Walking out of the cinema the other day after we watched ‘Finding Dory’ I not only was once more flashed by the quality of modern animated movies but the fact that kids are so easily impressed, so naturally thrilled, free of traditional mindsets resulting in mental restraints that can and will ruin their evolution for decades to come.

For those who do not know Dory let me explain in a few words: She is a teenage Pacific regal blue tang (well, a fish) who suffers from short term memory loss, means she will forget everything she thought in just about 10 seconds, resulting in a severe problem to manage even the most easy daily tasks putting her parents to face serious problems when it comes to education.

What does that mean for her daily life? As she cannot count on her experiences she has to take decisions instantly based on her intuition, her basic instincts, her momentary judgement of each situation she finds herself in (Btw, I say ‘her’ and not ‘it’ as for me all living beings deserve to be titled as such, not a ‘thing’). And this is exactly the point where this editor’s letter is heading - on the one hand it is great to take heart from something you have learned throughout your life, on the other hand we should trust our instincts and enter each situation from the heart, or better said from the soul, without prejudice, without bias, as in many situations we do not have the time to think a lot about it but have to react in the very moment. There is a quote saying that ‘the first impression is always the right one’ - this is absolutely true, but only if you let go, if you really and totally trust your instincts.

What does that mean for our daily life? It means to decide in each situation of what would be the best to do without taking in consideration of what could be the possible outcome, to be spontaneous and, as a matter of fact, to be the most creative.

Dory manages so many situations in the most hilarious way, following another quote that I made my own a long time ago ‘she thought she could, so she did it’.

Sounds crazy? Well, let me tell you that you are so much stronger than you think, so much smarter, so much tougher, you literally have no idea of what you are capable of. Let out your inner child, let go of your mental restraints, your prejudices, and just be yourself, because no human is born bad, we are the high point of evolution and should react as such, in the best way for all involved, not as the sole egoistic being we so often tend to be. We have a historical responsibility to take care of each other and all living beings, to live a holistic way of life, nut just for the sake of ourselves or a few.

We are what we do, not what we possess or represent.

Saliendo del cine el otro día después de haber visto ‘Buscando a Dory’ me sentí no sólo deslumbrado por la calidad de las películas de animación de la actualidad, sino también por el hecho de que los niños sean tan fáciles de impresionar, tan naturalmente entusiasmados, libres de la mentalidad tradicional que resulta en restricciones mentales que pueden arruinar su evolución durante las décadas venideras.

Para aquellos que no conozcáis a Dory, dejadme que os lo explique en pocas palabras: Dory es una adolescente cirujano regal (bueno, un pez) que sufre de pérdida de memoria a corto plazo, lo que significa que se olvida de todo lo que piensa en unos 10 segundos, lo cual supone un grave problema para lidiar incluso con las tareas más sencillas de la vida diaria y que hace que sus padres se tengan que enfrentar a serios problemas en lo que su educación se refiere. ¿Qué supone esto en su vida diaria? Ya que no puede contar con sus experiencias, tiene que tomar decisiones instantáneamente basándose en su intuición, sus instintos básicos, su juicio momentáneo de todas y cada una de las situaciones en las que se encuentra. Y este es exactamente el punto al que esta editorial quiere llegar – por un lado, es estupendo entusiasmarse por algo que has aprendido a lo largo de tu vida, por otro lado deberíamos confiar en nuestro instinto y enfrentarnos a cada situación de corazón, o mejor dicho, de alma, sin prejuicios, sin discriminación, ya que en muchas situaciones no disponemos de tiempo para pensar mucho, sino que tenemos que reaccionar al momento. Hay un dicho que afirma que ‘la primera impresión es siempre la que cuenta’ – esto es totalmente cierto, pero sólo si te dejas llevar, si verdadera y completamente confías en tus instintos. ¿Qué implica esto en nuestra vida diaria? Significa decidir en cada situación qué sería lo mejor que podemos hacer sin tener en cuenta cuál podría ser el resultado posible, ser espontáneo y, de hecho, ser más creativo. Dory se las arregla en tantas situaciones de la manera más divertida, en concordancia con otra célebre cita que yo hice mía hace ya mucho tiempo - ‘ella pensó que podía, por lo tanto lo hizo’. ¿Suena una locura? Bueno, déjame que te diga que eres muchísimo más fuerte de lo que crees, muchísimo más inteligente, muchísimo más resistente. Literalmente no tienes ni idea de lo que eres capaz. Libera al niño que llevas dentro, líbrate de tus restricciones mentales, de tus prejuicios y sé tú mismo, porque ningún humano nace malo. Nosotros somos el punto álgido de la evolución y deberíamos reaccionar como tal, del mejor modo para todos los involucrados, no como el único ser egoísta que tan a menudo solemos ser. Tenemos una responsabilidad histórica de cuidarnos unos a otros y a todos los demás seres vivos, para vivir una vida holística, no sólo por nuestro bien o el de unos pocos.

Once more we sit in our offices working day- and nightshifts - each one in his own (home)office as today we can work from different spaces but on the same document at the same time using ‘screensharing’ - fact that brings me to the topic of this editorial: no idea when it exactly started but lately it seems that it is taken for granted that everybody can do various things simultaneously. I once read that women are much better adapted to ‘multi-tasking’ (another taboo word) than men and that it is almost impossible to synchronize both parts of the brain without causing permanent damage. So what about playing Pokemon Go while driving a car, walking on the street or attending a family reunion where nobody speaks a word? I so much detest people walking, eating, ‘socializing’ while they got their smartphone in front of their eyes, what makes me really sad is the fact that the generations (yes it is a lot more than one) to come won’t be able to live a real life in order to satisfy the necessity to feed the ‘supercomputer’ they think is the key to wisdom where problems get ‘googled’ and ‘likes’ are the currency to measure your popularity. A great quote is the following: the worst enemy of a corrupt government is an educated nation, so get your arse up and take responsibility - life is what you make it - not a free app to download.

In need of a decent escape from all those heavy Ibiza party vibes for a day or two? Keen to get away from it all and make friends with your better self right within the most beautiful nature the med has to offer? Easy. Get on the boat to the mystic little neighbouring island of Formentera and let your mind, body & soul unwind.

There is a unique vibe in the air and all around as soon as you set your foot down in the stylish little port & maritima area of La Savina. This place is just about 6 km distance from its bigger & much wilder sister, still the difference on about every level is close to mindblowing. Welcome to the organically authentic magnificence of Formentera!

Once you made it over (in about 30 minutes and for about one Euro per minute) with one of actually four ferry companies that offer a regular transit from Ibiza town (or try the morning transfer from Santa Eulalia) it will be quite obvious that there is no need to rush things. In fact, you should take your time with everything you see, feel, eat, drink and can do here - the reward you are in for has healing qualities.

In homage to that simple fact, try not to hurry on your way out of La Savina in the first place. You will easily find a scooter or car for rent at any time of day, so we recommend you slowly walk left past the numerous rental company offices, admire some of the amazing boats that more right to your left and try to get a table at the lovely AMARRE 32 café so you can take it all in before you check it all out.

Once you digested, walk another 100 metres, turn left again - and you find yourself in the middle of the Islands´most pretty artesan market, going on all day every day during the season. About 12 little stalls offer a variety of all sorts of unique & stylish stuff that will be hard to find anywhere else. No cheap sunglasses, pirated CDs and other naff tourist shit here - remember: Formentera is ruled by stylish Italians, and the formenterensc people are just as picky in terms of design & quality. Ibiza in fact could learn a lot from its little sister in that sense.

Now it’s decision time: hang out some more, keep on walking left past the market as the first (and acually very pretty) beach is awaiting you just a couple of hundred meters further… or compare prices for scooter-, bicycle or car rental to get going on a trip you will never forget.

A scooter is definitely the best choice in case you go for effortless independence depending on circumstance. Not all the beaches offer ample parking space for cars, and depending on the wind (which is always a tad bit stronger over here) a bicycle ride could turn out to be more of a workout than you thought. Make sure to remember the license plate number of your scooter (just in case: it should also be written on the key pad), as later on there will be hundreds of similar scooter models parked around yours, and they basically all look the same!

A few more points for the check list before you set off: make sure to make use of high protection sun screen, as the sun burns down mercilessly at any time of day but you might not be aware of it because of the pleasant winds at first. Thats why you should also always keep a bottle of water (or better two) within reach 12

not only will you probably have to spend a fortune on it later on some beach… chances are you will find a beautiful beach spot that has no bar or chiringuito within walking distance. You don’t want to get up on your scooter again just to find a place to keep you from dehydrating.

Safety comes first, so be smart and wear that helmet during any time of your scooter ride. Flip Flops are also not really the best choice, so keep them in your beach bag until you reach your final destination. Especially in July & August, the tiny Formentera roads are so crowded, and as the combination of climate & nature’s beauty tends to make most people totally careless, make sure to drive responsible. Remember: Foooooormeeeeenteeeeraaaa iiiiis slooooooow (as the locals say), and therefors it’s best to adapt to that tempo.

During the ride out of La Savina, you will notice giant salt lakes to your left, the so called Salinas. We will get there eventually on our way back in the evening. Keep driving straight ahead direction San Francisco (San Francesc).That cute little pueblo is indeed the island’s capital and hosts the local government, police and radio station (RADIO ILLA). Once you reach the first roundabout, turn right and try to park your vehicle somewhere close on the road to Cala Saona and Cap Barbaria, just a few hundred meters in.

If you feel hungry now, SA PIZZA (on the right side of that very road) offers the best Pizza slices on the whole island. Most of them have funny or even silly names, but the taste won’t get any better than this.

Ready for a little stroll around town? Walk up to the church on one of the four totally cute pedestrian zones, all rammed with nice stores, bars & cafés. At some points during summer, the church square hosts classy musical events (like e.g. the Jazz Festival). Venture out from there, the amount of amazing concept stores & boutiques around is hard to deal with, especially for the ladies, so take your time (as well as all your credit cards). We recommend XALOK for the nicest, unique Formentera merchandise (still hungry try the next door CAFÉ MATINAL for their famous breakfast), and make sure to look for BLINK (women) and RHEI (men) in the same area – some of the coolest clothes & goodies in the most stylish surrounding await you.

Back on the scooter and straight ahead at all times, further up the road to breathtaking Cap Barbaria. On the way to that moonlike plateau with a pretty lighthouse and an unbelievable view over Ibiza and the sea, take a look at the ancient little houses to your left & right, nestled deep within the amazing landscape: this is Formentera’s last area with neither electricity nor running water.

Just a bit more further up the hill - and as soon as you see the lighthouse you will be bamboozled by the views & energy up here. Look right and you see Ibizas magic rock Es Vedra. Turn left so you can peek at what is known as Platja Migjorn: almost 9 km of the most unspoiled beaches you can imagine - we’ll get there soon! On a good, clear day you can also see the African coastline in the very far distance.Time to daydream, meditate or just stop & stare. As you walk towards the cliff to take a closer look, make sure not to fall into the bizarre, circle shaped hole in the ground (but try the ladder leading you down if there’s time).

Okay, seen enough? Now back on that scooter, heading back direction San Francisco - but take a left when you see the signs pointing towards Cala Saona. It’s time for a swim in Formentera’s magic waters finally, and it will be one you won’t forget.

After the Cala Saona experience, take the road back to San Francesc but this time turn right on the village roundabout and get back on the main road… which will lead you to the next village.

Although San Ferran is located right along the main street, its pace is just as calm as the San Francesc one, maybe even more so.

Park your vehicle and walk up to the church square. On your way you can make a dinner reservation at Formentera’s supreme outdoor pizza place MACONDO just before you reach the island’s most legendary bar, the FONDA PEPE. In case you plan to stay overnight, right opposite is the lovely HOSTAL PEPE, the ultimate in simple, nice & tranquil hospitality.

Head further down the main road direction LA MOLA, get ready to venture out to your right, preferrably at KM 8. Platja Migjorn time! Follow the (pretty rough) camino and you reach the parking of the legendary BLUE BAR. Before you go there for lunch, dinner or to enjoy their wonderful alien shows and DJ sessions for sunset, turn right and walk down the wooden path, passing the amazing apartment building called EL PUEBLO BALEAR and then reaching LUCKY, a tiny beach shack which serves as the numero uno south beach hotspot for the (more relaxed part of the) beautiful people of Italy.

If you are in for classic spanish food, walk on until you reach REAL PLAYA and its own little, ultra pretty beach (apartments for rent as well). Once the sun sets, keep walking on the wooden path along the beach for kilometers this side, you can reach GECKO beach, SOUTH beach and some other famous paradise spots while letting the sweet melancholy of natures infinite beauty spoil you.

Meanwhile, we are back on the BLUE BAR parking and walk up to the place itself. As the name implies, everything is just as blue as the colours of the sea here. The kitchen is amazing but it is also great to just hang out in the shade on the terrace and enjoy the unique view. Just in case, get down on the beach to take a swim. Or keep walking left through the hot sand. Pass by LAS BANDERAS and many other magic beach spots, most of them unspoiled (even in high season). After a while you have reached another italian style fortress called 10.7… if you have the right credit card and no limit on it, this is the place to go all the way in terms of food.

Walk on and you reach the famous PIRATABUS, and a bit further down the FLIPPER & CHILLER, they also offer great food.

You can also reach all those places if you go back on the main road and turn right when you come from BLUE BAR, direction ES CALO and EL PILAR DE LA MOLA. Most have their own caminos from the main street onwards and have signs there pointing you in the right direction.

Before you let your scooter take you up to EL PILAR DE LA MOLA, go for a swim in ES CALO. Magic coves await you, as well as more varieties of that mesmerizing blue (or rather turquoise) sea water.

In case you crave food in this area, there’s a couple of great restaurants with amazing views in Es Calo, or try the ACAPULCO (km 12.6) a bit further up the main street, they serve great pizza!

Then move on further uphill. Drive by ES MIRADOR, the spectacular viewpoint which allows for the ultimate view across the complete island - it will look even more spectacular on your way back down.

Along the way up to the plateau of EL PILAR DE LA MOLA, you will notice the nature changing from desert like to miraculous forest style. Legend has it that Bob Dylan lived up here for a longer period in the mid sixties for inspiration, and it’s still quite easy to see why.

There are a lot of bars & restaurants worth checking out up here depending on what tickles your fancy, and also a nice tiny square hosting the famous artesan hippie market (on sundays).

Save some time to go on further down the straight line road to FARO DE LA MOLA - the view into the eternity of the blue sea and mesmerizing horizon from next to the lighthouse is a revelation.

Once you arrive, stroll around for a bit & watch the seagulls dive down from the breathtakingly high cliffs, then make sure to put yourself on the terrace of CODICE LUNA, a pleasantly simple chill restaurant. Not only is this the ultimate hangout to experience the amazing “end of the world” vibes up here, they also have a great taste in adequate music to accompany the views.

In case you manage to escape before you completely lose your feeling of time & space, don’t forget to stop at ES MIRADOR on your way back down for another spectacular view - then head back along the main street all the way to SAN FERRAN but take a right in the middle of the village, direction ES PUJOLS. There’s some lovely houses to see on your left & right along the way - and then, just before you reach ES PUJOLS, you will notice you almost ran right into TIPIC, Formentera’s only “serious” (yet super tiny) night club with format.

If you feel in the mood for a buzzing “Rimini” experience, stop in ES PUJOLS for shopping, food & drinks or just some people watching. As this village is by far the islands most “commercial” spot, the mix of faces, characters & bodies here is mind boggling . Go for an even deeper italian experience? Check out the BANANAS, COYOTE or some of the other classic azurro party places all over town.

If you don’t feel like spoiling your newly gained tranquility, leave ES PUJOLS to your right and head towards the amazing salt lakes of s’Estany Pudent. It might smell a bit funny here at times (which is down to the salt production in the heat), but we still recommend to take a walk and/or a soft right at HOTEL ROCA MAR to reach one of the two most “obvious” Formentera beaches: PLATJA LEVANT. Beware: just like SES ILLETES (the other “obvious” beach right on the opposite side in walking distance, hosting the italian high society and the crews from the bigger yachts in places like BESO BEACH, EL TIBURON and the quite overrated JUAN Y ANDREA you should arrive early here to find a nice peaceful spot.

In August these places are packed to the max! As this area is a protected environment, don’t shy away from paying a few euros to enter the area on your vehicle (discount for residents), as the 14

money is used to restore the magic & delicate fauna & flora here after the stampede has moved on in October.

If you have some time left, try to make it over to ILLA S’ESPALMADOR - on a day with less wind & waves you can wade through the seawater from SES ILLETES and LEVANTE. It is no surprise these beaches are constantly among the most beautiful in the world - but that’s exactly also why they are not among the most tranquil anymore.

Formentera is probably the single most peaceful place in the whole mediterranean, and that’s why a good party here is a bit more difficult to come across than in Ibiza. If you really can not resist the temptation, ES PUJOLS has to offer most of the night time enjoyment (TIPIC, PACHANQUA, BANANAS & CO.) - but chances are you can also join quite adventurous, even steamy get togethers inside & around places like BLUE BAR after midnight (connaisseurs beware of the early AM music selection though, it is mostly far from eclectic, let alone contemporary).

The beautiful thing is that Formentera cares to differ, which makes at least half of its unique magic. You can contribute by respecting the peace as well as the nature. Find a hotel or hostal if you stay overnight - camping is forbidden on the whole island.

When you think of the beauty of nature and the high risk of wildfires, it is easy to understand why. There used to be no cigarette tips & litter on any of these beaches but that has changed with the increasing mass tourism, especially since there now is a big ferry arriving daily from the spanish mainland as well.

As the island unconditionally shares its most beautiful treasures with you, give back some of the love by not littering, driving responsibly and by respecting the overall peace & tranquility. If you had too much of anything at night, leave your scooter or car until the next day & share a taxi with someone - ugly accidents & paradise vibes don’t mix too well. Some of the roads & caminos easily turn into dangerous dirt tracks at night. Just in case there are three bus lines, connecting the few central spots & villages until late evening. If you feel like hitch hiking, beware: if the police sees you, be prepared to get fined… the taxi lobby has quite a say in paradise.

In summary, feel free to revisit any of the above mentioned spots & locations on any other day and just hang out in one of them (or maybe two). There is no haste in Formentera, and you don’t really want to be identified as a careless tourist moron right away, so remember to take it easy and leave your wristwatch at home… maybe even also your iPhone headset. The sound of silence in Formentera goes hand in hand with the breathtaking beauty of nature all around you.

FORMENTERA – DISFRUTA DEL SILENCIO ¿Necesitas una escapada decente de todo ese intenso ambiente de fiesta de Ibiza durante uno o dos días? ¿Deseando alejarte de todo y disfrutar de estar a solas contigo mismo justo en mitad de la naturaleza más hermosa que el Mediterráneo ofrece? Sencillo. Súbete a un barco con dirección a la mística isla vecina de Formentera y deja que tu mente, tu cuerpo y tu alma se relajen.

Existe una onda única en el aire, que te rodea tan pronto como pones el pie en el área del moderno puerto y marina de La Savina. Este lugar está a tan sólo unos 6 km de distancia de su mayor y mucho más salvaje hermana, sin embargo la diferencia a prácticamete cualquier nivel es sobrecogedora. ¡Bienvenido al orgánicamente auténtico esplendor de Formentera!

Una vez que hayas conseguido llegar (en unos 30 minutos y por un coste de aproximadamente un euro por minuto) con una de las cuatro empresas de ferries que ofrecen transporte regular desde la ciudad de Ibiza (o también puedes probar el transporte matutino desde Santa Eulalia), te resultará bastante obvio que no existe ninguna necesidad de apresurar las cosas. De hecho, deberías tomarte tu tiempo con todo lo que ves, sientes, comes, bebes y puedes hacer aquí – la recompensa que te aguarda posee cualidades curativas.

En homenaje a este simple hecho intenta, para empezar, no darte prisa en tu camino de salida de La Savina. Te será fácil encontrar una moto o un coche de alquiler a cualquier hora del día, por lo que nosotros te recomendamos que camines despacio hasta dejar atrás las numerosas oficinas de alquiler de vehículos, que admires algunos de los fantásticos barcos justo a tu izquierda y que intentes conseguir una mesa en el encantador café AMARRE 32, para que puedas asimilarlo antes de irte a otro lado.

Una vez que lo hayas asimilado, camina otros 100 metros, gira de nuevo a la izquierda – y te encontrarás en medio del mercado de artesanía más hermoso de la isla, que durante la temporada está abierto todo el día, todos los días. Unos 12 puestecitos ofrecen una variedad de todo tipo de cosas exclusivas y a la moda que sería difícil encontrar en cualquier otro lugar.

Nada de gafas de sol baratas, CDs pirateados u otro tipo de esa ordinaria porquería para turistas – recuerda: Formentera está gobernada por elegantes y modernos italianos y los formenterienses son igual de quisquillosos en lo que a diseño y calidad se refiere. De hecho, Ibiza podría aprender mucho de su hermana pequeña en este sentido.

Ahora ha llegado ya la hora de decidir: dedicar algún tiempo más a pasar el rato, seguir caminando pasado el mercado -ya que la primera (y realmente preciosa) playa te está esperando a tan sólo unos cuantos cientos de metros… o comparar precios para alquilar una moto, una bici o un coche y empezar un viaje que nunca olvidarás.

Sin duda, la moto es la mejor opción si lo que quieres es la independencia sin esfuerzo dependiendo de las circunstancias.

No todas las playas ofrecen amplio aparcamiento para coches y, dependiendo del viento (que es siempre un poco más fuerte por aquí), un paseo en bicicleta podría convertirse en ejercicio mucho más pesado de lo que tú tenías pensado.

Asegúrate de que recuerdas el número de la matrícula de tu moto (por si acaso: debería estar también escrita en el llavero), ya que más tarde habrá cientos de modelos parecidos de motos aparcados alrededor de la tuya y, básicamente, ¡todas parecen iguales!

Un par de puntos más para tu lista de cosas por verificar antes de partir: asegúrate de usar una crema solar con un factor de protección alto, ya que el sol abrasa a cualquier hora del día, pero es posible que al principio no te des cuenta de ello a causa de los agradables vientos. Es por eso que siempre deberías llevar contigo una botella de agua (o mejor aún, dos) – no sólo es probable que más tarde tengas que gastarte una fortuna para comprarla en alguna playa… lo más probable es que encuentres un bonito rincón en una playa donde no haya ni un bar o chiringuito al que se pueda llegar andando. No querrás tener que subirte otra vez a la moto para buscar un sitio donde encontrar algo que evite que te deshidrates.

La seguridad es lo primero, así que sé inteligente y utiliza el casco todo el tiempo que vayas en moto. Lo cierto es que las chanclas tampoco son la mejor opción, así que mantenlas dentro de tu bolsa de playa hasta que alcances tu destino final.

Sobre todo durante julio y agosto, las carreteras de la pequeña Formentera están realmente abarrotadas y la combinación de clima y bellezas naturales tiende a hacer que la gente se vuelva completamente descuidada, así que asegúrate de conducir con responsabilidad. Recuerda: Foooooormeeeeenteeeeraaaa eeeees leeeeeeentaaaaaaa (como dicen los lugareños) y, por lo tanto, es mejor adaptarse a ese ritmo.

Durante el viaje de salida de La Savina te darás cuenta de los enormes lagos de sal a tu izquierda, las llamadas Salinas. Con el tiempo llegaremos allí, por la tarde, en nuestro camino de regreso. Sigue conduciendo todo recto, en dirección a San Francisco (San Francesc). Este pequeño y encantador pueblo es de hecho la capital de la isla y alberga el gobierno local, la comisaría y la emisora de radio (RADIO ILLA). Una vez que llegues a la primera rotonda, gira a la derecha e intenta aparcar tu vehículo en algún lugar cercano, en la carretera de Cala Saona y Cap Barbaria, a tan sólo unos cientos de metros.

Si tienes hambre, SA PIZZA (en el lado derecho de esa misma carretera) ofrece las mejores porciones de pizza de toda la isla.

La mayoría de ellas tienen nombres graciosos, o incluso un poco tontos, pero el sabor no podría ser mejor. ¿Preparado para un pequeño paseo alrededor de la ciudad?

Camina hacia la iglesia por una de las cuatro realmente preciosas zonas peatonales, todas ellas repletas de encantadoras tiendas, cafeterías y bares. En ciertos momentos a lo largo del verano la plaza de la iglesia acoge eventos de música clásica (como por ejemplo el Festival de Jazz). Aventúrate a salir de allí, la cantidad de increíbles tiendas conceptuales y de boutiques es difícil de asimilar, en especial para las mujeres, así que tómate tu tiempo (y ten a mano tus tarjetas de crédito). Nuestra recomendación es XALOK, por los productos más bonitos y exclusivos de Formentera.

¿Todavía hambriento? Prueba el CAFÉ MATINAL por sus famosos desayunos y luego asegúrate de buscar en la misma área BLINK (mujeres) y RHEI (hombres) – donde te esperan algunas de las prendas de ropa y de las cosas más chulas que hayas visto en el entorno más moderno posible.

De vuelta a la moto y siguiendo recto todo el tiempo, continúa por la carretera hasta llegar al impresionante Cap Barbaria. De camino a esa meseta con forma de media luna con un hermoso faro y una increíble vista de Ibiza y del mar, echa un vistazo a las antiguas y pequeñas casas a izquierda y derecha, enclavadas en lo más profundo de este asombroso paisaje: esta es la última región de Formentera sin electricidad ni agua corriente.

Sube tan sólo un poco más arriba por la colina – y tan pronto como veas el faro te quedarás desconcertado por las vistas y la energía de allí arriba. Mira hacia la derecha y podrás ver Es Vedra, la mágica roca de Ibiza. Gira hacia la izquierda para poder ver la que hoy en día se conoce como Platja Migjorn: casi 9 km de las playas más vírgenes que te puedas imaginar – ¡llegaremos allí muy pronto! En un día de cielos claros y despejados también puedes alcanzar a ver las costas de África en la distancia. Hora de soñar despierto, meditar o simplemente pararse y contemplar. A medida que caminas hacia el acantilado para echar un vistazo más de cerca, asegúrate de no caer en el extraño y redondo agujero del suelo (más bien, si tienes tiempo, intenta usar la escalera que te lleva hacia abajo).

Muy bien, ¿ya has visto suficiente? Ahora toca volver a montarse en esa moto y volver en dirección a San Francisco – pero gira a la izquierda cuando veas las señales que indican Cala Saona. Es hora, por fin, de nadar en las mágicas aguas de Formentera y esta será una experiencia que no olvidarás.

Después de la experiencia en Cala Saona, coge la carretera de vuelta a San Francesc, pero en esta ocasión gira a la derecha en la rotonda del pueblo y vuelve a la carretera principal… que te llevará hasta el próximo pueblecito. Aunque San Ferrán está localizado justo a lo largo de la caretera principal, su ritmo es igual de tranquilo que el de San Francesc, tal vez incluso más.

Aparca tu vehículo y camina hasta la plaza de la iglesia. De camino puedes hacer una reserva para cenar en la mayor pizzería al aire libre de Formentera, MACONDO, justo antes de llegar al bar más legendario de la isla, la FONDA PEPE. En caso de que estés pensando en quedarte a pasar la noche, justo enfrente se encuentra el encantador HOSTAL PEPE, lo máximo en hospedaje simple, agradable y tranquilo.

Sigue avanzando por la carretera principal en dirección a LA MOLA, prepárate para aventurarte a tomar la salida a tu derecha, preferiblemente en el kilómetro 8. ¡Es la hora de Platja Migjorn! Sigue el (bastante irregular) camino y alcanzarás el aparcamiento del legendario BLUE BAR. Antes de que vayas hasta allí para almorzar, cenar o disfrutar de sus fantásticos espectáculos alien y sesiones de DJs al atardecer, gira a la derecha y baja caminando por el sendero de madera, pasando por el increíble edicifio de viviendas llamado EL PUEBLO BALEAR y alcanzando entonces el LUCKY, una pequeña cabaña de playa que sirve como el club número uno de la playa sur para (la parte más relajada de) la hermosa gente de Italia.

Si lo tuyo es la comida española tradicional, sigue caminando hasta que alcances el REAL PLAYA y su pequeña y superbonita playa propia (y también con apartamentos para alquilar). Una vez que se haya puesto el sol, sigue caminando durante algunos kilómetros por este lado del sendero de madera a lo largo de la playa y podrás llegar hasta la playa GECKO, playa SUR y algunos célebres lugares paradisíacos más mientras dejas que la dulce melancolía de la infinita belleza de la naturaleza te envuelva.

Entretanto, volvamos al aparcamiento del BLUE BAR y caminemos hasta el bar. Como el nombre indica, todo es tan azul como los colores del mar de aquí. La cocina es increíble, pero también es igual de estupendo simplemente pasar el rato a la sombra de la terraza y disfrutar de las extraordinarias vistas. Por si acaso, baja hasta la playa a darte un chapuzón. O sigue caminando hacia la izquierda, a lo largo de la caliente arena. Pasa por LAS BANDERAS y por otros muchos mágicos lugares en la playa, la mayoría de ellos intocados (incluso en temporada alta). Al cabo de un rato alcanzarás otra fortaleza de estilo italiano llamada 10.7 … si posees la tarjeta de crédito adecuada y sin límites, este es el lugar que colma todas las expectativas gastronómicas de cualquier mortal.

Pasa de largo y alcanzarás el famoso PIRATABUS y un poco más adelante el FLIPPER & CHILLER, ambos sirven también fantástica comida.

También puedes llegar a todos esos lugares si vuelves a la carretera principal y giras a la derecha cuando sales del BLUE BAR en dirección a ES CALO y a EL PILAR DE LA MOLA. La mayoría tienen sus propios caminos desde la carretera y poseen señales que te indican la dirección que debes seguir.

Antes de dejar tu moto coge hacia EL PILAR DE LA MOLA y ve a nadar en ES CALO. Te esperan calas mágicas, así como más tonalidades de esa fascinante azul (o más bien turquesa) agua de mar.

En caso de que te apetezca comer en esta región, hay un par de estupendos restaurantes con asombrosas vistas en Es Calo o, un poco más adelante en la careterra principal, puedes probar el ACAPULCO (en el km 12.6) ¡donde sirven un pizza increíble!

A continuación, sigue conduciendo cuesta arriba. Ve hasta ES MIRADOR, un espectacular mirador que permite disfrutar de las mejores vistas a lo largo de toda la isla – te parecerá incluso más espectacular en tu camino de regreso cuesta abajo.

A lo largo del camino hacia arriba hasta la meseta del PILAR DE LA MOLA, te darás cuenta de cómo la naturaleza cambia de un paisaje tipo desértico hasta un milagroso paraje tipo bosque. Cuenta la leyenda que Bob Dylan vivió aquí arriba durante un largo período de tiempo a mediados de los años sesenta en busca de inspiración y todavía hoy resulta fácil ver el porqué.

Aquí existen un montón de bares y restaurantes que merece la pena visitar, dependiendo de lo que te apetezca, y también hay una pequeña y agradable plaza que albega el famoso mercado artesanal hippie (los domingos).

Aparta algún tiempo para seguir bajando por la carretera en línea recta hasta el FARO DE LA MOLA – la vista del eterno mar azul y el fascinante horizonte cerca del faro son una auténtica revelación. Una vez que llegues, date un paseo y observa a las gaviotas zambulléndose desde los impresionantemente altos acantilados, después de esto asegúrate de irte hasta la terraza de CODICE LUNA, un tranquilo restaurante agradablemente sencillo. No sólo se trata del último garito en el que experimentar el maravilloso ambiente de “fin del mundo” de aquí arriba, también tiene un gusto exquisito para la música adecuada para acompañar las vistas.

En caso de que consigas escapar antes de perder completamente tu sentido del tiempo y del espacio, no te olvides de detenerte en ES MIRADOR en tu camino de vuelta para otra vista espectacular – luego ve por la carretera principal hasta llegar a SAN FERRÁN, pero coge a la derecha en mitad del pueblo, en dirección a ES PUJOLS. Hay algunas encantadoras casas que podrás ver a tu izquierda y a tu derecha a lo largo de todo el camino – y entonces, antes de que alcances ES PUJOLS, te darás cuenta de que casi te has metido en TIPIC, el único night club “serio” (si bien superpequeño) de Formentera.

Si te sientes con ganas de una frenética experiencia “Rimini”, detente en ES PUJOLS para hacer unas compras, comer y beber algo o simplemente para un poco de observar a la gente. Una vez que este pueblo es con diferencia el lugar más “comercial” de la isla, la mezcla de rostros, características y cuerpos que encontrarás aquí es impresionante. ¿Quieres una experiencia italiana incluso más intensa? Prueba el BANANAS, el COYOTE o algún otro de los locales del clásico azzurro a lo largo de la ciudad.

Si no te sientes con ganas de arruinar tu recién adquirida tranquilidad, deja ES PUJOLS a tu derecha y dirígite hacia los increíbles lagos de sal de s’Estany Pudent. Es posible que huela un poco raro a veces (olor que se debe a la producción de sal al calor), pero aún así te recomendamos darte un paseo hasta el HOTEL ROCA MAR, para llegar hasta una de las dos playas más “obvias” de Formentera: PLATJA LEVANT. Cuidado: al igual que en SES ILLETES (la otra “obvia” playa justo enfrente y a la que se puede llegar caminando, que acoge a la alta sociedad italiana y a las muchedumbres de los yates más grandes, en lugares como BESO BEACH, EL TIBURON y el bastante sobrevalorado JUAN Y ANDREA, deberías llegar temprano para encontrar un lugar agradable y tranquilo. ¡En agosto estos lugares están abarrotados hasta el límite!

Ya que esta región es una área protegida, que no te asuste tener que pagar algunos Euros para entrar en el área con tu vehículo (los residentes tienen descuento), ya que el dinero se utiliza para restaurar la mágica y delicada fauna y flora de aquí antes de que la estampida se vaya a otros lugares en octubre.

Si todavía te queda algo de tiempo, intenta llegar hasta ILLA S’ESPALMADOR – en un día con menos viento y olas puedes caminar por el agua del mar desde SES ILLETES y LEVANTE. No es de sorprender que estas playas constantemente se encuentren listadas entre las más bellas del mundo – pero también es exactamente por eso que ya no se encuentran entre las más tranquilas.

Formentera es probablemente el lugar más tranquilo de todo el Mediterráneo y es por eso que una buena fiesta aquí es mucho más difícil de encontrar que en Ibiza. Si de verdad no puedes resistir la tentación, ES PUJOLS ofrece la mayor parte del entretenimiento nocturno (TIPIC, PACHANQUA, BANANAS & CO.) -pero lo más probable es que puedas unirte a las intrépidas e incluso algo calientes quedadas en y alrededor de lugares como el BLUE BAR después de medianoche (los entendidos quedan avisados de que la selección de música AM está lejos de poder considerarse ecléctica, mucho menos contemporánea).

Lo bonito es que Formentera se preocupa por diferenciarse, lo que supone la mitad de su magia singular. Puedes contribuir respetando su paz y tranquiladad, así como su naturaleza.

Busca un hotel o un hostal si vas a pasar la noche - acampar está prohibido en toda la isla. Cuando piensas en la belleza de la naturaleza y el alto riesgo de incendios, es fácil entender el porqué. No solía haber ninguna basura ni colillas en ninguna de estas playas, pero esto ha cambiado con el aumento del turismo en masa, en especial dado que ahora también hay un gran ferry a diario que llega a la isla desde la Península.

Ya que la isla comparte contigo de manera incondicional sus tesoros más hermosos, devuelve algo de este amor al no tirar basura, al conducir con responsabilidad y al respetar la paz y tranquiladad general. Si por la noche te has tomado demasiado de lo que sea, deja tu moto o tu coche hasta el día siguiente y comparte un taxi con alguien - horribles accidentes y ambientes paradisíacos no son una buena combinación. Algunas de las carreteras y caminos se convierten con facilidad en peligrosos caminos de tierra por las noches. Por si acaso, existen tres líneas de autobús que conectan los pocos lugares céntricos y los pueblos hasta últimas horas de la tarde. Si te sientes con ánimo de hacer autostop, ten cuidado: si te ve la policía, prepárate para recibir una multa… el lobby de los taxistas tiene mucho que decir aquí en el paraíso.

En resumen, siéntete libre para revisitar cualquiera de los locales y lugares mencionados arriba cualquier otro día y simplemente pasar el tiempo en cualquiera de ellos (o quizás en un par de ellos). No existen las prisas en Formentera y seguro que no quieres que de entrada piensen que eres un turista idiota y descuidado, así que acuérdate de tomártelo con calma y dejarte el reloj en casa… quizás incluso también los auriculares de tu iPhone. El sonido del silencio en Formentera va de la mano con la impresionante belleza de la naturaleza que te rodea.

Second is a festival that has already started, the BLOOP FESTIVAL. It spins from the 16th of July until the 16th of August, so there is still time to pass by. It was created in 2011 under the ethos of ‘art is for everybody’ and tries to sensitise people for art, opening doors and connecting people in reality, not via mobile devices or virtual. That is why this year’s theme is ‘No Fear’, meaning that fear has become omnipresent in our daily lives, triggered by politics through mass media, suggesting a safer world by ‘protecting’ us from subversive people, terrorists and other potential ‘threats’. The venue was created already two years ago but never really took off, fact that will change from now on as you can expect great performances of both Matthew and Ryan plus invited guests. The BHS - BOUTIQUE HOSTAL SALINAS, a cosy hotel situated in the natural reserve of Salinas, five minutes away from the beach, not only offers great food but fine events during the summer season, such as Culture Tribe on Fridays and a great market called ‘Once Upon A Time’ every last Saturday of the month where fashion meets vintage. Cova Santa on the road to San José is home to a new concept called WOOMOON on Wednesdays, combining finest deep beats with art and performances. The music ranges from Electronic Cumbia to Deep House, with great live acts such as Lulacruza from Argentina and lots more. Open doors at 6 pm, children are very welcome as they have a massive kids park and you can expect live art with body painting, crazy live performances, outstanding light installations from Bambooo and a fantastic mix of people. We recommend to get there early, first to get a decent parking place as all the lots will be full in no time, and second to not get stuck in the queue to be able to enter the venue. One of the ultimate places to watch a perfect sunset enjoying fine artists performing live and behind the wheels in a true spiritual surrounding is Kumharas, located at the almost very end of Port d’Es Torrent in San Antonio. If you are into the sound of the 80’s then you should definitely pass by at Hard Rock Hotel Sundays. CHILDREN OF THE 80’S is the name of the event and is organized by the Dream3Team (Jose Maria Castells/Toni Peret/Quique Tejada). We met as we did the interview with Tomas Manjavacas and it was a great experience seeing the three living and breathing this music 24/7. The event started in 2015 and took off immediately, now in their second season they truly rock the Casbah. Guest artists in August are Haddaway, Dr. Alban, C+C Music Factory and more, plus you can expect great performances by neon style dancers armed with leggins, head- and sweatbands. Fantastic for a heavy backflash, prepare yourself to sing along a jampacked and dedicated crowd.

Last but not at all least comes HEART, a stunning venue combining finest food, art, fashion and music. Run by Cirque de Soleil and the Adriá brothers Albert and Ferran, two of the world’s best chefs, this venue has set a new standard in entertainment.

Three of the nights they celebrate are outstanding, our favourite is Acid Sundays with Acid Pauli & Friends, the music will simply blow your mind, this is the definition of deep, combined with most vanguard video animations and great performances including special live acts. The second one is a party that had a residence in El Divino back in 1995 and has vanished for many years but is now resurrecting, it is called Submission and the name truly is program. ‘A hedonistic haven for the sexually explicit’ bound by Ronald Lloyd High Eliston aka DJ Rubber Ron, this is the perfect occasion for all lovers of explicit kink to show off, meet like-minded and expand the limits of your sexual fantasies. Celebrated every Saturday until September 10th. Third and not at all least is Fridays with Boogie in Wonderland, fusing the Studio 54 vibe with contemporary fashion and performances, including a great live act from Recardo Patrick (one of the founders of BiW) on the mic together with great live musicians. En segundo lugar está un festival que ha comenzado ya, el BLOOP FESTIVAL. Se extiende desde el 16 de julio hasta el 16 de agosto, así que todavía estás a tiempo de pasarte por allí. Es por ello que el tema de este año es ‘No Fear’, refiriéndose a como el miedo se ha vuelto omnipresente en nuestra vida diaria, siendo desencadenado por políticos a través de los medios de comunicación, sugiriendo un mundo más seguro para ‘protegernos’ de las personas subversivas, de los terroristas y de otras potenciales ‘amenazas’. MY DESTINATION IS THE SMALL BAR NEXT TO THE GO KART RACING TRACK - A PERFECT, OFF THE BEATEN TRACK SPOT, TO MEET WITH HJORDIS FOGELBERG, LONG TIME COLLEAGUE, FRIEND AND CREATOR OF THE ONE AND ONLY GUIDE TO IBIZA AND FORMENTERA. YOU SEEM TO HAVE ART AND CREATIVITY IN YOUR GENES, YOUR GREAT GRANDFATHER WAS A FAMOUS ARTIST? My dad was a Danish Architect and my mum a british model and both were very creative. My great grandfather was Ashey Havinden, who was influenced by Stanley Morison who introduced the sans serif faces for Monotype. Ashley then created the font Ashley Crawford in 1930 and its variant Ashley Inline. In 1955 Monotype released the typeface Ashley Script, by which he immortalised his own handwriting in type. So this might explain my fascination with graphics and fonts.

WHAT WAS IT LIKE TO GROW UP ON IBIZA IN THOSE DAYS? Ibiza was idyllic. Life was slow and simple as it was before the digital age had engulfed us, so as kids me and my two brothers spent the entire day outside, down at Sa Punta in Talamanca playing in the rock pools, fishing and snorkeling. At home I had a whole wall by the house where I had tamed all the lizards and everyday they would all come out (about 50 of them) to eat off my hands,... yes... a lot of free time.

YOU DID STUDY GRAPHIC DESIGN AND WORKED OVER THE YEARS FOR MANY DIFFERENT PUBLICATIONS UP TO THE POINT WHERE YOU BECAME DIRECTOR OF PACHA MAGAZINE, TELL US MORE ABOUT IT. 10.2

After finishing my Design Degree in London, I went to work for Logic Records in Frankfurt as one of their in-house designers where we churned out CD Covers like crazy until due to family tragedy, I had to return to the island for a while, only to then decide stay. This was all made possible by my boss at the time Michael Münzing (SNAP), to whom I am eternally grateful as he flew me back to Ibiza with a computer and all the necessary extras to open up my own little studio which I called Blue Cactus Design. I started with poster and flyer work for all the big promoters and clubs and then years later joined the Pacha group and created Pacha Magazine with Ben Turner and Danny Whittle. After 11 years at Pacha I decided I needed a change as it just felt like we were repeating ourselves so I created the My Ibiza & Formentera Guide. I wanted to do something heart felt and true and offer a real honest insider point of view of the island and what it has to offer other than the party circuit. No paid editorials and no advertising for the sake of advertising and filling space.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE THE QUALITY OF GRAPHIC DESIGN ON IBIZA IN GENERAL? The posters don’t make me turn my head. I like strong concepts, illustrations and photography. Sometimes I spot something I like but I can’t say it happens often. I like the simplicity of this years HYTE approach and Solomuns stuff is fun but the age or originality seems to have died…I like Ibiza Rocks fluorescent banners but the last true creatives were in my opinion Mike and Claire for the Manumission and Carry On series.

AND OF ALL THE VARIOUS PUBLICATIONS? There’s a lot out there now…not like before.

I’m not going to say much on this topic because it will just get interpreted wrong. To create a monthly magazine is a hell of a lot of work. Tons of research and extra hours as well as all the deadline stress. All I can say is that some magazines are improving while others are just getting worse.

HOW DID YOU GET THE IDEA TO CREATE ‘MY IBIZA & FORMENTERA’?

Well, while I was still at Pacha Magazine, I realized that there was a huge gap in the market. I put myself in a first time visitors shoes and imagined what it would be like to arrive at the airport without a clue where to go or what to do apart from the club posters everywhere and that was the moment where the idea was born in my head. I then had to come up with a name. It was so hard to do. Now the name My Ibiza & Formentera seems obvious, but it was not that obvious at the time. I just called it what it was, my vision of the islands. I also wanted it to be modest and friendly. I decided to just use my own illustrations, which made it different and I also did a very relaxed layout, stepping away from all the graphic design obsessed rules which had tired me out with past magazines. It was an expensive project to start but luckily I was the writer, illustrator, designer and publisher so it was possible.

NOW, IN ITS SECOND EDITION, PEOPLE SEEM TO BE FULLY AWARE OF THE OUTSTANDING QUALITY OF THE BOOK - I SAY BOOK BECAUSE IT IS SO MUCH MORE THAN A MAGAZINE - HOW DOES IT FEEL? When I finished the first issue and held the first printed copy in my hands before my launch party in 2014, I was petrified. I had no idea what to expect from everyone. It was facing the fear basically and putting my heart and soul out there. I thought to myself, if just one person contacts me and tells me that I made their holiday better, all the hard work would be worth it. Well, I have had over 500 emails from happy visitors who have even said that their copy of the guide is like a “bible” to them. It is an incredible feeling when you are understood.

WHERE CAN PEOPLE FIND IT?

When I was working as Art Director at Pacha Magazine, I went out one night to Pacha with a few friends and when we arrived at the door I was refused entrance, that was pretty funny.

It’s in all the news agents on Ibiza, in the airport lounge, in a few concept stores around the island like The Store (La Sal), La Galeria Elefante, Sluiz, Cocoq, and then some hotel shops like Atzaro and beach shops like Jockey Club, Experimental and Deseo on Benirras. Then it is also available in about 50 Corte Ingles Shops in Spain as well as FNAC and Natura in Barcelona Airport. In London you can buy it at Stanfords in Covent Garden.

APART FROM BEING A DESIGNER YOU ALSO PAINT, HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE?

CAN YOU CONFIRM A RISING AWARENESS AMONGST THE ISLANDERS TO CARE ABOUT THE ISLAND?

I like to call myself a neo expressionist and my work generally depicts my love/hate relationship with technology, thus my always large-scale work which allows me to get away from the constraints of the computer screen. I use mixed media, which includes spray paint, grit, sand, acrylics and stencils.

I hope that islanders are becoming more aware, but I still see people putting their shopping in plastic bags, using huge cars that pollute and watering gardens that are not designed to save water. There are many things to be concerned about here. The taxi companies can´t manage the amount of tourists but nothing is done to change this as they won´t add extra services. The island produces so much waste in the summer and yet plastic bags are still offered in Ibiza supermarkets when it is clear that plastic kills thousands of turtles a year in the sea causing a rise in jellyfish as turtles feed on them. The water tables have dropped dramatically here as we have had hardly any rain in the last few years yet house owners still have tropical gardens in their villas and tourists have still not really been made aware of the water problem.

WHAT WAS THE MOST HILARIOUS SITUATION YOU HAVE HAD DURING YOUR CAREER?

YOU STILL FIND TIME TO PAINT? Yes, but it is not really the time but the right emotional state.

After years of design work I realize that I work best on a deadline.

So I make a point of giving myself projects to complete. I force myself to get involved in the outside world as after so many years here on Ibiza... it’s easy to get stuck in the Ibiza bubble.

I have a show coming up in October in New York, which I am really excited about. It is along side a group of London artists, which are all amazing.

There is way more traffic and hardly any parking and the government has just agreed to pedestrianize the whole of Vara de Rey in Ibiza centre which means so many restaurants, shops and bars will suffer due to less people coming into town because they can’t park. Then the most worrying of all, as a mother of a 14 year old, I see that the young generation here starts to go out clubbing too young, falsifying their ID documents (with their parents consent) and then staying out until the early hours and sleeping most of the next day. As a teenager here myself years ago, my parents made me get a job at the age of 15 so I was busy all day and then tired at the end of the day, which kept me out of the night scene for a few more years.

APART FROM WHAT YOU ARE ALREADY DOING WITH THE ‘SAVE WATER’ STICKER, WHAT ELSE CAN EACH ONE DO TO CONTRIBUTE TO A BETTER IBIZA? I would build a place that had a great common area with a library and games room, and art area, some computers, maybe a graffiti zone and a big skate park in front as well as a small concert hall to let the kids start creating something great amongst them.

Because despite all the amazing outdoors that we have here, there is not a really good set up for teenagers that would keep them active and healthy instead of them all wanting to just hang out, smoke and start experimenting with drugs so young which I put down to the fact that they are bored. I would also try and get a cheaper more efficient system of transport (like Über) so that less people used their cars when drunk or intoxicated. This summer there have already been so many fatalities on the road and all were people driving under the influence and sadly a lot of them very young.

IF YOU HAD A MAGIC WAND, WHAT THREE THINGS WOULD YOU IMMEDIATELY CHANGE ON THE ISLAND? The list is long, but to start, I would make all the big buildings behind Botafoch vanish so the lovely view would come back from Talamanca to Ibiza and I would turn all the ugly square block houses into fincas and exchange metal wire fences around peoples land into stone walls.

YOUR FAVORITE BEACH, RESTAURANT, BAR AND NIGHTCLUB? I KNOW IT’S A TOUGH ONE BUT...

My favorite beach is Playa de Levante in Formentera.

My favorite restaurant is Can Suldat in Escanar.

My Favorite bar is Bar 1805 in Ibiza Town.

My favorite nightclub was once the Space terrace but that’s over 10 years ago so now I don’t have a favorite anymore, just a favorite night that is Solomun in Pacha on Sundays.

IBIZA IN 25 YEARS? Well if it changes as much as it has in the last 25 years then I will hide away in Formentera or maybe Mexico. 25 years ago my dad was already desperately sad with all the changes. You know, you used to be able to see Ibiza Town clearly from Talamanca. There were no big buildings in between. PARECE QUE LLEVES EL ARTE Y LA CREATIVIDAD EN LOS GENES, ¿TU BISABUELO FUE UN ARTISTA FAMOSO? Mi padre era una arquitecto danés y mi madre una modelo británica y ambos eran muy creativos. Mi bisabuelo fue Ashey Havinden, quien estuvo influenciado por Stanley Morison, quien a su vez introdujo las fuentes sans serif para Monotype. Luego Ashley creó la fuente Ashley Crawford en 1930 y su variante Ashley Inline. En 1955 Monotype lanzó la tipografía Ashley Script, mediante la cual él inmortalizó su propia caligrafía en fuente.

Es posible que esto explique mi fascinación con artes gráficas y fuentes.

¿CÓMO FUE CRECER EN IBIZA EN AQUELLOS TIEMPOS? Ibiza era idílica. La vida era tranquila y simple, ya que fue antes de que nos envolviera la era digital, así que de niños mis hermanos y yo nos pasábamos el día entero en la calle, abajo en Sa Punta, en Talamanca, jugando en las piscinas de las rocas, pescando y buceando. En casa, yo tenía una pared entera de la casa en la que había domesticado a las lagartijas y cada día todas ellas salían (eran unas 50) para comer de mi mano… sí… un montón de tiempo libre.

ESTUDIASTE DISEÑO GRÁFICO Y A LO LARGO DE LOS AÑOS TRABAJASTE PARA MUCHAS Y DIVERSAS PUBLICACIONES, HASTA EL PUNTO EN EL QUE TE CONVERTISTE EN LA DIRECTORA DE LA REVISTA PACHA. HÁBLANOS UN POCO MÁS SOBRE ESTO.

Tras terminar mi carrera de Diseño en Londres, me fui a trabajar en Logic Records, en Frankfurt, como uno de sus diseñadores internos, trabajo en el que producía portadas de CD como una loca hasta que debido a una tragedia familiar tuve que volver a la isla durante un tiempo, para luego decidir quedarme aquí.

Todo esto fue posible gracias al que era mi jefe en aquella época, Michael Münzing (SNAP), a quien estaré eternamente agradecida ya que fue él quien me mandó en un vuelo de vuelta a Ibiza con un ordenador y todos los extras necesarios para abrir mi propio pequeño estudio, al que yo llamé Blue Cactus Design.

Empecé con trabajos de pósters y flyers para todos los grandes promotores y los clubs y años después me uní al grupo Pacha y, junto con Ben Turner y Danny Whittle, creamos la Pacha Magazine. Después de 11 años en Pacha decidí que necesitaba un cambio, ya que me parecía que nos estábamos repitiendo, así que creé la guía My Ibiza & Formentera Guide. Quería hacer algo sincero y auténtico y ofrecer una visión de primera mano honesta de la isla y de lo que esta tiene para ofrecer, además del circuito de fiesta. Sin editoriales pagadas y sin publicidad por el simple hecho de tener publicidad y de rellenar espacio. ¿CÓMO DESCRIBIRÍAS LA CALIDAD DEL DISEÑO GRÁFICO EN IBIZA EN GENERAL? A mí los pósters no hacen que me gire para mirarlos. Personalmente me gustan los conceptos, ilustraciones y fotografías poderosos. Algunas veces veo algo que me gusta, pero no puedo decir que suceda muy a menudo. Me gusta la simplicidad de estos años, el enfoque HYTE y las cosas de Solomun son divertidas, pero la edad o la originalidad parecen haber muerto… Me gustan los banners fluorescentes de Ibiza Rocks, pero los últimos auténticos creadores en mi opinión fueron Mike y Claire para Manumission y las series de Carry On. ¿Y DE TODAS LAS VARIAS PUBLICACIONES? Hay un montón ahí fuera… no como antes. No voy a hablar demasiado sobre este asunto, porque simplemente sería malinterpretado. Crear una revista mensual es un infierno, un montón de trabajo. Toneladas de investigación y horas extra, así como todo el estrés de los plazos de entrega. Todo lo que puedo decir es que algunas revistas están mejorando mientras que otras simplemente están yendo a peor.

¿CUÁL HA SIDO LA SITUACIÓN MÁS DIVERTIDA EN LA QUE TE HAYAS VISTO DURANTE TU CARRERA? Cuando trabajaba como directora de arte en Pacha Magazine me fui una noche al Pacha con unos amigos y cuando llegué a la puerta me negaron la entrada. Eso fue bastante divertido.

ADEMÁS DE SER UNA DISEÑADORA TAMBIÉN PINTAS, ¿CÓMO DESCRIBIRÍAS TU ESTILO? Me gusta considerarme una neoexpresionista y mi trabajo generalmente representa mi relación de amor/odio con la tecnología, de ahí mi trabajo siempre a gran escala, que me permite alejarme de las restricciones de la pantalla del ordenador.

Utilizo técnicas mixtas, entre la que se incluyen pintura en spray, gravilla, arena, acrílicos y plantillas. ¿TODAVÍA ENCUENTRAS TIEMPO PARA PINTAR? Sí, pero en realidad no es el tiempo, sino el estado emocional adecuado. Después de años de trabajos de diseño me doy cuenta de que trabajo mejor con una fecha de entrega. Así que me aseguro de encargarme a mí misma proyectos para completar. Me obligo a involucrarme en el mundo de ahí afuera, ya que después de tantos años aquí en Ibiza es fácil quedarse atrapado en la burbuja de Ibiza. Tengo un espectáculo que comienza en octubre en Nueva York con el que estoy realmente entusiasmada. Es junto a un grupo de artistas de Londres, que son todos fantásticos. ¿CÓMO TE SURGIÓ LA IDEA DE CREAR ‘MY IBIZA & FORMENTERA’?

Bueno, cuando todavía estaba en Pacha Magazine me di cuenta de que existía un gran nicho en el mercado. Me puse en los zapatos de una persona que visita la isla por primera vez y me imaginé cómo sería llegar al aeropuerto sin tener ni idea de adónde ir o qué hacer aparte de por los pósters de los clubs que están por todas partes y ese fue el momento en el que nació la idea. Entonces tuve que inventarme un nombre. Fue algo muy difícil. Ahora el nombre My Ibiza & Formentera parece obvio, pero no era nada obvio en aquel momento. Simplemente lo llamé lo que era, mi visión de las islas. Además quería que fuera modesto y amigable.

Decidí utilizar tan sólo mis propias ilustraciones, lo que lo hizo diferente, e hice también un layout muy informal, apartándome de todas las reglas obsesivas del diseño gráfico que tanto me habían extenuado en anteriores revistas. Fue un proyecto costoso para empezar, pero por suerte yo era la escritora, ilustradora, diseñadora y editora, así que se hizo posible.

AHORA, EN SU SEGUNDA EDICIÓN, LA GENTE PARECE SER TOTALMENTE CONSCIENTE DE LA EXCEPCIONAL CALIDAD DEL LIBRO – DIGO LIBRO PORQUE ES MUCHO MÁS QUE UNA REVISTA - ¿CÓMO TE HACE SENTIR ESTO? Cuando terminé el primer número y tuve en mis manos la primera copia impresa antes de mi fiesta de lanzamiento en 2014, estaba petrificada. No tenía ni idea de qué esperar de todo el mundo. Básicamente se trataba de enfrentarse al miedo y de ponerle todo mi corazón y mi alma. Pensé conmigo misma, si tan sólo una persona se pone en contacto conmigo y me cuenta que yo he hecho que sus vacaciones hayan sido mejores, entonces todo el duro trabajo habrá merecido la pena.

Bueno, he recibido más de 500 emails de felices visitantes que incluso me han dicho que su copia de la guía es como una “biblia” para ellos. Es una sensación increíble cuando te sientes comprendido. ¿DÓNDE PUEDE LA GENTE ENCONTRAR LA GUÍA?

Está en todos los vendedores de periódicos y revistas de Ibiza, en la sala de espera del aeropuerto, en unas cuantas concept store a lo largo de la isla, como The Store (La Sal), La Galería Elefante, Sluiz, Cocoq y también en algunas tiendas de hoteles, como Atzaro, y en tiendas de playa como Jockey Club, Experimental y Deseo, en Benirras. Además, está también disponible en unas 50 tiendas de El Corte Inglés en toda España, así como en FNAC y en Natura en el aeropuerto de Barcelona. En Londres puedes comprarla en Stanfords, en Covent Garden.

¿PUEDES CONFIRMAR UNA CRECIENTE CONCIENCIA ENTRE LOS ISLEÑOS SOBRE CUIDAR LA ISLA? Espero que los isleños se estén volviendo más conscientes, pero yo todavía veo a gente colocando su compra en bolsas de plástico, usando coches enormes que contaminan y regando jardines que no están diseñados para ahorrar agua. Aquí existen muchas cosas de las que preocuparse. Las empresas de taxis no pueden gestionar la cantidad de turistas, pero no se hace nada para solucionar este problema, ya que no añaden servicios extra.

La isla produce mucha más basura en verano, si bien los supermercados de Ibiza todavía ofrecen bolsas de plástico, cuando está claro que las bolsas de plástico matan a miles de tortugas marinas cada año, lo que provoca un aumento de la población de medusas, de las que se alimentan las tortugas. El nivel freático ha disminuido dramáticamente, ya que en los últimos prácticamente no hemos tenido nada de lluvia, pero aún así los propietarios de algunas casas todavía tienen jardines tropicales en sus villas y los turistas todavía no son conscientes del problema del agua.

Hay demasiado tráfico y casi ningún aparcamiento y el gobierno acaba de acordar hacer de toda Vara de Rey, en el centro de Ibiza, una zona peatonal, lo que significa que muchísimos restaurantes, tiendas y bares se verán perjudicados a causa del menor número de personas que vendrán a la ciudad porque no pueden aparcar.

Para mí, como madre de una niña de 14 años, lo más preocupante de todo es que veo que la generación más joven de aquí comienza a salir de marcha muy jóvenes, falsificando sus documentos de identidad (con el consentimiento de sus padres), quedándose despiertos hasta altas horas de la madrugada y durmiendo la mayor parte del día siguiente. A mí, como adolescente aquí en la isla hace años, mis padres me hicieron conseguirme un trabajo a los 15 años de modo que estuviera ocupada durante todo el día y cansada al terminar el día, lo que me mantuvo alejada de la escena nocturna durante algunos años más.

APARTE DE LO QUE YA ESTÁS HACIENDO CON LA PEGATINA DE ‘AHORRA AGUA’, ¿QUÉ MÁS PODEMOS HACER CADA UNO DE NOSOTROS PARA CONTRIBUIR A UNA MEJOR IBIZA? 40

Yo construiría un lugar con una enorme área común, con una biblioteca y sala de juegos, un área de arte, algunos ordenadores, tal vez una zona graffiti, y un gran parque de skate en frente, así como una pequeña sala de conciertos para permitir que los niños empiecen a crear algo fantástico a su alrededor.

Porque, a pesar de todos los maravillosos lugares al aire libre que tenemos aquí, no existe una instalación realmente buena para los adolescentes que los mantenga activos y saludables, en lugar de que quieran simplemente pasar el rato, fumar y comenzar a experimentar con drogas ya tan jóvenes, lo que yo atribuyo al hecho de que están aburridos. Yo también intentaría conseguir un sistema de transporte más barato y eficaz (como el Über), de modo que menos gente use el coche cuando está borracha o drogada. Este verano ha habido ya tantas fatalidades en la carretera y todas debidas a gente conduciendo bajo la influencia del alcohol o las drogas y tristemente muchas de estas personas eran muy jóvenes.

SI TUVIERAS UNA VARITA MÁGICA, ¿QUÉ TRES COSAS DE LA ISLA CAMBIARÍAS DE INMEDIATO? La lista es larga, pero para empezar haría desaparecer todos los enormes edificios de detrás de Botafoch, de modo que recuperemos las maravillosas vistas desde Talamanca a Ibiza. Y convertiría los horribles bloques de casas cuadradas en fincas y cambiaría las verjas de metal que la gente tiene en su propiedad por muros de piedra.

TU PLAYA, RESTAURANTE, BAR Y NIGHTCLUB FAVORITOS. YA SÉ QUE ES UNA PREGUNTA DIFÍCIL, PERO… Mi playa favorita es Playa de Levante, en Formentera.

Mi restaurante favorito es Can Suldat, en Es Canar.

Mi bar favorito es Bar 1805, en Ibiza ciudad.

Mi nightclub favorito era la terraza del Space, pero eso fue hace unos 10 años. Así que ahora no tengo un favorito, sólo una noche favorita que es Solomun en Pacha, los domingos. ¿IBIZA DENTRO DE 25 AÑOS? Bueno, si cambia tanto como ha cambiado en los últimos 25 años entonces yo iré a esconderme en Formentera, o quizás México. Hace 25 años mi padre se sentía ya terriblemente triste con todos los cambios. Ya sabes, antes podías ver la ciudad de Ibiza con total claridad desde Talamanca. No existían enormes edificios de por medio. Cuando comenzaron a construirlos, todos pensamos que se detendrían, ya que parecía el trabajo de un loco, o de muchos… y continuaron…

¿HJORDIS DENTRO DE 25 AÑOS? Ojalá que muy orgullosa de los logros de mis hijas y sintiéndome y viéndome tan estupendamente bien como mi madre, mi héroe.

DUMB, DUMBER, DUMBEST...

LOOKING AT WHAT IS GOING ON ALL OVER THE WORLD IT SEEMS THAT WHAT WAS IMPOSSIBLE JUST A FEW MONTHS AGO IS BECOMING REALITY AT THE SPEED OF LIGHT. Who would have thought that a man like Donald Trump would even be considered to become a candidate for the presidency of the United States of America, and now became the official candidate of the Republicans with a mere 40% of the Americans to vote for him in November, according to the latest surveys? Even with all the revelations about his person, his intrigues, the way he cheated himself moving up to build the ‘empire’ he calls his own it seems that almost half of the Americans don’t even care about it and truly believe the hype.

Same for Spain, after the elections, the re-elections and all that happened before it is still the same political ‘elite’ who has the power. Only because there is no other candidate able to represent this country in a better way does not mean we have to resign all efforts to have a better future.

Same same for Turkey, it is breathtaking at what speed the president, who demonstrably falsified his high school graduation and is therefore not even entitled to lead this country, is retroceding the constitution into a dictatorship, imprisoning all his enemies and calling for the death penalty to ultimately get rid of them.

Great Britain is leaving the European Community with a 52 - 48 % decision based on manipulated facts, leaving a whole country speechless on what is there to come. Maybe the outcome will benefit the islanders or not, the fact that it happened is somehow shocking, no?

It seems like we have become completely resistant to reason, even with a 24/7 access to all sorts of information we are more than ever manipulated by mass media and do not want to look behind the curtain. We are so busy with our own individual misery that we do not see the bigger picture, even Stephen Hawking said the other day that we humans should try to leave this planet before the leading elite will destroy it to maintain its lifestyle at any cost.

Here on Ibiza we right now live a scenario that is exemplary for what is happening on a global scale, not even 30 years ago this island was an almost undiscovered paradise for freethinkers, bohemians, hippies and artists of all kind. Today we deal with

more than 7 Million tourists trying to wiggle their way through the masses to get a room to sleep, a slot to park their rental car, a piece of beach to ‘relax’ (if you are able to ignore the hordes of ambulant vendors trying to sell you sunglasses, pirate CDs, ‘pareos’ or any kind of disgusting longdrinks made of questionable ingredients), a table in any restaurant or a place to stand on a dancefloor, recording the ‘incredible’ night with their smartphones to later recall this ‘incredible’ experience with the ones that could not make it.

Most of them save money the whole year round to be able to afford the long nights out, do not leave a penny on the island in terms of shopping or having a decent meal, they spend all their hard-earned money inside the clubs and return a few days later to their all-inclusive hotel. Or they have far too much money to spend and behave even worse, thinking the world is theirs because they can afford it.

And the worst is that most of them don’t give a shit, there are so many abusing our ‘freedom’ or what they think it to be to get the most out of their holiday without caring about anything or anybody. It seems like any values, moral limits or words like respect, education or compassion are non existent any more, and the ones coming here paying a fortune think to have the right to behave

as ever they want as this is Ibiza - the endless party island, going nuts 24/7.

Today i read in an English online portal that the situation in Ibiza is at its limit, Ibiza ‘could not support more tourists’ - means the message has arrived at mass media - at least one good news.

Well, that does not mean we are on the save side, but at least the problem is now public, and it might turn some people away from invading the island, plus the ones spending their holidays this season might not get the very best impression anyway.

When I saw the picture of the guy walking with his pants in his hands and his dick out daytime in Playa d’en Bossa i knew we have arrived at a peak that is not to be topped. Those people do not belong here, ‘whatever happens in Ibiza stays in Ibiza’?? No way José, those days are over in times of social media including live cams on FB, so we either take back control or we will get run over by hordes of abulic zombies converting our paradise in ‘The Walking Dead’ - and the world is our testimony, live and direct.

Don’t get me wrong, this is not a preacher’s words, I truly believe in freedom of expression, but under one rule - my freedom ends where yours begins - it’s as simple as that.

DUMB, DUMBER, DUMBEST...

ECHADO VISTAZO LO QUE ESTÁ SUCEDIENDO A LO LARGO DEL MUNDO PARECE QUE LO QUE ERA IMPOSIBLE HACE SÓLO UNOS MESES SE ESTÁ CONVIRTIENDO EN REALIDAD A LA VELOCIDAD DE LA LUZ. ¿Quién hubiera pensado que un hombre como Donald Trump pudiera incluso ser considerado para convertirse en candidato a la presidencia de los Estados Unidos de América y que ahora se haya convertido en el candidato oficial de los Republicanos con el mero 40% de los americanos votando por él en noviembre, de acuerdo con las encuestas más recientes? Incluso con todas las revelaciones acerca de su persona, sus intrigas, el hecho de cómo se engañó a sí mismo, ascendiendo para crear el ‘imperio’ que él llama suyo, parece no importarles a casi la mitad de los americanos y de verdad se creen todo el despliegue publicitario.

Lo mismo puede decirse de España, después de las elecciones, las reelecciones y todo lo que sucedió antes, es todavía la misma ‘élite’ política quien tiene el poder. Sólo porque no hay otro candidato capaz de representar a este país de una mejor manera no quiere decir que tengamos que abandonar todo esfuerzo de tener un futuro mejor.

Lo mismo con Turquía, es asombroso a qué velocidad el presidente, quien se ha demostrado falsificó su graduación en secundaria y que por lo tanto no está siquiera capacitado para gobernar ese país, está convirtiendo la constitución en una dictadura, encarcelando a todos sus enemigos y pidiendo la pena de muerte para finalmente librarse de ellos. Gran Bretaña abandona la Unión Europea con una decisión del 52 – 48% basada en datos manipulados, dejando sin habla a todo un país mientras piensa en lo que está por venir. Quizá el resultado beneficie a los isleños o tal vez no, el hecho de que haya sucedido es de alguna manera estremecedor, ¿no?

Parece que nos hayamos vuelto completamente reacios a razonar, incluso con acceso a tiempo completo a todo tipo de información estamos más que nunca manipulados por los medios de comunicación y no queremos mirar detrás de la cortina. Además, estamos tan ocupados con nuestra propia miseria individual que no vemos el panorama general.

Incuso Stephen Hawking dijo el otro día que nosotros humanos deberíamos intentar dejar este planeta antes de que la élite al mando lo destruya para mantener a toda costa su estilo de vida.

Aquí en Ibiza ahora mismo vivimos un escenario que es ejemplar por lo que está pasando a una escala global. No hace ni siquiera 30 años esta isla era un paraíso sin descubrir para pensadores libres, bohemios, hippies y artistas de todo tipo. Hoy en día nos enfrentamos a más de 7 millones de turistas que se abren camino a través de las masas para conseguir una habitación para dormir, una plaza para aparcar su coche de alquiler, un pedacito de playa para ‘relajarse’ (si eres capaz de ignorar las hordas de vendedores ambulantes intentando venderte gafas de sol, CDs piratas, ‘pareos’ o cualquier tipo de combinados hechos con cuestionables ingredientes), una mesa en cualquier restaurante o un lugar en el que ponerse en la pista de baile, grabando en sus smartphones la ‘increíble’ noche para luego recordar la ‘increíble’ experiencia con los que no pudieron venir.

La mayoría de ellos ahorran dinero durante el año entero para poder permitirse las largas noches de fiesta, no dejan un céntimo en la isla en términos de compras o de una comida decente, se gastan todo el dinero que han ganado con su duro esfuerzo en los clubs y vuelven unos cuantos días después a sus hoteles con todo incluido. O bien tienen demasiado dinero para gastar y se comportan todavía peor, pensando que el mundo es suyo porque se lo pueden permitir.

Y lo peor es que a la mayoría de ellos no les importa una mierda, hay tantos que abusan de nuestra ‘libertad’ o de lo que ellos creen que es, para aprovechar al máximo sus vacaciones sin importarles nada ni nadie. Parece que cualquier tipo de valores, límites morales o palabras como respeto, educación o compasión no existan más y aquellos que vienen aquí pagando una fortuna piensan que tienen el derecho de comportarse como quieran, ya que esto es Ibiza – la isla de la fiesta interminable, desfasándose a todas horas, sin parar.

Hoy he leído en un portal online inglés que la situación en Ibiza está al límite, Ibiza ‘no puede soportar más turistas’ –significa que el mensaje ha llegado a los medios de comunicación- por lo menos una buena noticia. Bueno, eso no significa que estemos a salvo, pero por lo menos ahora el problema es público y es posible que haga que alguna gente cambie de idea acerca de invadir la isla, además de que los que pasan sus vacaciones aquí esta temporada es posible que, de todas formas, no se lleven la mejor impresión.

Cuando vi la fotografía del tío caminando con los calzoncillos en la mano y la polla al aire en pleno día en Playa d’en Bossa supe que habíamos llegado a un punto que no se puede sobrepasar.

Esa gente no pertenece aquí, ¿¿’lo que sucede en Ibiza se queda en Ibiza’?? Ni hablar, esos días se han terminado en estos tiempos de los medios sociales, incluyendo las live cams en facebook.

Así que o bien retomamos el control o nos veremos arrollados por hordas de zombies involuntarios, convirtiendo nuestro paraíso en ‘The Walking Dead’ – y el mundo es nuestro testigo, en vivo y en directo. No me entiendas mal, estas no son las palabras de un predicador, yo verdaderamente creo en la libertad de expresión, pero bajo una regla – mi libertad termina donde empieza la tuya – es tan simple como eso.

‘How low can you go?’ I ask myself, completely lost as this whole day seems to rinse down my hands like sand on a beach I decide to drive back home, finally eat something and hopefully find the internet operative to get going with the initial job I had in mind this morning.

Somehow around 3 p.m... a car without gasoline does not work, but arriving at the gas station I find a huge bulk of cars waiting to get a place in no particular order with two of the first rows empty but no way to get through. Waiting for a free place I look at the pricelist and wonder why the same gasoline is one price one day, another one the other day, and not only a few cent but often a notable rise and, obviously a lot more rare, a decline.

One guy tries to pull the hose trigger several times to refill his rental car getting slightly angry while the lady working at the station tries to tell him to put the hose back and come in to pay first, then refill. Clever as I am I leave my car, walk into the station while the guy in front of me is still refilling and pay my load, but as I get back to my place the one behind overtook me and was about to fill his tank with my diesel. The fact that his car was gasoline and my face made him stop and go back to behind my car so I finally get to pull the hose and - pour diesel all over me as the hose was not empty from the gentle person using it before me.

Arriving home there is no electricity as the cables are being renewed in my area and something must have gone wrong, leaving me with two fridges and a freezer full of food slowly heating up and, obviously, no internet... Calling to Gesa (the company in charge of the electrical supply) I am being told that the reparation has finished this morning (I didn’t even know it was taking place) and that I have electricity at home... ‘No’ I say, ‘I stand in front of my house and there is no power’ - the answer is ‘We can give you the number of our emergency service, but this is at your own cost’ so I decide to wait, finding myself in total silence, no chance to work on my computer, and both fridges getting warmer and warmer. Feeling more helpless than ever I decide to take a nap, and guess what? I once more forgot to eat something...

The heat at 5 pm is already oppressing, but as I wake up a few hours later I feel like being run over by a truck, the sun went down and there is no light (not even at the end of the tunnel...).

The optimist I am I go a round in the house to light some candles, finding the situation almost romantic, until the phone rings...

The call comes from a good friend and promoter, it was the opening night and I had the duty to go and see him - we are family.

Still being early I decide to take a shower, get ready and leave the (dark) house but - no electricity, no water. Yeah right, a lick and a promise should do the job, brushing my teeth and some gel give me hope that this day will have a happy ending.

Not far away from home there is a good restaurant where the possibility of having a decent lunch (yes I was all of a sudden very aware that I had eaten nothing during the last 24 hours) was very realistic, or at least I thought so. The food was excellent, but to even get started I already had to drink 3 beers and one welcome chupito - Limoncello - biiiig mistake....

Next inconvenience was the music. Playing a restaurant does not mean to feed your ego as you would play in front of 5.000 clubbers at peak time on a main stage, it needs some sensitivity and an ‘as-perfect-as-possible’ knowledge of the music you got, at best honed over many years of experience. To read the audience is step two, you obviously can not rock a restaurant, to make

people shake a leg under the table might be the best result you get out of this gig, so accept it and go with the flow. Considering myself a member of the same profession I first and (worst) always - and I mean always - have at least one ear listening to what music is being played and how, and if the selection is careless and the mixes are, if anything, rudimentary my heart breaks more with every wrong beat. As nowadays everybody seems to be DJ and can (almost) get away with some decent equipment by pressing the Sync button hoping that the machine will do miracles it is no wonder that the payment for a gig in such establishments can easily be less than two free drinks, discrediting a whole professional branch while torturing an audience you are ‘paid’ to entertain.

After another two beers and a second chupito - ‘this time no Limoncello for me’ I insist - as a good foundation for a night out I decide to leave this musical solitude and reach out to listen to some real beats in a real club. At the last roundabout before arriving to the club I see three cars coming closer from three directions, one being the classic Ibizencan car and driver, one a rental car with a whole family inside and another one with loud music, packed with clubbers on their way to warm up for the night.

This is a recipe for disaster I think by myself, the Ibizenco having all time in the world, the tourist not knowing where to go as the road signs are written in Catalan (the language of Cataluña) and his island plan is in Castellano (means Spanish) plus he probably never took a roundabout in his life, and the careless clubber only having in mind to not run into a police control - you don’t need to be a clairvoyant to foresee the possible catastrophic outcomes of this encounter...

Happy that nothing happened I drive along the highway, passing endless cars parked in second lane to my right, they call it ‘botellón’ here and gather before entering a club on the parking lot listening to music and drink as much as they can in a short period as the price of one longdrink in a club can easily excel the cost of a whole bottle of spirit plus all lemonade and a few plastic cups to ‘get into the groove’.

As it is the opening night and I meet some friends in order to get them all in we have to take the long way and queue up at the guest list. The perceived time is about 3 hours until we reach the beautiful lady at the computer and we finally get to enter dancefloor heaven, or that is what it’s supposed to be. After a rigorous body check we arrive on the first dancefloor, realizing that, due to it being the opening night, the club is rammed with people.

Different floors do not help to be able to move, on top you can’t see the floor anyway when there are too many people and invisible steps can be all but amusing.

Losing all my friends came next, so I decided to visit the booth and show my respect as one of my friends comes back looking at me with two beers in his hand. He tells me he went up to another floor, passed a security and arrived at a tiny bar right next to the main dancefloor where he ordered two beers and two chupitos.

After the drinks were served he took out a 100 Euro note and put in on the bar, the girl behind took the note and both looked at each other, him waiting for the change and her waiting for... ‘Is there something wrong?’ he asked, and she answered him politely ‘there are 20 Euros missing’. And you know what he did? He pulled out another note of 20, gave it to her and left with the drinks.

‘Are you mad??’ I ask him, ‘why didn’t you give back the drinks, took back your money and left? This was for sure some special VIP bar where you shouldn’t even be able to get there...’ ‘I was too perplexed and took off’ he replied. The two chupitos obviously didn’t make it very far, but looking at the beer he gave me I think ‘wow, this is about 40 Euros then’. Don’t get me wrong, this is not the standard price at any bar in the club, there you only pay 23 Euros for a longdrink - WTF? Finally united with all my friends one of them tells me his story - he paid a drink with a 500 Euro note, put the change in the small pocket in front of his jeans and, as he went to the bar to get another one, he realizes the money is gone, stolen in the crowd.

There were a few more incidents that same night and, as I heard later, it happens in a lot more places. Lesson to learn? Never leave your money unattended in a club or any where lots of people come together and the capacity is exhausted, nor your phone or anything worthy, and if you see somebody stealing go get a security immediately.

It is 06.30 am - again - history repeats, I just lived another trivial 24 hours on Ibiza and, believe it or not, I loved it. All of it.

With all its crazy people, fucked up minds, the ignorant and egoistic ones as well as all the true friends, great spirits and the love I got introduced to on (and by) this island. I could go on forever, obviously this day was a fictious one (or not) and any similarities with living persons or places are totally fictious too (or not), but I somehow will have to bring this monster article to an end. If you have read it all through and still like the idea of not only coming as a tourist but make a living here then you are very welcome to join the club, you have been carefully introduced by now, the rest is up to you.

¿HASTA DONDE HEMOS LLEGADO? PARA ESTAR TOTALMENTE AL TANTO DE LO QUE SIGUE DEBERÍAS PRIMERO CONSEGUIR LA PRIMERA EDICIÓN DE ESTE VERANO Y LEER EL ARTÍCULO CON LAS PRIMERAS 12 HORAS, O TAMBIÉN PUEDES LEERLO ONLINE, EN NUESTRA PÁGINA WEB. ASÍ QUE, AQUÍ TIENES LAS 12 HORAS SIGUIENTES DE UN DÍA NORMAL EN IBIZA: Son las tres de la tarde... Un coche sin gasolina no funciona, pero al llegar a la gasolinera me encuentro con un enorme volumen de coches esperando para conseguir repostar sin un orden en particular, con dos o tres filas vacías, pero sin manera posible de llegar hasta ellas. Mientras espero por un lugar vacío echo un vistazo a la lista de precios y me pregunto por qué la misma gasolina tiene un precio un día y otro precio al día siguiente. Y no estamos hablando de tan sólo unos céntimos de diferencia, sino a menudo un aumento notable y, obviamente mucho menos frecuente, de una disminución. Delante de mí un tío intenta varias veces hacer que la manguera funcione para poder llenar el depósito de su coche de alquiler, un tanto enfadado mientras la mujer que trabaja en la gasolinera le dice que deje la manguera y que vaya primero a pagar, después repostar.

Tan listo como soy, dejo mi coche y camino hacia la gasolinera mientras el tío delante de mí está todavía repostando y pago por mi combustible, pero cuando vuelvo a mi coche me doy cuenta de que el que estaba detrás de mí me ha cogido el sitio y está a punto de llenar su depósito con mi diesel. El hecho de que su coche es gasolina y mi cara lo hacen detenerse y volver a su lugar, así que por fin consigo llegar a la manguera y –echarme el diesel por encima, ya que la amable persona que la había utilizado antes de mí no ha vaciado la manguera por completo. ‘¿Sé puede llegar más bajo?’ me pregunto a mí mismo, completamente perdido ya que todo este día parece escapárseme de las manos como arena en una playa.

Así que decido volver a casa, comer algo por fin y con suerte encontrarme que internet funciona para conseguir empezar el trabajo original que tenía en mente esta mañana.

Al llegar a casa no hay electricidad -ya que están renovando los cables en mi zona y algo ha debido de salir mal- dejándome con dos neveras y un congelador llenos de comida que se está calentando lentamente y, obviamente, nada de internet… Cuando llamo a Gesa (la compañía que se encarga del suministro eléctrico) me dicen que las reparaciones terminaron esta mañana y que tengo electricidad en casa… ‘No’ les digo, ‘Estoy delante de mi casa y no hay electricidad’ –la respuesta es ‘Le podemos dar el teléfono de nuestro servicio de emergencias, pero el coste correrá por su cuenta’, así que decido esperar, encontrándome en silencio total, sin posibilidad de trabajar en el ordenador y con dos neveras calentándose cada vez más. Sintiéndome más impotente que nunca decido echarme una siesta y, ¿adivina qué? Una vez más me olvido de comer algo…

El calor a las 5 de la tarde es ya agobiante y cuando me despierto un par de horas más tarde me siento como si me hubiera atropellado un camión. El sol se ha puesto ya y no hay luz (ni siquiera al final del túnel…). Optimista como soy, me pongo a encender unas velas por toda la casa, empezando a ver la situación como casi romántica, hasta que el teléfono suena… La llamada es de un buen amigo y promotor. Era la noche de inauguración y yo tenía el deber de ir y verlo – somos una familia. Ya que todavía es temprano decido darme una ducha, arreglarme y dejar la (oscura) casa, pero –no hay electricidad, no hay agua. Claro que sí; Bueno, lo mínimamente básico debería valer, cepillarme los dientes y un poco de gomina me dan esperanza de que este día pueda tener un final feliz.

No lejos de casa hay un buen restaurante donde la posibilidad de tomarme un almuerzo decente (sí, de repente me siento muy consciente de que no he comido nada durante las últimas 24 horas) es muy realista, o al menos eso pensé yo. La comida es excelente, pero para poder empezar me tuve que tomar 3 cervezas y un chupito de bienvenida – Limoncello – graaaave error…

El siguiente inconveniente es la música. Tocar en un restaurante no tiene la intención de alimentar tu ego como lo haría tocar en frente de 5.000 clubbers en el momento álgido de la noche en el escenario principal, se necesita más sensibilidad y un conocimiento ‘tan perfecto como sea posible’ de la música que tienes, en el mejor de los casos perfeccionada a lo largo de años de experiencia. Leer a tu audiencia es el segundo paso, obviamente no puedes sacudir un restaurante, conseguir que la gente mueva la pierna bajo la mesa es posiblemente el mejor resultado que vas a conseguir con esta actuación, así que acéptalo y déjate llevar. Considerándome a mí mismo un miembro de la misma profesión, yo primero y (peor) siempre –y quiero decir siempre- tengo por lo menos un oído escuchando qué música está sonando y cómo, y si la selección es descuidada y los mixes son, en todo caso, rudimentarios se me parte el corazón con cada mal beat. Ya que hoy en día parece que cualquiera puede ser DJ y puede (casi) zafarse con algún equipo decente, presionando el botón Sync y esperando que la máquina haga milagros, no es de sorprender que el pago por una actuación en este tipo de establecimientos pueda fácilmente ser menos que dos copas gratis, desacreditando a toda una rama profesional mientras se tortura a una audiencia a la que te ‘pagan’ por entretener.

Otras dos cervezas y un segundo chupito - ‘nada de Limoncello para mí esta vez’, insisto – como buena base para una noche de fiesta, decido dejar esta soledad musical y salgo para escuchar ritmos de verdad en un club de verdad. En la última rotonda antes de llegar al club veo tres coches acercándose desde tres direcciones diferentes, uno de ellos siendo el clásico coche y conductor ibicenco, otro un coche de alquiler con una familia entera en su interior y el otro con la música a tope, lleno de clubbers de camino a entrar en calor para empezar la noche de marcha. Es una receta para el desastre, me digo a mí mismo, el ibicenco con todo el tiempo del mundo, el turista sin saber adónde ir ya que todas las señales están escritas en catalán (el idioma de Cataluña) y su mapa de la isla está en castellano -eso sin contar que probablemente nunca haya tomado una rotonda en su vida- y el descuidado clubber a quién lo único que le preocupa es no encontrarse con un control policial –no necesitas ser un vidente para ver el posible resultado catastrófico de este encuentro…

Feliz de que nada haya sucedido, conduzco a lo largo de la carretera, pasando por los interminables coches a mi derecha aparcados en doble fila; Aquí lo llaman ‘botellón’, se juntan en el aparcamiento antes de entrar al club, escuchando música y bebiendo tanto como pueden en un corto espacio de tiempo, ya que los precios de las copas en un club pueden fácilmente exceder el coste de una botella entera de cualquier bebida alcohólica, más toda la limonada y unos cuantos vasos de plástico necesarios para ‘entrar en la onda’.

Ya que es la noche de inauguración y que me encuentro con unos amigos para que todos puedan entrar al club, tenemos que tomar la ruta más larga y hacer cola en la lista de invitados. Parece que pasen unas 3 horas antes de que alcancemos a la guapa chica del ordenador y que por fin podamos entrar al paraíso de la pista de baile, o eso es lo que se supone que sea. Después de un riguroso cacheo corporal llegamos a la primera pista de baile, el club está abarrotado de gente. Las diferentes pistas no ayudan a poder moverse, por encima tampoco puedes ver la pista cuando hay demasiada gente y los escalones invisibles son cualquier cosa menos divertidos.

Lo siguiente es perder a todos mis amigos, así que decido visitar la cabina y presentar mis respetos cuando uno de mis amigos vuelve buscándome con dos cervezas en la mano. Me dice que fue a otra pista, pasó por seguridad y llegó hasta un pequeño bar justo al lado de la pista principal donde pidió dos cervezas y dos chupitos. Después de que le sirvieran las bebidas sacó un billete de 100 euros y lo puso encima de la barra, la chica cogió el billete y ambos se miraron, él esperando por el cambio y ella esperando por… ‘¿Pasa algo?’ preguntó mi amigo, a lo que ella respondió educadamente ‘Faltan 20 euros’. Y ¿sabes lo que hizo él? Sacó otro billete de 20 euros, se lo dio y se fue con las bebidas. ‘¿Estás loco?’ le pregunto, ‘¿por qué no devolviste las bebidas, cogiste tu dinero y te fuiste? Sin duda este era algún tipo de bar VIP al que ni siquiera deberías haber podido acceder…’ ‘Estaba demasiado pasmado’ respondió. Los dos chupitos evidentemente no llegaron muy lejos, pero mirando la cerveza que me dio pensé ‘guau, entonces esto son unos 40 euros’. No me entiendas mal, este no es el precio estándar en cualquier bar del club, allí ‘sólo’ pagas 23 euros por una copa -¡¿qué coño?!

Reunido por fin con todos mis amigos uno de ellos me cuenta su historia – pagó una bebida con un billete de 500 euros, puso el cambio en el bolsillito de delante de los vaqueros y cuando fue a pillar otra copa se dio cuenta de que el dinero había desaparecido, robado en medio de la muchedumbre. Hubo unos cuantos incidentes más aquella misma noche y, según escuché más tarde, sucede en muchos otros lugares. ¿La lección que aprendemos?

Nunca pierdas tu dinero de vista en un club o en cualquier otro lugar donde se junte mucha gente y la capacidad está al límite, ni tampoco tu móvil o cualquier cosa de valor, y si ves a alguien robando busca a un seguridad de inmediato.

Son las 6:30 de la mañana –otra vez- la historia se repite, he vivido otras triviales 24 horas en Ibiza y, me creas o no, me encanta. Todo ello. De todo corazón. Con toda su gente loca, sus mentes jodidas, los egoístas, los ignorantes, así como todos los amigos verdaderos, excelentes espíritus y el amor que me mostraron en (y por) esta isla. Podría seguir interminablemente, evidentemente este día era ficticio (o no) y cualquier similitud con personas o lugares reales es también completamente ficticio (o no), pero de alguna manera tenía que terminar este gigantesco artículo.

Si lo has leído hasta el final y todavía te gusta la idea de no sólo venir como turista, sino de ganarte la vida aquí, entonces estás más que bienvenido a unirte a club, a estas alturas ya has sido cuidadosamente presentado, el resto es cosa tuya.

SOMETHING EXCITING AND UNSTOPPABLE IS HAPPENING ON THE ELECTRONIC MUSIC AXIS BETWEEN BUENOS AIRES, SAO PAULO, COLOGNE AND BERLIN… FUNNY IT WOULD SOUND & FEEL LIKE ALL OF THIS COULD BE TAILOR MADE FOR IBIZA AS WELL. THESE ARE THE GOOD TIMES CAUSE THERE’S A RUMBLE IN THE JUNGLE THAT’S BIG ENOUGH TO ROCK EVEN THIS ROCK. ELECTRONIC MUSIC IS BECOMING INTELLIGENT AGAIN, IT SEEMS. AND THAT HAS TO DO WITH A HIGHER LEVEL OF PERCEPTION AND AWARENESS IN MORE THAN ONE WAY. While most of us spent the better part of our nights dancing away in shamelessly overpriced, rather overrated indoor venues to the same old same old (that has been trying to reproduce itself for maybe a bit too long now), wrapped in neverending new marketing bubbles by corporate suits and hyped by the same faceless protagonists for decades now, there’s a new, a different sort of club based spirituality emerging at the melting point of all the above mentioned genre descriptions… and its slowly but surely claiming the (more intelligent) dancefloors, DJ playlists and festivals around the world.

Genre dons like Nicola Cruz, Chancha Via Circuito or El Buho have either played a main slot at SONAR already and/or graced the infamous Boiler Room with one of their impeccable sets made of previously mostly unheard goodness. Labels like ZZK Records, Fertil Discos, Tropical Twista, Regional (just to name a few) deliver the unfiltered goodness, picked up, licensed & spread globally by imprints like Project Mooncircle, VoooDooHop or Katermukke just to name a few. Hip media like Thump, XLR8R and the likes picked up on the vibe a while ago, hence the first innocence of the whole movement is on the way out the door already - meanwhile, the eyes and ears of the club world are honing in.

We are talking (and hearing) mostly rather effortless, organic credibility here, the contemporary essence of all things electronica mixed with credible folklorical heritage. Yes, you CAN dance to these beats… but you don’t HAVE to. And if you do, don’t stress yourself. 100 bpm will do mostly, maybe just a pinch more - in fact that’s quite fast already to those in the know. And people dance to THAT, you ask? Yes they do. Meanwhile, they are legions.

And not only does it feel better - it looks better as well.

Even here on the (not really so) white isle, you can see some of the results every Sunday during “Acid Sundays” at HEART. The man they call Acid Pauli, halfgod of all tribes and hailing from a certain (rather nerdy) breed of the vivid German underground electronica circuit, is the first “big name” on the international 10.2

scene (and the best example) to embrace global beats & vibes (in particular south- and central American) with the adequate intensity…and a peaceful smile. Well informed sources claim the latter is mainly down to the fact that he is quite aware of the goldmine he has just drilled into. Bless him.

This music won’t rub on your leg or jump in your face. All these years you were being fooled into believing that it has to be like that. But this vibe dares to make a big difference right there.

Mainly delivered simply as a beautiful aural offer riding a beat, pleasant for the ones who care about authenticity, and nurturing to those that have been dehydrating in the desert of Tech house, Trance and EDM monotony for just a bit too long, waiting for something to happen that brings the real heartfelt smiles back on the floors. Something that they can shake a leg to but at the same time makes them feel a precious part of the bigger picture.

While this ain’t “the next sound” of “the next season”, it’s not even a musical genre really, the overall vibe (and attitude to go with it) feels like big ancient circles closing in. “World Music”, it seems, has grown up at last. From the early days of hippy stereotypes (still very popular among the consulting resistant not only but especially in Ibiza) via a sort of unreflected “solidarity at any price” culture mix (aka “passive exploitive colonialism”), we have at last arrived at a point where a growing number of gifted creators are effectively marrying their ancient local cultural heritage with contemporary electronica (we won’t mention “club sound” 58

here particularly as that is just a small part of electronica - a fact that should be remembered especially here, in this oh so called “capital of electronic music”).

Along with the musical spirituality, there’s something else… and here is where perception & awareness comes in again. Back in the days, you had a party. A cool event in the best cases. Way way before parties, and these days again, it’s rather called “ritual”.

In most cases it does feel like one, setting the mood for a unique collective vibe that needs no pronunciation. The sound - you guessed it - could be described as rather tribal, with the crowd attending coming from all camps & all ages more or less. It’s not about fashion, it is about awareness. Inner journeys. Likemindedness. Spiritual kinship in a way. And in that sense, the whole movement has something very radical and political about it. Not to mention a totally different set up of mood enhancement as well of course.

La Granja, the latest (and very casually hip) addition to Ibiza’s slowlife agroturismo hotel landscape, focuses almost completely on a special music policy in that spirit and has just seen a one week mini festival called “Music & Rituals - the Habitas experience” for those in the know, featuring an international roster of illusive DJ names like Peter Power, Sabo, or Pablo Sanchez. Every Sunday of the season, La Granja presents their own holistic version of such a ritual, adressing all senses. Burning Man meets Belize meets Bali meets Benirras - go figure…

The Malanga Café in Ibiza Town holds a regular tropical night hosted by Cris Kai - while the most prominent event in terms of this new spirit is called WooMooN. Once a week on a Wednesday, the aptly chosen Cova Santa location turns into a psychedelic jungle including all kinds of spiritual performances with genre darlings like Nicola Cruz, Jhon Montoya, Behrouz, Chancha Via Circuito, Crussen and Martha Van Straaten. All of them representing a different and unique approach to what might well be a paradigm shift in terms of decently matured dance culture.

No surprise that in terms of logistics, marketing and promotion somehow, all roads lead to Berlin. Tastemakers like Martha Van Straaten, Lotte Ahoi and collectives such as Urban Cosmonaut Radio or Laut&Luise plus a string of other individuals & collectives gather sound from all corners of the world to cater to the vastly growing demand inside and outside of Europe.

Further up the BPM ladder, acts like Matanza or Dengue Dengue Dengue (who just released a monster of a new album called “Siete Raices”) easily manage to smash even the club worlds most tech oriented main rooms with a bassheavy mezcla weighing tons.

While the Latin American vibe drills in heavy from the west, Eastern influence is long on the way to complete the tribe in a truly global way. Turkey-based head honcho Oceanvs Orientalis, spearhead of the new oriental hip, is this weeks special guest for Acid Pauli’s “Acid Sundays” at HEART… the next chapter is already being written it seems. In fact, quite some Latin American based producers already have a healthy amount of Eastern percussion & harmonies woven into their sounds… and are always keen on reciting & refining German electronica with an Indie approach.

The plot thickens as circles are closing in from all sides.

This could be the first wave of a healthier countermovement, opposing the fake, bling, superficiality and supergreed that the “old” clubworld (and with it the music) stands for/has changed into nowadays. Ahora hay un nuevo, un diferente tipo de club basado en la espiritualidad, surgiendo en el punto de fusión de todas las descripciones de género mencionadas anteriormente… y, sin prisa pero sin pausa, está reivindicando las (más inteligentes) pistas de baile, los playlists de los DJs y los festivales del mundo entero.

Genre dons como Nicola Cruz, Chancha Via Circuito o El Buho ya han tocado en un horario principal en el SONAR y/o han agraciado al infame Boiler Room con uno de sus impecables sets hechos de previo y mayormente inédito buen material. Sellos como ZZK Records, Fertil Discos, Tropical Twista o Regional (por mencionar sólo algunos) entregan lo bueno sin filtro, recogido, autorizado y repartido globalmente por ediciones como Project Mooncircle, VoooDooHop o Katermukke, para citar tan sólo unos cuantos. Los medios hip como Thump, XLR8R y demás por el estilo se dieron cuenta de la onda hace algún tiempo, de ahí que la inocencia inicial de todo el movimiento esté ya de camino de salida – mientras tanto, los ojos y oídos del mundo de clubs están apuntando hacia allí.

Estamos hablando (y escuchando) en su mayoría sin esfuerzo, credibilidad orgánica aquí, la esencia contemporánea de todas las cosas electrónica mezcladas con una herencia folclórica creíble.

Sí, PUEDES bailar al ritmo de estos beats… pero no TIENES que hacerlo. Y si lo haces, no te estreses. Habitualmente 100 bpm serán suficientes, quizás tan sólo una pizca más – de hecho, eso ya es bastante rápido para aquellos conocedores. ¿Y la gente baila ESO?, te preguntas. Sí, lo hacen. De hecho, son multitudes.

Y no solamente se siente mejor – también tiene mejor apariencia.

Incluso aquí en la (no realmente tan) blanca isla, puedes ver algunos de los resultados cada domingo durante “Acid Sundays” en el HEART. El hombre al que llaman Acid Pauli, semidiós de todas las tribus y proveniente de una cierta (más bien nerdy) estirpe del vívido circuito underground alemán de música electrónica, es el primer “gran nombre” en la escena internacional (y el mejor ejemplo) para acoger la onda y los ritmos globales (en particular de Sur y Centro América) con la intensidad adecuada… y una apacible sonrisa.

Fuentes bien informadas afirman que esto último se debe sobre todo al hecho de que es bien consciente de la mina de oro en la que acaba de perforar. ¡Bendito sea!

Esta música no se te pega a las caderas ni te abofetea en la cara.

Todos esos años te engañaron haciéndote creer que tiene que ser así. Pero esta onda se atreve a marcar la diferencia ahí mismo. En su mayoría entregada simplemente como una bella ofrenda auditiva a caballo de un ritmo, placentero para aquellos a quienes les importa la autenticidad y alimentando a aquellos que han estado deshidratados en el desierto de la monotonía del tech house, trance y EDM por ya demasiado tiempo, esperando que suceda algo que traiga las verdaderas sonrisas sinceras de vuelta a las pistas. Algo que ellos puedan bailar, pero que al mismo tiempo los haga sentirse una preciosa parte del panorama general.

Pese a que este no es “el próximo sonido” o “la próxima temporada”, lo cierto es que ni siquiera es un género musical, la onda general (y la actitud que la acompaña) se siente como grandes círculos ancestrales que se cierran. La “World Music”, parece, se ha hecho mayor por fin. Desde los primeros tiempos de los estereotipos hippies (todavía muy popular entre la consultoría, resistiendo no sólo pero en especial en Ibiza) a través de una serie de mix cultural irreflexivo de “solidaridad a cualquier precio” (aka “colonialismo explotador pasivo”), hemos llegado por fin a un punto en el que un número creciente de talentosos creadores están uniendo efectivamente su herencia cultural ancestral local con la música electrónica contemporánea (no vamos a mencionar aquí el “sonido de club”, sobretodo porque es una pequeña parte de la música electrónica – un hecho que debería recordarse especialmente aquí, en esta así llamada “capital de la música electrónica”).

Junto con la espiritualidad musical existe algo más… y aquí es donde vuelven a aparecer la percepción y la concientización.

En los buenos tiempos, hacías una fiesta. Un evento cool en el mejor de los casos. Mucho, mucho antes de las fiestas, y de aquellos tiempos, se le llamaba más bien “ritual”. En la mayoría de los casos era como uno, creando el ambiente para una onda colectiva única que no necesita pronunciación. El sonido –lo has adivinado- podría describirse como fundamentalmente tribal, con el público presente viniendo de, más o menos, todos los campos y de todas las edades. No se trata de moda, se trata de conciencia.

Viajes internos. Afinidad mental. Afinidad espiritual de alguna manera. Y, en ese sentido, todo el movimiento posee algo muy radical y muy político. Eso sin mencionar, por supuesto, también un establecimiento totalmente diferente de la mejoría del humor.

La Granja, la última (y muy casualmente hip) incorporación al paisaje de hotel de agroturismo de la slowlife de Ibiza, se centra casi por completo en una política musical muy especial en ese espíritu y ya ha visto un mini festival de una semana de duración llamado “Music & Rituals – la experiencia Habitas” para aquellos conocedores, presentando una alineación internacional de ilusorios nombres de DJs como Peter Power, Sabo o Pablo Sanchez.

Cada domingo de la temporada, La Granja presenta su propia versión holística de tal ritual, dirigiéndose a todos los sentidos.

Mientras que la onda de Latino América taladra poderosamente desde el este, la influencia oriental está desde hace largo en camino para completar la tribu de una manera verdaderamente global. El mandamás radicado en Turquía Oceanvs Orientalis, encabezando la nueva onda oriental, es el invitado especial de esta semana del “Acid Sundays” de Acid Pauli en el HEART… el próximo capítulo parece que se está escribiendo ya. De hecho, bastantes productores radicados en Latino América ya poseen una saludable cantidad de harmonías y percusiones orientales integrándose en sus sonidos… y están siempre ansiosos en recitar y mejorar la electrónica alemana con un enfoque indie.

La trama se complica a medida que los círculos se cierran desde todos los lados.

Esta podría ser la primera oleada de un contramovimiento más saludable, oponiéndose a la falsedad, ostentación, superficialidad y superavaricia que el “viejo” mundo de los clubs (y con este la música) representa/se ha transformado hoy en día. HELLO JAMES & RICHARD, EVERYTHING HAPPENS FOR A REASON AND LIFE ITSELF GOT US IN CONTACT SO IT IS OBVIOUS THAT WE DO AN INTERVIEW WITH YOU GUYS. ON TOP I AM A BIG FAN OF YOUR MUSIC, SO WE WANT TO FIND OUT MORE ABOUT YOU, YOUR RELATIONSHIP TO IBIZA AND MORE. FIRST TELL US HOW YOU TWO CAME TOGETHER, I KNOW IT HAPPENED ON IBIZA? Yes we met here in Ibiza 14 years ago. We both arrived with a box of records and a dream shared by so many people each year; to make it as DJs in Ibiza. 2001/2 were great years for that, and lots of now famous DJs were doing the same – Jamie Jones, Lee Foss, Dyed Soundorom to name a few. We played a few gigs together that summer, but Audiojack didn’t really start until a few years later when we lived together in Leeds. Ibiza was the catalyst though.

HOW DID YOU COME TO MUSIC IN THE FIRST PLACE? Jamie: My dad is a keyboard player so there was always music and equipment in the house so I learned the ropes quite young but didn’t really start getting into music heavily until my early teens when I’d copy tapes of my parents and their friends and listen to it on my paper round.

Rich: My grandad was in a band in the 50s and 60s. He worked hard and played harder. My mum recalls regularly stepping over passed out people in hallways on her way to school. I loved watching him play the piano. He was my hero growing up, which maybe explains a lot! My foray into electronic music started in my early teens with rave tapes on my Walkman during the school day, and pumped out of older boy-racer friend’s cars on a night.

YOU ARE BOTH BASED IN IBIZA - HOW DOES THAT WORK FOR YOU? The more we’ve travelled the less important our geographical base has become. All we really need to do what we love is an airport with decent European connections and the internet.

So when we were deciding where to move after Leeds the most important factor we considered was our quality of life. Even after coming here for 20 years, living here for a few we still get that special feeling when landing home to Ibiza. It’s hard to explain, unless you know it, then it needs no words…

HOW DO YOU SEE THE MUSICAL DIVERSITY ON THE ISLAND? There’s limited diversity compared to a big city where you can find all different kinds of scenes from Jazz to Hip-Hop, Classical to Rock etcetera but it has a rich diversity within the electronic music scene with everyone and anyone coming to perform over the summer months. Ibiza is the undisputed house and techno capital in summer, and the line ups are immense in grandeur, yet many of the big clubs still lack imagination with their line ups. The same DJs every year since forever. With so many talented artists making music these days it’s sad that so few get the chance to perform on this big stage, with line ups often picked by management companies and agents. It’s reminiscent of corporate businesses and ‘jobs for the boys’. It would be great to see more diversity, and promoters taking more chances…

TELL US ABOUT YOUR LABEL GRUUV. Gruuv is a platform for us to express who we are and what we’re into through a different medium to our music productions or DJ sets. It’s a reflection of what we’re into at the time within the realms of house, techno and the odd indulgence of electronica. We operate very much a quality over quantity approach which is easy to maintain because we’re not just interested in making money out of it, we just want to showcase and support the music and artists that we love. If people like it and buy it, great, but if not it doesn’t matter as long as we’re happy with the consistency of quality.

WHAT IS YOUR ‘LEITMOTIF’ IN LIFE? Jamie: Don’t worry about things you can’t control.

Rich: Enjoy the moment.

Who knows? Not even the politicians do. Scaremongering is one of Britain’s traditional pastimes. We try to avoid the media and not get hung up on things we can’t change. They might seem like big issues, but the reality is their impact on us will be tiny compared to the things we can do ourselves to determine our own destinies.

It’s the little day to day things that really matter. The ones we can change. So we focus on them instead.

WHAT ARE YOUR FAVOURITE PLACES TO RELAX, DINE AND PARTY ON THE ISLAND? Jamie: I like to relax at the beach and Cala Pada is a regular spot for me with it being close to Santa Eulalia where we live. To eat I probably visit the most La Vie en Rose in the main square of Santa Eulalia, it’s a little French café with amazing savoury crepes.

Rich: my favourite beach for relaxing is Cala San Vicente at the top of the island. I eat out a lot and some of my favourites local places for brunch or lunch are Granarium in Santa Eulalia, Plaisir in Santa Gertrudis and Cositasricas in Ibiza Town. Kokoro in Santa Eulalia do great sushi. Favourite places to party, our little free party on a Sunday night at Veto is always fun, and Wax Da Jam, Nightmares on Wax’s shindig at Las Dalias is a standout party.

IF MUSIC WOULD NOT EXIST, WHAT WOULD YOU DO FOR A LIVING? Jamie: I’d probably like to buy stuff from junk yards and make stuff out of it to sell.

Rich: I’d probably be buying the stuff he made out of stuff from junkyards! For a living though, who knows. Creating something, maybe a vegan restaurant.

HOW DOES YOUR PERFECT DAY LOOK LIKE? Jamie: Walk the dogs around the coast to Soulgood for a coffee and a fresh juice, then drop them off with our mates and hop on the ferry for a day in Formentera where I’d head to Es Pujols on a moped, have a swim and then finding a nice spot for lunch and a glass of wine before a snooze on the beach. Then back to Ibiza and have a curry at Bollywood in Santa Eulalia, overlooking the marina. Then a few drinks around town and head out to somewhere like Wax The Jam at Las Dalias market.

Rich: Just finding the right balance of calmness, productivity and enjoyment. Feeling connected to nature. Creating something.

Exercising. Cooking something. Laughing with friends. Having a drink. Watching a sunset. Getting a good night’s sleep.

IF YOU HAD A MAGIC WAND AND COULD CHANGE THREE THINGS ON IBIZA, WHAT WOULD THEY BE? Jamie: More of my friends from UK here. The existence of smoked fish. More red wine than just Rioja Rioja Rioja!

Rich: Also, more direct flights in winter. Less restrictions on outdoor and daytime parties. And no more pANTS advertising slogans.

HOLA JAMES Y RICHARD. TODO SUCEDE POR UN MOTIVO Y LA VIDA MISMA NOS PUSO EN CONTACTO, ASÍ QUE ES EVIDENTE QUE TENÍAMOS QUE HACER UNA ENTREVISTA CON VOSOTROS. ADEMÁS, YO SOY UN GRAN FAN DE VUESTRA MÚSICA, ES POR ESTO QUE NOS GUSTARÍA CONOCER MÁS SOBRE VOSOTROS, SOBRE VUESTRA RELACIÓN CON IBIZA Y MUCHO MÁS. PARA EMPEZAR, CONTADNOS CÓMO OS JUNTASTEIS, SÉ QUE SUCEDIÓ EN IBIZA, ¿CIERTO? Sí, nos conocimos aquí en Ibiza hace 14 años. Ambos llegamos con una caja de discos y un sueño compartido por tantísima gente cada año: conseguir ser DJs en Ibiza. 2001 y 2002 fueron grandes años para lograrlo y muchos hoy en día famosos DJs estaban haciendo lo mismo – Jamie Jones, Lee Foss, Dyed Soundorom, por mencionar sólo algunos. Nosotros tocamos en algunas actuaciones juntos durante aquel verano, pero Audiojack no comenzó de verdad hasta unos cuantos años después, cuando los dos vivimos juntos en Leeds. Si bien Ibiza fue el catalizador.

¿CÓMO LLEGASTEIS A LA MÚSICA EN PRIMER LUGAR? Jamie: Mi padre es un teclista, así que en casa siempre había música y equipo musical, por lo que yo estaba familiarizado con el tema desde muy pequeño, aunque no comencé a interesarme de verdad por la música hasta mis primeros años de adolescencia cuando copiaba cintas de mis padres y de sus amigos y las escuchaba durante mi reparto diario de periódicos.

Rich: Mi abuelo formaba parte de una banda en los años 50 y 60.

Trabajaba duro y tocaba incluso más duro. Mi madre recuerda pasar con regularidad por encima de personas inconscientes tiradas por los pasillos de camino al colegio. A mí me encantaba verlo tocar el piano. De pequeño, él era mi héroe, ¡lo cual es posible que explique muchas cosas! Mi incursión en la música electrónica comenzó durante mis primeros años de adolescencia con cintas rave que escucha en mi walkman durante los días de colegio y que sonaban a todo volumen en el coche de algún amigo tunero durante la noche.

LOS DOS ESTÁIS RADICADOS EN IBIZA - ¿CÓMO FUNCIONA ESTO PARA VOSOTROS?

Cuanto más viajamos, menos importante se hace nuestra base geográfica. Todo lo que realmente necesitamos para hacer lo que amamos es un aeropuerto con conexiones europeas decentes e internet. Por lo tanto, cuando estábamos decidiendo a dónde nos mudaríamos después de Leeds, el factor más importante que tuvimos en consideración fue nuestra calidad de vida.

Incluso después de haber estado viniendo aquí durante 20 años y viviendo aquí durante algunos años, cada vez que aterrizamos aquí en Ibiza, de vuelta a casa, todavía sentimos esa sensación especial. Es difícil de explicar, a no ser que lo sepas, entonces sobran las palabras…

¿CÓMO VEIS VOSOTROS LA DIVERSIDAD MUSICAL DE LA ISLA? Existe una diversidad limitada comparada con una gran ciudad, donde puedes encontrar todo tipo de diferentes escenas, desde jazz hasta hip-hop, de música clásica a rock, etc. Sin embargo, hay una rica diversidad dentro de la escena de la música electrónica, donde todos y cada uno vienen a actuar aquí durante los meses de verano. Durante el verano Ibiza es la indiscutible capital del house y del techno y los line ups son inmensos en grandiosidad, si bien muchos de los grandes clubs todavía carecen de imaginación en sus line ups. Los mismos DJs cada año desde hace una eternidad. Con tantos artistas de talento creando música en la actualidad es triste que tan pocos tengan la oportunidad de actuar en los grandes escenarios, con line ups muy a menudo escogidos por agentes y empresas de gestión.

Recuerda a los negocios corporativos y al favoritismo, los ‘trabajos para los amigos’. Sería fantástico poder ver más diversidad y ver a los promotores arriesgándose más…

HABLADNOS UN POCO DE VUESTRO SELLO, GRUUV. Gruuv es una plataforma para nosotros, para expresar quiénes somos y qué nos interesa mediante un medio diferente a nuestras producciones musicales o nuestros sets de DJ. Es un reflejo de lo que nos interesa en el momento dentro del ámbito del house, techno y de la rara indulgencia de música electrónica.

Operamos prácticamente con un enfoque de calidad por encima de cantidad, algo que es muy fácil de mantener, ya que no nos interesa simplemente ganar dinero, lo que queremos es mostrar y apoyar la música y los artistas que amamos. Si a la gente le gusta y lo compra, estupendo, pero si no tampoco importa, siempre y cuando estemos contentos con la consistencia de calidad.

SI LA MÚSICA NO EXISTIERA, ¿A QUÉ OS DEDICARÍAS? Jamie: Yo probablemente compraría cosas en los desguaces, con las que crearía cosas para luego venderlas.

Rich: ¡Yo probablemente estaría comprando las cosas que él hace con los trastos de los desguaces! Para vivir, sin embargo, quién sabe. Crearía algo, tal vez un restaurante vegano. ¿CÓMO ES VUESTRO DÍA PERFECTO?

Jamie: Pasear a los perros por la costa de Soulgood y tomar un café y un zumo recién exprimido, después dejarlos con nuestros amigos y subir al ferry para pasar el día en Formentera, donde me dirigiría en moto a Es Pujols, me iría a nadar y después encontraría un lugar agradable para almorzar algo y beber una copa de vino antes de echarme una siesta en la playa. Después, vuelta a Ibiza para tomarme un curry en Bollywood en Santa Eulalia, con vistas a la marina. Después unas copas por la ciudad y dirigirnos a algún lugar como Wax The Jam, en el mercado de Las Dalias.

Jamie: No te preocupes por las cosas que no puedes controlar.

Rich: Disfruta del momento.

Rich: Simplemente encontrando el equilibrio adecuado entre tranquilidad, productividad y placer. Sentirse en conexión con la naturaleza. Crear algo. Hacer ejercicio. Cocinar algo. Reír con amigos. Tomarse una copa. Contemplar un atardecer. Tener una buena noche de sueño.

CON EL REINO UNIDO ABANDONANDO AHORA LA UNIÓN EUROPEA, ¿OS ENFRENTÁIS A ALGÚN TIPO DE PROBLEMA QUEDÁNDOOS AQUÍ?

SI TUVIERAIS UNA VARITA MÁGICA Y PUDIERAIS CAMBIAR TRES COSAS EN IBIZA, ¿CUÁLES SERÍAN?

¿Quién sabe? Ni siquiera los políticos lo saben. El alarmismo es uno de los pasatiempos tradicionales de los británicos. Nosotros intentamos evitar los medios de comunicación y no preocuparnos por cosas que no podemos cambiar. Es posible que parezcan grandes problemas, pero la realidad es que el impacto que tienen en nosotros es muy pequeño comparado con las cosas que nosotros mismos podemos hacer para determinar nuestros propios destinos. Son las pequeñas cosas del día a día las que realmente importan. Las que nosotros podemos cambiar. Es por esto que nosotros nos centramos en estas cosas.

Jamie: Más amigos míos del Reino Unido aquí en Ibiza. La existencia del pescado ahumado. Más vino que solamente ¡Rioja, Rioja, Rioja!

¿CUÁL ES VUESTRO LEITMOTIF EN LA VIDA?

¿CUÁLES SON VUESTROS LUGARES FAVORITOS PARA RELAJAROS, PARA COMER Y PARA SALIR DE MARCHA EN LA ISLA? Jamie: A mí me gusta relajarme en la playa y Cala Pada es un lugar habitual para mí, una vez que está cerca de Santa Eulalia, donde vivimos. Ideal for the lovers of Berlin’s distinctive sound, honed by this great label over the course of the years of existence - always fresh, groovy and forwardthinking.

Larry Heard aka Mr. Fingers compiles the 10 years celebration of Rebirth, and he does so in style as he is also a remixer for the label and understands the philosophy of releasing tracks that persist time and style, remixing lost jewels with contemporary sounds in order to give them a somewhat eternal life. The double CD contains a total of 47 tracks, most of them remixed but some originals as well - a must for collectors of contemporary music.

If Berlin has a distinctive sound then it is the one you find on this collection of tracks from the likes of Ante Perry, Nils Hoffmann, My Secret Playground, Aeonix or K-Paul, or at least this is what Kallias Music believe with their latest release.

Not new but for me a great collection of perfect floor tools, reflecting Mihai’s approach to create warm (Deep) House tracks with all necessary ingredients to get you into his groove. They are so homogeneous you can play them in different orders and they will always result 100% effective on the floor. A permanent guest in my set and for many more time to come.

Compiled by Simon Mills, this third installment consists of 14 hand selected tracks that capture the mood and atmosphere of the Sunset over the Malaysian capital perfectly. Artists featured are Dekoi, Napoleon, Jose Padilla & Chris Zippel, Simon Mills, Chris Coco and Bent, amongst others. OFF F. SVEN VÄTH / ELECTRICA SALSA REMIXES ‘Organization For Fun’ is the name for OFF, created by Luca Anzillotti & Michael Münzing - better known as SNAP!, on the producer side plus the young Sven Väth who provided the ideas and fun for the trio. Their hit ‘Electrica Salsa’ would eventually turn the music scene upside down and give them a huge audience especially in Italy and Ibiza, propelling their careers on an international level. Funny thing about the track is the fact that Sven was trying out some vocals for the record and - as he says himself - somehow the word Electrica Salsa came out, plus the refrain ‘baba baba’ - both not the most innovative but in combination with the production it introduced a new feel in pop culture with sound samples underlined by a unique beat, a somehow addictive mix nobody could get away from.

30 years later the likes of Roman Flügel and Henrik Schwarz present their take on the original, all three versions are different and most groovy, not sure if the vocals were re-recorded but everything sounds so crystal clear as if it was recorded just now. One version from Henrik was recorded with a live brass combo. Legend! Released on Cocoon Recordings (where else...)

GAB RHOME / JEUNESSE DOREE EP Sublabel of Get Physical, Kindisch, is the playground of future heroes, young and upcoming producers, tracks off the obvious, the easy. Gab Rhome is one of them, his EP features two tracks perfect for the early hours, the left overs, the sunny beaches, cosy moments, lovely encounters. ‘Raphael’ is the first one, spheric melodies meet funky elements, bongos meet claps and hats, violins come in harmony, creating a feelgood atmosphere from the very beginning to the end. ‘’Victor’ is the second one, taking things a bit deeper, more mysterious but equally groovy.

Perfect tools to get the crowd going, preferrablyat less than 120 bpm.

SIDNEY CHARLES / ON THE RECORD Being a fellow of Avotre label owner Santé where the EP was released Sidney once more proves his unsatisafying urge to create heavy floorweights. Title track is nothing short of that, a jackin drum and synth loop build anticipation during the intro before dropping into a series of tough basslines and beat interludes - going a long way to further showcase Sidney’s exceptional talents as a producer. Remix duties for this track are handed over to legendary Stacey Pullen, propelling the original into the depths of Tech House using original vocal stems in a most repetitive way.

Second track ‘Galactic Underground’ is exactly this, heavy grooves, funky elements, rolling basslines and rich hats and claps round up this package ready to be played by any forward thinking DJ on planet groove. Released on Avotre Rec.

ADVENTURES IN DAYDREAMS / TRAVEL Richard Fletcher & Alex Brown are the ones behind this great artist moniker, and Richard is as well co owner of Tact Recordinggs where the EP is released. With this two tracker they explore themore melodic and deeper side, starting with the title track ‘Travel’ which is a love affair that takes 76

its tume to unfold and keeps doing so until the end, combining lush pads and idyllic chords throning above deep basslines, pads to warm your heart and piano stabs to lighten even the most melancholic amongst the dancers until a bright smile appears on everybody’s face. ‘Humboldt’ is just as deep, ideal to introduce an emotive set with a sensitive pad unleashing the urge to dance eternally, underlined by a sharp 4-tone chord until the bigroom fanfare takes control supported by great hats, claps and snares.

Both tracks breathe a bit of their trademark melancholy but are intelligently hidden behind a great warmth. Released on Tact Recordings.

CHICOLA / CHILDHOOD As Guy J, mastermind of Lost & Found Records and a musical connaisseur himself says, Israelian Chico Shuella aka Chicola created a special track because he put all his feelings and emotions in this one, managing to express them perfectly through this track - so the outcome has to be very special. ‘Childhood’ is such a track, building up one element at a time, introducing heart-melting melodic chords to conquer your heart with a smile, leaving you behind with nothing less but the urge for more. On remix duties are Hernan Cattaneo & Soundexile together, both Argentinian music masters themselves, converting the original in an even smarter, longer, more sensual love affair lasting almost 10 minutes. PAUL HAZENDONK / SPEKSOPHOBIA Rotterdam’s Paul Hazendonk delivers his first solo release on his own label Manual, featuring two tracks. ‘Speksophobia’ means literally ‘the persistent fear of wasps’ and introduces itself with a percussive intro, adding intricate sounds and synths layer by layer, enriched by dubbed out FX until it has fully evloved into a groovemonster hard to resist. ‘Profound Shift Of Conceptual Awareness’ pays tribute to its huge title, a brooding beast of a track in a slight-y more energetic setting that sparks with electric intensity and displays even more of Paul’s trademark attention to detail. Both tracks are to be listened over and over again, you will discover something new every time you dive into it again proof of his masterful skills. Released on Manual Recordings.

NILS PENNER / POWER OF SOUND Title is program, this truly is the power of sound. Title track ‘Power of Sound’ features the vocal talent of Page in a poetic spoken word form, giving the track an even stronger african touch as through the rich percussions and crystal clear hats and claps. Remix come from Smash TV, echoing the vocal and setting the focus on stronger beats and more ethnical elements. Second track ‘Theory’ is an excellent roller with trippy delayed arp melodies and most beautiful chords throning on top. Remix of this one comes from Lazaros, slicing the original into pieces to put it together into a more trippy, more echoed and delayed version full of sound elements to trick your mind. Swiss duo Fat Sushi returns to Hive Audio with this two tracker ranging from solid Tech House to a more playful House adaption. Citadelle is the stronger one, heavy basslines swing over a techy kick, mini big room breaks unveil a groovemonster par excellence, epic drumrolls amplify this impressively. A splash of (neo)Trance adds some extra spice, making this one a shure shot for peak moments on bigger floors. Citabelle is the beauty after the beast, trippy bassline warps and pure melodic beauty derived from an extensive knowledge about what works best when the sun rises again after a long night define this massive morning tune at best.

A label from the Basque country? Yep lads and gents, welcome to Soleid music. Soleid is not just about music, they are a collective of Freethinkers, Artists, Musicians, Illustrators & Designers, all with a view to keep things fresh. All releases i got so far are heavy groovers, finest house music for those who like to get down, provided by fresh and unknown talents recruited with love. The latest one is no exception, a heavy-duty House groover with great elements, rich vocals and a sol(e)id foundation, remixed by two as well unknown producers called ‘Renoa’ and ‘Daniel Ray’, the first stripping it down just the right bit to not lose its drive, the latter takes the risk and deepens it significantly, out comes a perfect warm-up gem for the lovers of deeeeeep grooves. JONAS SAALBACH / ANCIENT LAKE REMIXES Six months ago Jonas Saalbach came up with his album ‘Ancient Lake’, living proof of his outstandinfg qualities as a still very young producer who knows exactly how to convert feelings into sound, taking you into his world almost instantly. Remix duties come from the likes of Sébastien Léger, Dirty Doering & Sascha Cawa, Dahu, Philipp Kemnich and Britta Arnold & Unders. Einmusika is, i said it before, one of my fave labels when it comes to sensual, driving and seducing tracks, and all tracks got the same overall feel, but my fave here is undoubtedly ‘Yaled’ feat. the voice of Woodie in the remix from Steyoyoke stalwart Dahu. A broken beat monster able to rise your blood pressure from the first moment, one of those perfect tunes to start a set, give the crowd a well-earned break or leave them speechless as last track of your set. PARKER / AQUA DUST EP

French producer Darlyn Vlys is a regular on Sincopat, best spanish label based in Valencia, teaming up with Tunisian colleague Hearthug and Haptic on vocals. The original is a dark, driving Tech House par excellence, with indie elements so typical for the label. The Cosmo edit adds rich synths and a slightly different bassline, plus the whole sounds clearer.

The cherry on the pie comes from British, Berlin-based producer Eric Volta & The Changing Minds, delivering a 14 minutes monster that, if played entirely, will for sure propel your crowd into electronic heaven with no guarantee of a fast return. Starting really deep, almost chilled, it unfolds into something best described as Tech House with a swing, carefully cut sounds, acid elements, cinematic soundscapes meet minimalistic approach, the vocals shiver and shine, the whole track is an electronic orgasm impossible to escape. Released on Sincopat.

Jalapeño Records, home of the beat warriors, the rhythm freaks, the drum gourmets and electronic pirates, the lateral thinkers, bellyachers and fast forwards pres. Parker, offering a three tracker as typical for Jalapeño as it gets. Getting things moving is opener ‘A Dream’ and its classic sounding MPC drum break, reverb soaked melodic sax licks and bluesy vocals come in and out of the ether while the rhythm section keeps things rolling. Aqua Dust showcases horn hits and vocal snaps to adorn the heavy hitting beat as it drives through luscious strings samples and dream like bars. Closing out the EP is ‘Doubles’ with its soulful vocals, 60’s influenced organ and skipping drumbeat. Released on Jalapeño Records.

DENITE / NOW OR NEVER Berlin’s label With Compliments is establishing itself as a guarantee for solid dance music from the bottom up. This time it is the premiere of Berlin’s ‘Denite’, dark & soulish in its total, especially on the title track ‘Now or Never’, one of those tracks that make you dance want it or not, or better said - if you don’t dance to this i strongly recommend to go see a doctor immediately.

Second track ‘Moving On’ is a more emotional affair, with strong melodies, equally heavy beats and a rich build up, better played just before peak time to get temperatures right. Third track ‘Barcelona’ might have derived from a trip to the Catalan capital, it surely is the deepest, darkest and dunkelst of the three, with heavy bass meets funky melody, long break meets trumpetish sounds, weaved together in the most groovy way. SOUNDOPAMINE / ICE CREAM The exotically named Architects Of Paradise label continues to serve up great summer vibes. here they present a new EP from Romanian act Soundopamine, consisting of Roman Botnari, Cristian Munteanu and vocalist NTSH. The Bucharest based trio have a unique sound combining Jazzy chords seasoned with Tribal / Techno rhythms. The title track ‘Ice Cream’ is a beautifully crafted number, Balearic vibes with flowing vocals from NTSH, best played at a nice pool party on a most sought-after villa event. ‘Lose Control’ is a slightly more jackin Jazzy affair that will be right at home on our white isle and will surely have a few folk losing control on the dancefloor of yes, one of those soughtafter villa events. Title track Maria is a twisted deep house jewel, bringing back in one’s mind that it is great to sometimes walk off the beaten track. Slightly off-beat claps meet a strong rolling bassline, subtle melodies and tricky sounds, weaving together to an uplifting groove monster impossible to resist.

Remix comes from Beaner who serves up a trippy off kilter-creation with a clever contrast to the original, cutting it to pieces, clearing it up and reconstruct it to an even more trippy ride for lovers. ‘Got the Taste’ zones in on the relentless groove with breathless vocal stabs and unforgiving deepness which conforms to a simplistic affable approach. SAM SHURE / DUMRA Sam Shure is a young producer from Berlin presenting his release on Mukke Recordings consisting of four tracks, three originals and one remix. ‘Dumra’ is the title track and my fave here, from the very beginning you are hooked on the melodic synth and classic piano, underlined by a tender kick until the first break, introducing another deep synth and some mystical elements to result in a deep beauty for lovers of sunkissed House. ‘Kaa’ is another love story, similar ingredients with a weird piano and an even weirder violin-like chord resulting in a light melancholy whilst the kick has not even arrived. Remix comes from Sokool, giving it a lot more drive and a 5/4 synth to let you urge for the rhythm. Finally ‘Arabiskan’ is the almost dubby kind of slow burner, perfect for a beach set or the very very late hours, completed by ethnic guitars and effects to take you on a tour to music heaven. ANDRE CROM / ESTIU Label headhoncho Andre Crom presents his latest release consisting of two tracks. ‘Aestas’ is aimed for the faster floors of our beloved clubworld, straight forward, driving Techno par excellence. Starting easy with a tribal touch, the track gains intensity in an instant as a hypnotic synth jumps in, followed by some tight claps. Keeping its pace until the obligatory break the track then unfolds itself with filters and delays only to start all over again.

More than enough to keep the crowd tight by the needle with more hats and claps to crescend in a peak. Title track ‘Estiu’ is more of a fast classic House track with a beautiful chord melody unfolding itself while snares and hats join the arrangement until a great swirling bassline adds a weird spice to it. Sweet melodies complete the package, filtered in and out until a break going to zero only to introduce the bassline once more, adding a tight kick and rolling hats to support this old- meets newschool beauty.
