Super Bagpipes The Arcana Kings are playing the Canal Flats Venue & Stage during the holidays. Johnny McCuaig and the rest of the Kings really rock out the stage every show with incredible bagpipes. Of course my favourite is their cover of AC/DC’s ‘It’s a Long Way to the Top if You Want to Rock and Roll’. It rocks. The Flats Venue is a splendid place to party. I have attended a couple of fun, sold -out events there. I am thinking this shall be another. Call 250-270-0134 for ticket information (ad on page 3).
Riddliculous A man walks out into the pouring rain with no hat, umbrella or anything else to cover up with, yet he didn’t get a hair on his head wet. How is this possible? What is the only thing you can put in a bucket that will make it lighter? What gives you the power to walk through walls? See page 9.

Woo hoo! The last Robservations of 2019! Two weeks off from writing. A nice relief. Thanks to everyone who reads this stuff and mentions it to me. You are inspiring. Here are a few of my thoughts on living in 2020 with some happiness. Be nice to everyone. It feels great. Eliminate some negativity from your life. It is crazy how many folks will complain endlessly about things that have no relevance in their lives. Complaining about something without offering a solution is really just whining. Increase your positive thoughts. We all live a million miracles every day; we just don’t see them. I live in a house with hot water and food. That’s pretty awesome really. Do daily random acts of kindness. Making a bit of a difference in someone’s day can make a huge difference in your day. Forgive it. Just let those bad things go. Love people, not objects. A new friend will bring you a lot more joy than a new toy. As will an old friend. Continue reading The Valley Peak. It’s always good for a smile. Have a great Christmas and holiday season. See you in 2020!
Roll Call What do you say to Santa when he is doing attendance at your school? Present.
Friday Tasting This Friday, December 20, the tasting at Copper City Liquor Store will be from Gillespie’s Artisan Craft Distillery in Squamish. All products are made from BC grown grains and fruits. Get festive with the ‘Boozy Baubles’ of gin in various flavours. Have a great holiday season.
Inspiration Shout Out A shout out to Shelley and Mark who sent me an incredibly positive, detailed email regarding The Valley Peak. It seems they actually enjoy reading it every week, cover to cover. I have written nearly 750 issues now and believe me, it gets quite cumbersome. I often wonder if it is worth it. Especially as it is pretty weak financially. Anyways, thanks for the inspirational note and thanks to everyone who reads this little adventure of mine.

Watson’ Waddle This is a crazy season. You folks call it Christmas. There are bright lights, strange songs, loud noises, weird decorations and characters everywhere. People even bring trees, my favourite peeing places, right into their homes and businesses. I seem to recall last year that a new bed and a couple of toys came into my life around this time. I wonder what will happen this year. Rob has been pretty good. He knows that sudden movements and noises startle me so he lets me stay pretty close to him when we are out and about. Everyone seems to have treats these days and I would love to eat them all but Rob seems to claim the baked goods while letting me have the doggie treats. People seem pretty cheery and get out to visit a lot. They seem to enjoy each other’s company a bit more these days. Please pay attention to your pets through the holidays. It can be a scary and stressful time. Remind us that we are cared for with a little scritch or a friendly few words. It will make a huge difference to your pet. I hope everyone has a woofderful New Year. If you want to add love to your life, get a pet. Take care of it properly and your heart will fill to capacity. Really.

What Year Was It? Russia put the first man into space and the first spacecraft onto the surface of the moon. ‘The Wonderful World of Disney’ debuted, as did ‘Mr. Ed’ and ‘The Wide World of Sports’. Wayne Gretzky and I were born, Barbie’s ‘Ken’ was introduced, the Berlin Wall was constructed and Pampers sold the first disposable diapers. What year was it? See page 10.
Treatment What is an ornament’s main addiction? They usually get hooked on trees.

Mental Health
FIREWORKS CHRISTMAS EVE 8 PM WILMER
This is a tough time of year for a lot of people. There appears to be so much joy and happiness around us that we often forget about those that are less well off, ill, lonely, grieving and more. Many people go through incredible stress this time of year trying to make others happy. We can really extend our finances this time of year. How far into our extended families do we have to go with gifts? My family lost my father around this time of year so we all have a bit of emptiness at Christmas. He loved Christmas. We are happy to see each other and share a few hugs (well I am anyways). A lot of folks could use better support than stuff from a store. Help with a utility bill, bring over a meal, drop off some firewood, shovel a driveway, or just stop in for a visit to check on your friends. Love people with your heart and soul, not your wallet. That will help reduce your stress and bring joy to others. Don’t worry about the perfect gift. That is nearly impossible. Just show love and gratitude and look for chances to be kind. Merry Mental Health folks.

My Progress So I was supposed to have my 6 month meeting with my oncologist last Friday. It had been a couple weeks since the bloodwork and I want to know where I am at with my cancer. It seems like it is not as important to him as the appointment was postponed to Monday. Three more days of wonder, maybe even dread. This stuff is definitely the cause of some of my night time panic attacks and it costs me a lot of sleep. But hey, what can I do but wait and hope? I can’t seem to regain my strength. It has been more than a year since chemo finished but with no kidneys, healing is just so slow. I may have to do a bunch of consecutive days of dialysis to get caught up on some of the toxins. I have had very high creatinine (a muscle byproduct and toxin) since this all started. Even after dialysis it is still very high and that causes muscle fatigue. A few consecutive days might bring it down, I shall have to see. I hope you are all doing well with your health issues.

Riddliculous Answer The Thrifty Reporter Boy, did 2019 go by fast. This is my last Thrifty Reporter for this year. I would like to thank Rob for publishing it in the Valley Peak. I would like to send many thanks to all the people who have donated such awesome items for the Thrift Store to sell. I love going for a store visit to see what’s new on the shelves. It is because of the donations that makes the Invermere Thrift Store so successful. Please remember over Christmas the store will NOT be open so donations will NOT be accepted between December 23 and January 1, 2020. This is the Thrifty Reporter signing off for this year and wishing everyone a season filled with family, friends and special memories.

I read a great note from a lady who did all her shopping here in the valley and is very happy with herself. She notes the excellent service, the unique items and the joy of knowing that she has supported our community while finding gifts for her friends and family. And you know the rest. The money stays in the valley for respending, someone might get hired locally, all that stuff. It is a wonderful thing to take the time to get to know and support our fellow community members.

Are your pets getting enough healthy care? A lot of dogs get a bit neglected through the winter season as it is tougher to get motivated for a walk. I know that with my health issues I definitely don’t get Watson out enough. And he is good at looking at me all sad. Kootenay Kritters has been the answer for us. Jen grabs Watson every day and takes him for a good adventure. It is especially important on dialysis days as I am trapped inside the house for about 5 hours. She makes sure he gets some exercise. A lot of dogs get a bit hyper and into mischief when not out burning enough energy. Others get depressed. Kootenay Kritters is the solution. 250-755-6334.

5 Tips to Happy Holidays The holiday season can be very stressful. We often tend to lose focus on the things that are really important. Here are a few helpful tips. Turn off the news. It’s bad. Be in love with everyone and everything. Remember that the best things in life are not things at all. Donate, give away or recycle any and all clutter. Take a break from everything. A real break. Hopefully you will have a chance to try any of these tips and reduce your seasonal stress.

December 19, 2019-January 8, 2020 New Year’s Lobster The Rocky River Grill is hosting their traditional Lobster Dinner on New Year’s Eve. A delicious way to finish off 2019. The single course is $28 with options for some tasty add-ons. Enjoy dinner. Enjoy life.
Merry Christmas With this being the last issue of 2019, I must take this opportunity to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas. This is a wonderful time of year to show the ones you love that you care about them. Get together for a coffee, a nice meal, a bit of eggnog or to sing a few carols. You can exchange gifts (if that is your thing) but more importantly, just sharing some time together is a great way to celebrate. Personally, I would rather have you spend an hour with me than an hour looking for a gift for me. It is all about love and fellowship and family. Remember that some people aren’t as well off as we might be, so offer a helping hand wherever possible. Remember the Christ in Christmas.

Sweet Treats A buddy dropped off some homemade butter tarts and Swiss Christmas balls on the weekend. They were amazing. It was difficult not to eat them all at once. Very much appreciated. Remember your single friends out there. They don’t get to experience Christmas the same way as a family would. Share the treats. Share the love.

Be It Resolved Happy New Year everyone! I am happy that we got through 2019. I was wondering about that for myself at times. It has been a crazy year that went by very quickly. What will you be resolving on New Year’s Eve? People love to make resolutions to change their lives. Personally, I have never found it to work very well for me. I am more likely to reflect on last year and try to highlight my highlights while contemplating my low points. We all make mistakes. I just want to be a good person, kind, giving, forgiving, helpful, supportive and all that stuff. That is what makes me feel good. I am also working on avoiding stressful situations. Just say ‘No’ and walk away to live a happier and longer life.
Charity When it comes to giving, some people will stop at nothing.
