America. The Land of the Free, land of hope and opportunity, where people go to dream big, live big and uphold the values of the constitution. But when questionable decisions are made and those dreams and ideals tip into self-indulgence, greed and homophobia it’s time for Dr. Gilbert to step in.

Less Like Here... Several young people who are desperate for another option, a way past the expectations put upon them and to be given the opportunity to make a decision for themselves. We meet them just at the point where they grasp their future in their hands; some make a move; some find comfort in the familiar and others are left wondering what could have been. A piece about discovering the possibilities while still appreciating what you started with.

Workshops: Saturday 25th March 1-3pm & 4-6pm Write Here, Write Now! Lewis Hetherington

Creating a Story Scott Gilmour

A hands on and playful introduction to playwriting. Through a series of exercises we’ll look at ways to build character and story in a colourful and engaging way. We’ll write, talk and play games which unlock some of the ways that you can turn ideas in to scenes, and scenes into plays. Open to everyone and anyone who is interested in how plays work!

Storytelling. Sounds simple enough. It’s a skill we use every day. But how exactly do we tell stories. How do we listen? What makes a good story and how do you take something that’s in your head and make it into something everyone wants to hear?

Lewis Hetherington is an award winning playwright and performance maker whose work is rooted in storytelling and collaboration. He is passionate about the possibility of art creating space for positive social change, and he has worked in a wide variety of places and contexts, from castles, to climbing arenas to community centres. As associate of Analogue he co-wrote Mile End and Beachy Head, and wrote 2401 Objects. Most recently he co-wrote and co -directed Stowaway. With the company he has won two Fringe Firsts and the Arches Brick Award.

In this session we’ll explore the art of creating, developing and finally telling a story; looking at how that can affect and influence our lives as actors, writers, creatives and, most important of all, people. This workshop will be practical and participants should arrive in comfortable clothing and be prepared to move (and act just a bit silly). Scott trained at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and now works as an actor, writer and director across the UK and internationally.

All workshops are open to participants aged 11 to 19yrs and are free to attend but are of limited capacity and spaces are allocated on a first come first served basis. Each of the workshops run twice, from 1-3pm and again from 4-6pm Please phone Creative Learning on 01382 342660 or email krobertson@dundeereptheatre.co.uk to book a space!

Please wear loose comfortable clothing and bring a bottle of water when attending all workshops.

Workshops: Sunday 26th March 1-3pm & 4-6pm How to Devise from a Sensory Starting Point Sharron Devine

Physical Theatre Stephanie Arsoska

Learn and develop your Devising skills to make theatre using your senses as a starting point.

In this workshop you will be introduced to Self-With-Others, an approach to building ensemble through physical theatre improvisation. Working with the body we will explore what it means to be present as a performer in pairs, small groups and as an ensemble as we give ourselves permission to play.

Some things cannot be expressed with words. The atmosphere for a new piece of theatre is often where I begin when making work - before a word has even entered my thoughts I’m thinking about the atmosphere I’d like to create and how I want my audience to feel. During this workshop we will explore how we can use imagery, objects, music and atmosphere to begin generating potential material for creating new work. You will leave the workshop with a bank of skills to use when approaching making your own work. Be brave, be bold and come and join this fun and practical workshop Sharron is originally from Dundee where her passion for Theatre began at Dundee Rep Youth Theatre.. She went on to train as an Actor in London at East 15 Acting School and has been performing and making theatre for almost 20 years in the UK, Europe and recently New York City.

Stephanie Arsoska trained as an actor with the Cygnet Theatre Company before completing her degree in Drama, Applied Theatre and Education at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. She then worked as an actor and drama educator throughout London and completed a postgraduate certificate in Physical Theatre with the Jasmin Vardimon Company. She trained in the Self-WithOthers approach to building ensemble with the Duende Ensemble and is currently completing a MEd in Teaching and Learning in the Performing Arts at the RCS in Glasgow.
