‘Next Gen Designers for Design na Pele’ si è sviluppato in due fasi e in stretta collaborazione con l’Arsutoria School di Milano. Nella prima, curata dal centro ricerche tendenze e materiali Arsutoria Vision Lab, il progetto ha coinvolto 5 concerie brasiliane (Couroquimica, Fuga Couros, JBS Couros, Natur and Nova Kaeru) nello sviluppo e nella creazione ‘ad hoc’ di pellami innovativi. Nella seconda parte del progetto, 5 designer, selezionati da Arsutoria School all’interno del suo network internazionale di alumni, hanno utilizzato quegli stessi pellami per progettare una collezione esclusiva di borse o Arsutoriascarpe. School ha selezionato, infine, due pezzi per ogni capsule, trasformandoli in prototipi.
‘Design Na Pele’, through collaborations with designers and brands, both Ita lian and international, is committed to the development of design collections ranging from furniture to fashion to accessories, with a twofold and comple mentary objective: to promote leather Made in Brazil in the world of internatio nal design, and to receive creative and technological contributions.
In 2022, ‘Next Gen Designers for Design na Pele’ was developed in two phases and in close collaboration with the Arsutoria School in Milan. In the first, cura ted by the Arsutoria Vision Lab trend and materials research centre, the project involved 5 Brazilian tanneries (Couroquimica, Fuga Couros, JBS Couros, Natur and Nova Kaeru) in the development and ‘ad hoc’ creation of innovative lea thers. In the second part of the project, 5 designers, selected by Arsutoria School within its international alumni network, used those same leathers to design an exclusive collection of bags or shoes. Arsutoria School finally selected two pieces for each capsule and turned them into prototypes.

Alexandros Vasdekis is a Greek footwear designer with a deep love for sho es and a passion for nature. After graduating with a biology degree from the UK, he decided to pursue his life-long dream of becoming a footwear designer. He attended the prestigious London College of Fashion and Arsutoria School Milan, where he acquired designing and technical skills, which he then honed through his work experience as a footwear designer in Italy, London and Greece. For the past year he has been working as a footwear designer and consultant for a Los Angeles-based luxury footwear brand. Alexandros has participated so far at six international footwear design challenges and competitions, where has was either selected as the finalist or the winner. Biology remains his biggest source of inspiration, and through his designs he creates stories and raises awareness about environmental issues and unknown aspects of biology.

Alexandros Vasdekis è un designer di calzature greco con un profondo amore per le scarpe e una passione per la natura. Dopo essersi laureato in biologia nel Regno Uni to, ha deciso di perseguire il sogno di una vita: diventare un designer di calzature. What people crave the most nowadays are feelings of comfort and being at ease. And comfort can be found everywhere. A hug from your loved one, the touch of a soft surface or sitting on a puffy chair, can emit emotions of safety and reassurance. Nature always provides people with a form of escapism, enabling one to clear their minds, reduce their stress and feel a sense of comfort. Inspired by soothing man-made items, squishy living organisms, and the soft and airy leathers by Fuga Couros, I have created for this design challenge a footwear collection where each style comforts the foot in its own way. Soft and puffy elements, hug or touch the foot, to create warm feelings of relief and reassurance. Style and elegance are combined together, to create comfortable footwear for the feet, where comfort is not defined by the shoes’ height

“Oggi quello che le persone desiderano, sopra ogni cosa, sono le sensazioni di comfort, il sentirsi a proprio agio. E il comfort definisce molte cose tangibili e intangibili: un abbraccio dalla persona amata, il tocco di una superficie morbida, sedersi su una sedia soffice. Tutto può trasmettere emozioni di sicurezza e di conforto. La natura offre sempre alle persone una forma di evasione, che consente di liberare la mente, ridurre lo stress e provare un senso di comfort. Ispirato da rilassanti oggetti artificiali, morbidi organismi viventi e dalle ariose e soffici pelli di Fuga Couros, ho creato, per questo progetto di design, una collezione di calzature in cui ogni stile coccola il piede a modo suo. Elementi morbidi e gonfi, abbracciano o toccano il piede, per creare calde sensazioni di sollievo e rassicurazione. For several years, she worked as a luxury handbag pattern-maker developing exclusive designs for brands such as Burberry, Givenchy, Chloè and Victoria Beckham. In 2012 and 2013, she joined the team of pattern-makers at Divisione Industriale Calzature and Pelletteria at Dolce & Gabbana, in Incisa Val d’Arno. Currently in Brazil, Gisele is focused on developing creative projects and ma nual production in leather merchandise. In her studio, Mastri, she teaches, helps other designers and also develops her own pieces using the handbags con struction techniques she learned after her long experience in Italy.
She holds a Fashion Design degree from the Universidade de Caxias do Sul in Brazil. In addition, Gisele studied pattern-making for leather bags at the presti gious Alta Scuola della Pelleteria Italiana in Scandicci, Italy.
Attualmente in Brasile, Gisele si concentra sullo sviluppo di progetti creativi e sulla produzione artigianale di pelletteria. Nel suo studio, Mastri, insegna, aiuta altri designer e sviluppa i propri pezzi utilizzando le tecniche di costruzione delle borse che ha imparato dopo la sua lunga esperienza in Italia.
Per diversi anni ha lavorato come modellista di borse di lusso sviluppando design esclusivi per marchi come Burberry, Givenchy, Chloè e Victoria Beckham. The Mineral Mimicry capsule collection, developed by using peculiartextures and shades of the leathers from Brazilian tannery Natur, is inspired by the futuristic aesthetic of tech iridescence and it finds in nature the origin of this luxurious glow, which, in contrast, welcomes and comforts when approximates manual and craft work. From the sandstone formations to the lonely silence of the coastal dunes, the interaction between the sea, wind, sand and vegetation are the starting point for the creation of the bags in the collection. The organic approach take strength with the mimicry of structures, prints and textures, in their best variations of hardness, brightness and overlaps

Footwear design has captured her soul and she fell in love with products she has been lucky enough to create for the past 17 years while working for a va riety of companies. She had the opportunity to be part of the entire design and development process, starting from guest insights, trend research, design and finally, prototyping.
Masha immigrated to the US in the late 90’s from Belarus to complete a BA in Graphic Design at Iowa State University. After graduation, she moved to NY and was able to pivot her career into Fashion Design.
Being an immigrant in the US, she has always kept appreciation for other cul tures. She has traveled the world and lived in East Asia while running a de sign office. She is a designer that is constantly curious and passionate about the world around her. A sustainable approach to design and embracing the diversity of the people and cultures has been her driving force for inspiration. In 2018, she was able to travel to Milan and attend Arsutoria School while attaining the Footwear Collection Design diploma. After being a designer in the corporate world for a while, this amazing opportunity gave her a much needed creative re-boot and reminded her why she fell in love with footwear in the first place.

Masha è emigrata negli Stati Uniti alla fine degli anni ‘90 dalla Bielorussia per con seguire un BA in Graphic Design presso la Iowa State University. Dopo la laurea, si è trasferita a New York e ha potuto orientare la sua carriera verso il fashion design. Il design delle calzature ha catturato la sua anima e si è innamorata dei prodotti che ha avuto la fortuna di creare negli ultimi 17 anni lavorando per diverse aziende. This collection was inspired by the juxtaposition of feminine vs. masculine, organic vs. artificial elements, and how they can come together to create the idea of strength. The designer was interested in creating the statement of strength through geometry, texture choices, and the contrast of finishes. Creating visual texture was very important. She was able to layer the panels to create the armor-like effect for some of the styles in the collection while creating an organic cut-out openwork for the others. Showcasing beautiful leather from Couroquimica was critical to the final design. The natural contrast aesthetic of the two-tone leathers illustrates strong tension through texture and color. While the different surfaces and shades of black leathers showcase a contrast between the polished and matte finishing.

Questa collezione è stata ispirata dalla giustapposizione di elementi femminili e maschili, organici e artificiali e da come possono unirsi per rendere chiaramente un’idea di forza. Alla designer interessava creare un’asserzione di forza attraverso la geometria, la scelta delle texture visive e il contrasto delle finiture: per alcuni degli stili della collezione, sovrapponendo pannelli, si crea un effetto simile a un’armatura, mentre, per altri un traforo organico ritagliato. Mettere in mostra la bellissima pelle di Couroquimica è stato fondamentale per il design finale. L’estetica del contrasto naturale delle pelli bicolore attraverso la trama e il colore riesce a rivelare una forte tensione, mentre le superfici e le sfumature dei neri mostrano uno scarto tra finitura lucida e opaca.

Karisma is a budding Indian footwear designer. She has experience working in a fast-selling footwear range of a top retailer brand in India. Her graduation journey began at NIFT Shillong, India’s top University of Fashion Technology, which paved the path for her career choice as a footwear designer. She then gained valuable hands-on experience at ENSAIT France, where she pursued su stainable design for a semester.
She is currently pursuing her MA Design Innovation from De Montfort Uni versity to gain knowledge on starting her own enterprise. She aspires to be a Fashion Consultant guiding independent designers and entrepreneurs as they attempt to establish their brand & identity.
Attualmente frequenta un master in Design Innovation presso la De Montfort University per acquisire conoscenze sull’avvio di una propria impresa. Aspira a diventare consulente di moda per guidare stilisti e imprenditori indipendenti nel tentativo di affermare il proprio marchio e la propria identità.

La rarità della pelle “testurizzata” di Pirarucu ne definisce l’unicità. Il progetto “Nova Skin”, ispirato dalle incredibili pelli della conceria brasiliana Nova Kaeru, rappresenta una fuga futuristica. Una collezione capsule che esplora movimenti sommersi e li rende funzionali alla nostra vita quotidiana. Ogni design è moderno, coraggioso e fiero. Puntando su materiale e multifunzionalità le borse progettate sono davvero uniche, come il materiale stesso. Laura Giancola is a fashion, footwear, and accessories designer with a back ground in Fine Arts and printmaking. She conceptualizes and develops ideas through a variety of approaches, often inspired by art history and contempo rary design. Her collections combine visual and theoretical elements that inform each new direction. At École de la Chambre Syndicale in Paris, she studied tech niques in style development. She continued her education at Arsutoria School in Milan, where she studied footwear design, marketing, pattern making, and prototyping. With each new project, she brings an innovative approach to desi gn and integrates her life experience.

Concettualizza e sviluppa idee attraverso una varietà di approc ci, spesso ispirati dalla storia dell’arte e dal design contemporaneo. This project is based on Drawing No. 33 by artist and healer Emma Kunz, whose drawings represent the communicative event that mediates between objects, the human, and the non-human—between culture, nature, and the supernatural The shapes and lines extracted and manipulated represent the idea of the microcosm functioning within the macrocosm and vice versa, the idea of expanding and contracting, and the endless possibilities that lie in between. The objective was to create a capsule collection that accentuates the leathers provided by the Brazilian tannery JBS Couros through design. This has been achieved by combining different variations of the materials as well as using lines from the drawing to be printed on the leather.

Questo progetto si basa sul disegno n. 33 dell’artista e guaritrice Emma Kunz i cui disegni raffigurano l’evento comunicativo che media tra gli oggetti, tra l’umano e il non umano – tra cultura, natura e soprannaturale. Le forme e le linee, estratte e manipolate, rappresentano l’idea del microcosmo che opera all’interno del macrocosmo e viceversa; l’idea dell’espandersi e del contrarsi e delle infinite possibilità che risiedono nel mezzo. L’obiettivo era creare una collezione capsule che esaltasse, attraverso il design, le pelli della conceria brasiliana JBS Couros. Il risultato è stato ottenuto combinando diverse varianti dei materiali e utilizzando le linee del disegno da stampare sulla pelle.
