e admire bold people for it’s these imaginative individuals who inspire us. We come across a lot of bold talents, but street artist Jona Cerwinske is a special case of bold. With his markers in hand, Jona takes to some of the world’s most expensive cars like a pen to paper. Although many might think that drawing on such high-end cars like Lambos and Ferraris is absurd, there are numerous automotive enthusiasts who see his work as just another way to modify a car. His courageous talent has already attracted celebrity fans like Lenny Kravitz and Swizz Beatz. It takes audacious moves to stay on top of today’s rap game, which is where Rick Ross has sat for the last decade. Fresh off the release of his sixth studio album Mastermind, the Teflon Don is currently flaunting his RollsRoyce Wraith as he continues to demonstrate what it takes to be the Boss. Being out there gets you noticed, and that’s exactly the case with Swift Texas. The famed Cali-based car club is known for their headturning rides and their Texas branch is just as creative with their rides as their California brethren. Their bold modifications make them “the” club in the Lone Star State to look out for at car shows. Skateboarder Terry Kennedy may not be competing professionally anymore, but has created his own path in life that makes room for two of his great loves – skateboarding and his family. His undaunted decision to stop competing has afforded him the opportunity to stay close to home and build his Fly Society empire as well as his garage, which includes a pretty sick Benz and Audi A8. Tony Royster, Jr. is anything but average, having picked up drumming when he was just three years old! The drumming prodigy has toured with Jay-Z for the last couple of years and has traveled the world because of his skills. And thanks to a friend at Savini Wheels, he was able to hook up his Dodge Challenger with some extra trimmings. The more daring, the better is what we say when creating an off-roading machine and that’s exactly what Rebel Off Road keeps providing with an ongoing JK build. The owner spares no expense with his “Rebelcon” and made sure Rebel Off Road keeps it updated with the latest and greatest off-roading parts available. Travis Barker’s personality is enthusiastic and out there, but that’s why he’s so liked by his millions of fans. Oh, to be 19 and rich! Nyjah Huston must live one hell of a rad life skateboarding for a living, affording him a garage of dope rides. My first car was a hand-me-down from my parents and I still can only fantasize about my dream ride – which is that Audi R8 of his. Huston is totally right when he said it’s “the best looking car in the world” in his feature in Issue 88. That custom satin black wrap and carbon fiber hood wrap really make it pop, which is my favorite customization he added to his R8. I can’t help but be a bit jealous, but who wouldn’t!

Kato of Liberty Walk is pure genius! His tuning skills are impeccable and his kits make already perfect vehicles that much more perfect. I had seen his work before, but never knew the story behind the tuning house until your feature in Issue 88. It’s crazy to think that he went from designing kits for Chargers and 300Cs to kits for the likes of Lamborghinis and Ferraris – two household names in the exotic car market, which many would never think of modifying. His mods are aggressive and extreme, but they still look perfect on those cars to me. His Nissan GT-R and Ferrari Italia 458 look amazing in pictures, but I bet look even better up close!

You’re right that he lives a great life, being able to do what he loves as a career and owning some fly rides at a young age. But it’s not all play for Huston, who works hard for the life he has. And the best part about it all is that he’s genuinely a cool person to hang with, who cares about others. His Let It Flow non-profit organization provides clean water to those without such a necessity around the globe. The fact that he cares and wants to share the wealth makes him a true champion in our books!

It’s hard to believe it’s even a kit since everything was done perfectly by LTMW, who clearly weren’t afraid to cut into such extraordinary vehicles. But Kato’s kits are made to perfection and fit just ride on all of the cars he’s created kits for, making him one of the biggest tuners in Japan. As fans of his work, we knew we needed to tell his story to our readers who might not have otherwise known the man behind such stunning automotive beasts. We can’t wait for more Liberty Walk exclusives in the future and, you know we’ll definitely share them with you!

THE UNEXPECTED BEAST As I was reading about the 2014 Toyota Tundra custom truck in your last issue, I couldn’t help but laugh because I also ended up customizing my lifted Chevy Silverado unexpectedly. Just like Benji, I went into the shop for a lift, which eventually turned into a fullblown modification venture. Once I saw it lifted, I knew it needed more mods and didn’t stop until it was covered in aftermarket parts. Sometimes those are the best customizations! Those were some pretty crazy customs that were featured in the Xplizit Car Club feature. They clearly go all out with their mods, leaving nothing untouched, which is probably why they’re such a well-known car club in the States (and beyond). Although they’re a bit too out there for my taste, I give them props for their elaborate vehicles. I have friends who enjoy detailed rides and see all the work and commitment they put in to get their cars on that level. Charlie U. LAMBORGHINI GALLARDO ADDED TO LAPD FLEET The City of Angels’ LAPD has stepped up their game by adding a Lamborghini Gallardo to their fleet. And here we thought only the Dubai Police were afforded such exotic work vehicles. The Gallardo won’t be fighting crime on Los Angeles streets, though, but will instead act as a charity vehicle alongside the LAPD Air Support Team. It was donated to the force from Travis and Nathalie Marg, the owners of Light Source 1, which is a fiber optics company. The Gallardo has been dressed up with police livery and will definitely put smiles on a few faces, and since it’s a donated car, no public funds whatsoever were used to purchase it (although they will have to use some to gas it up).

WORLD’S MOST EXPENSIVE TESLA MODEL S T Sportline, the world’s first Tesla tuner, collaborated with Al & Ed’s in West Hollywood, CA to build the “World’s Most Expensive Tesla Model S.” Starting with the exterior, T Sportline supplied its four-piece carbon fiber sports package, consisting of a re-designed front apron that replaces the OE factory plastic piece below the front bumper. The other three pieces consist of a rear spoiler, rear bumper diffuser and center diffuser - both of which replace OE factory parts. Being that the car was blue, T Sportline felt the Model S was best contrasted by its GhostGold Limited Edition wheel set in 21x9 front and 21×9.5 rear. The Model S retains the factory P85+ tires from Michelin - 245/35R21 front and 265/35R21 rear. To improve vehicle stance, the Model S was lowered an inch with T Sportline’s lowering kit. Interior enhancements from T Sportline include a complete 5-piece floor mat set for the passenger cabin and the trunk. T Sportline offers floor mat sets in an embroidered “T” logo or its complete crest in signature green.

MERCEDES-BENZ ZETROS IS THE ULTIMATE ALL-TERRAIN VEHICLE If you want the ultimate all-terrain ride, then you need to get yourself a Mercedes-Benz Zetros that’s not only great as a commercial vehicle, but also as a recreational and expedition vehicle. Recently, two Mercedes-Benz Zetros 6x6 with luxurious mobile home superstructures were delivered to Ulan-Bator, the capital of Mongolia, where their proud owners use them for hunting and for outdoor weekend excursions. The three-axle truck with a permissible gross vehicle weight of 25 tons and has a payload (“chassis load capacity” without body) at around 16 tons. It’s powered by a 7.2-liter 6-cylinder in-line engine that cranks out 326 HP. Two transmissions are available: the standard unit is the hydraulically/pneumatically shifted G 131-9 18 | DUB MAGAZINE 2014

nine-speed transmission (eight forward gears + crawler) with a direct-ratio top gear, with a six-speed Allison 3000 SP/PR fully-automatic transmission available as an option. Standard on the Zetros is three mechanical differential locks which can easily be selected by drivers using a rotary control when handling difficult terrain.

C Customs is renowned for their transformations that turn beautifully stock rides into more astonishing exotics. With a client roster that boasts major league baseball players, hip-hop’s finest and VIP jet setters, they’ve recently worked their modifying magic on a 2011 Ferrari California. Their customer knew he wanted a California unlike any other on the road and were confident that MC Customs would turn their dream into a reality. “Money wasn’t an option,” mentions the shop’s co-owner Jhulio Tadeo. “[The client] wanted everything and anything, but really wanted to turn heads. He wanted to make sure there was no other California hotter than his around town.” To enhance the California’s already striking good looks, MC Customs spent hours on the design process to make sure they fulfilled their client’s wishes. Lots of man-hours were spent to ensure all carbon fiber fabricated parts fit perfectly, with the entire build taking six weeks to complete. Opting to use the “best of the best” when it came to products to adorn the California, MC Customs spared no expense. The full NOVITEC ROSSO Tuning Program enhanced both exterior styling and performance numbers. According to Tadeo, there’s nothing better on the market right now than the NOVITEC carbon fiber kit, which

NOVITEC lowering springs ensure a more aggressive ride height, while a full NOVITEC exhaust system provides its growling undertones and gives it added power along with a NOVITEC ECU upgrade. For sound, mostly JL Audio products were chosen since they have “the most complete line of products for this vehicle – from speakers to processors and more,” mentions Tadeo. “And size was extremely important due to the space factor, which was limited with the California. The client wanted something clean and classy and JL Audio provided it all.” Two JL Audio XD 400/4 amps, one HD 750/1 amp, along with three 10” 8w3 subs were chosen for their compact size and amazing sound, while two sets of Audison high-frequency 6.5” HSK 163 component speakers round out audio upgrades. The factory head unit also features a JL Audio CleanSweep CL-SSI interface.

Like previous MC Customs builds, the client was amazed at the finished product, which came out even better than first envisioned. Tadeo’s favorite customization on the Ferrari California is the handcrafted interior that’s dressed in carbon fiber. The interior also boasts custom side sill plates, door panels and front and rear speaker pods. “The NOVITEC kit is also a favorite because it makes the Ferrari a one-of-a-kind custom – including its Vellano wheels with perfect design, quality and finish. We outdo ourselves more and more every time something comes out of our facility and this Ferrari California is a perfect example of that.”

ick Ross is used to a jet-setterâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s lifestyle. Flying from city to city for concerts, appearances and more is just another day in the life of the Boss. Only a couple of days after his headlining performance at the Monster Energy DUB Show in Los Angeles - where he closed the show with classics from previous albums, as well as new joints from his latest

smash album, Mastermind - Ross was right back in his hometown of Miami, ready to shoot with some of his latest rides. “It’s always nice coming out to the West for a DUB Show,” he says. “Car culture on the West Coast is always on top of its game. Got to talk whips with the homie Game. For a car enthusiast like me, the show is always exciting.”

As a DUB Show favorite, a Rick Ross performance never disappoints and neither does his car collection. Known for his eclectic stable of custom classics to the most current of luxury cars, Ross’ 40-car garage is what automotive dreams are made of. Currently, Ross is rolling boss status in Rolls-Royce’s latest iteration, a 2014 Rolls-

Royce Wraith. Like his other Spirit of Ecstasyadorning rides, the Wraith exudes luxury through every detail, from inside and out. As the most technologically advanced vehicle in the world, the Wraith boasts a Satellite Aided Transmission that uses GPS data and then its navigation system predicts the road ahead and the speed you should be driving. collector, I felt it was necessary to add it to my collection. It’s one of my favorites right now. I really like how it has a lot of power, but it’s not heavy - you can really feel it when you’re driving. I try to get in a couple of driving sessions in it whenever I get the chance.” He even made a video blog about his latest purchase back in December, where he introduced fans to his new toy. And because no boss should have to settle for the ordinary, Ross enlisted the help of Miami-based designer and automotive artist Rich B. Caliente to set his Wraith apart from the rest. As one of the first rappers to purchase a Wraith (and one of the first five customers in the country), Ross made sure it kept its sleek, sophisticated style and opted to accent it with an exclusive set of 24” front and 26” rear Forgiato Rich B. Caliente Edition wheels, which is worth $15,000 a set and are limited to only 10 sets worldwide. “I told Rich that I wanted it to be personal and custom - one of one. But at the same time keep it simple and clean. I didn’t want to mess up it’s already luxurious style.”

While Ross’ Wraith is his current favorite, his 2011 Ferrari 458 Italia has been his go-to choice for when he craves more speed. Sitting on a set of 21” front and 22” rear Forgiato Maglia wheels wrapped in Pirelli P Zero Nero tires, the 458 Italia hauls ass thanks to a horsepower upgrade that boosts power up to an astounding 665 horses, mentions Rich B. Caliente. “It’s the ride I get in when I want to listen to new music,” he says. “I’ll go cut a few corners and hit up the beach. Chicks love this car. The smile they give me when they see me in it is great. But it’s the legacy of the car that I like most - it’s one of the best sports cars out there.” Rich B. Caliente is no stranger to Ross’ preference when it comes to his fleet, having already customized five of his vehicles, including his 2008 BMW 745 that was featured back in Issue 64. Next, he’ll get his hands on Ross’ Rolls-Royce Ghost and plans to dress it similar to the Wraith. “We always come up with what the essence of each car should be and build upon that,” he says. “I look at customizing as an artform, with the cars as rolling masterpieces on the road.”

He also mentions that although Ross’s Wraith and Ferrari aren’t overly customized, he doesn’t mind immersing himself in full customizations and restorations as evident in his classic 1973 Chevy Caprice, which was entirely rebuilt and customized to his specifications. “I dropped about a half million in that car,” Ross mentions. “It’s the No. 1 Caprice out there. I made sure everything was redone, every bolt and wire even.” Well worth the wait to get everything perfected, Ross left everything up to his friends at GSE Customs. With a Corvette red exterior and Porsche red interior, Ross’ Cherry Bomb is truly a boss ride. Ross’ car collection is definitely a sign of his success in many people’s eyes. However, Ross defines success by the number of people he blesses, especially when it comes to his MMG family. “When I got a Wraith, DJ Khaled got one, too. When I got a Ferrari, Gucci Pucci got a Ferrari. I believe in my team and want them to have all the success I have. I believe in my family so much that if it was just me, I’d rather not have all the rides. My family is my team and we always ride together.”

kateboarding is still Terry Kennedy’s favorite thing in the world, but it’s not what rules his world anymore. Life has certainly changed since we last caught up with TK in Issue 61. He’s now a father and a husband and isn’t professionally competing in skateboarding anymore. But TK will never stop skateboarding, spending his time making skate videos, street skating at his favorite skateparks and entirely focusing on his Fly Society brand. “I’m a lot older now and have really matured and grown not only as a person, but as a businessman and entrepreneur,” the 28-year-old says. “Don’t get me wrong. I loved those days when I was young and just skated, but now I love spending time with my family and going into the office to grow my brand.” DUB MAGAZINE 2014 | 57

Although he enjoyed traveling and competing for cash prizes at the various competitions, it would have been hard for him to leave his family on a regular basis. “You have to be away a lot, and I didn’t want that. With what I’m doing now, I can go skate locally, go into the office two to three days a week and spend the rest of my time with my wife and daughter. Sure I can go win some money in a contest, but I’d rather concentrate on the things that matter the most to me now. I had to sacrifice some things when I started my family and I’ve learned that I can’t do it all.” TK’s decision to shift his focus on his business only made sense, he mentions, adding that 2014 has so far been a great year for the multi-faceted company that includes a clothing line, skate team and record label. “It’s going really well. I can’t complain about anything,” he says proudly. “It’s such a blessing that I can go on for days talking about Fly Society. I’m hyped about

being able to sponsor kids and have my own skate team. Giving the new faces of skateboarding the chance I was given means so much to me.” Excited that Fly Society is growing bigger and better with each new venture, TK has secured new distribution deals for his clothing in Europe, Japan and Canada. “Our new designs are really dope and it’s great to be able to take the company international. People have really grown to like what we’ve been putting out, so we’re just trying to raise the bar with our designs.” With the apparel line of the company expanding worldwide, the music side is doing just as well. The skateboarder-turned-rapper has been spitting rhymes since he was a teen, after his cousin first pushed him to try it out. He’s also collaborated on joints with hip-hop names like Yo Gotti, Problem, Paul Wall and TDE, to name a few. Founding his Fly Society group in 2007 with friends Fuzzy Felix and H.I.T. (Curren$y was a fellow member before he went solo), TK and his rap crew have released several mixtapes over the years and dropped the group’s Fly Society Classic EP this past December on iTunes.

“We’ll be dropping a lot more music this year,” he mentions. “We’re all about making music for the masses and that includes hip-hop, R&B, pop – every style. We just signed an independent distribution deal with French Montana, so we’re looking to put out whatever type of music we want. We’re all about being multicultural and our music mirrors that. Fly Society is about everybody and all our entities reflect that.” His new chapter in life also features some new rides – a 2014 Mercedes-Benz E350 and a 2013 Audi A8. Luxury is still his key car trait, but now he’s also looking at performance – something the A8 provides him. “I like the way it handles. It’s a luxury car, but it performs like a sports car in my opinion.” The A8 is TK’s leisure ride, while the Benz is all business. He also recently picked up a BMW 6-Series for his wife, but it’s his A8 that acts as the family weekend car. His choice in vehicles require little to no modifications as is, but the one thing that TK likes on his rides are wheels from Zenetti. The luxury wheel company is back after a hiatus and TK is again one of their brand ambassadors. “I love their wheels,” he says. “They were really ahead of their time and now they’re back making even better wheel designs than before. People love my cars and are always asking about my wheels; even people who don’t like them (some of his skateboarder friends who aren’t “in to” wheels). I’m proud to be a part of the Zenetti

team and will continue to represent them as long as I can. I really appreciate them for always having a vision and including me in that vision.” As Fly Society continues to grow its endeavors, TK is currently looking to expand into footwear since he parted ways (amicably) with Supra. But other than that, he’s content with how things have changed for the better and is

appreciating his dual life as a family man and entrepreneur. But at the core of it all, he’ll always be a skater, first and foremost. “I think the reason why it’s all going so well is that I’m able to still immerse myself in skateboarding while being a businessman. I took what I learned from skateboarding and am applying it to Fly Society, pushing it forward each day.”

t’s no secret that Travis Barker loves his Cadillacs. The famed drummer inherited his love for classics from his father, particularly remembering an old rusted Cadillac that sat in their backyard when he was growing up. His first ride was a beat up ’63 Cadillac, which actually caught on fire on the side of the freeway while going to a show, but his fascination with one of America’s most storied automakers was only heightened. His next big vehicle purchase was a ’66 Cadillac Coupe de Ville that he still owns to this day and claims it as one of his favorites. To commemorate his love for Cadillacs, Travis teamed up with Tilly’s, Pioneer and DUB back in December 2013 to host a special giveaway for one lucky fan – the chance to win his 1965 Coupe de Ville built by Hillview Customs. “Ever heard the saying, ‘Ain’t no fun if the homies can’t have none?’ It’s all about giving back for me, old school cars are a passion of mine and I wanted to give something away that bleeds

Giving away a custom Cadillac of mine is like giving away a piece of me and that makes this contest special for me/us and anybody that enters.” Like all of Travis’ other rides, the ’65 Coupe de Ville has been restored and customized to his own personal style. Hillview Customs dressed it in House of Kolor Copper Penny paint, accented it with custom flaked and laced panels on the roof and added Supreme Wheels with Vogue Tyres (Travis’ favorite wheel and tire combo). It also features a 472 Big Block motor, dual exhaust with glasspacks, custom cream-colored interior and Pioneer sound system. It’s a dream ride for winner Nando Carter from Hanford, CA, who admits that winning it was a really big surprise. “I couldn’t believe it when Travis drove up in the Cadillac,” he says. “They had told me I won clothes; not the actual Cadillac. I must have said ‘Naaaa’ and ‘For reals?’ like 30 times with a big smile.” As a huge Travis fan, Nando was in disbelief that his idol was talking to him in the flesh. “He’s a cool guy to talk with. We chatted for a bit and he asked me if I ever won anything, and I was like, ‘No, but this is like winning the Lotto, but even better!’” Nando entered the contest after Travis posted it on his Instagram, but wasn’t expecting much since he thought “no one from a small town ever wins anything so beautiful.” Well, Travis proved him wrong and now he gets to drive a Travis Barker-customized Cadillac every chance he gets, particularly when it’s “nice and sunny out,” he mentions. ony Royster, Jr. is a musical prodigy – more specifically, a drumming prodigy. In 1987, when all his three-year old peers were busy being toddlers, Royster was already surprising his musician parents (also drummers) by banging out beats on his junior drum set. By the time he was five, he had his own regular drum set and when he hit 11, he won the Guitar Center National Drum-Off competition in California. “I obviously realized at an early age that I loved playing the drums and that it made me happy,” the 29-yearold Royster says. “Music is in my blood.” Thanks to his drumming abilities, Royster has performed all over the world, in widely acclaimed shows, events and has even been featured in films. He was in the Nickelodeon House Band and played at the Grammy’s when he was 15. But his latest gig is one of the best thus far – playing with Jay-Z. Touring with Jay-Z has opened the doors for Royster with some extraordinary performances, such as playing at President Barack Obama’s inaugural ball in 2009 and at the Glastonbury Festival in the UK. “I linked up with Jay after a friend of mine hooked me up with the gig,” he says. “That was six years ago, when he was touring for his American Gangster album and I’ve been with him ever since.” And thanks to being Jay’s main drummer, he’s been able to work with other incredible artists, such as Beyonce, Rihanna, Kanye West and the Jonas Brothers to name a few.

But one artist he’d love to play with is Sting, he admits. “I had the opportunity to play on the same bill as Sting. It was Jay, the Foo Fighters, Norah Jones and Sting, and he had an amazing set. I’d love to have the chance to play with him someday. That would be incredible.” Royster reveals that playing with Jay-Z has been an incredible experience and journey, as well as an “amazing opportunity.” “He’s given me the chance to travel and play at some of the best gigs in the world. From playing on a baseball field for the World Series to playing one of the largest festivals in the world to touring every State and more. He’s a very genuine person that’s all about the business. He’s taught me a lot and has been a mentor to me.” Under Jay-Z’s tutelage, Royster has learned a lot about becoming an entrepreneur and is currently working on a few ventures. Currently, he has a signature Lexdray Stick Bag collaboration and is working on launching a clothing line soon. “I have a number of things in the works, but since I’m on tour so much, it’s been hard to settle down and really commit to anything…but big things are happening.” One of Royster’s latest “big things” includes his 2009 Dodge Challenger SRT8. As a car enthusiast, Royster knew he wanted to

customize his ride but was on the fence between getting a BMW M3 or Dodge Challenger. “I’ve always been a huge fan of the M Series, but didn’t want to buy a 2014 because I knew I wanted to do some modifications to it. While searching for cars on the internet, I luckily came across a 2009 Challenger with only 1,100 miles on it! I knew I had to get it.” Knowing people that work in the automotive aftermarket has its advantages, with a friend at Savini Wheels offering to make Royster a lifestyle brand ambassador and providing him with a set of wheels - an opportunity he readily took. “That friend then told me about Topo and his special style of building widebody vehicles. I looked at some of his work online and liked what he did, so I decided to get the widebody on my Challenger, and I’m glad I did.” Royster changed up his preference for black-on-black rides and went to Chris at JC Customz for a new paint job. “We were going to do matte black at first, but then he told me about all the other matte Challengers he’d done and suggested I try something different. I wasn’t sure what I wanted, so I gave him free reign of choosing the color for my car. I didn’t even know the final color at the beginning of the process. He mentioned a grey, but once I saw the finished smoke grey paint, I immediately loved how it came out.” The TS Designs widebody, fresh paint, Borla Exhaust system, Savini wheels and Pirelli tires have transformed his ride into a head-turning street machine. Royster especially likes his Challenger’s widened rear and the Savini Wheels. “My car has been a non-stop topic with friends,” he explains. “I think the widebody and rims really

complement each other really well.” Being content with the current state of his Challenger, Royster still hasn’t gotten the BMW M3 out of his head, but won’t add to his garage any time soon since he’s rarely home to drive his Challenger. “I’ll get that car in the future, and when I do, it’s going to be fully customized.”

teamed up with then 18-year old Tarik “Civalringz” Azzougarh on production, so the joints on the album will have an old school Wu Tang sound to them. RZA compares the album to that of a contemporary art piece, comparing it to a scepter of an Egyptian king. It’ll go on tour, exhibiting in museums, galleries and festivals before it’s sold for probably millions. hen you’re a heavily sought after producer, the music world is your oyster. Swizz Beatz is one of those producers and his discography of smash hits proves it. He’s worked with practically everyone in the business, including Busta Rhymes, Ludacris, Snoop, Jay-Z, Ja Rule, Nas and so many more top artists. In 2002, the Bronx native stepped up in front of the mic and unleashed his first album, Swizz Beatz Presents: G.H.E.T.T.O. Stories. Jona to new and old forms of art from various parts of the world, encouraging him to find his own style, which he considers to be “the marriage between fine art and graffiti.” He later began perfecting his skills on the streets of Miami through his graffiti on walls and buildings before turning his attention to new canvases like ones with four wheels. “I’ve always had a love of going larger than life in public,” Jona says. “Growing up and painting on the street entailed a lot of danger and trouble. I then realized indoor environments and objects were an untouched field, so I began to refine and beautify any object I could.” Currently, Jona’s favorite medium to work with are powerful and well designed exotics, he mentions. “I mean, who doesn’t want a painting that goes 170 mph? When painting these cars, you’re working in the maker’s mind, tracing the thoughts that make amazing vehicles or any cool object for that matter.” After a night of partying in South Beach, Jona worked on his first four-

wheeled canvas - a friend’s classic VW bug - in an alley “without hesitation.” But his very first noteworthy ride was Lenny Kravitz’s mint 1960 Cadillac Coupe de Ville. “That was a very unreal experience,” he describes. “I slept in that garage for a month.” Jona met Kravitz through mutual friends and has collaborated with him on a number of projects already. Kravitz’s classic Caddy may have been his first big ticket ride, but it was the Lamborghini

Gallardo nicknamed the “Sharpie Gallardo” that he did back in 2007 that really turned heads and created a buzz among car fans and art aficionados. Since then, he’s graced the exteriors of a number of rides, including a Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 Roadster he designed for the most recent Art Basel in Miami. “I’ve worked on a wide range of cars, from American classics and antiques to luxury cars,” he says. “To list them all would be a challenge. My

favorite is still the Caddy I did for Lenny [Kravitz], which has yet to be showcased…so stay tuned.” With each mural, Jona goes in without any design in mind or pre-sketch, deciding in the moment what type of patterns and lines he’d like to apply to each car, making each car he works on a one-of-kind art piece. And while most people would be nervous working on expensive automobiles, it doesn’t phase Jona. “Do I get nervous? Not really. There are no mistakes. I

definitely respect the car, but it’s still a painting.” Completion time for each ride varies depending on the car, with projects ranging anywhere from an hour or up to five months to complete. To create his rolling masterpieces, Jona uses ink and oil markers and metallic pens and then applies a clear coat to its exterior to preserve the ink. “It took a while, but once I found my sword of choice, it became an extension of my body.” How many pens he uses also varies from car to car, but one thing remains the same – the easiest and hardest part of the car to work on. “The hardest is crouching over the roof and drawing while laying down for the bottom. The easiest are the windows.” Despite customizing rides for others, Jona doesn’t do it for his own cars. Instead, he’d

rather stay simple and conservative with his Porsche Cayenne Turbo. “For me it’s more fun to paint crazy cars than to drive them,” he admits. “Honestly, it’s becoming a new found addiction. If it wasn’t for painting these monsters, I may have never been introduced to the game.” Besides his affluent clientele he gets through Toys for Boys Miami – an upscale boutique that caters to the super rich – Jona has shared his talents for many celebrities “from the top of hip-hop to the bottom of Rock ‘n’ Roll.” But one notable customer he’d love to work with would be President Obama. Until the President gives him a ring, Jona is going to continue to do what he does best on some of the most expensive canvases in the world.

hen you’re one of the nation’s most respected car clubs, it’s only natural that you expand into new territories and new cities. Swift Car Club first originated in Southern California, but its notoriety as having some of the hottest custom rides spread like wildfire throughout the country, with new chapters popping up not long after their vehicles started to take home “Best of Show” awards. Back in 2010, two customization enthusiast friends in Texas became friends with Swift members in Los Angeles, CA through MySpace and eventually the discussion about the possibility of a Texas chapter arose. “The Texas car show scene really needed to step up their game,” explains Beto, founding member of the Texas chapters and head council member. “You’d go to shows and see nothing but practically stock rides. And most magazine features were all about clubs from Cali or Florida. We wanted to change that so we decided to form Swift TX. 128 | DUB MAGAZINE 2014

So far, we’ve been doing well and when you go to a car show in Texas, you can really see the difference and the increase in competition. We like to think we helped bring that to Texas.” With only two interested Texas recruits, their first car show as Swift’s potential out-of-state extension was at the Houston stop of the 2010 DUB Show Tour. Cali members traveled down to meet the new additions, and by the end of the show, they had already recruited enough members to start their first official Houston chapter. “Now, we have around 80 members all around Texas, including Houston, Dallas, Austin, San Antonio, Corpus Christi, Laredo, Eagle Pass and West Texas,” Beto says. “We want to have members from all over the state. As of right now, we are really happy with our current members since they’re all really motivated and dedicated to the club’s goals. Even though we have lost a few members over the years, we’ve gained even better ones at the end of the day.”

Club rules and regulations are the same as the chapters’ in California like making themselves available for meetings and car shows, paying dues and owning a vehicle that has at least three custom modifications. “But most important is that new recruits have the right attitude, are respectable and will be loyal to the club,” Beto mentions. “We separate the real from the fake, and if you’re fake, we don’t want you.” As one of the highly sought after clubs in Texas, Beto gets numerous messages daily from people inquiring about the club’s recruitment after admiring the chapter’s rides on social media channels like Facebook and Instagram. And just like their Cali brethren, Swift TX knows how to break necks at car shows, racking up numerous trophies at shows all over the state, in addition to having members’ show cars featured on magazine covers and in music videos for Texas artists like Paul Wall and Slim Thug. “Our club differs from other clubs because we have different styles of cars – from lifted trucks to bagged Lowriders, Euros and more. We have cars with wild paint jobs, some who like it classy and refined to widebody muscle cars and everything in between. We want to have it all to keep the club growing strong and winning trophies.” Always looking to evolve and grow their club, Swift TX wants to stay on top of the car customization game in the Lone Star State. This is achieved by adding more members with awardwinning customs and always working on their current selection so that they’re bigger and better as a club for each new show season. “Many clubs have traveled from other states to try to take our title, but we remain the best car club in Texas. We run the Texas DUB scene!”

he beauty of off-roading is that it’s fun the entire family can partake in. Just grab the fambam, hop in your 4x4 and hit the trails for an exciting day wheelin’. When off-road parts accessory supplier and installer Rebel Off Road was approached by a client to create a familyfriendly 4x4 that could safely tackle the most challenging trails, they pulled out all the stops to make it happen. “The owner wanted a ‘do everything’ offroad rig,” explains Jason Armstrong, Rebel Off Road’s marketing director. “He wanted not to have to take a bypass and skip on a challenging or ‘memory making’ trail. He wanted to know he could throw his kids’ seats in the back and give all the passengers a safe ride doing absolutely any trail he wanted.” Since many are now using the Jeep JK four door as their family car, it was only natural that

it was chosen as the base vehicle for this familyinspired build. Products were selected on the basis of safety and the particular “look” the client wanted. According to Armstrong, having it street legal wasn’t a concern at all. Instead, the owner wanted it to conquer dunes, trails, rocks and more! The Jeep was purchased back in 2008 and has been an ongoing build since then with more than $200k invested in aftermarket parts and labor. Nicknamed the “REBELCON” (Rebel Off Road’s version of a Rubicon), the Jeep will never completely be finished as long as something new catches the owner’s eye. Since the owner demanded the safest and strongest products on the market to date, when the Enterprise Dana 70 rear axle housing was released, its Dana 60 was pulled out and replaced. The Knuckles Off Road front and rear bumpers have also been upgraded over the

years as new designs came to market, which Armstrong explains are unique and feature allangled steel with no curves. “The Armor is eye catching and very durable,” Armstrong describes. “It recently rolled over and only suffered minor cosmetic damage to the matte black wrap.” Another update is the unique tire carrier, (which is the only one that can support a 40” tire at a 45-degree angle) and tall front stinger. “The initial design process, and all designs, include the customer’s input,” Armstrong says. “We listen to how the owner plans to wheel and design accordingly. In this case, the word extreme was used in every step.” For Armstrong, highlights of the build (this time around) include the heavy-duty axles that give the Jeep JK the ability to take on whatever trails it wants. It also runs the very first Ripp Supercharger Gen 2 Stage III supercharger system that provides ample power to easily conquer the

toughest terrains around. With help from its solid set of 17x9 Trail Ready HD Beadlock wheels combined with 40x13.50R17 Maxxis Trepador Competition tires, traction is rarely an issue. But, like most builds, getting all the different parts on the vehicle to be compatible with each other can be tricky. “Armor must work with suspension, and there are several different armor and suspension types involved. The biggest obstacle, though, was our own creativity, ensuring that this Jeep is current and on the cutting-edge of looks meshing with performance.” Considered to be the most extreme, capable and proven Jeep Wrangler JK Unlimiteds in the world for Rebel Off Road, it’s already conquered lots of noteworthy trails. It’s been tested at every trail in Moab, Utah; Coral Canyon in San Diego, CA; the Rubicon Trails in the Sierra Nevada: and the Hammers Trails in Johnson Valley, CA. Now it’s looking to defeat all others that stand in its path.

he City of Angels was roaring with the sounds of excited car enthusiasts and hip-hop fans on Sunday, April 6th for the third stop of 2014 Monster Energy DUB Show Tour fueled by Nitto. The Los Angeles Convention Center was overflowing with over 28,000 showgoers taking in the day’s festivities. Monster Energy is always a main attraction at the DUB Show, and this time was definitely one of their biggest displays ever! DUB celebrity cover, Monster Energy athlete and skateboarding phenom Nyjah Huston greeted excited fans and also displayed his custom Audi R8 in the Monster Energy booth. The lovely ladies Runa Lucienne, Erika Medina, Carissa Rosario and Magda Angel kept the lines busy all day long autographing copies of their new Monster Energy Girls poster calendar. Another mainstay was Tommy Lister, Jr., aka Deebo, who was also on hand with the Monster Energy crew taking time to meet and take pics with all the attendees, while the Monster Energy Freestyle BMX team did demos showcasing all of the gravity defying stunts capable on a bike. And of course, fans had a chance to grab a cold can of their favorite Monster Energy flavors, including our DUB Edition Punch Monsters: Mad Dog and Baller’s Blend. To promote the release of the hilarious film Ride Along on digital and Blu-Ray, starring two past DUB cover celebs Ice Cube and Kevin Hart, the Ride Along spokesmodels had free giveaways, while the Phillies Krome Cigarillos booth caught eyes with their gorgeous models and samples. Guests lined-up at the Metro PCS booth to meet UFC fighter Dominick Cruz, as well as a chance to get autographs and pics with Baby Bash. This show gave us the opportunity to introduce our new products in the DUB Garage display which included the DUB Developed by Meguiar’s car care line where car enthusiasts were able to see the product in use on the display vehicles. The new styles from TIS Wheels and Dropstars were also showcased on custom DUB Edition Toyota Tundras, Corollas and Avalons! But like all our DUB Shows, the stars were the custom cars on display! All the candy-coated

Our LFTDxLVLD custom truck and Jeep section featured a handful of awesome rigs, including a pair of ARE’s custom Toyota Tundras, ReadyLIFTS’ GMC 1500, a new 2014 GMC Denali by RBP, Dropstars Wheels Toyota Tundra, a Kelderman Dodge Ram 3500 Dually and some serious offroad Jeeps from Genright Off Road, Rebel Off Road, King Shocks and Ballistic/Rampage. We can’t wait for the second issue of DUB Magazine’s LFTDxLVLD to drop later this year! All of So Cal’s biggest car clubs were in attendance, competing for the day’s top awards, but at the end Nokturnal reigned supreme, with members taking home “Best of Show” 1st – 3rd place, in addition to others like “Best Vehicle on Nitto Tires,” “Best Club” and more. The “Best Lowrider” went to Albert DeAlba for “El Rey” from Elite Car Club, while Topo and the TS Designs crew took home “Best Retail Shop Booth” and “Best Retail Shop Car” with his own personal ride - a red widebody 2014 Chevy Corvette! While the cars might be the day’s highlight, it’s our concert that really heats things up! This year’s stellar line-up included many DUB cover celebs as they provided the day’s soundtrack. Baby Bash provided some of his smoothest jams, while Nipsey Hussle blessed fans with his No. 1 hits before hip-hop favorite T-Pain took over the stage. As always, his auto-tune classics rocked the crowd. Problem more than pleased with his set, which included the crowd favorite “Like Waat,” but things really heated up when Game took the stage, representing for the West Coast. The crowd went wild, screaming and chanting his name as he belted out hit after hit like “Higher,” “One Blood,” “Dreams” and more. To close out the show, none other than the cover feature himself, Ricky Ross, came out with some of signature favorites and new joints from his latest album, Mastermind, including his smash hit “The Devil Is A Lie.” And the LA DUB Show wouldn’t be complete without its fair share of celebrity appearances!
