EDITOR’S NOTES It’s a new year and with it comes new goals, new hopes, and a sense that things can only get better as the seemingly darker end of the first decade vanishes from the rear view mirror. With every new year comes the hope for greater things, but Snoop Dogg doesn’t have to hope because his new year is sure to be filled with heaps of success. Fresh off the release of his tenth album, the Doggfather is taking his career to new heights with his new Creative Chairman position at the resurrected Priority Records. When he’s not busy at work, check out how he plays, driving around some truly bespoke rides. Success isn’t only reserved for Snoop in the coming year; the “Boss Man” Rick Ross is taking charge with his new record label, Maybach Music Group and new rap group, Triple Cs. As one of hip-hop’s elite, Ross’ near future holds two new albums, one being a collabo effort with fellow lyricist Birdman. With huge success comes some sizeable rewards, and Ross is no stranger to gifting himself with fine vehicles and custom cycles, which is why his garage is filled with auto brands we could only dream of driving like his Aston Martin Vanquish S, RollsRoyce Phantom, Maybach 57 S and Bentley Continental GT. And speaking of a Bentley, feast your eyes on the menacing 2008 Bentley Continental GT Speed from Street Concepts Elite. Nicknamed the “Dark Knight,” the British import features a matte-black exterior fitted with an exclusive widebody Premier 4509 body kit and adorned with carbon fiber accents. It’s enough to make Bruce Wayne want to trade in his Batmobile. It’s always good to come off the Christmas season doing something charitable, which is why you should purchase $10-raffle tickets to win the stunning TapouT “Simply Believe” Mask tribute bike that AKA Custom Cycles built to commemorate the loss of an amazing person. All proceeds will go to Make-A-Wish and TPOA Children’s Charitable Foundations. Thanks to Killer Kreations owner Fred Scicoli, the images on the bike jump right at you. But then again, all the bikes he pens with his artistic magic do just that. Read his feature to know more about upand-coming Picasso of cycles. Don’t forget to see how it all went down at the 2009 SEMA show in Sin City this past November, as well as the Miami and L.A. D-Day shows! Since you’ll want to be riding around in something fly, we’ve also included the 2010 Wheel and Tire Guide. Browse though all the new wheel designs to see which one you’ll want turn heads with. Here’s wishing all of our readers and fans a Happy New Year! Enjoy 64.

DWIGHT HOWARD’S KNIGHT XV

Dwight Howard’s Knight XV is HUGE! I can just imagine how it turns heads when he drives it; I’ve never seen anything like it. The photo in Issue 63 with it next to an H2 really shows how big the Knight XV is. How does it compare to the H1? That thing must be a terror on the petrol, how much gas does it thing suck up? Bruce G. Via e-mail You’re right, Bruce, the Knight XV Howard has is one monstrous beast. The H2 looks tiny, miniscule, laughably petite next to the Knight XV. Part of the reason for its massiveness is that the Knight XV is built to withstand, well, just about anything. It has a 40 gallon tank that’s necesary for the 10,000 pound vehicle to get around, but it’s also E85 flex-fuel capable so it might not be that bad on fuel cost. Check them out at www.conquestvehicles.com

TOPO: THE WIDEBODY KING

THE PLATINUM GAME Good look on the Platinum Motorsport spread! I like the whole story being like a Chess game. These guys are definitely focused and making moves. Owning their own business like that right out of high school and being only in their mid-20s is just crazy to me! Sounds like they owe much of their success to their father for first starting the business and giving them something to work with, as well as giving the bros inspiration to do better. Manut Gill Via e-mail Thanks for the thumbs up on the Platinum Motorsport spread, Manut! We’re always trying to switch things up a bit and the whole Chess theme for their feature was the perfect fit. The Keshishyan Brothers approach business in a well thought out and well calculated way, just as in a perfect game of chess. They do have their father to thank for all that they have since he was the one who introduced them to the automotive industry. Theirs is truly an American Dream success story that should inspire us all to follow our dreams to the limits!

D-DAY: BACK IN FULL EFFECT I’ve been a fan of DUB since the Sprewell issue and remember when you guys first had D-Day. When I heard that it was coming back this year, I immediately called the old crew and we got our tix! It was an awesome show and all I can say is to bring it back next year! I think outdoor events are just better for car shows, but maybe bring it a little closer to L.A. because the drive to San Bernardino is kinda far. J. Herderson Via e-mail

Thanks for profiling the man behind the widebody phenomenon. I always hear of Topo and his widebody Challengers and Chargers, but never really knew much about him until I read your cover feature on him in Issue 63. He sounds like a pretty down-to-earth dude who’s really humble despite all his recent success. The way he styled the widebody on the Camaro is perfect; he made an already good ride even better. How much does he charge to do a custom build like that, and how do you get in touch with him? Btw, I like the way you did the cover with the Camaro only and D. Howard on the other side! Spyder404 Via e-mail Thanks for dropping a line to us Spyder404! Topo is is definitely a humble and talented automotive trendsetter, which made it a no brainer to feature him and his lastest creation on the cover. Topo’s a busy man, but if you want to get in touch with the widebody king, send him an e-mail at maffia. customs@gmail.com. As far as pricing goes, you’d have to contact him to find that out since almost all his projects are one-off builds. One thing for sure is you’ll be getting your money’s worth!

10 DUB MAG JAN / FEB 2010

Thanks for being with us since the beginning, J, and we’re glad you had a great time at D-Day. This year’s D-Day was a huge success and we definitely plan on bringing it back next year! We got a load of awesome feedback on the show and the distance was the only thing people weren’t digging. Yeah, the drive to San Bernardino is pretty rough, but we wanted to bring it back to where the show first started! We’re deep into the planning stage for next year’s DUB Show Tour and D-Day events and all the latest information can be found at www.dubshowtour.com

The interior of the vehicle also underwent an Onyx makeover with full perforated buffalo hide leather from top to bottom, including all seats, door cards, the center console and logoed headrests. Onyx has also added their own carbon fiber interior package with upgrades like door handles and heater vent surrounds. Starting this year, both Onyx’s Range Rover Sport and Vogue conversions will fit the new 2010 models with some minor cosmetic adjustments to differ the old from new. NISSAN LAND GLIDER ELECTRIC TWO-SEATER CONCEPT Unveiled at this year’s Tokyo Motor Show, the Nissan Land Glider concept is an electric twoseater that is designed to lean as much as 17 degrees when turning corners, similar to a motorcycle. The concept’s power source is from two electric motors in the rear that use lithium-ion batteries mounted under the floor. The car also features a car-robotics style crash avoidance system that’ll steer it automatically away from other vehicles or obstacles. Interior configuration has passengers sitting in a line, one right behind the other, not next to each

other as in traditional two-seaters. It’s a concept, but Nissan hints that this two-seat electric car “should not be regarded as a mere design study,” but there’s no immediate plans for commercial production.

THE ALGAEUS The first algae-fueled vehicle called the Algaeus made its way across America back in September 2009 as a publicity stunt for the film Fuel. The car is actually a converted plugin Prius outfitted with a nickelmetal hydride battery and filled with a blend of 5 percent algae and 95 percent gasoline from Sapphire Energy. It took 10 days to go from San Francisco to Washington, DC. Although a 5 percent blend of algae doesn’t exactly signal the start of an algae revolution, but it does mean that progress is being made on fuel with great potential

INFINITI BRINGING M35 HYBRID INTO PRODUCTION Infiniti will be launching its 2012 M35 hybrid sometime in 2011 and is the company’s first hybrid in its 20-year existence, as well as the cleanest and most economical car in Infiniti’s history. Realizing the high performance/low emissions promise of the recent Infiniti Essence concept car, the M35 Hybrid has been designed and engineered to add to, not take away from, the driving experience, a key part of any Infiniti’s appeal. The M35 Hybrid is based on the all-new M, which itself picks up styling cues from Essence that made its debut at the 2009 Geneva Auto Show.

Infiniti’s hybrid system is a single electric motor/twin clutch arrangement. Innovatively, the first clutch is installed between the naturally aspirated 3.5-liter V6 and the electric motor. The M Hybrid can also run solely on its electric motor in certain driving conditions, furthering fuel efficiency and optimizing energy usage across the widest possible range of driving conditions. Details of driving range, performance and transmission will be released later.

VOLKSWAGEN L1 CONCEPT and the road trip allowed skeptics to see the progress in action. The main point of the Algaeus is to show the ability of algae to be used in a standard engine. Sapphire Energy plans to produce two million gallons of algae fuel per year for the next two years with hopes of it becoming cost-competitive in the next few years at $60 to $80 a barrel. The company intends to create a 10 percent algae blend for its future commercial products. Sapphire is also producing one million gallons of algae-based jet fuel this year.

Touted as “the most fuelefficient automobile in the world,” Volkswagen’s L1 concept uses only 1-liter of gasoline to drive 62 miles, which is about 230 miles per gallon. The tiny engine will only get the car up to about 75 mph and, as such, VW doesn’t expect to sell a lot of them. Safety concerns might also keep the car from being a best seller, as well as the limited interior that has the single passenger sitting behind the driver, like in a small airplane. But, since it does have four wheels, it will have to meet all of the normal

safety regulations for cars. VW will continue to release details on the car, but they are pretty sure that it will be produced by 2010.

lace both a sleek, modern new car and a custom old school in front of Snoop, and hands down, he’ll pick the old school. But you can’t be mad at the Doggfather for passing up on a new ride. “That’s my nature; that’s me,” he says about his preference. “I’m a ’70s baby, and I’m inspired by my generation ’cause when I was a kid that’s all I saw and it stayed in my mind—that’s what I get down with. These new sh*t don’t move me ’cause they ain’t gonna be here long since it changes all the time. Old stuff gets stuck and you can’t change it.” While his garage does include several new

rides, it’s his old schools that get his heart pumping. The 1967 Pontiac Parisienne, aka Snoop’s Lakers ride, that we first shot in Issue 54 now shows off his favorite NBA team on the outside with a custom mural. “I call it the ‘never-seen-it’ ’cause you ain’t never seen one like this before,” Snoop explains. “The mural on the front got all the greats from the Lakers’ organization, starting off with my main man, (RIP) Chick Hearn, Magic, Kareem, Kobe, and the greatest Lakers of all…me; why not.” Besides the mural done by Taz Rock, Snoop upgraded the car to bleed purple and gold with a custom interior,

sound system enclosure in the trunk and even the hydraulic switches got the Lakers treatment. “I bought the car in Vancouver when I was doing a video,” he continues. “It was all white, but I brought it back and had it whipped, dipped and flipped, so I could hit the strip. An old school car makes more noise when you hear it hitting the street opposed to a new car. If you have an old school car that looks good and a new school car, more people are gonna ask you about the old school one ’cause you’ll see five or six people with that new car.” Besides his revamped Lakers ride, Snoop also

digs his 1967 Fleetwood Cadillac “Snoopdeville” with the chandelier light that turns on when you open the front doors. The exterior features a oneof-a-kind paint job with Snoop’s name so you know who you’ll be riding with, as well as gold and platinum gold leafing done by Mike Lamberson, which Mike calls “Dragon Lines.” There’s also a mural on the trunk with Snoop’s portrait along with his two sons. “The mural is called ‘Me and my doggs,’” Snoop explains. “It symbolizes me and my sons and all of us being together. It’s a sweet car.” It rides on 16-inch Dayton 100-spoke wire wheels and Vogue tires. But his Cadillac isn’t the only thing that’s sweet for Snoop; his career is probably even sweeter now since he’s recently been named Creative Chairman of the resurrected Priority Records, by parent company EMI Music. Along with the new position, he’s released his tenth studio album, Malice N Wonderland, on the famed West Coast label. Snoop will also act as executive producer for a number of new releases in celebration of the label’s 25th anniversary. “The first thing I want to accomplish is to execute my record and make sure it comes out with a bang—sounds good, feels good—because that’s the beginning,” he says. “If I start with my record, it’s like a foundation. It’ll be the bar and the standards we reaching for; once I do that, we can go back and open the vault for all the great music that we created for the West Coast.” In the near future, Snoop hopes to re-release those records and put out compilations to mix old music with the new. In a press release, Snoop said that the partnership was a great feeling. “It’s a new partnership, a new Priority Records, and a new Snoop Dogg: the Creative Chairman…the Boss Dogg…the Dogg Father. The business model Snoop’s 1967 Fleetwood Cadillac “Snoopdeville” is dedicated to his sons, who are featured on the car’s trunk mural. In terms of his latest release, he describes it as being “the most potent dose of Snoop Dogg yet!” With epic collabs with music’s finest like The Dream, Brandy, Soulja Boy, R. Kelly, Pharrell and more, the new album will definitely feel good, according to Snoop. “It’s all about a party expression and celebrating what’s going on good in your life…feeling really good in my life right now.” Snoop actually handpicked every collabo on the album. “I always do my part first and then listen back and say, ‘Who’d make it sound dope,’ then I reach out. I’m like, ‘Nephew, it’s your uncle Snoop. I gotta heater right now. Can you get down with me?’ and they’re like, “Man, send it to me unc. I’m with it.’ Then that’s it!” Taking about six months to make, Snoop acknowledges that this album is a bit more mature than his previous ones, but it still depicts the same old Snoop everybody has come to love and adore. The first half of the album is geared with gritty tracks reminiscent of Snoop’s

The intricate detail and precise airbrush work he puts into all of his designs is almost unreal, as they seem to pop up from their medium in a 3D way. In one word, they are killer; probably one reason why he named his shop Killer Kreations based out of South Philadelphia. The self-taught artist is blazing the airbrush scene with his superior talents and quickly growing into a hot commodity within the aftermarket/ customization scene. Known for his street bike works of art, Sicoli, 35, and his team at Killer Kreations will tackle any truck, rod or chopper that drives through the studio. They’ll also lay their magic on all types of helmets, surfboards, skateboards, snowboards,

and canvases, as well as airbrush murals on thee walls of homes and restaurants. All work done at ith Killer Kreations is produced by Sicoli himself, with work taking as little as 2-3 weeks or as long as 8-10 weeks, depending on the type of project. Having worked on so many projects to date, his most favorite one has to be the green “Horror” bike that features villainous characterss . ut “The colors and the way the characters came out d are amazing,” he describes. “It’s so different and unique; definitely not something you’d normallyy st see on the street.” While he hasn’t met his most challenging request concerning artwork yet, he considers the TapouT “Mask” memorial bike to me be his hardest project to date because of the time o constraints he faced to finish it. “It was given to me last minute, and I had to have it completely done to show at the 2009 SEMA Show. very stressful f l project.” j ” With an interest in art brewing since he was a boy, Sicoli, has more than 15 years of airbrushing experience. He always knew his future would involve art and right after high school began his first artistic business venture doing screen printing and tees. “It didn’t go so well like I thought it was going to be, so my father suggested that I try doing automotive stuff and artwork for cars,” he describes about how he got into his current specialty. “One of my dad’s friends had a motorcycle and I painted it. Everybody loved how it turned out, and I made a lot of money on it. I decided to continue it and just started getting bigger customers from there.” Growing into the notable entity that Killer Kreations has become over the past year took some time for Sicoli, who faced a couple of challenges in his career and personal life. “There was a real rough period for a while—my mom passed away and then I lost my previous place to a flood,” he says. “I was driving around in a van for two years doing work out of it. I was literally

Now, he has a TV show in the works, is booked months in advance for his work, has several employees working for him and is expanding the business to include various mediums of art, including his own clothing line. “We’re trying to reach out to TLC,” he explains about the show. “It’s not going to be about bikes or cars, but more about the artwork, what we do at the shop and our lives. We have a bunch of characters working here, and the clients that come in have stories behind them.” Some interesting story he mentioned was of a war veteran who wanted his prosthetic leg airbrushed. While Sicoli’s main work at the moment involves bikes and other automotive-related things, he’d like to transition into doing more canvas and illustration work since that’s where his artistic roots lie. “I like doing bikes, but I’m getting older and they take up a lot of work,” he says. “The project has to be really intensive for me to get excited about it.” The reason he

n March, 11, 2009, the world lost a remarkable person. The tragic car accident that took the life of TapouT co-founder Charles “Mask” Lewis Jr. devastated family, friends and fans, custom bike builder, Jason Peterson from AKA Custom Cycles, being one of them. “We’re a big fan of TapouT, MMA and UFC in general, and when we heard about him passing, we wanted to do something to commemorate his memory,” Peterson says. In August, he approached TapouT about building a bike in Mask’s memory, in which Punkass gave him the green light after he saw renderings Peterson’s wife, Meredith, designed. Choosing to name it “Believe” after Mask’s personal motto “Simply Believe,” Peterson chose the 2009 Suzuki Hayabusa as the project bike because it provided a large canvas to work with and outfitted the ‘Busa with various aftermarket and custom fabricated parts to make it unlike any other bike you’d normally see on the streets. To add greater detail to the bike, Peterson contacted Fred Sicoli of Killer Kreations Inc. to do the artwork and really make the bike come alive. “I loved doing this bike,” Sicoli says. “It meant something to me, not just because of the paint job, but because of the dedication that [the TapouT crew] had to their friendship and their devotion to build something out of nothing. So, I put everything I had into that paint job because it reminded me of the struggle that we have here at the shop everyday. It gave me hope that we can do this…like Mask said, ‘Simply Believe.’” Taking 400-hundred man hours to build, the tribute bike was unveiled at the 2009 SEMA show at DUB LIVE! and will be on display at the 2010 DUB Show Tour and be raffled off in August, with

or D-Day’s comeback show, the weather in So. Cal was beautiful - a perfect setting for the outdoor event that was held on Sunday, October 18 at the National Orange Show in San Bernardino. It was literally the ultimate automotive festival as over 13,000 people showed up to see more than 1,600 custom cars, trucks, motorcycles and everything in between, as well as more than 100 vendor booths, and some amazing performances. Nick Cannon, DJ Felli Fel and 99.1 KGGI hosted all the day’s festivities. The concert stage was rocking with performances by Pink Dollaz, Swag, Da Gogettas, Down AKA Kilo, Sen Dog, The Literates, Rydaznrtist, MC Magic, Ya Boy, Mack 10, WC, Dorrough, Paul Wall and Twista. More than 40 of the nation’s largest car clubs competed to take home prizes totaling more than $25,000! The huge cash purse drew in competitors of all kinds, which in turn led to one of the So-Cal’s biggest automotive lifestyle shows ever! The Monster Zone was packed all day long providing Monster Energy beverages and a sneak taste of the new DUB Edition Monster Energy drink! The Kawasaki Street Bike Team, including Rickey Gadson, Jason Britton, Kane ‘Insane’ Friesen, and the lovely Monster Girls made The Monster Zone one of the busiest sections of the show! Joining the street bike exhibition was The Famous Stars and Straps riders J-Beats, Warren Jamez, and Famous Crow who all made stuntin’ look easy. Across the way, the riders stunted in the air and amazed the crowd at the Boost Mobile FreestyleMX arena. The RMD Group boasted Topo’s own widebody Charger and owner Ralph Houlgin’s stacked Audi R8 and Impala, while Uniq Motorsports from Arizona featured an impressive line up of exotics worth more than a million dollars! Legendary graffiti artist OG Abel showcased his latest pieces, his clothing line and a live mural demonstration. A new and instantly popular attraction for D-Day was the Bully Expo, which allowed spectators to get up close and personal with the award-winning bullies from Cosa Nostra Bullyz, Shot Call Kennels and Atomic Dogg Magazine.

ast rhymes, harmonious choruses and a gangster attitude made Bone Thugs-N-Harmony a sensational hit back when they first exploded on the rap scene in 1994. The Ohio-based rappers had memorable hits, such as “Thuggish Ruggish Bone,” “For the Love of Money” and the genre-crossing “The Crossroads,” which they won the Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance. Bone Thugs-N-Harmony have had the privilege of being the only artists who have worked with hip-hop legends Eazy-E, 2Pac, Big Pun, and The Notorious B.I.G. while they were still alive. However, the group has had their fair share of hardships; Flesh-N-Bone’s incarceration and Bizzy Bone’s expulsion. Now all original five members are back once again to make up for lost times with their new album, Uni5: The World’s Enemy. Doing an album 20 years after having everybody together, what’s that feeling like? Wish Bone: It’s an amazing feeling. God has blessed us with longevity, and we’re back in the game working on the next project, bringing a lot of new energy; it’s Bone Thugs reinvented once again. Glad the fans and everybody are anyticipating and looking forward to what we have to present. Do you guys still have something to prove after 20 years in the business? Layzie Bone: Not to prove, we still have something to give to the game. We love music and love pleasing our fans because it’s in our hearts. We proved anything that can be proven in a rap game with our blessing of longevity and we’re still here. You know, Bizzy is back with the group and Flesh is home from prison, so we’ve been keeping it moving despite the adversities we’ve faced. We’re still here because we love it.

PHOTOS: WARNER BROS. RECORDS

What was the actual experience of recording together again like? Bizzy Bone: I wouldn’t say it was the easiest process in the world. It was a lot

16 DUB MAG JAN / FEB 2010

of hard work for us to get all the way back on the same page with so much time away. The chemistry has always been there, but it was more of a challenge than any other album we’ve ever done because of the time span we’ve spent apart from each other. Us recording together is the easy part, the hard part was getting to know each other like when were young. Took a lot of thought and calculations to bring our thoughts and heads together to come up with the exact message we wanted to say and bring. What about this album is going to relate to kids today, or the new generation of hip-hop fans? Layzie Bone: I mean back then, we were dealing with gang violence and pretty much everything that’s pertaining to now. We might be more mature, but by us having children and raising ourselves allows us to relate to what pressures these kids are going through. We keep it real like we always do and tell it like it is. Real recognizes real, so if you’re really going through a struggle, we talk about that; if you trying to recognize your goals, we talk about that; if you’re an asshole, we talk about that. We hit on evey topic and no stone unturned. No the matter age, there’s something you can relate to from Bone ’cuase we’re real. What’s it like to be part of the group again, Flesh? Flesh-N-Bone: Wow, it was like a breath of fresh air, new life, to be born again and then some to be out of prison. My thing is to never have to experience anything like that again. I’m happy to be here and contribute to the group to make our lives even more successful. I have a lot of aspirations and a lot of goals now that I’m back to raise the bar to whatever type of level I can to keep this movement alive. Personally for me, I’m back and I do have a lot to prove, and I’m going to prove it.

iami’s big boss is more than living up to his title. With a larger than life attitude, Rick Ross has taken the music industry by storm in 2009 by dropping two highly successful albums, as well as starting his own record label, Maybach Music, which he hopes to grow into one of rap’s most prolific labels. Ross is no stranger to the pages of DUB. In fact, the last time we spoke to the Boss, he was in the midst of promoting his sophomore venture, Trilla, and riding around town in his (then) signature car, the white-on-white Bimmer. Having outgrown the Bimmer (Ross says that it just became too known for him to ride in since he was often “harassed” in it), he’s moved on to bigger and better things like his Rolls-Royce Phantom and Maybach. “I’m a Maybach man,” Ross answers when asked which of the two luxurious and high-end vehicles he liked most. Using the Phantom more when he likes to be chauffeured around, Ross prefers the Maybach when he feels like flaunting. But these are merely two vehicles out of a collection of about 20 rides, not including his bike collection. “I couldn’t even name them all,” Ross says. “I usually keep like seven or eight at the house and the others come out of the garage whenever we’re ready to play with them.” There is one car in particular Ross has his mind on. “I gotta ’78 Thunderbird that I haven’t even driven yet,” he admits when asked which car is his most fav from his arsenal. “I can’t wait to really play with it a little bit; been out on the road and it was barely completed a while back. She’s waiting on me.” Quite satisfied with what he currently owns – everything from a Bentley GT, Corvette, Murcielago and Aston Martin – Ross hasn’t really seen anything on the market he lusts after. “Who knows though, I might wake up one day and go f*ck with something…you never know.” Ross might be nonchalant about his car collection, but when it comes to his career, it’s all business. Ever since he first appeared on the scene with his 2006 debut album, Port of Miami, Ross hasn’t shown signs of slowing down. The Carol City, Florida native has risen through the ranks of hip-hop with chart-topping hits like “The Boss” and “Here I Am,” both off his 2008 Trilla album. Now Ross is sharing the love and his success with his Triple C’s venture. Comprised of himself, Young Breed, Gunplay and Torch, Triple C’s is a collective effort to showcase Ross’ long time friends and their lyrical talents. “The team Triple C has been together for more than 10 years. From day one, in all of my projects, Triple C’s was on my albums. It’s only right,

the time’s right,” Ross declares. “Now it’s just all about building a brand and taking it worldwide. We put lightning in a bottle and put all our potent music together on [Customs Cars & Cycles]. We got a huge street following and now we’re taking it to that next level of bringing the product to the masses.” Ross describes the sound on the album as “raw, edgy street music,” with notable collaborations from big names like Game, Gucci Mane, Young Jeezy, Bun B and Akon. Besides Ross’ Triple C’s project, he’s also still promoting his Deeper Than Rap album that was released back in March 2009. Growing to be his favorite so far, Ross describes the album as an “emotional roller coaster ride.” “I did some peak anthems, street songs, controversial ones and then turned around and gave them beautiful ones like the one with John Legend [“Magnificent”].

I gave both sides of the equation on this joint,” he says. “There’s so much energy in the album; it has a much faster pace and is mosdef a party-street record…that’s what makes it my favorite so far. I’m making the best music of my career. For everybody that got the album, I’m sure they enjoyed it cause it was critically acclaimed, and for the hip-hop lovers that don’t have it, you’re missing out on a vital piece for your collection.” For the album, Ross collaborated with the industry’s best, including Kanye West, Nas, Robin Thicke, The-Dream, Ne-Yo, T-Pain, and Lil Wayne. “Whenever you can collaborate with an artist that you were a fan of before you became an artist is always big,” Ross admits. “Working with all of them was a great experience that’s opened up doors for my creativity.” Ross’ enhanced creativity already has him thinking ahead to his next album due out sometime this year, where he takes it back to his roots by calling it Teflon Don, his first rap name before he took on the moniker of Freeway Ricky Ross. “It’s going to eclipse all my other projects,” Ross says. Originally a nickname for the infamous John Gotti, Ross rapped under the name in the early-’90s and later changed to Rick Ross sometime in ’98. But Teflon Don isn’t the only thing he has coming out in 2010. Ross has been busy recording tracks with Birdman to drop a collabo album, titled H. “We just feed the streets. Me being a fan of the hustle – the grind, [Birdman and I] have the same attitude and hunger coming from streets. He feels the same about me, you already know. We just went in the studio for the hood,” Ross says. “He gave me a lot of good advice for things that will help me be a better executive. We cooked up loads of tracks that we want to put out as a treat this summer.” The duo has also leaked a few things on the Web to give fans a taste of what’s to come.

While Ross will never let go of his place in front of a mic, he’s gladly embracing his role behind the scenes as the CEO of his Maybach Music Group imprint. “I feel like being the boss that I am, it was a natural progression going into ownership of my own label,” he says. “It was years in the making and called it Maybach Music because of the quality of sound we’re making.” As a fan of all musical genres, Ross plans to incorporate various types of artists on his label besides the usual hip-hop act. “Look out for Masspike Miles, an R&B sensation out of Boston, as well as my new Reggae act that’s on fire by the name of Magazeen. I look for that passion for the music in my artists.” Ross also practices what he preaches, having an intense passion for both music and the business that he can’t choose which one he likes best. “They both go hand-in-hand and have perks. You gotta handle the biz, but you also have to love performing, being in the studio and being creative. They both give me that natural high.” While Ross is still growing as a businessman, artist and “Boss” man, he’s sticking to the same formula he started out with. “Everybody evolves,” he says. “Me, I’m just tapping into different things musically. I’m getting better at doing other things, too, so I’m far from my peak. Right now, music and business is all that matters to me.”

ndustry veteran n Shawn Williams is a firm firm believer that a car purchased directly from the dealership is not truly finished until it has been modified—even if that car is a $200,000 Bentley. Case in point is his 2008 Continental GT Speed, which is already Bentley’s improved and modified version of its venerable Continental GT. With a top speed of 202 mph, the GT Speed’s performance features more torque and power and is complemented with tighter handling and improved agility. Behind the 20-inch multi-spoke alloy sports wheels, stopping power is provided via optional $16,500-carbonceramic brakes, which handily decelerates it from three-digit speeds. Aesthetically, only subtle nuances separate the GT Speed from the GT, mainly by way of the iconic, and now dark, chromed upper and lower front grille, the rear lower bumper valance and the lowered stance from the sports suspension. The interior is based on the ultra-luxurious, handcrafted Mulliner Driving Specification, which contributes to the overall driving experience of the GT Speed. So why change anything on an already near perfect machine? For Shawn Williams, it’s second nature. His life and business is based in and

around all things automotive automotive. It’s no surprise that his inspiration was drawn from his shop, Street Concepts Elite (SCE), when he was commissioned by a customer in the Middle East to outfit a white Continental GT Speed with the exclusive Premier 4509 Limited wide body styling package. Upon completion of the job, he was blown away by “the beauty and aggressive stance of the newly transformed GT Speed” and set out to do his own version. The process started with a vision in his head that made its way into several different digital renderings before he was finally satisfied with every line and accent of the vehicle. “All black everything” á la Jay-Z (with a hint of carbon fiber and red) was the end result. With No.18 out of 100 Premier 4509 Limited kits in hand, the project was under way. The installed wide body styling package, combined with a BASF matte-black paint scheme and blacked-out taillights and headlamps, transformed the mildly understated and powerful GT Speed into a menacing, yet elegant, street machine. The carbon fiber accents further accentuate the widened, flowing lines of the GT Speed, as well as the carbon fiber framed all-black Strut grille. To complete the look, one-off 22-inch Nutek 505 wheels paired with Pirelli P-Zero Nero

tires were chosen to fit the new wide body of the GT Speed and encompass the massive brake system. A combination of gloss-black outer lips, matteblack centers, with red flange accents to match the red “Bentley” calipers, were matched to fill the fenders justly. Performance wise, the GT Speed is already a beast, but to help it breathe easier and sound a tone meaner, a Fabspeed stainless steel mid exhaust was added and was then tuned by the automotive tech wizards at Singh Autosport to allow performance to be pushed to maximum potential! Inside looks as luxurious and as a Bentley should to the untrained eye. But, what was already a custom handcrafted interior was changed to suit Shawn’s taste. It was refitted with black Alcantara seat inserts and arm rests with custom MA Carbon interior and a top-notch MA Carbon/ Alcantara steering wheel. In all, more than $135,000 was added in aftermarket parts and customization. Dubbed “Dark Knight” for obvious reasons, Shawn first unveiled his SCE built project at this past SEMA Show and received tremendous praise. “People go crazy over the Premier 4509 kit and always ask me if it’s a prototype or which celebrity owns the car, the response is just phenomenal!” The same reactions were also shown at the 2009 L.A. Autoshow where it was also showcased. He goes on to say, “It’s one of the more practical and every-daydriver wide body applications on the market and not the show-car body kits that you can’t really drive on. I had several legitimate offers to purchase the car during the L.A. Autoshow and am seriously considering the options. I just want to enjoy it for a while longer before moving on to my next project.”

he 2009 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show in Las Vegas proved that the automotive seen isn’t going anywhere. DUB was on hand for all the action with our massive array of eye candy at the DUB LIVE! located outside the Las Vegas Convention Center, as well as a TIS/Dropstars booth inside the show. DUB LIVE! featured a wide variety of lust-worthy vehicles, including the special DUB Edition Ford Taurus SHO and the one-of-a-kind TapouT memorial bike for Mask, which was unveiled at the display. Pioneer Pro DJ sponsored the tunes in the booth that provided a musical show with plasma screens and video mixer where DJs worked their magic. Silver Star Co. brought out some MMA fighters for autographs while DUB’s Monster Energy drink was the talk of the town at the show. Inside, the TIS/Dropstars booth debuted its latest wheel styles, relaunched TIS Modular and introduced Dropstars off-road wheels. Nick Cannon visited the booth to show DUB some love, while Criss Angel raved about his Campagna Motors T-Rex 14-R, which he received during SEMA. But SEMA isn’t always about the cars…it’s about the parties, too! DUB sponsored a media appreciation party at Blush inside the Wynn Las Vegas on Tuesday November 3, while the big bash was the next day. The talk of SEMA was all about the DUB Expo ’09 at Privee Nig Nightclub in Planet Hollywood.

he simple statement made famous by Spike Lee’s alter-ego in early Air Jordan commercials holds true for cars as well – the right set of wheels and tires can make it look, perform and represent your individualism better. With today’s manufacturers pushing the limits of design and technology, the availability of the perfect combination of wheels and tires has never been better. So whether you push a Scion tC, Ford F-150 or Lamborghini Gallardo your choices are virtually limitless.
