Atribuída a Desmond Tutu, símbolo da luta contra o Apartheid na África do Sul e Prémio Nobel da Paz em 1984, a frase espelha de forma inequívoca a tomada de consciência sobre a mobilização e intervenção social e a ruptura com a neutralidade em relação aos principais factos que marcam a actualidade socioeconómica e política em Angola. De acordo com o arcebispo imérito anglicano, falecido a 26 de Dezembro de 2021, aos 90 anos, a posição de neutralidade perante uma injustiça ou opressão é um apoio expresso ou indirecto “ao status quo do injusto”. Assim, o exercício da cidadania, do patriotismo, da liberdade de pensamento e de expressão, bem como da participação na tomada de decisão dos assuntos do Estado é um imperativo para cada um de nós, principalmente em períodos decisivos para o futuro do país. O patriarca sul-africano não deu lugar à neutralidade, não alterou a voz ante ao silêncio ensurdecedor dos opressores do seu tempo. Pelo contrário, melhorou os argumentos e advogou com sabedoria e firmeza. Desmond Tutu é digno de um bom descanso. Recorde-se que Desmond Tutu é o primeiro negro a ocupar o cargo de Arcebispo da Cidade do Cabo, tendo sido também o Primaz da Igreja Anglicana da África Austral entre 1986 e 1996. É autor de sete colecções de sermões e outros escritos, entre eles “Deus não é cristão: E outras provocações”. n Attributed to Desmond Tutu, symbol of the struggle against Apartheid in South Africa and Nobel Peace Prize in 1984, the phrase unequivocally reflects the awareness of social mobilization and intervention and the break with neutrality on the main events marking the current socioeconomic and political situation in Angola. According to the Anglican Archbishop Emeritus, who died on December 26, 2021, at the age of 90, the position of neutrality in the face of injustice or oppression is an expressed or indirect support for “the status quo of the unjust”. Thus, the exercise of citizenship, of patriotism, of freedom of thought and expression, and participation in the decision-making of the affairs of the state, is an imperative for each of us, especially in the moments decisive for the future of the country. The South African patriarch did not give way to neutrality, did not change his voice in the face of the deafening silence of the oppressors of his time. On the contrary, he improved his arguments and advocated with wisdom and firmness. Desmond Tutu is well-deserving of good rest. To recall that Desmond Tutu is the first black South African to hold the office of Archbishop of Cape Town, and was also the Primate of the Anglican Church of Southern Africa from 1986 to 1996. He is the author of seven collections of sermons and other writings, including “God is not Christian: And Other Provocations”. n
