We invited the artists within these pages to resist the zeitgeist and tend to the inextinguishable. Through their grace and grit, this programme is ablaze with radical acts of enquiry and wonder. Their plans include: CONJURING YACHT PARTIES, HOOK-UPS AND A REDISCOVERY OF WITCHES RIFFING ON THE SKYLINE, USING CRANES AS A MUSICAL SCORE

We’re living in superflux, a rushing spiral of chance and change. We need artists to stand in the centre of the spin and sing. In this moment, held between the beloved and the undiscovered, Fringe are making space to play. This year’s programme centres work that inspires joy and prizes

Making a festival in transforming times demands a complex approach to a simple act: coming together to experience something new.

Together, we are working in a spirit of experimentation, with care and generosity as core values. We are staying devoted to artistic risk,

The artists in our 2021 programme are delving into questions of identity: singular, communal, imagined. These exceptional artists are interrogating the self: self-presentation and self-preservation. They ask how identity is shaped and manipulated by external forces, trace the overlap between public and private personas, navigate the politics of legacy and liberation. They speak of intimacies, delving into the nuance and minutiae of connection. From queer socials to many-handed murals and shared soundtracks, it’s a celebration of the communal. This programme makes space for gentle touches, sharp observations and the curious dichotomy of togetherness and distance. These artists are reminding us of who we could be, both together and apart. — Bee Sparks, Artistic Projects Manager

KEVIN KEOGH (Dublin) is an actor and theatre maker who creates genre-defying, unconventional work that borrows from street cultures, merging high art and the contemporary youth discourse, creating energetic experiences. TEET PAUL CURRIE

Dublin is being torn down and transformed. Every route through town forces you past the shell of a place you used to love: a venue, a café, a community space.

In an improvised performance reading Dublin’s cranes as musical notation, we’ll play music to them — and to you — remembering Dublin’s past, imagining its future.

It’s impossible to imagine Dublin without cranes, the symbol nobody asked for. But what if they were used to build something that would benefit us all?

Come, immerse yourself in the steamy hot waters of TEET as Paul Currie dissolves, froths and fizzes all around you like a lavender bath bomb. Scratching and burrowing into the cotton cuticles of human empathy in an attempt to expose how we are all still suckling and biting on the teet of Mother Nature. It’s time we woke up and punched a hole through the shit blanket of mediocrity that

we have all personally hand stitched and draped over ourselves. An absurdist stand-up comedy show for fans of Andy Kaufman, Samuel Beckett, and The Muppet Show.

NETWORK & SHOWCASE 16TH ANNUAL INFORMATION TOOLBOX

Now in its 16th year, Irish Theatre Institute’s Information Toolbox is a key networking event for artists and companies presenting work in Dublin Fringe Festival 2021, offering a chance to engage with programmers, presenters, and potential collaborators from across Ireland and from abroad. Registration opens in August. Further details including registration will be available on fringefest.com and irishtheatreinstitute.ie Information Toolbox is supported by the Arts Council / An Chomhairle Ealaíon and Culture Ireland. THINGS WE HAVEN’T MADE Irish Theatre Institute, in partnership with Dublin Fringe Festival and Culture Ireland, will present a co-ordinated and curated pitching session* where Irish artists talk about their upcoming projects with an eye to securing development support, collaborations and presenting partners. Now in its fifth year, Things We Haven’t Made will be presented online to both national and international presenters and programmers. Participating artists will be provided with pitching training in advance of the presentations. Follow @IrishTheatreIns on Twitter for deadline announcements and further details.

*Selection to participate in the pitching session is by open call during August. See cultureireland.ie, fringefest.com and irishtheatreinstitute.ie for further details.

To all the artists, staff, technicians, volunteers, patrons, partners, stakeholders, venues, funders, sponsors, friends and family who once again have joined us on our festival-making journey, a heartfelt THANK YOU. Without your dedication and support Dublin Fringe would not be in its 27th year of ground-breaking and mischief making. Massive thanks to you, our audience, for joining us. We have set the stage for you to revel in this years hard-won festival programme. We can’t wait to see you in your seats and in the streets. To our core funders the Arts Council and Dublin City Council, thank you for backing our vision every step of the way and making our ambitions a reality.
