In the automotive world, two vehicle genres have always captured enthusiasts’ hearts and minds: supercars and hypercars. Why? Style and power. Supercars and hypercars typically come with fierce yet elegant designs and an abundance of power. Most will say that the first vehicle to fit the supercar bill was either the Bugatti EB110 or the McLaren F1, and the first hypercar was the Bugatti Veyron. Both may be extraordinary vehicles, but what Bugatti did with the Veyron set a precedent for future hypercars, and that was “abundance.” By that, I mean the Bugatti designed the Veyron with an abundance of timeless design, cutting-edge technology, and an absurd amount of power. Altogether, the Veyron was and still is an automotive marvel.
Since the Veyron’s unveiling, Bugatti has been painstakingly building upon the hypercar legacy that the model started. Following what many would consider the first hypercar, the Chiron in 2016 was yet another homerun in the hypercar segment. It’s not easy creating a successor to such an iconic car like the Veyron, but Bugatti accomplished the task beautifully. Now, eight years after the unveiling of the Chiron and 25 years since the concept car that would become the Veyron, Bugatti has unveiled its latest flagship hypercar, the Tourbillon.

Being the successor to the Chiron and flagship model for Bugatti, the Tourbillon has some enormous shoes to fill. Bugatti looked to their classic Type 35 model from the early 1900s to make that happen. Does it make sense to model a modern hypercar after a vehicle that first appeared 100 years ago? Absolutely. The Bugatti Type 35 was a groundbreaking vehicle that revolutionized the early days of racing with its innovations in lightweight construction and managed to dominate the circuits, amassing over 1,000 victories. Now, that’s the kind of car you take inspiration from.
Just like the Type 35, the Tourbillon was designed with lightweight construction as a top priority. Bugatti employed technologies like carbon fiber and 3D-printed aluminum suspension components to reduce the Tourbillon’s weight, which led to a 45% weight reduction for the brand-new hypercar.
To further reduce the Tourbillon’s weight and pump out 1,800 horsepower, Bugatti installed a V16 engine that was co-developed with legendary engineering firm Cosworth. Weighing in at just 555 lbs, the V16 can produce a mighty 1,000 hp on its own with an additional 800 hp provided by three electric motors
- two on the front axle and one on the rear. This hybrid system is not only as powerful as they come, it also gives the Tourbillon better throttle response and torque distribution for true torque vectoring and all-wheel traction.
A hypercar is only a true hypercar with a design that will make it an instant icon. For that, Bugatti’s Director of Design, Frank Heyl, played the part. He ensured that every part of the Tourbillon portrayed beauty and created a timeless, authentic, and purpose-driven vehicle. This mindset has been a cornerstone of the French carmaker’s design DNA since Ettore Bugatti founded Automobiles Ettore Bugatti in 1909, 115 years ago.
Heritage and history have shaped Bugatti’s vehicles over the past decades, and that method continues once again with the new Tourbillon. Bound to become an automotive icon for the ages, the Tourbillon has been shaped by the cars that have come before it, yet it looks forward to the future with state-of-the-art technology and cutting-edge advancements.

The numbers are in for the first half of 2024. This is how the car world’s most prominent players are doing.

The past few years have seen unique circumstances for automotive businesses. Manufacturers worldwide have dealt with serious ups and downs, navigating supply crises and the global shift towards electrification in an unprecedented chapter in automotive history. However, 2024 has seen some of the world’s biggest luxury automotive companies emerge triumphantly, with positive financial results and optimistic outlooks for the remainder of the year.
With plenty of new models starting to be delivered to clients, Ferrari is enjoying a successful first half of 2024. Compared to the first half of 2023, Ferrari’s shipments increased slightly, while its net revenues increased by 14 percent, and profits increased by 21 percent. The Prancing Horse has been ramping up deliveries of the unique Purosangue, 296 GTS, Roma Spider, and the exclusive SF90 XX, and it’s also been celebrating its back-to-back victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Meanwhile, Porsche is preparing for a robust second half of 2024. The new Porsche 911 Carrera GTS, the first roadgoing hybrid Porsche 911, has seen strong demand. At the same time, the manufacturer has also revealed the ••• Bentley has o cially retired the W12 and manufactured its last W12 engine earlier this year.
new all-electric Macan and updated versions of the 911 and Taycan this year. The new model launches translate to a slight decrease in sales revenue, but, the launches of its new models are expected to help Porsche finish 2024 strong.
As Lamborghini prepares to reveal the successor to the iconic V10-powered Huracán, the Temerario, the Fighting Bull is basking in success in the first half of 2024. Its revenue has increased by 14.1 percent, and its profits have risen to a record-breaking 458 million Euros in the year’s first half. Its order books show a wait of more than two years for the new
hybrid Revuelto, while the Huracán’s order books are full through the end of production for the model, and the hybrid Urus SE has orders for its first year of production.
With the first all-electric version of its o -roading legend, the G-Class, revealed, Mercedes-Benz’s outlook for the year’s second half expects sales to rise. The new electric G-Class and the dominant S-Class are among the “TopEnd” Mercedes-Benz models expected to drive success as the year continues.
After a streak of explosive growth and success along the journey to bring its Beyond100 plan to fruition, Bentley is optimistic for the latter half of the year with the retirement of its W12 and the reveal of its new Ultra Performance Hybrid powertrain at the heart of the new Continental GT Speed. The Flying Spur sedan is next up to receive the Ultra Performance Hybrid powertrain, with 771 horsepower and 738 lb/ft of torque.
The first half of 2024 has presented both success and challenges for the most prominent names in the luxury automotive world. However, intriguing new models and electrification are poised to bring great results for the remainder of the year. •••

Aston Martin hopes the DB12 and, by extension, its convertible Volante counterpart will serve as comeback products. The kinds of machines that pivot the brand’s trajectory away from just getting by fighting for a spot at the top of the luxury food chain. Looking at the figures alone, the DB12 seems well-equipped for the job. While it swaps out its predecessor’s V12 with a downsized 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8, it develops nearly as much as the outgoing DBS: 671 HP and 590 LB-FT.
That’s enough for a 0-60 time of just 3.6 seconds and a 202MPH top speed, all in a car weighing the best part of 4,200 LB. Still, Gaydon’s engineers haven’t just boosted the DB12’s output and called it done. Although it carries over the DB11’s basic understructure, it has been beefed up in the areas that matter most, such as its suspension mounting points, with particular attention paid to firming up its front axle. Paired with an engine brace, the DB12 exceeds the torsional rigidity of its predecessor, even in Volante form.
Set o , and the DB12’s updates are immediately detectable. While we spent most of our time cruising on open highways and winding canyon roads, the Volante always seemed up for the task. Its ZF eight-speed automatic transmission 671

As such, the DB12 bursts o the line confidently without roasting its tires, despite all its power going to the rear wheels. Feeding the accelerator with stability control dialed back, and it’ll rotate through a corner, but thanks to its long wheelbase and quickened steering, it’s easy to control. Although much work has gone into increasing driver feedback, a distinct disconnectedness is inherent to a big GT courtesy of its ample noise isolation and controls that don’t load up with weight and feel as you pick up your pace.
Aston’s chassis strengthening treatment allows the DB12’s suspension to shine, with its active dampers striking a nearperfect balance between long-distance comfort and back road sportiness. Despite its considerable mass, even the slightly less rigid Volante can tackle a back road like a sports car. It’s balanced, quick on its feet, and stable at high speeds.

MERCEDES AND FERRARI
Undoubtedly, the biggest headline going into the 2025 season is Lewis Hamilton’s departure from Mercedes and a move to Ferrari. After this bombshell move was announced, you could almost hear jaws from around the globe drop and hit the floor. After over a decade with Mercedes, Hamilton will be paired up with Charles Leclerc while the tifosi cheer him on. This, however, leaves an open spot next to George Russell at Mercedes, which has yet to have been filled as of this writing. On the upside, with a young Russell, Mercedes has a chance to bring in young talent and have a solid team for years to come.
RB
We know that Yuki Tsunoda will race for RB again in 2025, but Daniel Ricciardo has yet to have been confirmed. He has been fighting o critics all year due to a poor start but has since turned it around, posting three top 10 finishes. But, will that be enough for him to hold on to his seat? Only time will tell.
MCLAREN, RED BULL, AND ASTON MARTIN
For these three teams, their drivers will remain and why not? McLaren has seen incredible success with Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri this year; Red Bull’s Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez will remain with the team as they see no reason to mess with success; Aston Martin sees no reason to part with Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll, even giving the latter a new deal to stay through the 2026 season.
ALPINE AND HAAS
Pierre Gasly has posted a handful of top-10 finishes, which will keep him at Alpine as the team renewed him with a multi-year deal, but his teammate for 2025 will not be Esteban Ocon as he moves over to Haas. In fact, we still need to find out who Gasly will race alongside. Over at Haas, Ocon will be racing with Oliver Bearman, who finished 7th at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix for Ferrari this year. Oh, and that also happened to be Bearman’s Formula 1 debut. Now that’s how you make an entrance.
KICK SAUBER
Another team without a second driver is Kick Sauber, a team that will have Nico Hulkenberg join them in 2025. This means only one of the current drivers, Valtteri Bottas and Zhou Guanyu, could stay or Kick Sauber could look for a driver elsewhere.
WILLIAMS
There had to be an open spot for Hamilton to move to Ferrari, and Carlos Sainz’s absence in 2025 made it possible. And that’s because Sainz will be driving for Williams alongside Alex Albon. Williams has so much history behind the team, and with years of shortcomings, Sainz can aid Albon’s push to make the team a true contender once again.
