WELCOME LETTER TO THE 2024 NATIONAL BUiLD SUMMIT IN HOUSTON, TEXAS

BUiLD Participants, Board Members, Special Guests, Managers and Leaders:

We are thrilled to welcome you to the 2024 National BUiLD Summit in Houston, Texas!

This year’s theme, "Homecoming: A Return on Investment = Transformation," captures the essence of this special event. As we bring the Summit back to Houston in its fourth year, we are excited to see how our National Summit has grown from a modest gathering of 20 people in 2021, to an impressive assembly of over 165 in-person attendees this week!

For the first time, we are proud to extend our welcome to over 50 managers and leaders who will join us in this transformative journey. Their participation signifies a significant step toward enhancing the understanding and support of BUiLD initiatives within their respective teams and amongst our black employees and allies.

Welcome to what promises to be an unforgettable event, filled with opportunities for learning, development, networking, and what our BUiLD ERG is known for, energy and enthusiasm! This Summit culminates a year of planning and embraces the tradition and true culture of “homecoming” across Historically Black College Universities (HBCU’s) around the country.

We have curated an enriching program that we hope you will thoroughly enjoy.

Thank you for being part of this amazing journey. Welcome to Houston, and welcome to the 2024 National BUiLD Summit! Lynnsee Boyse, Marcus Walker, and Gordon Lansford

OUR STORY

Prior to 2016, internal conversations in relation to how we as a company could provide additional support and networking to our minority employees, in particular, our women began. From those discussions led to the creation of our first Employee Resource Group, Moment Connection. As the unprecedented national events centered around race occurred in 2020, we began to have listening sessions across each of our regions to discuss the impact of those events on our employees. As a result of these listening sessions and in alignment with our Best People, Right Culture Key Strategic Initiative, Blacks United in Learning and Development (originally National Black Employee Resource Group) was created in 2020 in an effort to provide a platform for our black employees and allies to support one another. Our aim as an ERG is to create and curate spaces to have authentic and intentional conversations, experiences, and outreach opportunities. The goal is to provide a better space for us to work and live together, while honoring the diversity of our culture and experiences.
