FROM OUR PRESIDENT AND CEO
As we close the book on another year, we reflect on the challenges our teams faced and build on lessons learned to take on new ones that emerge. Last year was no exception and brought with it economic uncertainty, ongoing supply chain issues, inflation, higher interest rates, and the continued stress on labor—all of which continue to affect every one of us, our clients, our trade partners, and our employee owners. Each challenge opened the door to more innovation, collaboration, and insights-driven decision making.
Like past challenges faced, it’s our people who make the difference, constantly elevating their game not only in tackling these trials head on, but also in coming out ahead for clients, for partners, for our communities, and for each other. By extending our expertise beyond building to incorporate research, apply lessons learned in new ways, and offer market-specific insights, we were able to further lead clients to limit project impacts due to fluctuating economic conditions. From a tailored approach on every project and ensuring our trade partners had material pricing locked in for their bids, all the way to keeping our employees’ health benefit rates flat and donating record amounts to our communities, our team worked tirelessly to minimize the impacts of the challenges we all faced.
That’s why we’re proud to showcase many projects completed last year as a testament to the work of our extraordinary people and dedication to our valued clients. Our commitment to clients means we always—and will continue to—find ways to serve as a true partner, relying on our expertise to collaborate and guide owners through challenging times while offering certainty of results. As always, thank you for trusting JE Dunn to be your building partner today and in the future.

MISSION CRITICAL
In a time of growing digital reliance for work, play, and everyday needs, the data center and mission critical industries are as important as ever—and the heightened demand shows no signs of slowing down. To keep pace with one of the fastest-growing building types, our data center experts utilize the most advanced technology and historical data to collaborate with all project stakeholders throughout the design and construction process, allowing us to scale up and down to meet the needs of our clients while maintaining transparency and efficiency. JE Dunn’s prefabrication proficiency, inventive solutions, and familiarity working on active sites without interruption mean these crucial projects stay on schedule and on budget.
As the demand for data centers continues to climb, owners and project teams must adapt their plans to meet ever-increasing needs for these facilities. JE Dunn’s mission critical team is improving upon its proven approach as well, applying tried-and-true concepts in new ways to maximize cost and schedule for our projects that totaled more than 308 megawatts and 1.6 million square feet in 2022 alone. Whether it’s expanding prefabrication and utilizing prebuild facilities or taking a different look at labor, our creative solutions mean faster speed to market and certainty of results for our clients across the country. While many of our clients and projects remain confidential and cannot be pictured, the impact on everyday life they make is immeasurable.

INDUSTRIAL AND MANUFACTURING + ADVANCED INDUSTRIES
Supply chain stress, an increased emphasis on domestic production, and the evolution of industrial and manufacturing facilities themselves are fueling a thriving market. The result is the new construction, retrofit, or expansion of industrial and manufacturing facilities across the country—with speed to market and continuous operation critical components at the forefront of the decision-making process.
Utilizing methods such as early contractor involvement allows us to be a true partner, relying on experience, technology, and innovation to collaborate to ensure the best outcomes for each facility. At the Georgia-Pacific Dixie Darlington Facility Expansion, this approach resulted in innovative sequencing and unique solution that avoided a six-month pause in operations during the 300,000-square-foot expansion. Producing some of the smallest, yet highly specialized materials ranging from semiconductors to microelectronics, advanced industries facilities have one of the largest impacts to daily life. That’s why our goal is the same for each of these confidential and critical projects: partner early, leverage relationships, and maximize efficiencies to deliver safer projects while saving time, labor, and costs to meet the increasingly compressed schedules of these impactful facilities across the country.

07 AVIATION
Hit hard in recent years, the aviation industry is once again bustling as passengers return to the sky and traffic moving through airports steadily increases. Throughout the changing conditions across the country, JE Dunn remained ready for the bounce back, diversifying our portfolio and partnering with clients as they navigate the complexities of forecasting future needs.
From the construction of the Atlantic Aviation Scottsdale Airport Hangar featuring two hangar bays and support space for a future buildout to the BNA Delta Sky Club to elevate the passenger experience, the response of clients to adjust to current conditions combined with the steady hand of JE Dunn’s team has allowed owners to focus on improvement that speaks directly to the unique needs of each.

LIFE SCIENCES AND RESEARCH
From laboratories, teaching, and research facilities, all the way to biopharmaceuticals, gene therapy, and animal health, the reach and impact of life sciences are great. In today’s fast-paced world where technology and research are evolving at warp speed, the urgency to bring life sciences facilities online quickly and safely—as well as responsibly—is increasing too. Built sustainably while maximizing project efficiencies, the new and distinctive University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, Anschutz Health Sciences Building is the first LEED Version 4.0 Gold Certified facility on campus and the most energy-efficient mixeduse facility on campus with 60% energy reduction versus existing buildings. With seven stories of one-of-a-kind floors including a full vivarium laboratory to expand research capacity and the addition of a pharmacy and more, the building marries education, community, and collaboration to meet evolving needs today and well into the future.
As the need for these life-saving initiatives evolves, so too do the facilities that enable scientists to continue their groundbreaking work, but one thing stays the same—JE Dunn’s commitment to building these inspired places to teach, discover, and heal.

09 EDUCATION
Inspiring spaces, creative environments, and full of the newest technology, our education work encompasses both public and private institutions and includes renovations and new construction of K-12 all the way to higher education facilities— and everything in between. Our community-changing projects such as the Operation Breakthrough Ignition Lab and Valley City State University Center for the Arts reflect the importance of igniting a creative spark in students of all ages, while the CSU Spur buildings and Raymore-Peculiar School District LEAD Center project speak to the emergence and importance of STEM in today’s education spaces.
While some learning environments rely on the newest technology to create a unique experience, for others, it’s about the space itself and what it allows teachers and students to do in it. Throughout the advancements and changes in classrooms and learning, the thing that has remained constant is the focus on flexible space, collaborative learning, and enhanced technology to equip tomorrow’s leaders to chart their own paths.

RETAIL, MIXED-USE, AND HOSPITALITY
Blending convenience, elegance, and functionality indoors and out, the retail, mixed-use, and hospitality market remains focused on “20 minute neighborhoods,” inviting spaces, and offering everything people need to live, work, and play. Soughtafter neighborhoods, a modern flair, and centered on social living, the desire for vibrant and accessible communities continues to shape the development of mixeduse and hospitality projects such as Hotel Fraye & Fallyn Apartments in Nashville while also attracting visitors with an unforgettable experience like the Quarterdeck restaurant at Sea Pines Resort in Hilton Head Island. Once empty, new and reinvigorated spaces, restaurants, and retail are now full of inviting areas to unwind and feature sleek, contemporary touches to charm a new wave of smart living and shopping.

CULTURAL AND ENTERTAINMENT
The outdoors, places to reflect, and spaces to unwind have always been central to an area’s culture and offer enrichment, entertainment, and enjoyment—especially during times when community means the most. That’s why new construction and renovation of places like the Minnesota Humanities Center to enhance amenities and the Theodore Roosevelt Medora Foundation Point to Point Park that brings outside excitement with a pool, miniature golf, and zip lines are so meaningful. They help connect communities, enrich lives, and build camaraderie in the spaces we build to gather, honor, and inspire.

13 SPORTS AND RECREATION
Packed stands, a focus on crowd experience, and the need for world-class accommodations … the factors propelling the sports world forward are centered on fans and athletes alike. Whether it’s locker rooms and gyms to train and play ball or stadiums for teams and fans to cheer, JE Dunn’s sports and recreational projects build spirit in communities and campuses nationwide. Bigger than the sports themselves, many of the facilities we build and renovate, such as Nashville Sounds First Horizon Park, serve as places to gather as fans, neighbors, and friends for concerts, festivals, and events to further come together as one community.

HISTORIC PRESERVATION
Intricate features, layers of history, and iconic elements. It’s the small details and the skill required to master them that make our preservation work some of the most challenging—and rewarding—projects we perform. From peeling back the layers and preserving the history of capitol buildings, museums, and other antique structures to restoring and modernizing memorials like at the Minnesota State Capitol Complex, our historic restorations not only breathe new life into notable buildings, but they also give something essential back to the community—pride.
We’re grateful to work for clients who chose to invest in the future by preserving the past and proud that our expertise, skill, and technology enable these structural works of art to stand the test of time.

15 GOVERNMENT
Government facilities may vary in size, complexity, and function, but they all have one thing in common—they impact the lives of citizens each and every day. From projects such as the Williams County Emergency Operations Center and the City of Austin Fire Station 51 & EMS Station 40 that keep communities safe to federal facilities such as the USACE MATOC Nellis AFB Hospital Modernization and USACE Sheppard AFB Medical and Dental Clinic Replacement that help heal those who serve, JE Dunn remains committed to ensuring client goals—and community needs—are met. The specialized requirements of government, military, and federal construction require an equally distinctive approach, one our clients have come to expect. Whether implementing VDC technology or leveraging techniques such as modular construction and prefabrication, our transparent process and enhanced client collaboration lead to project success in the government sector no matter the size.

JUSTICE
A focus on function and maximizing budgets are driving the justice market in the construction of courthouses and correctional facilities nationwide. With a focus on reintegration, the construction of these facilities means layouts are configured with programs and opportunities for education, well being, and mental health in mind— to rehabilitate rather than incarcerate. Utilizing precast cell modules, panels, and other structural elements, facilities such as the Greene County Sheriff’s Office & Jail can better meet these changing needs with features such as a multipurpose room, attorney inmate visitation, video courtroom, and library, all while applying tax dollars responsibly. With an increasing emphasis on recovery and reintegration, it’s about a collaborative and efficient approach to build these vital spaces that foster second chances to better communities and the lives of those who live in them.

INNOVATION
Innovation comes in many forms, from employing new and leading-edge technologies to refining tried-and-true methods in different ways. When these stateof-the-art technologies and reimagined approaches are applied to core business practices, the improvements are significant. With an emphasis on more self-perform work to improve the client experience, JE Dunn’s teams are finding new ways to bring value to clients while maximizing technology. We believe that with our experienced, diverse, and talented workforce, self-performing work allows us to ensure a higher level of quality and predictability our clients expect on their projects. Innovating in areas that make our project teams more efficient and precise is not only beneficial to project teams and clients, but it also equips 0our people to change the way we build.
By marrying technology and expertise for certainty of results at a time it matters most and leading the way as a trusted partner, our teams are empowered to innovate. Through continuous improvement in core business practices, collaboration, and creative solutions, we build and innovate with a focus on building better no matter the challenge—always with the client in mind.
JE DUNN CONSTRUCTION YEAR IN REVIEW 2022 17
INNOVATORS AT THE CORE
When we can redefine and disrupt “the way it’s always been done,” that’s when we see impactful changes and tangible results that revolutionize the way we build. Defining a data-enabled workflow that leverages Building Information Modeling (BIM) in conjunction with the state-of-the-art Robotic Total Stations and Trimble software platforms is one area JE Dunn’s self-perform teams are transforming routine building practices into innovative solutions.
From ensuring a building is accurately located on site and coordinating every piece of geometry to the right size and location, all the way to accounting for every embed and their positions, every project starts with building layout. While this is nothing new, getting it right the first time is essential to ensuring a quality product—which is no easy task. When we marry traditional methods of BIM with robotics, it changes the self-perform game. Innovating by creating a digitally enabled workflow that starts with design, leverages BIM, and flows data directly to the robotic total stations in the field, it significantly improves the accuracy of the information our teams use to put work in place every day. BIM provides a level of 3-D visualization and coordination that is unprecedented compared to 2-D methods, allowing us to uncover the smallest of dimensional discrepancies, incorporate construction best practices and means and methods, and identify and resolve even the smallest of issues, all having a significant impact on quality of work put in place.
Innovating at a process level and tying a single data thread from office to the jobsite not only improves how we self-perform and the building layout process itself, but it is also driving up quality, efficiency, and certainty of results across the organization— delivering on our promise of an exceptional client experience and leveraging technology and innovation to do so time and again.
MAKING AN IMPACT
We believe in serving others, which is why giving back to the community has always been—and will continue to be—at the core of JE Dunn’s culture. With a community impact purpose to enrich lives through corporate and employee engagement in the communities where we live, work, and build, changing lives by serving others is at the heart of all we do.
From workforce readiness to affordable housing, JE Dunn Construction and our employees are finding ways to give back and use our talents for a greater good. JE Dunn’s corporate philanthropy impacts the many communities around the nation where we build, empowering our employees to support causes close to them and encouraging others to do the same. Through our combined efforts, we’ve touched more than 1,100 unique organizations across the country in 2022 alone, bolstered by
initiatives such as a new donation platform, 1:1 Employee Match Program, and a Community Ambassador network to bring more people together for a common cause.
This year, our outreach expanded from community and into classrooms with the launch of Building the Future, a K-12 construction education initiative centered on bringing awareness to careers in construction. As our initiatives, reach, and partnerships continually evolve and expand to make an even larger impact, what stays the same is the genuine nature of our people and their commitment to making a difference. We are proud of our people, their desire to give back, and their dedication to doing what they do best—using their talents to do more than build, but to enrich lives through inspired people and places.

BUILDING A DIVERSE FUTURE
JE Dunn is committed to creating opportunities for education and growth for all employees—and that means focusing on and improving upon our diversity and inclusion journey. Making strides in diversity and inclusion takes a concerted effort from top to bottom, and it’s one our leaders and our people are passionately dedicated to, for the betterment of our company and for the construction industry as a whole.
Part of our employees’ journeys includes the establishment of Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) such as BUiLD (Blacks United in Learning & Development) and Moment Connection, our women’s networking group, to bring together people to support each other, teach each other, and inspire each other. We believe that diversity of thought and empowering our people to use their voices to connect us only make us better and our culture stronger. Expanding our ERGs to tap into the passions, interests, and experiences of all employees is central to our success.
In addition to opportunities within our walls, we’re also committed to diversity in our trade partners on projects across the country. With our Minority Contractor Development and Mentor-Protégé programs, we’re not
only educating and equipping companies to work with us, but we are also encouraging them to grow their businesses beyond partnering with JE Dunn. Because when success spreads and communities feel the positive impact, we all win.
Now in its third year, the National Diversity Scholarship program and partnerships with HBCUs are offered to construction and engineering students to mentor a new generation of builders while promoting a diverse and inclusive environment. Awarded to 12 college students from across the country annually, each recipient receives $5,000 over the course of two years and a guaranteed paid summer internship at JE Dunn. Offering support in the classroom and guidance on the jobsite, the National Diversity Scholarship program and partnerships with HBCUs aim to ignite passion for the industry while inspiring a more diverse workforce for the future.
JE Dunn is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion on all our projects— with or without predetermined goals from clients. Our policy is 100 percent inclusion on all projects, all the time, and we’re all in on building better communities as one unified team.

“As both a woman and a person of color, I am considered a minority in construction twice. Sometimes I feel like my work is overlooked. This JE Dunn Scholarship means that I get to dedicate valuable time to my studies and enjoy my remaining two semesters at Boise State University.”
- Emilia
“This scholarship from JE Dunn will be another motivation factor to get to the finish line. It is a joy that a company like JE Dunn is confident in your success and I’m glad they chose me. I’m very excited for this upcoming summer as I get ready to intern with JE Dunn.”
“I am grateful for the opportunity to receive the JE Dunn scholarship and also an internship opportunity next summer. I can’t wait to officially work on a project with JE Dunn.”
