A godly response to the cry of the needy Mathew 25:35-26 “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink. I was a stranger and you invited me in. I needed clothes and you clothed me. I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me
Chairman’s Message What a joy for us to mark this milestone of twenty-five years of God’s goodness and faithfulness on the continuing journey of Edumed to transform lives and change destinies. When a few brethren gathered on 2nd August 1996 to deliberate on what was to become Edumed Trust, they were filled with hopes and expectations and no doubt some anxiety as to what the future held. Three of them Rev. Martin Mbandu, Dr. Solomon Mwangi and Mr. Henry Rugendo stayed the course and became the founding trustees of Edumed Trust. We salute them for their persistence and honour them for laying the foundation of the Trust on biblical basis with the LORD Jesus Christ as the Chief cornerstone. This firm foundation enables us to celebrate our Silver Jubilee and declare “Ebenezer, thus far the LORD has brought us!” (1 Samuel 7:12)
institutions. They have gone on to excel in their academic and career pursuits both within and outside the country. We celebrate them and their families. The Edumed Alumni has kept alive friendships formed, provided networks and the family bond. Our joy is seeing them increasingly involved in the Edumed affairs. There have been challenges as well. Key has been raising adequate funds to meet the operational needs of the Trust. Donor fatigue is real. We rely on volunteers for most of our activities but they are not always available. Our team of lean staff sacrificially give of their service but we are unable to adequately renumerate them or facilitate them to carry out some of their work. A few students over the years have also been dropped from the program for various reasons. This is always painful but necessary tough love. The vicissitudes of life whether they be economical, political, social, national or global have not left us unscathed. Thankfully God has graciously seen us through. We face the future with confidence by continuing to build on the foundation that was laid. We will focus on supporting livelihoods reducing beneficiary dependence whilst simultaneously releasing more resources to touch more lives. Leveraging on technology, establishing resource centre and schools are opportunities to be seized in our continued investment of the next generation based on biblical values. There is room for growing our endowment fund and existing partnership base.
A seedling planted but not placed on good soil, watered or nurtured dies. Thus, we honour the men and women who have sacrificially watered and nurtured Edumed since its inception as partners, trustees, executive board members, staff and volunteers. Their particular contribution may never be fully known or acknowledged but Hebrews 6:10 reminds us that “God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you I invite you to be a part of this fulfillhave helped his people and continue to help”. ing journey, to invite others, as we all together practically live out our Many have been motivated to journey on due faith. A Word from the Trust Secretary & CEO Although Edumed Trust marks its Silver Jubilee during a difficult season in the world, it is still a wonderful occasion to look back at God’s faithfulness
since the journey begun and give thanks for the milestone. As Isaiah 12:4-5 declares,” And on that day you will say, “Give thanks to the LORD, call on His name. Make known His deeds among the peoples; make them remember that His name is exalted.” Praise the LORD in song, for He has done glorious things; let this be known throughout the earth”. The year begun with an unusual school calendar as Form I to III’s resumed learning in school after a prolonged school closure in 2020 as part of Covid-19 pandemic containment measures whilst the Form IVs returned for their final term and to sit for their final exams. We saw God’s miraculous provision in meeting school fees for the students in spite of reduced funding. The Class of 2020 KCSE results released in May are a testimony of resilience as 16 of 19 candidates qualified for university admission while the other 3 qualified to join tertiary institutions raising to about 120 the number of
