Diagnostic Guide of Respiratory Conditions
Presentation of the book This book is focused on the diagnosis of transmissible diseases in poultry. It first outlines general concepts: collecting a history and laying the groundwork for diagnosis; obtaining information on the specific problem; observing clinical manifestations in the affected population; calculating morbidity, mortality, and lethality; obtaining representative samples for diagnosis; performing euthanasia in a way that ensures animal welfare; identifying the equipment needed for necropsy and sample collection; labelling and packaging samples for transport to the laboratory; and providing the appropriate information along with the samples. Each chapter addresses one disease. Each includes the aetiology and characteristics of the agent, the principal clinical manifestations and lesions; means of transmission; collection of samples for diagnosis; interpretation of laboratory results; and measures to prevent spread of the agent through the area. This guide highlights the reportable diseases for the OIE (World Organisation for Animal Health). It also contains many visual resources; photographs of clinical signs and lesions, tables of differential diagnoses of included diseases, and samples for the laboratory are all included. It also contains a bibliography for more information.
