COVID-19 SAFETY MEASURES Dublin Fringe Festival, in collaboration with our venue partners, have taken every precaution as recommended in government guidance to ensure your comfort and safety. The safety of artists, audiences and staff is paramount to us.
TICKETS All tickets must be purchased online in advance. There will be no tickets for sale on the door. There will be no paper tickets. Please read the detail of your booking confirmation and pre-show emails carefully for advance information about your visit.
Social distancing measures will be in place at all events. You will be required to wear a face-covering at all events.
Some events may be cancelled at late notice due to circumstances beyond our control relating to the COVID-19 pandemic. You will be eligible for a refund in this instance. Alternatively, if you can, please consider donating the price of your ticket to Dublin Fringe Festival.

DEAR FRINGE-GOER, Fuelled by the low glow of the shining possible, we have lovingly set the stage for artists to innovate for the times. This September, they will create a constellation of performance experiments that forge new pathways to shared experience. THIS IS A STATEMENT OF INTENT. A month is a long time in 2020, which means plans might change between going to print and closing night. Part writing project, part sound project and part nationwide planting project, this fizzy triptych will begin with a letter sent to you at home. You will be invited to step into your garden, the park by your work or that tiny triangle of green next to the supermarket and to listen to what it has to say. This is an ambitious attempt to invade our outdoor spaces and to expand conversations surrounding Ireland’s biodiversity crisis. Expect an intimate soundscape, expert interviews and a conversation with a bumblebee. Proceeds from ticket sales will go towards the planting of 1,000 indigenous Irish trees in 2021. Dublin Fringe Festival is more than sixteen days in September, its more than late nights and last laughs on the bus home. It’s an investment in talent, a platform for big ideas and a summer of artists across the country creating worlds for all of us.
Murmuration ‘I am so sick of being so lost somewhere that ought to be home.’ Dee is back in Dublin, after several years away. Fin never left and is hiding in plain sight. Viewed through a window and heard through headphones, witness a chance encounter between two people unaware of how much they need to be heard. This intimate show is an invitation to listen in as they strive to tune out the city around them, and the noise within.

This is a forward-focused festival, with an emphasis on keeping the ever-industrious buzz of artists at work alight. We have learned the urgency of the immediate and the gratification of the slow burn: there is power in the here and now, there is strength in the solidarity created through months of hard graft. This year we’re championing 50 artists to continue crafting and coalescing their big ideas through an ongoing FRINGE LAB artist support programme. It’s time to catch momentum, to keep it going, to find a way through this, to scheme a thousand mini-utopias and then be ready to make them so (when the time is right!). Some things remain unchanged. FRINGE LAB FRINGE LAB FRINGE LAB provides year-round practical and artistic support, responding to the needs of both developing and established artists, technicians, producers and practitioners. FRINGE LAB is both a space and a platform for training and learning activities. At FRINGE LAB, this year particularly, our activity isn’t just about physical space: we’re thinking about a sense of belonging and a community. OUR FRINGE LAB SPACES STUDIO 1 is a dedicated space for the development of new work. It’s available free of charge eight hours a day, five days a week on an application basis. THE CELL is a dedicated office space for writers and producers who need silence to work or write. Desk space is available Monday to Friday, 10am- 6pm by booking in advance. Holding auditions, meetings, workshops or classes? STUDIO 2 at FRINGE LAB is this bright and spacious space overlooking Meeting House Square available to hire all year round.
While we welcome an amazing range of artists throughout the year, FRINGE LAB is also home to our Resident Artists through our Artist Office and Hot Desk Residencies – shared space in which to cultivate connections, work and chat with others. If you’re interested in becoming one of our Resident Artists in future – get in touch! ARTIST AT WORK As part of our expanded FRINGE LAB 2020 programme, we’ve created the Artist At Work series. Taking place all over the island during our festival dates, these paid idea development residencies (done safely at home or in studio) shine a light on artistic process and the often invisible work done by artists. Preparation for the future continues.
Ursula McGinn (Dublin) is a theatremaker who works in a collaborative way as a director, designer and writer. She is co-artistic director of Bombinate Theatre. Attracted to stories that engage the hearts and heads of audiences, Ursula is working on a new project, exploring bunraku puppetry, European mythology and the Dublin Fruit & Vegetable Market.
Orla Graham is a writer/actor, Kirby Thompson is a writer/director (Belfast). With support from the Lyric Theatre, they are working on their new project, Occupied., exploring the triumphs and trials of menstruation, that monthly bill that Mother Nature makes us pay. In partnership with the Lyric Theatre
Oisín Robbins (Galway) is a theatre-maker and the founder of Beluga Theatre. In 2019, Oisín travelled to Denmark for a sociohistorical research project on ‘the Skawman’. He will be developing the theatrical possibilities for My Wardrobe is My Home as a result of this research. It is an exploration of one person’s decision to live differently and how society responds. In partnership with Town Hall Theatre
Isabella Oberländer (Limerick) is a dance artist who embraces the advocacy of the dancing body, exploring a visceral articulation of physicality and thought Isabella is working on Glisten, a new solo work, focusing on the materiality of the body, spatial relationships and triggering new territories through the provocations of Xenofeminist Manifesto and speculative fiction. In partnership with Dance Limerick
Timothy O’ Mahony (Cork) is a playwright and theatre-maker who likes to make the ordinary extraordinary. He focuses on character driven work and intimate storytelling. Timothy is working on his new play The Story, with support from TDC, making the transition from writer to actor under the direction of Corcadorca’s Pat Kiernan. In partnership with Corcadorca & Theatre Development Centre
Seán Millar (Dublin) is a musician, writer and theatre-maker. He is working on developing two new short theatre shows, The Representative and Lovesong for 2021, and Southside Gothic, a new large-scale theatre piece in collaboration with Pom Boyd for 2022.

In January, we issued a curatorial call out asking for work in response to the theme Utopias & Uprisings. Little did we know how soon the task of reimagining the world would become so achingly, urgently real. Together with Centre Culturel Irlandais, Dublin Fringe Festival has commissioned three sets of trailblazing, peerless Irish artists to write and share their manifesto for the new era they want to usher in.

For the next 12 pages, you are in their capable hands. GENDER.RIP gender.RIP is a collaboration between Dámhín McKeown, Alber Saborío, Ríon Murphy and a loosely associated collection of gender killers based in Dublin. We are a transled art collective. The collective is multi-disciplinary, anticapitalist and non-hierarchical. gender.RIP have worked with the RHA, Temple Bar Gallery + Studios and A4 Sounds. 24
WEAREGRIOT WeAreGriot is a collective of Nigerian-Irish poets and storytellers; Felispeaks, Dagogo Hart and Samuel Yakura. Our goal is to reflect the times we live in through our work, to celebrate culture and community and to stretch the boundaries of poetry. We create to serve both art and agenda.

Glitter HOLE is a queer performance space, a DIY drag collective, and a bit of laugh. Founded in 2016, Glitter HOLE is dedicated to providing a space in Dublin for experimental, weird and political queer performance of all kinds. Recent commissions include Glitter HOLE: Protest! (Irish Museum of Modern Art, 2020) and Púcaparty (Dublin Fringe Festival, 2019). Winner of Dublin Fringe Festival Judges’ Choice Award 2018.

Fellow QTIBPOC time-travellers and shapeshifters, lets come together to traverse the virtual and physical realms and transcend the bounds of white cis hetero capitalist patriarchy to generate new visions of Black Queer transformation and liberation. ITI will assist artists and companies to make connections and showcase their work to national and international programmers, presenters and festivals — ONLINE. Information Toolbox, for the 15th consecutive year, will offer the space for artists and companies presenting work in Dublin Fringe 2020 (including those who have postponed until 2021) to engage with programmers, presenters and potential collaborators
from across Ireland and from abroad. See what you have in common; talk about the challenges of making and presenting work in a post-COVID-19 world; learn from each other; start to build connections and plan for working in new or adjusted ways.
