Welcome to the late spring and early summer edition of Waterside. It seems as the weather is now improving and it is good to see more people out and about enjoying the weather and the waterside locations, attractions and entertainments that this area is proud of.
Win a two night stay with dinner in The Mercure Southampton Centre Dolphin Hotel, see page 31
Included within the magazine are lists of what is on and places to visit around the area. New movies are always of interest and Waterside has featured information regarding two of the movies that are being shown within our area. The several Marinas that are in our area not only provide a safe birth for the boats both big and small but are also a great place to visit. Port Solent, for example, has many excellent restaurants where you can dine indoors and, weather permitting, al fresco. The many shops also give diversity not found on the high street. Well worth a visit during the day and for a great evening out. The D Day Museum in Portsmouth has been the in focus with the 75th Anniversary Remembrance Services. The museum tells the story of courage, comradeship, sacrifice and secrecy. Many of the original exhibits are still presented within the museum, with two spectacular audio-visual displays that capture the scale of D Day itself. This is certainly worth a visit and is worthy of a visit by the whole family. Waterside continues to include articles that should be of interest

to a wide range of readers with the aim of being informative and entertaining. As the weather starts to improve thoughts also turn to fashion and the new look for summer 2019. Featured are just some of the fashion ideas that are coming to the high street. We continue to give just a few tips that may guide you in the garden, as this is now the time of year that serious planning and planting of your garden happens. Hard work but worth it when you sit in the garden enjoying the displays that nature gives us. For those who may enjoy a drink in the evening, Waterside has included a feature about Portsmouth Distillery Gin. The feature is interesting and informative. We hope you enjoy the magazine and visit us again in the future.

ROYAL SPIRIT The Portsmouth Distillery Co., which finds its home in the fabulous Fort Cumberland. Perhaps the most impressive piece of 18th-century military architecture in England, on Eastney point, the southeastern point of Portsea Island. It was founded last year by Vince Noyce, Giles Collighan and Dich Oatley. Not only have they brought gin production back to Portsmouth, they have at the same time established the first ever rum distillery in the city. It was their love of, and passion for rum that prompted former Royal Navy officers Vince and Giles to create the Rum Club Ltd (an online rum subscription club), the next logical step was to produce their own. The Portsmouth Distillery are fully committed to the production of fine handcrafted artisan spirits. Fort Gin was a labour of love, inspired by

The 1968 Rum is exquisite, and made using imported dehydrated Sugar Cane juice from Costa Rica, which is lovingly made into a syrup, fermented and distilled on site to produce a flavour explosion; smooth, sweet overripe bananas, with just a touch of floral notes. Making it a very versatile and useful rum, great in ‘naked’ cocktails, such as T-Punch and Mojito.
