PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Spring has sprung!
Just like that, Winter is gone and we are excited for Spring weather and events. We are busy getting ready for a visit from the Easter Bunny at our Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 8 from 11:00am–1:00pm.
We welcome you to join us on Saturday mornings in the Spring for Family Play Gym from 9–11am! There are lots of toys, slides, and sports equipment to play with and a separate area for infants and is $3/child.
The Dunbar Community Centre Association’s Annual General Meeting is on April 26 at 6pm. Further information about this will be posted to our social media handles and website.
Summer Day Camps for children 6-12 years old are happening from July 4–August 25. Details of our weekly themes and activities are included in this issue. These camps offer reasonable rates and diverse activities that appeal to all ages and interests with plenty of outdoor and indoor fun. Make sure to register early as camps usually fill up fast!
The Kerrisdale Oakridge Marpole Community Policing Centre will be hosting a Senior’s Safety Workshop this Spring at Dunbar. Please come and learn more ways to protect yourself and your loved ones. Registration is required.
A special thank you to all the youth volunteers who helped with our programs and special events. We have many returning and new programs this upcoming season such as Teen Tutoring, Youth Dance Drop-In, and RainCity Basketball Club: Skills Sessions. Stay tuned for updates on Youth Week happening in the first week of May!

Refunds, Cancellations & Program Changes
All programs (description, dates/times, prices) subject to change without notice.
At Dunbar we aim to run all scheduled programs, but sometimes we need to change or cancel on short notice. If this happens, we do our best to notify all attendees, and we will provide refunds for the cancelled classes. When possible, we will also run make-up classes at the end of a session. Plase register early to avoid cancellations or changes due to insufficient registration.
If you must withdraw for medical reasons after the normal refund deadline has passed, a doctor’s note and a programmer’s permission are required for a pro-rated refund. The refund will be granted only from the date when the programmer has the doctor's note in hand.

Sportball offers high-energy, actionpacked birthday parties for kids ranging in age from 2 - 5 years! Kids enjoy a variety of sports and supervised games in a fun, structured and safe environment; festivities finish off with a traditional birthday celebration. The kids will need to catch their breath before they blow out their candles! Parties include 60 minutes of activities followed by 60 minutes of birthday celebrations with the coach. Parent/Guardian participation is required for the duration of the party for ages 2-3 yrs.
Inclusions: Sportball leader, activity room, party room, tables, chairs. Max. 15 kids with 1 coach. Exclusions: decorations, table settings (plates, cutlery, cups, etc), snacks, food or beverages. The Sportball office will contact you upon booking your party to confirm the details such as party room set-up, sport activities, age and number of children attending.

Baby Orff Music (12-18 months)
This is baby's first music class! Enjoy an opportunity for you and your baby to sing, play instruments and dance to the tunes. Lots of knee bouncing, hand-clapping fun. With guitar and many puppets and dancing scarves Tonia will keep the little ones singing and dancing. At the end of the term parents are given a handout of songs to take home. Come join the fun!

Orff Music (4-5 years)
Orff music is a vibrant, fun way for kids to learn music essentials. It provides a great basic music education for all ages. Named after the founder, Carl Orff a German composer and educator. Orff is a worldwide teaching method popular since the 1920?s. Dunbar community centre has had an ongoing Orff program for many years. Instructor Tonia Allen works at several preschools and community centres as well as running the program at the Vancouver Academy of Music in the past. Classes include singing, playing barred instruments like xylophones, various percussion instruments and learning to read and compose music. Parents can attend the first class to experience what the classes are like.

Supported camps provide children with different needs the opportunity to participate in a typical community camp with children their own age. Camp staff modify activties and encourage children to participate to the best of their ability. The focus of this camp is to help children have fun with their peers. Two additional day camp leaders are available to float between approximately 5 campers who are registered in a supported space. Please note we do not provide one to one support or personal care. Room Rentals at DCC
Book the Dunbar Community Centre for birthday parties, meetings, lectures, sporting events, wedding receptions, banquets or special events. We are a 46,000ft² facility and one of the largest centres in Vancouver.
Please e-mail dunbarccrentals@vancouver.ca or call 604.222.6060 ext 1 to speak to one of our staff for enquiries or to make a booking. You can also view our rooms availability and reserve online (all submissions online do not guarantee use of the facility and formal approval must be provided by staff prior to use) at recreation.vancouver.ca.
• A damage deposit of twice the hourly rate of the room may be required when booking depending on the nature and size of the event.
• This is held as a security deposit and will be refunded within 15 days of the rental, less any claims for damage or extra time.
• Staff supervision fee of $35/hour (minimum 4 hours) are charged on rentals taking place after closing time and must include set-up and take down time.
• The DCC Association is required by law to collect SOCAN (Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada) fees for all rental groups that play or perform copyrighted music. Groups will be charged the current SOCAN rate.
• Table and chairs are included in the rental fee where required.
• Non-profit or charitable organizations (with proof of status) receive 50% off room rental fees.
