T
he automotive industry has come a long way since the inception of DUB. It might not always have been smooth sailing, but nothing in life is without its challenges. And despite continuously moving forward, we can’t just forget about the past because it still offers us insight to the present. Shoreline Mafia is the future of hip-hop, having overcome the streets in order to rise to their success. They’ve put in work, had their trials and tribulations and now they’re reaping the benefits. Their management firm R. Baron is making sure they continue dropping hits, as well as molding other acts to take the reigns and become hip-hop royalty. Lil Uzi Vert is another rapper that’s found success with his achievements. With a new record label and new luxury rides added to his impressive fleet, the rapper is living large and showing rap that he’s in charge of his own career and destiny.
But even though the future is promising, doesn’t mean the past is totally gone. Kenwood’s 1973 Barracuda with Luxe CC Southbay is a blast from the past that booms with distinguished sound for its age. The Dodge Viper might have been discontinued, but there’s a light at the end of the tunnel for the American sports car with nine lives. It’ll be back and better than ever soon, but Leo Vediz didn’t want to wait and decided to purchase a 2017 Dodge Viper ACR-E and pay homage to the original Fast and the Furious and late actor Paul Wall. Chris Church took a 1940 Ford pickup and turned it into a modern beauty. Although the truck sports classic looks it has been updated with loads of new amenities. It’s the best of the past, present and possibly the future! This issue is also loaded with lots of DUB Show Tour coverage, including new stops in Fontana and Albuquerque and our biggest show in Dallas. W
e’ve had the pleasure of catching up with comedian Kevin Hart twice and the first time was when the now A-list actor’s career was just starting to explode. For that first interview, Kevin was talking about his debut standup film, Laugh at My Pain, and pushing a Ford Explorer dressed by the crew at Galpin Auto Sports. Other jewels in his collection were his Pontiac GTO convertible that only hits the streets on sunny days and a Range Rover that was mainly his daily driver. “It’s an old school ride that turns heads wherever you go,” he comments. “I get offers everyday about that car, but I won’t sell it. It’s too nice.” Since then, Kevin has practically become a household name and is arguably the most top-rated comedian today.

W
hen you come across a 1973 Barracuda to work on, you don’t pass up on the chance! Right from the start, Luxe CC Southbay wanted to put a modern twist on a very clean classic, but at the same time make it pop! The Mopar orange “Go Mango” was the perfect color to stand out with, yet it was still a classic feel for the Kenwood build and especially catch the eyes of event attendees wherever it was shown. Building the ’Cuda in such a way that modernized the vintage ride without taking away from its original factory flare was quite the challenge, but the crew at Luxe CC Southbay were more than up to tackling it. “The theme was consistent and was carried out with the same ideas all the way until completion,” mentions Jeremiah Mayeda, owner of Luxe CC Southbay. Since it was going to represent Kenwood at various shows, the demo ’Cuda needed to sound the part. With a little help from the engineers at Kenwood, the shop was able to design an “amazing” sound system, mentions Jeremiah. “One your typical classic car enthusiast could only dream of,” he adds. The crew installed a beautifully redesigned center console, with a nostalgic homage to

the original design; modified the door panels to house the mid drivers; and custom-built a trunk enclosure for the woofers and beauty panels to showcase the amps. As with any show car, time is always of the essence and their biggest challenge was finishing it on time. hen most people think of Hollywood, CA, they imagine sidewalks paved with stars and red carpets being rolled out. But not all is glamorous in this notorious city. Like most places in the world there is an underlying pocket of struggling citizens. Some of these individuals resort to a life of crime and drugs in order to survive. However, struggles build character and sometimes it leads to big things. This is the foundation for L.A.’s hottest hip-hop group, Shoreline Mafia, whose members include Ohgeesy, Fenix Flexin, Rob Vicious and Master Kato.
The group’s success was not instantaneous as it took the perfect formula to lead up to the conception. Unlike many other acts, Shoreline has deep roots in the streets. Most youths in So Cal. get exposed to real-world culture where activities, such as skating, tagging and even drugs are never that far away. For those that don’t have much, crime is rather tempting as it makes it easier to afford the latest and greatest. Ohgeesy took to the streets realizing he could get by better by hustling rather than struggling with academics in hopes of working at a fast food chain like the many others.
While tagging the town, Ohgessy became a part of a crew and soon met Fenix Flexin. The two hit it off and as a way to show respect to these crews, they soon started rapping and creating jams together. Though neither started doing it seriously, they soon built a following and dubbed themselves Shoreline Mafia. Living in the real world, the group would hang out with their crews, lay down some graffiti and performed at house parties. These dudes were making it happen at a young age, building the foundation for , building a foundation to become a notable act in the future.

Another talented youth in the So Cal. scene at the time was producer Ron-Ron, who started making a name for himself by posting up fresh beats online. Shoreline ended up stealing one of these tracks and laid vocals over them to create the song “Musty.” Eventually they all met up and ended up working together. According to Ron-Ron, he was glad they stole the track, as they sounded good over it. Usually when someone steals materials like this it gets ugly quick, but in an ironic twist, it brought these talents together to make for an unstoppable force. Ron-Ron was also working with local management firm R. Baron, which is run by TK and Picaso (see page 42 for more details). This team is dedicated to finding the next up-and-coming acts. Since Ron-Ron always has his ear to the ground so to speak, he suggested that R. Baron check out Shoreline. At first, Ohgeesy blew them off but Ron-Ron ended up getting them to collaborate. After the meeting, R Baron went on a mission to sell their music to a label and landed a contract with Atlantic. Once the deal was done, Atlantic re-released Shoreline’s first album ShorelineDoThatShit as well as a bunch of other new material.

FENIX FLEXIN Shoreline’s results were quick as word spread and a solid fan base started to grow. When their first audio track “Musty” hit a million views on YouTube, they knew things were getting serious. This led to making videos for this song and “Bottle Service.” These videos are not overly produced short films, either; they are a real representation of the Shoreline’s life in the streets. The videos soon caught the attention of Los Angeles Fox 11 News station, which did a special story on them. The segment was done in a negative light, warning parents about kids drinking “lean,” which is made from mixing Sprite with prescription cough medicine containing Codeine. Though it was done to look down at this group, it actually turned into a huge shout-out for Shoreline. They even took humor in it by adding clips of it to tracks and videos as well. The numbers prove Shoreline’s popularity as they have skyrocketed to a collective billion streams on various platforms. Just recently, their single “Bands” became RIAAcertified Platinum, which is an industry standard for making it big! Though music streams don’t pay as much as record sales, Shoreline definitely cashes in with booking performances and merchandise sales. Although they’re shining in the limelight, they still keep it hood and haven’t lost love for the streets.

During the shoot, we got to hang out with the crew and learned how different their lives are now that they’re famous. For Ohgeesy, flashy cars like the Rolls-Royce Cullinan from Newport Beach Rolls-Royce are a must. “You can’t show up to a place in a beater and expect to get respect for what you do,” he confesses. With newborn babies in hand, Fenix and Ohgeesy were showing more than love for the art of rap or cars. Life for these artists has definitely changed in many ways and having
babies is another curveball in their lives. Travelling to 270 shows booked over the year is hard when you want to be at home with the family. “I try to make shows kind of like as separate as possible so I’m not on the road 247,” Ohgeesy says. “I don’t want to miss major moments.” Life hits everyone at one point or another but they make the best of it and Shoreline has a lot less to worry about these days. “I’m enjoying everything while it’s there and there are different things to enjoy about everything,” Fenix adds.
To some, Shoreline Mafia may just be a group of rowdy kids, but they are a real representation of what is going on in the streets. The music is still as raw as the day they first started given they know where they came from and stay true to their beginnings. Up next is an album that was partially recorded at Big Island Sound recording studio in Hawaii because the group told us they wanted to catch a “vibe.” Be on the lookout for them, as this group will be hitting even harder soon.

H
ip-hop was born in the streets as individuals discovered how to use music to express real-life struggles. Since its inception, hip-hop has been an outlet of self-expression for many and now R. Baron is paving the way for future artists. Founded by TK Kimbro and Jeremiah “Picaso” Aubert, R. Baron is looking to dominate the music scene despite only being in the game for a few short years. Like the artists they manage, the founders had their struggles and shared the same background as many of their acts. When life is hard, you make due and hustling seemed to be the only way to make a living. Hoping to make a change, TK merged his business knowledge together with Picaso’s creativity to establish their artist management firm and creative agency. The idea was to turn the have-nots into the haves by pushing artists that endured the same struggles.
the great men that helped industrialize this country and made a fortune for themselves. These men included the likes of John D. Rockefeller, Andrew Carnegie, J. P. Morgan, Cornelius Vanderbilt and Leland Stanford who were all given the nickname “Robber Barons” as a derogatory term for their ruthless business ethics. TK thought this was a good way to describe his neo-capitalist efforts and decided to go call the business R. Baron to pay homage to these infamous industrialists. Before the new name, the duo signed an upand-coming rapper named Raven Sorvino. After discovering her talent, they promoted her and landed her various business opportunities in the industry. Eventually she went from being a rapper to a fashionista and formed her own company, Out Here Girls. Using the exposure and connections they gained from the experience of working together on an artist, TK and Picaso moved forward and continued to strive and make big moves.
Inspired to make big moves and build an empire of their own, they were motivated by

While looking for the hottest new acts on the west coast, they connected with 03 Greedo, Drakeo the Ruler and the Stinc Team, 1takejay and Shoreline Mafia. Fully prepared to handle artist management, R. Baron was able to score a record contract with Atlantic for Shoreline. While busy working to get Drakeo and 03Greedo out there, the two were incarcerated. Greedo is now serving his 20-year sentence and at the time of publication, Drakeo was acquitted of his charges and is awaiting release. Once out, he will have some work to do as he is expected to record new material and hit the show circuit once more. With Shoreline’s success at hand, you could say that R. Baron has done well in the industry. However, this is not the end for the team as they are committed to continually finding the best new artists and pushing the envelope by representing the best in the biz.

LIL UZI VERT’S $2-MILLION COLLECTION

hen you’re a rap superstar, a collection of some of the world’s finest rides is practically a given. World renowned rapper Lil Uzi Vert knows this all too well and has invested more than 2 million into a highly customized fleet of extoic cars. His collection is what dreams are made of, flossing a Rolls-Royce, Lamborghini, Audi, a couple of Bentleys and more - all matched to his personal preference of army green. He actually showcased his entire collection with us at the 2019 Philadelphia International Auto Show to adoring eyes and fans.

Michael Layton of Car Effex is responsible for a few of his lavish rides. He met the rapper from another customer of his, Eagles defensive end Vinny Curry, and the result is a collaboration that spans several vehicles. “He first came to me wanting his Bentley truck wrapped and from there he took off with ideas,” Michael admits. “He’s also added multiple cars to his collection since then and I’ve done about eight counting for him.”

According to Michael, every week something new is being done or changed to each of his vehicles, whether it’s a new wrap scheme, new wheels and tires or adding more horsepower. “We are constantly working on Uzi’s fleet,” he details. “He definitely has the most unique rides around. But his craziest request was to strip down everything to the bare bones on his Bentley Continental and then build it by hand again in-house to his specific vision. It took a lot of brainstorming, hard work and long hours to complete the project.”

The addiction to the hottest rides on the planet is real and Lil Uzi Vert doesn’t seem to want to curb his appetite for more given he just purchased a red and white $1.7-million Bugatti (formally owned by Floyd Mayweather Jr.) to celebrate his 25th birthday back in July. He took to his IG account to show off the new purchase, along with some of his other rides, including the Lamborghini Urus, Rolls-Royce Cullinan and Audi R8. In the IG video, he clearly admits that “These are my kids. If I’m iced-out, you think my car is not iced-out?” The rapper signed a new management contract with Roc Nation and he’s ready to get back to doing what he does best - making music - despite hinting at retiring from the rap game entirely. It’s been two years since his debut album dropped and fans have been anticipating a new joint (his sophomore album was supposed to be called Eternal Atake), which might happen now thanks to Roc Nation. Things are looking up for the rapper and the Buggatti was only a glimpse of what’s to come from Lil Uzi Vert in the coming year. 54

he Dodge Viper is an American sports car with nine lives it seems. After being discontinued twice, it seems Dodge will bring back its two-seater in 2020 after ending its production (for the second time) in 2017 due to financial trouble. While many enthusiasts are highly anticipating the release of the new Viper hopefully next year (which would mark the cars 30th anniversary since its 1989 debut at the Detroit Auto Show), there are some that prefer a nostalgic piece of automotive history. Leo Vediz is one of these few who wanted something more timeless. “I thank God every day for allowing me to own this Viper,” he admits. “I initially bought my ACR because I wanted to track it, but once I found out that Dodge decided to stop production on it, I realized I had a gem on my hands and wanted to make it a garage queen.” Before the Viper, he had a 2015 Corvette Z06 that according to Leo “broke the Internet” due to its massive
appeal, so the new build needed to surpass the former. To transform his Viper into a garage queen, Leo had to first figure out what sort of “queen” he wanted. Despite the trend to have crazy colors, such as color shifting or chameleon-like vehicle wraps, Leo wanted something classic to go with the look and feel of Viper. He decided to throw it back to the 1990s Fast and the Furious days of automotive culture. “I went with a simple gloss orange exterior that pays homage to Paul Walker and the Toyota Supra that he drove in the movie.” For Leo, the popular franchise was more than just entertainment, but his gateway into the customizing scene. “I would have never started what is now the biggest club in the world, Headturners Car Club, so I’m truly thankful to him and the legacy he left behind. May he continue to rest in peace.”

He then enlisted a buddy of his to design his vision for the car on his Xbox Forza Horizon video game and fell in love with the finished product. Connecting with companies was the next step in his intricate plan, enlisting Wrap Legacy for the wrap and Simbolo X for a custom set of 3-piece wheels. Mike’s Exhaust did the muffler delete so that the Viper’s unrestricted rumble would be heard while also demonstrating the power of its monstrous V10 power plant. The color shift halos also give it an aggressive appearance, especially at night, Leo adds. 60

To give the Viper an online persona, Leo named it Lucifer as a way to connect the car’s namesake to the snake in the Garden of Eden. After its debut on his @headturnerscarclub IG account, the car went viral despite its mixed reviews. “Some people have said that the Paul Walker livery only belongs on a Supra, while others say it’s a great way to remember Paul Walker,” Leo explains. “Others like how I combined the muscle and import scene together in one car, which I know Paul would have appreciated. He loved all cars, not just imports.” But it doesn’t matter what people say about the Viper since Leo is 100% in love with his creation. “Every time I get behind the wheel and see people’s smiles, I realize how much people admired Paul Walker just as much as I do.”

he true art of customization is being able to take any base vehicle and turn it into a masterpiece. Chris Church, co-owner of Precision Fiber, Inc., didn’t need the latest popular truck model to compose his grand pickup that would later become 40 Shades of Grey. Originally, he bought the 1940 Ford pickup for his wife because it was her favorite body style when it came to classic trucks. “It came from a Portland swap meet for only $6,500,” he admits. “But not much remained of the original truck.” It didn’t have an engine or transmission, but Chirs felt it was still in decent condition to be transformed into something great. “I could definitely see the potential.” MAGAZINE 2019

The plan was to build a top-quality truck that would tour the show circuit and still be able to “rip it up” on the highway. After seeing a classic Porsche 356 at a show in Bend, Oregon, in a similar grey paint scheme, Chris was inspired by the look and 40 Shades of Grey was born. Having been into design since he was a kid, he sketched the truck, starting with the hood vent badge on a cocktail napkin while enjoying “Taco Tuesday” at a local restaurant. From there it was time to map out the rest of the mods, including what brands were going to be used
to bring his vision to reality. “This truck was a bucket list build for sure, with my previous trucks being mild in comparison.” “We didn’t compromise on anything,” Chris details. “We only used top vendors for the best build around, and it all started with the motor from Wegner Motorsports.” Working closely with the team at Carolina Kustoms in Portland, Oregon, Chris was able to get enough support to complete it in only eight months, which is quite impressive given the amount of work that went into finishing a build of this magnitude.

The only challenging part of the build was the extensive amount of metal fabrication and modification. “We removed the drip rails and cowl vent then added a big back window and modified windows while also creating the grille,” he explains. “Then we joined the hood pieces, swapped the headlights opting for 1939 coupe headlights and added frenched-in taillights. But 1940 sheet metal has a mind of its own, so we had to source metal from various vehicles to get a perfect fit.” The only thing he wished he’d done differently was to give himself more time before its debut to really hone in on some ideas he didn’t get to incorporate the first time around.
“But it’s a show-stopper for sure,” he admits. “People always come back saying they find more details in it with every glance they take.” It was the first custom you saw as you entered the front doors in the SEMA booth, which was a huge honor for Chris. Despite being an already impressive truck, Chris mentions that there’s always more details to add. When it’s not hitting the shows and if local weather permits, Chris is more than willing to take it to be driven and enjoyed as a custom truck should be.

he So. Cal DUB Show Tour stop was a bit different this year. Instead of our usual Los Angeles Convention Center or the Anaheim Stadium location we’ve done in the past, we switched it up and went to the Inland Empire to have our annual show at the Auto Club Speedway in Fontana on July 20th. And instead of our day show, we held the event at night from 5 to 11 PM. The Fontana show featured the new DUB DFRT truck series competition that showed off speed, precision and braggin’ rights. The Monster Energy Lounge provided samples of the latest Monster flavors, and provided tons of eye candy from the likes of the Monster Energy girls. The LFTD & LVLD Truck & Jeep Showcase Fueled by Nitto had the hottest custom off-road vehicles in the region. When it was time to unwind from all the booths, eye-candy and sounds, the show featured some of the best food trucks in So Cal. The concert stage was lit with performances by Shoreline Mafia, Lil Xan, 1TakeJay, O.T. Genasis, Mellow Man Ace, G. Perico, Bozo and Fatboy Bizzle. The show was hosted by Watts Homie Quan, with special guest DJ set from local radio station Real 92.3, including J Cruz, DJ Amen, Dre Sinatra and DJ Lezlee.

his year’s DUB Show Tour lineup has added new stops and locations, including Albuquerque, New Mexico. We touched down in the southern states on August 3rd and took over the Albuquerque Convention Center for the afternoon and evening. The show featured tons of the region’s hottest customs, including Lowriders, exotics and everything in between. The Monster Energy Lounge was a fan favorite because of the meet and greet with the Monster Energy Girls, Mayte Lopez and Yesenia Vidales, and all the Monster flavor samples. The LFTD & LVLD Truck & Jeep Showcase Fueled by Nitto was the place to be if you love custom off-road trucks and Jeeps. he nation’s largest custom car show and festival hit Chi-Town on Saturday, August 10th at the Hawthorne Race Track! The Monster Energy Battle Grounds fueled by Nitto featured some of the sickest customs in the region. From the tallest trucks and Jeeps to the most trickedout imports and domestics, the Windy City’s Hawthorne Race Track was lit on August 10th. The event was hosted by DJ V-DUB from local 107.5 fm and featured some eye-candy for every type of car enthusiast. The Monster Energy lounge was jampacked with visitors eager to sample the latest Monster flavors and checkout the beautiful Monster Calendar Girls, Brianna Gonva and Shay Medal.
