On Saturday, June 1st, our Secretary, Alex Nguyen, with fellow Deer Valley members, James Cahayay and Warren Ros joined our division for this DWS at Todos Santos Plaza in Concord to help out the Rainbow Center of Concord with their annual Pride Parade. There clubbers helped work the setup shifts, booth shifts, and cleanup shift. Alex explained that he had a fun experience there as a lot of face painting and people performing on stage.

Take Steps Walk: Walnut Creek On the Saturday of June 8th, our president, Jamie Gonzales went down to Civic Park in Walnut Creek to join our division in helping out the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation reach their goal in raising funds to find the cure for Crohn's disease and Colitis. Jamie explained that there, she was paired up with a fellow member named Sergio who was from Mt. Diablo. They were stationed near the end of the run and helped directed runners where they're supposes to go. She further explained how she had a lot fun because she was able to walk the run with Sergio and it allowed her to have a one on one talk with someone she haven't met before. This even better with the beautiful scenery that she experienced.

Take Step Walk

Ocean Beach Cleanup

On Friday, June 14th, Key Club members from Deer Valley and Collage Park came together to have joint event at Ocean Beach in San Francisco. The plan was to clean up the beach from the trash that was covering the sand. However, due to miscommunication, we lacked the waver necessary to allow us to clean up the beach. Instead a kind lady gave us an informative tour of the beach. Showing us the sea creatures, seashells, telling us the history of the beach as well. Along the way, we also picked up some trash as well. At the end of the day, though we did not ge to collect a lot of trash, we still had a great time, collecting seashells, learning about the ocean, seeing some animals, drawing on the sand, and at least collecting some trash that were lying around

Officer Training Conference On Saturday, June 15th, a mandatory officer training conference was held at Concord High School. There, all available officers of the 2019-2020 term were to attend the conference in order to further their knowledge of their respective positions and learn from past officers whom were presenting. The first round of training was the Presidents and Vice Presidents Workshop, while the others attended the Ice Breakers Workshop, playing and learning about new and how about doing ice breakers. The second round was the Treasurer and Secretaries Workshop, while the others attended the Service Projects Workshop, where they learned about the importance of service events and how to go about finding and planning those events, Then came the final round, which was the Editors Workshop, while the others attended the Public Speaking Workshop, where they learned how to enhance and practiced their public speaking. At the end of the day, the conference was a very fun experience, as well as informative; learning more about our roles as officers and how we could exponentially do better being on of our club.

June DCM/DWS: D26N/D26S Basketball Tournament/Marathon On the Saturday of June 21st, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM the Red and Blue Devils came together for the monthly DCM. Starting off the event was some fun ice breakers that allowed the members to get more comfortable with each other before the real business began. When ice breakers were over, the service part of the event began with everyone being separated into three groups, each taking turn at different stations, doing different type of work. There was dog toy making, which was fun because it allowed us guys to learn how to braid. There was also park cleanup, which was pretty fun and easy, since there was barley any trash when it was our group's turn. Finally, there was also the card making table, where we were to make and decorate some cards that would be sent to cancer patients, which was very uplifting and inspiring to make never the less. When all of the rotations were done and over with, began our DCM, where each club made some hilarious skits demonstration what we each did over the past month. There was also pizza during the DCM, so that was a definite plus as well. When all of that was done, began the official basket ball tournament. There being four team total, and with two representing Deer Valley, two games occurred simultaneously, resulting in one Deer Valley team left in the final round. The final full-court round was spectacular with each team neck and neck, making considerable amount of scored, but in the end, the team representing DVKC won thanks to their 6'5 giant of a teammate, Younes Idmadhand. At the end of the day, the event was nothing but fun. We hung out with fellow members, at pizza, played games, made skits, sang songs, and had a crazy fun basketball game; and we wouldn't have had it any other way.

Relay for Life: Los Medanos Collage On Saturday, June 22nd, four of our officers, Allison Lee, Alex Nguyen, Kaylee Mayo, and Victor Nguyen, and member, Cynthia Donjuan Fernandez joined the other Red Devils at LMC to helped out at the Relay for Life event that was taking place there. There our clubbers helped out with filling up coolers with water bottles and ice, moved tents around the field, helped out at registration and raffle booths, and lastly placed decorated paper bags that had gifts in them around the track for the love ones of cancer victims to find as the walk the track. Besides work, this event was filled with so much fun. Members who were present at the event, sang and listened to music, danced, ate pizza and drank boba, hung out with one another, told stories under the shade of a tent, and had a crazy water gun fight with the kids and fellow members on the field. All of our members had so much fun at this event, as Kaylee and Allison have stated that they loved playing with the kids and meeting people that they haven't met before, and a lot of us would have to agree with that. We would definitely do something like this again,

Scrunchies Making with Dozier Libby On the Friday of June 28th, Red Devils from both Deer Valley and Dozier Libby came together for a joint event at Hansen Park in their hometown of Antioch. There, clubbers worked together at a table to make scrunchies that would be sold to raise money for PTP. Some members also brought food for the potluck in order to partake in the raffle for prize. By the time we were done with scrunchies, we have made 34 scrunchies in total. Things were normal until our Secretary, Alex Nguyen decided to go to the restroom and wear the leggings and shirt that were used to make the scrunchies, resulting in a hilarious sequence of him walking around and posing in his new fashion statement. Besides that; when it was time to announce the winners of the raffle, which was the Nguyen Brothers, Secretary, Alex and Editor, Victor. At the end of the day, the event went from relaxing and chill to getting really out of hand very quickly, so it was both a chill and very hilarious experience.

Antioch Fourth of July Pancake Breakfast & Parade Early in the morning of the Fourth of July , Red Devils from the Antioch area (Deer Valley/Dozier Libby/Antioch) came down to Downtown Antioch, where we helped set up the tables for the Pancake Breakfast. Afterwards we headed over to a pickup truck that we would then decorate to represent Key Club in the parade. When we were done with the truck we ate some delicious breakfast and helped throw away some of the trash at the tables. When the breakfast done and over with, we cleared the tables and chairs, folded them, and packed them into the cars for removal. Next was the parade, where we grouped up, holding two banners and with the pickup truck following behind us, we joined the parade. During the parade, we smiled, waved, and did our cheers the best we could to represent our very own club. In the end it was a very unique experience. It's not everyday that we would be participants in an actual big Fourth of July parade for the city to see. For some of us it was a new and exciting experience, and it was also awe-inspiring to meet up with people that we adore and do some good this early in the morning.

Concord Fourth of July Parade & Festival On Fourth of July in Concord, our Secretary, Alex went down to Mt. Diablo High School to join up with the Red Devils at 8:00 AM in the morning to help out the City of Concord with their annual Fourth of July Parade and Festival. However, because not much was needed from us for the parade, a lot of the work came about at 4:00 PM for the festival, where more of our Deer Valley's members and editor showed. This event, unlike the others, was a lot more work than play. We all had our long shifts, coordinating the parking lot, watching and managing the bounce house and obstacle course, and running the carnival games. Though at times it could be tiring, it was still a very nice experience. To be able to being placed in an unfamiliar situation and seeing the smiles and joy on the faces the kids and their family that came to the festival, it made the festival absolutely worth it. Free food was also a giant plus as well.

Oakley Cityhood Celebration On Saturday, July 6th, starting at 1:00 PM, three of our clubbers from Deer Valley, President Jamie Gonzales, Secretary Alex Nguyen, and member, Jerricho Perez came out to the Oakley Cityhood Celebration to join the rest of the Red Devils to set up and run our glitter tattoo booth. At the start of the event, Jamie said that there was really not much to do until the celebration actually began, so for the majority of the event, it was very chill. As the event went on, Editor Victor Nguyen came by to help and our booth was becoming very successful in raising money for Key Club. Then by the end of the event, all of the remaining clubbers went down to the fields, huddled together, and watched the spectacular firework show. Overall, the event felt more like a bonding event than anything, as we hung out and met new members from within the club, shared laughs, ate food, played music, doing glitter tattoos, and finishing it off with a firework show.

Tiny Tot Triathlon with Freedom On Saturday, June 13th Deer Valley Key Clubbers came down to Veteran's Park with the Red Devils from Freedom to help out with running the Tiny Tot Triathlon there. Our roles at this event were to be positioned along the track, cheering and directing the children as they passed by on their bike or feet. This was one of our smaller event as it lasted only two hours and there was less time to mess around. However, it was still a very nice event as we had to have a positive and high spirited attitude to encourage the kids to keep going in the triathlon. Working with with joyful and high spirited children and enjoying some donuts thanks to Freedom President, Brianna Nguyen was also a nice plus. Besides that, having more DV members this time around was also very nice see.
