nyone else bored at home already with the stay-in-place orders happening all across the world? COVID-19 really did a number on 2020, but we’re all good since we’ve been busy trying to find some of the freshest builds around to keep you inspired and entertained. Now may be the perfect time to finally start (or finish) that build that’s just been sitting patiently on your To Do list. Even if it’s just some simple mods, there’s no better time to start and hopefully these pages will help with the creative process. The Jeep Gladiator has won the hearts of customizers and had them talking way before it was even released, so now that it’s available, everyone is putting their own spin on them, including Marco Albanese. Like the real Hulk comic book character it’s named after, this Jeep is a machine that embodies brute strength and monstrous stature.

What do you get when you want a workhorse and show ride? You get Pipe Dreams by Brady Taylor, which is essentially a re-mastered 2019 Ram Laramie Longhorn with a welding rig in the truck bed. Brady gets to show off his custom ride at each of his worksites, while flossing at shows on the weekends. When you’re a custom shop, you’re expected to build rides that are anything but normal, which is what prompted Houston Haskins of Superior Off-Road in Oregon to create his Magnetic Machine - a 2019 Ford F-350 Platinum. The end result is a shop vehicle that breaks necks. Michael Simpson’s Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD started off as one thing, but ended up being something entirely different… But that happens with builds and being able to adapt quickly, his giant build was able to be showcased at SEMA just in the knick of time!

Pleasant Cook proves she can hang with the boys in the industry and her latest build is just like Kandy! The custom truck maven knew she had to up the ante from her last build (Karma) and succeed in her mission with her latest Ford F-250 Platinum. James Erickson’s Ford F-250 Platinum is a truck for the gods, naming it Apollo after the Greek god of the sun. It definitely stands high above and is a crowd pleaser wherever it goes. And since we are all finding ourselves spending even more time on the Internet, we’re bringing the DUB Show to you with our new Worldwide Virtual Car Show! ames Erickson knew going into his build that he wanted something big, flashy and loud, but it also had to be functional, with the capability and comfort to be driven daily. According to him, it needed to be the “ultimate cowboy Cadillac.” Because of its flashy exterior that shines bright like the sun, James decided to christen the Super Duty “Apollo” after the Greek god of the sun, archery, music, dance, truth and prophecy. With a solid name and vision going into the build, James needed to first figure out the accent color. Originally, he was going to go with a Smurf blue, but changed his mind because it wasn’t bold enough for his standards. “Some of the blues are really hard to see in photos or at night, so after many days of staring at the Prismatic Powders website and looking at other show cars, I chose to go with aqua teal,” he admits. “I feel it accented the build exactly how I wanted it.”

James went into the rest of a build with an open mind and looked to Truck Guru Chris Payne for guidance. Bigger is bolder and he knew he wanted 30x16 wheels and 44” tires combined with a 24” lift. Aside from those requirements, he was pretty open to mod suggestions for his F-250 Platinum Super Duty and Chris aided James in selecting additional products to finish up the build. 31

After all was said and done, James was in love and amazed at how it all turned out with his favorite being the suspension that was fabricated by BK Fab (Busted Knuckles Fabrication) in Homosassa, Florida. “Eddie Hendrickson, owner of BK Fab, and I bounced so many ideas and shared so many photos back and forth while he was designing the suspension. When we initially started discussing the build, I told him I wanted a higher than usual lift that didn’t look like any other,” he describes. “From the one-of-a-kind suspension with the triangulated rear, the badass cradle, all the polished overlays to the triple bypass shocks on bags, they definitely delivered.” According to James, the truck rides better than stock thanks to the BK Fab suspension.

Thanks to his “bolder is better” mission statement, James’ truck is definitely a crowd pleaser. Whether it’s on the trailer heading to a show or going down the road for a ride, people always tend to have their phones out to snap pictures of the mighty Apollo, James mentions. “If I stop anywhere, I need to have at least 30 minutes to speak with everyone in the parking lot about it. But it’s so awesome seeing everyone go nuts for the truck.” There’s no doubt that James built something to get a rise out of people and he loves the feeling of having so many admire his creation.

JUST LIKE KANDY 2017 FORD F-250 PLATINUM

leasant Cook is the ultimate combination of femininity and ruggedness, with her customs reflecting her admired duality. Known in the scene as “4x4 Barbie,” she’s amassed quite a following because of her appealing all-American looks and grandiose builds. The off-road maven was born and raised in Missouri, with all-things automotive introduced to her by her dad when she was still a little girl. We first met Pleasant back in Issue 18, when she showed off her Ford F-250 that embodied her personality, adorable girly touches and her penchant for picking badass mods. We learned of her UTV racing career and how the platinum Edition Ford was the perfect rig for hauling her UTVs.

Now the down-to-earth, girl-next-door has another Ford she’s proud to parade around - a 2017 F-250 Platinum she calls “Kandy.” Pleasant still has her previous Ford F-250 called “Karma”, but has given her newest baby her undivided attention. For the original build plan of Kandy, she wanted a show queen that was still driveable. But after a few mods that clearly were too flashy for the road, Kandy evolved into something to be adored and hauled. “I knew that it could be driveable, but legal? Probably not and that’s another story. I have my Duramax for a daily driver, so this Ford build turned into a strictly show rig.”

The Ford was chosen because of her desire to have something with a front solid axle instead of CV axles and the Ford went with her family’s tradition of choosing the Blue Oval over other brands. One look at the truck and you would think she planned it right from the start. But at the beginning, she confesses that she was going to go with a more Lowrider/rat rod-style, but in lifted form. “It was going to be black and pink, with pinstripes.” But the design options weren’t what she initially expected and decided on something that’s still recognizable, but different at the same time.

“I was inspired to do camo (printed and installed by Vivid Wraps) because of my leggings (typical girl answer, I know). My Duramax, in its prime, was actually digital camo. The pink is Kandy Pink, so it definitely just fit in with the whole theme.” The custom lift built by McIntosh Motorsports makes it tower over Pleasant as she has to climb in to get behind the driver’s seat. It needed to have a dominating stance to accommodate Interco Tires’ new big Bogger tire, which debuted at the 2018 SEMA Show. Kandy was one of a handful of other rigs that featured the new rubber at the annual event, which gave Pleasant extra incentive to really impress with her build. Inside the new tires are RBP wheels that add sparkle to her rig, while their custom “Kandy” grille gives it personality.

But her favorite touch is the widened axle, which she considers unique. “It really gives the Ford a great stance and works with all the other mods.” Another favorite touch is the relocated fuel tank in the bed, which gives the bottom of the truck a sleeker appearance that made people stop and think how the truck was still able to be driven. “With the tank in the bed, we took out the regular filler nozzle and put in a Kicker control in the gas tank that controls the outdoor speakers inside the swing cases (the stock head unit inside the cabin controls the regular audio system for the interior).

Because of her knowledge and experience (it was her sixth year at SEMA) in the industry, people know that Pleasant is a force to be reckoned with and her latest build didn’t disappoint when it was unveiled inside RBP’s booth. “The build could not have come out any more perfect in my opinion. From the wrap to the suspension, every detail was thought out.” According to her, it was a tough couple of months leading up to the show, trying to

finish everything and get it right, but everyone involved was able to get it together to make sure it was done just in the nick of time. Now, the Ford will be used for marketing purposes for her many sponsors at different events across the nation. It’s also the current focal point of her popular IG account (@4x4_barbie). She’s definitely not slowing down any time soon and we can expect to see more fun builds from her in the future!

2016 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500HD

he thing with builds is that they can change any minute. An idea might spark the builder half way in, creating changes in the end, or a new vision will come to light, which can transform a build 180-degrees. This was true for Michael Simpson and his Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD that was originally lowered to go fast. That was until the opportunity to build a SEMA showcase presented itself. Michael knew he needed something grand that would stand out from the rest at the SEMA Show because the request was to feature something big and impressive. The die hard GM fan purchased an all-black Silverado and thought it was a good platform to start with for what he had in mind. Dreamworks Motorsports helped the design come to life, which includes a candy tangerine suspension and accessories and the custom wrap. “I combined all my ideas to come up with the baddest designed wraps and schemes I’ve ever seen,” he admits. For aftermarket parts, Michael went with companies that he knew had made quality products. What started out as a handful of partners, ended up being 30 companies wanting to contribute what would become Coaltrain. While the wrap is the real focal point of the truck, Michael admits that it’s the audio that gets the crowds at shows due to its “insanely loud” capability.

As his first lifted truck build ever, the result was definitely a SEMA-worthy model. “People love the truck, especially kids,” he admits. “Some ask why I went with a lifted truck, but I’ve had no negative feedback on it. People are amazed at the quality and that it was built in less than a month to be ready for the big show.”

Despite looking like a verified show queen, Michael still makes sure that his rig gets some driving love and takes it out often. “It was in [country singer] Brantley Gilbert’s music video just recently, too,” he gushes. Coming from the Lowrider scene, he understands the gratification that comes from eliciting adoring stares on the road. He also understands how intricate details really make a statement and borrowed that philosophy from his Lowriding days. Since Coaltrain’s debut at SEMA, it’s taken home a few Best of Show awards, was a Top 100 rig at Lonestar Throwdown and was Best of Show at last year’s NOPI Nationals in Myrtle Beach.

rucks don’t have to be show queens to demand attention. They can be rugged and built for the toughest trails or even a workhorse that’s purpose-built. In fact, Brady Taylor sought out to prove that work trucks have a place in the show world with his “PipeDreams” rig. A welder by trade, Brady went with a Ram Laramie Longhorn because of its beautiful redesign and interior colors. “The color scheme was chosen based on my work life, industry and trade,” he admits. “I chose a raw metal, industrial look that was still sleek and would turn heads. I wanted metal and earth tones incorporated into the build to achieve the overall desired theme.”

THE COLOR SCHEME WAS CHOSEN BASED ON MY WORK LIFE, INDUSTRY AND TRADE. I CHOSE A RAW METAL, INDUSTRIAL LOOK THAT WAS STILL SLEEK AND WOULD TURN HEADS.”

Brady made sure to go into this build with enough time and resources to get the perfect result. Because he was so meticulous, the initial design and rendering didn’t stray too far from the overall finished look. “In the end we did choose a darker bronze accent color to really offset the steel grey,” he admits. When it came time to choose which companies to work with, he went with those that had a stellar reputation in his line of work (pipeline and rig welding). “I wanted the everyday worker to see what can be put together, look good and still be able to perform.” The biggest highlight of the build is the bespoke Stryker Mfg welding bed that was handmade and formed from sheet metal. According to Brady, all the body lines on the bed seemed like forever to perfect. Besides the welding bed, the Stealth Graphics and Rogue Vinyl wrap is his second most admired modification. To have a perfect look, the team spent countless hours on the wrap installation to make sure that every seam and nook was covered in the vinyl.

Because no true SEMA build is complete with a few bumps in the road, Bradyâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s biggest challenge was the new truck style of the Ram. He had to work very close with companies to make sure everything fit the redesign of the new Ram. Being in Canada, having mods shipped from the States was also a headache given more times than appreciated, packages were held up at the border for inspection. That only delayed build times, causing lots of late night work sessions to get it all done on time.

“I had no idea how the public would react when we first debuted the truck and initially thought that they’d chalk it up as just another work truck with some fancy colors,” he confesses. But little did Brady know that the truck would be the talk of the show, with spectators admiring and complimenting him on the attention to detail and overall finish of the Ram. “I am proud to

be able to put the industry and tradespeople on the map on a global scale and show that the everyday blue collar worker can achieve something like this build.” The build is now being put to work as it was meant to be. Brady mentions that it has already seen the jobsite numerous times, but

on weekends it hits up various trade and truck shows in Canada and the U.S. “This build, I think, measures up in terms of the quality of our last build as every bolt and wire were thought about. I believe we surpassed previous builds as there was a substantial amount of custom one-off work into the new build.”

hen you’re a custom shop, you’re expected to build rigs that are on a different level. There’s no room for mediocre builds for shop owners, who are expected to create rolling masterpieces that catch the eye, which undoubtedly requires pressure to raise the bar. Houston Haskins of Superior Off-Road in Oregon knows this to be true when it comes to his shop’s rigs. When he first started the business, he automatically knew trucks were going to be his specialty. Over the years, they’ve built more than 15 trucks that have been featured at the SEMA Show. But after creating gems for others, it was time to fabricate his own.

“As I have been in business since 2004 and building cars and trucks are my passion and life along with two kids and a loving wife, I hadn’t had time to build the truck that I had always wanted and was willing to do until now.” He contacted Chris Payne (aka Truck Guru) and began the rendering process, choosing colors and the design to also match his other vehicles and boat. Then, it was time to actually buy the 2019 Ford F-350 Platinum (in the brand’s Magnetic color) that would be the base of his majestic truck. “I can build a unique Ford rig up to my high standards and put my personal signature look to it.”

Houston knew what worked and what didn’t, selecting the exact mods and fabrication to do to make a statement became easy. “I have worked with most of the companies whose products were used on my truck. I wanted highend but also products that I would be able to educate my customers to show them what can be done and used on their vehicles.” Houston went with Rogue Forged because of their “game changing designs,” and paired the wheels with Nitto’s (then) new 42” tall tires. The 12” Precision Metal Fab suspension lift makes the Ford a towering presence and the Hammerhead front and rear bumpers give the truck a rugged look. For some added power in the performance department, he added a Banks Derringer tuner and Monster exhaust.

Towing and recovery accessories include a Geny-Y hitch and supports, BOLT Locks and Royal Hooks D-Rings. When it came down to lighting, he wanted the look to really shine and went with Rigid Industries Dually front and rear lights, a 20” Rigid dual row LED light bar, RIGID underglow, custom headlights by Onpoint Retrofits and custom-painted tail lights by his shop. Other accessories include: ARE Z series canopy, Hornblasters Goliath horn setup, Royalty Core grille, Bedrug, Husky Liners and a custom wrap. The end result is something that not only Houston loves, but random strangers also show love for the truck as they come up to him at shows or when driving around in admiration of his custom work. “People love it and I’m constantly getting compliments.”

2020 JEEP GLADIATOR

hen Jeep enthusiasts heard that they were bringing back their Gladiator model, hardcore fans like Marco Albanese were already dreaming of what they would do with the new model. “I wanted a Jeep truck for as long as I can remember,” he admits. “So once the announcement was out and that it would feature heavier-duty axles (which would handle the caliber of our builds), it was an easy choice to start thinking about how it would be a dream platform for a future build.” For Marco, his builds are primarily daily drivers, yet are still lookers with an aggressive twist that can handle any terrain. Before he could do anything to his new Gladiator, he needed to come up with a theme and chose to call it Hulk, given the early comics featured the superhero with spikes and that went with his SpikedJeep theme of past builds. Originally, the green was supposed to be a darker, military hue, but that quickly changed once Marco noticed similar colors on other builds. Striving to be different, he sat down with Rhino Linings of Las Vegas, NV, to come up with a unique green; a mix of the comic character’s green and Jeep’s mojito green offering.

Having relationships with companies is key to Marco’s builds as he was able to secure parts before they were largely available to the public, which helped him make Hulk into a larger-thanlife build in a short amount of time. “Detail is key, and we plan out every detail before moving forward,” he describes. “But relationships are always very important to us, so it was natural to select parts from our favorite companies and then add parts from others we were huge fans of.” While the Rhino Linings custom-colored exterior is what draws the eyes in, Marco made sure to choose parts that accentuate the prowess of the Gladiator. For him, highlights included: Hard Rock Offroad 24x14 H502 Painkiller wheels wrapped in Rolling Big Power tires, BDS 6.5”long-arm suspension lift with front/rear track bars, ZROADZ LED grille lights, Trex Grille, XKGlow headlights, Roadwire leather interior and the a Gibson exhaust that Marco says gives Hulk an aggressive-sounding exhaust growl. To help with the build and make sure everything was on task, he partnered with SR Designs. “Our goal was to have everything just really flow right with the build - from the green to the black accents, matching bumpers, fenders and even the bed, tire carrier and spikes. No detail was spared.” While he absolutely loved the end result, anyone who sees Hulk in person is excited and snaps pics as well. “The Hulk gets more stares than a Lamborghini or Ferrari,” he admits. “I’m truly honored to have worked with such great companies throughout the process. It’s my favorite personal build to date that we’ve done at DH Customz.” 66

Trevor Motorcycles is a new bike company, which was founded by motoring enthusiast Jeroen-Vincent and artist Philippe Stella. The company is about to launch their first bike called the FTR Stella, which is an electric flat track-style bike. Although theyâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;re a new company, theyâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;ve created the bike with an impressive spec sheet, with a list of suppliers, ranging from Ohlins to Dunlop. Powering the bike is a 2.6 kWh lithium-ion battery pack by Sarolea Performance, which drives an 11kW brushless DC motor. The molybdenum trellis frame is from Workhorse Speedshop, which carries an Ohlins fork and rear monoshock. According to Trevor, the bike can go a top speed of 50 mph and gets three hours of driving time, making it perfect for either the trails or the streets. Pricing TBD
