A shared path is a blessed journey From the Editor

by Tim Miejan Every year, around November, I contemplate potential themes — featured topics — for each of the coming months to inspire readers to share their own stories and inspiration with us. Some topics help us understand better how to do something, such as shop more holistically in the food market. Other topics are more abstract, like next month’s featured topic — Authenticity: sharing your experiences and tips on how we can all be our Real Selves all of the time, and how to best respond with those who are un-Real. This month, I offered the topic of how to “green” our bodies. On the surface, it seemed like a wonderful way to inspire all of us to care for our bodies from a more holistic sensibility. More than just putting healthy, organic foods in our bodies, we can now choose from an entirely new marketplace of products designed to support our whole bodies, from hair to toes, without using man-made chemicals that ultimately may do more harm than good. Some months, our readers respond with vigor to our featured topics, sending me dozens of articles, more than I can print in this magazine but offer to all of our readers globally on our website. This month, I received only three articles on the topic. Was I disappointed? Did it say something about the topic I proposed? No. THE EDGE MAGAZINE 763.433.9291 P.O. What happened instead was that I received a number of articles that addressed where we are now, as a people. We all sense that this is one of those moments when important things are happening. We all sense that we are all being awakened a little more every day as the veil is opened and more of who we are is being revealed. So when only three articles are written on the official topic, and others are writing on something more pressing to their souls, I pay attention. I hope you do, too. This month, a bright light from Northern California, Mikaya Heart, shares a piece called “Manifesting: The Missing Pieces,” which at the heart of it all is an article about how we can create our lives from the soul. Another frequent contributor to The Edge from Pennsylvania, Dr. Stewart Bitkoff, an avid student of Sufi mysticism, shares a piece called “The Sufi Call: Making a Better World.” He, too, is providing direction for us at a time when problems seem to multiply and solutions are in short supply.

I hesitate to say we are at a crossroads, because in the bigger picture, every moment is a choice, and every choice is a course correction. We are an imperfect piece of marble that slowly, but carefully, is being carved with precision. Every so often a big fragment may fall away and we all feel it deeply. This past month was such an example. But it was still a small part of the process. The challenge for all of us, particularly those in the spiritual community who desire to manifest a perfect peace on Earth now, is to acknowledge that we are all in this together: those who are enlightened and those who are just beginning the journey. We cannot run ahead to grasp the prize and leave everyone else behind. We cannot look back while others are stumbling on the path and not respond. We cannot put ourselves above anyone else. Our task now is to humbly walk in service on this Earth and inspire connection between those who are not talking, and shine our light where there is darkness so those who are lost can find the way forward. This is a time for those who see the path to stop and turn around and support those who are struggling just to catch a breath. Is it possible for all of us to make the journey together? Perhaps that should be the goal. a Tim Miejan is editor and co-publisher of The Edge. Contact him at 651.578.8969 or email editor@edgemagazine.net. Copyright © 2016. All Rights Reserved.

Vegetables ripe for skewering Food First

by Nutrition Julie What makes August great is the abundance of vegetables in the garden and still plenty of long summer days left to grill! Of course, there also are plenty of fun, summer activities, so I like to keep meals quick, simple and nutrient dense. This recipe is fun for older kids, as well! Let them skewer their own fun combinations and they will enjoy eating them all the more! Serve alongside your favorite grilled meat or fish. Rainbow Skewers Collect your favorite veggies from the garden or local farmer’s market, some of my favorites are: Zucchini Yellow summer squash Onions Assorted peppers: Red, Yellow, Green and Orange Cherry Tomatoes Button Mushrooms/Baby Portabellas Wash and chop your veggies into 1-inch chunks. Put them all in a large

bowl together and pour a marinade mixture over them. Marinade: 2 T Olive Oil 1 T Balsamic Vinegar 2 cloves chopped garlic Salt and Pepper to taste Of course if you have lots of veggies, increase your marinade amounts. There should be enough to finely coat the vegetables. Marinade for at least 15 minutes, or longer for a better flavor. Place vegetables on skewers in any order you please. Grill to desired doneness (20-30 minutes, turning occasionally). Also great in the broiler. a Nutrition Julie is a Certified Holistic Health Coach and Raw Food Nutrition Educator who is passionate about Nutrition, Health and Wellness. The Sufi Call: Making a better world Nasrudin was now an old man looking back on his life. He sat with his friends in the tea shop telling his story. “When I was young I was fiery — I wanted to awaken everyone. I prayed to Allah to give me the strength to change the world. In mid-life I awoke one day and realized my life was half over and I had changed no one, so I prayed to Allah to give me the strength to change those around me who so much needed it. Alas, now I am old and my prayer is simpler. “Allah,” I ask, “please give me the strength to at least change myself.” — by Eric Twose, The Caravanserai Page (Facebook) by Dr. Stewart Bitkoff According to Sufi tradition, man/woman is the meeting point between heaven and earth and is created with a spiritual destiny. Within each person there is the capacity to create, make decisions and destroy. These aspects or abilities reflect Higher attributes and man/woman’s birthright is to rule a vast, personal spiritual kingdom. Humanity is evolving to a higher state of consciousness. This is both individual and collective — as a race of people. This evolution is purposeful and guided so it may be attained. To help safeguard this Plan, there is a hierarchy of servants and teachers who work on many levels. Collectively humanity has a potential and destiny. Many of the holy books speak about this potential. These references are part allegorical and part literal. In the Plan, each person or soul has a distinctive role. In part, that is what this life is about. To figure out how you fit into the world, using your physical, mental and spiritual potential. The world needs good people who are doing what they can to make things work for themselves and others. In each day, there are many opportunities to reach higher and fulfill your individual destiny or plan. Simply ask yourself, before doing something that you are uncertain about, if this action will bring you closer or further you from your own higher destiny and the Source. Learn to wait for an answer. You can do this. Slowly you will begin to hear your own inner capacity. Follow this inner voice. This inner voice and its wisdom are aligned with the higher destiny of the universe. This piece is written for those who come later and those who might wonder how to make this world a little better. This formula (and Plan) has long existed; it is relatively easy to describe, but more complex to inact. The Formula

First, work on yourself to become the best version of yourself. Second, join hands 10  www.edgemagazine.net

with others and contribute to making your family, community and world better. In each thought/action reach higher; seek to take the high road: expressing the highest part of self. The Inner Journey

The inner journey begins by realizing the potential within and the potential within us all, collectively. Within each there is an empty space that we seek to fill with all kinds of things, people and pursuits. This primal emptiness is part of the reason we came to this planet/realm. We came here to fully express ourselves both as spiritual and physical beings; this emptiness serves as a friction that pushes us forward, always searching for that missing piece, wanting more and pushing ourselves to go further. Without it, we would be more or less content with our circumstance and rarely seek to travel further. It is the fire in our belly to go and do, seek and become. Filling the Empty Place

Ultimately, this empty place is to be filled with The Light of Eternity. Once this missing piece has been identified and added to the mix, higher learning and more purposeful living might begin. You see, in a sense, we were born incomplete so the Light might fill this empty place with spiritual energy and more fully incorporate our other talents — and then we have what is termed the completed person. One of the characteristics of this individual, who has reached spiritual completion, is that they are equally concerned about themselves as they are about others. Realizing that if people are to reach their full potential, they must be given opportunity to go and become — also realizing that if their brother is hungry, they in a sense are hungry, as well. For you see, having experienced the interconnectedness of all living things through the Light, they realize the Higher Potential can only be accomplished if people focus and work together. Helping Others

The world is a mess right now, because people are not working together to help each other. There are too many takers; key individuals are overly concerned for themselves and are not considering their brothers/sisters at the level necessary. This is the situation where some self-interest is necessary to healthy living, but over-concern leads to selfishness, which is harmful to self and others. The first step in making the world better is: to work on yourself to become the best person that you are capable of becoming.

Find out who you are, what talents you have and how they might be incorporated into the world. Each of us has come here with a skill set that will help us fulfill our life plan. This life plan is designed so that you can reach personal excellence and, in the process, make the world a better place. Better individuals working together help create better outcomes. Each of us has an individual spiritual destiny, and humanity has a collective destiny, as well. Through the Light, the entire universe is evolving upward, returning to the place of Origin. When the souls were created, they were sent out into the universe with a cosmic mission: to go and create, returning one day more complete in understanding and increased capacity to be One with the Creative Element. In the earth phase, because of the contrast between the spiritual and physical, greater opportunity exists to create and join with the Creative Element. Within each soul, there is an aspect that is most like this Creative Element. It is this aspect that will lead us home through the many worlds and is our compass through the dark night. Compromise & the Lower Soul

One of the characteristics of the lower self is that it wants what it wants and reluctantly compromises. Yet, compromise is an essential aspect to living in a family and community; yet it is something that is difficult for the lower soul to learn and accept. Hence, for most there is an ongoing friction between what we want and what the situation may demand. We see this trait in young children, particularly when they are focused on doing something. They will scream and shout — yelling and crying, “I want it now.” While the response from an adult may be a little more subtle, the intent is often the same: wanting things their way. The desire to control is a very ancient part of us, and it talks to our need for survival and directing our destiny. Sometimes, this need to have our own way stands in the way of our living harmoniously with others. It also can be an impediment to accepting solutions to complex problems. Sometimes, we have to give-in a little and accept outcomes that we don’t want to accept. A compromise is a way of settling differences, with everyone making some concession and often meeting halfway. This is something that is very difficult for the untrained lower soul to do, for the lower soul wants to be in charge dictating outcomes. One of the biggest learning experiences for me was when I had children. I had to learn to give up my time and help care for   see Sufi Call on p. 12

  Sufi

Call from p. 10

them. While I personally wanted to sleep, my wife and I took turns doing the middle-of-the-night feeding. The lower soul in me was yelling, “Stay in bed,” and the higher soul was saying, “Get-up and care for your young one.” What made this easier was the love in my heart, and it pushed me forward and helped get me out of bed. Until all people see this dynamic working in themselves and rise above it — the need to get what we want (stay in bed) as opposed to what the situation requires (feed the babe) — there will be friction and lack of harmony. Caring For My Neighbor

Why should I care about my neighbor? There are many reasons to do so. First, nobody lives in isolation. We are social creatures who depend upon each other for our survival and quality of life. Second, if my neighbor is hungry and sick, at some point, these troubling conditions will affect me directly. I may catch whatever disease is affecting my neighbor. And one day if he continues to stay hungry, he will knock on my door demanding food. We see this throughout history. Eventually, oppressed people turn against their oppressors and take back whatever is rightfully theirs. This is a vicious cycle, and our best chance for co-existence is mutual sharing of resources. The Sufi Call says that within our universe there is a primal energy that is life-giving, loving and all-knowing. This energy is the enabling factor, and in time through a guided course of study, the individual learns to embrace and use this primordial element. Having a part of this element within, slowly the individual recognizes this energy as the Source of their inner burning. In the journey to completion, each is the prodigal son/daughter who returns, with spiritual capacity and is embraced by their Father/Mother to share in the kingdom and their birthright. Then, gradually as intended, the world becomes a better place: one person at a time. a Dr. Stewart Bitkoff is an avid student of Sufi Mysticism and the perennial philosophy. Professionally, specializing in the healing applications of therapeutic recreation, psychiatric rehabilitation and mental health treatment, Bitkoff holds a doctorate in education and has served as a faculty member for six colleges and universities. Manifestation

The missing pieces by Mikaya Heart Much of what is written about the concept of manifestation makes people roll their eyes. Whatever your attitude, looking at the missing pieces in this process helps us to understand the true nature of reality, and then we can more easily choose a life that is pleasing and worthwhile. The first of these missing pieces is summed up in the question, “Who is doing the manifesting?” Something manifested you before you were born, and made choices that dictated the kind of life you have led, right? We can call this original source of creation by many names, such as higher self, soul, source, god, or all-that-i-am. What did all-that-I-am intend when it chose the character, the body and the environment into which you were born? And who does the choosing now that this human self thinks it is adult enough to make its own choices? The answers to those questions require us to adopt a very broad perspective on life in human form. All-that-we-are doesn’t know pain, fear, anger or frustration. It doesn’t know what it’s like to be limited. It’s fascinated by the possibilities inherent in a life in limited physical form. It wants to experience everything. Appreciating and accepting the wisdom of allthat-we-are doesn’t mean the human self can’t make its own choices, but it requires learning how to experience everything fully, because that satisfies all-that-we-are, and it will then allow the human self to move on to other things that will hopefully be more in alignment with what we humans consider pleasant. We cannot avoid the destinies that all-thatwe-are wants for us, no matter how much we might wish to do so. The skill of being fully present for an unpleasant experience is an essential aspect of the art of being human, enabling us to get it over with quickly. The beauty of acknowledging the source of all creation is that we are immediately a lot closer to what we really want. Many people, when they first think about what they want, will say more money. It’s great to have money — but once the basics are met, wouldn’t peace of mind be a lot more valuable? What about being able to embrace the fullness of our potential? Or operating from a place of trust

and leaving behind fears that keep us limited? Money is only a tool. Let’s move beyond the concept of financial welfare to something more profound. Another missing piece is about allowing yourself to feel the joy of having what you want, and allowing that joy to flow through your body. That is no small feat when you don’t actually have it yet, and you must have been feeling its absence, or lack, because otherwise you wouldn’t know you want it. You have to change this awareness of lack. It helps to have a positive attitude to life, a good partnership with your body, and a very strong imagination. It takes practice. And when we keep falling back to the default awareness of lack, the thing we want can’t come to us. We are unconsciously wishing it away instead of wishing it present. We have to acknowledge our deep-seated default beliefs so that we can change or replace them, yet they are so familiar that we are probably unaware of them. However, this process involves more than just our minds: it is also about our bodies. When we allow the energy of a desire to flow through our bodies, so that we jump for joy and laugh out loud — then we are really on our way to fulfilling our desires, and we can bypass the mental beliefs that block that fulfillment. A single article cannot possibly cover the art of manifestation in any depth but perhaps you are getting the idea that it requires the courage to do some serious soul-searching, far beyond egoic motivation. Ultimately, it puts you in touch with powerful creative abilities in this lifetime and further, which is tremendously rewarding. Some people may not support you, but many of us are choosing to look more deeply now — and we are all rooting for each other. a Mikaya Heart is an award-winning author, a spiritual mentor, a shamanic practitioner, and an ordained Minister of Holistic Healing, helping people to operate from a place of trust instead of fear. August horoscope

Industrious joy Mercurial Messages through the Zodiac

by Heather Roan Robbins This August is unusually industrious. We may only get a few moments lazying in a hammock or communing with the trout stream, so let gratitude make every one of those moments precious. If our responsibilities nag us, we’ll be happier when we’ve done something constructive. Our personal, professional or social justiceoriented efforts can bring us deep satisfaction as the month unfolds. Leo season brings creativity; this year’s cultural urgencies ask us to renew, but also keep working towards a more beautiful world. The Leo sun trines Saturn early August and encourages our work. School supplies begin to look good after Venus enters Virgo on August 5. Mars leaves brooding Scorpio and enters upbeat, impatient Sagittarius on August 2. Work around logistical snafus August 6-10; if you’re feeling confused or concerned, act

14  www.edgemagazine.net

with compassion foremost. Delays unravel and progress furthers after Saturn turns direct on August 13. An Aquarius Full Moon eclipse on August 18 creates an opening for community healing if we balance the needs of the individual with those of the collective. Our conversation expands as Mercury conjuncts Jupiter August 22. Expect uncertainty or a wisp of sadness as the first leaves tinge red around August 26 as Mars squares Neptune. Let a beautiful Jupiter-Venus conjunction expand emotions Aug 29. Organize logistics before Mercury retrogrades on August 30. Aries (Mar. 21-Apr. 19)…Keep attending your gardens of all types; seeds planted last year towards travel, education and expansion begin to shoot sprouts. Be tactful August 6-7 as Venus squares Mars, even if your tail twitches. Rein in impulses and direct them towards your longterm goals around August 24 as Mars conjuncts Saturn.

Taurus (Apr. 20-May 20)…This month may work paradoxically; work to strengthen your own resources, and they slip away; work to help others in a healthy and sustainable way, and your worth grows. If confusion bubbles between people you love mid-month, don’t get caught up in their stories: stand back and be steady instead.

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)… Breathe: after a few tough months, you are out of the hot seat this month, if you choose to be, as Mars enters Sagittarius. Watch a tendency to over extend, listen to pearls of wisdom from friends. Garden relationships with beloveds mid-August, and clarify misunderstandings August 24-26.

Gemini (May 21-June 20)…Think peace, peace, peace: even though it may be tempting to stress quibble, particularly with beloveds around Aug 6-10, find your still quiet place within, and radiate peace. Be on the lookout for full opportunities around August 22, and clear misunderstandings and pursue possibilities.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)… You’ve been doing a lot of deep inner work this year, and now the results show, but it’s your choice whether you shine or growl as Mars enters Sagittarius. Nurture your playful spirit and appreciate those who love you at the end of the month.

Cancer (June 21-July 22)… Bring your attention to your material resources, whether that’s your garden, body or bank account. Appreciate what you have; tend the crops and they multiply. Work on communications with siblings and sibling-like people, though they may be stressed on August 6-10. Stay centered around the eclipse on August 18; step back from reactivity and break into good possibilities. Leo (July 23-Aug. 22)…Be the sunshine. You can be appreciated for your maturity and leadership as the month begins, but you need to share the spotlight anyway. When the group shines, so do you, particularly around the eclipse on August 18. Towards the end of August, it will bear fruit to put form and work towards your dreams. Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)…Take the opportunity to reach out and start the conversation. Let the natural flow ease your stage fright. You may feel lazy or find the world taxing August 6-10, but efforts reap rewards. Kick back and relax around August 2. Fill the wells, you’ll be very busy soon. Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)…This month for you may be thoughtful, a time of introspection when everybody else is partying at the picnic. Engage intriguing, behind-thescenes transformative work. Breathe through temperamental relationships on August 6; do that good relationship work mid-August. Do the right thing, and then allow yourself to wax poetical as the month ends.

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan.19)…This could be a lovely month, though keep your eye out for co-dependent behavior; you’re so wonderfully efficient it’s easy to take advantage. Balance your joys with responsibilities, your needs and theirs. Let spirit, water and imaginations field the world weariness mid-month, and feel energy return to your work around August 24. Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)… Your friends and community may have a lot going on this month, so decide carefully when to engage. Confusion about other people’s resources will need radical honesty and clear engagement. Don’t be afraid to receive or give — just clarify the term. Be thoughtful early August, and engage opportunities after August 13. Pisces (Feb. 19-Mar. 20)…Tend to your health now, and it continues to improve. Be neither passive nor worried; be positive and proactive instead. Correct misunderstandings around August 7, then imagine, create and love in mid-August. At the end of the month, be patient professionally, and engage socially. a Heather Roan Robbins is a heartcentered and choice-oriented astrologer, palmist and ceremonialist with 30+ years’ experience. 5 Radical Ideas that will change You, and the World, forever “To be truly radical is to make hope possible rather than despair convincing.” — Raymond Williams by Nick Seneca Jankel There is a war going on right now, as you are reading this. It is a war that all of us are participating in, whether we know it or not. And it is a war whose stakes are so high that the very future of our economy, our environment and our children’s lives depend on the outcome. This battle is a battle for ideas — the beliefs and values that govern how the entire world works. And the only way to join the battle is to question your own assumptions and make sure that what you believe — about yourself, the world, and the connections between the two — fits what you feel in your deepest core. You, me and everyone else who cares about our shared future as a species must do this if we are to thrive ourselves; and ensure our world thrives too. As William Blake said: We “must create a system or be enslaved by another man’s.” Below, I share with you five of the most radical ideas any of us can think. They are radical because they challenge the current system and the individuals and organizations that benefit most from it. These ideas fly in the face of five “Noble

Lies” (as Plato called them), basic assumptions about who we are and what our role in life is that are the foundation of all modern economics, politics, business, medicine and individual lifestyle aspirations. To embrace the radical, we must first be prepared to give up the comfortable. This can be challenging — a red-or-the-blue-pill moment. What makes it more tricky is that many of the rich and powerful ridicule these five radical ideas, trying instead to sell us all on a “rational” worldview that puts profit and productivity ahead of just about everything else. They have achieved this feat by claiming: that the way things are fits the “natural” order of things; that survival of the fittest is a genetic imperative; that the profit motive is elemental and benefits everyone eventually; and that we are all selfinterested, rational, utility-optimizers. As a race and planet, we are now paying for the consequences. In the words of the great critical thinker Michel Foucault, it is time to “excavate” the foundations of our political, social and economic systems and identify the outdated assumptions that lie at the heart of them. Then we can, one assumption at a time, discern if they seem to be timeless and true; or false and failing. Are the ideas we run our lives on creating a world of enlightenment, empowerment

and enjoyment — or a world of depression, disease and devastation?

Big 5 Myths I believe that the Big 5 Myths whose time has come are: The myth of the machine: The universe   is like a clock. We are cogs within it. We must work and produce to be of value. If value can’t be measured, it doesn’t really exist. The myth of the self: We are atomic   units, discrete individuals, destined to be alone (and lonely). The myth of competition: We are all   inherently selfish and naturally competitive, driven by survival to fight tooth and claw for what we feel we need. The myth of personal ownership:   Whatever we find or make we should own — no matter how much others may need it. The myth of growth: We have to   constantly accumulate more wealth, and create more value, in a world of unlimited natural resources. These ideas may look innocuous, but they are profoundly dangerous. The work as a nested hierarchy, one scaffolding on the surface of the other, ever upwards towards rampant capitalism, corrupt politics and painful, disconnected lives.

5 Big Ideas Instead, if we switch on, we can embrace five bold ideas: The idea of the organism: The universe   is alive, organic, interconnected. We are here to create and express. The idea of interdependence: We are   profoundly interconnected in ways that we can fathom and ways we cannot. The more we feel the interconnection, the more we thrive. The idea of collaboration: We are all as   inherently kind and compassionate as we are selfish; we can always work together towards a common purpose. The idea of sharing: We can share   resources, even if that means we “lose” personally; we can give before we get to create a win win-win for all. The idea of flourishing: We can conserve   our resources and focus instead on personal growth and mutual thriving. These 5 Big Ideas have not been plucked from thin air — more wishful thinking by an unrealistic optimist. Each is grounded in the latest scientific research into physics, networks, social psychology and animal behavior. Each has precedent both in the historical record and in tribes and cultures different from our own. Each has been taught for millennia by countless wisdom traditions and indigenous myths. Each has been leveraged for extraordinary impact by the greatest thinkers and leaders of modernity, from Leo Tolstoy to Nelson Mandela.

Each is a systemic “sweetspot” — what Buckminster Fuller, the legendary designer and innovator, called a “trimtab” — where a small shift can create disproportionately large change. This is all about cultural, cosmological, metaphysical acupuncture. If we are willing to surrender the old assumptions and embrace the new ideas — which fit emerging scientific evidence far better — we can change everything that we have created in the “real” world, global warming and child poverty included. The resulting Inner Revolution has the power to sweep all before it. Our worst problems can disappear remarkably quickly, as they are simply crystallizations of what we collectively believe. The core of this Inner Revolution has to be spiritual, not political, in nature. As a brilliant historian, Lynn White, wrote in a prescient essay in 1967: “Since the roots of our trouble are so largely religious, the remedy must also be essentially religious, whether we call it that or not.” We are transforming our understanding of human nature away from a worn out cultural narrative towards a fresh, vibrant one: We get to enjoy knowing ourselves as conscious beings that are intrinsically part of, and inextricably interlinked with, a creative, dynamic, conscious universe. The Inner Revolution is not simply an intellectual exercise, cognitive sword-play for the educated elite. Nor is it merely a pretty New Age ideal. Far from it. As we embrace the truth of our existence, we begin

to deliver it tangibly in all our actions and creations in the real world. We turn inspiration into action in the form of social enterprises, intentional communities, collaborative consumption, digital and real-world activism, conscious capitalism and scores of other practices and principles that build thrivability over negativity. The Inner Revolution — a politics of judicious hope not cynical despair — is our only chance if we want to stop spending our precious shared resources on things we don’t really need, accelerating injustice and planetary degradation in the process.   This kind of radical self-consciousness — bringing with it the often uncomfortable realization of the complicity of each of our everyday thoughts in the creation and maintenance of a system that, well, sucks for most — is the key to bringing into existence the concrete social justice, environmental sustainability, economic equality and inter-racial peace so many truly hope for. Our only hope today lies in our ability to recapture the revolutionary spirit and go out into a sometimes hostile world declaring eternal hostility to poverty, racism and militarism. We must move past indecision to action. a

Connecting to your Higher Self Tapping into the energy of the Moment A Pleiadian Message

by Christine Day Beloved ones, we greet you. Through the anchoring of the Covenant on the planet last month there has been a further unfolding of a series of energetic shifts. Sacred openings have revealed further unlimited opportunities for you to journey on a new pathway. A doorway is being held wide open so you can effortlessly enter and be led onto this road. This heralds in a Timeline space in which you can navigate into new realms of potential. This Timeline is designed to enable you to align, stabilize and be brought into a deeper perception of what we call “the moment.” The direct experience will bring you into a fuller comprehensive understanding of what is available to you on another level. The energy of “the moment” gives you access to the multidimensional expression of your Higher Self. These aspects of you that exist within “the moment” bring you to another state of experiencing your self without the interference of the 3rd dimensional element of the ego mind. Multidimensional aspect

Through these revolutionary pure energies that are being transmitted by the Covenant, a full stabilization of “the moment” is made possible to enable you to navigate and experience the multidimensional aspects of Self. Many of you are ready to begin a more complete connection with your Higher Self through the powerful energy of “the moment.” This pathway has been created for your own self-empowerment, so that you can begin a profound, more stable connection with your Higher Self. You are being called right now by your own Higher Self to begin this sacred reconnection. In the past, many veils have been in place preventing you from developing this stable connection. An opening created by the Covenant energy makes it possible for you to be repositioned with this higher consciousness of Self that exists. Through the Covenant, you are being presented with a passport that moves you beyond the separated state. In the past you have been held back through illusion, which has prevented you from having a full experience of Truth. As you enter “the moment,” you will become aware of a limitless Timeline that exists. Understand that you are naturally connected to “the moment.” This is an innate part of your higher state. So as you move into the experience of “the moment,” you realign to that which already exists as part of your sacred nature within. Through this opening, an unlimited potential of being is revealed for you to receive, acknowledge and align. 18  www.edgemagazine.net

A deeper aspect

By bringing your awareness into the experience that is presenting in “the moment” and then placing your conscious breath directly into the happening, you are able to enter a deeper aspect of “the moment” being held on a multidimensional level. This whole process can be likened to opening up a gift. Your awareness and breath is like unwrapping the gift. As the wrapping comes away, you discover a sacred revelation within “the moment” of the experience! As you consciously choose to open into “the moment” in this way, you fully receive what is waiting for you within the experience. There are always gifts to receive in “the moment” that are unfathomable from the ego mind’s perception. However, these gifts are jewels waiting for you to reach in and reclaim. This is why we refer to the multidimensional moment. As you open to receive these powerful energetic forms within “the moment,” you transform because you are aligning — receiving new levels of your own Higher Self. The Covenant’s energy allows for the acceleration of your own birthing process. The process itself requires you to slow down and to consciously begin to take full ownership of your self in ‘“the moment.” Know that you can open into one level of “the moment” and then another level, continuing to unfold, working within many different levels of your own Higher Self multidimensional potential. Self-transformation

Consider how many “moments”exist within your day. We are asking for you to select just one moment in time to utilize this unwrapping, being with “the moment” process, simultaneously anchoring this multidimensionality of Self through your life. Each time you choose to unfold into your experience in this way, you will create self-transformation. Know that as you unfold into “the moment,” you open into an unlimited Timeline space of potential. There is no end to the possibilities that you can unfold within. In Truth, you are going through a powerful metamorphosis. The evolution of your Higher Self is taking place within the sacred form that is birthing from “the moment.” For many of you, this action of coming into “the moment” is to be now. You get to initiate playing out this essential aspect of your unfolding destiny. This is part of your mission, part of your self-realization process that leads into your enlightenment. Energetic hologram

We, the Pleiadians, are here to stabilize the Covenant and to anchor an energetic Hologram on the planet. This Hologram contains the full frequency energy of the awakening of humanity for this time. This acts as a mirror, reflecting out to you your own brilliance that is contained and

found within “the moment.” So you have the full potential of your Higher Self being mirrored to you. The Sun is also carrying aspects of this mirroring and is aligning through the Hologram and into the Covenant. Mother Mary plays a powerful role in this unfolding process. She holds the sacred heart energy and transmits this through the Hologram, sending it outwards to each one of you who call her forward. She carries the Holy Mother energy, presenting the full creation frequency out to all who wish to receive from her. Do know that her love is interconnected through all hearts, and as you move consciously into “the moment” your own heart’s desire within you is made manifest. The Covenant makes it possible for your sacred heart to be fully aligned through the physical cells of your own heart. This is your time for the sacred of Self to be anchored through your heart. This forging through your heart is an essential aspect of the plan for your self-resurrection to unfold. The Christ energy also is manifested as part of this sacred synergy, and the resurrection energy is being held out to each one of you now. You can utilize and draw from the resurrection form by truly letting go, and allowing your own unique sacred resurrection process. The Christ has spoken of the essential need of the self-loving element to evolve within us, which encompasses the need for self-acceptance of the life we have lived. The frequency of letting go and acceptance exists within the resurrection form and is strongly mirrored within the Hologram that we, the Pleiadians are anchoring for you now. A next phase

As a human race, you are moving into a next phase of your potential on the Earth. Your original reason for being here is changing for many of you. This is a next step that many of you are ready to take to forge a new road. Humanity is requiring you to hold a different alignment frequency within you, so higher vibrations of

love can exist on the planet. These higher vibrations of love will enhance the potential for other human beings by creating a current that will begin to draw others to their own pathway of Self. Today is your time to thrive, to let go and turn back towards your self. Choosing to hold your self and move into “the moment” in a state of receivership. The sacred synergy of this, your unfolding, is here at last. The energetic form of the Covenant has come to ensure that you accomplish the goal of your unfolding. The timing is perfect for each one of you. There is a huge celebration in acknowledgement of where you have brought yourself so far. Now you take another step forward, moving consciously into a “next phase” on planet Earth. You open into another stage of the “new dawning’”on your planet. You begin with one step forward into “the moment.” As you do this, you claim another aspect of rejoining your spiritual heritage. In the past you never truly opened into any one moment. You were thinking of yesterday, tomorrow or worrying about something inconsequential. You have missed what was right in front of you. This was a natural outcome during your human experience of being in separation! Everything has changed, this is your time to step through the doorway into “the moment” and just Be. We present to you a simple process of entering and being in “the moment.”

PROCESS: BEING IN “THE MOMENT” STEP 1: Claim “the moment” as yours. This means

open your awareness into your experience. For example, open to the warmth of the sun, wind on your face, your physical connection to the chair you are sitting on or simply bring your hand to your physical heart. If you are holding a flower, bring your awareness into the flower and take a conscious breath. Placing your breath into the flower will bring   see Pleiadian on p. 20

your awareness deeper into the experience. Take another breath into where you find your self, and let go. Bring your awareness deeper again, just let go. Take any one of these examples to draw you, to align you deeper into “the moment.” You get to claim your “moment,” your self in “the moment.” Just allow the experience to unfold. STEP 2: You can then use a sacred sound that

will expand your multidimensional experience wherever you find your self. Bring your awareness into the space, then take a breath and let go. Place the sound where you find your self, and let go further. The sound is ASTAH EE — just use the sound once.

STEP 3: When you feel complete in “the

moment,” bring your awareness to your heart space, place your hands on your chest, breathe and let go. As you go through a series of multidimensional moments that you create with this process, your time on Earth will unfold. Through your experiences, you claim “the moment” and remember, you have said yes to this sacred process. Know that deeply within you is the understanding that this whole metamorphosis of unfolding is a self-resurrection process. You are to self-resurrect on this planet, and witness the emergence of your self-empowerment. This birth will create a current that flows through the Earth creating a new Form. This Form will umbrella out, unfolding into a sacred womb that supports the birthing of a new consciousness for all mankind. In a certain moment, the Earth will line up with all the sacred points within the Universe. At that juncture, there will be a mass awakening, a remembering. This is a pre-ordained happening that each one of you will play an essential role through the activation of your own process of being in“the moment” of your experience. This is the step of coming home. You do not navigate your way alone. This has never been the plan. However, the true power is in your hands, you get to choose to step forward and claim what is rightfully yours in “the moment.” We witness you in your unfolding. Blessings, The Pleiadians a

How I learned unconditional love by Linda Deer My family always had pets. As a child I loved animals! In 1982, I became a lifelong vegetarian. I had all kinds of pets continuously for 47 years. Now there were only two. Jaguar, 18, was an affectionate and loving cat. One day I noticed she was losing her balance and quickly lost consciousness. It was heartbreaking! We drummed for her journey to the spirit world. I had just lost six friends and now my beloved cat. But I had my dog Angel, my beloved guardian. I can honestly say that I have never felt such unconditional love from any person/pet ever. We were so close, and he understood my thoughts. When I overslept, he would awaken me. He would even bring me his leash. Now he, too, was failing. His back legs were very weak, and he had difficulty getting up. I said that if he couldn’t get up, that was the end. But I helped him, and he was still enjoying his daily one-mile walks. Then he started limping on his left front leg. I gave him Chinese herbs two times, and he no longer limped. He refused any food containing medication. When I removed the medicine, he ate voraciously. One day I thought he was passing. I sobbed and begged him to stay. He revived. Several weeks later, he slept for 16 hours. Again, I wouldn’t let him go, and he revived. He was still walking and eating. I said if he couldn’t walk, that was the end. Then three nights in a row he fell down after walking a block. His limp worsened and he could barely get out to potty. He got extreme diarrhea for two days. It was doctor time. Even though I have had many pets, I had only put one comatose pet to sleep. I discussed that possibility with Angel twice. I cried from the depth of my being, “I don’t want to do this.” He listened and turned his head away with tears in his right eye. I asked for a sign! An hour before the dreaded appointment, I pulled some dental floss from the container, and only a short piece remained. I thought, “The end, just like life.” I then turned the bathroom light on, and the bulb burned out. I thought, “The light went out — a

metaphor for the end!” I put on my blouse, and on the back was a reddishpurplish imprint of a face with two eyes, a nose, and a smiling mouth. I immediately felt it was Angel’s face saying goodbye. The time finally arrived. When my friends and I walked in, Angel lost his balance. The doctor said he didn’t appear to have cancer, although he had a “mass” on his spleen. They could do more tests, but they might not be definitive. Even if they were, they might not be able to do anything. He just didn’t have a “quality

of life.” We talked about how painful certain parts of his body were. I remembered he had tried to pass twice. He was staying just for me! The doctor talked of the gift of not having to suffer anymore. We agreed. Part of me felt stealthy in taking his life. He was trusting and put his life in my hands. But I also had talked to him and knew he agreed with our decision. We kept stroking him, telling him we loved him, and giving him cookies. He was happily chomping them down and wagging his tail. Then he just suddenly fell asleep. The doctor said, “He’s gone.” We drummed and released him to the spirit world. Later, during my drumming circle journey, he said he had wanted to go for a year and loved me very much. When I cut the cords between us, he shot straight upward, not wasting a second! He was finally free. When I turned on the car radio, “Where the Boys Are” was playing. The last line is “Someone waits for me.” I thought of Angel’s doggie family welcoming him home. Even though it was the hardest thing I have ever done, it was with the unconditional love Angel taught me that I let him go. RIP Jaguar, 3/26/16

RIP Angel, 6/15/16

Featuring this month: Greening our Bodies

Native Greening Spirit Leaves

by Janet Michele Red Feather Thank Heavens for a certain wise Mandan. I opened this month’s column with some very pedantic health tips. I read the initial draft to Cedric Red Feather, and he graciously reminded me to invoke the wisdom I’ve gained over years of involvement with the spiritual. In sharing this perspective, I’m not writing a how-to or positing rules for anyone. This way of life works for me; each must find his/her own way. Long ago, Cedric reminds me, everything Native people needed was readily available in Nature. The Original People were natural herbalists. Like Grandma in The Education of Little Tree, they had their “medicinals.” They knew which plants offered what relief, so there was no need to medicate with anything toxic to the body. They had their plants, herbs and natural foods like nuts, berries, buffalo meat and venison. When thirsty, they drank pure, clear water that came down from the mountains. They did not need alcohol. “If you don’t take in alcohol, you’re a lot better off. There’s no real need for it. It’s toxic for people. The Indians didn’t have anything like that to put them out of balance.” These words ring true, having been uttered by The Red Feather Man, a man clean and sober for 30 years. Before learning all of this, I had instinctively given up alcohol in 1990 when I began dancing at powwows. I thought, the last thing Indians need is someone drinking 22  www.edgemagazine.net

around them. Later, I would learn there’s a spiritual reason for abstention from alcohol — we know from our guides that they do not like the smell. As Cedric put it so aptly, “When people drink, the Spirits don’t like being around them. Those who drink a lot look dumb and empty, because the Spirits won’t come to them. It’s better to drink water, which is natural, or peppermint tea, a favorite beverage of the Mandans.” The Mandans I have met practice very natural means of maintaining peak physical condition during their earthly stay. The sweatlodge, for them, is instrumental in addressing all four parts of the person: mind, body, emotions and spirit. I recall many times having entered the quiet, dark, dome-covered space of the sweatlodge. I would feel anxious and poisoned from toxic foods and unbalanced people. As water was poured over the heated rocks in the pit, all negativities were sluiced away. Occasionally, I’d sense the gentle touch of healing Spirits inside the lodge. After four doors of beautiful songs and intense steam, I’d emerge cleansed, calmed and spiritually centered. The Mandans had great regard for the health of each person, especially during an individual’s later years. The Mandans, Cedric informed me, are the only tribe that reserved a distinct village for elders. As a sign of respect, tribal members would bring the elders tobacco they had grown in their own gardens. They would regularly bring them buffalo meat, fish and venison; in turn, the elders would tell stories. For Mandans, care and “greening” of the

body was a matter of lifelong devotion. “The body is born healthy; it gets old, and it dies. How you treat it in death is just as important as how you treat it in life,” Cedric instructs. “They would wash and wrap the body, place it upon a scaffold, and offer food for the journey.” Natural elements worked on it until it decayed and became one again with the river banks. Traditional People remember these things. Fortunately, some are generous enough to share a way of life they had sacrificed for and fought to preserve. Although Cedric and I are best friends, I have never forgotten that he is a Traditional person; so I still engage in the formal gesture of bringing him tobacco. It is in recognition of his role in fulfilling the prophecies, and an acknowledgment of his having spilled his blood so the people may live. I have gained much on my own from going in the sweatlodge; fasting upon the hill; dancing at a Sundance in North Dakota; and singing the sacred songs when asked to in various ceremonies. I have never forgotten, however, Cedric’s immeasurable contribution toward my living a more natural, more spiritually connected and independent way of life. a Janet Michele Red Feather, J.D., M.A., has taught literature and composition for 18 years at the university, state, tribal and community college levels. She is currently a tenured English faculty member at Normandale Community College. Janet enjoys her role as Ceremonial Singer for Native American ceremonies, singing traditional songs in Mandan and Lakota. She made a career shift into teaching after serving nearly eight years as a defense litigator in California. Her life changed significantly after she traveled to North Dakota in 1993 to fast and pray for a way of life. She welcomes correspondence at JanetRedFeather77@ gmail.com. Copyright © 2016. Sacred baths help decrease stress by Dr. Paulette Kouffman Sherman Life is full of ups and downs and most people report feeling stressed these days. According to the 2006 Stress & Anxiety Disorders Survey of the Anxiety Disorders Association of America, 72 percent of people who have daily stress and anxiety say it interferes with their lives at least moderately. Forty percent of people experience persistent stress or excessive anxiety in their daily lives. Most people need some time to be alone, to reset, center and relax. A sacred bath is a bath that includes essential oils, crystals, intention, meditation and prayer. It just takes 25 minutes and provides a most impactful experience that facilitates personal transformation. While a regular bath is for your physical hygiene, a sacred bath is good for your spiritual, emotional and mental hygiene. The following are five easy ways to de-stress by taking a sacred bath in the privacy of your own home: Essential oils: Essential oils have a very high vibration and   many experts say that they cleanse your aura, which affects what you attract. Also, some people say that essential oils enter the bloodstream and oxygenate your body, improving your health. Smell affects your emotional state through the limbic system, so essential oils can improve your mood and relax you. Deep Breathing: Deep breathing puts you into your relaxed   nervous system instead of the fight-or-flight nervous system that you are normally in when you feel stressed. This is a way to literally feed yourself oxygen and love. Deep breathing expands your consciousness and increases guidance. It’s a tool that you can use repeatedly to revitalize your body. It’s easy to spend the first few minutes in your sacred bath doing some deep breathing from your abdomen. This is very relaxing for most people. You can imagine breathing in peace and love and breathing out any stress. This process often creates a feeling of peace and well-being. Divine Support and Guidance: People often experience stress   when they feel helpless, overwhelmed and lack support. You can always ask for help from your higher Self or from the Divine. These are peaceful, loving energies. You can do a meditation in which you release your worries to them, allowing them to fill you with love and peace. Afterwards, if you get any useful messages you can journal about them. Epsom Salt: Epsom salt removes toxins and relaxes you. You   can soak in it and imagine all your worries going down the drain. Releasing Negative Thoughts: Worry consists of repetitive   negative thoughts that eventually affect your mood and physiology. Plus, they aren’t constructive. So, you can use your sacred bath

to release these negative thoughts and to replace each one with something positive. If you are thinking about something you cannot do anything about, then agree to just release it for today so that it doesn’t unnecessarily drain your energy. When you shift your thoughts to something positive, this affects your mood, stress level and physiology. I hope that these tips about the benefits of taking a sacred bath to address stress were helpful. Stress is common, but if you are having panic attacks or cannot address your chronic stress alone, please consider seeing a therapist. These sacred baths are a regular tool for wellness for high functioning people. They are not a clinical prescription for anxiety, which needs to be addressed within a psychotherapy treatment. a Dr. Paulette Kouffman Sherman is a licensed psychologist, dating coach and author of The Book of Sacred Baths (Llewellyn), Dating from the Inside Out (Atria Books) and others. She won 15 book awards and her books are translated into five languages. She’s a monthly expert in JDate’s JMag and on Eligible Magazine. She’s been an expert on television like the CBS Early Show & the AM Northwest Early Show and a radio guest on the Curtis Sliwa show, Pathways and others.
