Tennessee Tech begins its first season under new head coach Mike Hennigan in 1996 and Hennigan is expecting one thing above all else from the Golden Eagles - -competition

"The whole team will be starting from scratch, and that should make for some good competition," Hennigan said.

At quarterback , senior Jamie Sander (1,738 yards passing and 10 touchdowns in '95) , junior Greg Triplett (538 yards passing, two TD's, 67 percent completion rate) and sophomore transfer Phillip Anderson are expected to battle for the starting spot , with redshirt freshman Thomas Weaver also in the mix.

Seniors Mondreka Hendrix and Demond Stone headline Tech's receiver corps Stone had 20 catches for 278 yards and three TD's in 1995 , while Hendrix added 15 grabs for 137 yards and one score

Several familiar faces return to the defensive front in 1996 Seniors Marcus Patton and Shawn Sickler and juniors EddieArnell and Jamie McBryar will work at the end positions In the middle, seniors Jim Nelson and Adam Wright lead the way.

Juniors Trent McNaull (7 4 tackles) and Sammy Sanders (61 tackles) will lineup at the inside linebacker positions. Ira Lacy returns atstrongside LB, while Eric Rowe will lineup at roverback

Senior Robert Taylor , who was second in the league in interceptions in 1995 with six , returns for his final campaign at one corner Senior Jay Henderson returns at punter(39 1 avg ), while senior Ryan Kelly (6-8 FG , 26-28 EP) is back as Tech's kicker
