Officer Recognition: Allison Lee

This month, we will be recognizing our Vice President, Allison Lee for Deer Valley Key Club Officer Recognition. Since the beginning of her term, Allison has demonstrated her hard work ethic and dedication to Key Club behind the scenes of the events. As Vice President she helped our President, Jamie Gonzales with multiple tasks and overall, was there whenever Jamie needed her assistance. Though these are great accomplishments and attributes to recognize from Allison, what made her particularly shine this past month was in our World's Finest Chocolate Fundraiser, where within the first day of receiving her box, sold all of her 60 bars, raising $60 for PTP. With her hard work, assistance towards Jamie, being present for the first Spirit Social and our first meeting, and her performance in the chocolate fundraiser, our club wouldn't have been running as well as it is if it wasn't for her, therefore she is selected for this month's Officer Recognition.

Member Recognition: Thomas Chan

This month's Member Recognition of Deer Valley KEY Club goes to Thomas Chan. Ever since he started his KEY Club journey Thomas have continuously demonstrated his dedication to the club by remaining very active; going to a number of service and bonding events and being very involved with the division as well rather than just DVKC, especially after FRN. What made Thomas standout out this month however, was his involvement in the Spirit Team. By being in the Spirit Team, Thomas helped made a number of the division's cheers and was present at both Spirit Socials, teaching the cheers to the division, playing an essential role in Division 26 North's preparation for Fall Rally North. As a result of his dedication, contribution, and involvement towards the whole division, the September Member Recognition goes to Thomas Chan.

First Meeting! On Thursday, August 22nd, 2019, at 3:05 PM in Room 221, Deer Valley Key Club had our very first meeting of the term and it was a huge success. Towards the day of the meeting the officers had their doubts and predicted that only 10 to 20 people would show up to our meeting, but this was a good instant where we underestimated and put ourselves at a lower standard than we really are. On the day of the meeting, we surprisingly, had a successful turn out. We had a whopping number of __ attendees and were both overwhelmed and astonished. However, because of some complications, we had to have our meeting on a day where our president, Jamie Gonzales was not available during the first half of the meeting, so it was then up to us other officers do an icebreaker to buy her some time. The icebreaker that we chose was "Bang!", but because most of us were nervous, thanks to a former officer, Gyle Viloria got the attention of the attendees and explained the icebreakers to them. When the icebreaker started to pick up some speed, the other officers joined to help the lead the icebreaker. Later into the icebreaker, Jamie finally showed up and officially kick started our first meeting. We did our updated Key Club Pledge, introduced the officers, and then when through future future events and important news, concluding our meeting and starting of the term with a bang.

Deer Valley KEY Club First Meeting!!

August DCM: Spirit Social #1 & Water Balloon Fight

On Saturday, August 31st, 2019 , starting from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM, the division had our very first Spirit Social of the term, preparing for FRN. Upon showing up at John F. Baldwin Park in Concord, it was so cereal. Seeing all of these members from all around the division all in one place was just so incredible to witness. Starting off the social was the Spirit Coordinators leading some exciting icebreakers, which were extremely fun. Following the icebreakers, everyone was split into two groups, each being taught a number of cheers by half of the Spirit Team. It was extremely fun, especillay when the two groups started having a spirit battle with each other, as members were chanting, yelling, hyped, and carrying each other on their shoulders as we walked towards each other for the battle to commence. In between the meeting was very fun as well, as it gave time for members to just relax and spend time with each other. We danced, laughed, got to know each other, and chanted at each other. Clubs of different schools were also having a small rivalry as well, as they demonstrated their school spirits against one another, cheering their school's name. After all of the cheering, started the DCM, where our very own Jerricho Perez received Member Recognition. Then came the water balloon fight portion of the social, leaving many members soaked and water balloon in the face. At the end of the day, this was legitimately one of the most ceareal event we ever had this term, particularly due to it bringing so many members together, resulting in a D26N Red Devils Assemble experience.

Kiwanis Tricycle Race

On Friday, September 6th, 2019 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM the Red Devils of D26N lend a hand to the Kiwanis with their Tricycle Race event at Mary Casey Black Elementary School.. Starting off, clubbers helped set for the event, which included putting up tables, tents, chairs, speakers, and booths. We also helped put up decorations as well, which were mainly streamers, onto the entrance, gates, and dinning area. Then, as soon as visitors for the event began to show up, the clubbers were split up into groups to attend different task throughout the event. There were a number of fun activities for the visitors of the event to enjoy, including an obstacle course, Bean Bag Toss, and the Tricycle Race itself. Some clubbers were running and supervising some of these games others were running the popcorn stand. A good portion was also running the Tricycle Race, putting stickers on to the helmets and putting them onto the kids who were participating in the race. Later, towards the end of the event, all of the clubbers began to help close down, which included us taking down the streamers. At the end of the day, this was a very chill and fun event for KEY Clubbers to spend their Friday evening. Even if it's a lot of work, just being able to be around other clubbers is very worth it.

Spirit Social #2 On Saturday, 14th, 2019 the Red Devils of Division 26 North had our second Spirit Social in preparation for Fall Rally North. Starting off the event at the steps of Pittsburg High School, dues and paperwork were collected before the event was underway. After this was done, we migrated across the street over to the grass area, where we were divided into two groups with the Spirit Team and were taught a number of cheers. As always, our division was very spirited, as almost everyone was hyped and was putting all of their voice out into the cheers that were taught; a good demonstration of our determination to win the spirit stick again this year. Eventually, we had a break where some just mingled with each other, some played volleyball, and others just played their own separate games. Afterwards, we continued our cheers and the two groups swapped Spirit Teams and were taught a different cheer. This went on for awhile until the really exciting part of the social began, which was the spirit battle. The two groups would then face each other then would commence the spirit battle. People were carrying people up on their shoulders and the energy was definitely up there. Though it was pretty rocky, everyone had a lot of fun and that was where the event ended. In the end, the social was very successful in terms of attendance of members, new and old, and the amount fun and work that was accomplished. Now up to the next sizzling social.

Article & Visuals Kiwanis Tricycle Race Victor Nguyen On the Friday of September 6th, 2019, the Kiwanis held an event at Mary Casey Black Elementary School called the Kiwanis Tricycle Race, where they had a number of fun games, activities, and food for anybody that wanted something fun to do on their Friday evening to come by and enjoy themselves. This included the obstacle course and basketball area, Bean Bag Toss, Cake Walk, Duck Pond, and the Tricycle Race itself. With this being a pretty huge event held by the Kiwanis at an elementary school, there’s no question that a lot of families would be attending and a lot of help would be needed from the Red Devils, making this a Division Wide Service Event. Therefore, from 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM, Key Clubbers were at the elementary school, helping out with the setup, booths, cleanup, and anything else that was needed of them. Starting off the event at around 4:30 PM, clubbers began showing up at the school to help set up, which included us setting up the tents, chairs, tables, speakers, and booths, as well as putting up the streamers and decorating them around the picnic tables and the entrance fence. Soon after, more clubbers and visitors began to show up, resulting in us having to split off into different groups to tend to different booths and tasks. Some clubbers ran games like the Bean Bag Toss, Duck Pond, and Cake Walk, while others supervised the obstacle course and basketball area. There was also a portion of clubbers assisting at the table for the Tricycle Races as well, where they helped stuck the Kiwanis stickers on the helmets, helped the kids put them on and supervised them as they raced each other on a racetrack and winning a helmet and a Kiwanis Brentwood Club Tricycle Races ribbon just by participating. Then, towards the end of the event, all of the clubbers helped closed down and clean up, as we took down the streamers and helped put away the chairs, tables, and tents. Overall, this was an extremely fun event for all of us who attended it. There were a lot of fun activities for all of us to helps out at, so we were kept busy for the majority of the event and being around fellow clubbers was also a plus. A member of Deer Valley Key Club named, Gyle Viloria also commented, “Overall, it was an extremely fun event! We got to hang out and meet new people, as well as have some fun playing with children”. Many of us would also have to agree with Gyle here. We did had a really fun time, as it was very nice to end the long school week off with a service event, where we were able to spend some time with fellow members from the division, new and old, who we really adore. Seeing the happy faces of families and their children was also really rewarding as well.
