About Dundee Rep

Welcome to our

Spring Season "After a season of co-productions we are looking forward to having Dundee Rep Ensemble back with us full time. This Spring we are presenting a host of exciting and creative work. Steel Magnolias opens our spring season. We expect this to be a really popular show which features brilliant characters and is full of delightfully humorous moments but at its heart tells a beautiful and moving story of friendship and family. After the success of last year’s collaboration, we will once again be teaming up with Òran Mór to commission two new plays. Remember you also get a ‘peh’ and a drink included in the price of your ticket! For an Easter outing with the family we are hosting a two-week festival featuring the best in children’s theatre for a variety of ages including performances from leading Scottish children's theatre companies. The second week will feature Scottish Dance Theatre’s world premiere of their new children’s work. This is closely followed by Further than the Furthest Thing, a fantastic play by Scottish writer, Zinnie Harris. Set on a remote island in the middle of the Atlantic, it tells the

story of a small community isolated from the world beyond the ocean which when it was first produced won a clutch of awards. I've wanted to direct it for some time and so I'm very excited about finally getting to do so. Completing the season is The Tempest by William Shakespeare, a charged and vivid tale of shipwrecks, dark forces, magic and of love lost and found. The Tempest is Shakespeare's final great masterpiece, so I hope you get the chance to see this brilliant classic performed by the Ensemble. Scottish Dance theatre will be opening it’s Spring tour with a new group work, Pavlova’s Dogs and a new solo My Sweet Little Fur and later in the year as part of our Children’s Festival SDT bring us a dance piece created specially for children, What on Earth!? With a great line up of comedy, live music, dance and drama from visiting companies, our season is guaranteed to keep you entertained all the way through to summer."

Scottish ThTHEATRE eatre presents SCOTTISHDance DANCE

“Dundee's finest export must now be the creative engine of Scottish Dance Theatre” ballet.co.uk

Wed 8 – Sat 11 February at 8pm Scottish Dance Theatre (SDT), Scotland’s national contemporary dance company, premieres a new season of work at its home venue Dundee Rep Theatre. SDT invites you to experience an evening of stunning works. The programme includes the new group work Pavlova’s Dogs, specially created for SDT by Rachel Lopez de la Nieta (Dog Kennel Hill Project). An experiment in watching dance, Pavlova's Dogs is inspired by Pavlov's theory and the choreographer's interest in the humour to be found in the absurdity of human behaviour. This work contains spoken word. My Sweet Little Fur by Israeli choreographer, Idan Cohen, is a solo that presents a dialogue between a man and the hounds residing in him. An intelligent piece arousing questions about our cultural and animalistic behaviours.

Drift by James Wilton is an "impressively powerful" (ballet.co.uk) duet exploring loneliness and closeness, absolute commitment and high risk trust. A brooding and explosive work that delights audiences with its highly charged physicality, and the daring surprises the dancers throw at each other. Love Games by Joan Clevillé and All in The Grip by Natalie Trewinnard are two works created by SDT dancers as part of Under Construction 2011. Playful and powerful in different ways, these works highlight the choreographic talent coming from within the company.

Thu 9 February 7pm Free pre show talk. Come along and find out a little bit more about the show. Please book.

Tickets £16 full/£13 concession/£12 friends/£9 students/Children £6/Student Pass £5. See page 19 for information about SDT’s new childrens work What on Earth!? See page 21 for SDT's special events.

Fri 27th and Sat 28th of Jan at 7.30pm If your life doesn't stimulate you, you'll look elsewhere. How else can you discover your limits? How else can you find out who you are? Exploring these questions through dance, text and narrative, RISK asks why young people are drawn to danger; why they risk their freedom, their bodies, their minds and their futures. It takes a look at why young people disregard safety, seek out ways to feel alive, put their lives on the line and take a risk Tickets: Full Price £5, Concs £4 *Performed by the 16 – 18s group

Hairy MacLary

“…when, after 55 minutes, the show came to an end, one little girl behind me just burst into tears, wailing that she didn’t want it to end at all.” The Scotsman

COMING SOON A celebration of Dundee

Fri 29 & Sat 30 June Fri at 4pm & Sat at 10.30pm, 1pm & 4pm Anyone with young children will recognise these immortal words instantly as the opening lines of the book Hairy MacLary from Donaldson’s Dairy by Lynley Dodd. Following a sellout run at the Edinburgh Fringe 2010, a UK Tour in 2011 and the Christmas season at the Sydney Opera House, Hairy MacLary and his friends are springing off the page once again this summer. Featuring many of the characters from the books like Hercules Morse, as big as a Horse Bottomley Potts, covered in spots – Schnitzel von Krumm, with the very low tum and Scarface Claw – the toughest tomcat in town. With music, singing and several of your favourite Hairy MacLary stories, this show is a must for the whole family. Tickets: Adults £7, Children £4, Concs £6
