I sat in the garden area while in hospital for pneumonia. It is beautiful and really make a difference for me. It will be incredible for all the patients in Columbia House and the hospital (and anyone else really).

What is friendship? What can a person expect from their friends and what should a person give to their friends? That is a huge question in my life these days.

Three years ago I felt I had a lot of very close friends in this valley. Everywhere I went I saw people I knew and loved to be around. I felt this was the place I was meant to be.

Two years ago, when my kidneys failed, things were pretty bleak. If I wanted to live I needed dialysis and that was only available in Trail or Cranbrook. Every doctor, nurse, family member and social worker suggested I move to a larger centre.

And I fought that concept with tooth and nail. Anything to get back to the Columbia Valley where all my friends and my great life were.

So I have eventually been set up with a home hemodialysis unit which allows me to stay in Invermere and carry on with my amazing life.

But as it turns out, that is no longer my life.

I am pretty much trapped in my home either doing dialysis or waiting to do dialysis.

And my friends have really stepped back.

The world is too busy to bother with me. It turns out that most of my friendships were based on me getting out and about. It seems visiting me on dialysis is a creepy concept. I can be a bit depressing.

I have had some unexpected support from some new friends and my Church family and really appreciate it but overall it is a lonely, lonely world for me.

I can’t imagine the loneliness of many seniors in our community. Get out there and do some visiting folks.

Parting Ways I do not burn bridges! I just loosen the bolts a little bit every day.

Watson’s Waddle I am not sure where we are in the seasons but I really love this latest weather. Cooler in the mornings and evenings with some nice sunshine during the day. Rob and I have some nice morning walks with lots of fresh scents and everything is very quiet. I am sure people can hear me barking for blocks, We meet lots of nice dogs (and people) on our morning walks. Everyone seems to be in a good mood once they get out and get moving. Even Rob picks up his game a bit.

Things still get pretty warm during the day so that is my time to catch up on my napping. Some nights I only get 10 or 11 hours of sleep and I have to get caught up during the day. If I am not eating, walking or being rubbed, then sleep becomes my priority.

For a dog, wanting a nap before or after another nap is pretty standard.

And then the cool evenings. That is a great time to get out for a walk and some visiting. We have a great street with some friendly dogs and their owners. The evening walks are filled with even more scents and fun.

I guess I really love most seasons. They all have something to offer.

My Progress

YUK YUKS ON TOUR FLATS VENUE & STAGE SATURDAY, AUG 31

I haven’t put much into this article the past few weeks as things are pretty stable in my cancer and kidney world. Dialysis is keeping my blood clean enough to keep me going but it definitely has not regenerated all my super powers from the past. It is still hard work to do anything.

As for the multiple myeloma, I am not ever sure what is happening with it. I go a few months between blood tests and meetings.

That is all coming up in the next couple weeks. Basically I have 3 weeks of dread and worry until that all happens.

Getting over the pneumonia has been tougher than I thought. I have never had it before but apparently it is something I have to watch for on a regular basis as my immune system is always struggling a bit. I have to be careful with a lot of things in my life.

I guess I wish I was able to get out and about more. This dialysis every second day is definitely dragging me down. I am feeling like I am not making any progress at all.

Love It Dance like nobody is watching but text and email like it will be read in court one day.

So Unsure Every week as I get near completion of The Valley Peak I go through a huge amount of self-doubt about the issue. I always wonder what I have completely missed or if I have put in some incorrect information.

I have to remind myself that none of this is life or death. That has been much easier with all my health stuff going on. I hope you enjoy this issue.

I have never really been that person with huge hopes and dreams. I am usually pretty content with the amazing life I have led.

Lots of time with nature, fishing and camping plus a bit of golf (to keep myself frustrated haha).

But that has changed. I hope for a kidney. I have been asked what people should pray for specifically for me. Please pray that the doctors think I am healthy enough to qualify for a kidney and that I can move forward with that. And pray for a kidney to present itself.

That is my selfish hope and prayer.

Otherwise it is the bus. Please pray that I can come up with the resources to obtain a bus and load it with dialysis machines so I can change the lives of so many patients that are stuck near a dialysis unit for the rest of their lives.

A mobile dialysis unit that can take patients on adventures or at least meet them camping or whatever would be amazing and would change the world for so many people. For me that would be something worth living for.

I was walking past the Invermere Thrift Store this past Monday. A sign on the window stopped me in my tracks. I know how successful the Thrift Store is in raising money to donate back to the care, comfort, safety and medical needs of our community but there it was in print.

Since 2001, the total is $2,276,151. Every year the amount has gone up and last year it was $454,527. That is a lot of money and it is all through the Thrift Store ran by volunteers and organize by the Invermere Healthcare Auxiliary Society. What a great community we live in!

I am not really sure how much of this stuff I want to put out there. I will say it really sucks having to do dialysis every second day with prep on the days between.

Knowing there is really no light at the end of the tunnel as far as going away on a trip or going camping does wear on me.

Combine that with multiple myeloma which can come back strong at any time and I find myself constantly wondering/worrying about it.

Even worse is that I ‘look good’ when I do get out so no one really understands any of what I am living through. Well maybe a couple other patients with similar issues. I have met one so far.

I have a couple friends who will listen and give me a hug. It helps for a bit. I look forward to seeing them. I guess it is something.

For an opportunity to view a pretty little waterfall and Kokanee Salmon spawning in the falls, drive North of Radium about 25 minutes on Hwy 95. Take a left turn onto Brisco Road. Stay to your right at 2 intersections. First, after crossing the railroad tracks at the Brisco Wood Preservers and second after crossing a cattleguard at the junction with Steamboat Mountain Road and Brisco Road.

Travel approx. 5 km to the small wooden "Klikwallie" bridge and park here. The short trail to the Brisco/Salmon Falls is off on your left side, just after the bridge.

View the little Kokanee Salmon returning to their place of birth to spawn in the creek at this bridge in Sept to Oct annually.

Important Notice Industrial Park Transfer Station Hours of Operation Starting July 4th, 2019 the Invermere Transfer Station will no longer be open 7 days a week.

The District will be operating a pilot project that will see the Invermere Transfer Station fully supervised and operated on set days and hours of operation.

The Station will be open as follows: Thursdays to Mondays 7AM to 7PM including statutory holidays

Closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays Site staff will direct users to bins available for use.

This site will only be used to drop off household waste.

Furniture, appliances, contractor waste and yard waste will not be accepted at this site.

Only waste in residential bags that will fit through the bear resistant lids will be accepted.

The Transfer Station will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday.

All users will be required to take solid waste to the Columbia Valley Landfill located on Windermere Loop Road.

The Columbia Valley Landfill is open 7 days a week 9am - 6pm.

Household garbage is free.

Pay it Forward There is a gentleman in Cranbrook that has quite the story. Was a business owner in the Okanagan, then in a car accident in the States and lost everything due to medical expenses. Everything.

Ended up in Cranbrook hospital and released homeless.

He is making a difference as he has developed a free meals for anyone plus he has been finding shelter and more for people that are struggling in Cranbrook.

Part of it is his ‘Pay it Forward’ program where we can prepurchase meals for hungry folks. Check out Arbys’s in Cranbrook, The Koffee Kan in Marysville and I believe Patio Lanterns at the Days Inn in Cranbrook.

It is an incredible program that is making a huge difference in that community.

He has also started ‘Hamper Boxes’ around the community where people can add or take food as needed.

Variety and Competition Every business wants to be successful. It only makes sense. But does every business hope for the success of others? I believe not, but they should.
