en Ibiza para nosotros es El Clodenis en frente de la iglesia de San Rafael, un lugar con mucha magia donde la gastronomía tiene cita con el arte, con cocina mediterranea con un toque etnico y una cevicheria increible. ¿Rápido, fresco, bueno y barato? Comida San Juan en Ibiza ciudad, cerca de la Plaça del Parque. Bar1805 en lo alto del Dome es una auténtica escapada de las prisas y perfecto para unos mejillones a la francesa y mucho más, además deberías probar su cóctel de absenta – ¡ye ha! Un consejo local es el restaurante Es Fornas donde el centro deportivo de Ibiza, Theo te prepara la mejor comida casera por un precio mas que razonable. La Imprenta en frente del antiguo Teatro Pereyra te ofrece comida rica en un ambiente baroque. Lo miso va por el Es Cami Vell en Puig d’en Valls - uno de LOS lugares del mediodia - rapido, sabroso y barato. ¿Cocina francesa de excelente calidad? Pastis, a la vuelta de la Plaça del Parque, es un indispensable. ¿Quieres comida india de verdad? Encontrarás comida fusión en Bambuddha Grove en la carretera a San Juan, tailandesa en Banyan Palace en la carretera de San José a San Antonio. Por último, pero no por ello menos importante, prueba la Casa Thai 2 en la Avda. Isidoro Macabich/San Antonio – mi favorito, así como el Chang Mai, en Santa Eulalia, al lado del Ajuntamiento. ¿Carne? Es Canto en Sta. Gertrudis tiene los mejores filetes. Can Caus por las tiras de solomillo de ternera de tu propia barbacoa.

Bar Costa en Sta. Gertrudis. ¿Una comida perfecta a la orilla del mar? El Café Sidney en el puerto de Sta. Eulalia es la elección perfecta. La Mezcaleria en la carretera de Sta. Eulalia hacia San Carlos te ofrece una gran variedad de comida fusion en combinacion con musica en directo en un jardin precioso. Comida Italiana? Es Tancó en Sant Jordi acaba de abrir sus puertas, comida italiana hecho con amor. La Luna Nell’ Orto en San Miguel es uno de los restaurantes más auténticos de la isla. ¡Era donde antes se celebraba el primer mercado Hippy de Ibiza! En Eulalia recomendamos el SomiArt de Foc y Fum en el Paseo Marítimo, no sólo comida perfecta, sino también performances en un entorno muy especial – ¡imperdible! Casa Colonial, en la carretera de Sta. Eulalia, es un verdadero refugio, la mejor comida fusión y el mejor servicio. También encuentras carne fantástica en el Km5, en la carretera a San José, en un ambiente único, una pasada. Un buen refugio es el BHS (BoutiqueHotelSalinas) justo después de la rotonda de Salinas, comida de gran calidad en un ambiente bonito - comida de altissima calidad en carnes y pescados en un entorno muy bonito. Para los vegetarianos / veganos recomendamos el Wild Beets en Sta. Gertrudis, bueno no, lo siguiente. Si quieres comer pollo DE VERDAD tienes que ir a Can Bafalia en la carretera a San Juan, nunca has probado un pollo así, todo casero, desde las patatas hasta las hierbas, pasando por su propio pollo. No te lo puedes perder.

Sa Capella en San Antonio, Las Dos Lunas en la carretera Ibiza – San Antonio o el Ama Lur donde la rotonda de Sta. Gertrudis. Preparate por el regreso del angel en uno de los sitios mas legendarios de Ibiza, El Clodenis en frente de la iglesia de San Rafael. Las Brisas arriba del puerto de Porroig es una escapada genial, gran comida y una vista que te mueres. Definitivamente tienes que ir al Atzaró en la Ctra. San Juan km15, nunca has visto un jardín más bonito y la comida es excelente. ¿Prefieres la comida rápida? El Huehner Karl en Sta. Eulalia para comida alemana, Mister Kebab también en Sta. Eulalia o Albertos Doener en Playa d’en Bossa al lado de Sankeys. ¿La mejor hamburguesa? Discoburger en la c/ Bartolomé Rossello/ Ibiza o en The Factory en Monte Christo. ¿Cena con puesta de sol incluida? De nuevo y sin duda, Kumharas en San Antonio, las Puertas del Cielo encima de Sta. Inés, Sunset Ashram en Cala Conta y, en algunos meses, Cala d’Hort con vistas a Es Vedra - o cualquier otra de las numerosas playas en el lado oeste de Ibiza. ¡Sólo tienes que encontrarla tú mismo! ¿Falta algo? Pues claro que sí, lo que la mayoría de vosotros viene buscando: ¡FIESTAAAAAA! Más de 400 bares, 6 discotecas grandes y unas 5 a 10 pequeñas, como mínimo 300 cabinas de DJ esperando que alguien pinche. Para un perfecto comienzo de la noche visita el Mambo Bar dentro del puerto de Ibiza o también al nuevo Paradise Lost con cocteles de primera y residentes a los platos, el Wild Bird en medio de la Calle de la Virgen con ambiente francés y gran atmosfera o ve al Bar 1805, la ginger beer (cerveza de jengibre) es legendaria, ¡como también lo es la absenta! 9Nine en el puerto es otro sitio perfecto para calentar la noche escuchando a los residentes de Ibiza, de y por amantes de la musica.

Nuevo al lado es el Inhalar, una dosis de oxigeno puro acompañado por cocteles y DJs a los platos. Por los clubbers ‘Hardcore’ recomendamos ir a Playa d’en Bossa con sus bares infinitos, allí el Tantra es nuestra recomendacion para entrar en el ritmo de la noche. En Sta. Eulalia tienes que ir al Guaraná, los domingos hay música en directo, los otros días podéis disfrutar de lo mejorcito del house. ¿Los orígenes de Ibiza? Las Dalias de camino a San Carlos ofrece buenas fiestas como el Namasté. Nuestro amado Underground, en la carretera Ibiza – San Antonio es otro de nuestros hogares, los mejores beats caseros por Juanito y invitados. El Km5, en la carretera de San José, decididamente tiene el jardín más bonito, aquí te encuentras con toda la peña de Ibiza en el entorno perfecto. Veto en la carretera hacia el Pacha es un auténtico club social con una actitud muy abierta. La Mezcaleria en la carretera de Sta. Eulalia a San Carlos ofrece una mezcla sana de musica en vivo con musica electronica con diferentes eventos - puro espiritu de Ibiza, lo mismo tendras un par de kilómetros hacia San Carlos en el Punta Carretas, buena música y buena onda. HELLO JOAN, TIME IS FLYING, THIS IS ALREADY THE FOURTH INTERVIEW AND IT IS ONCE MORE AN ENORMOUS PLEASURE TO COUNT ON YOU FOR THIS EDITION DEDICATED IN BIG PARTS TO OUR ISLAND AND WHAT IS HAPPENING AROUND US. FIRST OF ALL A REPETITIVE QUESTION, ARE YOU STILL A PERSON MAKING POLITICS OR DID YOU BECOME THE POLITICIAN TRYING TO BE A PERSON? I still am a person that is, at this exact moment in life, dedicated to the public service as a politician. We all are persons before anything else. Me personally i don’t know any extraterrestrial politician but it is true that there are some that dedicate so many years of their life to politics that they do not remember the life they had before doing that. I am well aware that my time in politics is limited, first of all i started a lot later than the mayority does. THE ISLAND IS GOING THROUGH CHANGES IN MANY SECTORS, SOME OF THEM WERE FORESEEABLE AND OTHERS ARE PROBALBY THEIR CONSEQUENCE. FIRST OF ALL IT SEEMS THERE ARE LESS PEOPLE COMING, WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THAT? I think we all are aware that we lived an unreal situation for a couple of years caused by a socio political situation in other countries on the planet that are a direct competition to Ibiza. What i see happening is actually the return to a normal status that Ibiza should have as the political situation in lots of those destinations is going back to normal after not receiving the tourism that they are entitled to. We’ve had a ‚borrowed’ tourism, people who’s preferred destination is not the Pitiusas. THE HOTELIERS COMMENT THAT THE BOOKINGS FOR JULY AND AUGUST ARE VERY MUCH BEHIND THE NUMBERS OF LAST YEAR AND THEY WILL HAVE TO LOWER THE PRICES TO BE ABLE TO FILL THEIR HOTELS. THAT SOUNDS GOOD TO ME, NOT? In my opinion the habits of travellers are changing and the fact that the number of reservations is not as high at the moment does not mean that we will have a bad season. I will not go into if the prices of our proposal are high or low, or what is that suits us best... well, yes... I believe that we need to find a way that our island is not as saturated as it happened during the last years. 32

I think as well that we who would like to have a sustainable Ibiza have to start losing the fear of a diminuishing concept, we are an island, and as such our physical space and our natural resources are limited, we can not grow forever, and in my point of view we have been growing too much anyway. IN THE SAME NEWSPAPER I READ THAT 40% OF THE TOURISTS WHO ARRIVE OPT FOR THE ILLEGAL OFFER OF ACCOMODATION WHEREAS FOR WHAT I SEE THIS OFFER HAS REDUCED SIGNIFICANTLY... SOMETHING IS WRONG? The massive problem of illegal accomodation is still existing, the new laws that have been approved during this legislation in the Government of the Balearic islands pursue this illegal offering and I am convinced that in a few years we all together will achieve that this will diminuish significantly, but it is complicated that this change will take place as fast as we all would like it for different reasons. First of all because the administrations have a lack of personnel that is difficult to cover, resulting in a decreasing capacity of inspection, we do not have the output to contract more inspectors what makes it dificult to prey this offer. It’s like the norm of circulation, even if you limit the speed but don’t have the police to penalize those who disobey the norm you will not achieve that lots of careless stop driving at 150 km per hour on our roads. Then there is the fact that to rent a home to tourists is a very appetizing business, a business that lots of families have based their existence on during many years, it will take time and effort to make these people understand that a home can not be object of speculation (even less in places as limited in space as Ibiza is and where the set of problems is so grave). SAN JOSÉ IS A BOUT TO INTRODUCE A LAW THAT WILL LIMIT THE VOLUME OF MUSIC TO 55 DB INSIDE AND 65 DB OUTSIDE. YOU AS AN AFICIONADO TO THE MUSIC KNOW WHAT THIS WILL MEAN, DO YOU SEE IT A FAIR MEASURE? Yes I still am a professional in music, at least in leisure time. The Town Halls do not make the laws, they are established by the Governments, in our case the central Government in Madrid and the Government of the Balearic islands in Mallorca which is the one of our autonomic Community. The town halls elaborate instructions for those laws, instructions that in no way can be less restrictive as the law. The instruction of the Town Hall in San José i don’t know, but I can talk about the one we have in Ibiza and I am pretty sure that it is very similar. If I take in consideration the instruction we have for the levels of decibels that you name in your question I say they are unreal and wrongly interpreted.

As you know I am engaged in music for many years and if you allow me I will try to explain what the acoustic zones mean and the level of decibels. The communities elaborate a noise map, means that there are established various zones with different levels of acoustic sensibility. It is not the same to be close to a hospital or a residency, or close to an urban core where the majority of buildings are residential than to be in Playa d’en Bossa. For every zone of acoustic sensibility there are established levels of decibels, but they are always levels of IMMISION, that means that it is not the sound that your soundsystem emits (DJ equipment, live music or whatever) but what is received. Included in these levels are interior and exterior ones, means it depends if you are inside your home or outside. Well, I don’t know if I expained myself too good, the question is that music in general is not prosecuted as much as some want to make us believe, only those who do not comply with orders that are established to protect the health of our citizens. The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends orders about acoustic contamination that are even more restrictive, so in my opinion we lack a lot of education to understand the graveness of this problem. The fact that we are a tourist destination where the music industry plays a capital factor can not be an excuse to play with the health of our residents. London and Berlin are as well cities where music plays a major role but it is prohibited that it sounds in the exterior of the venues. We have to find a way to keep enjoying music, even with elevated levels if we like it, but we have to respect the superior right to rest and to not suffer from the acoustic contamination of our citizens. I have assembled with the Association of Musicians of Ibiza and we will see if we find ways to ensure that we can keep having certain levels of live music outdoors apart from the ‚Café Conciertos’, but this is complicated if it’s not for the exceptions that are popular or puntual events. In any way, as I said to them as well, i am very open to keep exploring new ways. IT SEEMS LIKE SOME LAWS ARE MADE IN FAVOUR OF SOME AND AGAINST OTHERS, SHOULD IT NOT BE THE SAME LAWS FOR ALL? I do not agree with you, if you don’t specify more to what laws you referr and in what way it discriminates ones more than others i may not be able to answer you. If you refer to your previous question, if venues will be able to maintain having music at a high level or live music I can tell you that those venues invested a lot of money in sound insulation and that their existence does not discriminate the mayority that are the residents. I remember that in the late 80’s, when the clubs had to put a roof on and were not outdoors any more the world did not go down, quite the contrary, we even kept growing. I remember that in the mid 90’s, when the events and parties with outdoor music in protected natural areas were prohibited Ibiza did not go down as many predicted, quite the contrary, we still kept growing. If you want to have a space where out of proper intention somebody wants to enjoy live music or loud music it has to be furbished, i repeat that first of all the mayority has to be favoured, most important is the common good, and the common good in this case is the health of our citizens. We can not allow that our island is a place where music sounds at all hours in all places, it is certain that there are other sources of acoustic contamination, but these are regulated by those orders as well. 34

NEXT YEAR WE’LL HAVE ELECTIONS, HOW DO YOU SEE THE MANDATE OF YOUR PARTY WHICH IS NOT A PARTY BUT A GROUPING OF PEOPLE WITH THE SAME OBJECTIVES, DO YOU THINK YOU CAN GOVERN FOUR MORE YEARS? As you well know in the Town Hall in Ibiza there is a coalition between the socialist party and my party Guanyem (which in itself is a union of different parties at the left wing of the socialists) in power. Hopefully we can repeat in 2019 and I have hope that it will happen, but this is to decide by the citizens of Ibiza in May 2019. AND IF NOT, HOW DO YOU SEE YOUR FUTURE – WILL YOU GO BACK TO THE PLAYERS? I’VE READ THAT YOU HAD PROBLEMS FOR PLAYING FOR FREE (!) AT A VENUE WHILE BEING A POLITICIAN AND BY LAW YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO PRACTICE ANOTHER LABOUR... For sure i will go back to my profession if we are not elected, I keep being a DJ and i will be until the day i die. In reality i did not have any problem and i did not disobey any law. What the law does not allow if you are in entire work is to have another source of income. The Partido Popular intended to be demagogue with that case referring to a radio show that is aired weekly on Radio Illa Formentera, a show for what I certainly did not charge a Euro. IF YOU’D HAVE A MAGIC WAND AND COULD CHANGE FIVE THINGS INSTANTLY ON OUR LSIANDS, WHAT WOULD THEY BE? • An island 100% self sustainable with some valid politics against the climate change

• Access to homes at a reasonable price • Dignified labour conditions for all • A healthy environment without acoustic or mediambiental con tamination • Poverty and social exclusion at level 0 AND GLOBALLY? The same on a global level, adding a definite solution to the grave siauation of the refugees that allows them to keep being persons, and that the big players stop feeding wars for their proper interests and stop to exploit the natural resources of less favoured countries. HOLA JOAN, EL TIEMPO VUELA, ESTA ES YA LA CUARTA ENTREVISTA Y ES UN PLACER ENORME PODER CONTAR CONTIGO DE NUEVO EN ESTA EDICIÓN QUE SE DEDICA EN GRAN PARTE A NUESTRA ISLA Y LO QUE ESTÁ OCURRIENDO. PRIMERO UNA PREGUNTA MUY RECURRENTE, ¿SIGUES SIENDO LA PERSONA QUE HACE POLÍTICA, O ERES YA EL POLÍTICO QUE INTENTA SER PERSONA? Sigo siendo una persona que en este momento puntual de su vida se dedica al servicio público como político. Siempre somos antes personas que cualquier otra cosa. No conozco a ningún político extraterrestre, pero sí que es cierto que hay alguno que lleva tantos años dedicándose que es posible que ya no recuerde cuál era su vida antes de dedicarse a la política. Lo que considero que está sucediendo es que se está volviendo al estatus real que debe tener Ibiza al estabilizarse la situación política en muchos de esos lugares que durante esta serie de años no han tenido todo el turismo que digamos ‘les pertenecía’. Hemos tenido turismo ‘prestado’, gente cuyo primer destino no era venir a las Pitiusas.

Sigue existiendo un grave problema de oferta ilegal, las nuevas leyes aprobadas durante esta legislatura en el Govern de les Illes Baleares persiguen esta oferta ilegal y estoy convencido de que en unos años vamos a conseguir entre todos que esta disminuya significativamente, pero es complicado que este cambio se produzca todo lo rápido que a todos nos gustaría por diversas razones. Primero, porque las administraciones tenemos unas carencias de personal difíciles de cubrir, lo que provoca que nuestra capacidad inspectora se vea muy menguada, no tenemos capacidad para contratar más inspectores, por lo que se nos hace difícil perseguir esta oferta. Es como las normas de circulación, aunque limites la velocidad, si no tienes policía para que multe al que incumple las normas no vas a conseguir que muchos imprudentes dejen de circular a 150 por hora por la carretera. Luego esta también la cuestión de que el alquiler de vivienda a turistas es un negocio muy apetitoso, un negocio sobre el que han basado su economía muchas familias en Ibiza durante muchísimos años, va a costar que todas estas personas entiendan que la vivienda no puede ser (y menos todavía en lugares tan limitados de espacio como Ibiza y donde la problemática es tan grave) objeto de especulación. SAN JOSÉ ESTÁ POR INTRODUCIR UNA LEY QUE LIMITA EL VOLUMEN DE MÚSICA A 55 DB EXTERIOR Y 65 DB INTERIOR. TÚ COMO AFICIONADO A LA MÚSICA SABES LO QUE SIGNIFICA ESTO, ¿LO VES UNA MEDIDA JUSTA? Sigo siendo profesional de la música, en excedencia eso sí. Los Ayuntamientos no hacen las leyes, las leyes las hacen los Gobiernos, en nuestro caso el Gobierno central de Madrid y el Govern de las Illes Balears en Mallorca que es el de nuestra Comunidad Autónoma.

LOS HOTELEROS ADVIERTEN DE QUE LAS RESERVAS PARA JULIO Y AGOSTO ESTÁN MUY POR DEBAJO DEL AÑO PASADO Y QUE TENDRÁN QUE BAJAR LOS PRECIOS PARA PODER OCUPAR SUS ESTABLECIMIENTOS. A MÍ ME SUENA BIEN ESTO, ¿NO? Pienso que los hábitos de los viajeros están cambiando y que el hecho de que no hay un número elevado de reservas en este momento no significa que vaya a ser una mala temporada. No voy a entrar en si los precios de nuestra oferta son altos o bajos, o que es lo que más nos conviene.... bueno, sí... yo soy de la idea que necesitamos encontrar la manera de que nuestra isla no se sature como está sucediendo estos últimos años. Opino también que los que queremos una Ibiza sostenible hemos de empezar a perderle el miedo al concepto decrecimiento, somos una isla, y como isla nuestro espacio físico y nuestros recursos naturales son finitos, no podemos crecer eternamente, y según mi punto de vista ya hemos crecido demasiado. EN EL MISMO DIARIO HE LEÍDO QUE EL 40% DE LOS TURISTAS QUE LLEGAN VAN POR LA OFERTA ILEGAL DE ALOJAMIENTO, AUNQUE POR LO QUE YO VEO ESTA OFERTA SE HA REDUCIDO UN MONTÓN. ¿ALGO NO CUADRA? 18.1

Los Ayuntamientos elaboramos ordenanzas sobre esas leyes, ordenanzas que en ningún caso pueden ser menos restrictivas que la ley. La ordenanza del Ayuntamiento de Sant Josep no la conozco, pero te puedo hablar sobre la que tenemos en Ibiza, y estoy casi seguro que será casi idéntica. Tomado como ejemplo nuestra ordenanza, los números de decibelios que me planteas en tu pregunta no son reales y están mal planteados. Ya sabes que llevo muchos años en esto de la música y si me lo permites intentaré explicar un poco en qué consisten las zonas acústicas y los niveles de decibelios. Los municipios elaboran un mapa de ruidos, lo que significa que se establecen zonas con diferentes niveles de sensibilidad acústica. No es igual estar cerca de un hospital o una residencia, cerca de un núcleo urbano donde la mayoría de edificios son residenciales, que estar en Playa d’en Bossa. Para cada zona de sensibilidad acústica hay unos niveles de decibelios establecidos, pero son siempre niveles de INMISION, eso quiere decir que no es el sonido que emite tu fuente de sonido (equipo de DJ o de música en directo o lo que sea), si no lo que se recibe. Entre estos niveles también están los de interior y exterior, quiere decir que depende de si estás dentro de tu vivienda o fuera. Bien, no sé si me he explicado demasiado bien, la cuestión es que no se persigue la música como muchos demagógicamente nos quieren hacer ver, se persigue a los que no cumplen con unas ordenanzas que están hechas para proteger la salud de los ciudadanos. La Organización Mundial de la Salud recomienda ordenanzas todavía más restrictivas sobre la contaminación acústica, opino que nos falta mucha educación a todos para comprender la gravedad del problema. El hecho de que seamos una isla turística y donde el negocio de la música tiene una importancia capital no puede ser excusa para que juguemos con la salud de los residentes. Londres o Berlín también son ciudades donde la música tiene una importancia capital y no permiten que la música suene en el exterior de los locales. Hemos de buscar la manera para que podamos seguir disfrutando de la música, incluso a volúmenes elevados si así nos gusta, pero siempre respetando el derecho superior al descanso y a no sufrir la contaminación acústica de los ciudadanos. Yo me he reunido con la Asociación de Músicos de Ibiza y vamos a ver si se pueden encontrar vías para poder asegurar que se pueda seguir con ciertos niveles de música en vivo al aire libre fuera de los cafés conciertos, pero es complicado fuera de las excepciones que se establecen por las fiestas populares o eventos puntuales. De todas maneras, por mi parte, como ya les dije a ellos, estoy dispuesto a seguir explorando vías. PARECE QUE ALGUNAS LEYES SE ESTÁN DISEÑADO PARA FAVORECER A ALGUNOS Y PERJUDICAR A OTROS, ¿NO TENDRÍA QUE SER QUE TODA LEY ES PARA TODOS? No estoy de acuerdo contigo, si me especificas más a que ley te refieres y en qué sentido perjudica más a unos que a otros, puede que pueda contestarte. Si te refieres a la pregunta anterior, a los locales que sí van a poder seguir teniendo música con volumen o música en directo, decirte que estos locales han hecho una fuerte inversión en insonorización y que su existencia no perjudica a la mayoría, que son los residentes. Recuerdo a finales de los 80, cuando las discotecas de Ibiza tuvieron que cubrirse y dejaron de ser al aire libre, el mundo no se vino abajo, al contrario, todavía crecimos más. Recuerdo a mitad de los 90, cuando se prohibieron los eventos y las fiestas con música al aire libre en espacios 36

naturales, Ibiza no se hundió como muchos decían, al contrario, todavía crecimos más. Si se quiere tener un espacio donde por voluntad propia una persona quiera disfrutar de música en directo o música a volumen alto se tiene que acondicionar, repito, lo primero siempre es favorecer a la mayoría, lo primero es el bien común, y el bien común en este caso es la salud de los ciudadanos. No podemos permitir que nuestra isla sea un lugar donde suene música a todas horas y en todos los lugares, es cierto que hay otras fuentes de contaminación acústica, y la ordenanza también las regula. EL AÑO QUE VIENE HABRÁ ELECCIONES, ¿CÓMO VES EL MANDATO DE TU PARTIDO, QUE NO ES UN PARTIDO, PERO UNA AGRUPACIÓN DE GENTE CON LOS MISMOS OBJETIVOS? ¿CREES QUE PODRÍAIS GOBERNAR POR OTROS 4 AÑOS MÁS? Como bien sabes, en el Ayuntamiento de Ibiza gobierna una coalición entre el Partido Socialista y mi partido, Guanyem Eivissa (que a su vez es la unión de diversos partidos a la izquierda del Partido Socialista). Ojalá podamos repetir en el 2019 y tengo la esperanza de que así sea, pero eso lo decidirán los ciudadanos de Ibiza en mayo del 2019. Y SI NO, ¿CÓMO VES TU FUTURO – VOLVERÁS A LOS PLATOS? HE LEÍDO QUE TUVISTE PROBLEMAS POR EL HECHO DE QUE PINCHASTE GRATIS (!) EN UN LUGAR SIENDO POLÍTICO Y POR LEY NO PUEDES PRACTICAR OTRO OFICIO... Por supuesto que si no salgo elegido volveré a mi trabajo, yo sigo siendo dj y lo seré hasta el día de mi muerte. Realmente no tuve ningún problema ni incumplí ninguna ley. Lo que la ley no te permite si estás en ocupación plena es tener otra fuente de ingresos. El Partido Popular quiso hacer demagogia con el tema con respecto al programa de radio que semanalmente se emite en Radio Illa Formentera, programa por el que por supuesto no cobro ni un Euro. SI TUVIERAS UNA VARITA MÁGICA Y PUDIERAS CAMBIAR 5 COSAS EN LAS ISLAS AL INSTANTE, ¿CUÁLES SERÍAN? 1- Una isla 100% sostenible con unas políticas valientes contra el cambio climático. 2- Acceso a la vivienda a un precio razonable. 3- Condiciones laborales dignas para todos. 4-Un entorno saludable, sin contaminación medioambiental ni acústica. 5- Pobreza y exclusión social nivel 0. ¿Y GLOBALMENTE? Las mismas, a nivel mundial, añadiendo una solución definitiva a la grave situación de los refugiados, que les permita seguir siendo personas, que las grandes potencias dejen de alimentar guerras por sus propios intereses y que dejen de explotarse los recursos naturales de los países menos favorecidos. ¿JOAN RIBAS EN 20 AÑOS? Respondiendo a las preguntas que me harás para la revista DUB que seguirás editando en el 2038, seremos los dos 20 años menos jóvenes, pero con las mismas ganas y mucha más sabiduría. As my friend, mentor and colleague said so well in his Editor’s letter and managed to cut it down to less than 500 words let me cherish the moment and give you a bit more of insight to what is happening around us. So there is a law that restricts live music to be allowed in open spaces. Wait a moment, this sounds a bit like a law made out of hot air, because live music is what, music played live by one or various musicians? There was a discussion years ago initiated by Discjockeys versus the Spanish SGAE (same happened in other European countries as well) stating that a reinterpretation of an existing track by mixing various ones together and modulating the sounds is exactly the same, so to say it is to be considered live music. The reason behind this discussion was to find out if and how Djs should or not pay money to the SGAE for ‚performing existing music’. What has all this discussion brought to light? It might have very well paid off a bunch of lawyers but i don’t think that either artists or the SGAE gained a serious amount of money, as the reason for the SGAE to collect this money is for them to pay it back to the referring artists who produced the performed music – me personally i don’t know anyone who made money from ‚external public reproduction’, do you? Sounds all gibberish to you? So how does a law sound that prohibits live music in public spaces? It’s like telling us to accept seismic surveys to kill our mammals or to stop breathing fresh air by being sprayed, or to put a tax on the sun – oh sorry that craze has come to an end – for now. Going deeper into these new restrictions it really gets messy, the venues in the San José district might soon be obliged to install a limiter that regulates the volume to such extreme that it is literally impossible to have any decent music inside or outside. The limit for indoors would be 65 db – that is a bit more than a usual conversation between two persons – yes, TWO. So imagine a venue filled with people, only the noise they make would surpass this limit by far. Outdoors it gets even ‚better’, the limit here would be 55 db – as previously said nature itself can sometimes be a lot louder, if this is to be applied to a beach club the sea itself will be louder and the limiter will take off, leaving the venue with even less music. As they record the time the music is turned on and this recording can later be read out there is a fine for each time the limit is exceeded, so in case of the beach club who is to be fined, the sea? Honestly, if this is to be applied it would be better to declare Ibiza a silent island where we all sit around in circles, put flowers in our hair and whisper „hallelujah“ on our way to enlightenment because music is not welcome anymore. And all this for the mere reason that the neighbours of those venues can find their well-deserved rest after a hard labour day working in the tourist sector. Well, probably there won’t be any more labour as this island depends on this exact same tourism, and to think that we could solely live of families and nature lovers is as reasonable as to say Munich should ban the Octoberfest or Rio de Janeiro the Carnival. We all agree that there are too many people on the island and many venues do molest with their excessive music policy, but this black-or-white thinking is just so short-sighted and won’t do good to anybody. Obviously the clubs are spared from these 18.1

restrictions and should be more than happy with those new laws as they might think this will bring the people back, ignoring the fact that their totally overpriced drink policy might be the reason for people to think twice before spending a fortune for a few drinks. By the way, did you know that by law all establishments now have to give out free drinking water if you ask for it? This law is not new but is to be applied by all venues as from this year onwards, be it a café, restaurant, bar or club. So if you are e. g. into clubbing but can not spend your hard-earned money in a few drinks you can have a decent dance and stay well-hydrated. Now that is a wise one for a change! Another really crazy new law is the one that prohibits the copilot to be drunk, because he/she could interfere with the driver and cause an accident. Seriously, so now any drunk person has to go on the backseat - that would somehow make sense but what happens if four friends take a cab because they got drunk and do not want to drive a car themselves, which is obviously the right thing to do? Well, take two cabs then – problem solved. Somehow i got the feeling that all those laws are not made to educate us to become better citizens but to squeeze more money out of each one of us. Some of the circulation laws do make a lot of sense, e. g. if you get caught while throwing a fag out of the window you pay 200 Euros and get four points – fair enough as this damages our environment and is the cause of many fires. Talking about drunk tourists, i recently read that Ryanair made a petition to Spain to not sell alcohol at the airports anymore in order to control their citizens avoiding incidents where whole flights have to be redirected to closer airports caused by mayhem on board. Why not doing an alcohol test at the gate for those who obviously had a few drinks too much, and refuse to take them on board if they surpass a certain limit? End of story, problem solved. You might ask yourself why i called this article ‚seis my ass’ – well, let me explain it to you. As Andreas wrote in his Editor’s letter we once more face a serious threat to our nature with the project from ‚Med-Salt 2’ to explore the ground of the Mediterranean Sea (read more about it in our interview with Carlos Brava, technical coordinator of the Alianza Mar Blava) via seismic surveys using airguns to shoot air via high pressure into the deep sea, leaving all mammals and other creatures def and irritated with irreversible consequences. Seismic Surveys. Got it? We collected more than 35.000 signatures against this project and hope this one and all similar will be prohibited now and forever. The government of Ibiza already agreed on banning those surveys from our shores, now it is up to the Spanish government to once and for all put an end to this craze. We the citizens can not accept any laws that limit our roots or destroy our future, and one of our basic roots is music, the universal language, the heartbeat of this island and a good part of its future. And sorry to say that but all kind of music was once created ‚live’, so this can undoubtedly not be the solution to a problem that is created out of fear to face the reality, a reality that is as obvious as it can be. Greed has never solved any problem, it is not a solution but a disease, one of the roots of evil itself. Why i say greed? Because the few places that really offer live music on Ibiza are definitely not the cause of this problem, it is the failure of the current politics deceiving us from a general 40

virus that is threatening our society: the all-or-nothing attitude, an absolute way of thinking, treating the symptoms but not the cause, just as easy as to prohibit manifestations in order to silence the people and not having to listen to them. There is always a solution for all, in fact there are no problems but solutions to anything, it is the wrong way to ignore anything that will sooner or later cause trouble to then simply prohibit it. The magic of this island is based on its diversity, the combination of our beautiful nature with stunning beaches and great landscapes, the infrastructure of the island offering so many choices on so many different levels, be it gastronomical, nocturnal and cultural, the international mix of people of all kind coming together to celebrate life in a peaceful way on a relatively small island is unique on the globe, and it is up to us to find the balance to preserve this magic so that all of us can have the time of our life.

ACÚ MI CULO. Como mi amigo, mentor y colega bien ha dicho en su editorial y ha conseguido resumirlo en menos de 500 palabras, déjame disfrutar del momento y ayudarte a entender mejor lo que está sucediendo a nuestro alrededor. A ver, existe una ley que limita la música en directo, estando permitida en espacios abiertos. Pero, espera un momento, esto suena un poco a una ley hecha de pura palabrería, porque la música en vivo es ¿qué?, ¿música tocada en directo por uno o varios músicos? Hace algunos años hubo una discusión iniciada por los discjockeys vs. la SGAE española (lo mismo sucedió también en otros países europeos), que sostenía que una reinterpretación de un track existente al mezclar varios juntos y ajustar los sonidos es exactamente lo mismo, por lo que debe considerarse música en vivo. El motivo por detrás de esta discusión era descubrir si y cuándo los djs deberían darle o no dinero a la SGAE por ‘tocar música ya existente’. ¿Qué es lo que esta discusión puso de manifiesto? Es bien posible que haya recompensado extremadamente bien a un puñado de abogados, pero yo no creo que ni los artistas ni la SGAE hayan ganado una gran cantidad de dinero, ya que la razón de la SGAE para recolectar este dinero es para devolverlo a los referidos artistas que han producido la música reproducida – yo, personalmente, no conoco a nadie que haga dinero con ‘reproduccion pública externa’, ¿y tú? ¿Te suena todo a un montón de tonterías? Y¿cómo te suena una ley que prohibe la música en directo en espacios públicos? Es como pedirnos que aceptemos sondeos acústicos para matar a nuestros mamíferos o dejar de respirar aire fresco para ser pulverizado, o como ponerle un impuesto al sol -oh, lo siento, esta locura ya se ha terminado – por ahora. Cuando nos metemos más a fondo en estas nuevas restricciones todo se vuelve verdaderamente confuso; los recintos en el distrito de San José es posible que se vean pronto obligados a instalar un limitador que regule el volumen a tal extremo que será literalmente imposible tener cualquier música decente tanto dentro como fuera del local. El límite para el interior será de 65 db – eso es tan solo un poco más que una conversación normal entre dos personas – sí, DOS.

Ahora imagínate un recinto lleno de gente, tan solo el ruido que haga la gente sobrepasaría con creces el límite. Al aire libre la cosa se pone ‘aún mejor’, el límite aquí sería de 55 Db -como hemos dicho previamente la naturaleza misma puede en ocasiones ser mucho más ruidosa que eso, si esta ley debe aplicarse a un club de playa, el mar mismo sería mucho más ruidoso y el limitador se dispararía, dejando al local todavía con menos música. Ya que graban la hora a la que se pone la música y este registro puede leerse posteriormente, hay una multa por cada vez que se exceda el límite, así que en el caso de un club de playa, ¿a quién hay que multar? ¿al mar? Francamente, si esto ha de aplicarse, sería mejor declarar Ibiza la isla del silencio, donde todos nos sentamos en círculos, con flores en el pelo y susurramos „aleluya“ en nuestro camino a alcanzar la iluminación, porque la música ya no será bienvenida. Y todo esto simplemente para que los vecinos de estos locales puedan tener un buen y merecido descando después de un duro día de trabajo en el sector turístico. Bueno, probablemente no habrá más trabajo, ya que esta isla depende exactamente de este mismo turismo y pensar que podemos únicamente de familias y amantes de la naturaleza es tan razonable como decir que Múnich debería prohibir el Octoberfest o Río de Janeiro el Carnaval. Todos estamos de acuerdo en que hay demasiada gente en la isla y demasiados locales sí que molestan con su política de música excesiva, pero este pensamiento de blanco o negro simplemente no tiene ninguna visión de futuro y no le conviene a nadie. Obviamente los clubs no se verán sometidos a estas restricciones y deberían estar más que contentos con estas nuevas leyes, ya que deben creer que esto volverá a atraer a la gente a sus locales, ignorando el hecho de que su política de bebidas a precios extremadamente excesivos es posiblemente la razón por la que la gente se lo piense dos veces antes de gastarse una fortuna en un par de copas. Por cierto, ¿sabías que por ley todos los establecimientos tienen ahora que proporcionar agua gratis a quien la pida? Esta ley no es nueva, pero de este año en adelante, debe ser aplicada en todos los locales, ya sea una cafetería, un restaurante, bar o club. Así que, si por ejemplo estás de fiesta pero no puedes gastarte el dinero que tanto te ha costado ganar en unas cuantas copas, ahora puedes bailar a gusto y mantenerte bien hidratado. Vaya, esa sí es una ley con sentido ¡para variar! Otra ley sin sentido es la que prohibe que el copiloto vaya borracho, ya que podría interferir con el conductor y causar un accidente. En serio, así que ahora cualquier persona que esté borracha tiene que ir en el asiento de atrás -de algún modo eso podría tener sentido, pero ¿qué pasa si cuatro amigos cogen un taxi porque están borrachos y no quieren conducir, que claro está es justo lo que deberían hacer? Bueno, pues pillar dos taxis, está claro. De alguna manera, me parece a mí que estás leyes no están hechas para convertirnos en mejores ciudadanos, sino para exprimir más dinero de todos y cada uno de nosotros. Algunas de las leyes de circulación sí que tienen sentido; por ejemplo, si te pillan tirando una colilla por la ventanilla tienes que pagar una multa de 200 euros y pierdes cuatro puntos – me parece justo, ya que perjudica al medio ambiente y puede causar muchos incendios. 42

Hablando de turistas borrachos, he leído hace poco que Ryanair ha realizado una petición a España para que no siga vendiendo alcohol en los aeropuertos con el propósito de controlar a sus ciudadanos, evitando incidentes en los que vuelos enteros tienen que ser desviados a aeropuertos más cercanos a causa del caos a bordo. ¿Por qué no hacer un test de alcoholemia en la puerta de embarque a aquellos que obviamente se hayan tomado unas cuantas copas de más y negarse a dejarlos embarcar si sobrepasan cierto límite? Fin de la historia, asunto arreglado. Es posible que te estés preguntando por qué he titulado mi artículo ‘acú mi culo’ – bien, déjame que te lo explique. Como Andreas escribió en su editorial, una vez más nos enfrentamos a una seria amenaza contra nuestra naturaleza con el proyecto de ‘Med-Salt 2’ para explorar el fondo del mar Mediterráneo (puedes leer más acerca de esto en nuestra entrevista con Carlos Brava, coordinador técnico de la Alianza Mar Blava) mediante sondeos acústicos utilizando cañones de aire comprimido para lanzar aire a alta presión en las profundezas del mar, irritando con consecuencias irreversibles y dejando sordos a todos los mamíferos y otras criaturas marinas. Sondeos Acústicos, ¿lo pillas? Hemos recogido más de 35.000 firmas en contra de este proyecto y esperamos que este y todos los proyectos similares sean prohibidos de una vez y para siempre. El gobierno de Ibiza ha acordado ya prohibir este tipo de sondeo en nuestras costas, ahora le toca al gobierno español poner punto y final a esta locura de una vez para siempre. Nosotros, los ciudadanos, no podemos aceptar ninguna ley que limite nuestras raíces o destruya nuestro futuro, y una de nuestras raíces básicas es la música, el lenguaje universal, el motor de esta isla y una buena parte de su futuro. Y, me entristece decir esto, pero todo tipo de música fue en su día creada en ‘vivo’, por lo que, indudablemente, esta no puede ser la solución a un problema nacido de nuestro miedo a enfrentarnos a la realidad, una realidad que es tan evidente como podría serlo. La avaricia nunca ha solucionado ningún problema; no es una solución, si no una enfermedad, una de las raíces del mismísimo mal. ¿Por qué digo avaricia? Porque los pocos lugares en Ibiza que realmente ofrecen música en directo no son, sin duda, la causa de este problema; es el fracaso de la política actual engañándonos con ese virus general que está amenazando nuestra sociedad: la actitud del todo o nada, una manera de pensar absolutista, que trata los síntomas pero no la causa, igual de fácil que prohibir manifestaciones con el fin de silenciar a la gente y así no tener que escucharlos. Existe siempre una solución para todo, de hecho no hay problemas sino soluciones para todo; ignorar algo que tarde o temprano causará problemas para más tarde simplemente prohibirlo, no es la manera correcta de hacer las cosas. La magia de esta isla está basada en la diversidad, la combinación de nuestra belleza natural con deslumbrantes playas y magníficos paisajes, la infraestructura de la isla ofrece tantas opciones a tantos diferentes niveles, ya sea gastronómico, nocturno o cultural; la mezcla internacional de gente que se junta para celebrar la vida de una manera pacífica en una isla relativamente pequeña es algo único en el planeta y es nuestro deber alcanzar el equilibrio para conservar esta magia, para que todos nosotros podamos disfrutar como nunca.

WE SPEAK WITH CARLOS BRAVO, TECHINCAL COORDINATOR OF THE ALIANZA MAR BLAVA, ABOUT HIS WORK, THE ALLIANCE AND MORE. FIRST OF ALL CONGRATULATIONS FOR THE ACHIEVED, THE GOVERNMENT OF OUR ISLAND HAS EXPRESSED ITS DENIAL FOR THE PROJECT OF MED SALT-2. Thank you very much. This is, without any doubt, great news. On top we are very happy because last Friday 29th of June 2018 the royal decree of protection for the passage of migration of whales in the levantino-Balear zone has been approved as protected marine in the cabinet, just as we requested since mid 2015. This as well establishes the adoption of a form of preventive protection in this zone and its inclusion in the list of protected areas of special importance for the Mediterranean (the ZEPIM list) in the framework of the convention of Barcelona. WHAT IS YOUR WORK IN THE ALIANZA MAR BLAVA? I am the coordinator of the technical office of the Alliance. My functions consist in the internal and external coordination, the representation of the Alliance in different fora, consulting and tracking of administrative records of the projects of exploration in the different departments, the dispatch of expertises and alegations, elaboration and coordination of flyers, posters and other promotional and diffusive material, actualization of the homepage, realization of technical works, conferences and debates, the participation in events to sensibilize organized by third parties and finally the communication with media. IS IT CORRECT THAT YOU, ALONGSIDE OTHER 120 MEMBERS, DO YOUR WORK FOR THE ALLIANCE IN YOUR FREE TIME? AND WHAT IS YOUR REGULAR JOB? The Alianza Mar Blava is an intersectoral platform with the mission to reinforce the protection of the Mediterranean Sea, to end the threat to our economy and environment that are the projects of oil prospections that are currently in execution to reach a better sustainability of our energetic system. Born in Ibiza and Formentera in May 2013, it actually consits of more than 120 members from public administrations (Balearic Government, regional parliaments of Ibiza and Formentera, Ibiza, Menorca and Mallorca, different Town Halls of the islands and Barcelona) as well as private ones (entities from the economic sectors of tourism, fishery and navigation) and the civil society (social and ecologic organizations, sindicates and other public and private institutions). To enable its operation in a constant and stable way and to ensure that the activities forming part of the plan of action approved every year in the general assembly are effectively executed, the Alliance decided from the very beginning to introduce a technical secretary, actually consisting of two persons that work partially for remuneration. I am a specialized consultor in environmental issues and the great mayority of my time is dedicated to the professional work i do for the Alianza Mar Blava. 18.1

WHAT IS MEDSALT-2 EXACTLY, OR BETTER SAID WHAT BENEFITS WILL THEY HAVE FROM THEIR RESEARCH? WE HEARD THEY TRIED TO EXECUTE A SIMILAR PROJECT IN ITALY AND IT GOT REJECTED AS WELL, IN FACT THIS TYPE OF PROSPECTIONS IS PROHIBITED IN ITALY. The official denomination is “Uncovering the Mediterranean Salt Giant (MEDSALT-2)” being a project of acoustic surveys with the dangerous technique of using airguns with high pressured air, to be used in the marine section between Ibiza and Mallorca and at the southeast of Ibiza and Formentera, both being of huge environmental importance. The environmental impact of these acoustic surveys with airguns is critical and unacceptable. This technique is very banging for living beings for the enormous level of acoustic submarine contamination it generates, and, as scientifcally proven, provokes very negative effects on the marine fauna, especially for whales (including the deep diving ones such as pot whales, goose beaked whales and pilot whales), but as well for turtles, birds, invertebrates, lots of them being protected by the present legislation. The correct and preventive measures made to avoid or reduce affections are not efficient nor, in most cases, realistic. The environmental impact of this project would be critical and inevitable. In fact, the ministry of Agriculture, alimentation and Environment did emit a resolution refusing the solicited simplified declaration by the promoter of this project (the OGS, Instituto Nazionale di Oceanografía e di Geofisica Sperimentale de Trieste, Italia). This ministerial resolution reasoned the refuse in stating that the project Medsalt-2 could produce significant adversive impacts on the environment. Nonetheless and surprisingly on April 21st the ministry of exterior affairs and cooperation, on petition of the Italian embassy, 46

did reactivate the adaption of the Medsalt-2 project, this time as for a proceeding to be evaluated an ordinary environmental valuation. The supposed reason for this project is to acquire geophysical data about the section on the south of the Baelaric Islands with the objective, so they say, to understand the formation, cause, cronology, mechanisms of process and consequences of the youngest giant salt deposit on earth: the salt layer of the superior Miocene in the Mediterranean Basin. Despite its scientific appearance, the Alliance is aware and holds effective proof of the enmeshment of the project Medsalt-2 with the interest of the petrol industry, for the possibility to open ways at short term for the exploration of fossil fuels in the area. It is a popular interest of the petrol and gas industry in our geological formations to get to find great deposits of fossil fuels. This connection is abundantely evidenced in the document “Memorandum of Understanding for the implementation of the COST Action - Uncovering the Mediterranean salt giant” (MEDSALT) CA15103”, which is the base of the Medsalt/Cost project (COST Action CA15103). In the point 2.2.1 one can find very revealing phrases: 2.2.1 plan to include the most relevant partners: “(...) included in the final users of the project (COST/MEDSALT) is the gas / petrol industry”. “(...) seven companies of the petrol and gas sector and companies of active petrol services in the Mediterranean did express their interest in the project in written form. (...)”

As clear as water, but there are many more citations. In its introduction it is said about the objective of the project (investigating the deposits of deep salt in the Mediterranean): “It’s an opportunity for the scientific community to share objectives, data, experience and tools with the industry as there exists a considerable interest in the exploitation of petrol and gas (...), pointing at the deep salt deposits of the Mediterranean”. There are many more references for it in the document. Another revealing one in the point 2.1.1, where one can read: “At short term the action (COST/Medsalt) will push the industrial exploitation of fossil fuel reserves in the sensible ambient that is the Mediterranean Sea”. From our point of view this project, if effected, will not achieve any benefit, only grave mediambiental damage to the marine fauna and fishery, and would open doors to the threat of projects dedicated to the exploitation of fossil fuels and other mineral resources, being disastrous for the environment and economy of the whole area. I’VE NEVER HEARD OF COMPANIES THAT STUDY THE SALT LAYER ON THE GROUND OF THE SEA TO GET RESULTS ABOUT THE FORMATION AND HISTORY OF IT... IS THIS A COMMON TECHNIQUE OR JUST A CAMOUFLAGE? As we said before, it seems undeniable that this project is some kind of Trojan horse of the petrol industry, a camouflage with a scientific aspect to be able to hypocritically effect the geophysical surveys that for the moment could not be executed in a direct way due to the social and institutional opposition against their projects in the Balearic Islands and other autonomous communities of the Mediterranean basin. Even if they would achieve to retrieve geological data of the salt crisis of the Messinian that occurred 5 million years ago, which is without any doubt of no significant scietific value on an international level and even of less realistic interest of our society. It might not be a casualty that the surface of the marine underground to be prospected with this project MedSalt-2 overlays significantly with the zone south of the area of prospections odf fossil fuels that the Spectrum Geo Limited company had planned in its campaign of seismic acquisition in the Baearic Sea, a project that we already managed to archive. It is known that the petrol and gas industry is trying for years to obtain authorisation to effect prospections of fossil fuels in the waters that surround the Balearic islands. But, since approximately five years, they find themselves conjoined with an enormous social, institutional and political opposition to their propositions. As in 2013 the Alianza Mar Blava was founded we managed to archive projects from Cairn Energy in the golf of Valencia (in 2015), another one from Services Petroliers Schlumberger in the golf of León (in 2016) and the already mentioned from Spectrum Geo Limited in the Balearic sea (in 2017). WITH THE POLITICAL CHANGE THAT IS HAPPENING IN SPAIN DO YOU THINK THAT THERE ARE BETTER TIMES TO COME TO PROTECT OUR RESOURCES AND OUR BIGGEST TREASURE THAT IS NATURE? The new government of Pedro Sanchez has created the ministry for ecological transition that groups the competences of

energy and environment and its public officer, Teresa Ribera, a great connaisseur and expert in the climate change topic, has pledged to dedicately fight the climate challenge and to open ways towards a denuclearization and decarbonization of our economy, basing our energetic system in the reduction and energetic efficiency towards renewable energies. That implies to take important decisions, including the one that we demand: a law to prohibit activities for exploration and exploitation of fossil fuels and other mineral resources in the waters that are under Spanish jurisdiction. To accomplish this law in Spain is totally feasible. It has been done in other parts. In December last year France became the first country in the world to prohibit by law the production of hidrocarburates in their entire territory. The french law prohibits the consent of any new license to explore fossil fuels in whatever way. The exploitations that are actually in being will be eliminated so that when its concessional period is terminated that, by the year 2040, the extraction of fossil fuels will be totally terminated in all French territory, be it in the sea or on firm ground. Since then other countries have advanced significantly in the same direction. As since the last month of February the Irish Parliament approved a law proposition for “urgent climate measures” including the Government to not be able to concede new authorizations for exploration of petrol and gas in the sea. Already in 2017 Ireland decreed a law to prohibit hydraulic fractioning (fracking) on their ground. Last 12th of April the prime minister of New Zealand, Jacinda Ardern, announced that her country has prohibited the realization of nex explorations of petrol and gas in the waters on the high sea under her jurisdiction (the exclusive economic zone of New Zealand is the fourth biggest on the planet). This is one of the measures included in the plan of the Government of New Zealand to transit towards a model of sustainable energies, with its primal objective to achieve that the generation of electricity will be 100% renewable in 2035 and to create a totally decarbonized economy in the year 2050. SO THERE IS A WAY TO PROHIBIT ONCE AND FOR ALL ANY PROJECT THAT USES HARMFUL TECHNIQUES TO OUR NATURE? On January 13th of 2017 an act of direct democracy took place in the Parliament Balear, charged with great symbolism, where a transmission for a proposition of law was concreted to protect the Mediterranean Sea under Spanish jurisdiction against the threat of fossil fuel prospections and other mineral resources, from the Balearic society. Represented in this case by the Alianza Mar Blava in the parliament which is, as the proper statute of the autonomy of the islands specifies, the representation of the Balearic village. The proposition of law that the Alliance, together with the Council of environment, agriculture and fishery of the Balearic Government, has presented and submitted to all political parties in the Balearic Parliament, is structured in one single article, an additional disposition as well as transitory one.

The climate change is, without any doubt, the most frightening of all, knowing that it has the potential to provoke catastrophic changes that can put in danger the survival of numerous species, including our very own.

Likewise the exploration via seismic adquisitions with whatever purpose will be excluded, except the case where it is scientifically proven that the techniques used are totally inoffensive for the marine sector.

Well, sometimes i doubt that we finally won’t be so stupid as to not react in time regarding this problem. The technical solutions to achieve it are existant, the question is to achieve to finally end the political irresponsability of rulers that only opt to satisfy the interests of the lobbyists of dirty energies, like the last ministers of energy we had to tolerate in Spain or, on an international level, the President of the United States of America, Donald Trump. Society is in a process of awakening even faster every time and i believe that the necessary reaction will be applied. What is actually true is the fact that the later we react and the more we resist in starting to apply the ecological transition of our economy, the more painful (and more expensive in economic terms) it will be to overcome this global crisis.

The additional disposition specifies that the exploitation of fossil fuels which concession is anterior to its entry in vigor included in this law will maintain in effect until its extinction without any possibility of prolongation in any way. In the meantime, the transitory disposition underlines that this law is applicable to all the solicitations of exploration, investigation and exploitation of fossil fuels or seismic adquisitions in transmission that have not been resolved at the entry in vigor of this law. This proposition of law managed to get a conjoint support of all political forces represented in the Balearic Parliament. After its aprobation in April of 2017, the proposition of law was sent to the Congress of Deputies due to the fact that the topic that matters is of State competence but, unfortunately, in June 2017 the Government voted its implementation, administering a study of the Ministry of energy (MINETAD) caressing of any fundament and, on top, anonimous. This study of veto did not demonstrate, because it would have been impossible to do so, that the cited proposition of law would affect the general budget in vigor the same year (that is the only and real motive where the Government could have vetoed in a justified way). Nonetheless, the veto was supported by the representatives of the parliamental groups of Popular and Ciudadanos in the Congress, in a way that the initiative could not be executed. In present, after the consentaneous decree of the Constitutional court of last 12th of April, the Congress has to resolve the annihilation of the veto to this proposition of law, in the same way as for many other initiatives that the Government approved without any “real and according justification”. On top, the Balearic Parliament returned to approve in June 27th 2018, once more in unanimity, the very same proposition of law elaborated by the Alianza Mar Blava, which will be once more emitted to the Congress for its handling. In this case it will not be subject to veto by the Government of Perdo Sanchez so it has a chance to be discussed and we believe it could be approved with a great majority in the chamber, even if we will do everything possible that it will be consentaneous. TO DO THE JOB YOU DO YOU HAVE TO BE VERY STRONG, ARE YOU AN OPTIMIST? Yes, I am an optimist person, even more being totally conscious about the severe environmental and social-economic problems that we are facing. 48

I consdider that the Alianza Mar Blava is a good and practical example of how to advance in the solution of these problems. The Alliance shows, since its creation in 2013, that the unity of all sectors of society (public administration, private sector and civil society), working together based on consent, is able to achieve huge success and can transform our reality for the better. TWO YEARS AGO A STUDY WAS ELABORATED THAT THE BENEFITS RESULTING FROM THE EXPLOITATION OF FOSSIL FUELS THAT CAN BE STORED UNDER OUR SEAS WILL ONLY COVER A TINY PART OF THE HARM THIS EXACT EXPLOITATION WOULD PRODUCE. HOW CAN ANYBODY STILL TRY TO EXTRACT THE LAST DROPS KNOWING THAT IT DESTROYS OUR FUTURE? The approximation towards fossil fuels that has dominated the 20st century has been overcome by the insight and the responsibility that comes from the society towards the laws in a slow but adamant way. in this sense it is not coherent to explore or investigate new resources of fossil fuels when the scientific community, reunited in the Intergovernmental panel for Climatic Change of the United Nations as well as the International Agency of Energy and many other institutions, have manifested that if we want to avoid the effects of a climate change on a big scale we have to stop burning big parts of the spendable reserves of fossil fuels to not increase in an irreversible manner the emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2), being the main gas responsible for the global warming of our planet. Science has proven that, if we want to avoid a climate change at global scale we have to stop burning a big part of the reserves of our available fossil fuels. Facing this evidence, what sense has it to keep looking for new resources of fossil fuels? None. We have to leave behind as soon as possible the era of fossil fuels and move towards the urgent transition to a new model of energy being more efficient, more intelligent and definitely 100% renewable.

TO PEOPLE THAT TELL ME THAT WE ARE HIPOCRITES BECAUSE WE STILL USE ENGINES THAT BURN FUEL WHILE WE FIGHT TO STOP THE PROSPECTIONS IN OUR SEAS I ALWAYS ANSWER THE SAME, EACH ONE HAS TO DO WHAT ONE CAN DO, FOLLOWING THE SLOGAN ‘THINK GLOBAL, ACT LOCAL’. DO YOU AGREE? Absolutely. People that express these acusations without any reason don’t know what they talk about or hide disgraceful interests. The energetic transition is not done from one day to the other, it definitely takes time and we intent it to be as short as possible, but it has to come from within, changing the absurd actual energetic system totally dependend on dirty energies, towards an intelligent one, efficient and 100% renewable. And this is done through changing the laws, apart from the attitudes. WHAT CAN EACH CITIZEN DO TO IMPROVE THE LIFE OF ALL LIVING BEINGS? We have to be informed, commited and active citizens. The ignorance of problems, pandered by the ones who want to maintain the unacceptable actual status quo, avoids that the citizen can be informed adecuately about them, and can therefore react actively and efficiently. Neither can one unite with others to fight for the same cause. The union makes the force. That is fundamental. Once the objective that needs to be achieved is decided the appropriate actions have to be taken that will take us to accomplish its compliance. WILL IT BE POSSIBLE TO DECLARE BY LAW THE MEDITERRANEAN SEA UNDER SPANISH JURISDICTION AN AREA FREE OF FOSSIL FUEL PROSPECTIONS? AND FURTHERMORE THE WHOLE MEDITERRANEAN UP TO THE MOMENT WHEN ALL SEAS ARE FREE OF IT? Definitely yes, as we said before, this is our objective. And I believe we can achieve it in quite a short time. France and New Zealand already have laws in place in that sense, Ireland will do so soon. And all other countries will follow. We will be testimony of this flaw to disappear progressively from our seas. Do you believe that Ibiza will be one day a ‘green’ island, means free of emissions and 100% sustainable? And if so when do you think this will be possible? Without any doubt we will achieve it, I mean we don’t have another choice anyway if we want to ensure our wellbeing. The amount of time to get there will depend in big parts of the mobilisation of the society, understood in its most ample sense, to demand the aplication and execution of legal, economical, financial, technical and more measures from our rulers. So that they allow to establish, in the least time possible, a new and efficient energetic model that is intelligent and 100% renewable. In that sense it needs to be said that the Advisor of territory, energy and mobilisation of the Balearic Government elaborated a pre-project to a law for the climate change and energetic transition. It’s a law with very ambitious objectives regarding the reduction of CO2 emissions and the decarbonization of the Balearic energetic system which is actually very dependend on fossil fuels. 50

All the intended measures in the cited law will permit, as the Balearic Government announced, a reduction of 40% of the CO2 emissions by 2030 and of 90% by 2050. But to get there and even further, we from the Alianza Mar Blava understand that is is necessary to get the normative actions on their way with an ample social, corporate and political consense in a way that they can be applied in an efficient way at short, mid and long term. That would be the case with this law for climate change and energetic transition that, if achieved in this very legislation, needs to be developed and applied without incidents nor fright, not only in the next legislation but in a timespan of minimum two decades. That means that this law, if to be beneficial, needs to achieve to be bailed by an immense majority of the civil society, the private sector and the public administrations of the Balearic islands and that therefore could be considered a Balearic law and not a law of a certain Government. We are at a crucial moment that we should not let pass by if we take the problematic climate change seriously. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS CARLOS, AND EVEN MORE FOR THE WORK YOU DO, WE WILL KEEP FIGHTING WHEREVER WE CAN TO PRESERVE THIS PLANET FOR OUR CHILDREN AND ALL LIVING BEINGS.

ANTES DE NADA, ENHORABUENA POR LO CONSEGUIDO, YA QUE EL GOVERN INSULAR HA EXPRESADO SU RECHAZO AL PROYECTO DE MED SALT-2. Muchas gracias. Esa es, sin duda, una buena noticia. Pero además, estamos muy contentos porque el pasado viernes 29 de junio de 2018, se ha aprobado, en Consejo de Ministros, tal y como veníamos solicitando desde mediados de 2015, el Real Decreto de protección del Corredor de Migración de Cetáceos de la demarcación marina levantino-balear como Área Marina Protegida, el cual establece además la adopción de un régimen de protección preventiva en esa zona y su inclusión dentro de la lista de Zonas Especialmente Protegidas de Importancia para el Mediterráneo (Lista ZEPIM) en el marco del Convenio de Barcelona. ¿CUÁL ES TU TRABAJO DENTRO DE LA ALIANZA? Soy el Coordinador del Secretariado Técnico de la Alianza. Las funciones de este puesto abarcan: la coordinación interna y externa de la Alianza; la representación de la Alianza en diferentes foros; la consulta y seguimiento de los expedientes administrativos de los proyectos de prospecciones en los diferentes ministerios; la redacción de informes y alegaciones; la elaboración y coordinación de la realización de folletos, carteles y otros materiales informativos y divulgativos; la actualización de la página web; la realización de jornadas técnicas, conferencias y debates; la participación en eventos de sensibilización organizados por terceros;la información a los medios de comunicación.

¿ES CORRECTO QUE TÚ COLABORAS CON LA ALIANZA, COMO UNOS 120 OTROS MIEMBROS, EN TU TIEMPO LIBRE? Y ¿CUÁL ES TU TRABAJO HABITUAL? La Alianza Mar Blava es una plataforma intersectorial cuya misión es incrementar la protección del mar Mediterráneo, acabar con la amenaza a nuestra economía y al medio ambiente que suponen los proyectos de prospecciones petrolíferas actualmente en tramitación, y avanzar hacia una mayor sostenibilidad de nuestro sistema energético. Nacida en Ibiza y Formentera en mayo de 2013, actualmente está constituida por más de 120 miembros tanto de las Administraciones públicas (Govern balear, Consells insulares de Formentera, Ibiza, Menorca y Mallorca, diversos ayuntamientos de estas islas y el Ayuntamiento de Barcelona) como del sector privado (entidades de sectores económicos como el turismo, la pesca o el náutico) y de la sociedad civil (organizaciones sociales y ecologistas; sindicatos y otras instituciones públicas y privadas). Para posibilitar su funcionamiento de forma constante y estable y asegurar que se ejecutan eficazmente las actividades que forman parte del Plan de Acción anual que se aprueba cada año en la Asamblea General correspondiente, la Alianza decidió desde un principio dotarse de un Secretariado Técnico, actualmente compuesto de dos personas, que trabajan, a tiempo parcial, de forma remunerada para ella.

Pese a ello, sorpresivamente, el pasado 21 de abril el Ministerio de Asuntos Exteriores y Cooperación, a petición de la embajada de Italia, reactivó la tramitación del proyecto MEDSALT-2, esta vez por el procedimiento de evaluación ambiental ordinaria. La supuesta finalidad de este proyecto es adquirir datos geofísicos en el margen sur de las Islas Baleares, con el objetivo, dicen, de comprender la formación, causas, cronología, mecanismos de desarrollo, y consecuencias del depósito salino gigante más joven de la Tierra: la capa de sal del Mioceno superior en la cuenca Mediterránea.

Soy consultor especializado en temas de medio ambiente y la inmensa mayoría de mi tiempo está dedicada al trabajo profesional que hago para la Alianza Mar Blava.

Pese a su apariencia científica, la Alianza Mar Blava es conocedora, y dispone de pruebas al efecto, de la vinculación del proyecto MEDSALT-2 con los intereses de la industria petrolera, por las posibilidades que les abre a corto plazo para la exploración de hidrocarburos en la zona. Es de sobra conocido el interés de la industria del petróleo y el gas por estas formaciones geológicas salinas, por existir en ellos la posibilidad de encontrar importantes bolsas de hidrocarburos.

¿QUÉ ES EXACTAMENTE MEDSALT-2? O SEA, ¿QUÉ RESULTADOS O BENEFICIOS TENDRÁ DE SUS ACCIONES? HEMOS OÍDO QUE EN ITALIA INTENTABAN HACER UN PROYECTO SIMILAR Y SE LES HA NEGADO TAMBIÉN; DE HECHO, ESTE TIPO DE PROSPECCIONES ESTÁ PROHIBIDO EN ITALIA.

Esta vinculación queda evidenciada abundantemente en el documento “Memorandum of Understanding for the implementation of the COST Action “Uncovering the Mediterranean salt giant” (MEDSALT) CA15103”, que es la base del proyecto COST/ MEDSALT (COST Action CA15103).

Denominado oficialmente “Uncovering the Mediterranean Salt Giant (MEDSALT-2)” es un proyecto de sondeos acústicos con la peligrosa técnica de cañones de aire comprimido de alta presión (airguns), planteado en el área marina comprendida entre las islas de Ibiza y Mallorca y al sureste de Ibiza y Formentera, de gran importancia medioambiental.

Así, en el punto 2.2.1 (pág. 9 del documento) se encuentran varias frases muy reveladoras:

El impacto medioambiental de los sondeos acústicos con airguns es crítico e inasumible. Esta técnica es muy impactante para los seres vivos por el enorme nivel de contaminación acústica submarina que genera, y que, como se ha demostrado científicamente, provoca efectos muy negativos para la fauna marina, especialmente a los cetáceos (incluyendo a los de buceo profundo como los cachalotes, zifios y calderones), pero también a tortugas, aves, invertebrados, así como especies de peces de interés comercial. Así pues, la realización de este proyecto afectaría muy negativamente a la supervivencia de numerosas especies marinas de cetáceos, tortugas, peces, aves e invertebrados, muchas de ellas estrictamente protegidas por la legislación vigente. 52

Las medidas correctoras y preventivas de cara a evitar o reducir afecciones no son eficaces ni, en muchos casos, realistas. El impacto ambiental de este proyecto sería crítico e inevitable. De hecho, el Ministerio de Agricultura, Alimentación y Medio Ambiente emitió una Resolución (publicada en el BOE del 17 de agosto de 2016) denegando la declaración de impacto ambiental simplificada solicitada por el promotor del proyecto (el OGS, Instituto Nazionale di Oceanografía e di Geofisica Sperimentale de Trieste, Italia). Esta Resolución ministerial motivaba esa negativa en que el proyecto MEDSALT-2 podría producir impactos adversos significativos en el medio ambiente.

«2.2.1. Plan para involucrar a los socios más relevantes. “(…) entre los usuarios finales de la Acción [COST/MEDSALT] se incluyen la industria del petróleo y el gas”. “(….) Siete compañías del sector del petróleo y del gas y de compañías de servicios petroleros activas en el Mediterráneo han expresado de forma escrita su interés en la Acción [COST/ MEDSALT]. (…)” Más claro agua, pero hay muchas citas más. En su Introducción (página 3 del documento) se dice sobre el objetivo del proyecto (investigar los depósitos de sal profundos del Mediterráneo): “Es una oportunidad para que la comunidad científica comparta objetivos, datos, experiencia y herramientas con la industria ya que existe un considerable interés en la exploración de petróleo y gas (…), apuntando a los depósitos de sal profundos del Mediterráneo”.

Hay otras muchas referencias al respecto en ese documento. Otra, igualmente relevante, en el punto 2.1.1 (pág. 8 del documento), donde se puede leer: “En el corto plazo, la Acción [COST/MEDSALT] impulsará la exploración industrial de recursos de hidrocarburos en el sensible ambiente del mar Mediterráneo”.

descarbonización de nuestra economía, y basar nuestro sistema energético en el ahorro y la eficiencia energética y las energías renovables. Eso implica tomar muchas medidas importantes, entre ellas la que estamos pidiendo: una Ley para prohibir las actividades de exploración y explotación de hidrocarburos y otros recursos minerales en las aguas bajo jurisdicción española.

Desde nuestro punto de vista, este proyecto, de llevarse a cabo, no traería ningún beneficio, solo graves perjuicios mediambientales a la fauna marina y a la pesca, y, abriría la puerta a la amenaza de proyectos de explotación de hidrocarburos y de otros recursos minerales, lo que sería nefasto para el medio ambiente y la economía de toda esta zona.

Conseguir esa Ley en España es algo totalmente factible. Ya se ha hecho en otras partes. En diciembre del año pasado Francia se convirtió en el primer país del mundo en prohibir por ley la producción de hidrocarburos en todo su territorio. La ley francesa prohíbe el otorgamiento de cualquier nueva licencia de exploración de hidrocarburos por el método que sea. Las explotaciones actualmente vigentes se irán eliminando a medida que acabe su periodo concesional de manera que para el año 2040 habrá terminado totalmente la extracción de hidrocarburos en todo el ámbito territorial francés, tanto en el mar como en tierra firme.

NUNCA HE OÍDO DE EMPRESAS QUE ESTUDIAN LA CAPA DE SAL DEL FONDO DE LOS MARES CON FINES DE AVERIGUAR LA GESTACIÓN Y HISTORIA DEL MISMO… ¿ES UNA TÉCNICA COMÚN? ¿O ES UNA TAPADERA? Como decíamos antes, parece innegable que este proyecto es una especie de Caballo de Troya de la industria petrolera, una tapadera de aspecto científico para hacer disimuladamente los sondeos geofísicos que de momento las empresas del sector petrolero no han podido llevar a cabo directamente dada la oposición social e institucional surgida ante sus proyectos en las Islas Baleares y otras comunidades autónomas de la cuenca mediterránea. Ello al margen de que pudieran conseguirse ciertos datos geológicos sobre la crisis salina del Messiniense, que ocurrió hace 5 millones de años, lo que sin duda no es ninguna prioridad cientifica a nivel internacional y mucho menos algo de interés real para la sociedad. Quizá no sea casual que la superficie del subsuelo marino a prospectar con este proyecto MEDSALT-2 se solape de forma significativa con la zona sur del área de prospecciones de hidrocarburos que planteó la compañía Spectrum Geo Limited en su campaña de adquisición sísmica en el mar Balear, proyecto que ya hemos logrado archivar. Es conocido que la industria del petróleo y del gas lleva años intentando obtener autorización para hacer prospecciones de hidrocarburos en las aguas que rodean a las islas Baleares. Pero, desde hace un lustro, se ha topado con una enorme oposición social, institucional y política a sus propósitos. Así, desde que en 2013 se creó la Alianza Mar Blava se ha logrado el archivo del proyecto de la compañía Cairn Energy en el golfo de Valencia (en 2015), el de Services Petroliers Schlumberger en el golfo de León (en 2016) y el ya citado de Spectrum Geo Limited en el mar Balear (en 2017). CON EL CAMBIO POLÍTICO QUE ESTÁ OCURRIENDO EN ESPAÑA, ¿TÚ CREES QUE VIENEN TIEMPOS MEJORES PARA LA PROTECCIÓN DE NUESTROS RECURSOS Y EL TESORO MÁS GRANDE QUE ES LA NATURALEZA? El nuevo Gobierno de Pedro Sánchez ha creado el ministerio para la Transición Ecológica, que agrupa las competencias de Energía y de Medio Ambiente y cuya titular, Teresa Ribera, una gran conocedora y experta en el tema del Cambio Climático, se ha comprometido a hacer frente de forma decidida al desafío climático y emprender el camino hacia la desnuclearizaciñon y

Desde entonces otros países han dado pasos importantes en la misma dirección. Así, el pasado mes de febrero, el Parlamento irlandés aprobó una Proposición de Ley sobre “Medidas de Emergencia Climáticas” que incluye que el gobierno no podrá conceder nuevas autorizaciones para la exploración de petróleo y gas en el mar. Ya en 2017 Irlanda promulgó una ley que prohíbe el fraccionamiento hidráulico (fracking) en tierra firme. El pasado 12 de abril, la primera ministra de Nueva Zelanda, Jacinda Ardern, anunció que su país ha prohibido la realización de nuevas exploraciones de petróleo y gas en las aguas bajo su jurisdicción de alta mar (la Zona Económica Exclusiva de Nueva Zelanda es la cuarta más grande del planeta). Esta es una de las medidas dentro del plan del Gobierno neozelandés de transitar hacia un modelo energético sostenible, el cual tiene como principales objetivos conseguir que la generación de electricidad sea 100% renovable en 2035 y lograr una economía totalmente descarbonizada en el año 2050. ¿HAY MANERA DE PROHIBIR DE UNA VEZ POR TODAS CUALQUIER PROYECTO QUE USA TÉCNICAS DAÑINAS A NUESTRA NATURALEZA? El 13 de enero de 2017 tuvo lugar en el Parlament balear un acto de democracia directa cargado de gran simbolismo pues en él se concretó la transmisión de una Proposición de Ley para proteger el mar Mediterráneo bajo jurisdicción española frente a la amenaza de las prospecciones de hidrocarburos y otros recursos minerales, desde la sociedad balear, representada en este caso por la Alianza Mar Blava, al Parlament, el cual es, como especifica el propio Estatuto de Autonomía de las islas, la representación del pueblo de Baleares. La Proposición de Ley que la Alianza, junto a la Consejería de Medio Ambiente, Agricultura y Pesca del Govern balear, presentó y entregó a todos los grupos políticos del Parlament balear, se estructura en un único artículo, una disposición adicional y una disposición transitoria. Dicho artículo establece que quedará excluida la exploración, investigación y explotación de hidrocarburos, u otras sustancias minerales, en el medio marino del mar Mediterráneo sobre el que España tenga jurisdicción. 18.1

Igualmente quedará excluido de este espacio marino la exploración a través de adquisiciones sísmicas sea cual sea su finalidad, excepto en el caso de que esté científicamente demostrado que utilizan tecnologías completamente inocuas para el medio marino. La disposición adicional especifica que las explotaciones de hidrocarburos comprendidas en esta ley cuya concesión sea anterior a su entrada en vigor, permanecerán vigentes hasta su extinción sin que se puedan otorgar prórrogas de ningún tipo. Mientras tanto, la disposición transitoria subraya que la ley será aplicable a todas aquellas solicitudes de exploración, investigación y explotación de hidrocarburos o de adquisiciones sísmicas en tramitación que no hayan sido resueltas a la entrada en vigor de esta Ley. Esta Proposición de Ley obtuvo un respaldo unánime de todos las fuerzas políticas representadas en el Parlament balear. Tras su aprobación en abril de 2017, la Proposición de Ley fue enviada al Congreso de los Diputados dado que la materia sobre la que versa es de competencia del Estado pero, lamentablemente en junio de 2017 el Gobierno vetó en la Mesa del Congreso su tramitación, aportando para ello un informe del Ministerio de Energía (MINETAD) carente de todo fundamento y, además, anónimo. Ese informe de veto no demostraba, porque hubiera sido imposible hacerlo, que la citada Proposición de Ley afectara a los Presupuestos Generales del Estado en vigor ese año (ese es el único motivo real por el que el Gobierno central hubiera podido vetarla justificadamente). No obstante, el veto fue apoyado en la Mesa del Congreso por los representantes de los grupos parlamentarios Popular y Ciudadanos, de modo que la iniciativa no se pudo tramitar. Actualmente, tras la sentencia unánime del Tribunal Constitucional del pasado 12 de abril, la Mesa del Congreso tiene que resolver el levantamiento del veto a esta Proposición de Ley, al igual que el de otras muchas iniciativas que el Gobierno vetó sin una “real y debida justificación”. Además, el Parlament balear, el 27 de junio de 2018, volvió a aprobar, de nuevo por unanimidad, la misma Proposición de Ley elaborada por Alianza Mar Blava, la cual se remitirá de nuevo al Congreso de los Diputados para su tramitación. Dado que esta vez no sufrirá el veto del nuevo Gobierno de Pedro Sánchez, podrá ser discutida, y, creemos, será aprobada con una gran mayoría de la cámara, aunque haremos todo lo posible para que sea por unanimidad. PARA HACER EL TRABAJO QUE HACES UNO TIENE QUE SER MUY FUERTE, ¿ERES OPTIMISTA? Sí, soy una persona optimista, pese a ser plenamente consciente de los graves problemas medioambientales y socioeconómicos a los que nos enfrentamos. El cambio climático es, sin duda, el más preocupante de todos ellos, pues tiene la potencialidad de provocar cambios catastróficos que pueden poder en riesgo la supervivencia de numerosas especies, entre ellas la nuestra. Aunque a veces lo dudo, creo que no seremos finalmente tan estúpidos como para no reaccionar a tiempo al respecto de este problema. 54

Las soluciones técnicas para lograrlo ya las tenemos, la cuestión es lograr acabar con la irresponsabilidad política de dirigentes que sólo buscan satisfacer los intereses del lobby de las energías sucias, como los últimos ministros de energía que hemos padecido en España o, a nivel internacional, el actual Presidente de EE.UU., Donald Trump. La sociedad está despertando al respecto de forma cada vez más rápida y creo que finalmente la reacción necesaria se producirá. Si bien es verdad que cuanto más tardemos en reaccionar, cuanto más nos demoremos en empezar la transición ecológica de nuestra economía, más doloroso (y más costoso en términos económicos) nos resultará superar está crisis global. Considero que la Alianza Mar Blava es un buen ejemplo práctico de cómo avanzar en la solución de estos problemas. La Alianza está demostrando, desde su creación en 2013, que la unidad de todos los sectores de la sociedad (Administración pública, sector privado y sociedad civil), trabajando conjuntamente en base al consenso, es capaz de lograr grandes éxitos y transformar a mejor nuestra realidad. HACE DOS AÑOS QUE SE HIZO UN ESTUDIO DE QUE LOS BENEFICIOS DE LOS HIDROCARBUROS QUE PODÍAN ESTAR ALMACENADOS BAJO NUESTROS MARES SOLO CUBRIRÁN UNA PEQUEÑA PARTE DE LOS DAÑOS QUE PRODUCIRÁN EN SU EXPLOTACIÓN. ¿CÓMO SE PUEDE TODAVÍA INTENTAR EXTRAER LAS ÚLTIMAS GOTAS SABIENDO QUE SE ESTA DESTROZANDO NUESTRO FUTURO? La aproximación a los hidrocarburos que ha dominado el siglo XX ha sido desbordada por el conocimiento y la responsabilidad que llega desde la sociedad a las leyes de manera lenta pero inexorable. En este sentido no resulta coherente explorar o investigar nuevos yacimientos de combustibles fósiles cuando la comunidad cientifica, reunida en el Panel Intergubernamental sobre Cambio Climático de Naciones Unidas, así como la Agencia Internacional de la Energía y otras muchas instituciones, han puesto de manifiesto que si se quiere evitar los efectos de un cambio climático a gran escala, se debe dejar sin quemar la mayor parte de las reservas disponibles de combustibles fósiles, para no aumentar de forma irreversible las emisiones a la atmósfera de dióxido de carbono (CO2), principal gas causante del calentamiento global del planeta. La ciencia ha demostrado que, si queremos evitar los efectos de un cambio climático a gran escala, deberíamos dejar sin quemar una gran parte de las reservas ya disponibles de combustibles fósiles. Ante esta evidencia ¿qué sentido tiene seguir buscando nuevos yacimientos de hidrocarburos?: ninguno. Tenemos que dejar atrás cuanto antes la era de los combustibles fósiles y avanzar en la transición urgente hacia un nuevo modelo energético eficiente, inteligente y 100% renovable. A LA GENTE QUE ME DICE QUE SOMOS HIPÓCTRITAS PORQUE TODAVÍA SEGUIMOS USANDO MOTORES DE COMBUSTIBLE Y LUCHAMOS PARA QUE EN NUESTROS MARES NO HAY PROSPECCIONES LES DIGO SIEMPRE LO MISMO, CADA UNO TIENE QUE HACER LO QUE PUEDE, SIGUIENDO EL CONOCIDO LEMA ‘PIENSA GLOBAL, ACTÚA LOCAL’, ¿ESTÁS DE ACUERDO?

Totalmente de acuerdo. La gente que plantea esas disquisiciones sin sentido no sabe lo que dice o esconde intereses inconfesables. La transicion energética no se hace de la noche a la mañana, por supuesto llevará su tiempo, e intentaremos que éste sea el mínimo posible, pero hay que hacerla desde dentro, cambiando el absurdo sistema energético actual, completamente dependiente de las energías sucias, a uno de veras inteligente, eficiente y 100% renovable. Y eso se hace cambiando las leyes, además de las actitudes. ¿QUÉ PUEDE HACER CADA CIUDADANO, APARTE DE FIRMAR ESTAS SOLICITUDES Y DIFUNDIR LA INFORMACIÓN, PARA MEJORAR LA VIDA DE TODOS LOS SERES VIVOS? Tenemos que ser ciudadanos informados, comprometidos y activos. El desconocimiento de los problemas, propiciados por quienes quieren mantener el inaceptable statu quo actual, impide que el ciudadano se pueda informar adecuadamente sobre ellos y, por tanto, pueda empatizar y reaccionar activamente y con eficacia. Y que pueda unirse con otros para luchar por esa misma causa. La unión hace la fuerza. Eso es lo principal. Una vez decidido el objetivo a conseguir, es cuando hay que elegir las acciones que mejor nos puedan llevar a lograr su cumplimiento.

Pero, para lograrlo, e incuso ir más allá, desde Alianza Mar Blava entendemos que resulta necesario que las acciones normativas que se pretendan poner en marcha al respecto cuenten previamente con un amplísimo consenso social, empresarial y político de modo que puedan aplicarse de forma eficaz en el corto, medio y largo plazo. Ese sería el caso de esta Ley de Cambio Climático y Transición Energética que, si se lograse aprobar en esta misma legislatura, tendrá que ser desarrollada y aplicada sin contratiempos ni sobresaltos, no sólo en la próxima legislatura sino en un marco temporal mínimo de dos décadas. Esto significa que esta ley, para ser de utilidad, debería lograr ser avalada por la inmensa mayoría de la sociedad civil, el sector privado y las Administraciones públicas de las islas Baleares y que, por tanto, pudiera ser considerada como una ley de Baleares y no la ley de un determinado Govern. Estamos, pues, en un momento crucial, que no debemos desaprovechar, si nos tomamos realmente en serio el problema del cambio climático. MUCHAS GRACIAS CARLOS Y AUN MÁS GRACIAS POR EL TRABAJO QUE HACES, SEGUIREMOS LUCHANDO POR DONDE PODEMOS PARA CONSERVAR EL PLANETA PARA NUESTROS HIJOS Y TODOS LOS SERES VIVOS.

¿SERÁ POSIBLE DECLARAR POR LEY EL MEDITERRÁNEO ESPAÑOL COMO ZONA LIBRE DE PROSPECCIONES DE HIDROCARBUROS? Y CON EL FIN DE QUE TODO EL MEDITERRÁNEO Y A LO LARGO TODOS LOS MARES? Por supuesto que sí, y, como hemos visto antes, ese es nuestro objetivo. Y creo que lo podremos conseguir en el corto plazo. Francia y Nueva Zelanda ya tienen leyes en ese sentido, e Irlanda la tendrá en breve. Y seguirán todos los demás países. Veremos como esa lacra va a ir desapareciendo progresivamente de nuestros mares. ¿TÚ CREES QUE IBIZA UN DÍA SERÁ UNA ISLA ‘VERDE’, O SEA, LIBRE DE EMISIONES Y SOSTENIBLE AL 100%? ¿PARA CUÁNDO LO CREES POSIBLE? Sin duda, eso se logrará y es que, además, no nos queda otro remedio que lograrlo si queremos asegurar nuestro bienestar. El lapso de tiempo para lograrlo dependerá en gran medida de la movilización de la sociedad, entendida en su sentido más amplio, para exigir a los gobernantes la aplicación y puesta en marcha de medidas legales, económicas, financieras, técnicas, etc. Que permitan lograr, en el plazo de tiempo más breve posible, un nuevo modelo energético eficiente, inteligente y 100% renovable. En ese sentido hay que decir que la Consejería de Territorio, Energía y Movilidad del Gobierno balear ha elaborado un Anteproyecto de la Ley de Cambio Climático y Transición Energética. Se trata de una ley con objetivos muy ambiciosos de cara a la reducción de emisiones de CO2 y la descarbonización del sistema energético balear, actualmente inmensamente dependiente de los combustibles fósiles. Todas las medidas previstas en la citada ley, permitirán, según lo anunciado por el Gobierno balear, una reducción de las emisiones de CO2 del 40% en 2030 y de un 90% para el 2050. 18.1

Finally there is the most basic necessity, to survive. A few months ago I commited the headiness to leave a fix job behind to dedicate myself to this. ‘this’ contains the difficult labor to make understand that a creative job has a certain value. The idea that making an illustration or a logo takes ‘just a moment’ is very entrenched and to do a session of photographs is as simple as pulling out your iphone. I try to be at day and, as I told you before, I got a certain urge to express my point of view about things, therefore the anger about the overall general situation is a great fertilizer for my creativity, but if you want an example we can talk about the situation in the Mediterranean being converted in a kind of concentration camp for refugees while on the other hand we convert it in a luxury waste dump at the mercy of a bunch of millionaires, the powerful and the mafia. A pleasure. In this illustration a kid dressed in a ‘payesa’ (farmers) costume is wearing a gas mask with an airbox of ‘ibizencan air’. In one way I ironize a product that was released a few years ago as ‘air of Ibiza’ (no joke!) and the idea that this is just what we breathe as it would be our real air. What I try to express is the sensation of nostalgy on the one hand with the Ibizencan air captured in an air box and the suffocation that some of us residents go through (or at least those who stand for it) facing the fetor of what they call luxury forcing us to cover our faces, our identity, with something to be able to bear it. Theoretically it should have a positive impact, but practically it does harm in many ways. From the lack of medics, police and judges to the exodus of residents caused by the savage speculation with our homes, be it for sale or for rent. This is as for the part of society, because when it comes to our environment things get even worse, if that is any possible. From their campos of ‘luxury villas’ on the coasts plastered by beach clubs, hotels and cement in all its variations until the sea bottom being slaughtered by the anchors of mega yachts. TO BE BORN IN IBIZA MEANS YOU HAVE SEEN ALL THE DEVELOPMENT OF THIS ISLAND UNTIL TO WHERE WE ARE AT TODAY. DESCRIBE IT IN A FEW WORDS. Being Ibizenco the only I can say about it is one word: DISGRACE. WHAT IS IT THAT YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT THIS ISLAND? I can’t think of loving one thing more than any other. If you don’t love it all you don’t love it at all, and I love Eivissa. Its culture, its gastronomy, the traditions, the air, the light, some of its inhabitants… AND WHAT IS THE LEAST? The colony of humans that inhabit it and the way they treat it. 18.1

DO WE LIVE IN A DEMOCRACY OR IS IT AN ILLUSION THEY SELL US AS FREEDOM? We live in a parliamental monarchy. In the end it’s a monarchy. A kingdom of them with kings and princesses, earls and dukes, sirs and vassals. Well, before that it was even worse as there was a bug being the archon of gods grace that screwed us during 40 years. Even if it would be the same dictator to decide it, we got a king as defined by our constitution. This constitution that got voted by people that are elderly now, with a terrible fear of repeating the worst case that is war. Even if we get to vote every four years, being the ones to vote corrupt parties and descendants of this bug’s ideals, and I want to believe that at the end the ones that the people decide are in power (another thing is who’s in charge). But sincerely the concept of a monarchy inside a democracy, as much ‘parliamental monarchy’ as you want to call it, seems a contradiction in itself. If there is freedom or it’s just an illusion, I am not quite sure about it lately. I want to believe that yes there is. Therefore I believe I can say that this king that we spoke about before (the one designated by the little dictator) is a male macho slut killing elephants who dedicated his life to become rich and live a father’s life, and as we get to become vassals he doesn’t care, same for his son. Why do I think I can say all this? Because I think there is freedom. But then I look at Valtonik and I start to doubt. The same doubt I get when I feel to talk loud and clear about a certain mafia being established in Ibiza for many years. A mafia lead by a certain family saga with a famous ibizencan surname. In control from police to town halls, with tentacles in all sorts of economic activities being and having been in Ibiza. Having thousands of wrappers and palm trees distributed in all corners… And I got no idea why I don’t do it. I guess I am not the only one. THE PEOPLE UNITED WILL NEVER BE DIVIDED? If the people unite they defeat. In 1789 the French united and since then they do not have to bear nor kings nor princesses. Bad enough that the nation today is (are) dulled. IF YOU’D HAVE A MAGIC WAND AND COULD CHANGE FIVE THINGS IN AN INSTANT ON THE ISLAND, WHAT WOULD THEY BE? 1 decrement. I would make disappear all the unnecessary cement (there is far too much). 2 sustainability. I’d make it impossible to build more than ecologically bearable (and that is very little). 3 economical versatility. The export, mostly of salt (like in the ancient times) and other local products (e.g. carrob trees) of superior quality would entitle us to become independent of the monoculture that is tourism to maintain our population (in decline). 4 education. The population would have an education (public and of quality) where the consciousness and respect towards our island and its surroundings would be one of the pillars. 5 a cosmic caprice of justice. A certain family with a famous ibizencan surname and other exploiters of the same clan would dedicate the rest of their labour lifespan with executing the ‘Kelly’ work (cleaning personnel) under the economic labour conditions their very own workers impose. It’s a magic wand, so I can freak out a bit, no? 58

AND ON AN INTERNATIONAL LEVEL? 1 I’d fix the desaster we go trough with the Mediterranean. 2 I would end wealth, and as a consequence poverty. 3 I would end religions, during the history of humanity the only thing they caused is trouble. 4 I would end radicalism. This should be quite easy applying number three plus a good education. 5 I would fix the heads of the Americans. IF ILLUSTRATION WOULDN’T EXIST, WHAT WOULD YOU DO FOR A LIVING? Music is one of my passions and I don’t know how to play any instrument, which frustrates me, so if I would not illustrate I would probably play an instrument. UNTALTONI IN 20 YEARS? Soy uno de los especímenes de aborigen ibicenco que todavía deambula por esta isla. Enamorado de ella y, en consecuencia, enfadado y dolido por el agujero de lujo depredador y mafioso en la que la hemos metido. Hago lo que hago por una serie de necesidades. Primero por una necesidad creativa, casi fisiológica, que hace que el día en el que te sale una buena foto o ilustración, o simplemente se te ocurre una buena idea, sea muy distinto a esos días en los que no te sale nada. Después hay otra necesidad, la expresiva. La necesidad de contar de alguna manera mi perspectiva de las cosas, y mi manera de expresarla es mediante la ilustración y la experimentación fotográfica. En consecuencia, sobretodo las ilustraciones, se me nota el cabreo que llevo encima por toda la serie de animaladas que, bajo mi punto de vista, estamos sufriendo como isla, como país, como continente y como planeta.

Por último está la necesidad más básica, buscarme la vida. Hace unos meses cometí la imprudencia de dejar un trabajo fijo para dedicarme a esto. Esto conlleva la difícil labor de hacer comprender que los trabajos creativos tienen un valor. Está muy arraigada la idea de que hacer un dibujo o un logo ‘es un momento’ y que hacer una sesión de fotos es tan sencillo como sacar el iPhone.

Así que si usted, querido o querida lector o lectora de Dub, necesita alguno de mis servicios creativos, estaré encantado de hacer todo lo posible para que quede satisfecho o satisfecha. ¿ES CIERTO QUE TODOS SABEMOS DIBUJAR? De alguna manera sí, de la misma manera que todos sabemos cantar, aunque solo sea en la ducha… Sí, recuerdo que te lo dije como respuesta ‘a la gallega’ a tu pregunta de cuándo empecé yo a dibujar. A lo que me refería es a que todas y todos hemos dibujado durante nuestra infancia. Después hay quienes lo dejan y quienes continuamos. Imagino que a la mayoría de gente que dibuja le costará contestar esa pregunta, en cambio quien no dibuja te sabrá decir desde cuándo no dibuja (‘desde que iba a parvulitos’, por ejemplo)

¿QUÉ ES LO QUE MÁS AMAS DE ESTA ISLA?

¿CÓMO ES TU PROCESO DE INSPIRACIÓN Y DE SER CREATIVO? – SÉ QUE HAY MUCHAS MANERAS DE LLEGAR A SERLO.

¿VIVIMOS EN UNA DEMOCRACIA O ES UNA ILUSIÓN QUE NOS VENDEN COMO LIBERTAD?

Va, te cuento solo las legales xp… Intento estar al día de la actualidad y, como te decía antes, tengo cierta necesidad de expresar mi visión de las cosas, por lo que el cabreo ante la situación de TODO en general es un buen abono para mi creatividad, y una fuente maldita de inspiración. Estoy seguro de que me entiendes con esto de TODO, pero si quieres un ejemplo podemos hablar de la situación del Mediterráneo convertido en una especie de campo de exterminio de refugiados por un lado, mientras por el otro lo convertimos en un vertedero de lujo a merced de una panda de millonarios, poderosos y mafiosos. Por el camino los demás miramos hacia otro lado.

Vivimos en una monarquía parlamentaria. Una monarquía al fin y al cabo.Un reino de esos con reyes y princesas, condes y duques, señores y vasallos. Vale que antes era peor por que había un bicho que era caudillo por la gracia de dios que estuvo jodiendo 40 años. Vale que, aunque fuera el mismo dictador quién lo decidiera, tenemos rey por que lo pone en la Constitución. Esa Constitución que votó una generación de gente que ya es muy mayor, con un miedo terrible a que se repitiera el peor desastre (la guerra). Vale que votamos cada cuatro años, aunque sea a partidos corruptos y descendientes de los ideales de ese bicho, y quiero creer que al final gobierna quién decide el pueblo (otra cosa es quién manda). Pero sinceramente, el concepto de monarquía dentro de una Democracia, por muy ‘monarquia parlamentária’ que se llame, me parece un oxímoron.

ERES EL CREADOR DE LA PORTADA DE ESTA EDICIÓN, PRIMERO DE TODO MUCHÍSIMAS GRACIAS POR HABERLO HECHO - CUÉNTANOS QUE SIGNIFICA. Gracias a vosotros por confiar en mi para hacerla. Un placer. En esta ilustración una niña vestida de payesa lleva puesta una máscara de gas con una lata de ‘aire ibicenco’. Por un lado ironizo con un producto ridículo que salió hace unos años ‘aire de Ibiza’ y la idea de que al final acabaremos respirando eso como si fuera nuestro aire de verdad. Lo que intento es expresar la sensación de nostalgia por un lado con el supuesto aire ibicenco anclado a la máscara y la de ahogo que vivimos algunos de los habitantes de esta isla (o al menos la del que lo firma) ante el hedor de esto que llaman lujo y que nos obliga a cubrirnos la cara, nuestra identidad, con algo para poder soportarlo. Eso que en teoría debía repercutir positivamente y en la práctica lo que está haciendo es perjudicarnos de todas las maneras. Desde la falta de médicos, policías y jueces al éxodo de residentes por la especulación salvaje con la vivienda, en venta y de alquiler. Esto por el lado de la sociedad, porque por el lado medioambiental es todavía si cabe más asqueroso. Desde sus campos plagados de ‘Villas de lujo’ a las costas atiborradas de Beach Clubs, Hoteles y cemento en todas sus variantes, hasta llegar al fondo marino masacrado por las anclas de los megayates. HABER NACIDO EN IBIZA SIGNIFICA QUE HAS VISTO TODO EL DESARROLLO DE ESTA ISLA HASTA DONDE ESTAMOS HOY. DESCRÍBELO EN POCAS PALABRAS. Como ibicenco lo único que podría decir al respecto es una palabra: VERGÜENZA. 60

No se me ocurre amar más a una cosa que a otra. Si no se ama del todo no se ama, y yo amo Eivissa. La Cultura, la gastronomía, las tradiciones, el aire, la luz, algunos de sus habitantes… Y ¿QUÉ ES LO QUE MENOS? La colonia de humanos que la habita y cómo la trata.

Sobre si hay libertad o es una ilusión, no lo tengo claro del todo últimamente. Quiero creer que sí. Por eso creo que puedo decir que el rey ese del que hablábamos antes (el que designó el dictadorcillo) es un putero machista mata elefantes que ha dedicado su vida a forrarse y vivir la vida padre, y que cómo nos vaya a sus vasallos se la suda a él tanto como a su hijo. Como creo que puedo decir todo eso, creo que hay libertad. Pero luego veo lo de Valtonik y me surgen dudas. También me entran dudas cuando me entran ganas de hablar alto y claro de cierta mafia establecida en Ibiza hace muchos años. Una mafia encabezada por cierta saga familiar con célebre apellido ibicenco. Que controla desde policía hasta ayuntamientos, con tentáculos en todas las actividades económicas habidas y por haber en Ibiza. Si el pueblo se une, vence. En 1789 se unieron los franceses y desde entonces no tienen que aguantar reyes ni princesas. Lo malo es que hoy el pueblo está (estamos) aborregado. SI TUVIERAS UNA VARITA MÁGICA Y PUDIERAS CAMBIAR 5 COSAS EN LA ISLA AL INSTANTE, ¿CUÁLES SERÍAN? 1.Decrecimiento. Haría desaparecer todo el cemento que sobra (y sobra mucho). 2.Sostenibilidad. Haría imposible poder construir más de lo ecológicamente soportable (y eso es muy poco).

3.Versatilidad económica. La exportación, sobretodo de sal (como en la antigüedad) y de otros productos locales (algarrobas por ejemplo) de gran calidad harían que no dependieramos del monocultivo del turismo para mantener a la población (decrecida). 4.Educación. La población tendría una educación (pública y de calidad) en la que el conocimiento y respeto a la isla y su entorno sería uno de sus pilares.

1.Arreglaría el desastre que tenemos en el Mediterráneo. 2.Acabaría con la riqueza, y en consecuencia con la pobreza. 3.Acabaría con las religiones, durante la historia de la humanidad no han hecho más que liarla. 4.Acabaría con los radicalismos. Esto sería relativamente fácil con el punto 3 cumplido y una buena educación. 5.Arreglaría la cabeza a los americanos. SI LOS DIBUJOS NO EXISTIERAN, ¿QUÉ HARÍAS DE TU VIDA?

5.Un capricho de justicia cósmica. Cierta familia con célebre apellido ibicenco, y otros explotadores de la misma calaña dedicarían el resto de su vida laboral a las labores de ‘kelly’ con las condiciones económicas y laborales que imponen sus propias empleadas.

La música es una de mis pasiones y no se tocar ningún instrumento, cosa que me frustra, así que si no dibujara creo que tocaría algún instrumento.

HELLO GUYS, IT IS MY UTMOST PLEASURE TO WELCOME YOU IN DUB, THANKS FOR THE QUICK RESPONSE AND FIRST OF ALL FOR YOUR MUSIC. WHAT DID YOU DO BEFORE YOU BECAME BONDI? Alex: I did music my whole life starting with piano when I was 5 years old and singing my whole life. I started to learn guitar later on by myself. I had several recording studios and made all kinds of music before electronic music. Daniel: I started DJing in 2008 by getting a pair of Technics MK II’s and a cheap mixer from a friend - it was a real bargain back in the days. My friend also taught me how to beatmatch and all the other basics. After getting to know a few other interested people from the neighbourhood we started to organize our first own parties. At a certain point only playing records was not satisfying anymore, so I started to produce my first own beats. Everything I did until here was just a hobby for me, because I was studying economics and law at the same time. Eventually after meeting Alex and forming BONDI I realized that music is the path I need to follow to get happy with my life, so I quit university and now focus on music exclusively. WHY BONDI? Daniel: Quickly after our fist studio sessions we sensed lots of similarities and harmony during our work- and songwriting process. Eventually we decided to form a new independent project. To be honest it was quite a challenge to find a name for it. After lots of unsatisfying ideas I tried to imagine what I like most about the whole thing, and that is making music and go on tour. Suddenly all my experiences from travelling - especially to Australia, came into my mind. I felt all these emotions which I collected between the road trips and breathtaking landscapes. Bondi Beach is the most famous beach in Sydney – Australia. A breathtaking landscape located in the heart of the city. We liked the mix between paradise lightness and the urban life which also describes us in a way. So I told Alex about it and he also liked the idea. YOUR MUSIC HAS AN OBVIOUS INDIE TOUCH, WHAT ARE YOUR MUSICAL BACKGROUNDS? Alex: I grew up with all kinds of music from my older sister and brother. So my heroes in the childhood were bands like „Pearl Jam“ , „Nirvana“ , „R.E.M.“ just to mention a tiny few. Daniel: When I started to really listen to music I fell in love with electronic music, everything which is housey, groovy and works in a club. Nowadays I love to listen to lots of indie / rock & electronica bands like Phoenix, Radiohead, Mogwai […]. ALEX, YOUR VOICE ALWAYS GIVES ME GOOSE BUMPS, THROUGH ITS TONALITY AS WELL AS THE LYRICS. ARE YOU A MELANCHOLIC CHARACTER? 68

Most of the people in this society would draw early conclusions in calling me melancholic. I would call myself a philosopher, thinker, poet and musician. If I have to find a word to describe my character it would be more what we call a spiritual human being. My lyrics are my diary. DO YOU THINK THAT AN ARTIST HAS TO GO THROUGH CERTAIN EMOTIONAL ROLLERCOASTERS TO REACH HER/HIS BEST? Alex: Art in any form of expression is a reflection of the realms of life we cannot see with our senses. So every feeling, even the not so good ones, are the colours we need for making a picture, for writing a song. Daniel: I believe that everything we go trough in life is what forms our character and in the end what defines us as a person. When you write music it’s always an expression of your inner feelings or something you want to feel. WHAT INSPIRES YOU? Alex: Everything in life inspires me. When the student is ready the teacher will arrive and every situation, whether it’s good or bad, every odyssey I go through inspires me to write lyrics about it and to make a song out of it.

He was showing us a lot and we started with the best possible party: The Zoo Project. BONDI IN 20 YEARS? Alex: Being an old man trying to pass on what I have learned from life to the next generation. Daniel: And still rocking some stages around the world ;)

Daniel: Especially stuff I see travelling and emotions that arise while spending time on festivals and clubs.

WHO ARE YOUR ROLE MODELS?

¿QUÉ HACÍAIS ANTES DE CONVERTIROS EN BONDI?

Alex: I don’t have any. I do respect others for their work but I got rid of the so-called role models a long time ago.

Alex: Yo he hecho música toda mi vida, comencé con el piano cuando tenía 5 años y he cantado durante mi vida entera. Empecé a aprender a tocar la guitarra más tarde, por mi cuenta. He tenido diferentes estudios de grabación y he hecho todo tipo de música antes de la música electrónica.

Daniel: In many ways my parents, they aren’t perfect but I really admire how they handled all crazy challenges in life. IF MUSIC WOULDN’T EXIST, WHAT WOULD YOU DO? Alex: I would have to do something that does not fulfill me as much as music is doing every single day. Daniel: Same here… probably doing something which makes me not as happy as I am now. DO YOU KNOW IBIZA? Daniel: Yes, I’ve been there for the first time last year in 2017, joining my good friend Stefan Seelenwald who almost moved to the island but then switched his plans for Berlin. We found shelter at a friends place, a beautiful old finca in the middle of the island.

Daniel: Yo empecé a pinchar en 2008, cuando conseguí un par de Technics MK II’s y un mezclador barato de un amigo -era una auténtica ganga por aquel entonces. Mi amigo también me enseñó como clavar los tiempos y todos los demás básicos. Después de conocer a unas cuantas personas interesadas del barrio empezamos a organizar las primeras de nuestras propias fiestas. Llegado cierto punto, tan solo pinchar discos ya no me resultaba gratificante, así que comencé a producir mis propios sonidos. Todo lo que hice hasta ese momento había sido solamente un hobby, porque al mismo tiempo estaba estudiando económicas y derecho. Con el tiempo, después de conocer a Alex y formar BONDI, me di cuenta de que la música era el camino que debía seguir para conseguir ser feliz en la vida, así que dejé la universidad y me centré exclusivamente en la música. 18.1

¿POR QUÉ BONDI? Daniel: Rápidamente después de nuestras primeras sesiones de estudio nos dimos cuenta de montones de similitudes y harmonía durante nuestro trabajo – y el proceso de composición. Al final decidimos formar un nuevo proyecto independiente. Para ser sincero, fue un verdadero reto encontrarle un nombre. Después de montones de ideas insatisfactorias, trate de pensar en lo que más me gustaba de todo aquello, y era crear música y salir de gira. De pronto, todas las experiencias de mis viajes -especialmente a Australia- me vinieron a la mente. Sentí todas aquellas emociones que había acumulado entre viajes por carretera e impresionantes paisajes. Bondi Beach es la playa más famosa de Sídney – Australia. Un asombroso paisaje localizado en el corazón de la ciudad. Nos encantó la mezcla de paraíso luminoso y vida urbana que, en cierto modo, también nos describe a nosotros. Así que se lo conté a Alex y a él también le gustó la idea. VUESTRA MÚSICA TIENE UN EVIDENTE TOQUE INDIE, ¿CUÁLES SON VUESTROS ANTECEDENTES MUSICALES? Alex: Yo crecí escuchando todo tipo de música de mi hermana y hermano mayores. Así que mis héroes de infancia eran bandas como Pearl Jam, Nirvana, R.E.M., por mencionar solo unas cuantas. Daniel: Cuando empecé a realmente escuchar música me enamoré de la música electrónica, todo lo que sea un poco house, groovy y funcione en un club. Hoy en día escucho un montón de bandas indie/rock & electrónica, como Phoenix, Radiohead, Mogwai […]. ALEX, TU VOZ SIEMPRE ME PONE LA PIEL DE GALLINA, POR SU TONALIDAD Y TAMBIÉN POR LAS LETRAS. ¿ ERES UN TÍO MELANCÓLICO? En esta sociedad la mayoría de la gente se apresuraría a sacar conclusiones y llamarme melancólico. Yo me considero un filósofo, pensador, poeta y músico. Si tengo que elegir una palabra para describir mi carácter sería más bien lo que llamaríamos un ser humano espiritual. Mis letras son mi diario. ¿PENSÁIS QUE UN ARTISTA TIENE QUE PASAR POR CIERTOS TORBELLINOS EMOCIONALES PARA ALCANZAR SU MEJOR MOMENTO? Alex: El arte, en cualquiera de sus formas de expresión, es un reflejo de los ámbitos de la vida que no podemos observar con nuestros sentidos. Por lo que cada sentimiento, incluso los que no son tan buenos, son colores que necesitamos para crear un cuadro, para escribir una canción. Daniel: Yo creo que todo por lo que pasamos en esta vida forma nuestro carácter y, al final, es lo que nos define como personas. Cuando escribes tu música es siempre una expresión de tus sentimientos internos o de algo que quieres sentir. ¿QUÉ OS INSPIRA? Alex: Todo en esta vida me inspira. Cuando el estudiante está listo, el profesor llegará y cualquier situación, ya sea buena o mala, cada odisea por la que tengo que pasar me inspira a escribir letras y a hacer una canción sobre ello. 70

Daniel: Sobre todo cosas que veo cuando viajo y emociones que surgen mientras paso tiempo en festivales y en clubs. ¿QUIÉNES SON VUESTROS REFERENTES? Alex: Yo no tengo ninguno. Respeto a los demás por su trabajo, pero me he librado de los llamados modelos a seguir o referentes hace mucho tiempo. Daniel: De muchas maneras, mis padres; no son perfectos, pero de verdad admiro cómo se las han arreglado con todos los locos desafíos de la vida. SI NO EXISTIERA LA MÚSICA, ¿A QUÉ OS DEDICARÍAIS? Alex: Yo tendría que hacer algo que no me llenara tanto como la música lo hace cada día. Daniel: Lo mismo yo… probablemente haciendo algo que no me hiciera tan feliz como lo soy ahora mismo. ¿CONOCÉIS IBIZA? Daniel: Sí, yo estuve aquí por primera vez el año pasado, en el 2017, acompañando a mi buen amigo Stefan Seelenwald, quien casi se mudó a la isla, pero al final cambió de planes y se fue a Berlín. Nos refugiamos en casa de unos amigos, una hermosa finca antigua en el medio de la isla. Él nos enseñó un montón de lugares y comenzamos con la mejor fiesta posible: The Zoo Project. ¿BONDI DENTRO DE 20 AÑOS? Alex: Seré un viejo intentando pasar lo que he aprendido en la vida a la próxima generación. Daniel: Y sacudiendo todavía algunos escenarios alrededor del mundo ;)

Sex Judas feat. Ricky is the solo project of Norwegian producer Tore Gjedrem (Ost&Kjex). Inspired by musical elements from Africa, ‘80s NYC, Norwegian New Wave & Acid House, it is an intriguing musical melting pot that channels Tore’s “love of comix, bohemia, and a fascination with human vices, the unspoken, the Red Light districts, and the alleys of the mind.

German label Spieltrieb releases this collection of tracks from artists like Benno Blome, Dean Demanuele, Philipp Staab, Sokool, Danilo Schneider and more, all tracks are for the dance addicts, the lovers of sexy beats and driving tracks that breathe eroticism, always fresh, playful and tailored for those who won’t stop to dance if they don’t have to.

The cover states ‘Bringing folklore to the dancefloor’, and that sums it up quite perfectly. All tracks are somehow filled with humor and are real floor stompers, so to say ethnical tracks pimped with beats and basslines. 18 tracks in total build this unique fusion of styles that not necessarily work well together, but in this case the fusion is a full success.

As Patrick Bodmer is steering the M.A.N.D.Y. project now on his own and was always the more club oriented of both he teamed up with longterm buddies Booka Shade, Dubspeeka, Francesco Tristano and more to refresh their last album together. And he does it in style, name is program so you can expect finest mystical and tripped-out floor jewels to shake that booty.

Breese, former longterm resident at Café Mambo, compiled this collection of timeless quality tracks devoid of flimflam or favour, diverse sounds from true artists who, in their unique ways, each personify that enduring Balearic spirit. Featuring the likes of Max Essa, Simon Peter, Emerson Kitamura, Los Twangueros, J-Walk , Gallo and many more, this is a great collectors item.

Bosconi Records has long been renowned as arguably Italy’s foremost exporter of house and techno music. 13 tracks that are clocked on house music from the likes of 100Hz, Rei Loci, Mass Prod, Nas1, Riccio, Herva and many more, altogether 13 jewels that are a must in any skilled house lover’s collection. Artwork comes fom famous painter Silvano Campeggi.

Sounds of Earth is definitely one of the most important record labels in Mexico. Head honcho Vazik has compiled this 100th release with a total of 26 tracks from deep and atmospheric to chunky bass-lines and hypnotic rhythms. It feels like a World Cup of good music; acclaimed producers from Brazil, Germany, France, Serbia, Greece, Turkey and Mexico of course, appear on the track list.

The CLU, an abbreviation of The Collective Universe, is a collective of producers taking the faceless, music first approach drawing inspiration from sounds across the globe, as perfectly showcased in their inaugural release, a nine track compilation embracing a lounge/chill- out aesthetic. The release was finalized by Cologne based powerhouse producer Robert Babicz.

This double CD features exclusive tracks from Be Svendsen, Dj Pippi, Jacob Gurevitsch, Okinawa Delays, Prins Emanuel, Ambala, Troels Hammer, Copenema and many more.

Sincopat’s Darlyn Vlys presents remixes of his album and invites heavies like Chaim, HearThuG, AFFKT, Third Son, Lauer and more. All tracks breathe the original air of the album, dunkel indie vibes entangled in strong grooves and heavy beats, it is almost impossible to find a favourite, so you better play it all through to get the full impact and pass it on to the crowd.

The Echo Chamber has again teamed up with Bandulu Dub & Dan Dada Rec. to present a worldwide trip into Dub. This collection represents a broad variety of musical styles...and spans the globe in doing so, keeping up with the eclectic “anything goes” format of the Echo Chamber radio program – where “dub” is as much an attitude or approach to music as it is a genre of music.

Compiled by Marc De Pulse, this number five of the beautiful Bella Mar series is probalby my fave of all. Tracks from Marc himself, Bondi, Dale Middleton, F., Kruse & H. Burkhardt and many more. I played almost all of the tracks in my gigs already and all work to perfection, making this collection a must for all lovers of deep sensual grooves to enchant a dedicated crowd.

Flemcy Records presents, as the name indicates perfectly, ten tracks for the peak time hours of any floor, showcasing artists like JP Lantieri, Forest Weed, Bioslave, Peter Pavlov, Ge Bruny, Mystik Vybe and more. All tracks sound cristal clear and do not leave any prisoners behind, in fact they are very well selected to create a great continuous mix.

The subtitle is ‘Inner Symphony’ and describes, together with the title, very well what this fab collection of tracks represent. Steyoyoke is anyway one of my fave labels when it comes to great atmos, stunning vibes and strong beats. Artists like Soul Button, Clawz SG, Ceas, James Marley, Hushkin and many more deliver their vision of an inner symphony to perfection.

LEON REVOL / REALIZED YOU SHINE

This is like a dream come true, Radio Slave gets remixed by Dixon and Underground Resistance. His track ‘Trans’ is a broody indie-spiced hymn and gets a retouch from Innervision’s headhoncho in a way that moves it slightly more to the floor without loosing its charme and hypnotic feel through cosmic synth arpeggios. Detroit techno pioneers introduce modulated synths and vocal slices that dance around the beat, spiced by some funky schizophrenic guitars and trippy effects. Released on Rekids.

Fits like a glove in any easy-going atmosphere for movers and shakers. This is house music baby, French style. ‘Green plus’ is the easiest of all, shakin yo legs with a Martini in hand, ‘Realized You Shine’ is more sexy with its deep chords, “Third Rhythm’ is a disco-influenced samballistic affair with a sax and lots of retro elements. ‘Warm Pattern’ is just what it claims, acid lines tangled by rich claps, hats and rhythms, underlined with a hook that make it difficult t resist. SIS / DANZAN

RUNO / HENNA

Burak Sar aka SIS is definitely on the rise, he sounded never more himself before. Title track ‘Danzan’ is a wide open plethora of sounds around rich rhythms, cosmic vocal bits come flying in and develop into a funky floor killer à la SIS. ‘Crossing Bridges’ is amongst my current top ten, it is just so timeless and groovy, develops subtle and gentle into a feelgood track hard to resist. His typical guitar and rhythm elements suck you into his musical universe. Gets reworked by Ezekiel, speeding it up a bit with more weight on the rhythm introducing more claps and tension plus a trumpet-to-diefor element. Released on Mobilee.

Bulgarian Onur Feyzola delivers an addictive four tracker opening with his original ‘Henna’ being the most authentic version for me with its beautiful tension and irresistible beat elements. Sezer Uysal adds a bit more oriental ambient to it, isolating the sounds yet getting closer to the floor. DJ Diass cleans out the track adding his ethnic in order to introduce more crystal and open sounds. Finally Runo offers one bonus track, ‘Confuso’ is tricky repetitive tribal warm-up affair for skilled DJs.

A regular on Get Physical, Pezzner returns with a two tracker as deep and smooth yet groovy and spacy as he loves to do it. ‘Squares’ is the more atmospheric and soulful with a lovely vocal introducing itself most gently. ‘Wandering’ though is the shaker and mover on this shortplayer, minced basslines meet metallic perussions embraced by wobbling synths until finally gargling vocal givew the whole a finishing touch.

Labelboss of one of the best and most settled labels of Spain, Galaktika, Three different tracks plus a radio edit where French man Darlyn Vlys teams up with Northern Lite to create what he can do best – spine-tingling deep melodic tunes to shake a universe. His original is an indie-rock laden hymn of sounds and spheres, plus he converts it in his club mix into what I love best, a shuffled goose pimps trip that melts in your brain and hips. Israelian master Chaim injects his organic and forward-thinking mélange of synth pop versus ethereal bliss. Released on Sincopat.

BONDI / LAND OF THE BLIND

DANITO & ATHINA / HYPNOS

Daniel Archut and Alexander Schug form together Bondi, one of the most promising live acts i’ve heard in a long time. since their union in 2013 they released stellar tracks with lots of them in my fave folder. The combination of Alex’ voice and guitar with Daniel’s skills in beats and melodies once more catapult this release into eoectronic heaven. All three tracks melt in your brain, move your hips and caress your soul. Released on Get Bar25.

Two tracks plus one rework of title track ‘Hypnos’ presented by the German couple hailing from Cologne. The main track is dominated by a repetitive synth sound that slowly melts in your neurons whilst shuffling basslines enlace an addictive portion of acid. Second German team Innellea offers the easy going ‘’Highway To Hipnosis’ remix – name is program, caution, can cause addiction. Second track ‘My Body’ is a perfect example of how voices should be applied as Athina does it in the most seductive way. Released on Jeudi.

PEZZNER / SQUARES

CLAWZ SG / JEWEL French Sylvain Guiraud is a regular on Steyoyoke and delivers a real jewel including three remixes. The original is one of those feel-good records that just have it all to become an emotional catharsis. Label owner Chris aka Soulbutton takes it into space with ringing atmospheres and a healthy dose of drama. Ceas whereas drives it down to a heart-warming ambiental yet adds groove to it as well. Mashk finally converts into aold-school trance hymn softening the beats yet creating an epic feel through repetitive use of all elements culminating in hands-in-the-air. 80

DARLYN VLYS F. NORTHERN LITE / LEARNED TO HIDE

ALEXANDER KONING / WHAT KINDA DUCKZ Playing it on the radio thew other day I had messages from people asking if this is allowed to be aired. ‘Licking The Ice Cream Cone’ is basically the guide to a perfect blowjob, dressed in a most sexy house beat – an absolute must. On top performed by an incredibly sexy female voice. Title track ‘What Kinda Duckz’ is a broken beat funky sex banger for those who know. Jay Tripwire is on remix duties, adding a house beat and his trademark trippy and subliminal groove combo that makes you urge for more. Released on Perception.

NICHOLS / THE STAND

THE GROUND, F. KRUSE & H. BURKHARDT / DEDICTION RMXS

UK based Grant Nichols is one part of ‘Soul Of Noise’ and offers four different tracks for the skilled floors on the globe. ‘Timeslide’ opens the EP as a dark groover and shaker. “Harlequin’ is my fave and is much warmer and spheric, whereas ‘Nascent State’ would brighten things into euphoria to then close in sensual melancholy with ‘The Stand’. All four tracks are superbly produced and should be in your collection.

Florian & Hendrik team up to be The Ground and invite their fellas to have a go on their originals. ‘Creature’ gets a treat from Stelios Vassiloudis, one of my personal faves right now – as groovy as it can get. ‘Falling’ feat. Mi.li.an gets treated by Jonas Saalbach and is one of those heartmelting and soulbending reworks that could go on forever including a stripped down dub version, ‘Kingdom of Crumbling Walls’ featuring veteran producer Vincenzo and Mi.li.an’s voice is another endless love story, ‘Undercover’ in a remake of Fake Mood is just another one of my current top ten tracks, a must for all sensitive deep sexy groovers and includes an instrumental version, altogether a must-have release for those who know. Released on Audiomatique.

JA:CK / PAPRIKA Italian Tuscany brings out JA:CK, adding a healthy dose of house to the usually more techno-sensitive German cult label Cocoon whilst fitting to their high class roster like a glove. ‘Balearia’ is nothing short of a hymn, oldschool synths and arpeggios à la Harthouse propel this track into floor heaven leaving you with the urge to let it never end whilst title track ‘Paprika’ adds some tricky red hot spice to this release.

V.A. / PERFECT STRANGERS From the hypnotic shuffled groovy ambience of ‘Reflection’ by The Organism to the schizophrenic craze of ‘Tyran’ by Kincaid, the ethnic fever of ‘Mystic Trip’ by Soft Metal and the endless deep of ‘Prunes & Dunes’ by Mount Kismet - simply genius and a proof that intelligent electronic music will always be way ahead of the game and serve not only as inspiration for others to come but as a catalyzer to amplify the spectrum to a new and clearly higher level. Caution – highly addictive!

EMANUEL SATIE FEAT. BILLY COBHAM / DON’T GO HOME Rebirth is a phenomenon under the underground labels. Head honcho Shield is accurately selecting each release for his catalogue, making sure that each one is at the highest possible standards. Emanuel Satie doesn’t need introduction as one of the most prolific producers around, this time he teams up with legend Billy Cobham for the original, creating this ‘wooow’ feeling (again) as it is an essential tune in all its magnitude, defining what people would like to hear on repeat forever. The Nicolosi brothers add a chilled version to this exceptional package that will grace many ‘sun sets’ this season.

M.A.N.D.Y. F. JIMMY VALANCE / TOMORROW IS ANOTHER NIGHT RMXS Patrick Bodmer is steering the m.a.n.d.y. boat on his own now and turns to his closest mates for a retreat of the fantastic original. Audiofly’s Anthony Middleton adds the ‘Mandose Sunrise’ mix to it with maximum output for all addicts. Ben Pearce speeds things up in a quite rigorous manner, Patrick’s own rework is probably the mnost sweeping one leaving no prisoners, and finally Stereocalypse reduce the core to an indie-fuelled climax for the peaktime moments. Released -guess where- on Get Physical.

C-A-R / PINNED UP REMIXES Taken from her album, Chloe Raunet presents in 7 remixes 4 tracks out of it, two mixes of ‘This City’ with the Michael Mayer one being my absolute fave, a ‘French Kiss’’like hook takes u to heaven fusing it with the original Indie - out comes a hymn. Second is a Marcus Worgull remix of ‘Cholera’ with shuffled elements to wake that craze and Lokier on the same track with acid-drenched broken beats par excellence, Bawrut gets to go on ‘Daughters taking things the funky way and Jonny Rock’s ‘thisisfreakinglong butwherethefuckismy breakdownremix’ – nothing else to say about it but a must. Released on Ransom Note.

TAGTRÄUMER2 / GRANNY TAKES A TRIP REMIXES Well, what can I say? Name is program, Agaric delivers his well-known addictive hunting beats and eclectic elements to the original, Andreas Henneberg, known for his ability to create endless addiction, haunts for the higher spheres with his take – I’m still imagining the granny taking a trip… Norman Weber adds the dreaminess to it whilst finally the original reminds us where the genetic coding for this floor killer came from. JOSH BUTLER / DREAMWEAVER A four tracker in true Poker Flat style, dry-as-it-gets tech house par excellence, starting with the title track ‘Dreamweaver’, a chemically altered acid track spiced with a few weird vocal bits, followed by ‘Through You’ being more melodic and groove-laden. ‘Say Something’ counts on a vocal that leads through the track whilst driving claps and percussions create a special groove. Last one is ‘Movement’, once more phat beats overlaying a rain of groove elements but in a more sublte, almost dirty way.

MODULAR PROJECT / LEAVING Another great release on Rebirth is the collaboration with Modular Project aka Alberto Iovine and Alessandro Fumagalli. The track ‘Leaving’ is an instantly arresting, anthemic slice of electronic pop, fusing powerful drums, driving synth pads and celestial vocals for emotional impact in its original version and gets reworked by master Martin Gretschmann aka Acid Pauli in his typical addictive way using the original elements to create a hypnotic deep melancholy hard to resist whilst adding great synths to it on top. MARMION / SCHOENEBERG REMIXES This goes out to all those who had the luck to get in touch with Trance and Techno in the early 90’s, when Trance sounded of love and Techno was the propulsion of endless dance marathons. The original was released in 1994 and i guess i must have pleyed it a thousand times at least. A simple melody and an even simpler hook make the base qwith a streong Techno beat, a fantastic break with spheric melodies - out comesa a hymn. Now it is up to 2raumwohnung and Der Dritte Raum to catapult it into the present, and both do it in an excellent way. 2raumwohnung takes it a slice more dreamy, somehow closer to the original, and the break is still almost identical - goosebumps unite! Der Dritte Raum add some extra synths and a beat with a hell of a groove, i guess the very best is to simply play them both one after the other. A must!
