What is the history of the Winnipeg Jets?

Orion’s Seafood Bus
The Seafood Bus will be here this weekend, Saturday and Sunday, April 22 and 23. He will be parked up at the Crossroads Esso and Market. If you like seafood, you will love the products on the bus. Prawns, scallops, sole, salmon, mussels, crab cakes and so much more to choose from. He has a 3 for $50 deal that is awesome. The smoked salmon and bacon-wrapped scallops are delicious.
Hospice Fundraisers
Remember that both the Hospice Gala and the Hospice Golf Tournament are happening this Saturday, April 22. Get involved if you can. It is a good organization.
Earth Day
April 22 is Earth Day. There are different themes to commemorate this day each year in Canada. In 2018, the focus is on “consuming less” and “playing more.”
Earth Day falls on a Sunday this year, which will make it easier to “consume less” since so many local businesses are closed. This community never has a problem “playing more.”
With spring in the air, it should be a great
day to take the (grand) kids to a playground, hit the fairway, walk the dog or stroll your favourite route. Take a moment to appreciate this beautiful patch of Earth we call home.
Pronouns

Free Food Pantry
This is a great program for some of the many struggling families in the Invermere area. It is a 24 hour/7 day cabinet beside the road that anyone can fill or empty at any time. We need more fillers or some funding to help keep it sustainable. I dream of 25 people donating $20 each or 5 donations of $100, or even one hit of $500. That would fill the store room nicely for a couple of nights.
I do thank the folks who put food into the cabinet and those who have donated some money. It is not a very high profile but it is very satisfying. You will find the Pantry at 1313 10 St. in Invermere. Please support the community, I really need more help with this.

Raised Garden Beds
Raised beds are a great way to do your gardening. It makes it so much easier to organize your planting. I began my ‘career’ with a raised bed at Groundswell and it got me hooked in pretty good. The soil is very critical.
Steve can build you a custom raised bed to fit any space you need to fill. He can do a standard 4’x8’ bed or shape it to meet your needs. Give him a call at 250-3411965. He can do any handyman work that you might need.
4:20
This Friday is April 20, or ‘4:20’ in cannabis culture. With the upcoming legalization of recreational cannabis and the current legalization of medical marijuana, this April 20 will be busy.
The term 420 began in San Rafael, California as a group of guys met at the same time everyday to partake and search for a hidden crop. The band ‘The Grateful Dead’ helped the term become more popular. Anyway, now it is known around the world as a term referring to cannabis use. In Vancouver, Toronto and other larger centres there will be huge gatherings to celebrate at 4:20 pm on April 20. In Invermere and the Columbia Valley, I am guessing there will be a few smaller gatherings.
Seventeen years ago it was pretty easy to write this column. I had lots of fresh thoughts in my head. It was a lot of fun observing the feel of the valley. Now, after years of isolating health issues, combined with crazy non-scientific health mandates, it is a bit more difficult to come up with some good positive thoughts. This is my second attempt with the first one being full of ranting. I have had to rethink that.
It is important to realize that everyone can have different opinions and you have to accept that. I find it interesting but sad that many old friends do not want to talk to me anymore as we have so many different opinions. That should not affect anything. I will always push my truth. Live a healthy lifestyle and your immune system can fight off nearly anything. Fresh air, exercise, healthy eating, vitamins, lots of water and lots of rest are all good for you. Your own good health is within you, not within a needle that is making billions of dollars to corrupt pharmaceutical companies. Do not think our government is out to save us. They are waging a war against farmers which will continue to cause a rise in groceries. Just pay attention everyone.
Dark Pun
Last week the power went out in my house. I re-fused to put it back on.
Game is Over
So I see that mask and vaccine restrictions are lifted in health care facilities. That is nice but they sure played that lie out for a long time. A lot of people suffered due to their policies.
Gardening
We are still getting frosts at night so it is a touch early for most outdoor crops. There are a few early starter such as lettuce and radishes that might have a chance. I have started a few tomato plants indoors. My peppers never did germinate. I have a tough time with them every year. Lots of real gardeners have plenty of seedlings growing indoors, waiting for transplant. That is a wise way to get a start. My garden is cleaned up and ready for some horse manure. It would be nice to get some good old horse poop blended in there for nutritional value. I am still a total rookie at all of this but it is fun.

Watson’s Waddle
So Rob is healing up pretty good. He is able to go for short walks with us up and down the street. He is getting back to doing some of his own paper deliveries and that means a walk downtown. We like that one as it involves a few treats from the businesses. People in this town are very friendly and seem to like dogs (how can you not like dogs, especially cute Bassett hounds).
A few more weeks and he will be healed from the cracked femur and a couple more months for the heart stuff. Hopefully that puts us out on more fishing adventures and maybe even some hiking. I believe one of his goals is to get out into the bush more.
We loved hanging out when he was building his little ‘shelter’ down near Toby Creek. We had free reign of a lot of territory. It is still a favourite walking area. It is too bad he hurt himself then as we were walking into there nearly every day. It was just a little cheesy dome covered in boughs but it was still pretty cool. Four months and some snowfall later has knocked it down a bit and it should be flooded out soon but it was still a great experience.
We are anticipating finding a new spot and spending some time doing a nice dugout shelter with a built in fireplace. That will mean weeks of roaming the bush for Drew and I. We find anything like that very stimulating as it is a change from the home routines.

Lazy Mistake
I received a note from a reader stating my dates were wrong in the ‘What Year Was It?’ column last week. AS it turn out she was correct. I stated indoor smoking as banned in 1996 when in fact it was 2005 in Canada and 2008 in the States. I will have to go back to the original website to see where I went wrong.
Canadian Sports Trivia Answer
The Winnipeg Jets started out in 1972 as part of the World Hockey Association. In 1979 they were absorbed into the NHL and They have come back into the league as the former Atlanta Thrashers.
Fishing Season
We are just about there folks. The main lake is ice free and the smaller mountain lakes are beginning to follow. I love getting out to the small, pristine lakes in the valley. Currently my fishing boat is off the trailer upside down as there are a couple small leaks in it. I have to figure out some kind of sealant and then get it back up on the trailer. Then there will be hours of pleasure and peace sitting on the water.

Preparations
Dialysis is very redundant. Every second day I am hooking up to a blood-cleaning machine for 4 hours just to stay alive. To most people, dialysis is just some medical word and many confuse it with diabetes. But those who have come for a visit have seen a different story. You are invited anytime.
The days in between are all about prepping for the next day. It takes about an hour of my day to be ready for the next day’s dialysis. So basically I am doing medical stuff every single day. It seems very repetitive.
Riddliculous Answers
(From page 2) Big Ben, baby boomers, bell bottoms, bad breath.
Opportunists
I have a lot of friends who have been here for me through all my issues. I really appreciate them and may not let them know properly, but I do my best. But I also have the odd ‘friend’ who will only help me out if they think there is something in it for them. That is not helping, that is a working relationship. I am also having a few issues with bartering. I have given many businesses and individuals some good breaks and deals on their ads but when it comes to me needing service from them they act all confused and say they did not realize the deal. They just thought it was all free I guess. So you might see a few ads disappear out of The Valley Peak over the next few weeks as I get things together.
Weather Adventures
I tried to catch fog the other day. Mist.
Integrity
I often wonder how much money it takes to buy off an authority. When I watch the work done by the College of Physicians or Health Canada banning things like Ivermectin and taking away licenses of honest doctors who have been telling the truth, I wonder what it is worth to know you are helping cause sickness and death so a pharmaceutical company can profit billions of dollars. What is that worth?
Politicians, media, police, health systems and more working together for the benefit of the ‘elites’. I wonder how far into our local economy the payoffs have gone. Oh well, I guess. That is just the way it is in Canada these days.
It Was That Year
(From page 4) In 1957, the peak of the birth of the baby boomers, a house cost $12,200, a car was $2,800 and the average annual income was $4,550. The Brooklyn Dodgers moved to Los Angeles, radar guns were introduced and Humphrey Bogart died of cancer.
On the Mend
This healing process is taking forever. I think I am about 12 weeks post-surgery now and it is still a day by day adventure. Some days physio is easy. The next day it is tough and painful. It is the same with walking. I try to go a bit further each day but some days I can barely get out of a chair. I have to keep working at this to heal up properly. It is a tough road. I have been house bound for 8 months now with the heart and the femur.
Bank Troubles
I see a few banks have been shutting down around the world, including the Silicon Valley Bank, a huge American one. Those conspiracy people are saying that all of the banks are about to fail. As they are seemingly correct 100% of the time, I am tending to believe that. There is too much money printed without the gold to back it up. It is actually worthless and is one of the main causes of our inflation.
Prices rising have nothing to do with Russia and Putin. It is all policies being put in place by Biden and Trudeau. And it is so obvious if you avoid the news. ‘Trump bad’, ‘Putin bad’. They cause everything.

out on a Kootenay Kritters adventure. This one is from up near the Windermere Wells (Twin Lakes). It is a nice little walk into the lakes.
I’m Just Not Getting It
The news is so painful for me to watch. It just highlights bad stuff. The first half of every news show is all crime, terrorism, politics and other depressing stuff. It is just not good for me to see that stuff over and over again. Did I say politics? Haha. Now there is a joke. A bunch of self-serving, money and fame seeking, self-promoting folks who show little actual concern for the average citizen. Just more taxes and less services for the people. Our system needs to change completely. I don’t know the answer but there has to be a way to get honest people in there.
I also don’t understand the money made by athletes and entertainers. It is so out of line with the average, hard-working individual who has to watch these folks live in luxury. Am I crazy? Yes. But I live in a crazy world.
