2012 Crime Victims’ Memorial Service nd

The 22 Annual Crime Victims’ Memorial Service will be held at the First Baptist Church of Decatur, 308 Clairemont Avenue, Decatur, Georgia 30030, on Sunday, April 22, 2012, from 7:00 – 9:00 pm. The Service kicks off the beginning of National Crime Victims Rights Week, and is designed to be a healing event for victims and survivors of crime. During the service a member of each family may come to the front and read the name of their murdered loved one and a candle will be lit in their memory. Please call, email, mail, or phone in your loved one’s name to us, no later than April 10, 2012, so we can print the name in the bulletin. A memorial wall of many of those murdered in Metro-Atlanta from 1991 to the present will be on display and you may bring a memento of your loved one to place at the front of the sanctuary. The First Baptist Church of Decatur is located in downtown Decatur, at the intersection of Clairemont Avenue and Commerce Drive. Other events for the benefit of crime victims during National Crime Victims Rights Week and throughout the year: • Come early to the Memorial Service! Beginning at 5 pm, there will be refreshments in the Fellowship Hall below the Sanctuary at the First Baptist Church of Decatur, and a chance to speak to attorneys, officials and others who may have information that will assist you. • A crime prevention training & self defense presentation by Clarence Hall, a certified “Refuse to be a Victim” instructor, will be held at Cumberland Community Church, 3110 Sports Ave, SE, Smyrna, Georgia 30080, during the weekend. Check CVAC’s website for more information. • CVAC offers two peer support groups for those who have lost a loved one to homicide; one on Tuesday evenings in Cobb County and another on Wednesday evenings in DeKalb County. Other services CVAC provides to victims of crime: • CVAC offers assistance in completing victim compensation claims, victim impact statements, and requests for victim notification. • CVAC offers a helpline anyone can call for information and resources for crime victims between 8 am and 8 pm. • CVAC offers a scholarship for a member of a family victimized by murder or DUI.
