I made sure to draft him in my Fantasy Football league (which allowed me to draft defensive players) and so far he’s doing me good. I don’t know why, but I picture him as more flashy than anything when it came to dressing up his rides. He really surprised me by going for the simple, clean look. But I’m predicting that might change as his collection starts to grow...but hey, he can do whatever he wants for his rides, just as long as he keeps giving me my Fantasy points! ALL-NEW 2018 JEEP WRANGLER UNVEILED AT LA AUTO SHOW It’s been 10 years since the “JK” was released and now it’s the most popular off-road vehicle around and Jeep has finally unveiled its new “JL” edition at the Los Angeles Auto Show. The redesigned Wrangler will come standard with its current 285-hp 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 or turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder that produces 270 hp with 295 lb-ft of torque. The 3.0-liter turbodiesel V6 will available in 2019 producing 260 hp and 442 lb-ft of torque and a rumored plug-in hybrid in 2020. The two-door Wrangler is now 2.8 inches longer, while the four-door model is now 3.8 inches longer (the wheelbases are now 1.4 inches and 2.4 inches, respectively). Their bodies are now 0.2 inches wider and the wheels feature an extra 2.5 inches of track width. Similar to the outgoing JK models, the Sahara trims will still have body-colored fenders, while fenders on the Rubicon are 2 inches higher and are now steel (which will also accommodate a Warn winch). The new JL also improves on the JK’s approach, departure and breakover angles. The Rubicon trim will feature 33-inch BF Goodrich KO2 all-terrain tires and 35-inch options will fit with Mopar’s optional 2-inch lift. Push-button start is now standard, as well as a 7-inch touchscreen.

NISSAN UNVEILS “STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI”INSPIRED VEHICLES AT LOS ANGELES AUTO SHOW Nissan unveiled seven “Star Wars”-themed concepts to celebrate their ongoing collaboration with Lucasfilm for the next installment of the franchise. The show vehicles highlight Nissan’s designs, including their Rogue, Rogue Sport, Altima, Maxima and TITAN, and the iconic characters from the upcoming “Star Wars: The last Jedi” movie. Themes for each vehicle were created by artists that work at Lucasfilm, penning the designs, colors, textures and graphics. Each of the vehicles are merely concepts and will not be available for purchase. They each feature extras like hydro-dipped graphics, surround sound and aged exterior design to show their use in a battle scene. Themes include: a Special Forces TIE Fighter Altima, Kylo Ren Maxima and Kylo ren TIE Silencer Maxima, Captain Phasma Maxima, Poe Dameron’s X-Wing with BB-8 Rogue, A-wing Rogue Sport, and AT-M6 TITAN.

VOLVO LAUNCHES NEW SUV SUBSCRIPTION Volvo has launched subscription models for its new XC40 compact SUV that will start at $600 per month over the course of a two-year contract. It’ll be called Care By Volvo will start in 2018 and that monthly price includes pretty much everything, except gas, taxes and registration fees. That fee will include an all-wheel drive XC40, 24-hour customer service with roadside assistance, factory scheduled maintenance, tire and wheel damage protection, and premium personal insurance by Liberty Mutual. There’s also a $700-per-month option that includes a higher spec R-Design of the XC40 that adds on a set of 20-inch wheels and a Harman Kardon sound system. Plan members will be able to trade in the model for a new one 12 months into their subscription, which will then trigger a new 24-month contract. 26

IS MY WINDOW TINT LEGAL? WHAT’S THE LAW? WORDS: PATRIC FRANSKO

n this Issue, we want to discuss something that is usually only discussed once someone receives a ticket. What we are referring to is window tint legality and exactly what is legal. You would think that this should be easy to answer, but nothing could be further from the truth. In reality, there are several things that impact whether you will receive a ticket for the window tint on your car. SPECIFIC LAW IN YOUR STATE - This one seems obvious, but the laws vary widely across the United States. What is perfectly accepted in one state can be completely illegal in another. With that being said, there’s a very handy chart made available by the International Window Film Association (IWFA) that spells out exactly what is legal in each state. This chart is kept updated regularly as tint laws can change periodically. Make yourself familiar with this chart and understand what the laws are where you live. SPECIFIC LAWS IN THE STATE YOU ARE TRAVELING IN - To make matters a bit more complicated, it is possible for you to receive a ticket for illegal window tinting even if your tint is legal within the state in which your car is registered. Many states have the discretion to determine if they wish to hold any vehicle traveling within that state to the vehicle laws of that state. In fairness, most states, even if they have the right, refer back to the laws in the state in which the vehicle is registered. Just be aware that this is a possibility. WHAT ABOUT A MEDICAL WAIVER? Some states do have exemption to the law based on medical exemptions. This can be for things like skin sensitivity to the sun, eye sensitivity to the sun and other accepted reasons. These laws vary widely. The IWFA Chart mentioned above will tell you whether your state has a medical exemption, but not detail what that exemption is. You would need to check with your specific state to determine what is allowed and what documentation you would need to qualify.

DIFFERING ENFORCEMENT AND APPLICATION OF EXISTING LAWS - After you completely understand the law and how it applies to you, there is one last factor that is completely unpredictable; the level of enforcement of the law. This is usually left completely up to the discretion of each police department within the state. Some rarely even consider issuing a citation for window tint while others enforce the law stringently. In addition, the remedy in each area can vary from paying a simple fine to being issued a “fix-it ticket”. If a ticket is issued to fix the violation, the vehicle owner would need to have the tint removed and have their vehicle inspected by the court. We didn’t write this article to scare you regarding having your windows tinted, we just want to make sure you educate yourself to the laws regarding window tint in your area. rowing up in Long Beach, CA, Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver DeSean Jackson experienced the best of car culture! He remembers gawking at all the cars he’d come across in his neighborhood - from old school rides to luxury vehicles and the few exotics he’d see around, Jackson loved them all at an early age. Throughout his football career, starting at Long Beach Polytechnic High School and later at the University of California, Berkeley, Jackson believed that once he made it to the NFL, he’d finally have the garage he dreamed of as a kid. “I always knew I’d want a collection of cars and worked hard to be in this position that I’m in now to own a few I’ve always wanted,” he mentions. And his hard work has obviously paid off. Since he was drafted in the second round of the 2008 NFL Draft by the Philadelphia Eagles, the 31-year-old three-time Pro Bowler has been fortunate enough to have a revolving garage of some of the hottest rides around. In his rookie and early years in the NFL, Jackson flossed a Chevy Tahoe, GMC Denali, Dodge Charger and a few other muscle cars. But over the years, his inclination in the finer things in life increased, and his current collection reflects his refined tastes.

Jackson’s Bentley Mulsanne is the epitome of pure luxury and his ride of choice when he’s cruising around town or for special occasions, while the Mercedes-Benz S65 is more of his chill car, perfect for getting him to and from practices and errands. But when he feels like indulging his inner speed demon with an agile and powerful ride, he takes his Ferrari 458 out for a spin! “The Ferrari is fast like me!,” he jokes. “It gives me a rush every time I drive it.” But luxury and exotics aren’t his only preference in rides; his pickup truck helps haul his weekend toys around for a bit of R&R to clear his head from his time on the Gridiron. To commemorate his So. Cal upbringing and fascination for West Coast car culture, Jackson also owns a ’63 Impala that he first got during his rookie year and he’s currently fixing up a ’69 Camaro SS. “I remember, growing up in Cali, Impalas and Camaros cruising and I always knew I’d get them. I’m excited for the SS build; I’ve been at it for more than a year already, but it’s worth the wait since it’s a full restoration. I’m breaking it down and getting it to how I want it.”

Totally content, Jackson isn’t looking to change up his collection anytime soon, but that could be a different story in two years, he admits. “I’m definitely just fortunate to have everything I want. Before these cars, I had a deal with a local BMW dealer, so I had a few Bimmers back in the day and right now, I have something similar with a Jaguar dealer, so I’m putting in miles on that car and saving the others for game days and the like.”

As for his first season with Tampa, Jackson has had his ups and down, and admits that it hasn’t gone entirely as he first planned back in August. “All you can do is play hard and do what you can do,” he says. “You just do your best, do your job and hope everything goes well. I just try to stay motivated and put my best foot forward during practices and especially for games. With 10 years in the league, Jackson is still on the hunt for a Super Bowl ring and will continue to play at the top of his game, day in and day out, to make that dream come true. And while he’s at it, he’ll continue to evolve his garage at the same time!

e’ve come across quite a few car connoisseurs in our years at the magazine, but none have the passion or vision that J.J. “DocZilla” Dubec possess. A veteran of our pages and our sister publication LFTD & LVLD, DocZilla has put together some of flashiest and hottest rides in recent years. At first it was his Nissan GT-R that got our attention, followed by his Ferrari 458 and then his modded out Jeep Wrangler. Now, his Acura NSX stole the show at SEMA 2017 as one of the most talked about vehicles. We caught up with the J.J. to talk about the process of putting together his latest beauty and more!

I PERSONALLY ALWAYS WISHED TO OWN AN ACURA NSX AND WAS VERY EXCITED ABOUT THE NEW CONCEPT AND NEW DESIGN.

Your NSX was one of the most talked about vehicles at SEMA. How did this project all start out for you? I personally always wished to own an Acura NSX and was very excited about the new concept and new design.This project began at SEMA 2015 when I had a discussion with Liberty Walkâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s founder, Kato Wataru. He asked me what projects I thought would be cool to do for the future and we both agreed we were excited seeing the concept drawings and renderings of the new (2nd Gen) NSX, which we thought would be out in early 2016. I told him that I would be excited to do a Liberty Walk widebody project once the car was finally released. Of course, the signature Liberty Walk widebody kit transforms the NSX into an instant classic. How did the process go and how long and who helped put it all together? The Liberty Walk kit, in my opinion, really morphs the stock design into a more muscular, aggressive look. The suspension and exhaust were several months in development as we had to virtually design it from the drawing board using Solidworks and were custom machined as there were no off-the-shelf kits available for this new platform at the time. I worked closely with AirLift Performance and used their awesome 3H management system, along with custom dampers from Stance Suspension and custom top hats and hardware designed by SerialNine and machined and finished by Zero Division both from Vancouver, Canada. 76

SerialNine also did the install and suspension adjustments. Armytrix Exhausts developed an all-new full titanium valvetronic exhaust for the NSX and debuted it in my car. For that I had to remove my stock exhaust and send it to Taiwan for measurement and research. They sent back the stock exhaust and a brand new full titanium version with ceramic coated downpipes. They also sent one of their chief engineers, Vixon Sy, to Vancouver to help us with the final install and implementation. The process of assembly went very smoothly. Once Liberty Walk had the worldâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s first kit finally made, they shipped it out

to me ASAP and we had the kit fitted and painted in about three weeks, just in time for SEMA. Body installation and paint were done by Midvan Motors in Vancouver and then final work by PhantasyKolors in Seattle. Many teams have had their expertise involved in this car. I did the fun part of cutting the fenders though! I also had a chance to have my 8-year-old kid work on the car and get in the shop with me to do some fitting of the kit and some sanding and paint prep. The aggressive wheel fitment was in conjunction with Savini Wheels and Nitto Tires and they were both really great to work with!

What are some of the other stand out modifications you have done? I personally love some of the meticulous details that most eyes will tend to overlook. For example, the paint throughout this car has been painstakingly redone to include gloss black painting of all the stock black parts and every vent opening and most of the contours around openings were extended to include a black silhouette. This gives the car a very subtle, but noticeable, ferocity. It is best seen when next to a stock NSX. Also the littlest things like using Pro Bolt USA Titanium tapered heads and washers with the threaded inserts instead of screws. These feature custom inner and outer diameter hardware with meticulous repainting of the parts to match the body color codes.

During the process, what was the most difficult obstacle to overcome? The toughest obstacle to overcome is a common factor encountered by most teams putting together builds for SEMA: the process involving obtaining parts (often prototypes fresh off the assembly line) and installing them in time for the show. In most cases there is limited room for error because of time constraints. If mistakes are made, imagination, skill, and effort are precious commodities. These obstacles are often the basis for wonderful friendships and stories because as we endure challenge or hardships, you get to know your team really well and it also spotlights those individuals who can withstand pressure and deadlines best. What were your feelings on the experience before, during and after SEMA? SEMA has a special place in my life now. I was merely an observer fiver years ago with no experience in the customization scene. Because of the generous invitations and sponsorship support since 2014, I’m happy to say that this was my fourth SEMA show in a row that I have brought new projects to each year. It’s very humbling for me because there are times when I feel that being a father and physician are my main roles in life but this drive that I have for customizing cars keeps

me coming back, and I’m so grateful that I get the opportunity to do so. It really boils down to the friends and fans that support my builds, smash the like button, smash the follow button, and give encouraging comments; a lot of that helps fuel my desire to do more and aim for #whatsnext. So you’ve showcased the GT-R, Ferrari, Jeep and NSX what can we next expect to see from your custom collection? Hahaha!! You know, I really want to do a convertible. I’m thinking a Ferrari 458 or 488 Spider. I’m gonna start looking. What motivates you to keep building cars? Doing these customization projects are so much fun and I love cool cars. The motivation to keep going is innate. It stems from the desire to be artistic and flex that right-brain creativity. All day I spend in my clinics using my left-brain, the analytical, ordered, scientific side. These cars require imagination and thinking beyond constraints, and help me exercise that F7LTHY part of my personality. As a result, the cars bring a sort of balance to my life.

Do you still own the other cars? Which has been your favorite and why? I am happy to say that I still own the GT-R, Jeep, and the NSX. I sold the Ferrari as I had space constraints and had to get rid of either the GT-R or Ferrari to make room for the Jeep and NSX. Because the GT-R was the original ride that started it all for me, there was no question I was keeping it. The NSX is just so well balanced and it’s current rarity makes it my favorite for now. But I’m going to build the new 2.0 Liberty Walk GT-R this winter and I have a feeling she may recapture center stage once again. Also I did just buy a new home so the garage situation means that another Ferrari will be in there soon. Tell us about F7LTHY and how did it come about? Why call the brand “F7LTHY”? F7LTHY has been a stamp that I’ve put on all my projects because it is such a meaningful symbol for me. F7LTHY represents the artistic expression that I mentioned previously. It is the paradox of my usual clean, clinical, by-therules lifestyle as a physician in my daily grind. The scientific, calculating left brain side versus the creative, artistic right-brain side . Clean half vs F7LTHY half. So no matter what type of creativity or art a person loves to express, whether it be music, dance, writing, graffiti, sports, etc. everyone has that F7LTHY side to them and I encourage them to let it out and let it be a part of the balance in your life. 80

What’s next for F7LTHY and where will we be seeing more of the brand? I don’t think I can neglect F7LTHY any longer. I have gotten so many requests for decals and clothing and collaborations. I think that I will really make an effort in 2018 to get a proper website going and perhaps work with retailers and established companies to get

it going. I’m happy to say that I’ll be doing a fun collaboration with Liberty Walk and 808ALLDAY out of Hawaii as these guys share a common vision and vibe with me. Look out for new products coming soon. Mostly I’m thankful that folks out there will hopefully hear the message behind it and see what it is besides the trendy look or logo.

Any advice for people looking to follow in your footsteps to build their dream cars? Yes, I’ve got the most vital piece of advice for those who wish to pursue a dream build or follow in my footsteps: if I can do it, so can you. It hasn’t been that long since I was in school, pouring over every page of the latest DUB Magazine and spending time online

admiring other people’s projects. Find the time to take care of the essentials in life and work, but don’t forget to pursue those goals which also bring you great joy. Prepare to work harder than you expect, but also know that with an exemplary effort you will also encounter wonderful experiences and a truly worthwhile voyage. MAGAZINE 2017

What message do you have for our readers, your fans and anyone that loves automotive culture? We all love cars and some projects are so insanely cool they literally stand out and take center stage. My message would be to take time to appreciate as many different types of cars as you can (the good, the bad, and the ugly) and try to equally appreciate the people behind them. The customization scene has people from all walks of life and all types of levels of expertise. Learn to support others efforts, advise when the time is right, and praise when it is deserved. Every single person in our scene is important and I would love to see us all recognize that better.

After the customer threw out the idea of wanting to take it to SEMA a few weeks before the show, we decided to make it a personal challenge for the shop to get it done.”

ome SEMA builds are carefully thought out months in advance to get everything just right. Others are thrown together a month (or less) before the world’s largest automotive aftermarket show, with the clock against them every step of the way. For Lincoln Bond, owner of Soflo Diesel in Sarasota, FL, his SEMA involvement was more the latter. “After the customer threw out the idea of wanting to take it to SEMA a few weeks before the show, we decided to make it a personal challenge for the shop to get it done,” he admits, adding that the customer’s request was that it pull double duty as a daily driver, while being easy on the eyes at shows. Once he heard the word “SEMA,” the entire Ford F-250 Platinum build changed from its initial vision of just wheels and suspension into something worthy of being shown off in Las Vegas. Originally, the truck was only meant to get a suspension upgrade with wheels and tires and a few other mods here and there, but that just wouldn’t cut it for SEMA. From there, it was decided that the main focus would be on the suspension, with other parts added for extra style. “The Ford was originally going to get a simple parallel 4-link suspension design. But that changed into a custom suspension setup, complete with sheet metal arms, triangulated 4-link and a powder coated frame,” Bond details.

The suspension was going to be an Illusion Red with mirror-finished plating, but that also changed to Jamaican Teal with a super chrome base and mirror-finished face plates since they figured red has been done before and they wanted to switch it up to get more attention. The F-250’s simple white exterior might look modest, but that was meticulously chosen to further accent the teal suspension that immediately catches your eye. Many of the products that the shop used were made in-house at their facility using their vast welding knowledge and CNC abilities. Bond also admits to keeping the factory bumpers/grille look that so many builders automatically replace with “sheet metal aftermarket bumpers,” a move that has gotten him nothing but positive comments due to the impeccable look that those factory bumpers already feature. “Why change up something that already looks good,” he confirms. 92

Although the suspension work is Bond’s pride and joy, he does believe the 42” tall Fury tires wrapped around 26” Specialty Forged SF033 wheels are another highlight of the Ford, giving it that aggressive stance. Other mods include a slew of Rigid Industries rock lights, 5” polished exhaust by JAMO, R1 Concepts rotors and headlights and emblems color-matched by Retro Customz. With so little time to get it all done before the big show, the Soflo Diesel team spent countless long hours and weekends to finish the project, but Bond says it was all worth it in the end. “It was definitely our biggest challenge to date, but it’s also one of the best to roll out of the shop,” he mentions. “It’s usually hard to pick a favorite when you’ve done so many builds, but I can confidently say that this one is my personal favorite!” And now that SEMA came and went, the truck is still getting various additions, but without the SEMA deadline looming over it, allowing Bond and his team to perfect their masterpiece even more! 94

ach year, the aftermarket auto industry makes a pilgrimage to the Mecca of it all…the annual SEMA Show in Las Vegas, NV. Thousands of enthusiasts, builders, brands, manufacturers and the like ascend on Sin City for a week to check out what’s the latest in the industry while some show off their months of hard work building their show vehicles. Each year has its own trends and the hottest rides and here’s a small rundown of what happened for the 2017 SEMA Show! This year’s front parking area of the Las Vegas Convention Center was all about Ford Mustang and their Raptor! The area was transformed into a drifting and ramp-jumping lot exhibition. The outside rear and front parking lots were also home to hundreds of custom cars for attendees to admire. Of course, the DUB LIVE! area was one of the hottest at SEMA, with a collection of lifted trucks and Jeeps, as well as some sexy and sleek exotics and luxury rides. The rise of vehicle wrapping is moving more and more to the main stream with a large portion of display vehicles having some vinyl on them. And we’re not talking about just any boring old wrap, either, because SEMA was the place to showcase the wild and flashy! Wheels and tires are the absolute foundation in any custom vehicle build and manufacturers are creating sizes, fitments and styles that exceedingly change the game. The Acura NSX is one of the hottest rides out right now and there were several highly modified examples at SEMA, including Doczilla’s Liberty Walk NSX which was the most talked about one at the show! Big and bad ass Ford F-250s dominated the SEMA Show this year rolling big on either 26s or 28s and we’ll be showcasing a few of those stand out builds in upcoming isses of LFTD&LVLD! 106
