EN SANO EQUILIBRIO IN HEALTHY BALANCE Una vida plena inicia desde el interior, logrando conectarnos con nuestra luz propia y nuestras necesidades básicas de seres humanos. Sin embargo, respirar con calma, digerir los alimentos sin prisa ni malestares o dormir suficientes horas cada noche, son hábitos que hemos llegado a percibir como lujos únicamente alcanzables para unos cuantos. Y es que la sociedad se mueve en masa hacia constantes deadlines, metas por alcanzar, la solución de prioridades económicas y, con un efecto de bola de nieve, hasta se ha llegado a glorificar la falta de tiempo debido a grandes cantidades de trabajo.

Lo usual es dejarse llevar por esas oleadas de la rutina colectiva, preferir lo rápido ante lo nutritivo, los resultados inmediatos ante los eficientes y aceptar las inevitables consecuencias de un estilo de vida acelerado como son los trastornos de sueño, la deshidratación de la piel, la falta de energía y diversos estragos que el mal manejo del estrés ocasionan en el cuerpo.

En Intervención, Pablo Griss no parece estar interesado en generar una ilusión óptica, sino en explorar otros territorios más densos en su forma y en su contenido. Esta nueva serie de cuadros se presenta como una invitación a viajar hacia otras dimensiones.

Esta exposición gira en torno a la silla como ícono.Tal vez uno de los objetos cotidianos más reverenciados por los diseñadores industriales, la silla ha servido de pretexto para yuxtaponer la visión de mundo de una serie de creadores diversos.

In intervention, Pablo Griss does not seem to be interested in generating an optical illusion but to explore other territories much more dense in form and content. This new series of paintings is presented as an invitation to travel to other dimensions, through these abstract vortexes that beat to the rhythm of the cosmos.

These are works that take you through a vertical hallway to another parallel reality.

This exhibition revolves around the chair as an icon. Perhaps one of the everyday objects more revered by industrial designers, the chair has been used as an excuse to juxtapose the worldview of different creators, ranging from architects and industrial designers to artists.

The Art City Tour is an approach to San José’s cultural offer and emerges to integrate activities that cause public’s curiosity.

La vida cotidiana no nos permite apreciar la diversidad de formas de arte que muchas veces se presentan frente a nosotros, mientras recorremos la ciudad de camino a nuestras responsabilidades.

Daily life does not allow us to appreciate the diversity of art forms that often arise before us, while we go through the city on the way to our everyday duties.

Henry Bastos, el encargado de la organización del Art City Tour, nos transmite la necesidad de apreciación cultural constante y nos recuerda que el centro de San José es más que un lugar de paso.

Con años de exposición al público, el Art City Tour ha logrado cambiar perspectivas y enamorar a las personas que en lo único que podían mantener fija la mirada era en su teléfono celular.

Henry Bastos, responsible for the Art City Tour’s organization, passes on us the necessity of constant cultural appreciation and reminds us that the center of San José is more than just a crossing point. With years of public exposure, Art City Tour has managed to change perspectives and make people, who could not keep their eyes off their cell phones, fall in love with the city.

Bastos es un diseñador gráfico que trabajó en las revistas Red Castle Group y Suma, su trayectoria entre páginas de diseño lo animó a lanzar al mercado la revista Art Media, una publicación centroamericana sobre artes visuales contemporáneas.

Bastos is a graphic designer who worked in the Red Castle Group magazines and Suma, his trajectory encouraged him to launch the Media Art Magazine, a Central American publication on contemporary visual arts.

Logró posicionar la revista en cada país del Istmo y participó en ferias internacionales de arte organizadas en Estambul, Madrid, Bogotá, Buenos Aires, Montreal y Nueva York. A pesar de esos éxitos, la idea de una guía de actividades culturales en San José lo inquietaba, por eso decidió presentar la propuesta a la Municipalidad de San José y al Ministerio de Cultura.

He managed to acquire a good place for the magazine in every country in the isthmus and participated in international art fairs in Istanbul, Madrid, Bogotá, Buenos Aires, Montreal and New York.

Despite these successes, the idea of a cultural guide of activities in San José concerned him, and that’s why he decided to submit the proposal to the San José Municipality and the Ministry of Culture.

El resultado fue la plataforma GAM (Gran Área Metropolitana) una publicación meramente cultural, con promoción en redes y círculos sociales, cuyo objetivo es acercar al público a la oferta cultural diaria.

“Las galerías y espacios partícipes nos ayudan a promover estas actividades logrando una mejor difusión, en conjunto con la rueda de prensa que organizamos para lograr mayor cobertura, los medios toman la información con el detalle de cada una de las actividades y según el balance de contenido, estos la publican.” Nos explica Bastos.

UN FORMATO EXITOSO El Art City Tour tiene modalidades muy urbanas, buseta con más de veinticinco espacios, que busca entrar a los sitios que ofrecen un performance, la bicicleta que promueve el transporte sostenible y la práctica del ejercicio asociado a un paseo y a pie, una opción para redescubrir la oferta arquitectónica emblemática de la ciudad.

Los lugares se eligen con anticipación, acorde a lo que GAM documenta mes a mes, lo que pasa y lo que se ve en más de 150 espacios, entre ellos restaurantes y galerías de arte, es una delicada selección.

The result was the GAM’s (Great Metropolitan Area) platform, a purely cultural publication, with promotion in social network, which objective is to bring people closer to the daily cultural offer.

“The galleries and the participating spaces help us promote these activities achieving a better dissemination, in addition to the press conference that we organize to achieve bigger coverage, media take the information with the detail of each activity and according to the balance of content, they publish it.” Bastos explains.

A SUCCESSFUL FORMAT The Art City Tour has urban modalities, transportation with more than twenty-five spaces, which seeks to enter the sites that offer a performance, the bike that promotes sustainable transportation and the practice of exercise associated with a walk as an option to rediscover the emblematic architectural offer of the city.

Sites are chosen in advance, according to what GAM documents month to month, what happens and what is seeing in more than 150 spaces, including restaurants and art galleries, in a thorough selection.

“Aunque no hay límite alguno en edad, el profesional joven es el tipo de público al que se apunta, sí llega mucho más gente pero nos queremos encausar principalmente en ese 45%, porque son ellos los que tienen la capacidad a corto plazo de lograr un cambio en la sociedad. Con el Tempranillo como la base fundamental de la bodega, el vino surge a partir de una materia prima y un sistema único. Los vinos de Viña Rodero destilan clase, carácter y personalidad, características que se logran obtener gracias a su método patentado y da muy buenos resultados.

Se cuenta con cincuenta hectáreas de viñedo y existe una constante estabilización de su producción neta de uvas, para así contar sólo con las de primera línea.

“El cliente reconoce la calidad y la forma de trabajar que tenemos, es ahí cuando nos muestra esa confianza. Nuestros vinos son naturales, nunca le va a dar dolor de cabeza o dolor de estómago, son vinos que cuidamos desde la producción de la uva, el suelo del viñedo lo cuidamos a través de cultivadores y de recetas, no usamos pesticidas. Estabilizamos la producción de las uvas, pues producimos alrededor de un millón de kilos de uvas pero nos quedamos con la mitad pues se trata de calidad y no de cantidad”, asevera Carmelo Rodero.

La técnica tan peculiar de cultivo de los viñedos Rodero, es lo que diferencia a la marca del resto, pues la recolección y limpieza de las uvas se hace de la manera más delicada posible, excluyendo fuertes químicos.

El proceso se puede describir como la justa combinación de lo tradicional y la modernidad, que da como resultado un vino orgánico de la más alta calidad y que fascina al paladar.

Además de los clientes, los críticos y expertos en vinos también tienen la mejor percepción de Bodegas Rodero, cómo no tenerla si cuentan con más de cincuenta premios y reconocimientos, tanto regionales como a nivel mundial pero quizás uno de sus mejores elogios es ser el vino predilecto de, nada más y nada menos, Juan Carlos I de Borbón, Rey de España.

With the Tempranillo as the fundamental basis of the winery, the wine arises from a unique raw material and a singular system.The wines of Viña Rodero exude class, character and personality, characteristics achieved thanks to its patented method that provides very good results.

They count with fifty hectares of vineyards and a constant stabilization of its net production of grapes, to count only with the very first line.

“The customer recognizes the quality and the way we work, it is there when they shows us their trust. Our wines are natural, they will never give one a headache or a stomach ache, and these are wines that are taken care from the grape’s production, to the vineyard soil through growers and recipes. We do not use pesticides. We stabilize the grapes’ production, we produce around one million kilos of grapes, but we keep half of it because is about quality, not quantity”, says Carmelo Rodero.

The cultivation’s peculiar technique of the Rodero’s vineyards is what makes the brand stand apart from the rest because the grape´s collection and cleaning, is made in the most delicate way possible, excluding the use of strong chemicals.The process can be described as the right combination of tradition and modernity, resulting in an organic wine of the highest quality and that enchants the palate with its flavor.

The ancient practice of yoga came to Costa Rica bringing with it hundreds of gifts: harmony, health, peace and spiritual balance were some of them, but the greatest of all was a new lifestyle.

Shiva, el dios creador del yoga, le dio origen a esta disciplina en la India, hace más de cinco mil años, pero fue hasta hace unos quince años que los Yoga Sutras de Patanjali, escrituras que resumen la tradición del yoga, se pusieron en práctica en suelo costarricense.

Shiva, the god creator of yoga, gave birth to this discipline in India more than five thousand years ago, but it was until about fifteen years ago that the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, scriptures which highlights the tradition of yoga, is put into practice in Costa Rica.

El conocimiento de las posiciones y la meditación fueron traídos a Costa Rica por medio de profesores que viajaron hasta el continente Asiático para formarse con los yoguis originales. Al volver, muchos abrieron los primeros estudios del país, algunos manteniéndose fieles a las tradiciones ancestrales, y otros, permitiéndose incluir algunas variantes más occidentales.

The knowledge about positions and meditation was brought to Costa Rica through teachers who traveled to the Asian continent to get trained with the original Yogis. Once they came back, many opened the first studios of the country, some staying faithful to the ancestral traditions, and others allowing some western variations to get included.

Actualmente, Costa Rica se ha consolidado como un destino de renombre mundial para la práctica del yoga. La Asociación Nacional de Yoga (Asoyoga) de la mano del Ministerio de Cultura y Juventud, ha impulsado actividades como el “Festival Nacional de Yoga”, que tuvo su sexta entrega este 2014; la participación en “Enamórate de tu ciudad”, para el fomento de la práctica de manera gratuita en parques de San José; “Yogarte” en Cartago y proyectos de beneficio social como “Corazón abierto”, que se realizó junto al Patronato Nacional de la Infancia (PANI).

Currently, Costa Rica has become a well-known world´s destination for practicing yoga. The National Yoga´s Association (Asoyoga) in the hands of the Ministry of Culture, has promoted activities such as “National Yoga Festival” in its sixth edition this 2014; “Fall in love with your city” in order to promote yoga practicing within parks in San José for free; “Yogarte” in Cartago and projects of social benefit as “Open Heart”, which was made in collaboration with the National Children’s Care Institute (PANI).

Namasté Yoga Studio Mariela pasó varios años formándose con su querido maestro Guruji en el Shri K. Pattabhi Jois Ashtanga Institute de Mysore, India y tras su regreso a Costa Rica fundó el estudio Namasté. Ella es la única maestra en toda Centroamérica, que está certificada para enseñar el método Mysore.

Enseña el Ashtanga, un tipo de yoga que combina una serie de posturas, conocidas como asanas con una técnica de respiración específica, llamada ujjayi pranayama.

Cada cierto tiempo, Namasté realiza talleres con profesores de todo el mundo certificados por el instituto de “Guruji”. Además, una vez al mes se realiza un retiro de un fin de semana a Puerto Viejo.

Krama Yoga Krama nace en 2005 por el sueño de su director, Esteban Salazar, de brindar una mejor calidad de vida a las personas. El estudio, ubicado en Escazú, cuenta con seis instructores especializados y ofrece una gran variedad de clases como Hot Yoga, Vinyasa Flow y Meditación en Movimiento. Casa Lamat Casa Lamat es un centro de balance integral que ofrece educación ambiental, asesoría en salud natural, clases de pilates, TaiChi y QiGong. Mariela spent several years learning with his dear Master Guruji in the Shri K. Pattabhi Jois Ashtanga Institute in Mysore, India, and after her return to Costa Rica, she founded the Namaste studio. She is the only teacher in Central America certified to teach the Mysore´s method.

She teaches the Ashtanga, a type of yoga that combines a series of postures, known as Asanas with a specific breathing technique named Ujjayi Pranayama.

From time to time, Namaste holds workshops with teachers from around the world certified by the Institute of “Guruji”. In addition, once a month Namaste Yoga Studio organizes a weekend retreat in Puerto Viejo.

Krama Yoga Krama was born in 2005 by the dream of its director, Esteban Salazar, to provide people a better life quality. The Studio, located in Escazú, has six specialized instructors and a variety of classes such as Hot Yoga, Vinyasa Flow and meditation. In addition to workshops and retreats, Krama has a shop that carries foreign and domestic products, also a juice bar with organic food and Super Foods.

Every Saturday there is the option of visiting the Organic Green Fair of Aranjuez, an ideal scenario for the weekly shopping. We could call it the organic movement´s birthplace at the east of the capital, since all kinds of vegetables, cheeses, artisan breads, honey, preserves and coffee can be purchased at the colorful stalls of the fair.

Fruits and vegetables that are offered are chemicals free; farms that sell them are classified as “Certified Organic” or “In Transition to Organic”.

If you go to Escazú, in Mandala all choices are healthy, from salads, juices and smoothies, to wraps, sandwiches, vegetarian burgers and pizzas.The meals are made with ingredients such as bee pollen, one of the many Super Foods into the menu and the atmosphere is completely Zen. Buena Tierra is a bohemian corner in central Escazu, lives up to its name with daily dishes, always vegan and gluten-free. En la aplicación de presión el terapeuta utiliza sus manos, codos y en ocasiones sus rodillas para realizar un tratamiento más efectivo. Este masaje es una terapia única y de grandes potenciales en el campo del masaje. Se desarrolló por milenios dentro del ambiente de templos budistas, donde prosperó como una práctica en la cual las personas que tenían una disciplina espiritual compartían las ventajas de la meditación y una forma de expresar una cualidad importante en las prácticas budistas, que es la compasión, conocido en el lenguaje del Buda (pali) como metta.

En los últimos veinte años ha existido un gran auge de esta disciplina en todo el mundo. Uno de los responsables de la expansión en occidente es sin duda Asokananda, alemán de nacimiento, quien fue el primer occidental en publicar libros de masajeTai en un idioma distinto al tailandés. Uno de sus discípulos principales, Itzhak Helman, imparte cursos de esta técnica en nuestro país desde hace casi diez años.

In the last twenty years, there has been a boom of this discipline worldwide. One of the responsible of the expansion in the West is undoubtedly Asokananda, born in Germany, who was the first occidental to publish books of Thai massage in a language other than Tai. One of his main disciples, Itzhak Helman, has been teaching this technique in our country for almost ten years.
