On any given day during the summer months, visitors can enjoy live music performed by local artists and big name acts at nearly all of the 200 restaurants and bars, as well as resorts and entertainment complexes at the “Best Recreational Lake” in the Nation. And, two of the area’s biggest outdoor venues host legendary recording artists during their summer concert series. Shawnee Bluff Vineyard, located off Highway 54 at 8 Tolwood Road in Eldon, has for years hosted many nationallyacclaimed musical acts. The 2018 concert series at the sprawling 40-acre vineyard kicks off with “Chicks with Hits,” a concert featuring celebrated female country vocalists Terri Clark, Pam Tillis and Suzy Boggus on Saturday, May 12. On Friday, June 1, Shawnee Bluff hosts an evening of alternative rock heavyweights from the 1990s. Gin Blossoms, who dominated the ‘90s air waves with their pop singles “’Til I hear It From You,” “Hey Jealously,” “Allison Road,” and “Found Out About You,” will be joined by Tonic and Vertical Horizon. In Addition, the month of June sees several big-name country bands play the vineyard stage. Diamond Rio comes to the Lake of the Ozarks on Friday, June 8, followed by Steve Earle and The Dukes on Friday, June 22. Fresh meat and produce are among the big draws at the Goshen Market, which begins Saturday.

The return of Goshen Market For The Edge The Land of Goshen Community Market will celebrate its 22nd season in Downtown Edwardsville, Illinois this Saturday, May 12 from 8 am to Noon. Every Saturday, from the second weekend in May until the last weekend in October, the Goshen Market inhabits a one-block stretch of St. Louis Street - from Main to Second – as well as the adjacent parking lot and “Market Green” to accommodate the Market’s rapid growth. For two decades, the Market has provided a venue for area producers to sell locally-grown fresh fruit and vegetables,

annuals, perennials, baked goods, custom art, textiles, and a variety of handmade and homegrown items. Live local music, demonstrations, activities for kids, and even yoga classes are part of the weekly experience. The Goshen Market Foundation (the 501c3 created in 2016 to facilitate the longevity of the Market as well as pursue other local food and sustainability projects) has several exciting projects kicking off this Market season, including a Farm-to-School program launching at Edwardsville’s Lincoln Middle School and a Mobile Market making stops all over Madison

and St. Clair Counties. (Special thanks to the Edwardsville Community Foundation and Market Supporters for their generous support to the Mobile Market effort.) The Foundation will also be hosting its 3rd Annual “Burgers & Brews” event on Saturday evening, July 7, “Know Your Grower Day” on June 16, and, in the fall, a limited-capacity, localvore-inspired, sit-down Harvest Dinner. People planner Redbird Express returns to St. Clair Square

The St. Clair County Transit District (SCCTD) announced the return of the popular Redbird Express bus service from St. Clair Square for the 2018 St. Louis Cardinals season. Bus service will be available for all St. Louis Cardinals home games. Parking in Downtown St. Louis for games can range from $15-40 or more. In addition, St. Clair County Transit takes the stress out of game day traffic, bridge construction, parking, gas expenses and more, by allowing game goers to sit back and enjoy the ride to and from the game. Details on the 2018 Red Bird Express are available at www.ssctd.org. Busses will depart from St. Clair Square, near the water tower, 2.5 hours before game time as busses fill, with the last bus leaving one hour before the game begins. Fares are currently $5.00 per adult, and $2.00 for children ages 2 thru 12. Early departure from Busch Stadium is available once the bus fills up. “This program has always been popular with our Cardinals fans. It is so easy to get to Ball Park Village early enough to enjoy a beverage and a meal before the game, and the bus will be there, right where you left it, after the game,” said Chairman of St. Clair County Transit District Board Richard Meile. “We believe this program makes transit more accessible to the public. It allows riders to try our transit system they may not use every day, and see the potential for how transit

can positively impact their everyday commute. Getting people to the places they want and need to go is always the goal, and SCCTD can take them there,” said Meile. Ken Sharkey is the new Managing Director of the St. Clair County Transit District. Founded in 1981, St. Clair County Transit District oversees 11 MetroLink stations and 17 bus routes in St. Clair County, IL. If commuters have any questions about service, they can contact (618) 6288090 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday – Friday. For more information visit www.scctd.org.

People planner Caputo to appear at The Fox

Theresa Caputo, from TLC’s hit show, Long Island Medium, will be appearing live at the Fabulous Fox Theatre on Tuesday, June 26 at 7:30PM. Theresa will share personal stories about her life and explain how her gift works. She will deliver healing messages to audience members and give people comfort knowing that their loved ones who passed are still with them, just in a different way. Tickets go on-sale Friday, March 16 at 10AM and can be purchased at www.MetroTix.com charge by phone at 314-534-1111, and at the Fox box office. Tickets start at $43.25 (plus applicable service charges) and are subject to change. Purchasing a ticket does not guarantee a reading. “The Experience” brings Theresa face-toface with her fans, as she lets spirit guide her through the audience. A video display ensures everyone in the venue has an up-close-hands-on experience regardless of seat location. “The experience isn’t about believing in mediums. It’s about

witnessing something life-changing” says Theresa Caputo. “It’s like Long Island Medium live, witnessing first-hand spirit communication.” The highly-rated show Long Island Medium follows Theresa’s life as a typical Long Island wife and mom with one very big difference…she can communicate with the dead. Since she cannot “turn off” this gift, messages from departed loved ones can come through at any time, which lead to spontaneous readings with those she encounters. In addition to her television show, Theresa has appeared on such programs as “Jay Leno,” “Jimmy Fallon,” “Steve Harvey,” “Live with Kelly and Michael,” “Dr. Oz,” & “The Today Show.” Theresa’s latest book, “Good Grief: Heal Your Soul, Honor Your Loved Ones, and Learn to Live Again”, was released March 14th and debuted on the NY Times Best-Seller List at #3. With her energetic, positive, and encouraging tone, Theresa uses the lessons from Spirit to guide the reader through grief toward a place of solace and healing.

“Avengers: Infinity War”

May 10, 2018

QuickGlance Movie Reviews

The scale of “Avengers: Infinity War,” of course, isn’t a departure for Marvel. It’s an apotheosis. But is it possible to supersize what is already colossal? “Infinity War,” which brings together more than 30 significant characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe and enough spandex to clothe a small nation, is a little like launching an invasion after the war was already won. Despite assured dominance, Marvel has gone nuclear. “Infinity” is an interesting word for the Marvel machine, which sets much of its development pipeline a decade in advance. Never-ending is indeed how the superhero era of blockbusterdom sometimes feels, both to its fans and its critics. Even Steven Spielberg, who once said superheroes will eventually go the way of the western, recently signed on to produce a DC Comics film. But the title refers to the six “infinity stones” scattered around the universe, each conveying a power of sorcery, like the time-warping one held by Doctor Strange. They are dearly sought by Thanos, the indestructible Titan warlord, who rules over much of space but would like all of it. With all the McGuffins — er, stones — he can, with the snap of his fingers, wipe away half of the universe’s beings: a rapture to cull an overgrown herd, he envisions. RATED: PG-13 by the Motion Picture Association of America for “intense sequences of sci-fi violence and action throughout, language and some crude references.” RUNNING TIME: 149 minutes. ASSOCIATED PRESS RANKING: Two and a half stars out of four.

“Disobedience”

“Disobedience “ is a slow-burn drama that reveals its true self patiently to the audience. From director Sebastián Lelio (“A Fantastic Woman”) and based on Naomi Alderman’s book, the film is a measured and sometime tedious character study set in a small Orthodox Jewish community in North London about a woman coming home after years away. It’s a film that seems at first to be about one thing, but it transforms into something quite different and the journey is a compelling one. The audience entry point to this insular community is Ronit Krushka (Rachel Weisz), a cool New York photographer with a curly, long, slightly wild mane and an artist’s temperament. She gets a phone call in the middle of one of her portrait sessions, and spirals into a night of drinking and drunken pursuits before getting on a plane to London. Her father has died, and she goes back to mourn him in spite of their apparent estrangement, hurt that no one let her know he was sick. She arrives at the door of an old friend, Dovid (Alessandro Nivola), who, like everyone else she encounters from her past, seems surprised that she’s there. She gets a shock of her own, too, to discover that Dovid has married their childhood friend Esti (Rachel McAdams). Life has moved on without Ronit, and no one felt compelled to tell her anything. You do get the sense that it was Ronit who was the one who did the abandoning, leaving her father and the Orthodox lifestyle, which Dovid and Esti are wholly entrenched in. RATED: R by the Motion Picture Association of America for “some strong sexuality.” Running time: 114 minutes. ASSOCIATED PRESS RANKING: Three stars out of four.

“The Rachel Divide”

There’s a scene at the end of the Netflix documentary about controversial figure Rachel Dolezal when she enters a DMV and comes out a few minutes later with a new name. “A new start,” she says. The whole process seems painless and courteous. If only she could change other parts of her identity so easily. “The Rachel Divide” is a fascinating, comprehensive and well-crafted documentary about a one-time civil rights activist in Washington state whose life unraveled after she was outed as a white woman pretending to be black. Director Laura Brownson has masterfully unpacked and knitted together this complicated figure, who still seems to elude easy answers. Is she a calculating faker, a perfect symbol of white privilege? Or is she simply naive? This film says she can be both, just as Dolezal checks both white and black boxes on the hospital form to describe herself when her third son is born. Netflix has been criticized for giving a platform to Dolezal, who, as a media sideshow, has damaged the airing of actual racial grievances. But it is a film that raises serious questions about race in America and it gets some serious answers. Anyone tuning in hoping that Dolezal has something more profound to say about her personal journey other than she is “transracial” are out of luck. Rated TV-MA. Running time: 100 minutes. ASSOCIATED PRESS RANKING: Three stars out of four.

Movies Redemption found in “Kodachrome” By LINDSAY BAHR Associated Press The characters in the new film “Kodachrome ,” a good-natured if by-thenumbers road trip and relationship drama with Jason Sudeikis, Elizabeth Olsen and Ed Harris, are enchanted by the analog. Music is to be listened to on vinyl. Maps are to be read, and not by Siri, to get to a destination. Photographs are best on film. And face time is better than FaceTime when it comes to making amends for decades of bad behavior. It’s a little funny, then, that Netflix is ultimately the reason that audiences will be able to see “Kodachrome.” The company acquired the indie at the Toronto International Film Festival last fall and is releasing it to streaming customers on Friday. While it’ll certainly mean the biggest possible audience for “Kodachrome,” there’s also some irony in a movie about the death of a type of film being released on a service that more than a few are worried will be the death of another kind of film. Harris, who plays a famous photojournalist rushing against the clock to get some forgotten rolls developed, even has a heartfelt monologue about how “nothing beats the real thing” and how digital photographs are basically just “electronic dust.” His character doesn’t get into the topic of digital movies and streaming services, but, it’s so on the nose, it can’t help but trigger the thought. Not that the look of the movie is even all that classical or “analog” anyway. The images are smooth and pretty, but sanitized and, well, digital. But the intentions are sweet. I t ’ s b a s e d o n a 2 0 1 0 N e w Yo r k Times article by A.G. Sulzberger about the closing of the last processor of Kodachrome, Dwayne’s Photo in Parsons, Kansas, that inspired amateur and professional photographers to make a journey to the shop to develop their last rolls. The film, directed by Mark Raso (“Copenhagen”) and written by Jonathan Tropper (“This is Where I Leave You”) adds some stakes and drama to this, and even riffs on the fact that Kodachrome was also the title of a Paul Simon song by

making the lead, Matt (Sudeikis), a music producer. Matt is having a lousy day when we meet him, losing a big client and getting an ultimatum from his boss that he’s got to evolve and sign someone. It on ly g e t s worse when a woman he’s never met before, Zoe (Elizabeth Olsen), shows up to tell him that his father, Ben (Harris), is dying and would like to see him. Matt and Ben haven’t spoken for a decade, and their relationship was already strained and sour before then with the death of Matt’s mother and Ben’s general

absence. But now, with death knocking, Ben would like Matt to accompany him (and Zoe, who is his caretaker, but we’ll get to that later), on a road trip from New York to Kansas to get Ben’s film developed before the shop closes and he dies. Despite a lot of protesting, they make a deal with Matt and he takes off in a red convertible with Ben and Zoe. If you’ve ever seen a movie before, you can probably guess where this is going: Ups and downs and fights and reconciliation and a burgeoning romance all bubble up on their drive to the Midwest. This is a road that has been traveled before, many,

many times. And while this makes much of the journey predictable, not to mention the fact that the presence of Zoe, who doesn’t do all that much caretaking, is an offensively contrived and obvious plot device, the talented actors elevate the thin premise and make it worth watching — especially the end. Sudeikis, in particular, shines in this unusually dramatic role and exhibits a depth he touched on in films like “Sleeping with Other People” and “Colossal” but that he really gets to live in here.

Movies “Infinity War” is a delicious treat By ROBERT GRUBAUGH For The Edge The phrase “popcorn movie” has n e v e r b e e n m o re a p p ro p r i a t e t h a n when used to describe the first half of the end-all Marvel Movie experience “Avengers: Infinity War”. It illustrates the loud, colorful, explosive style of the megasuperhero mashup, but it also gives you an understanding for the slightest lack of satiety that you’ll have afterward. Like a hot, buttered tub with your favorite Jalapeño Cheddar seasoning, this movie isn’t good f o r y o u , b u t i t i s a d e l i c i o u s t re a t nonetheless. So indulge! It’s going to be impossible to review this film and still list all the cast members in my allotted space. There are more than thirty co-leads, i n c l u d i n g t h re e g u y s n a m e d C h r i s that handle some heavy lifting.

I’ll hit the high points only and do my best to keep the ensuing spoilers to the barest minimum. “Infinity War” is what the last dozen a n d a h a l f MC U mo v ie s s inc e 2008 have been building toward. T h e l i n k e d Av e n g e r s / G u a rd i a n s of the Galaxy/Black Panther u n i v e r s e s a re b l e n d i n g t o g e t h e r t o s t o p t h e t i t a n T h a n o s ( J o s h B ro l i n in the first of his two Marvel roles this year; he’ll play Cable for Fox i n “ D e a d p o o l 2 ” n e x t m o n t h ) f ro m completing his mission to cull half of all life on Earth. Thanos is about ten feet tall and has bright purple skin. Star Lord called him Grimace once and that really got me! He’s assembling the six Infinity Stones for his left-handed Gauntlet i n o r d e r t o h a v e A L L t h e p o w e r. Stan Lee’s Earth’s Mightiest Heroes are all that stand between him and that terrible objective. This movie is all about fanboy service. It pits the action on two

different settings - Wakanda and the Ti t a n h o m e w o r l d - t o p l a y p re v e n t defense. Stopping Thanos from getting Vi s i o n ’ s M i n d S t o n e a n d t h e mysterious Soul Stone leads to a few team-ups that keep the one-liner jokes flowing. Wa n t t o s e e R o c k e t b a r t e r f o r Bucky’s mechanical arm? Good. What happens when Hulk won’t rage out? Impotence humor! Need to answer the riddle of what would angry Teenage Groot trade Thor his left arm for? We get our answers. The narrative cohesion is best left described as a loose outline in which big personalities are left to shine in what is make-believe freeform. Over-constructed jazz music, if you will. There’s also pathos. Loki has a big moment before the opening credits. Gamora is film’s emotional anchor point.

S p i d e r- M a n d e s t ro y s I ro n M a n ’ s dry eyes with his most childlike line during the climax of the b a t t l e . But “Infinity War” is a Part One, ending on a bleak note. Most of your heroes aren’t still standing when the credits roll, but I’ll expect all of them back for the May 3, 2019 sequel. This includes Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel, who gets a surprise shoutout late in the adventure. “ Av e n g e r s : I n f i n i t y Wa r ” r u n 1 4 9 minutes and is rated PG-13 for intense sequences of sci-fi violence and action throughout, language, and some crude references. I give this film three stars out of four.

Weisz, McAdams shine in “Disobedience” By LINDSEY BAHR Associated Press “Disobedience “ is a slow-burn drama that reveals its true self patiently to the audience. She gets a phone call in the middle of one of her portrait sessions, and spirals into a night of drinking and drunken pursuits before

getting on a plane to London. And Weisz is wholly delightful as she teases and clashes with the conservative women and men who are horrified that she’s come back to disrupt their welldefined ways of life. There’s a spark of

anarchy about her, and she knows exactly how to push buttons, while still, ultimately being generally respectful to her old religion. One barn burner scene at a dinner table crystalizes why she had to leave. “Disobedience” is not, however, interested in providing much context for Orthodox ways, instead choosing to just immerse you in the experience. But there are more layers to Ronit’s surprise over Esti and Dovid’s marriage which the film takes its time in exploring, although anyone who has seen a trailer for the film will know where it’s going. Esti seems on the surface to be a devoted and proper wife, with a life of her own and a passion for her job as a teacher at a local girl’s school. She wears a sheitel in public, and removes it in the bedroom dutifully. This passionless routine is not a result of a dull marriage, however. Esti, it seems has a secret that Ronit’s return has re-ignited — she’s attracted to women.

And for Esti, who is very much like a child at times, there is only Ronit. The tension between them builds to a gorgeous crescendo over the course of an afternoon and into a heady day of escape. Their impassioned romance functions as much as a release for the audience as it does for Esti, who has been suppressing her true desires for so long. (There is one jaw-dropping moment between the two women that will probably get people talking, too. You’ll know it when you see it.) It’s at this point when the film shifts from being about Ronit and her grief and ostracization, to Esti and her desire for liberation, and not just from the community and her husband, but from her crippling fear of what God will think of her for her natural inclinations. McAdams and Weisz are on fire in “Disobedience” showing sides to their talents that we’ve never seen before in this truly unique film.

The Arts EAC exhibit crosses cultures By JULIA BIGGS For The Edge EDWARDSVILLE – Twentyseven years ago a young Japanese artist, Masaya Imanishi, from Nara, Japan, chose to spend a year as a visiting ceramic artist at SIUE. D a n B a r n e t t , t h e n a B FA student, and Richard Wehrs, a first-year grad student from Minnesota, befriended Masaya. Their shared experiences at SIUE led to a deep friendship that has flourished over the years. Their unique friendship a n d t h e a r t t h e y m a k e a re being celebrated in the next Edwardsville Arts Center s h o w, “ C r o s s r o a d s : a n Occasion for Friendship. Akishino Nara JapanE d w a rd s v i l l e I l l i n o i s . ” T h e show, which will feature the t h re e c e r a m i c a r t i s t s w o r k , opened Friday, April 27. Dan Barnett, curator of the exhibit, recalled when Masaya arrived at SIUE. “He spoke very little English,” he said. “We really connected from the get go,” Wehrs noted. A quick fish recipe for the summer By MELISSA D’ARABIAN Associated Press

Grilled fish is the official dish of summer around our house. There is nothing I love to eat more in warm weather than a piece of fresh seasonal fish cooked on the grill — the slightly sweet flesh offset by a tiny bit of char. You can use some fish from your freezer stash in a pinch, but ask at the fish counter what is seasonal and freshest, and you won’t regret the few extra dollars you’ll pay. I used Alaskan halibut for today’s recipe, but any firm white-fleshed fish will work great. (Skip the flaky thin fish like Dover sole for indoor cooking, or use a special fine-meshed metal grate.) Halibut is mild, tender and sweet, and it’s a fantastic lean source of protein. A 4-ounce serving has 24 grams of protein, a little over 2 grams of fat, and offers a nice showing of B vitamins and minerals, all for 120 calories. My go-to strategy for grilling mild white fish is to keep it super simple on the actual grill, and then top it with a quick sauce made from a few ingredients. Pat the fish dry gently, and toss on the grill with just a little salt, pepper and olive oil. Once the fish is cooked, I top it straight from the grill with the sauce. While the fish is cooking, whip up a sauce with a little acid (like lemon or vinegar), aromatics (like minced garlic, shallot or green onion), herbs, and a tiny touch of fat (like olive oil or butter). Pouring it on while the fish is hot makes the simple flavors come alive like Hugh Jackman playing P.T. Barnum. Grilled Halibut with Butter Caper Herb Sauce is an excellent starting point for mastering this easy fish-grilling blueprint that you’ll use both on weekends and busy weeknight meals. In under 20 minutes, you can have

GRILLED HALIBUT WITH BUTTER CAPER HERB SAUCE Servings: 6 Start to finish: 20 minutes 1 3/4 pounds of fresh Alaskan halibut fillet (or other firm whiteflesh fish), checked for bones 1/2 lemon, for squeezing 2 teaspoons olive oil salt and pepper Sauce: 2 tablespoons butter 1 clove garlic, minced 2 tablespoons capers, plus a

little of the juice 2 tablespoons lemon juice a handful of chopped tender herbs, like basil, parsley, or cilantro Heat a gas or charcoal grill to medium high. Scrub the grill grates with a wire brush or tongs and ball of foil to clean off burnt food debris, and lightly oil the grates. Squeeze a little lemon juice on the halibut and let it sit a few minutes before blotting it dry gently with a paper towel. Season the fish with a little

salt and pepper. Drizzle the olive oil over both sides of the fish, and use your fingers to coat the whole fillet lightly with oil. Once the grill is hot, place the fish flesh side down on the grill. Allow to cook about 5-6 minutes on the first side. Use a metal spatula to flip the fish to cook the second side, until cooked through but not dry, about 3-4 more minutes. (To help keep the fish from sticking, don’t flip it too soon, and flip the fish with a purposeful, quick motion.) Meanwhile, heat the butter

and garlic in a small sauce pan on the stove at medium heat until the garlic is aromatic, about 2 minutes. Add the capers with a little caper liquid and the lemon juice and whisk to combine. Remove from heat, stir the herbs into the sauce and then pour over the fish just as it comes off the grill. Serve. Dining Delights The Edge's own Bill Roseberry, famous for his You Gotta' Eat restaurant reviews, has put together his thoughts on a number of local eateries. Enjoy. 1860’s Hardshell Café and Saloon 1860 S. 9th St., St. Louis Soulard A great place to get some Cajun and Creole food and have a good time to boot. It’s split into two sides, with the dining area on one end with great items like crab legs, gumbo, po’ boy sandwiches, red beans and rice and wonderful crab cakes. The other half of the building offers a full bar and live entertainment. Lotawata Creek Southern Grill 311 Salem Pl. Fairview Heights Fatten yourself up at this joint. The menu is ridiculously huge and the portions are even bigger. Get your own plate of fries for a side, or a bucket of onion rings. It offers a creative sandwich portion of the menu and great southernstyle dishes, try the Mac Daddy Burger. You won’t go away hungry here, trust me. 1818 Chophouse 210 S. Buchanan St. Edwardsville This is a great place to grab a steak diinner, that is their signature dish. A good place for a fancy dinner date, the ambience in the dining area is fantastic. It offers extensive breakfast, brunch and dinner menu. Sybergs Old Dorsett Rd. Maryland Heights A St. Louis chain restaurant where you can’t go wrong. Check out their awesome selection of pizzas and hot wings and their house-made sauces are fantastic. Be adventurous and try the shark bites, they are delicious. Johnson’s Corner Restaurant 2000 State St.

Alton It’s a great neighborhood bar and restaurant. Sit at the bar and have a few drinks with a friendly staff and patrons. As for the food, get your hands on the best breaded pork tenderloin sandwich ever and check out the monster onion rings, too. Oriental Spoon 229 Sanatorium Edwardsville A Korean restaurant where you can’t go wrong. The Kimchi is very good as an appetizer and make sure to check out their bulgogi and bap selections. Make sure to ask your server about spiciness levels if you can’t handle hotness very well. Schiappa’s Italian Restaurant 402 S. Madison St. Lebanon A quiet pizzeria that offers plenty more than just pizza. Make sure to check out the great calzones on the menu. Wasabi Sushi Bar 100 S. Buchanan St. Edwardsville If you’re into sushi then this is a good place to check out. Choose from a big selection of rolls, from the California and spicy tuna rolls to great choices like the Batman and the Caterpillar. From unagi (eel), to sea urchin, salmon, shrimp and tuna, it has it all. Order the edamame on the appetizer menu. Joe’s Pizza & Pasta 4 Club Centre Ct. Edwardsville The sweet tomato sauce makes this place a treasure. There are plenty of pizza choices for toppings and even without their classic sauce. Check out the Sicilian to get an olive oil-based sauce, it’s good too. You can dine-in or get delivery here. J. Gumbo’s 3949 Lindell Blvd., St. Louis Central West End This is a chain restaurant, but it doesn’t feel that way. Check out the St. Louis

location at 3949 Lindell Blvd. to get some really good Cajun and Creole food quick and cheap. Make sure to check out the crawfish etoufeé. The menu does a really good job of informing you of spiciness levels. Joanie’s Pizzeria 2101 Menard St., St. Louis Soulard A stable in the Soulard neighborhood in St. Louis, this is a spot that offers great pizza and Italian dishes along with great drink specials and entertainment. Visit prior to a Cardinals game or other various events in St. Louis, eat dinner, and ride the free shuttle to and from the event. Los Tres Amigos 1011 Century Dr. Edwardsville The Jose Morales Taco is the highlight of this Mexican Restaurant. The deep fried goodness of the taco is topped off with Parmesan cheese to give it that special flavor. Check out the rest of the extensive menu for other great Mexican dishes, too. Wang Gang Asian Eats 1035 Century Dr. Edwardsville This is a hip, fun spot if you’re into Asian cuisine. It’s an Asian fusion restaurant that puts unique spins on classic Asian dishes. Check out the lettuce wraps, the fried calamari and the stir fry selections and don’t miss out on the restaurant’s own line of sodas which are also great. It offers some healthy choices, too. Brickhouse Tavern & Tap 2 McBride and Son Center Dr. Chesterfield This is a great place to take a date or have a good time with a group of friends. Fun and creative menu and huge line of beers on tap and in bottles. Enjoy your meal sitting on a couch in front of a fire. The real all-star here are the bacon and jalapenó deviled eggs on the appetizer menu.

The LuBar & Bistro 911 Fairfax St. Carlyle Pretty cool place to chill out and have a good dinner. The dining area is separated from the bar, as this establishment is split into two levels. The LuBar nachos are arguably the best nachos I’ve ever had and the pulled pork sandwich is a winner. Check out the full breakfast menu also and don’t forget to order some ice cream from the ice cream bar before you leave. Fazzi’s Bar and Restaurant 1813 Vandalia St. Collinsville Opa! You’ll probably hear this a few times here as patrons order the signature appetizer dish, Saganaki, consisting of breaded goat cheese which is doused in oil and set on fire. This Greek and Italian restaurant is very affordable and has some great choices, including the Mousaka. The gyro plate isn’t bad either. Roma’s Pizza 121 E. Bethalto Dr. Bethalto This is a treasure in Bethalto. Fantastic pizza, some of the best in the metropolitan area. Always packed so be prepared to wait, but it’s worth it. Make sure to check out the bosco sticks also. Mini Corral Hamburgers 1500 Main St. Alton Small shack that serves great mini burgers, French fries and onion things. Nothing special on aesthetics, get your food in a greasy white box but its been a staple in Alton for a long time. King Louie’s Drive-In S. 6th St. Wood River This is an old-style drive-in restaurant where you can still order your meal from you car. Great burgers and fries and make sure to check out the fried cauliflower. Their root beer soda is also fantastic. There is also a dining area where you can go inside.
