This workshop has environmental themes—reuse, reclaim, & recycle. Local artist Hollis Nelson shares their love of up-cycling in this fabric painting and sewing workshop. Students will learn the joy of altering pre-loved clothing to create something new as well as the joy of creating a wearable art piece! Using paint, scissors, needle and thread as tools we will be either painting a patch to sew on a piece of clothing, painting directly on clothing, or using both techniques! The instructor will guide students through sewing a patch and then painting the patch with a pattern of their own creation by teaching formal elements of pattern-making such as symmetry, colour, texture, tone, form, shape and line. The instructor will provide pre-loved clothing for students to use and take with, or if students have a piece of clothing in mind that they would like to up cycle of their own, they are welcome to bring it through! In this workshop we align with the grassroots movement to repurpose & thrift clothing to extend its life cycle.
